Body dysmorphic disorder is less about appearance than anxiety about it.

Some people who have lost weight have trouble embracing their new, slimmer shapes. They may still perceive themselves as very heavy, even when the reflection in the mirror reveals a much smaller person. This phenomenon is sometimes called “phantom fat” or “phantom fat syndrome.”. • Smh ‍♀️ I cant believe he actually has to make a video about this because some immature reddit user got triggered ‍♀️‍♀️

  • Beautiful doctor
I am going to Start My University in Medical curse in 2021so
I hope that i would be a good doctor that people love and makes people healthy, love from iran

  • I was chubby since like 3 yrs old. But after a decade of being chubby, these last three months I’ve lost 6kgs and I am skinny now. But before I gained 9kgs in quarantine. I lost less than I gained but I am more skinnier now than before. The other 3kgs was because I became taller.

  • Wonderful expose. So, because of the incorrect/self serving interpretations and decisions to withhold certain data, exactly how many premature deaths (murders??) are The Harvard and other similar ‘experts’ responsible for? In some areas this would retrospectively be considered criminal activity.

  • I don’t think these people understand what fatphobia means……… I can’t believe what these people are saying. This made me angry

  • You’re so brave. Thank you for sharing. I hope you’re feeling a lot better now. You’re amazing, and we’re all really grateful for all you do.

  • I have watched the Etiology series at least 4 times and I am watching No. 6-6 again. My Dr is extremely happy with me because I have lost so much weight (I was morbidlly obese 39.5 BMI) and my sugars are absolutely normal. I told him that I have been watching what I ate. And I have. In accordance with what I learned from the Etiology seires…And now I am still overweight, but I am steadily losing weight and feeling better and I am looking forward to reaching a BMI in the low 20’s…..about 175 lbs for me…

    Thank you Dr. Fung.

  • If we stop comparing our bodies to a scale and quit putting numbers on nutrition of what your body needs how much it needs when it needs it how much it needs being intuned with you yourself not somebody else because that can end up fucking up your alignment with your health

  • I’m 5’7 I’ve lost 50 pounds.. yes I started at 252 now 201 and I am still obese but at this point i dont ever think I will be “good enough” for my own standards

  • I know I’m like an year late lol but right now my body dysmorphia is at its worst.. and its triggering my anorexia so i really needed a video to help me because i don’t want to fall back into that dark part of my life…so this is helpful, but i think you’re really beautiful (:

  • Just wanted to let you know I don’t think you’re being fat phobic. You’re a doctor not just a random youtuber. It’s a fact that obesity can negatively impact your life. I doubt if you brought up weight loss to a patient who was overweight or obese you would probably drop the subject if they refuse to talk about it bc you are a doctor who respects and understands the boundaries and rights of a doctor and of a patient. Being told by a medical profession that you are overweight and it can negatively impact your health is not an attack, it is a fact. However, if someone is making judgements about you because of your weight, that’s fat phobic and that simply is not what Dr. Mike is doing.

  • I’m glad I found your channel. Appreciate your being so real and informative. Body dysmorphia is debilitating and I relate to your experience because I felt most insecure when I was at my thinnest after a weight loss. I’m happy for you that you checked in with yourself and realized you still look fantastic regardless of what the scale says.

  • i lost twenty five fucking pounds. i lost a little over 10 inches on my waist, and i swear i look the same way i looked when i started and it depresses the shit out of me. but im gonna get my shit together.:)

  • Been following your channel for 10 months. I’m 59, weighed 220 for the last 30 years, started eating once a day and watching my carbs and sugars, and am now 173 HAPPY pounds. Thank you for the education, and my new lifestyle.

  • Dr Fung is decades ahead of today’s Medicine where telling the truth gets you shunned. It is the Semmelweiss effect over and over again. Tell all your friends and family, Insulin and Sugar are hazardous to your health. Fasting is required to reset your metabolism and lose weight via your body’s natural processes. Live life to your fullest by following Dr. Fung’s truth and NEVER trust any western doctor who does not know these basic truths. Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic disease should be 90+% reduced via these methods, unfortunately, medicine takes a generation to change as today’s doctors will never admit that they are killing their patients because of their ignorance.

Dr. Fung deserves the Nobel Prize for Medicine…Someone needs to

  • Okay but we also have to remember that fat people CAN be healthy. Not ALL fat people are health and not ALL skinny people are healthy either. Fat please can workout and eat well and do all the things to be healthy and STILL be fat. Genetics plays a huge role in likelihood to be fat.

  • Girl you are amazing! We can be our own worst enemy sometimes. But we love you and look forward to hearing about your journey. And sometimes that includes the struggle! Don’t be hard on yourself I just love how open and honest you are. It’s incredibly refreshing in this fake social media world that’s out there

  • I found this video because I was googling body dysmorphia. I have it as well. I lost 95 pounds and my self esteem has tanked. Some days are better than others. But when I look in the mirror, all I see is my sagging face and stomach. I have a great support system, but I also can’t shut off the negativity in my head. Thank you for sharing your feelings and being so vulnerable. It helps me remember I’m not alone. And for the record, although you probably won’t believe me because we BDD people are like that, I think you’re beautiful inside and out.

  • Crisco was developed by the Germans as a “smokeless oil” for use in lubricating shafts/bearings, etc. in submarines!!! After the war, some real assholes in the food industry put it out as a cooking oil. How incredibly, diabolically stupid can you get.? Damn!!!!!!!

  • I just read the reddit and I’m at la loss.
I myself am very overweight and try to lose weight. But it’s hard.
It’s hard to not just stuff myself up with anything anytime.
    Its hard to exercise.
    But:
    My my body is damaged.
My skin is horrible, my period isn’t on time, my bones suffer, my back hurts.
I am not healthy anymore and have to do something.
He ist not fatphobic. But these people can’t accept that they are slowly killing themselves. They just don’t want to own up to their mistakes.

  • I adjusted my diet in accordance with these lecture series and within just a few days, about a week, I am seeing significant improvements in my circulation, Definite and massive improvement in my energy levels and feeling of well being as well as improved eyesight. The combination of cutting out the refined carbohydrates, increasing fibre, fats and vinegar and intermittent fasting (about 2 to 3 times a week) is definitely a very positive and fast acting solution. I have hope to having a renewed life with a much better life expectancy thanks to these lecturers

  • I came here for getting educated about food but stayed for brief moments of seeing you on the screen. Such a beauty you are, I am fascinated.

  • I am blown away by all the oil and fat info its so different to everything you heard from everyone since ever… why the hell is this not common knowledge

  • hey hannah. same boat as you. lost 70 lbs in a year, have the same feelings you do. i just want to point something out about what you said about this being a 1st world problem: i grew up in a 3rd world country, and despite the food insecurity and poverty, my weight was still my #1 concern. ive since moved and my material situation has improved, but mental health doesn’t care. it just doesn’t give a shit. you aren’t being petty or privileged, and bdd is not a “first world problem”. im sorry you’re having to go through this too. i hope one day we both get better.

  • Our food is making us unhealthy and making us die earlier than we should. This needs to be regulated. The grip of the industrial food producers and the pharmaceutical companies that benefit from the status quo need to be broken, so we, as human beings, can get healthy.

  • Being obese isn’t something you should be proud of. It’s unhealthy! Doctors aren’t saying you’re morbidly obese because they think you’re useless, they’re telling you that because it can cause serious health problems that can be prevented by staying in shape.

  • This actually makes me mad. I mean, if I’m being honest here, I’m definitely not at my optimal weight. Not obese, but could definitely lose a good fifty lbs. I’m trying to be healthier and start going to the gym. And I watch these videos to BE healthier. I watch them for encouragement. Now if Dr. Mike’s “fatphobic” or whatever, then what kinda doctor are people looking for? Ones that overlook an obviously unhealthy lifestyle? Cuz that’s not the type of doctor I would want.

  • 12:12 yeah this is me! It frustrates me when my mom ( i love her) offers me junk knowing im trying to loose weight, and she says it’s just a bite. But i’ve told her so many times that once i have a taste, i can’t stop! (Like thats the bloody reason im fat!) but she doesn’t get it and still keeps offering me and the temptation is so hard

  • You are beautiful and look awesome. I really have been motivated by the work you do and it’s helped me lose about 50 lbs. I have about 20 to go now and it’s very hard for me to wrap my head around it. Like “I can’t fit that, I’m too big.” “This won’t be flattering.” Then half the time the item is too large. It’s the strangest thing because everyone tells me I am thinner but I don’t see it. Even being a nurse I was a bit shocked when my husband said he thinks I am dealing with body dysmorphia. You are not a failure. Even if you had 20 extra pounds that weren’t muscle you still helped many people and you did better for yourself. Thank you for helping people like me and being open enough to share this.

  • I enjoy your videos so much.. they help me a lot to live a healthy lifestyle.
Live a healthy lifestyle affects not only the body but also the mind.
When the focus is primarily on the worldly, then God rectifies us by putting our focus on the spirit. If we recognize who we are, accepted and loved infinitely, holy and roghteousness as we are, then we can meet all others with this love.
We need to get free from religious boundaries.
We are all one in Christ!
    No religion / no church.

  • I know I’m writing this comment years after this video was posted, but Hannah-you have truly been an inspiration and HUGE help to me on my WFPBV lifestyle-I’ve never followed you because I needed or wanted to lose weight or because that’s what you post alot about…I follow you because I love your personality and your style of cooking and living. You’re awesome!

  • In the day and age where you keep hearing “Fat is beautiful” it’s critical to show just how important it is to have a healthy diet. Plus our brains are not prepared for the huge variety of caloric-dense foods available nowadays.

  • He can’t be fathphobic for a really good and obvious reason. He doesn’t say someone’s fat, he says the actual words to make sure it stays professional. He’s political correct and he does it on purpose to maybe sure people don’t think that out of him…. Overweight and obesity, those are the right words. When he talks about patients being obese he says obese and not fat.

  • I’m surprised that rather than saying “being overweight is bad for you, like, literally. It’s a direct correlation” people are saying that you should be body positive, and they’re hiring “Plus sized models”. If modeling companies hired heavy smokers and told people who didn’t like it were “smoker-phobic”, people wouldn’t deal with it, when both smoking and eating disorders are problematic. Even if the cause for being overweight isn’t your diet, you can still exercise, and in essence, unless you’re overweight for something you can’t control, you should be actively trying to change it, not embrace it, same for anyone who smokes or do any kind of bad drugs. Yes, it’s hard, but it’s still the right thing to do, rather than just staying unhealthy and calling anyone trying to help you “fat phobic” or in my other examples “smoker phobic”

EDIT: before anyone says it, I’m not saying any form of shaming is okay. Laughing at anyone, or treating anyone worse due to any aspect of them they want to change is wrong. Productively trying to help them is different.

  • I am always deeply touched by your heart and grace. Seeing you struggle so, with a difficulty so many of us women share, is as difficult as it is real. Thank you for sharing your dark days as well as your wonderful ones. I see a brave young woman…I see the woman I wish I could have been at your age and I am honored by your journey. Please, never stop being just the person you were meant to be…never give up on you. There’s a lot of folks cheering for you…I hope you feel the love and the many, many prayers sent your way.

  • BDD is a beast! You must never feel like a failure and your honesty is admirable. I suffered from BDD for about 30 years, with all of the depression, anxiety, agoraphobia, mental pain and suicidal thoughts daily. I thought I was too fat, too ugly, too stupid, too hideous to exist and that the only way to end the suffering was to kill myself and that the world and everyone I knew would be better of without me.

I am now 41 and have overcome it, had three years of freedom from it. It is amazing, liberating and hard to even imagine now what I felt and how I lived as a result of it. Now I love myself and don’t even care about any flaws I see. You can beat it:)

  • Me and my partner have a great relationship, but Im certain I gain weight when I visit him. Hes tiny, he grazes on food all day, whatever junk he wants, and he can not gain weight. But I gain weight easily, and having him next to me eating like that encourages me to do the same, its a challenge I need to work on when I can see him again (ldr), because when we eventually live together I don’t want to lose all the progress I’ve made

  • Binge eating is the worst. You feel the need to feel the void inside. Purging sucks too. I’ve been at least one year binge eating and purging free. Before I always thought why doesn’t she just eat or stop eating? Then it happened to me. Lifting weights, eating the right foods, and leaving the toxic people behind in my life helped. If you’re reading this, I hope you overcome anything that is troubling you right now, you can do it

  • Excellent evidence based presentation on fat diet and heart disease and stroke….I follow Dr Fung concepts, especially fasting for reversing diabetes type 2….he is really God for all human being looking for fear free happy living without heart disease and not to worry about diabetis..treatment made very simple with fasting procedure and dr Fung advice.Lots of love from India.

  • Doctor Mike! Suggestion: what are your favorite easy weight loss tips? For example, my favorite is: drink more water. I think all those little tips combined could reduce someone’s calorie intake up to a few 100 a day with only minor changes. And I would find that very helpful:)

  • I took a bunch of celery, lettuce and cabbage and it was impossible for me to squeeze one drop of ‘oil’ out of them. Therefore, vegetable oil is bullshit.

  • The problem of focusing on weight or BMI as a rough indicator of health, is that it hugely oversimplifies the issue, and might cause more harm than good. I know that dr mike said that BMI it’s not the only measure drs use, and he gave a good example of a really muscular (and probably healthy) person with high BMI, but there are many cases in which it’s not that obvious if a person is healthy or not, and that BMI might not be a good indicator of it. In fact, people in the healthy and underweight BMI ranges have the same or higher risk of mortality than the ones in the overweight range ( https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30389323/).
Subcutaneous and visceral fat have very different associations with health, and neither wight, BMI nor waist circumference are good ways of telling if you have too much visceral fat (the dangerous one). This is a problem for many reasons, for example, people with low or normal BMI might have high levels of visceral fat, and just focusing on BMI as an indicator of their health level is harmful for them; people in the overweight range might be perfectly healthy, and telling them that they have to lose weight is a waste of their time, money, it gives them an unnecessary stress, and it might mask some other relevant problems (for example, there are many cases of malnourished people with high BMI).
Note that I only have written about overweight, and not obese or higher BMIs. This is an important difference that is usually overlooked when discussing the relationship between health and weight. Saying that being obese is not healthy might be an argument to tell people in the obese or higher BMI ranges to lose weight, but it’s certainly not an argument to tell overweight people to lose weight, and there’s a huge difference in the health problems associated with being overweight compared with the ones related with being obese.
On the other side, I know that no doctor would say that being underweight is healthy, but the constant focus on losing weight (rather than on begin healthy independently of your weight), gives the wrong message to the public in general, and might make people think that being underweight is healthy, or maybe not as bad as being overweight, when it’s actually as dangerous as being obese.
I understand that BMI is a “good rough measure” and that it “serves it’s purpose”, but science has evolved to a place where we can stop focusing just on the averages and general correlations, and start treating the individuals with the best evidence there is for their specific case.

  • Hannah, I can relate very strongly. I lost 40+ kg, have had 3 tummy tuck procedures and smash it at the gym regularly, but the feeling of ‘fatness’ still follows me. I’ve come to the conclusion that those feelings may never truly disappear, but the key is to learn how to manage those toxic emotions. With you in empathy. Also, vegans like us fucking ROCK!

  • I unconsciously said “Right?” listening to this while cleaning the house. Its like talking to a friend with the same exact realization as I. Forgive me for sharing but I used to be 230 lbs, lost 70 lbs in 2016, took my time with it and did it for a period of a year and a half. The recipe for sustaining weightloss is changing your habits permanently. Like you said this is a commitment for a lifetime and you just have to choose between longevity and a few minutes of pleasure. And ofcourse its a no brainer. I still gain 5-7 lbs every now and then but it seems easier to lose. And just like you I am still overweight lol, according to the BMI scale but happy that I maintained my weight anyhow. A work in progress forever I guess. Congrats to you and to everyone here who are making strides to do right, remember that you’re not just doing this for yourself but for those you love by staying healthier and staying alive longer:)

  • You know Hannah, even IF you gained back ALL the weight in bodyfat, not awesome and cool muscles, you still would be the Hannah who lost all that weight… because you DID that and no one can ever take it away from you… It’s hard to hear how much pressure you put on yourself, when i only can see a beautiful healthy young woman who rocks 😉 (and I would give EVERYTHING for only being healthy, right now..) you don’t HAVE to be anything to be great, or to be a great example and role model.. I would love to watch your videos even if you gained all your weight back and then some, because I watch you because I like you, and your personality, not your looks..:) But you are doing soo great, I know you know Abraham Hicks and stuff focus on THAT and all the love you have in your life with your husband, your animals and your beautiful place to life.. I send you a hug from across the world:)

  • Holy crap Girl you look GREAT!!! You look exactly the same in both pics only difference is you’re stronger now with those muscles!

  • Here’s a quote from the new book of my esteemed friend Mathew Simon, who associates the plant food with the Holy Spirit in us. The spirit part of it.

    Healing through plant food

Revelation 22:1-3 “He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. There will be no curse any more.”

The healing of the people is through the leaves of the tree! What tree is this? It’s talking about the trees that were given to Adam before he sinned. Is this garden and tree found in a specific place on earth? We must realize that the garden was filled with God’s presence. After the 2nd coming of Christ, the presence of God covers the earth like the waters cover the planet (Habakkuk 2:14). Therefore we are all in the presence of Daddy God as sons and daughters. We are all in the Garden of Eden wherever we go. The trees of the garden are the plant foods that were given to Adam and these are found all over the earth.

Genesis 2:9-10 “The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river watering the garden flowed from Eden”

This tree of life points to Christ Himself who created the plants for our healing.

Here are some of the wonderful healing properties of plant foods (according to the National Geographic)

If you have a cold/flu, then you can recover by eating oranges, strawberries and broccoli. Garlic, ginger, thyme, eucalyptus and Echinacea are also helpful. For coughs & sore throat you can use all the above and also licorice, peppermint, sage and butterbur.

Bananas are my favorite fruit! If you have depression or mood swings then you can overcome it by eating lots of bananas. It improves our memory and alertness. These bananas also give us energy and strengthen our muscles. It’s also good for the heart and it relieves constipation & stomach ulcers. It’s great for heartburn and indigestion (gas).

Apples help avoid Alzheimer’s disease and protects against Parkinson’s disease. It also helps reduce cancer growth in the body. Apples reduce cholesterol and make our heart healthier. It prevents hemorrhoids and relieves IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It heals the liver and boosts immunity. Apples also prevent cataracts in the eye.

Blueberries may be small but they help burn fat and protect against aging and brain damage. It helps fight allergies and reduce pain because of their excellent anti-inflammatory properties. Blueberries also make us feel good mentally and therefore they are a good medicine for those with Parkinson’s disease.

Oats and beans help reduce cholesterol and fight heart disease. Spinach, kale and other green leafy vegetables also help reverse heart disease. Most fruits and vegetables give us strong protection against heart disease, diabetes, hypertension & cancer.

Many diseases are cause by inflammation within different parts of our bodies. Inflammation is caused predominantly by meat, dairy, eggs and chemically processed grains. It’s because our body reacts to the foreign substances that God did not design for us. Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory spice that is used to treat arthritis, skin problems, eczema, psoriasis and joint pain. It also prevents heart disease and cancer. Inflammation can also be treated with cacao, calendula, ginger and tea.

High cholesterol can be controlled with garlic and oats. We should aim for the total cholesterol lower than 150mg/dl instead of the doctor’s recommendation of 200mg/dl.

Heart disease can be treated with dark chocolate (cacao), garlic, grapes, pomegranate, soy and tea.
High blood pressure can be controlled with a low-salt low-fat vegan diet with fruits including grapes and leaves of parsley. Flax seeds and hibiscus tea also reduce the blood pressure.

For arthritis you can use cayenne pepper, ginger and turmeric.

For asthma you can use eucalyptus leaves.

Spinach is good for improved bone health due to its calcium content.

For bronchitis you can use butterbur and juniper berries.

Gingko and rosemary helps in circulation. Rosemary also helps in cognition.

For allergies, you can use butterbur leaves.

You can treat dermatitis & eczema using avocado, calendula, coconut oil and oatmeal. In fact many natural oils are beneficial for skin ailments.
Dandruff can be treated with fenugreek oil, lemon and tea-tree oil.

For those who suffer depression – getting sunshine, walking near greenery and listening to uplifting music is good along with taking St. John’s Wort plant or medical cannabis (hemp) oil supplements.

Diabetes can be treated with fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, aloe and ginseng. Fruits like banana and apple also help in regulating the blood sugar. People have treated both type 1 and type 2 diabetes with a low-fat vegan diet consisting of lots of fruit.

Indigestion can be treated with cardamom, fennel, ginger and peppermint.

Insomnia can be eased with passionflower and lemon balm.

Women can treat menopause and pre-menstrual syndrome with dong quai, kava and shatavari.

Those suffering with migraine headaches can use butterbur and feverfew.

Urinary health problems can be treated with cranberry, juniper berries and parsley.

Men facing prostate problems can treat it with pomegranate, spinach and tomato.

Reproductive health can be treated for women using raspberry & motherwort and for men using broccoli.

Studies have shown that medical cannabis or hemp can heal a large variety of diseases. Truly the healing is found in the leaves of the tree of life (plants, fruits, vegetables).

The meat of dead animals brings sickness and early death but the tree of life brings healing and long lives!

God has restored mankind back to the garden by removing religion (the law) and giving us healthy food. We can be free from religion by knowing the truth of Christ’s finished work in 70AD. We can also be free from bad health by feasting on God’s original diet in the garden. We can receive physical and mental healing through a low-fat vegan diet.

God did not create man to eat meat or to hunt in jungles like the carnivorous bloodthirsty animals. He gave us intelligence and wisdom far above all such animals. He created us in the garden where we can eat plants as peace-loving human beings.

Today the meat, dairy and egg industries contribute greatly to the pollution and degradation of the environment. We can bring healing to the planet by eating a vegan diet that will heal our bodies and save the earth and it’s environment.

  • I agree with you, Doctor Mike. I’m considered morbidly obese based solely on the BMI metric. I know the risk of my health and what to do to improve my quality of life. But what drives me a little bonkers is this: when I visit a new doctor for a specific reason, like an open wound in my skin that I can’t treat on my own. Instead of treating that open wound (which became worse after the second visit), the doctor treated my obesity first. The issue I came in with initially became compounded with infection, that if she had treated on the first visit and not the third, wouldn’t have caused as much pain. And I mean each visit had at least 7-14 days between them. So it took almost 6-8 weeks to get the treatment I needed. It really turned me off. I didn’t go to the doctor before because I didn’t have the PTO. Since that incident 5 years ago, I now have the PTO, but I don’t go to the doctor at all. I keep my dental and vision appointments. But anything medical falls by the wayside. Because it’s not just that doctor but others that do that. It’s like dating. I’m not letting someone score after the first date. Build a relationship first. Get to know me and I’ll return the favor. I’m tired of feeling like nothing more than my SSN.

  • Thank you for sharing your struggles sweetie ❤️ I think this is VERY common and it is so easy to go down the slippery slope of negative self talk, negative self image, and then using food to comfort ourselves and actually sabotaging our journeys. You are not alone. You are human. The hugely important thing is that you recognize what this is and you pick yourself up and get going again! I would miss you immensely if you stopped your videos. Please know you are loved and your passion is contagious. Big hugs my friend!! ❤️

  • This is just a bunch of overweight, insecure people who want to lash out for their terrible health choices.

Food ADDICTION IS A PROBLEM like EVERY OTHER ADDICTION……. Stop making excuses and blaming doctors for your problems. We aren’t here trying to kill you, we are trying to help you get better

  • You should be everything to you and not peopl online and to help with body dysmorphia look in the mirror less, or buy clothes that make you see your self better. Also don’t pay attention to other people’s shape. Notice when you changed your thoughts to how great your life is you stopped crying. Sometimes changing our focus is the key.

  • Statin drugs are poison and destroy the heart muscle. Alfred Alberts has apologised and is spending his own money to develop a new drug like A1-Milano to treat heart disease.

  • You do what makes your soul happy, don’t worry about us. Either we’re here to watch your journey or not. And the ones that have empathy, can relate or are looking for inspiration will support you. To me you have inspired me to do what I know I should have done a long time ago which is work on adopting a plant-based diet. Yes it’s about weight loss but more importantly it’s about quality of life. My life, my family’s life, animals lives and our planet. Since having children I struggle with identity and using food for comfort. I have weight to lose but also look at the faces of my two year old and 6 month old and know that I have to be the best version of me for them and my wonderful husband. For us all to adopt a healthier lifestyle sets a standard for our girls as they grow into young women. Anyway I appreciate your videos and the lifestyle you’ve inspired. ❤

  • You can say that that’s not the kind of person you are and that all you do is help people and in your own words not “break someone down” but don’t act like it personally effects you

  • I was told that being overweight ran in my family while I gained weight due to depression. Until I moved out and realized nobody runs in my family. I’m now an athletic slim girl who can run 5ks every morning and a hardy slab of ahi for lunch. What happened to those genetics fam?

  • We can actually change our genes base on our lifestyle but IF we are willing to change and stop being fool by believing that genetics made our future lmao.

  • I haven’t even know abou BDD.But I have it.I did not know that I have this disorder. This thing,is killing me.I hate every day,cuz I know I can’t escape from my skin. And I can see how my family is judging me cuz I am going to the gym.And they are 24/7 saying that I look like Rambo or why I dont do cardio.I want to sleep over my life. And sorry if this shit made someone sad,I just had to say cuz I know people here will understand what am I talking about.

  • Thank you for making AND posting this video! I am happy to have found your channel. I think you at 133lbs is AH-MAY-ZING!!!! Fit, strong and beautiful. I can relate to the body dysmorphia issue though, for sure. I am currently at the heaviest I have ever been in my whole life, 213lbs and am very depressed. Mind you, in the last 3 years Ive given birth naturally twice and I am SO proud of my body for that. However, before babies I weighed between 145-155lbs and I felt absolutely disgusting. I felt morbidly obese. I’d love to see that number on the scale but that feels like it will never happen for me — ever! Today, I went shopping for some workout clothes to give myself a little boost and everything was so tight, even XL’s were too tight. I used to be a 36D and now I am like 42 or something who knows. Anyways, keep strong and power on — you are awesome, possum!!! oxo

  • Today I was at my wits end. I spoke to a friend how I was feeling and she suggested I read up on bd.
I was at 242 and at got down to 170. This video connected with me on so many levels of the constant feeling that I need to get smaller, thinner, healthier, and essential better. I also gained 20 lbs when o started weight lifting. For most men gaining lbs while weight lifting is a good thing, for me it wasn’t. I felt like a failure and like I had failed all those friend, family members and strangers that congratulated me on my weight loss. I stopped weight lifting and tried to just eat right and nope the weight has stayed on.
I’m in tears right now because All I did was look up body dysmorphia on YouTube and something drew me to your video.
Thank you for posting this. I truly truly thank you, I thought I was becoming crazy and unhinged.

  • I strongly suspect that your weight gain was largely bone density. Load-bearing exercise increase bone density, which is extremely positive for your long-term healthfulness. Trust the measurements!

  • I´m an alcoholic and sober for a few years. But it is still hard. People like you help me to continue fight the addicten. You show: it is possible. Love and respect to you.

  • Hannah, everyone struggles with negative thoughts and we all have our days where we feel emotional and lose our desire to do the things we love. I know this video has to be an encouragement and blessing to alot of your viewers. It’s nice to know we aren’t the only ones struggling. I really feel like society and social media make us feel not good enough and with that being said I am a firm believer that taking breaks from social media is good thing. So we can get our focus on more important things. Thank yOu for being an inspiration. God bless you and your husband.

  • Thank you so much for your video! I can relate to so much of what you said. Especially the part about responding to your environment or reacting in a way that you used to (peanut butter cookie ice cream sandwiches). I worry that if I don’t eat the thing, I’ll miss out or later on, feel like I’ve missed out and over eat.
Also, how you said on days you restrict you end up overeating in the night time! I’m at that point now where I have started gaining more control over my eating and I like how it feels. I can see how easy it would be to just keep restricting, so I’m starting to fight that mentality and it’s really comforting to know that someone else is going through the same thing. <3

  • I think people are getting confused yes curves are fine stretch marks are normal a little bit of jiggling on your thighs it’s all gravy but you have to know being 500 lbs is not healthy

  • I like you!! Something about watching you feels so authentic though our struggles aren’t exactly the same. Thank you for sharing this ❤️

  • Dr. Jason is real doctor with humanity we really need doctors like him who never slaughter their patoents for their business but peovide true information as well as treatment for healthy life. In India it is really worse has become the dumping ground of all kind of Marketing Business Strategies bombard through stars advertisements and medical treatments I’ve lost my Dad & Aunt due to diabetes recently well slauhtered by medical poliies. Thank You very much Dr. Jason Fung for being the hope of every patient out there in ‘Business Marketing Butchary’ of 2020.

  • I can definitely relate. Thank you for speaking about this and overall just being brave to talk about it. Take it day by day girl.

  • I would love to have Dr Mike for my doctor! In my whole 49 year’s I’ve only ever had one doctor that I felt really cared about my health!

  • Thank you for your candour! you are such a strong woman, with lots of courage to post this! Definitely it help us all! I love your channel and you being transparent and honest always make me come back to your videos! Sending you abundant love and hugs!

  • What happens is that once you reach a certain point you look in the mirror and don’t notice your weight gain. You try to compensate and buy clothes that hide it in your head. And over time you start accepting it as if it were normal. You only notice how fat you are when you lose weight and see old pictures of yourself.

  • Never trust the experts. Trust expert opinions that come from people in whom you detect the lips of wisdom. That is why I listen to Dr. Jason Fung.

  • I have been binge watching so many of your videos lately for inspiration & just wanted to take a moment to thank you for being such a genuine human being <3

  • Dr. Jason…. great information thank you very much… your videos changed my life on so many aspects… using these information I cured many conditions I had and improved my health….

anyways would you tell me how to to increase the Resting Metabolic Rate?

I want to increase it so I can eat as I want cuz I cook so good…but I want to stay lean after my long time fasting…

I know that it is better to eat every other day or 1 on and 2 off but when I eat I want to eat as I please… so how to bring my RMR high so I don’t gain fat?

    Best Regards.

  • Too long, didn’t watch? Here’s the summary:

Eat real food. Reduce intake of all processed food, especially carbs. Get all of your daily food food in 3 meals or less, and avoid snacking.

  • Thank you for posting this, I know it wasn’t easy. I found this video while researching BDD. I’ve been struggling myself after losing almost 100 lbs. I’ve really felt hopeless and lost. People always have nice things to say about someone’s appearance when they lose weight, but so many fail to realize the mental health end of it. I’m in therapy after having a mental blow-out from the pressure and on my way to better days. Hope you’re doing well and wishing the best for everyone out there struggling. You’re not alone.

  • Great video! I think it’s painful to be confronted with reality when you’re trying to hide from it. But in the end like the Dr explained it’s not being brought up to hurt you it’s being brought up to help you.

  • In my most honest opinion, I think most of these complaints come from people dealing with overweight (either themselves or people closely related to them) and they simply don’t want to hear it. And I get it! I really do! I used to be a smoker myself and there pretty much wasn’t a single day going by where no one made any comment about how unhealthy it is and that I should quit etc. It’s tiring and it hurts! It hurts because you either made the choice to be this way and feel like no one is willing to accept that, or because you’re disappointed in yourself for not being strong enough to do something about it. But just because you don’t like to hear it, doesn’t mean people are “shaming” you. It just means they care. Otherwise they wouldn’t bother saying anything at all. That said, I’m also pretty sure most people are perfectly capable of telling the difference between someone pointing out health risks and someone intentionally trying to hurt you.

  • hannah youre absolutely like really quite magazine and actress looking wat a big accompli8shmentstruggle with staying aass close to my goal of the last 15 lbs as I can-like not to gain weight-and I have excess skin to deal with-love these videos u make

“There are only two comparatively complete foods, milk and eggs.” Ken Kern, Of course both animals must be raised on their natural foods, the product hand processed with no heat and eaten mostly raw for full benefit. It is documented,

people have lived for over one year on NOTHING but eggs and water. Talk about a complete food.

“Eggs have long been recognized as a source of high-quality protein. The World Health Organization (WHO) and other public health authorities actually use eggs as their reference standard for evaluating the protein quality in all other foods. Egg protein is usually referred to as “HBV” protein, meaning protein with High Biological Value. Since eggs are used as the reference standard for food protein, they score 100% on the HBV chart. The high quality of egg protein is based on the mixture of amino acids it contains. (Amino acids are the building blocks for making proteins.) Eggs provide a complete range of amino acids, including branched chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine), sulfur-containing amino acids (methionine, cysteine), lysine, tryptophan, and all other essential amino acids. Their protein is sometimes referred to as a “complete protein” for this reason.” WHF Eggs

“Eggs are nature’s perfect food, providing excellent protein, the gamut of nutrients and important fatty acids that contribute to the health of the brain and nervous system. Americans had less heart disease when they ate more eggs. Egg substitutes cause rapid death in test animals.” Weston A. Price Foundation

“A human study shows that Lutein is much better absorbed from egg yolk than lutein supplements or even spinach. Lutein in the blood is many-fold higher with eggs than spinach.” Journal of Nutrition August 2004, Note lutein is a key nutrient most of lack eggs is a simple way to get it

“An analysis of 120,000 men and women over a fourteen year period found eating as much as one egg per day did not raise the risk of coronary heart disease or stroke. Indeed eating eggs might benefit HDL and triglycerides.” Harvard Study 1999 in JAMA, Note I often eat four eggs a day and average well over one per day and have been for thirty years.

“Egg yolks are the richest source of two superstar carotenoids—lutein and zeaxanthin. 1. Not only are bright yellow yolks loaded with these fat-soluble antioxidant nutrients, they are more bioavailable than those found in vegetables, corn and most supplements.2,3 While these nutrients have a reputation of combating macular degeneration4,5 and cataracts6 and supporting overall healthy vision, they have a long list of other benefits, including protecting the skin from sun damage7 and even reducing one’s risk of colon8 and breast cancer.9” Jen Allbritton, CN

“Eggs are the only food known to man to have a protein quality rating of 100. They have every amino acid you need in exactly the ratios you need them. The white has every B vitamin and the yolk has every fat-soluble vitamin. They are an excellent source of essential fatty acids, and the hard-to-get brain and heart nutrients DHA and CoQ10. Eating eggs raw maintains their chemical make-up. When you cook eggs, the protein is denatured, the B vitamins decrease, and it may destroy the DHA. Raw eggs are additionally much easier for your body to absorb. A raw egg is absorbed in 30 minutes while it takes about 4 hours to digest cooked eggs. The risk of salmonella poisoning is very unlikely from consuming raw eggs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that 0.00003% of eggs in the U.S. have salmonella. I have eaten raw eggs for 40 years and have never suffered. However, you lesson your chances even more by purchasing organic eggs.” Doctor Al Sears

Real Food, including EGGS, the best Diet: Doctor Weil MD

“Numerous studies have supported the finding that eggs have virtually nothing to do with raising your cholesterol. For instance, research published in the International Journal of Cardiology showed that, in healthy adults, eating eggs every day did not produce: A negative effect on endothelial function, an aggregate measure of cardiac risk or An increase in cholesterol levels.” Doctor Joseph Mercola

“Eggs are another super food. Research has ended the debate there is no link between egg consumption and heart disease.[1]. Sadly, as Americans cut out nutritious animal foods like eggs from their diets, they were left hungry. So they began eating more processed grains, more vegetable oils, and more high-fructose corn syrup, all of which are nutritional disasters. It is this latter type of diet that will actually lead to increased inflammation, and therefore cholesterol, in your body. So don’t let anyone scare you away from eggs (and other animal foods) anymore.” Doctor Joseph Mercola

“The Absolute BEST Way to Eat Your Eggs Is Raw, hands down. I know that many of you, especially women, will find this particularly difficult to accept. This is primarily because of the slimy texture but if you whip them up in a shake you won’t even know they are there. Raw eggs are better because cooking them will damage the valuable nutrients like lutein and zeaxanthin, bioflavonoids present in egg yolk that are incredibly important for your vision. Heating the egg protein also changes its chemical shape, and the distortion can easily lead to allergies. Further, when an egg is overcooked, such as when it is scrambled, the cholesterol in it becomes oxidized, or rancid, and oxidized cholesterol can increase your levels of inflammation and lead to numerous health problems.” Doctor Joseph Mercola

“Eggs do not significantly raise blood cholesterol levels when consumed as part of a healthy and conscientious diet. Better still they are a perfect protein source because they are rich in amino acids increasing your feelings of fullness so you don’t overeat.” Doctor Eric Braverman MD http://healthyprotocols.com/DOTNET/Working%20WEB%20Files/2_egg.htm?fbclid=IwAR33UxCFwE5YWJ0vixzW2KOW7KF5uptJHYHEPTtcjXOMuqMyx6WkSpD_jh0

  • This person basically wants doctor Mike telling her to eat icecream all day, being lazy and that he would most of all, love to date an obese woman.

  • Wow! I have always thought cutting out fat was not a good thing and I am not a Dr or Scientist just someone who is self educated and always looking at the diet of the past and diseases associated with it compared to our diets today and the diseases we see today.

  • I admire how you have so much scientific knowledge about health and nutrition. I subscribe not because of your weight loss but because you can psychologically analyze mukbangers while also telling us about studies and experiments that prove how biology and the brain responds to processed foods and unhealthy ingredients.

  • I wish there was a dr fung for every sick american, imposible, but just wishful thinking. Dr fung you are the go to dr for many who partake of your expertise and honesty. I, personally have learned alot about my type 2 diabetes. There is no going back to the unhealthy past. Alot of us just followed our doctors orders without question. Taking pills for this and every ailment associated with our condition. Thank you for your educated findings that have changed many lives. God bless you, always.

  • Tbh nowadays it’s fatphobic to have good joints, be able to shop in normal clothing stores, and to have the ability to watch what you eat.

  • The “genetic card” of the thin people, is that their leptin and ghrelin does a much different job. Got a really thin friend. He feels full fast. Also those sneaky bastards, they start eating something but then they give it to you because they never finish it, they can’t. And that is why people believe that there is a “genetic card”. It’s actually a way of never ending something in one sitting.

  • I lost 30 pounds in less than 6 months but then I bought a digital wifi scale that measures % of body fat…wow…2/3rds of my weight loss was muscle. I’m trying to figure out how to not gain (continue to lose fat) and gain >25 pounds of muscle. Tracking body weight is easy…tracking pounds of muscle or lean weight is more difficult.

  • I think the hardest thing about loosing weight (at least when you’re young) is the reactions and comments from people around. I got a lot of comments along the lines of «are you eating enough?», «are you starving yourself?», «why aren’t you eating {insert unhealthy food here} as the rest of us?». Even after loosing wight my family would often go «why aren’t you eating {insert unhealthy food}? You liked that before.» and «You’ve gotten so thin». It actually feels at times that the people around you who loves you the most want you to stay fat.

  • I had weight loss surgery 1 year ago. I’m down 135 lbs. I honestly think that I look worse now than I did when I was 310lbs. When I look at myself naked in the mirror, I wish I never had the surgery. Cranked up my depression. Ruining my relationship. It’s a horrible struggle.

  • What the hell is wrong with “watching what eat”? I think it’s alright to be bulky and chubby (I don’t want to say fat) but it’s alright to be who you are. But as a human we have a certain nutritional diet to fulfill. We should watch what we eat and refrain from eating too many carbs and processed foods. Not for only the reason to maintain a good weight but to live a healthy lifestyle.

  • It’s upsetting to see a doctor trying to get on YouTube and spread awareness and knowledge, but whereas critics and the worse is all that they think he is “Fatphobic” whereas he isn’t. He has never recommended any of his diets and never did he say that they are fruitful depends individual to individual. Infact take this opportunity to learn and good to learn stuff from a doctor. Guess who saved themselves some money and got a healthy advice/learnt something new “YOU”. Dr Mike much love to you, from India thank you for spreading the awareness and teaching us all that we need to know and understand.

  • All he says is right on target, but he really shouldn’t waste his breath on these folks… They won’t want to listen and social media is definitely not the platform for engaging constructive conversations around something as emotionally charged for people as weight management in any case… (my guess is, as a family medicine doc, he would agree on this point…)

  • I am fat. Its What it is. Fat. I am trying to lose it because I dont want to get diabetes, its being difficult as F, not gonna lie, When you have to fight against that, food anxiety (I have a tendency to eat a lot When I have stress attacks) and depression its a very hard fight, every kg I lose its difficult but I know I have to do it, even if some months I am going badly.

I want to lose 20 kg. And this doesnt make me fatfobic. Its realistic, even on My darkest days.

  • THIS IS DANGEROUS..to say that polyunsaturated plant based oils are bad. This is misleading and definitely not a scientific way to discuss the topic. The biggest problem in medicine is that there is chaos in how they present studies and the results. Here a few counter parts:
    https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/2014/03/19/dietary-fat-and-heart-disease-study-is-seriously-misleading/
    https://www.vitalchoice.com/article/oily-omega-myths-persist
Its all about the context any study is made in and what the people eat in general beside the fat. Furthermore its important to know that new studies show the importance of the Omega6 & to Omega3 ratio. And Omega 3 is not only in fish oil, but also in Flaxseed Oil. Here is another lack of information. Omega 3 fat acids are very unstable. The need to be stored cool and light protected. They change into transfat’s after a while. But based on the processing constraints all of these products have long “eat-to-date” indications, WHICH IS WRONG AND IRRESPONSIBLE. Flaxseed Oil doesn’t taste bitter, but nutty till 4-6 weeks after production. Nobody cares. We are left in the chaos. On top it is important to know, and here again nobody really care, how people are consuming the animal fats? For example it makes a big difference if you eat fatty meat cooked or grilled. I am really sad about how unprofessional medicine is dealing with these issues. Everybody is confused and there is no clear message available. The best message might be: Don’t trust anybody, but yourself. Be aware that you are hacked and change this. Be aware that your digestion system is stable on a unhealthy level and want to keep it that way. Be aware that a change takes time because you need to RE-hack your digestion system. Don’t eat processed food. Variate your food. Drink RO-water. Laugh, have sex, smile and be friendly to each other. Love & Peace

  • Dr Fung, I’m an Ophthalmologist, I just want to say thank you for your six amazing lectures, all must be part of the training of the internal medicine, family Doctors, and the Doctors who are related to take care of the Diabetic patients, God Bless you.

  • I just found this video after trying on size 6 pants and them being a little loose from a brand I previously wore a size 14 in. Because I looked in the mirror and saw myself in those old size 14 jeans still. I just don’t get it. So thank you for having this video. Being able to relate helps me a lot.

  • I feel you on body dysmorphia I have face dysmorphia too. I hope it is better but I do realize this is probably something that sticks with us through our lives in varying degrees. Congrats on your continued success! I really enjoy your vidoes 2 weeks into HCLF and still figuring it out but I can tell my body is getting happier and happier. Take care!

  • Thanks only instead of lard and other animal fats, I’ll get my saturated fats from virgin palm oil and virgin coconut oil as well as avocados, nuts, and seeds.

  • I think the biggest issue of fatphobia in the medical world (that I’m hearing from fat folks across the net) comes from the instances where doctors hyper focus on the patient’s weight when the patient is there to be treated or even just examined for a different pre-existing condition or ailment, and then are berated about their weight and eventually harmed by the system due to neglect. granted, there are definitely at least some surgeries that require weight loss but this is just what i’ve observed as a bigger issue of life and death and less so about fat-shaming and being mean. some fat folk are dehumanized when seeking medical help and are seen by doctors (well intentioned or not) who refuse to help them because of their weight (because you CAN be healthy and be overweight, like doc said in the video, it’s different per case)

  • 1970 study was carried out by vegetable oil producers to boost the oil production and did propaganda against animal fat, see this is the face of modern civilised world, all liars bastards

  • I felt a little sad seeing the doc receiving such unwarranted and unfounded criticism. Its clear to me that he is a well educated and passionate doctor who is interested in helping his patients. Mike seemed distressed by them. I am overweight and have been told by doctors to try and lose weight. I have never felt that they are “fatphobic” or I never took it as them trying to fat shame me. They were telling me something to help my health improve. It’s extremely unfair and ignorant to paint a whole industry of doctors as fatphobic because one was told to lose weight or the doctors encourage their patients to lose weight. It was strange criticism.

  • Thank you this video really hit home and I was at 250 and now after 3yrs I now 169 I know I still have more to go but the person in the mirror is the same woman I see at 250. Its been very hard. I know now can get through this I’m not crazy. Thank you

  • It is so depressing to see him not smile.. wat have you done to him..he didnt even say bewoop… fix him please….come on people.. dont get offended for everything…. life is short.. live happy and make life easy for others…

  • I always get the ‘smoking is unhealthy’ talk when I’m talking about health with a doctor, my father, etc. I know. I know that very well. I want to quit someday and never start doing it again, but I’m not ready for it yet. Imagine me complaining to my doctor about being out of breath easily, but calling him a smoke-phobic for pointing out to me that that’s probably the reason I’m easily out of breath. That’s pretty silly, right?

  • Dear Dr. Mike,
Please don’t take comments like this too personally. There will be always people who misunderstand even the best intentions out of multifactorial reasons.
You are doing an awesome job here (YouTube) and since I consider you to be very authentic, it shows already how you practice medecine: with high respect for the patients, a professional amount of empathy and the understanding that EVERY health professional can learn at ANY time.
Keep your head up and keep up your incredible work!

    Dear Post-Writer:
There is a big difference between fatshaming/being fat phobic and taking your responsibility as a health professional serious with addressing as well critical topics.
It is not ok, that people of any weight, size, condition, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion (etc. etc.) get insultent frequently online or even on the street and it’s our responsibility to speak up if we witness discrimination of any kind.
However, the human body is such an amazing and complex “cosmos” that very rarely there is one part of it that can be excluded from one’s general health situation. As health professionals it is our responsibility to talk with our patients about unhealthy habits. It is a difficult task to find always the right words for every patient in every situation and for sure there are examples where it didn’t work perfectly. But in the end we see day to day the damage that is done by those habits and only by starting a conversation about it, we can start the prevention. So if you get comments about your weight in a public place: defend your body and your rights. If you are asked about your weight in a health related situation: see it as a chance to talk about it, completely honest.

    Stay happy and healthy:)

  • I feel like one of the most important things doctors need to do in dealing with the obesity problem is making sure the person knows you’re on their side. I don’t think doctors are ever actually being fatphobic but when I had a doctor bring up my weight, it immediately made me feel uncomfortable and targeted, not because what he was saying is untrue but because it triggers every single painful memory of bullying, self-shaming, feeling left out and othered that you’ve had in your life because of your weight. It’s hard not to want to close off and not listen to them in that moment. Being overweight causes such deeply rooted issues with mental health (especially with emotional eating), and I have learnt that until I work on those horrible narratives in my head, no diet or exercise routine is going to stick. Mental health has got to be a part of this conversation for there to be any effective solutions.

  • In my opinion, Dr Mike is such a positive and inspiring person. I’m applying to become a doctor next year at UNI and hearing him talk about what he loves about medicine just made me sooo happy.

  • When you’re used to being fat, the mindset stays long after the fat goes. The experiences that form your personality are not skin deep.

  • Right, so I understand that this criticism wasn’t a very good or nuanced one. But you also missed the point. You emphasise that doctors can still learn a lot about their field, but pretty much dismiss the upvoted comments. You clearly didn’t learn what fatphobic actually means and how it is used in this context (as you explicitly said). Maybe find out what they mean before doing your rebuttal? A much better answer to this would be educating yourself about they mean by “fatphobic stance” of the medical institution and not just assume they mean plain fatshaming. Your first idea is the right one, these risk scores are indeed averages and I’ll give you a hint, although you acknowledge this you don’t follow through in handling them that way. It’s just my two cents here, but also there is no discernable difference between current capitalism and “evil marketing practices”. What I’m saying is practice what you preach doctor.

  • Honestly I don’t know why there people who are proud of being overweight. It’s OK if that’s what you want but being overweight is unhealthy and will have a lot of problems in the long run.

  • The truth is they want something to feel better about themselves, because they don’t want to be healthy and start to take care of their bodies. They’re literally envious sad people, and that’s coming from someone who is obese and trying to lose weight currently.

  • I saw this video at such a good time. I just saw a dietitian about these same issues today I lost 108 lbs and thought…what now. I gained 10 lbs trying to maintain after and felt like a slob and a loser. This video is empowering thank you

  • Thank you Dr. Mike. The world is a better place with doctors like you, who cares and sympathize with patients. I hope some day I will have the grace and patience of yours.

  • Margarine was originally made by blending skim milk with beef tallow. Are there any studies with the effects of the original Margarine?

  • Dr. I am a Diabetic out of control with renal insufficiency, enlarged heart, and circulatory problem. I would love to see you. Where do you practice?

  • As a person who used to be quite big and then lost the weight: I think fat people are hypersensitive to hearing doctors talk about weight/weight loss/diet because of negative personal experiences. So there’s this immediate defensive response. I had a lot of negative experiences in the doctors office/urgent care/ER when I was overweight specifically because I was. I’ll never forget when I was in the ER after my car accident (open tib fib fracture and a host of smaller injuries) and the doctor started trying to lecture me about lifestyle changes! They didn’t even have a line in me for antibiotics/painkillers and I’m getting a lecture about watching what I eat!!! It was bizarre and humiliating while I was going through one of the most traumatic and painful experiences of my life and I’m not really sure why some ER doctor decided that it was appropriate while I was still in shock/extreme pain to bring up dieting lol. But yeah obviously he’s not fatphobic I just think there’s a defensiveness that all fat people feel towards medical professionals.

  • I think the same way after i lost weight i look in the mirror everyday and feel so ugly and fat no matter how much people tell me I’m skinny

  • Can I just leave America at this point. Like please, I’m overweight and in the middle of trying to lose weight for the sake of my betterment. A doctor telling someone that they are unhealthy is their job not a hate crime. I don’t want to be lumped with these people anymore.

  • Well I’ve taken the time to watch this whole series and you’ve not only proven to me i’ve been lied to by the USDA/FDA/USA. You’ve saved my life and I’m now an IF disciple at 50 yrs old I’m approaching a pre-diabetic state NOT ANYMORE. I now know there is a simple and better way to cure myself. Thanks to Jason Fung. God Bless you sir

  • What if ur gallbladder hurts with even plant fat? Keto diet screwed up my gallbladder. A spoon of peanut butter or some eggs will send my pain through the roof!

  • Wauw just found your channel. It’s like a godsend seriously I was kinda fed up with losing weight I lost a lot but I just didnt have motivation. But this, this motivated me thank you!!! I prevented a binge eating and feeling bad bc this!

  • Bottom line…. eat natural, unprocessed food. If it was ‘invented’ in a laboratory eg. Margarine, Soda, Corn oil, cheese product, don’t touch it. Man evolved to eat as much animal fat as he could get along with eggs, berries and nuts.

  • I used to be a horrible binger and my father and brother would really push jogging and eating healthier foods. At the time I thought they were “fatphobic,” but now I know they just wanted the best for me. And in the long run (pun intended), I took exercise as a coping mechanism for stress rather than chocolate and since then I’ve lost a lot of weight.

  • Great presentation!!!! Taking questions at the end is a very good move, allows you to stay on track. I am amazed at how many people really don’t know what processed food is. Thank you for all you efforts to educate both the public and professionals!!!

  • Girl this was so relatable. I lost 100 in less than a year and I’m constantly being cautious of my body and looking in the mirror can get really confusing at times…sometimes I’ll go to touch legs and what was there isnt anymore and I have small panic attacks. It’s a hard thing to go through. Stay strong.

  • I can’t thank you enough for making this video! I’m going through this now, and I am probably twice your age! Thank you for your courage and wisdom! Lots of love from Croatia!

  • Grateful to your commitment with your patients and the community in general. Diabetes’s has been in my family for a while. I started gaining weight with a vegetarian diet and thinking I was eating healthy. My sister diabetic condition is getting worst and she’s frustrated. I am translating this information to her and now we have hope she could change her prognosis. These videos are so comprehensive, covering all the areas important. Thank you

  • 40 years ago Dr Atkins came out with the keto diet. I used it and lost at least 10 kg and felt great
And he got crucified for the amount of fat in the diet
It got that bad for him, that it forced him to exclude most fat from the diet.
40 years later he was correct.!!!
Now I’m going back on his high protein + fat diet to bring down my sugar. As I am told I am diabetic.
So I’m looking forward to the advice if Dr fung. So I don’t have to take silly medication to get my body functioning properly
    Thanks Dr…

  • I hope you’re really, really proud of yourself! You’re beautiful and healthy now and investing so much in yourself. You accomplished so much, keep it up!

  • You’re so right like I really do think that it’s so hard to see weight loss when you’re losing weight and even after. Keep your chin up girl you’re a really great inspiration to me!

  • The fact that you say you need to lose 20-30 lbs when you have a healthy BMI is harmful to those with anorexia or vile M.I.A. those who believe they are never thin enough. I really get that you are trying to be weight positivebut the fact that you focus on overeating, binge eating, etc you’re only talking to people who experience eating and weight from your experience.

And that’s fine but you need to stare that and if you want to instruct ALL those who have issues with weight you have more work to do.

  • Thanks I can’t fit into everything.. I thought I could because I eat healthy and exercise now. I thought this lifestyle would fix everything, but I still have to work on my self love.

  • I have never watched your videos before. I found this video when trying to investigate some of my own issues. I recently lost 100 lbs and have maintained my weight loss for 6 months now (over the last 6 months have been stable where I am now, give or take a few lbs). I am dealing with the exact same issues as you with body image. This video describes everything I’m feeling about how I feel, how i think I look, how I realize that I am so far from where i used to be but don’t always see it. Thank you for posting this. It is comforting to know I’m not alone… now on to find ways to accept my body and teach others dealing with the same thing!

  • I have watched the whole 6 teachings and am greatly amazed at the deptof the deception from our trusted medical associations.
God will richly bless you doctor.
I will start spreading the news and your teachings.
If I have a handbook on this, from which to follow,I will do the teaching everywhere I go, free. For I have received freely.

  • I am going through the same thing after losing 125…..it’s insane…… It’s crazy……I needed to hear this……. I NEEDED THIS.

  • Who says that he is ” fatophobic” docter but he wants you to live a healthy lifestyle, who ever worte
that in that app that preson is a bot and he is one of the best doc in the world

  • Dr Fung, I have recently discovered your videos and I’m totally blown away with the amount of information and value you are delivering. Thank you ever so much, I did a 12 day total fast and so far I’ve lost 14 kg already and I felt so great. Something I have not felt in 20 years the feeling of winning. My goal is to go to 58 kg, so I can go out and buy myself a brand new suit. Ha Ha. Anyway the doctors here has diagnosed me with esophageal cancer and a few others malignant spots in the liver. My question here is, would you consider making a video on suggesting a strategy to do whatever I can to heal myself? I understand that I must lower my weight even further, stay away from all sugars and wheat products. Eat a truck load of green crucifious vegetables to keep the body alkaline. Anyway, I’m sure you know what I mean. Thank you again. My Best regards

  • Hannah. We flipping LOVE you. You are helping so many young girls, im recovering from bullimia but am now a healthy weight. im 30 years old and my husband and I do Ayahuasca and Mescaline maybe twice a year for healing, my life is now a beautiful living tapestry of love, we have gradually naturally stopped eating meat and without your help with keeping meal times exciting I don’t think we could have done it so fast! You are a lifeline and a beacon of hope for all girls and guys who need healthy practices in place and a mindset to match. You are glowing with health and your raw honesty really touches me when I hear about your struggles and road to happiness. You are a gift of inspiration to so many people! I love seeing Derek and his transformation also as does my husband who is an engineer at British Aerospace Engineering. You have helped inspire us to start plans on an Aya retreat. Thankyou thankyou thankyou, we LOVE you so much, sending healing hugs from England xx

  • Dr. Fung skipped over statins pretty quick, but recent studies have shown that people taking statins can have a 50% increase in developing Type 2 Diabetes.
It would be interesting to know his opinion.

  • Why is it that when I eat cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots I see no proteinuria in the toilet bowl. When I eat anything else, I see bubbly urine in the bowl? WHY?

  • His explanation of graph “Dietary Fat & Stroke: is not only counter-intuitive, but his explanation is not consistent from Q1 and Q5. This was very confusing. Any other explanation?

  • For those complaining about doctors please realize they are also being duped. I had 1 doctor who was so shocked that my cholesterol and numbers were so good despite being a diabetic. I told her it was because I ate real butter instead of margarine. After a while she realized it was true. My latest doctor told me the latest suggestions were for all diabetics to on statins and BP meds not matter whether they had problems or not. So I told her I planned on reversing my diabetes so she didn’t prescribe the recommended meds. Now I’m off all my diabetes medication and my numbers are now normal. Doctors prescribe what most patients want.

  • The information presented here which demonstrates that the US government dietary guidelines as well as the unscientific advice from various nutritional and medical organizations were purposely calculated to produce the worst health outcomes possible. Worse still despite the growing body of evidence which goes back more than seventy years including anecdotal information, the medical establishment continues to peddle the lies.

  • Totally relate, so thankful to be healthy now. However I am working in this train of thought, not being satisfied or being fearful of going back to the old weight. I see myself differently than I am sometimes, it’s a self worth thing. It’s now manifested as orthorexia and I’m getting through it day by day. Love you and belive in you, and in myself. It’s a big change and yes I measure and try clothes on too… it’s rough. Our human vessels are healthy!!!!☆♡

  • I eat relatively alot of animal fats (saturated fats) and my vldl (the bad cholesterol in the arteries) is superlow. So yeah I agree with Dr Jason Fung statements in this video. My own experience underscribes it.

  • Wow, I never knew you had this issue. I have struggled with BDD for years now….. wow. I have more respect for you now after knowing you’re reached these depths that so many of us who’ve lost weight have. I don’t feel as alone now. Thank you for being open, it’s saving so many of us

  • One thing that I regret in my life is how much I bullied other kids that were fat.
I remember one girl brought her father in school to defend her, and he was fat too so I made fun of him also.
WHY!!! I DON’T KNOW, my parents always thought me to be kind to others. All I can say is sorry.
Not so long time ago I saw that girl again after many years and she came up to me and said hi.
She was looking very healthy and I was really happy to see her,.
But my brain just wanted to get out of the situation and go home and cry of shame.

  • I dont get why people just dont understand that, being fat is bad for your health, try to improve, fatshamingnis awful, but dont hide in that when you see the facts

  • It’s not embarrasing, actually it’s really sweet. And we thank you as well for your research and your trying to help us all. I’ve never been fat, but since i can remeber i had a few pounds to lose. These few pounds hunted me all my life and as a result i have really bad relation with food. I would starve or binge or excercise till i throw up or give up, cry and go out to eat. Now i’m 23 and slowly trying to fix it. I want you to know that your videos really help me, especially when i feel like i cant do it anymore. Thank you!

  • The corn oil explanation did it for me. There really is nothing natural about corn oil particularly the way it’s prepared and when you think about it what is the point anyway trying to get oil from something that is not naturally oil anyway. All Just to support some daft theory that these unhealthy oils are healthy. Thanks Dr Fung

  • If somebody complains about fat phobia I immedietly get frustrated, Because there is usually little chance I am going to get through to them and explain that its about health. Nobody wants to be shamed, I get that; Nobody wants to die early either.

  • Dr. Fung Thank you for your excellent lectures. I forwarded your information to Orrin Hatch of US Senate, who is in charge of defining new health plan (Trump Care?). I also sent information about your approach to the White House with request that they investigate your medical approach to reduce cost of the health care in the United States. Low Carbs and fasting should become standard medical approach to care for diabetes. Based on the information I found on youtube I reversed diabetes and lost 30 pounds. I was under medical care for for diabetes 8 years. Now my A1C is 5.3. Thank you again.

  • Just lost 12 pounds in the last 2 months. All I did was start counting calories and exercising 4 days/wk. I’m only just starting this process, but I already feel so much better physically and mentally, I can’t imagine ever going back to eating mindlessly like I used to. Everything you say in your videos is DEAD ON, losing weight is straightforward once you’re honest with yourself.

  • I literally have to subscribe now the lack of script brought out your full personality and I love it . Also love what you do and happy for you for getting yourself into a healthy lifestyle!

  • I’ve had a huge weight loss as well. At my heaviest I was 250 and at my rhinestone I was 120. Now I’m around 158. I know I’m smaller than I was, my problem is that even at my smallest my body was never perfect. No matter how much exercise I did I still had loose skin and fat in my problem areas. I got so down on myself because I always thought if I just got skinny I would be perfect. But I was never perfect.

  • I’m a male that lost 120 pounds nearly 6 years ago (I’m 25), I’m very tall and very handsome and no matter how many times I try to tell myself that I don’t see it when I look in the mirror! I see fat everywhere, any loose skin I see shoots to my core and I feel so bad, like I’ve failed somehow! So frustrating!

  • Doctors don’t tell people who are built like that, and healthy, that they’re disgusting, and naninanina, N O doctors are telling you to not eat a lot of sugar etc, because it’s UNHEALTHY.

  • My doctor told me the same thing that DR. Fung here is talking about. My doctor is amazing so is DR. Fung. It’s not your bad cholesterol being high it’s your good cholesterol being low and the best thing to do to raise your good cholesterol is to eat nuts like walnuts that are the best pistachios even seeds organic pumpkin seeds organic sunflower seeds. The best fish to eat is salmon but it’s a lot better to eat wild caught salmon stay away from farm-raised salmon. Olive oil extra virgin olive oil is very good but the problem is when you buy olive oil at a grocery store and you see the color looks yellow stay away very expensive olive oil imported from Italy you’ll notice that the color is green that’s when you know you have really good olive oil. Back in the seventies in the 80s my grandfather everyday would do a teaspoon of honey but to reap the benefits of honey Manuka Honey is amazing but make sure that you don’t buy honey from the store unless it’s from a local resource raw unfiltered local honey is the best have some amazing healing properties. Sugar bread starch carbohydrates those are the killers. As we get older we to eat more protein plant-based protein and lower the carbs.

  • The pharmaceutical companies & the sugar industry controls the American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association and the FDA. They also control our medical schools.

  • Can you get type2 diabetes if you eat loads of sugar straight after a 72hr or longer fast? I got a headache after eating too much sugar after a long fast.

  • Los médicos tienen el deber de advertir como el estilo de vida que uno lleva puede afectar la salud. Después queda en la decisión del paciente aceptarlo o no, no es una cuestión de fobia, es una cuestión de salud.

  • On industrial seed oils cleverly marketed as ‘vegetable’ Even the citric acid used in processing (deodorizing, necessary to disguise the rancid odor of these oils) is synthesized from corn; it does not come from citrus fruit.

These oils were originally used for industrial purposes, not food. They might be fine fueling a diesel engine. After all, the inventor used peanut oil.

  • Thank you for making this video, I just lost 85 pounds over 9 months and I didn’t know why I was looking in the mirror and crying all the time, literally my brain isn’t contacting with my body, I am going to help for it now but it was nice to watch a video where someone understands

  • Thanks Dr. for the Factual direct meaning of all these studies.
It boils down to eating healthier real foods. That is Tao wisdom and follow Nature’s way!!! Live longer healthier and happier!

  • I know this is really off-topic but it’s cool to see someone else from McMaster having such a huge platform like this and become so inspiring to thousands of people!

  • When you speak about arteries clogging that may cause strokes. Well 5years ago I had a bi-lateral bleed type does diet effect that from happening

  • I know this is an old video but I know exactly how you feel (felt) with demanding so much of yourself. I do the same thing where I’ll achieve one goal and then IMMEDIATELY expect something better from myself…when I got my Associate’s degree in the mail last year I didn’t even celebrate…I just said “wow, that took me way too long, now I need to get my Bachelor’s.” I didn’t even realize I was doing that! It’s insane. Way TMI, but, my point is you’re not alone!:)

  • Amazing, I owe you a big thanks sir. From Australia. I have been having high blood pressure for the last 10 years. I had cancer tumour as well, Liposarcoma. I weigh 94 kg, at 47. Pl define fasting is it mean, absolutely no food or water and foods that keep our insult low… Can you please name the food that keeps our insulin low.. Thank you. I have watched all your videos on YouTube. Thank you very much.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to conduct these lectures and for your willingness to share them. This has been so informative and encouraging. Can you say whether or not freezing vegetables and fruits destroys the beneficial fibers? I rely a lot on frozen foods in order to reduce spoilage. Thanks so much. I know this is an old video and you may not answer my question. I just thought I’d give it a shot:0) Have a great day!

  • Jason is absolutely correct! Food industry is killing Americans by adding sugar, PUFA, transfats, and removing fiber to increase shelf life. 10 corporations control 90% of what Americans eat! Get angry, revolt against the propaganda and get cooking America! Avoid the fast food trap and the old paradigm which is a calorie is a calorie is a caloriethis is FALSE. A calorie from a coke or a cupcake is certainly far worse than a calorie from a blueberry or from a piece of cod. While your stuck at home avoiding SARS-COV-2 go learn how to cook and teach your kids about healthy eating.

  • Thank you for your candid honesty about binge eating. I appreciate your openness. I’m in the process of changing myself in this area. Your videos help me so much.

  • Everything these days is a sensitive subject material. Someone could say something negative about picking your nose and someone, somewhere in the world will be hurt and “cancel” you for it.

  • Want to cure your diabetes? High BP? and most other ills? Then do alternate day fasting and that will cure most all your ills in a matter months! Simple effective and it works! Eat every other day and drink water, juice, tea coffee, etc when ever you wish! But eat only every other day! This is a simple remedy from a top leading Japanese physician who cures %80 of all his patients! And the remaining %20 end up on much reduced medications, no insulin, etc.

  • I never thought you were fat phobic, ever, you are too nice to judge people by appearance, I don’t know why haters do that? Don’t mind them dr Mike, you are doing just fine

  • Boredom eating was my worst habit growing up. I’m glad I’ve lost 18kg and put on muscles over the last year. My biggest advice to anyone struggling is stop eating proccesed food and daily exercises (weightlifting and cardio). I do a 3 day split for my workout. Push, pull, legs and rest for a day. Good luck

  • 6:30 you didn’t clearly delineate between unhealthy and healthy “diets”, there are many unhealthy diets that doctors (not necessarily you) consider healthy only because they would lead to weight loss for example significant calorie restriction even when it’s more than the patient can handle and leads them to ignore their hunger and/or binge, they ignore that knowing how to cook healthy food that tastes good is vital because in order to sustainably eat healthy you need to enjoy what you eat, these diets consistently lead to eating disorders, lifestyle changes with eating can be positive but overly restrictive eating or diets with too many rules, diets that rely on ignoring hunger etc are extremely unhealthy and lead to disordered eating, when doctors talk about diets they need to understand that most people understand only the unhealthy version of diets, they’ve never heard of it’s important to have a balance of food because different categories of food give different kinds of energy and these vitamins and minerals will make you feel great and you can make healthier food taste way better with learning to use spices, they’re usually just told “lose weight” “eat less” and THAT is harmful, most people don’t have real strong healthy eating education to understand that eating healthier is to make you feel great and strong and energized and make your body work it’s best so it can keep working for you, telling a patient they need to lose weight or they’re gonna have a heart attack isn’t a great approach because you’re basically scaring a person into eating less, and that’s not really gonna work

  • I love it when sober argumentation, common sense and logic overtakes ideologies, monetary interests and ego of “professionals ” That constitutes a healthy foundation for progress and truth.

  • A year ago i was fat. I decided to lose some weight. I didn’t like to be called “plus” I WAS FAT and that was the reality….of course i wasnt happy about it when it was pointed out but lying about it its not good either.

  • Can you take fiber supplement separate from your normal foods and will it have the same effects?

For example, if I eat a lot of carbs, can I just take a lot of fiber supplement in equal amount to balance it out or can’t I? If I can why not just tell people to keep track of carbs and fiber and for however much out of balance you are, just take the necessary fiber to counter act since all the food nutrition for most places is known…

  • The reason people were going on low fat diets was to help decrease their overall calorie count, it also helps people eat healthier (avoiding fast food fired food etc) and has the benefit of reducing your cholesterol, the reason more people are getting diabetes isnt because of low fat diets its because nobody ever follows them for longer than a couple of weeks. Look at the surge in growth of fast food industry over the past 20 years and there’s your explanation for the surge in diabetes.

  • Hello.. I am new to your community. thank you for your helpful videos! I am a homogenous APOE4 carrier which puts me at the highest genetic risk for late onset Alzheimer’s disease and cardiovascular disease. If you know anything about this then you know that the wise choice for a way to eat is a whole food, plant based diet. As an APOE4 carrier my body tends to hyper-absorb saturated fats and cholesterol even saturated plant based fats i.e. coconut oil, palm kernel oil and cocoa butter. I have undergone numerous lipid profiles, some more detailed than others, which have indicated that any added dietary cholesterol and saturated fats to my diet results in an elevation of both my triglycerides and LDL. Therefore, a lot of what is proposed for the ketogenic diet can actually harm those of us who carry APOE4 (which is approximately 15% of the US popluation). To help mitigate my risk factors, I eat a diet rich in cruciferous vegetables, other colorful veggies and fruits, orange and purple sweet potatoes, lots of beans and lentils, nuts and seeds, and complex carbohydrates in the form of quinoa, brown, black and wild rice, oats, millet and barley. All of my fats and proteins are plant based very little, if any oil (EVOO & avocado, only). No foods containing preservatives, that are heavily processed usually not processed at all (thus “whole”), no added sugars, etc. I began the 16-8 intermittent fasting regime over a month ago. Fantastic! This is the pattern of intermittent fasting that has been recommended by Dale Bredesen, M.D. (an internationally recognized expert in the mechanisms of neurogenerative diseases & researcher out of California who specializes in Alzheimer’s risk mitigation and in some cases reversal of symptoms in the early stages of dementia). Please provide more information in your videos for those of us who cannot eat a ketogenic diet for health reasons. It seems like everyone and their grandma is on this high meat, high fat diet which the majority of the nutritional research indicates is extremely dangerous to maintain for anyone, not to mention for those who are APOE4 carriers (please read, if you haven’t already “The China Study,” by T. Colin Campbell, Phd & Thomas M. Campbell II, MD).

  • Thank you for this… I just commented on your latest instagram post, but thank you for this. Your raw honesty and authenticity are what draw me back, they give me hope and help me stay strong and keep having faith, because I am new to this and finding it weirdly hard…despite seeing dramatic changes in three weeks…. to believe that this really is it, the holy grail for me… so, consistency and patiences are two words you use and I find myself saying them all the time now. I know this is not body dysmorphia, more an issue of faith, but… I still find your raw realness gives me such hope to overcome and stick it out and keep going. You do it… and I at 51 darn well better be able to do it. You have a million comments… I know you may not read this, but that is ok… I needed to say it, put it out there for you, my thank you.

  • I have struggled with my weight all my life and I really appreciate Dr. Mike’s insights and sharing the science of weight management. I have not heard him say that being overweight is ugly, unattractive, or any other judgemental comment he is always focusing on health!!!! It is sad that some people have had so many negative interactions with health care professionals that cause them to have a cynical view of Dr. Mike’s helpful posts they can no longer differentiate fact from their own interpretation of those facts. You can be beautiful and attractive and overweight but think about long term health and own that too. Thanks Dr. Mike.

  • Dr. Fung, In this video you said full fat dairy (milk and cheese) is good for you, what about IGF and insulin spike milk and cheese cause?

  • Great video! I’m interested in the artery adjustment rice time to they did, post fast food meal… not that I’m concerned by fat intake… since fat isn’t, apparently, the enemy we used to hear.
A natural diet containing fat isn’t likely to be detrimental to our health…
But as you show… much of our fast food diet isn’t natural…
and I am self imposed prisoner of that fast food diet… it’s just too easy to eat on the run, since I drive for a living.
But, on a positive note… I’m on day 6 of cutting out pop.. I’m a lifetime addict of Pepsi and Dr Pepper and mr pibb….this is my current battle to conquer… then I can move in to the next health habit change..

Oh and… I’m subscribing to your channel… “I’m loving it!”

  • Am I the only one who thinks that she seems to be a rly pleasant person to get along with, like the way she expresses herself and having that natural kinda humor

  • HI Dr. I am one of your fans and I think your a legend and an honest person.I am the opposite of obesity, I am slim, 48 years old, 168 cm tall and 58 kg weight. My legs are very very slim. My aim is to build my mussels and have a better look of my legs. I need your advise.

  • Well, a lot of things you said in this video describes my exact troubles.
I wasn’t aware of my binge eating habit until recently. As in the past 10 years I have lost and gained my weight back and fort while never really grasping, why I just can’t keep it off fully.
I would restrict myself with diets that are not possible or are simply unhealthy to contain a lifetime.
I now realize that I can not tell when I am full.. I am not able to understand when I have eaten enough food and that I am full. Instead I eat more just so that my plate is empty and if there is still more delicious food on the table I just continue eating just because it is there. It is so unhealthy and unnecessary. My body does not need this much food.
It’s like when I am eating, that I lose control of my body and are not able to fully understand and grasp my actions. Then after the meal I would feel so guilty and hate myself and my body just to do the same thing the next day again.

  • I read somewhere that people shouldn’t have a relationship with food, relationships are with other humans.. easier said than done

  • 25 years ago I was 300 lbs and lost 170 lbs. I can tell you that the longer you stay away from fat and sugar, the easier it is to say no. You will eventually lose the cravings. I NEVER crave or desire fat or sugar. I can walk past a cookie and not even think about it. When I do eat something I can usually only take one bite. It tastes gross to me. I took a bite of a McDonald’s burger that a friend had bought several years ago. I honestly gagged because it was so salty. It’s hard for me to believe I used to eat that crap. Good luck to anyone on their weight loss journey. It’s a difficult journey but so worth it! The cravings are gone and I get to go clothes shopping at any store I desire and I love the way I look in clothes now.
I have watched 3 of your videos so far. You are sweet young lady and I am glad another channel I watch recommended you. I can tell you are definitely inspiring your viewers by the comments they are leaving. God bless you dear!!!

  • When I took Nutrition 101, 45 years ago, we were told that ALL food (except water) turns into glucose eventually, even fat. Have modern studies and research found that to not be the case with ingested fats?

  • In my opinion we shouln’t mess extravirgin olive oil and all other vegetable oils. As Dr. Fung said Mediterranean diet is a good one an EVOO is the basis of this diet. I definitely agree with him about insulin and too much carbs are harmful (I’m Italian and I grew up on pasta and bread!) EVOO is a great vegetable oil anyway, probably the best fat of all to fight many form of cancer and desease. Any consideration? I’m changing my diet, from mediterranean to mediterranean without pasta, bread and any processed carb.

  • Hey you might not see this but you and Joe Rogan have really changed my life. I’m 16 and I started watching you and Joe Rogan a lot during this pandemic at 14 I was 178 and lived a sedentary lifestyle I started training martial arts due to joe Rogan and thanks to your videos I have learned self control and how important your mentality is I’m now 6’0 and I weight about 165 but have lost about 8% body fat. My mental and physical health have really flourished and I really want to thank you for making these videos.

  • Are the references in this seminar listed in your book or accessible to public? I’d like to review and digest this in detail. Thank you.

  • At 44:08 on the timeline Dr Fung says that Canola oil is bad for you because it is a polyunsaturated fat. Canola oil is a monounsaturated fat, so since he says olive oil and avocados are OK, can I assume this was just an error and carry on using Canola oil, which is better than olive oil in terms of omega fats?

  • I totally feel you and you’ve put a name to something I’ve also struggled with since losing all my weight. Thank you for putting yourself out there for us, thank you for sharing your life with us and for helping so many of us. I am new to you (just found you and been binging on the videos so sorry I am just catching up!) Blessings!

  • Thank you for sharing your struggle with us. After losing almost 40 lbs I still feel exactly the same, even at my lowest weight I still felt “fat” like I would never be thin enough. I was wondering if anyone else felt that way, and found your channel. You are beautiful, stay strong and keep up the good work

  • Ballet teacher problem here: I tried atkins for 3 months and very frequently while I taught ballet from 3:45 to 7:45 I would get stabbing pains in my calf, one time I actually fell over.  I took potassium & magnesium & potassium salt  but if I pushed hard to get off the ground I would get a cramp. My body seems to like regular food with available glucose during ballet teaching, like apples and grapes, smoothies, egg sandwiches etc.. So I want to go back and try intermittent fasting and water fast for 3 days to get into ketosis. Then I want to eat normal for my teaching hours to burn glucose during ballet teaching hours and deplete what I’ve eaten during those hours and then switch to ketosis for the 20 hrs after to burn my fat stores and repeat this every day I teach. Or is my body not that flexible and as soon as I start eating the good carbs to teach would my body not use it and just replenish the stores from my fast first. Can I play with ketosis and Glucose like this to use it for teaching ballet 6 days a week for 4 hours? I hope someone can help me with this because I can’t find this answer anywhere. I hate the feeling of ketosis while working but can deal with it in evenings and obviously sleep lol!

  • Hannah you are such a beautiful person. That’s why so many people love you. I was already vegan and at a healthy weight when I came across your videos I watch them because you are such a kind, genuine girl and you make me smile. I don’t have any vegan friends and when I see your vidoes I don’t feel alone anymore. I can’t thank you enough. You are so much more than your weight loss story.

  • They had me believing pork was so bad for the heart. Beef also. My health has did a 180.I eat 95 percent meat. 5 percent eggs and small amount green food

  • I struggle with the binge, restrict cycle and your videos make my issue easy to understand and now I can work on it w purpose. thank you

This is what being obese does to you. Saying someone’s ugly because they’re fat is fatphobia.
He’s not being Fatphobic. He’s telling you to watch what you eat because he doesn’t wanna see you getting your toes amputated or you being shipped to the morgue.

  • I take all the random laughter throughout the video as a sign of discomfort/nervousness. It’s clearly still not easy for you to talk about all of this, all the more I applaud you, that you broadcast yourself out there and share your journey, and all the insight you gained throughout, it with us. This channel has to be the single best resource on weight loss and diet on YouTube, at least that I have found.

  • I love u, what a honest open story! So helpful, All of the sudden I have it. I eat from….Boredom (!!!) never realized that…What a awakening. thank you so much. You are so beautiful and such a great personality. Love from Amsterdam.

  • The so called “French Paradox” isn’t well explained. It was considered a paradox because other countries with similar cardiovascular disease risk factors (e.g., with similar levels of animal fat consumption), such as UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, presented considerable higher rates of cardiovascular disease (and lower life expectancy at birth), matching CVD rates with those with traditional Mediterranean diet, such as Italy or Greece.

That’s why many attributed such “paradox” to some factor particularly distinctive of the French population, such as its generalised regular consumption of wine.

It turned out not to exist any paradox at all, but for a set of different reasons. First, the incidence of cardiovascular events had gone underreported by French doctors.

Second, a time lag effect, those individuals of older age had been consuming in previous decades less animal fat than the population of the same age in other countries such as the UK (since the French hadn’t always consumed the amount of animal fat and meat that they consume nowadays, neither had the Hong Kongese).

Third, the particularly high life expectancy of the French population is primarily driven by high life expectancy of the female population (the life expectancy of the male population is on the Western European average), who happened to follow a much more varied diet than in other European populations due to its particular cultural idiosyncrasy, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lower in total amount of calories, with less use of processed foods since there was a stronger tradition to prepare, cook and consume the meals at home at certain hours of the day.

  • Wow! So much of it makes sense. Thank you for revisiting this topic from a different angle. Study selection can get tricky. Be well!

  • Thanks Hannah for your vulnerability here! I totally appreciate it. I’ve struggled with body image issues my entire life and even more so since I gave birth to my daughter nearly 16 years ago. However, it wasn’t until I became a vegan 6 months ago where I began to struggle with Body Dysmorphia. I went from a size 16 to a size 10 within 3 months of becoming vegan, now I hover around a 10/12 but when I look at myself I still see the ME at a size 16.
When I came across this video it really brightened my world! You are absolutely not alone! I understand that this struggle is not only real but it is common and you hit the nail on the head when you said it’s about you not feeling good enough. The root of that feeling, many of us share, is in our feeling of not being worthy of love, which I think it’s important for all of us to remember that our lives truly do hold value and that value is based on the light and love we shine on the world and has absolutely nothing to do with our outward appearance. If we could all just remember that than we’d be winning all day! Perhaps this is a great time to re-think “High Carb Hannah’s” original message which may have shifted along with your consciousness over the last few years. Whichever direction you go I’m sure your loyal followers, myself included, will happily and proudly be on that journey right along with you! Light and Love to you!

  • Find the audiobook:The Yoga of Eating by Charles Eisentein.,its not a diet at all, and a stretch further than intuitive eating. It helped me SO much to balance my life XXX

  • Excellent series! Dr. Fung explains everything so clearly so that everyone is able to comprehend this vital information. After you watch this lecture series, I highly recommend lectures by Dr, Chris Knobbe, Dr. Paul Mason, and presentations by Nina Teicholtz, Sally Norton, and others. Eat real food the food that was meant to nourish humans.

  • Thank you so much Dr. Jason Fung. You deserve many many thanks for undoing the terrible mistakes that others have done for the humanity.May God bless you and your family and your work.

  • oh my god.
Fatphobia may exist when a rando calls us absolutely disgusting. But when a DOCTOR looks at you and says you need to lose weight because it isn’t healthy, that isn’t fatphobia. You can’t actually think being morbidly obese is okay??? I’m morbidly obese. My doctor recently told me it was time to get serious about losing weight (I’ve been trying on and off but it never stuck). he didn’t say “You’re digusting and you should hate yourself”. he just said I need to lose weight.
THAT”S NOT FATPHOBIC. You all live in some wonderland where you think a hundred extra pounds vibing on your body is a good thing. IT’S NOT. You can love yourself at any weight, but recognize that morbid obesity is unhealthy and shouldn’t be glorified. You can be as happy as you want, but I hope you’re that happy when the health problems start because you hated your doctor for pointing out you need to shed some pounds.
Fatphobia is hating us JUST BECAUSE we’re fat. That’s all it is. There may be some doctors who are fatphobic. Mike isn’t one of them. I’ve been fat all my life. I’ve seen fatphobia. This man doesn’t have it.

  • I have a question: If I do OMAD, and eat less (due to lose of appetite, not so hungry) will that crash my metabolism? Should I force myself to eat more even if I’m satisfied?

  • trans-fat is not saturated fat but is the small percentage of altered unsaturated fat among the saturated fat created by hydrogenation of normal cis unsaturated fat.

  • I think we all need to share stuff like this. Because of it I´ m not feeling alone and I see that the struggle is real and is nothing that happens just myself. For me it is interestingly different, when I lost weight I had to struggle with the thought that I am getting ”weaker”, which was part of the culture I come from. Thin people were labeled as weak and/or sick, regardless how healthy and good they are and feel in their bodies.

  • I’m 18 years old, and I’ve always been chubby. I’m 154 cm and I weigh 65 kgs. Every day I wake up feeling like this is going to be “the day” but I always end up screwing up. I really relate to what you’re saying and I hope I will be able to lose weight and have a healthy relationship with food someday. For now, I’m working on it.

  • As I understand it, any eating during a day causes a release of Insulin. Is this release of insulin volume defendant? or does eating one bite of food release the same amount of insulin as a meal. On the warrior diet, a person will have a 4 hour window to eat; if that person eats a very small amount during the 20 hour fasting period, how sensitive is the insulin response? I am trying to understand how well the body can evaluate what is put into to it by volume or concentration or type. So what is the effect of eating one bite of food to the insulin production as compared to an intentional breaking of a fast?

  • I weighed 198 pounds. I’m 5 feet tall so that was a lot. In the past two years I have lost 50 pounds and still have 25-30 pounds to go. I too had this phase where I just stopped eating..I was consuming 300 calories a day. My body got weak. My immune system began to give out. Clumps of hair fell out. But I kept working out like crazy and finally my body broke down completely. After recovering, I started eating healthy. Working out moderately. And videos like this just are so helpful:) in keeping me going without destroying my body.

  • Dr Fung, Help! I’ve been on high quality 20 net carbs keto for 2 years with IF, OMAD, HIIT, and lost 70# first year then nothing on second year. My blood sugars are rising @200-270 all day. I’m 61, T2D for 20 + years. Used to take 250 units of insulin a day. Why am I still diabetic? No alcohol, 7-10 cups of romaine a day. Nutritional yeast, etc. What do I do to lose 30 more and get normal blood sugars?

  • man i used to sneak snacks from the cupboards and eat my grandmother’s homemade desserts endlessly! i also would come home from school and literally fill a cup with (cane) sugar and eat it

  • I’m almost at my 30lbs mark and I feel so happy. Idk what happened but i truly hit rock bottom in April. I played an uno reversed card on the Quarantine 15s and lost weight.

I noticed improvements within my family too. Before they used to serve me these HUGE ASS plates and id eat it all and grab some ice cream but now they let me serve myself and I said no to ice cream (I didn’t like the flavor so I was like nah not worth it LMFAO)

I noticed when I visit home, I honestly tried to binge but I couldn’t. I didn’t want to so I said fuck it ya know. I just ate when I felt like it. I gained some water weight but I just lost it.

I feel good tbh. And I’m not like constantly broke!

  • Great Video! I do not want to be rude, but if you lost weight “a few years ago” and you have been fat for 99% of your life, you carry your age of 200+ years EXTREMELY well.

  • Well, I lost a bunch of weight once and I never felt thin enough. I looked great and I could not connect with that. It had nothing to do with comparing myself to anyone. It had nothing to do with social media, because that didn’t exist then. Maybe, the reason that I gained weight back was because it provided ESCAPE from these feelings? Now I have to lose a lot of weight again and I am doing that slowly, but you have reminded me that I too have this problem of body dysmorphia. If I ever lose this weight I may not believe that I look good enough, or that I am at my actual right weight, or that I can be content with my body. So I say to you, don’t sink into a place where you begin to gain back the weight because you just need to escape the thoughts of inadequacy. You really are fine just as you are..

  • I had a really similar story, I usually eat anything, not only fast food. My heaviest was 3 years ago at 220, that year I lose a good amount, and last year I was really fit, got abs and went regularly to the gym. By the end of the year I had some tough months, and then came the quarantine, so I started eating a lot again, gained all the weight back, ended up at 220 again. I’m working out again, eating healthy, I’m 10 pounds of and continuing. I hope in a few months I can respond to this comment with a healthy weight for me.

  • I advise you to read the book, which is also called, but the author is another Christophe Lefebvre. It says how to lose weight, and at the same time you do NOT need to follow any diets and exhaust yourself in the gym.

  • I dealt with this as a man. I was always so critical of myself and body image because of how skinny I am. I’m really not that skinny either.

  • I’ve dealt with weight issues and comfort eating problems almost my entire life. I’ve heard my fair share of fatphobic comments. A doctor telling me to lose weight for the benefit of my own health and to avoid future health complications is not one of them.

  • What if after 50 years we will told that high carbs were a good our ancestor’s 2000 3000 years back used to eat lot of fruits and they were healthy

  • Yeah but what about those people who can eat whatever the hell they want as often as they want while not gaining a pound? Genetics surely plays a role. It’s not an excuse for not being able to lose weight though.

  • i wish i could lose weight too but my parents just enable my binge eating disorder and just say i lack discipline when it’s so hard to resist the temptation to eat when they buy $100 of junk food weekly:// i rlly want to cry

  • I just wanted to drop in and say that I l know that this is off topic but it needs to be addressed…Severely underweight people are facing destructive criticism everyday and some of them have problems with their metabolism, it’s not that they don’t want to put on a bit of weight to get a normal BMI but it’s just that it is difficult to have an increased appetite/ slow down their metabolism. Even doctors say that being underweight is not a healthy weight and I agree, but some of them are not understanding of situations. Let us fight to end all body shaming and destructive criticism✊✊✊✊✊✊

  • I have just finished all 6+ hours of this and found it mostly informative and helps arm me for when i have discussions with all the health workers in my family and the ole school educated. I found some major repetitiveness on some subjects and could be clean up to less than 3 hours I’m sure. also a clear view of charts and the use of Dr Fung’s pointer would have been wonderful. But as I have just began my fasting regime and after my first fast of 72hrs with a 1 day feast i am now on a 5 day fast. My feast day do how ever are being regimented along the OMAD idea which I think may be a great idea but will monitor my self to be sure. But I must say I am very happy with the info and the excitement from Dr Jason Fung and hope I can loose 30kg now, which is 10kgs more than I initially planning on, to prepare myself for the knee surgery I am facing in the next 7 months. Nearly 6 years now so hoping for an update soon on all this data. Thanks!

  • Fun Fact Even flys who pretty much eat everything won’t even touch trans fats… good experiment, leave butter and margarine outside for a few days. the flys will eat the butter but they won’t even touch the margarine

  • “Cancer” is caused by sugar, fructose, fungus, yeasts, molds, toxic diets, pesticides, dairy, hormones,” prions “, virus in meat, chlorinated water,, high oxalate crystals, high uric acid,, Stress, UV radiation exposure, G5 towers, electric magnetic radiation-damaged, heated fats, fried foods, high protein diets, processed food, refine carbohydrates.

Many people feel tired and depressed they exercise they eat healthily..They forget that Candida fungus and yeast in the body cause chronic fatigue, brain fog, chronic depression and many diseases in the brain and body ; Fungus, candida and yeast love fructose -> Fruit and high refined carbohydrates.

Fructose causes a “fatty liver”…damages the liver, weight gain, and feeds parasites, Candida, yeast in the body..

all bacteria, virus fungus love “fruit sugar “.

Read the Book called ; “”The Yeast connection handbook “”By Williams G Crook, M.D.

“Cats claw” is a an amazing herb it good for Amyloid in Alzheimer’s great also good for candida and virus also taking oregano oils, MSM, coconut oils are good for fungus and yeast or you can go to your doctor and get a prescription for anti-fungal medication called “NYSTATIN”

Watch what you put in your mouth.

Don’t dig your grave with your teeth.

Coffee (caffeine ) makes the liver to release sugar to the blood and this causes ” insulin” surge to be released by the pancreas..the result is hunger and weight gain!

you want to lose weight? no coffee, no tea….no caffeine!….coffee and teas are a drug > ( caffeine )

Liver Detoxification –. L-Ornithine is truly special, because it helps your body eliminate extra nitrogen amonia from high protein diets and other types of waste.

The liver hates fat, fried food, heated damaged fats, sugar, fructose, chemicals, pesticides -> Detox!

I LOVE chromium GTF by NOW. I have been using this for years. I’d been having a lot of difficulty with low blood sugarwith hand tremors & a foggy head. When I take this supplement daily, I feel steady all day even if I’m late eating a meal. appetite control & sugar cravings along with eating lower carbs. help keep my blood sugar in line.

  • “most doctors believe that obesity is a disease” Erm maybe cause it is in fact a disease it is one of the top disease that causes deaths each year. These people are really loving in a fantasy if they think that being obese isn’t detrimental to your health

  • My one wish in this entire series is that Dr Fung would NOT refer to cholesterol when talking about TOTAL cholesterol.
TOTAL cholesterol in meaningless. Cholesterol always needs to be differentiated, even sub-differentiated; HDL & LDL. Then further; LDL-P and particle size even Apo(a) as well. He would be great at explaining statins too!

  • There is a fine line between being fatphobic and being concerned about someones health. Too many people say they’re concerned about health and then use deconstructive, passive aggressive, body shaming language (You can check the other comments for examples) and because of that I can see why one can confuse one for the other.

That said based on what I’ve seen and watched of Dr. Mike I do not believe he is fatphobic.

  • I have now watched the whole 6 part series and many interviews of you, Dr. Fung. You are a natural teacher (and very impressive healer). Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us.

  • Some people are sensitive to dietary cholesterol. When I eat a lot of butter over a 6 week period, my total cholesterol goes to around 250. If I eat olive oil and almost no saturated fats over a 6 week period, my total cholesterol goes to around 190. I’ve done this experiment numerous times. In either scenario my cholesterol ratio remains in a very healthy range according to the guidelines.

  • What causes blood clots and high blood pressure??
When the blood becomes thick and the platelets, the clotting cells, tend to stick together, a blood clot forms.
So what causes “thick” blood? Three main things:
    1) too much animal fat in the diet,
    2) inadequate water drinking (dehydration),
    ( 3) stress, cortisol.
It’s no great secret that if one pours oil in water, the water becomes thicker.
So, when you eat animal fat (meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy, such as milk, butter, yogurt, ice cream, cheese, etc.) your blood becomes thicker.
It’s also not surprising that blood becomes thicker when one is dehydrated.

Blood is composed of two general main components: 1) blood cells: mainly red blood cells (rbc’s), that carry oxygen around to the organs and cells, white blood cells (wbc’s) that fight disease, and platelets, that help your blood clot when you are bleeding, and 2) serum, formed primarily from water and some proteins.
If your body is dehydrated, you may not have enough water to make enough serum. But you will still have the same volume of blood cells, therefore, your blood will be thicker! (Same volume of solids blood cells – but less fluid = thicker blood!)
But the total volume of blood in your body will be less because you have less serum than you should. The body has a splendid detection system for total blood volume.

When the blood volume is low because of dehydration, your body produces a substance that constricts the blood vessels so the amount of space in the blood vessels in your body will perfectly fit your total blood volume.

If there were a discrepancy, you could have an “empty space” in your blood vessels, theoretically causing an air embolus, an air pocket that, when traveling through the heart, could cause death. So the body’s mechanism to eliminate that possibility is very efficient.
Thick blood is also one of the main causes of high blood pressure, in addition to the animal fat deposits that cause a narrowing of the blood vessels, termed arteriosclerosis. When the heart has to pump thicker blood through narrower (constricted) blood vessels, the heart must pump at a higher pressure to push the blood through, leading to HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE!

Obviously, high blood pressure can be reversed – contrary to the dogma of conventional medicine,
if one just eliminates the causes as revealed here.
    -What causes dehydration?
The body loses ten glass of water every day just from the processes of daily living such as, digestion, making enzymes, etc. On hot days or when one is stressed, even more water is lost.
If we don’t replace that water by drinking pure water, we will become dehydrated. The body is 75% water and the brain and nervous system are 85% water. Please note that the body is NOT 75% Coke, or 75% coffee, or 75% milk. It is 75% WATER!

  • Thanks Dr. Mike! My cardio also told me that I need to lose weight. Eat healthy and exercise regularly to avoid diabetes and heart problems. I was 75 kilos and tried slimming coffee. I am just 5’2″ by the way. I did lose weight and was down to 58 kilos. Unfortunately(and as expected) I gained more than half of what I lost 4 months after I stopped drinking that slimming coffee. I then tried keto and intermittent fasting and was back to 50 kilos after a few months! Feels like I’m in my 20’s again.

  • Honestly, my two cents is:

A doctor calling me out for not being a healthy weight is not fatphobic. It’s them looking out for my health.

What is fatphobic is, in my experience, before (now I’m obese and working on it!), I was 57kg (and I’m 1.63cm), ate well and did 2h of gymnastics 5 days a week (bc I loved it, not to lose weight). Even when my doctors said I was super healthy and a good weight and shouldn’t diet, people called me fat. Society saw me as overweight even tho I wasn’t, and wouldn’t let me forget about it. I had a tummy and thicker thighs, and for not being “skinny” (which now I see I WAS) and people making fun of my weight, I somehow didn’t find clothes that fit me or could only fit “plus size” which made me believe I was fat, and it drove me to extreme dieting, which didn’t get me the results I wanted which then led to emotional overeating which drove to now (87kg). I also left gymnastics because people wouldn’t stop commenting on how bad I looked on the gymnastics attire, and how my “fat” giggled when exercising so I stopped working out all together because I was embarrassed.

  • I was always slim at 5’9″ and 135 pds and size 6 on a lowfat diet. I always went low fat, no sugar and no wheat or refined grains nor baked products like bread. On this diet I had perfect health and and my total cholesterol stayed between 140 to 155. My LDL stayed around 70 to 90. My triglycerides stayed 50 to 60. I felt great and had no problems with my health. Let me add I used extra virgin olive oil in moderation. In the past 10 years I read fat was good. I added butter and unlimited olive oil to my diet. I went with full fat dairy. I gained 25 pounds. I kept adding more fat and protein but I kept gaining weight. I have developed metabolic syndrome and arthritis in my knees. I have given up on eating high fat. I’m now on a low fat diet with no grains and no sugar. I now added larger amounts of vegetables. I have increased my servings of vegetables to 4 cups and 2 pieces of fruit. I’m now losing weight. My aunt kept her cholesterol at 160 by eating olive oil sparingly and she lived to 91 years old.

  • I love how Dr fung is so very unambiguous, he repeats his points on purpose and really gets the point across. Clearly big health and big pharma are worse than the tobacco companies and are run by psychopaths.

  • My mom had high cholesterol and did not eat meat so I took her off beans, rice and corn and her cholesterol levels dropped 50 points. The carbs were causing inflammation according to what I learned in my protein chemistry class I took at Harvard twenty years ago so I tried it and it worked. All her doctors told me it would not work and I knew it would.

  • and we should not be surprised why COVID19 is impacting so many “Healthy” people with compromised immune systems. Demand your governments to invest in improving your health instead and change the guidelines back to those days we cooked our foods using those protective fats (Saturated) derived from animal sources.

  • I am a Vegan I eat no fat,no oils and no meat!….(( no soy, no almond milk..they are processed junk food!))
My homocysteines are low, my cortisol is normal, I eat only two meal a day my blood sugar is below 90..I fast two days a week…Kenogenic diet it kills the liver with all the saturated fat! and creates high homocysteines in the body causing heart disease and cancer!
high protein diet will promote high homocysteines in your blood…heart disease and Cancer!
-Fat, sugar and alcohol is the liver’s enemy! you eat like a pig you will have disease.

  • I guess the issue is that people up there fats plus most of them have the standard 50% carbohydate ratio also. because there body uses the glucose first when present all the good fats cause negative consequances and the insulin is high cause of the carbs. But if carbs are significantly reduced and energy is primarily by fats (ketones) then the true systemic benefits of fats are apparent. High Carb and low fat seems to work more cause of calories reduction and require higher energy expenditure. is this kinda correct??? lol

  • As a doc. I say his explanation has so many flaws.. In fact there are so many new scientific articles in many different journals which indicate that animal fat ( high cholesterol is the cause for cardiovascular disease -> heart infarction

  • Thank you doctor. Your presentation is very informative and helpful guide against many information out telling us what to eat and what not to eat in this confusing environment. Your analysis of various types of dietary information is very empowering.

  • You are so brave to be this fragile and honest and share your deepest emotions and thoughts.
You are not alone! And absolutally beautiful anyways.

  • I lost all my weight problem when I did the 16 hours intermittent fasting, i do eat everything but in small amount and I lost binge eating tendencies which is the problem of most people due to so many available cheap buffet restaurant in most locality. My A1C has gone down below 7 and my daily blood glucose check has showed between 4.1 to 4.6. I lost lost most of my joint pains and my waistline has gone down to size 30 from 36 years ago.

  • Yeah, dietary fats not being “as bad for us as we thought” is a far cry from dietary fats are healthy. They’re not.
Dr. Ancel Keys 7 countries study has an extreme outlier for CHD and it’s Finland… that could be why Dr. Pekka Puska was tasked with stopping the Finland trend of early death due to heart attacks from the nationally typical high cholesterol diet.

I don’t believe for one second that saturated fats are in any way, good for us (including coconut oil).
Dr. Keys is vilified because the general public are idiots, when left to their own devices, and lobbyist grease the hands of politicians that influence our eating guidelines. Replacing sat fat with unsaturated fats like olive oil, and adding vegetables and fruits in place of manufactured “foods” will bring down cholesterol levels. Period. Empty, manufactured food is not what he said would constitute a healthy diet… stop twisting words.

  • Beautifully vulnerable to see this side of you and hear your journey. I’ve gained 20kg in two years from a change of job and not looking out for myself. It’s encouraging to watch your videos, thank you for sharing.

  • I have Psoriasis, IBS, and Psoratic Arthritis. I am also a Vegetarian. What can I eat since I seem to have an allergic reation to everything i eat. Milk, gluten, grains ( even rice), corn, spinach, Avocadoes, tomatoes, eggs all give me problems. The only thing that seems to not give me problems is fruit. Please help make some recommendations. PLEASE!

  • I like your interesting lectures; however, what I hate is when people use PowerPoint with lots of charts and diagrams and continue to make comments like”as you can see etc” without pointing to the exact data they are referring to. The audience becomes lost and confused trying to ascertain what is referenced, while the presenter continues on his merry way. Some times the print is so small that it is impossible to discern what is written.I watched a previous presentation where the data was projected on the screen blocking off the presenter’s face. I often wonder why intelligent presentations like these are not checked for quality by someone. In my opinion, it detracts from an otherwise informative presentation.

  • My goodness you’re so honest and insightful!! It’s a blessing to hear your struggles and witness how far you’ve come (: so proud of you!

  • It seems to me that the people who think he’s ‘fatphobic’ are probably the ones who are overweight and tired of hearing from doctors that they need to lose weight to be healthier. It’s sad that everyone takes offense to everything!

  • Interminnet fasting actually works for me, I loose around 8kg for a year and not even doing a strict diet, just not drinking sweets and cut carbs intake by1/4 each meal. I am not American so this is kind of weird for me to called doctor fatphobic just because being a doctor…

  • I have 3 questions I would like for you to answer Dr. Fung. (1): When my daughter was 14 she ate a lot of nuts that I had bought from the health food store. When it was her time for her yearly exam, her doctor said her Urine had to much protein. I had her see a specialist and they said the same thing after testing her. The doctor wanted to put her on Kidney meds, but I refused. Would the nuts have caused  this issue? (2) I love fish, but is a growing amount of reports out there about fish high in mercury that is bad so can you give expert advice on this matter of fish with mercury? (3) I saw a video on YouTube about feeding chickens corn and the youtuber stated that high amounts of corn causes accessive fat in chickens. She said if you cut open a chicken you will see all the cumulated fat from the corn. Is this true? I know you said corn is not fatty. Please answer these questions for me.

  • Agree with you 100 %. It breaks my heart when I see the deteriorating effects of obesity, and the toll is takes on a person’s quality of life. Having an honest conversation and educating someone is not fat shaming. If anything it’s one of the most loving things a person can do.

  • 23:12 Actually, many ‘primative’ and agrarian societies ate significantly more fat than Americans in the past 30-40 years have, on average. Especially since Americans have been eating a lot less fat in this time period. 50 years ago, there was no such thing as fat-free milk, or milk products. Pork was juicy and full of flavor fat. Like beef, it had a nice rim of fat around the chops, and roasts, and both were marbled. Lamb and mutton, both high in fat, were muchh more widely eaten, and not just by recent immigrants and their children. People also ate ducks and geese, both full of fat.

And everyone had meat and eggs for breakfast. Even a Dr. Suess character had eggs and HAM for breakfast.

The herding cultures across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia all ate lots of animal fat. So did the people of the Mediterranean region. Sausages in Spain and Italy are around 50% FAT. Cheeses, pork, lamb, ducks, geese… all high in fat. The French are famous for cooking with lots of butter, goosefat, and other fats. Just to mention a few highlights.

It is interesting to note that olive oil was used for thousands of years in lamos, and on the skin. Its use for food is relatively recent.

BTW, coconut is high in fat, too., So are shellfish, and many fish.

  • Obesity kills. It really is self destructive. I struggle with my weight and don’t think being told it is unhealthy is hurtful it is a fact.

  • I know individual anecdotes are not the most solid science, and testimonials are a feature of a lot of bad products, but nevertheless I have to say ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting are working for me.

  • I love the video but can you be more detailed about what fats and proteins to eat? also I love all your videos YOU IS THE TRUTH…I LIKE THIS GUY BETTER THEN BRUCE LEE NOW

  • Can I tell you something please five minutes ago I started crying because I am so frustrated with my weight loss journey and how hard I’m working but seeming like it’s not going anywhere. I came onto YouTube to get some reassurance because I’ve known for awhile that I have body dysmorphia and I get a lot of dysphoria around my body image. It made me feel so much better to see this video. Thanks Hannah, I needed this. You’re not alone and I no longer feel alone.

  • “Fatphobia” is perhaps the most ridiculous term I have ever heard.

Nobody should ever have a positive connotation with being overweight. We should trear everyone with love and respect regardless of their figure, but by no means does that entail pretending that being fat is a normal or even healthy state of body.

  • Love you Hannah. You’re so beautiful and of course you are a great example for so much people, even if you don’t think so. Thank you very much for all that you do. We need more of Hannah. You always seem very close to me even though I live un Spain. A big hug for you, Derek and the dogs.
