Tactics For Sustained Weight Loss: Michael Greger, MD | Rich Roll Podcast

When it comes to maintaining your weight, though, research indicates that exercise is the single biggest factor in predicting who’s going to prevent the weight from creeping back on, says Hill. This happens because as you get older your basal metabolic rate, or the amount of calories your body needs, begins to decline and so does muscle mass. This means you. For example, a person who weighed 200 lbs. (91 kilograms), and then lost 20 lbs. (9.1 kg), would require about 300 to 400 fewer calories per day than a person who weighed 180 lbs. (82 kg) without. If you feel like you can’t lose weight no matter how hard you try, don’t be discouraged. It was actually easier for people to stay slim in the 1980s.

Weight loss to a healthy weight for a person’s height can promote health benefits. These include lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels, lower blood pressure, less stress on bones and joints, and less work for the heart. It is vital to maintain weight loss to obtain health benefits over a lifetime. Keeping extra weight off takes effort and commitment, just as losing weight does.

‘By including weight training into your routine alongside cardiovascular activities you can help to offset the rate of muscle mass loss.’ What you should do instead Include some weight training as well as cardio to help maintain weightloss ‘Weight training has been shown to increase the calories burnt after an initial exercise period,’ says Kay. Research shows that slow, steady weight loss is easier to maintain long-term because it’s better for developing healthy eating behaviors, and is. Focusing solely on calories can actually hinder weight loss. “You need protein to support muscle and metabolism, fat for the absorption of vitamins and carbs to sustain energy.” Per meal, aim for. It’s never too late to lose weight. It’s true that as you get older, maintaining a healthy weight can get trickier.

But it’s still a worthwhile goal at any age. Here’s our advice for how to lose weight for older adults: Move your body. Once you’re “over the hill,” you may have more aches and pains than.

A second article, “Why Maintaining Weight Can Be Trickier than Losing Weight” by Julia Malacoff, explained that although weight fluctuations are normal, keeping an eye on the scales is important (https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/why-maintaining-weight-can-be-trickier-tha ). Malacoff suggested having a mindset committed to healthy eating and living.

This reduces the amount of energy needed by the body (i.e., the amount that can be consumed without gaining weight) and is one reason people find it so difficult to maintain weight loss after dieting.

In addition, weight cycling due to repetitive attempts at sustained weight loss leads to losses of lean tissue (muscle and bone) and decreases in metabolic rate, thus worsening the energy balance equation in the end, and making dietary management more and more difficult.

  • Just yesterday I was checking out at a supermarket and the cashier asked what diet I was on. She went on to say she had lost 6 pounds on Keto in a month, she did not cheat, it did not work for her.The wight loss was not fast enough for her. Pointed her to you on YouTube, hope she followed up.

  • I have lost 15 lbs so farhalf of my 30 lbs to lose to my intended goal weight. I have done 2 challenges & now on an accountability program with Ree. Saving up for a custom program!

  • I know he’s already said Keto makes insulin resistance worse but it kinds of bugs me when people say Keto improves insulin resistance, I wish Dr Greger could talk about this

  • Although it’s probably true that calories eaten in the morning creates less fat than calories eaten in the evening according to studies, if I have to give up a meal or eat less during a time of day, dinner is the hardest meal to give up or eat less of. It’s easier to replace breakfast with a tea, coffee, or even a 200 calorie smoothie. I stopped eating breakfast two weeks ago and I’ve already lost 6 pounds. I grew up not eating breakfast and my weight stayed the same for years, but 12 years ago I started eating breakfast and my weight slowly climbed to an additional 25-30 pounds more. I finally decided to go back to no breakfast after noticing that coworkers who don’t eat breakfast tend to be slimmer.

  • This ideas awesome! One of the best ones I’ve heard from him! Great interview! Please….. Dr Gregor please do the MENTAL HEALTH book SOON!

  • Its a miracle that I am alive today. I encounter HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS (HSV1/2) for good four (4) years, six (6) months and twelve (12) day with my calculations, before I meet the great Dr. Abumere. I am Tina Richard from Fresno California, united state of America and I was affected with herpes virus.Herpes is a viral infection cause by the Herpes simplex virus, marked by painful, watery blister in the skin or mucous membrane or on the genitals. This was what I suffered for good four years. I have visited CVS Pharmacy in Fresno for treatment but no improvement. I meet Dr.Abumere online while I was searching for herpes cure I read a testimony about his work. I give a try that now becomes a testimony in my life. I contacted Dr.Abumere on Email: [email protected] or WhatsApp: +2349021975055

  • Yeah, I too am guilty of jumping through weight loss plan to others as well, I think that I must have tested every single weight-loss system that was available, however eventually not one of them helped me to lose and maintain the weight off. I ended up trying for the very last time using the Custokebon Secrets simply because my buddy who told me great things about it and so far to date I’ve successfully dropped 17 pounds within 4 weeks!

  • Hi, I am in keto around 7 weeks now, I am losing my weight very slowly, I have thyroid + I don’t do any exercise because of my back injury, but I am still happy because my health is much much better, special with the diabetes, start to be normal.

  • Idk why but he speaks like he’s only half sure about things. Like he just sorta glosses over things really quickly and then says “ahhh, but, ummm, you know, a lot of it we just don’t know, uhh”. I’ve never heard someone speak and sound like they are so unsure of everything they are saying haha.

  • Yeah, I too am guilty of jumping through weight loss plan to others as well, I think that I need to have tried every single fat reduction method that was available, however in the end not one of them made it easier for me to lose and maintain the weight off. I ended up trying for the very last time using the Custokebon Secrets mainly because my mate who told me awesome things about it and so far to date I have successfully lost 15 pounds within 3 weeks!

  • Just reached my goal weight on my birthday September 7th, best birthday present I have ever worked for! 110# down since August 2018 after reading the book and several challenges.

Thank you so much for the toolset Cristy! <3 Gratitude in my heart for you and your passion for providing the tools to take people's lives back! <3

So GLAD I did the work and now in maintenance, that I am continuing to do the work! <3 Love in my heart for ALL of it!! <3

  • Are you including veges as carbs in this? I’ve been doing this for about 3 weeks now. To be honest, I love it. Only had a little little pasta 2 days ago. If 8 start craving, I just eat more protein or a full plate of veges in soy sauce or cheese. It’s more than I need, but I would hate myself more if I had carbs.

    Is soy sauce bad?

  • Lot’s of good info here. However, one really needs to look at “androgen receptors” and the relationship between that and Test. There is a linear relationship between Test and muscle mass in which androgen receptors play a significate role. Meaning you can raise your Test, but with out adequate androgen receptor uptake you may not get the results you are looking for. Also free testosterone is the number you are looking for when evaluating Test in your system. Get a blood test. Then go from there. Perhaps a deep dive video into androgen receptors would be a good followup to this one. P.S. Not A Doctor, Not An Expert just a casual observer.

  • This video has great information, but I’m not sure about the best diet plan which i need to work with, only because I have never taken any. Anyone tried the Custokebon Secrets? I’ve heard many people talk about unbelivable things about Custokebon Secrets.

  • My understanding is that alcohol also has some effects on muscle retention? More than 3 drinks in a single night can lose you some muscle from the research I’ve read.

  • Why does this dude get so much trust from vegans or plant based whole foods religious people with samme agenda. Every one here supporting him, is here because of the pre religious believe, which Can comfort your belief with an doctor who shared the same religious belief in order to justify your beliefs. But the fact he states whole plant based diet is the optimal solution as he claims is flat out factual lie. But your religious fruit cakes is not interested in the truth But only what suits your tailored narrative. And it’s just intelletual lazyness, or a deficiant in understanding the reality. Any one with commen sense would seek the truth, not seek comfort in a lie The truth of the matter is a clean Well balanced diet without any supplements are WAY superior of any vegan diet, since No Extreme diet belief is the best, or the most healthy. He clams we are designet to eat plants? And you Think he is right? Well the science already proves since we Can trace modern man back to 250k years, and the most used food was meat in our diet. Our biochemestry, our biology Evolved us to consume meat in our diet. And the best proof of how superior our brain Evolved was when we mastered fire for cooking, the best way then do get the nutrients we neede, never fucking plant based foods

  • Bull shit if your over 50, the only way to raise testosterone you must do it medically. Your urologist can prescribe effective TRT. I am 60 I only pay $200 month and within 3 weeks my level went from 250 to 1100.
The only problem is that i think and want sex all the time.
Be sure you have a girlfriend lol

  • I am so sick of the scale. I just pull out old clothes that no longer fit and just try it on once a week. If it fit better I’m shrinking..lol

  • ….. I took a screen shot of this one to reference often…. I’ve lost 18 pounds… my current weight is right around 121… some naysayers tell me this isn’t good!.. but I’m eating cr… which means healthy…. this is a happy body…. I’m experimenting a bit with food but I know what feels good to take in and I’ve drawn a line in the sand…. I’m 58 years old and feel amazing!.. cristy and I may never meet face to face but I count her amongst the most important individuals in my life!

  • Im doing kickbox with calistatics (idk how u spell) for a year. My body changed but, i cant lose belly fat. Crunches etc dont work. I have toned legs, okay arms but belly wont go. Im a woman btw. What do u suggest?

  • Does Erectodom Secrets (google it) help me last longer in bed? I notice many people keep on talking about this popular erectile dysfunction treatment.

  • So, exercise increase T levels temporary? That’s bullshit! Testosterone is needed when doing heavy workouts to repair and to keep the form of the physic! And more you continue to do workouts, T levels start surging up.

  • If I’ve had too many carbs or salt I can usually tell by looking at myself in the mirror. The mirror never lies

Thanks for the video shapely one.
    Stay blessed

  • 21:35 Dr Greger mentions the deaths per year from heart disease. Here are the facts from the CDC… https://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/facts.htm#::text=Heart%20disease%20is%20the%20leading,1%20in%20every%204%20deaths.
The irony is how the MSM vilifies Americans for going against the tyrannical lockdowns over Covid-19 and never once mentions that almost 1700 Americans die every day from heart disease which, by the way, is not only treatable but reversible. I’m not in anyway saying the virus isn’t concerning but on the contrary I can’t seem to agree with the fact that their narrative is pushing the envelope to where you can make the case for all transmutable diseases require similar actions. I don’ see how that would be ‘living’. More like surviving or shall I say existing.

  • Look at me. I dont take anything. Nothing. Food and water. You guys out there think drugs and boosters will help? You are being manipulated. They play on your desires to become something you cant be by taking anything. Being someone comes from the heart. My suggestion? Change tactics. God gave me what I am…and I am nothing. A nobody. But guess what? I did it by myself without drugs and I am natural. It takes years to build a good physique. Drugs will be the death of you..if not now, they will negatively impact your life to such a large degree and you will never even see it coming. Ask Rich Piana. Ask Big Tex. Ask Nasser. Ask many others like Flex Wheeler and all 20 years olds who lost their hair and many their lives.

Hard work, faith in your self is all you need…dedication and consistency. I’m a 39 year old partially disable nothing. But Guess what? I am in the best shape of my life. People ask me regularly what gear I take….I tell them all the same thing, the truth.. I have God and Faith. God bless.

  • As specialist, I do believe Custokebon Secrets can be good way to lost tons of weight. Why don’t you give it a shot? perhaps it can work for you too.

  • Testosterone helps to develop muscles so the top of the chain men should look the fittest. Low-level men with low testosterone should not have many children?

  • you’ve people saying keto diet is the way to go, and you’ve got carnivore diet is the way to go, then theres this guy saying plant based is the way to go,they all profess to reverse diabetes, weight loss, autoimmune reversal. wtf, maybe just cut out high carbs and sugar and we’ll all be fine?

  • How not to dieSorry to tell you this but we’re all going to die no matter how healthy you are, the better question is how to live your life to the fullest without pain and suffering and live as long as possible. it Ain’t about eating a lot of these so-called fruits and vegetables that are supposedly so healthy many of them If we had a time machine and were to show to our caveman ancestors of more than 12,000 years ago modern fruits and vegetables they would have no idea what they even are! By selective breeding and gene splicing use of chemicals, we have learned how to grow candy.

  • Losing weight is easy in theory but hard to stick to in practice!
Anyways smash it guys, it’s so worth it. Wish all of you good look with it and a wonderful year 2020!

  • Another piece of advice that you might find useful is to lift weights in general. Your metabolism will increase significantly it will improve your ability to lose fat.

  • I admire Dr.Gregor so much, he is just so informative yet he is so kind, I bet this pandemic has kept him so much less busy with no traveling, he probably has been researching, and maybe writing another book, I do t think he can sit still

  • The evolution theory is just again a theory, this is so arrogant speaking like it’s fact. Nobody knows What really happened even 5000 years ago it’s all hearsay and based on a few historiens and some interpretations of text, it’s so bold to State What happened 500.000 years ago.

  • What about if you use testosterone pills for several long time does your body stops producing testosterone because you’re using supplements and then when you stop using supplements does your body go to shit does it does it not produce testosterone what’s the affects of that

  • I’m down 23 pounds and counting. Looking forward to being down 30 pounds by time I come to Boise for the
Code Red Live experience! Rebel for Life!

  • Can you make a video about the benefits of using salt before working out? Also the difference between himalayan salt and regular salt?

  • I’m glad I watched this until the end. I just realized a few years ago that I’m not the only one who has those glitches, as he called it. I jumped in all the way but I do a vegan brownie in a cup every evening. I still noticed the sweetness of that roasted (plain) zucchini this evening. I was flabergasted. I was so happy also when I went into my garden and picked a sugar snap peas and ate it. WOW! I’m so happy now and it’s only been a couple of weeks. I feel so good now. It’s a little hard when I have to go out to eat with my 89 year old mother (cracker barrel, Bob Evans, etc.) It’s sad how those places have nothing but a salad. I’m trying to let them know we need more choices.
I’m glad I don’t go to the Dr at my age. I’m 56 and have nothing wrong with me. Yay!
The reason I started eating this way was because my mother takes 10 pills just in the morning because of all her Heath problems. Thanks guys for making this video! So much information.

  • I lost 101 overall!! Am still figuring out maintenance and have been up a few pounds over my line in the sand. Having a Code Red Coach and Accountability has been key for me in this learning process and in keeping myself in check. I look forward to a lifetime of living the Code Red Lifestyle! SO happy to have found you!

  • As one who has lost over 100 lbs twice in my life I can honestly say that when I was over weight I was not conscious of what I was putting in my mouth. People just let their subconscious habits run their lives. 1st step To get ride of those nasty LBS you have to be aware of your own behavior. I don’t know anyone that would consciously want to become Obese.

  • Help! Going into 2nd month. No benefits. Still 30lbs to go. Not 1 lb! Nothing. Thyroid, Lyme arthritis, joint swelling and crushing fatigue etc. Have read How not to die.

  • picfit discord channel has a lot of dope people who helps a lot the problem is that he also has a moderator who thinks hes always right and curses other peoples idea:/

  • Weight loss is simple. Ive been eating absolutely anything I want, and exercising every single day for the past roughly 150 days and I’ve lost about 35lbs so far. I do supplement protein as well but aside from that I ignore my macros for the most part. If it’s food that I love then I will eat it, I just make sure to track my calories and my protein intake and ensure I workout every day and boom. Weight loss. The biggest change for me personally was just getting rid of the idea of losing weight “fast” like I have in the past. I’ve done Keto and other diets like more strict version of Calories In/ Calories out that give faster results in much less time BUT I could never sustain it… so as soon as I fell I would gain it all back and hate myself. And THATS the biggest issue with just about every diet. We are all so focused on results that we forget to ENJOY the journey of losing weight. Diets don’t have to make you miserable and exercise is actually a ton of fun if you stick it out for long enough. This weight loss journey of mine has been amazing and I can guarantee I’ll never stop because in reality, not much has changed in terms of diet other than moderation and exercise. I wish the best of luck to all of my fellow human beings who wanna partake in weight loss. It’s the greatest feeling in the world, and it’s a lot of fun if you build the diet around YOU and not someone’s “get skinny fast” plan.

  • Love the flex shot , this video was so helpful, my scale has been like a ball and chain around my ankle and it disappoints me all the time. So time to put it away, maybe………..I hope I can, I’ll try, lol.

  • Its so easy for guys to lose weight and gain muscle. But for women belly fat wont go even if everything else is thin and muscled. Im gettin crazy.

  • I lost 11.6 pounds in two and a half weeks now and I use to be 215 now I’m 203.4 and half of that weight is water cuz I be drinking 10 cups of water a day

  • Bottom line is if ya really need it,like really that low,ya need trt. If diet, certain exercises could really fix it.no1 would use testosterone.

  • I like how this started off with the lightest mans voice talking about yogurt in a commercial, im already so pissed off im commenting this shit n leaving fuck this

  • Glad I found your channel.I started Keto diet 3 weeks ago and I was very excited and positive about my new life style.I followed the rules and I wasn’t mind giving up carbs and sugar. After 20 days my scale is stuck.Zero progress. So frustrating…Any advice?Thank you!!

  • What is the best way to lost tons of weight? I read a lot of great reviews on the internet about how exactly Custokebon Secrets will help you lost a ton of fat. Has any one tried this popular lose weight method?

  • 19 lbs loss. At goal weight. Loving it! Working for me. On maintenance page with Heather. This works for me. Code Red for Life. My body loves this! Love being in a smaller size and feeling great.

  • The How Not To Diet book is incomplete it focuses on food and not on psychology. The most successful researched fat loss regime BY FAR is the Bright Lines programme developed by a psychologist. The keys are 1) avoiding trigger foods and 2) Most importantly, a highly structured approach to eating that reduces the need for choice and willpower. Combining Greger’s ideas with the Bright Lines ideas would be a truly powerful approach to weight loss.

  • I stopped eating any soft of sugary foods and started doing resistance training and cardio. Is it okay to stop eating dinner to create a bigger calorie deficit?

  • Does this advice apply to women and men? I see women trying avoid protein and to drop as much BF as possible but I heard that low BF for women is much more dangerous than for men.

  • Got my T-shirt from the shop, but Since I need to pay more for import tax, and handeling than for the shirt and, and transport to denmark. Then I might buy a new T-shirts, since no matter the mount, it is the same extra costs for me.

  • Cheaper alternative to his test booster sup: Ageless Test $32 dollars

I did some research for some booster supplements (that don’t break bank). The only supplement I found (on Amazon) that had nearly all of the compounds mentioned in the vid was Ageless Testosterone for $32.

It contains ashwagandha, Tribulus, fenugreek, and Tongkat Ali/long Jack. It also has vita D and zinc. I have not looked into the doses.

I will give it a shot and report back.

  • I am doing intermittent fasting since February 2020 and I have lost 28 pounds! I am very happy with it. Now I am doing 23/1 fasting but I am stuck in 149 pounds and I do not know what else to do. I am 5.4 feet tall and I am 57 years old. I would like to get some advice of what to do next. I must be making some mistakes not to be able to loss more weight
I am drinking a lot of water and I am taking super greens supplement and b12 and anti-stress magnesium, I quit all the regular medicine that the doctor had prescribed like levotiroxine, hormone replacement, bupropion, fluoxetine etc. I feel much better though a little sleepy during the day, at night I sleep like a log during 9 hours or 10. I eat almost the same every day because my stomach has shrinked a lot, I am having 2 eggs cooked in 1 spoon coconut oil as scrambled eggs, 100 gr of salmon, raw spinach, 5 nuts, half avocado, half tomato. And the vitamins thank you so much! ♥️ I need to get to 130 pounds to feel light!
I used to be 100 pounds all my life

  • The best video I’ve ever seen on the internet my whole life because this answers alot of questions that i have been thinking about for a long time. Even though i tried doing alot of research about hormones specially test, I’ve never found anything explains hormones the way this video does. Really amazing work thanks and keep the amazing work.✅

  • Hi Aaron, I am breastfeeding and I’ve heard that it can be hard to lose weight while breastfeeding. I’m on my 3rd week and I’ve barely lost any weight on the scale. Need some weight loss. Please advise

  • Following low carb diet for quite a while now and i have to admit that im terrified to look at the scale after a high carb cheat day! the weight fluctuation can be up to 2kg! After i get back on diet, weight declines back to normal in like 2 days.

  • I’ve used various low carb diets so many times over the years that I’m pretty sure my body is resistant to them at this point. I’ve had success with keto before, I know what I’m supposed to eat, I’m eating all of it and I haven’t lost an ounce in over a week.

  • Best interview ever, love it! No matter how many of Dr. Greger’s videos I watch, I always learn something newl Nice to meet Rich Roll who does an excellent job of keeping it moving.

  • Keto has supressed my appetite to the point that I eat one meal every other day. Some days I just drink water, herbal teas. No Sugar! Eating food makes me nauseous now . I have insulin resistance and even though I’ve been exercising for three months I haven’t lost any fat,

  • Back in 2018, I devoured How Not to Die at the start of the year in a couple of days and began implementing the ideas straight away. I dropped 20lb pretty fast and by March it was time for my full health checkup. My GP took my blood at the session and lectured me on how I needed to lose weight. I explained what I’d been doing and how I’d lost some already but he was unconvinced. He seemed uncertain and asked if I struggled to come back and he’d give me drugs to help me lose weight.
Two days later, he got my blood test results back and he called me up and apologised. Because my bloods looked so good one of the lowest cholesterol markers he’d ever seen in a patient. My underactive thyroid had made huge improvements and meant I could come off the medication. He was astounded because he’d not seen any patient be able to stop taking levothyroxine after dietary change before.
Now, I still have loads of weight to lose, don’t get me wrong. I’m looking forward to that point for many reasons, and I hope that it will encourage my doctor to look further into this way of eating and hopefully that can have a positive impact on other patients that he sees.
I’m truly so grateful to Dr Greger’s work. The work of Dr Doug Lisle has really helped me too!

  • I’d say there’s only one thing you should know. If you need to lose weight (so like 60-70% of the population) don’t approach it like a chore. As in once you lose your desired weight…. you’re done, and can go back to your regular shit habits. Approach it as a major lifestyle change…. LIFEstyle… as in for life… and go about it slowly and you will be incredibly successful. Every fool out there knows exactly how to lose weight. If you don’t there’s this little thing called the internet. Learn. IMO, get your eating right first and foremost. Don’t even think about going to the fun until you get your calorie intake and macro split right and you are staying consistent with your new, proper eating habits. Focus on proper eating for 3-4 months. THEN… go to the gym. Again this is a LIFEstyle change. No need to rush into it and drastically change your eating habits instantly on top of going to the gym for an hour most days. You’ll burn yourself out before you even get going, and it’s why most people fail. I highly recommend getting your eating down pat first because once you get the calories and macros right and stick to that nutrition plan for only a couple of weeks you’ll already start feeling better. After a few months you’ll be feeling A LOT better and have more energy… making you ready to hit the gym. Then once you get past the first 2-3 weeks if the DOMs phase you’ll likely start seeing noticeable gains within that first month…. and then going to the gym just becomes a fun addiction. It. Is. wonderful. I kick myself for falling out of shape after I blew out my knee in 2009 and made excuses until 2018 as to why I couldn’t/ didn’t want to workout…. or eat right. I’ve never felt better than I have these last 2 years….. why the fuck didn’t I get my shit together sooner. The feeling you’ll get makes it all more than worth the effort. Looking good and adding muscle is just a happy side effect IMO. If I had to choose to either be my current 205 lbs and “jacked” but feel like shit, or feel like I do but be normal looking at, say 170 lbs, I’d take looking normal at 170 lbs all day. But being 200-205 lbs with about 14% BF….. it’s the best of both worlds. Adding strength is more fun to me than gaining size…. the gaining size has just been, again, a happy side effect of my powerlifting. Granted I have lifting experience prior to said knee injury from a decade+ ago, but going from 155 bench, 225 squat, and 255 deadlift to 275 bench, 375 squat, and 425 deadlift in just about one year of lifting and shocking my muscles back into their former shape has been a blast. Noob(ish) gains are real. 2020 goal is to hit 315 on bench, 405 on squat, and least 495 on deadlift…. 500+ would be great too…. 495 just means 5 plates each side. Adding 45 lb plates to your lifts is so damn rewarding.

Bottom line…. get your eating right first and foremost. Any schmuck can go, and make a habit if going, to the gym to pick up heavy things and put them down. Eating right is crucial though. You’ll feel like a million bucks if you do though. Is it hard? I guess. It’s no harder than any other lifestyle change though IMO. If you’ve quit drinking or quit smoking you can change your eating habits. ESPECIALLY if you quit smoking already. I quit smoking 5 years ago and I’d say that was way more difficult than changing my eating habits. Not even close. If you haven’t done either of those…. or don’t need too…. I’d say it is no more difficult of a lifestyle change than the change was when you had your first kid. If you don’t smoke, drink, or have kids…… congrats…. this might be the biggest and hardest lifestyle change you’ve ever undergone then, Haha. It’s not that bad. Have willpower and determination. Remember, only person you’re letting down when you have cheat meals is yourself. You’ll feel like shit too afterwards and feel like you gained 5 lbs right then and there. You didn’t, but limit if not outright avoid cheat meals/days. You’re just going to feel guilty as fuck afterwards and be down on yoursel. Don’t be. Shit happens. Avoid situations that lead to cheat meals next time. Don’t beat yourself up if you fuck up your meals once in a while…. just try and make that a great while.

  • what emotions cause an increase of testosterone? e.g. Could the emotional state of victory from watching a movie cause a spike in testosterone?

  • I am 60+ and there is a guy trying to get older people to buy his book and products. Is it true that keto doesn’t work for older people unless you do some magic thing that this guy is promoting (Get Lean After 40) When I started keto about a week ago, I was dropping pounds like crazy. Now, not so much. Is it true that keto doesn’t work for you if you’re older?

  • For those needing motivation, I started out at 122kg and decided to switch my life up on 3 December 2019… I quit sugar and foods above 50g of carbs and a month and a half later I’m weighing 110kgs. Using Keto and Intermittent Fasting is the best way to lose weight sustainably… I don’t exercise that much because the diet is most important part. Trust me, quit refined sugars and high carb foods, eat only when hungry using IF and you will get results in a month maximum.

  • 45:30 I’m highly sceptical about the carnivore diet and think it sounds dangerous. But I also thought the same about intermittent fasting and low carb diets at one time, both of which have improved my health, body and mind significantly and have gained vast amounts of research promoting their benefits.

  • Ok, this is probably gonna sound dumb, but how do you do a double sided picture to see how well you’ve done? I have absolutely no idea
Love watching your videos. I started on my keto journey this past Monday. Granite I haven’t noticed any big changes which I know is normal, but not giving up!! Went to the grocery store with my shopping list (And shopping isn’t something I enjoy doing at all), looked for the keto foods that I am allowed to eat, came home and OMGIOSH I am enjoying the different recipes. Love my bulletproof coffee in the morning drink fresh cut lemons in my water with a tiny bit of stevia for some sweetness. I have had to cut out all carbs, salt, sugars mainly because of how it makes me feel inside. I love breads, pastries, goodies but they don’t like me. Wrecks havic to my stomach and I pay for it dearly!
Keep up with the videos for like I said, love to watch.:)

  • Don’t get more protein. Get enough protein, 1g per lb or 2g per kg is more than ENOUGH (if you lift, 50% less if you don’t). Keep the rest of the calories for carbs so you training does not suffer (or fats, if you like em more).

  • Lost 7kgs in a month, from 75kg to 68kg. My waisteline drop from 35″ to 32″. I started exercising last week 6x a week base on a home workout app. I can see a bit of progress to my body. I don’t own a scale, but i measure my weight in a clinic before I started keto and just last week. Will definitely measure up my body size starting next week monday. Thanks for the tips.

  • Going to gym for 40-50 minutes I’d burn max, 600 cals, the whole burn more than you eat is a lot harder than you think. Eating a low 2,000 cal per day and saying you gotta burn more than 2,000 is not achievable

  • I keep trying to tell fellow intermittent fasters that skipping breakfast is bad!! Most of the fasters I know skip breakfast and not dinner. I’m going to share the hell out of this video.

  • I remember 2 years ago when I watch your other losing weight video. I got Inspire and I lost about 70 pound, However I got to skinny……. good news after 2 years I know not too skinny anymore.

  • I have had plateaus in weight loss on keto myself. But one day I read a story on dietdoctor.com where a guy in his middle years wondered why his weight hadn’t shifted on keto, but he went down two pant sizes in the meantime. He explained that your body composition is what’s changing, less fat more muscle. Not only is your food getting denser, so are you. Ha. So yeah, the scale is a horrible liar.

  • Excellent info here! Surprised you didn’t go into fasting and the HGH boost (in release frequency) from the pituitary gland as soon as 16 hours into a fast. I would assume it’s more than just HGH that gets a boost from that gland during more aggressive fasting attempts. The body naturally attempts to protect itself from degeneration when food supply is nonexistent so this makes me think more about the hormonal effects of aggressive fasting beyond just the HGH benefits I already knew about:)

    Good stuff!

  • What about if you use testosterone pills for several long time does your body stops producing testosterone because you’re using supplements and then when you stop using supplements does your body go to shit does it does it not produce testosterone what’s the affects of that

  • The proof is in the pudding, uh excuse me, the celery. If people have the heart to try to eat a plant based diet and see for themselves how their A1C, cholesterol, etc. goes down and how good they feel, then they should be convinced that eating this way works. Back in 2016 I “experimented” on myself and in one month’s time when I went back to the doctor she saw that my A1C came way down. She said, “Oh, I see the medicine I prescribed is working.” That’s when I told her I didn’t take it. I showed her a log of what I had been eating. She was shocked. Every time I went to her after that she was excited at my changes and she continued to tell her other patients about it. She was of the opinion, at one time, that ‘once a diabetic, always a diabetic’ and so were some of her patients.

  • This was one of the most interesting, well explained, and useful videos I have seen on Youtube (and I watch a grip load of Youtube videos). I have subscribed to your channel, and I look forward to learning more. Thank you!

  • Im so confused. I was told about the 16/8 diet and i couldnt sustain it then i went to low carb and i always felt like crap and put on weight. One diet saying the pyramid is upsidedown omg its all confusing. Ive never been successful.

  • While most of the information was beneficial i think talking about the long term effects of testo boosters and testo shots would be very important. As being placed on these as typically you will be on them for life because your body reduces production naturally. I’d hate to see a 20 some male absolutely destroy their natural processes in the long term to gain short term benefits.

  • Focus on building skills then you will pay the bills and then get the girls.
Otherwise if you focus on girls first they will drain your life force and steal your soul.

  • I am a night shift worker who has a desk job. Now with the pandemic going on, I don’t even lift weights anymore. I may walk but not consistently and I did go vegan to help with my diabetes, cholesterol, and fatty liver. My blood pressure was high in the beginning but I got off that medication. My blood sugar and triglycerides are hard to control. I do eat junk food. Now I want to improve my diet some more but what holds me back is making good food takes time. If the book has a grocery list with bulk meals I can make, then I am sold on it.

  • What is your opinion on bulking. Dirty bulking, clean bulking.

I have been “skinny” for a while now. So I have been bulking and gaining more fat and muscle at the same time. Is that detrimental to test levels short or long term? I will follow bulk with a cut phase. So maybe T level will only rise after cut?

  • Started in June 2019 at 241 pounds and sick and tired of being sick and tired. Down 74 pounds at 166 now. My goal is 140. I am about to turn 40 and feel 25 again. Thank you Cristy. One question, do I still only eat two meals a day in maintenance? Thank you for Code Red Lifestyle!

  • So this video covered a bunch of benefits of raised testosterone levels. What are the downsides? I’m not aware of any chemical that’s all benefits with no catch. Also, what are the effects if testosterone levels exceed the natural range?

  • I don’t know that much about Dr. Greger so if he donates ALL the money he makes on his books to charity, how does the man make his living??? And if he’s always working, researching, writing, and traveling, and never home, how does he manage to stay married??? Yeah those two questions baffle me. Because a normal person would be A.)poor and penniless, and B.)divorced.

  • Taxpayers don’t fund anything on federal level. I know that is not conventional wisdom. See Stephanie Kelton’s recent “Deficit Myth”. It is never a question of affordability at federal level, fed gov creates money, it is a question of availability of resources and political will.

  • I just found out your channel, and after watching 2 min of water fast video, I quickly subscribed. Will you please make a video on L-carnitine and its effect on fat loss? Please it will be a great help. Thanks.

  • I stick to a caloric maintenance, make sure I eat 1g protein per lb of body weight and if I got 400 calories leftover I’m getting myself some junk food.

  • Hi Rich, fantastic video, as always with my personal hero, Dr. Greger!!! Next chance you get, could you ask him to comment on fatty liver disease?

  • I understand how the cavemen got vitamin d, but what about zinc and magnesium? We were built to not have to take supplements, right?

  • Everyone needs to put the scale away and trust the process. The scale doesn’t tell you what is going on inside of your body! This is a lifestyle and not a diet!

  • i’m here because i gained 3 lbs since my last weigh in three days ago. i figured out it was physically impossible that i gained that in fat and i kind of laughed at myself. i haven’t even eaten enough calories to gain one lol. i’m beginning to measure myself TODAY.

  • One thing you should focus more on is the concepts of activity and satiety. Satiety is achieved via eating lots of fibre and protein. More importantly, these need to be low calorie dense foods.
Activity like doing chores, taking the stairs etc help to burn more calories without taking a huge toll on your body.

  • I’m a 61 yr old on TRT.
I can attest to the quality of life having the T levels of a 25 yr old at 61.
I go to the gym 4 to 5 times wkly, minimal body fat, mental clarity, and a all round feeling good.
I see the huge difference in my friends who are sedentary, unmotivated, slumping shoulders, depression etc.
TRT definitely works wonders for low T levels men.
P.S. woman suffer from low T also

  • I have lost 19lbs in 4 in a half months since starting Keto. It has been a very slow but consistent process. You have to make the decision in your mind first that you are going to change your diet and lifestyle and then make the sacrifices that are required. Carbohydrates and sugar = fat. It is that simple and that complex. We live in a world that is loaded with carbohydrates, breads, pastas, rice-wheat etc.. and many of us have been eating this way for years. It has to be a conscious decision in your mind first before you see the results in your body. I have tried many diets before and have given up if I didn’t see the results within a couple of weeks to a month. I am over 40 years and my metabolism has slowed down. You have to be patient with yourself. Your body is adapting to a new way of eating from the way you have been eating for years. its a whole different way of looking at food and being conscious of what you put in your body. Its taken me years to get here and I am finally here. We have been brainwashed to think salt and fat are bad ( fried over-processed foods are still unhealthy) when it’s really the carbs and sugars that are the culprit. We have to change our mindset’s if we are going to make progress.

  • This is awesome! and I’m also so grateful I found http://tiny.cc/p813iz, it helped me not only lose weight but keep it off, hope it helps some others!

  • Supplementing testosterone is the wrong thing to do, because you will stop naturally producing it, right? So only methods to encourage natural production are beneficial.

  • It’s also sometimes very personal. For instance, I was told that I had a hormone balance that made my weight stick, and needed to work on hormones, especially reducing stress hormones to lose weight. Just taking walks every day can get you far, as well as making sure you have quality sleep.

  • I hate that mainstream youtubers don’t put in research efforts like this to make us better. I can sense the amount of passion and work put into this video

  • When I started my weight loss journey ( and I succeeded) I fell in love with protein and now I’m addicted to chicken. I can now eat 1 whole roasted chicken in a seating. Feeling full with more protein doesn’t work on me anymore XD

  • Great vid but kind of concerning that those surviving covid-19 have higher levels of t-cells and those with low had lower chance of surviving.

  • How I know I have high testosterone without test kit? I get crazy erection every goddamn morning and I’m horney all the time lol. I lift weight and have healthy diet though.

  • I’ve been doing keto for over 2 months now but only lost 4.5kg so far.
As for weighing myself. I only do it every 2 weeks.
What could I be doing wrong?

  • Great video.

Missed out a few important points such the function of DHT (tribulus increases DHT more-so than it does Testosterone hence the libido), as well as how other hormones may influence T levels. I also wouldn’t recommend Ashwaghanda because it affects the 5-HT1A serotonin receptors and can lead to blunting of emotions (anhedonia) as well as low libido.

  • Tried keto for a month and a half almost. I did see results but I basically hated my life. So I transitioned into low carb yesterday and I feel better already.

  • Bowl of sugar for breakfast, a carcinogen sandwich washed down with a can of sugar for lunch, a plate of fat for dinner, and a night time snack of sugar before bed. But it’s healthy because it’s fortified.

  • Through this diet, several of my fellow workers burn beyond 13 pounds! Many individuals told me to look at it too. As soon as I really started pursuing it the fat simply lessened 15 lbs. Google can help you to research it. Program’s name is below.
    Bella Kaγozko
    good luck

  • At 59:00, Dr. G mentions Sorghum. I made some last week. It’s as tasty as any other whole grain. I’ll keep it as one of the variety of grains in my diet.

  • Such an amazing informational video. Thank you very much. I like how you keep referencing to studies and the diagrams plus animation are just phenomenal!

  • Yeah, I too am guilty of jumping through weight loss plan to others as well, I do believe that I must have tested every single fat reduction program that was available, but eventually not one of them made it easier for me to shed and maintain the weight off. I ended up trying for the very last time using the Custokebon Secrets mainly because my work buddy who told me incredible things about it and so far to date I’ve effectively dropped 19 pounds within 4 weeks!

  • How do you feel about the vegan bodybuilding movement?
There are a bunch of documentaries coming out saying how meat is actually really bad for you and that its destroying the planet.
Would love to see a video about this

  • I have lost 30 lbs but have 10-20 lbs to go. Right now it seems I am just maintaining so need to switch up how I am eating to loose the last amount.

  • 3 years ago i was overweight 99kg after 1 year i lost 33kg but after 2 year i gained 20 kg because i ended up eating so much… and now im planing to lose again and try to maintain my weight

  • I guess I am not normal, but I have had low T for decades, below 300, been on TRT for a year keeping it in the 900-1200 range for total and top of the range for free, but ive felt no different, I can’t say my lifting has improved, mood, sleep, energy, nothings changed despite my blood work being spot on whenever I check it. I guess for as its still in the normal range expect normal things. Maybe steroid high levels would make a noticeable difference?

  • I had to quit keto and go back to low carb…I went from 12.9 bodyfat…to 15.3…lost 2lbs of muscle and gained 2lbs of fat according to INBODY test….needless to say I was very disappointed. I guess my body did not like that high fat content. I dont know if keto is good for someone who is already at a low bodyfat? I did it to see if I could get to the 10% marker. Im at 50 to 100 carb count now and I hope I can gain my muscle back…I have to say I regret I tried it…however I can see it working for some people.

  • Bought the book and started in May of 2018. First challenge June 2018 and then bought my CP. There is no going back! In June of 2019 I hit my goal and the total loss was 125#. I have been learning the maintenance lifestyle. Since June I have added a “bumper” of 3# and I have not gone above my goal weight. I have added back exercise and once in awhile I add a different food and WOW does my body let me know when it is something my body does not want. I love this lifestyle and I am NEVER going around that mountain again!!!
