Ketogenic diets for type 2 diabeticsVideo Abstract ID 195994

Video taken from the channel: Dove Medical Press

In my humble and honest opinion, a ketogenic diet is the way to go for someone who has type II diabetes or is morbidly obese. The compliancy issue is a problem, however. I have done keto for long periods of time, and yes, I felt good, my blood sugar was stellar and I had energy (after the initial difficulty of the keto flu was over). Research suggests that people with type 2 diabetes can slim down and lower their blood sugar levels with the keto diet. In one study, people with type 2 lost weight, needed less medication, and.

Arguably the three most relevant ways the keto diet can treat type-2 diabetes and obesity is by restoring a healthy gut microbiome, reducing insulin and blood sugar levels, and suppressing appetite (thereby helping control calorie intake). Keto. The keto diet is a low-carb, high-fat dietary regimen which has been linked to improvements in insulin sensitivity and higher rates of weight loss — both positive factors in managing type 2. Obesity is one of the principle risk factors for diabetes and following a ketogenic diet has been shown to help with weight loss.

According to scientific article published in 2014, “A period of low carbohydrate ketogenic diet may help to control hunger and may improve fat oxidative metabolism and therefore reduce body weight.”. Keto Diet and Diabetes: Diabetic & Pre-Diabetic Adults: As we age these symptoms, we possibly explained away when we were children begin to grow and become more prevalent. The nation-wide obesity epidemic is a result of high-carbohydrate diets and unstable blood sugar levels. Many people who are overweight are also insulin resistant.

Previous short-term studies have shown that low-carb diets — including the keto diet — can improve glucose control in people with type 2 diabetes and lower the amount of medications they nee. Key Takeaways: Ketogenic diets do not increase the risk of overweight subjects developing type II diabetes or other cardiovascular illnesses. In fact, they could help lower triglycerides and insulin levels when compared to other equal-calorie diets. The ketogenic diet is naturally suited to help diabetic individuals and can go a long way into treating any symptoms of the metabolic disorder. But there are also some modifications to an individual’s lifestyle that will help combat the effects of diabetes.

Specifically, the ketogenic diet—with no exercise—can help control and reduce the metabolic factors that lead to diabetes, stroke, and heart disease, according to.

A type 1 diabetic eating a ketogenic diet can maintain blood sugar levels in the healthy range with a much lower need for insulin and only moderate therapeutic levels of blood ketones—a tiny fraction of what would be considered dangerous.

The weakness of this theory, however, is that obese and severely overweight individuals are already producing excess insulin; thus consuming a low-glycemic-index diet will not help them to achieve meaningful weight loss.

  • If ketosis cures diabetes then people could start to consume sugar again, once cured, and live happily ever after. If it is not a cure then, no.

  • Breaking scientific research shows that there’s a green vegetable that INFLAMES diabetes type 2 symptoms…
    Causing deadly spikes in blood sugar, increased fat storage, hormonal imbalances, brain fog, arterial plaque and debilitating chronic fatigue…
    There’s only one way to find out how to avoid it and that’s to click below:

  • Thank you. But I thought that most fats in animal products were Saturated Fatty Acids, and these are said to be bad for the blood vessels, as they foster the formation of atheromes. Is that right? So when I see a piece of beef, i wonder… is that good? really?

  • Yes!! it’s! possible. My mom did it.
    When my mom was detected with type 2 diabetes, with a diet and a lot of work she was able to reverse it.
    Now she is very healthy and very happy.

  • Guys. lost crazy amounts of fat does not need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I’m going to give you some tips right now. Get a popular weight loss method called Custokebon Secrets (do a google search). Thanks to it I’ve lost lots of weight. I should not even be speaking about it cause I don’t really want lots of other guys out there running the same game but whatever. I am just in a excellent mood right now and so I’ll share the wealth haha.

  • What do you think about what this new docuseries iThrive about Diabetes and Obesity is saying about the ketogenic diet?  They are saying it is not good, although it appears a lot of the doctors (except Dr. Jason Fung) are vegans of some sort.  I’m just curious, because I have been doing keto since May 2017 and have been able to keep the weight off and not want to eat processed foods.

  • I am thrilled to see an obesity MD thinking outside the box and addressing how the body functions instead of pushing pills. Bravo, Dr. Westman! I have personally been on this diet 10 days and have lost 8#, to date. I have not been hungry at all. For me, this is so much more effective than fasting, and much more practical. Certainly an idea who’s time has come.

  • hi Dr.! this is Shromona from India. I’m 23 years old, 5’2.5 and 45 KGS. I’ve been on keto for ten months now and have lost fifty pounds. however, I have had serious digestive issues lately with an unnatural craving for sugar. the moment I had sugar, I started experiencing diarrhoea. it’s been three days since I’ve been prescribed medication for amoebiasis and have been given a lot of antibiotics. I’m extremely uncomfortable with the diet that has been suggested by my doctor, which is mostly rice, bananas and other sorts of non keto food. including Greek yogurt. I’m either left constipated or with diarrhoea and am very very bloated. is there an alternative to this diet? is it possible to stick to keto even while recovering from diarrhoea and amoebiasis? I feel as if I’ve gained all the weight backof course it’s not true, but eating carbs also has its psychological affect. what kind of keto food can one eat while having a viral stomach irritation? thanks.

  • I am caucasian and thin with Type 2 Diabetes. I have never been overweight. I am now clinically underweight after one year on LCHF and struggling (Diet plus Metformin controlled).
    How do I regain some weight considering that I am unable to build muscle due to disabilities?

  • I have several friends interested in this. Were these done via more the Dr. Westman way of just eating fatty proteins with not really any added fats, Ted Naiman’s low carb+low fat approach, or traditional 75/20/5 keto?

  • I’m on so many insulin and diabetes meds like crazy I need a well deserved diet so I am going to do this for the sakes of my kids and husband

  • I agree
    I was in a keto diet and my cholesterol is too high and when i decided not to continue with the keto, i got fatter.
    I missed fresh fruits!!!!
    You are one in a million!
    The best doctor!!

  • 3 years in medication..and listen Dr john surprise that type 2 diabetes is reversible..and it is our organ(Leaver)produce more insulin…so start keto + IF 2 month..now daily checking. bg is 123-140 waiting for 3 months for Ac1 check…I don’t know what to say…to doctors!

  • Hey, why trust in the opinions of thousands of medical professionals when you can do your own case study of two people on which to base your entire hypothesis.

  • You can bet his life he was eating a lot of fat. That’s what causes insulin resistance. Not sugar by itself. Croissants are more than half fat.

  • Im into low carbs to no carbs at all my sugar is 84, lots of vegetables and fruits except fruits that are sweet, cauliflower rice and whole grains wheat bread.

  • Yeah but I would be curious to see how your patience blood sugar was after a few months on Keto. I’ve heard people struggle about this point.

  • I am not a doctor, and I knew about these results for 5 years. Where have you been? I have a few friends who are type 2, and they have not been told by their own doctors. I think a large portion of the medical community is complicit in the promotion of diabetes. This is beyond sad. I have many doctor friends who haven’t yet come up to speed. I think the medical organizations are too interested in profiting, and are not being truthful on the causes of many of our diseases. So sad!

  • Thanks for the Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you researched Loowarn Inconceivable Desire (just google it)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for getting rid of diabetes type 2 minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy at very last got astronomical success with it.

  • My problem is sourdough bread haven’t had it for months and months now. but there comes a time when you have to realize the thing you love is not good for you ☹️

  • I can hear the sceptics already “but, but, but, glucose is the body’s PREFERRED source of energy…”
    No it’s not, its only about 25% and that mainly for parts of the brain, red blood cells, and for short bursts in an emergency (that’s why your muscles hold onto glycogen and burn fatty acids for almost all routine work) Hey, but knock yourself out, have another donut..

  • Hey doc! Are you sure on that muscles only run on glucose? In the link below, it mentions that “Muscle: The major fuels for muscle are glucose, fatty acids, and ketone bodies”. I think glucose is what muscle prefers, but it can very well function on fatty acids and ketone bodies, if the claim in the link was correct.

  • Awesome video! My view is many doctors either don’t know, or they’re in with the big pharma’s for the money. My endo had me on the food pyramid and 180 carbs per day…just started keto 2 weeks ago with intermittent fasting after 3 days in the hospital with ketoacidosis. Feel great and insulin down from 75 to 20u per day. Can’t wait to see my endo next week and show him my results so far…

  • Thanks for your research. I am a speech pathologist and seeing my Dad overweight and loving sugar I knew Type 2 diabetes was coming. Surprising me, his doctor said he could eat carbs. I keep telling my Dad it will take time but now he is depressed because of slow progress. I will try and get him into a keto diet way of life. In Australia Type 2 diabetes is the 6th cause of death. Type 2 diabetes is a global problem, please continue your work.

  • Ummmm i don’t feel weak, i’ve been doing keto but my energy is amazing i even can dance zumba two full hours…. well I am not diabetic tho… the carbs i don’t eat are rice, pasta, and bread… my cancer even reversed because of this lifestyle… I limit other carbs too.. i don’t eat fats from bacon and other highly processed food… yes my HDL and LDL are in perfect range… Keto is NOT high protein diet its moderate and the ratio is 1:1… 1lb of wt = 1g of protein… Keto requires MORE water intake…ummm I am a Filipino if we have gathering i dont display drama just because of food if you are knowledgeable to Keto you will definitely have fun with any gatherings… Who told you in Keto makes you dehydrated? That’s not Keto… You need to drink at least 3L of water‍♀️…even if you are not in Keto and you don’t drink water you’ll be dehydrated… i never experienced Keto flu thank God..In Keto if we do bulletproof cofee it is recommended to add salt.. i just don’t because i am on conservative chemo.. hahahaha nope i don’t have constipation in keto… yes i agree with processed meat that causes constipation even not in keto diet so don’t incorporate that in Keto lifestyle…

  • Well my cholesterol was pretty normal a few months ago, but I decided I wanted to lose 15 lbs of fat quickly with keto from 185 to my goal of 170lbs. Losing 2 lbs per week now. Been on keto for 6 weeks. Doing 70% fat 25% protein and 5% carbs. NO SUGAR. Take a look at these disconcerting lipid test results:

    *Blood test 1 (non-NMR)* 4 weeks into keto

    * Cholesterol total: 238 mg/dL
    * Triglycerides: 236 mg/dL
    * HDL Cholesterol: 38 mg/dL
    * VLDL Cholesterol: 47 mg/dL
    * LDL Cholesterol: 153 mg/dL

    *Blood test 2 (NMR) almost 2 weeks later*

    * Cholesterol total: 234 mg/dL (minuscule decrease)
    * Triglycerides: 155 mg/dL (decrease of 81 mg/dL)
    * HDL-C: 40 mg/dL (increase of 2 mg/dL)
    * HDL-P Total: 26.4 umol/L
    * Small LDL-P: 1538 nmol/L
    * LDL Size: 20 nm (pattern b)
    * LDL-P: 2244 nmol/L
    * LDL-C: 164 mg/dL (increase of 11 mg/dL)

    I suspect it’s because I’m losing weight quickly. Thoughts?

  • I’ve started keto this week with my friend I’m t2d in 3 months I’m coming back to this video to let you know how I did. Wish me luck everyone

  • Amazing, Thank you 4 sharing dis news, hopefully it will help alot of us tired of medication and need for remission of drugs.
    Thank you alot

  • I read plenty of great opinions on the net about how Custokebon Secrets can help you lost lots of fat. Has anybody tried using this popular lose weight secrets?

  • I started Feb 2019 with an A1c of 10.1 by July it was 5.3. I was able to stop my T2D after 3 weeks on keto. I test my blood ketones and glucose everyday. I also am off hypertension meds, that took 4 months after having been on them for 10 years. Also lost 50lb so far.

  • I take 34 units twice a day insulin, and I can keep my A1C around 5.4 with some small effort, for short time I went keto, and not strictly keto, and my daily blood readings for sugar we’re the same on keto without insulin as they were not on keto with insulin. My New Year’s resolution is to get stricter on my keto and get my A1C down into the 4s.

  • And why we would need control group at all? Wherever I read about DT2 official medical position is that DT2 is INCURABLE! I guess they have proved it in past. And here we have PROOF from study patients being free of incurable DT2. And I know many first hand. Knowing this I would even say it could be even considering unethical having control group denied keto cure.

  • Nice Video! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you ever tried Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (do a google search)? It is a good exclusive product for reversing diabetes without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my buddy after a lifetime of fighting got amazing success with it.

  • It’s sad that more docs don’t tell you to do this, but I’m glad that my cardiologist did tell me stop eating carbs! I did and have lost 25 lbs in 2 months! I’ve been studying keto and it can get quit confusing at first, but if you keep studying it you will understand it more. All of my other drs kept telling me to loose weight but never told me about carbs, wow I could have had lost weight a long time ago. I haven’t felt this good since I was younger and a lot thinner thank you for this video Dr. Westman….there is a lot of non believers out there! Sad

  • The best way to gain weight in Keto is do keto and eat carbs and sugar yup you’ll gain weight. I believe education about keto lifestyle is necessity nowadays esp for those who are diabetic. On my previous comment, there are some points i kinda defensive about keto lifestyle coz it really changed my life, I was prediabetic btw, and not anymore. My cancer is reversing. I am following the right Keto… eating highly processed meat and eating bars of butter (yuck) is not even recommended… keto lifestyle requires to drink lots of water, an adequate amount of salts, optional intermittent fasting (which may not be good for diabetics), and days to eat regular meal in the real keto lifestyle… so education is very essential.

  • How to lower cholesterol: eat chicken, don’t eat too much fried foods and crisps. Worked for me when i had 246 ldl, i got down to 215 after 6 months and the doctor says to continue doing the diet.

  • On the “What Does One Eat on a Ketogenic Diet” page, there is no butter or olive oil, or coconut oil listed. Where do these foods fit in the Ketogenic lifestyle, or do they?

  • Most of people do keto to lose weight and yes it really works thats why everyone loves it but think about it i mean what are fruits made for if no one eats it anymore? Not being able to eat fruits on keto is really nonsense to me i mean its a plant based carb why would that be harmful? I went on keto for like 3 weeks or so i couldn’t lift the way i used to do i became really weak at the gym i do believe everyone needs carbs in their lives but not all carbs are good for sure i wouldn’t make keto a lifestyle but I quit processed carbs i only eat whole wheat and oats through keto, I recommend keto for people who wants to lose fat in a fast way then go back to ur normal life

  • I was diagnosed with pre diabetes. I was told to do keto. Yes I did lost good amount of weight, been thru the keto flu, but I get muscle pain on my legs sometimes. Does it have to do with the diet? And I’m good in cholesterol but except hdl it’s low. So it should help raising it up right?

  • Got any by Dr Steven Baker please? I started with IFasting, then went to keto, now am doing mostly zero carb. We have no nutritional need for fruits or veggies, just if you want a treat I guess. In on of the first charts Westman shows no need but then has CAPITAL LETTERS statement saying We need vegetables. No we dont. Why are the keto docs afraid to state what we have learned?? Heck I have only been doing this since Sept 1st (now down almost 30lbs and I wasnt sick or obese, just looking at gaining 10lbs a decade w/SAD) and I learned it, why dont they say it & sell it and use the money they make for better animal husbandry & better slaughter houses? It aint pretty but we need to eat meat!

  • Yea… people lose weight, but how are the arteries???? Just eat a ton of leafy greens cut starch… and one can get the sanme results without the trans-fats and high cholesterol.

  • Dr. Westman, if you are eating a ketogenic way of eating, and doing intermittent fasting, will the juice of 1/2 of a lemon in a cup of hot water in the morning break your fast?

  • He said ‘I like baguettes and croissants’ but (@ 1:06) he adds: “It was hard to give up, but I realized, it doesn’t do me any good.” That’s it! It’s practical, it works and he made the best decision.

  • 90% of people I know have been successful and met all their goals by following low carb high fat diet without consulting any doctor. Yes, I have reversed pre-diabetics myself, goes to gym as well. Cholesterol can be lowered by avoiding certain foods as Saturated Fats, Keto acidosis never happens unless you have some serious condition, as also you can’t be on diet if you have kidney disease. Special cases, you might need guidance. Add electrolytes, add fibres to prevent constipation. Stop paying huge sums to doctors, research and those of us with elementary education can find out all the facts from internet. Just follow Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Bernstein and lot of others

  • This presentation is one of the worst lectures I’ve seen, trying to support or recommend a Ketogenic diet. His verbiage is not concisely stated. Presenter acts befuddled and imprecise often interrupting his own points with corrections or leaving them unfinished by switching focus. Poorly stated and unrehearsed. His statements wander though the facts.

  • A1C from 6.2 to 4.1… ldl from 163 to 90…weight from 218 to 174. I also have chronic congestive heat failure and irregular heatbeat complicated by unstable angina. My cardiologist is “astounded”, (his word), by the improvement in my heart function.
    All in less than one year on strict Keto lifestyle.

  • Dr. I believe what causes cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients is the micro vascular and macro vascular damages associated with hyperglycemia. According to literature the bursting of pericytes causes the micro vascular abnormalities commonly found in diabetics. New research only links glycated and oxidized LDL to potential heart risk. High triglycerides is probably one of the biggest factors to cardiovascular incidents. Literature also mentions that high protein diets do not damage kidneys, once again high carb diets do specially when BG is above 180 mg/dl. If a person has already a low GFR level cutting protein might retain kidney function for terminal patients a few more months but the kidneys are already too damage to even matter. I am type 1 diabetic with a low carb high protein diet. I am not concerned with fat and my metabolic panel is great animal fat is relatively harmless, we should be discussing fructose particularly. My total Cholesterol was 166, HDL 51, LDL 102 vLDL 13, triglycerides 54. My HDL and triglycerides are almost 1:1 which leads me to believe most of my LDL is probably the large bouyant benign LDL, I probably have low glycated LDL levels since my HbA1c is lower than most diabetics and my triglyceride count is fairly low. All with the power of low carbohydrate diet. I think Keto is not optimal and its not the same as LCHP diets. I produce a fair amount of glucose via gluconeogenesis of the animo acids in the protein I eat, and I require insulin to digest the protein without rising above 100. I find it crazy that most diabetes specialists do not account for protein in their sliding scale method, shows how little they understand of the illness they are treating. Dr. Richard K Bernstein is a pioneer in this method. I was able to reverse my bad vision in about 4 months of normal BG my gum infections disappeared after about 6 weeks and my athelete foot disappear after about 3 months. The power of normal BG levels of 85 mg/dl. Current BG 82 mg/dl after 3 hrs from dinner no spikes above 5 mg/dl on my CGM only managed with R human insulin, humalog for occasional highs and Tresiba. I wish other Diabetics find success like I did and get to live the long complication free lives they deserve. My old doctor even said it’s not if you will get the complications, but when… with BG of 75 to 99 the answer is never…

  • My A1C is 4.7. all I eat are carbs as a whole foods plant based vegan, no oil, no gluten. BTW, both type 1 and type 2 diabetes run rampant in my family. Last time I had my blood glucose checked I had consumed a high carb breakfast 4 hours before my blood was drawn and my blood glucose came back at 88. My fasting glucose is probably lower. I also know a lot of people who completely reversed their diabetes on a Whole Foods plant-based vegan diet. There is also a scientific evidence to back that up.

    I’m not sure if you have ever heard of Shawn Baker but he believes in the carnivore diet. His A1C was 6.4 and fasting glucose was 127. His testosterone levels were that of a 90 year old man and he is only in his 40s I believe, maybe 50s and he’s also a bodybuilder and an athlete. Animal foods and fat are what cause diabetes. Refined carbs don’t help.

  • My grandson, Age 13, is prediabetic, high cholesterol, etc. The grocery wants to put him on Metformin. My daughter is convinced that the docs know best. I have been on keto since a March, 2017 and have lost 45 lbs. when I told her to go on your YouTube videos, she told me it is not sustainable and I just want to be proved “ right”. That is not my intention. To me, the proof is “ in the pudding” so to speak. She claims that the correct diet for diabetics is “ Dash”.

  • Borderline type2 diabetes too much carbs told my doctor i will cut down on bread pasta rice potatoes because I do lose weight slowly

  • Hello, Very much enjoyed your lecture. I have been diagnosed with significant liver scarring (NASH), having a liver biopsy in June. Would eating a high fat intake be safe with this liver issue, and just reduce carbs? After my biopsy, I will see the hepatologist (July) but I’m not sure if he is “keto educated”.

  • I do not have a prob lemme with hyperglycemia but am fat. Will keto lower my blood sugar more? Also can you discuss type 1 vs type 2?

  • I think you’re thinking about the veracity of the study a bit oddly. The comparison should be understood in terms of how unlikely the outcome is by chance, and so the norm against which this can be compared is not a control group, but the population norm, which is to say that diagnosed diabetics in the normal population do not spontaneously get better, but when you introduce the keto diet, they do. Look up Bayes theorem to understand this.

  • This is one variation of a non-SAD diet, SAD being the control, many of which will cause regression in T2D. These same people could be switched to a low simple carb low sugar whole food vegan diet and I’ll bet it would do the same. Same with a quality Med diet provided simple carbs and sugar are minimized. Then there is layering on time restricted eating (Panda) or mild short term fasting (Fung) which could be employed to accelerate the healing.

  • Very detailed information in this video! Thank you for helping others to easily understand & grasp what’s really going on with cholesterol. Have a beautiful day.

  • I am a diabetic and I did go on the Keto for about a month. I did loose over 20 lbs. the only problem I ran into is that my bowels blocked and I needed abdominal surgery. Scarred the crap out of me and the doctors blamed it mostly on the diet. What am I doing wrong..?

  • This doctor’s information has been so helpful for me I’m new at diabetic 2 I need to find out some information about skin conditions

  • I have discovered diabetes with A1C 11.6 and with avoiding sugar and medicaments I lower it down to about 6.5 and kept that for about 2 years, last 4 months with insulin. Then I went to low carb close to, but not keto and I have 4.7 now without any medicament. Btw I lost 75lbs in 10 months.

  • I’ve been doing keto more than one year. I lost 20kg of my weight, but my LDL is increasing and my HDL is decreasing. I’m not thinking about quitting keto right now, but I’m worried about my health.

  • I would like to see a study of reversal of coronary calcium using keto. Thus far, there are only studies, done by Ornish, et. al., of reversal using plant diet, excluding all animal, fat and dairy. When will we see such reversal using the opposite?

  • Why do you think these diabetes associations keep recommending such a high carb diet? It doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense to me. What is their justification for it?

  • Mine went down from 6.1 to 4.8 in somewhere less than a year. That was 4 years ago, last check (6 Mo. ago) when I was marginally KETO was 5.2. I’m back full KETO so it’s probably less than 5 again…KETO ans Carnivore does work…

  • I only watched through the part about exercise because i didn’t want to watch a 3rd ad… I am on Keto and that is not my experience at all. I have far more energy than I had before this diet and my workouts are literally better than ever.

  • My Cholesterol over all 12.77 and LDL + 10 mmol/L, have been on high fat diet organic for over 6 months and my doctor want’s me to go on pill to lower Cholesterol. I fill great, but doctor scare me a lot, He thinks that I could end up with stroke or even dead. How can I know if, maybe eating too much high fat food. Thanks

  • I eat rice two meals.My eating window 6hours.I do also dry fasting and Water fasting every day. I reverse my diabetes. Take every thing without sugar and process food.Dry fasting is miracle.

  • thanks so much for addressing this, it is indeed what most people get concerned when approaching keto. If in the future you can consider doing more science0y videos I’d love to get links to sources in the video description if possible? I know we can all reference each other but I get that from the outside-keto world hard unbiased data is ultimately the most valid, and thankfully there is plenty supporting the ketogenic lifestyle:)

  • The only problem I see and this is their meta-analysis which are I’ve in nature. I keep waiting to see a really good ketogenic blood work study. Instead of meta analysis.

  • The problem is not carbs. The problem is getting calories from Plants. Humans are obligate carnivores, if you try to practice veganism in nature eating grass you will die. Our natural prey is other animals. Not plants, but people noawadays are getting calories from soybean oil and Plant starches. which goes against what mother nature intended. Liver and oysters are also carby, but they are healthy carbs.

    TLDR: Healthy carbs = from Animals Bad carbs = from plants.

  • The control group is the very very long history of the treatment of diabetes where it only goes in one direction….getting worse…for the life of the patient

  • Once more thing my doctors NEVER told me, is that metformin causes vitamin b and folic acid deficiency is many users. If you take metformin, you need a high vitamin b diet or take supplements. eat high protein low carb diet can make vitamin b deficiency even worse.

  • Excuse me, but that graph CLEARLY showed that the low fat diet actually RAISED LDL! Low-fat diets DO NOT WORK! Stop being untruthful just because you’re afraid!

  • I’ve been on keto for the past two years. I lost 45lbs and have felt great. I’m 43 years old and haven’t had blood work in 11 years. I just had blood work done last week and everything was nearly perfect. My total cholesterol is 133. After two years of fatty meats, cheese, butter and green veggies it’s 133. So I’m convinced keto works. At least for me it does.

  • Having studied in medical school, you have enough knowledge to create fear amongst common public who did not have this benefit! However, have you ever discussed these with an expert doctor who has the benefit of medical education and in addition an excellent understanding of dietary nutrition and keto diets? My own experience is that most doctors who have cleared medical school, have great skills that include the abilities like doing very complicated neurosurgery very successfully. However, few have taken the field of diet and nutrition serious. This and other aspects of “wellness medicine” are far more a difficult, as controlled research takes several years and even newer findings are never reported to the medical community because these are considered “in-exact science”. Look at the number of doctors are obese, diabetic, suffer from all kind of health complications they have brought about on themselves, by poor management of their own life-style and health. These same doctors have great contributions prescribing medicines for their patients who have the same issues!

    The first thing a person who considers a keto diet should understand is that carbs are addictive and cause frequent hunger cycles, because of the high insulin secretion and resulting high levels of insulin in the blood. This can only be addressed by training the body (and mostly the mind). So keto diets are not just about eating only fat and protein and starving the body of carbs. It is about a smooth transition from the most common diets that is very rich in carbs to one that where the carbs are reduced and slowly replaced partly with fat and protein. Also, those who advocate keto diets do not believe claims that the blood markers like high LDL do not lead to higher incidence of heart diseases or blockage of coronary arteries!

  • I had 2 issues with Keto which yeah conveniently I kinda forgot when I asked on college after a depresive episode (Both I do remember were recieved with negativity from teachers), one is adressed on this video about HDL found on unhealthy and often recomended food for Keto and the other is that the body produces toxins when burning fat for energy compared to the one carbohydrates process, this causes inflamation and can be really bad long term

  • I was on Insulin for 15 Years after using the Diet, My doctor after looking at my labs, has taken me off all medication including insulin., I am so shocked after only 4 months on this diet. Thank You so much!

  • It worked for me. A1C went from 13.6 to 6.4. I expect to be under 6 in next test. My doctor initially was not overly supportive. That too changed over time. I haven’t taken any medication for more than a year. I lost over 70 pounds. I rarely have any cravings for carbs. I do eat big salads, lots of low carb veggies and moderate amounts of low carb berries. It’s the only diet that worked for me.

  • What about Saturated Fat and safety on plaque build up in the arteries, which then harden, and ultimately leads to coronary heart disease?

  • Kudos for the Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you tried Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (just google it)? It is a good one of a kind guide for reversing diabetes minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.

  • I started doing low carb not necessarily Keto and I’ve seen sugar spikes! I’ve lost weight, about 10lbs-15lbs in a few weeks. I’m trying to find a better way to keep losing weight.

  • I’m so glad people are coming around to understand and accept the keto/carnivore diet. NOW IT’S TIME TO START A DEEP INVESTIGATION INTO VACCINES AS THE EVIDENCE AND ANECDOTES ARE POINTING TO THE FACT THEY ARE HARMING MORE THAN HELPING. This is a period of enlightenment…enter with an open mind.

  • I have been on metformin for 15 years, I am 56. The metformin does not seem to work anymore. I have been (trying) to stay on low carbs since jan. 2020. I have lost 15 pounds this year. But, my blood sugar is still very high and neuropathy in jy hands and feet has gotten worse since i went low carb. Cant understand this, other than my liver seems to generate tons of sugar when my blood sugar drops.

  • Excellent. Thank you for sharing this very important information with us all. Take care, & Happy New year to you and yours too. ❤️

  • This study is very important especially to us diabetics. Thank you diet doctor, we will still continue to pursue good health with our lifestyle change

  • . It is scientifically proven by clinical studies. And he will see it with his own eyes. here is natural and safe way to reverse diabetes please visit here https://clavediabetes.com/cvv.html

  • This was great, thanks, been searching for “type 2 diabetes best diet” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about Deyophia Vanackenzie Remedy (do a google search )?

    Ive heard some great things about it and my partner got cool success with it.

  • Excellent Video! Apologies for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you researched Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (search on google)? It is a good one off product for reversing diabetes without the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate after many years got astronomical success with it.

  • Just went to the doctor today my bad LDL cholesterol was up higher than before I went on the Keto diet, I was so excited to get my blood work readings but now I’m confused. It’s 5 points higher and she wanted to start me on cholesterol medicine I said no I’ll work it out myself so I get blood work again in 6 months. Everything else in my blood work looked OK my total cholesterol was down two points, triglycerides were great and my good cholesterol was fine it hadn’t changed very much from the last time. But yeah like I said I’m confused the only thing I did different starting the keto diet is that I added fatty beef back into my diet which I haven’t been eating for like 20 years. I had to do something to help get my protein up higher…… maybe that wasn’t such a good idea

  • My Dr. is having fits because my total cholesterol is 248and the ldl is 134. He’s prescribed statins, I refuse to take them. I am diabetic, and got off all meds. But for some strange reason my blood glucose levels are rising. I believe it to be stress level, not diet induced. And also wants to add some new diabetic med back into my lifestyle. I’m so discouraged. I have worked so hard for two years. All because I moved across country? Is there much science about stress and blood glucose? Ideas?

  • The diabetes issue being separate, If this way of eating cuts hunger and thus a person eats less, then isn’t the weight loss really about the calories after all?

  • My total cholesterol went from 144 to 247 from October 2018 to October 2019, did keto from april to October 2019. I had to stop this way of eating and am actually having to take meds for now as my LDL is extremely high and HDL is low:( Not saying that this happens to everyone, one of my good friends actually had her cholesterol go down on keto, but I do think people should keep an eye on their levels just in case.

  • To all you who had increase LDL and decrease of HDL on keto… I have to wonder what are the quality of the foods that you’re eating? I feel like a lot of people are jumping on keto bc they think you can just eat all kinds of greasy food Which ain’t what this is.

  • I wish Jillian Michaels would watch this so she would stop slamming the Keto Diet off made-up science. This is not for everyone but I feel amazing on it. No change to my energy level and feeling not bloated every single day that I would feel with counting cal diets.

  • Scrap the multi vitamin eat green leafy vegetables 7cups aday. Grass fed products are best. They give animals grains to fatten them up be careful of food selection. I have lost44 pounds close to 4 month no hunger or sugar cravings

  • thanks for the video. I followed this natural treatment: thebigdiabetes-lie. com (Google it)
    and in 2 weeks my sugar levels started to fall to normal levels.

  • Honey that ain’t nothing. I started the ketogenic diet on accident I didn’t know what it was called but I just cut out every thing that had carbohydrates in it because three years ago when I was diagnosed as a diabetic due to medical complications the diabetic dietitians told me all you have to eat this and you have to eat so much for that well all that did was keep my blood sugars high and they kept giving me more medicine. So I just started eating saladsIn meat and my A1 C went from 9 to 5.1 I take no medication I don’t have cravings although I do have nerve damage that I am suffering through that I can’t get under control but my sugar is not an issue anymore and it’s one of the easiest things you can do for yourself to make a better future

  • Same with me dietitian says will be on insulin in ten years, three years later, my readings are perfectly normal, no meds, just diet, my doc said just test yourself once a month, but still test often,.

  • Good for him! Have to say, beginning the day with carbs will have you hungry all day. Begin without them and you’ll stay fuller longer.

  • Thank you for the video. For myself I was 11.1 a1c as of March 2019, to a 5.2 a1c as of August 2019 and completely off all medications. To date December 2019 I have lost 49 pounds. I am on track to be at my BMI by March of 2020. The keto lifestyle is the way for me and a complete reversal way of thinking of a diet. It worked for me.
    Please try it if you have not.

  • The TRUTH about health and weight loss.
    Eating whole plant food does NOT cause insulin resistance. We have “research” “research”, “research. Many cultures over the centuries had an 80″% + whole plant diet and not develop diabetes and had little heart problems.
    The ADDED sugar in the modern diet, white flour products, refined vegetable and the lack of fibre in the diet that is what is generally killing people.
    The healthy keto is 50% carb (yes, vegetables are carbs). Vegetables are low-carb carbs. So, healthy keto diet is a 50% whole plant diet.
    SO, SO, SO.
    In a nutshell.
    1. Avoid processed grains, no added sugar and no refined vegetable oil.
    2. Plenty of fibre from whole plants that grow ABOVE the ground, they don’t spike insulin, should be 50% of your diet, best eat vegetables.
    3. Hydrate your body.
    4. Exercise.
    That is all anyone needs to know.

  • my cholesterol rised a little since I’ve started keto, should I quit? I don’t want to because I want the benefits from keto, what should I do?

  • Ok, your diet works on weight loss but what about its effects on health longevity, on cancer, on cholesterol levels, on diabetes, on fatty liver, on kidney health? We all know low carb causes weight loss. In 2018, the health debate is all about health, sustainability, the impact on the planet and weight reduction.

  • Where can I do a LDL-P test???? I’ve checked with many clinics and nobody is doing it? A search online doesn’t give me any answers either. Any suggestions?

  • So, it’s low carb. There needs to be more of an explanation of “low carb” because fresh fruits and vegetables are carbs. I think low carb means removing starchy carbs from the diet. Breads, pastas or any refined grain products. Correct?

  • Excellent Video clip! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard about Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for reversing diabetes without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my buddy got cool results with it.

  • Low carb (not keto though) reduced my a1c from 9.0 to 5.8 in under 4 months. Going for 5.0. Of course it not a cure in that I’m still insulin resistant.

  • Great video, very informative and to the point…I had just watched Dave FeldmanNew ‘Data on Energy, Exercise, and Cholesterol’ the science does indeed agree with you…It’s a new day:)
