Science Confirms Two Ways to Lose Weight Fast There’s no denying that exercise and diet play a major role in weight loss success, but hitting the gym and making healthy food can be time-consuming. Thankfully, there’s another way. Another popular type of intermittent fasting is the 16:8 diet. With this diet, you only eat during eight hours of the day. You can technically choose when you want your eight-hour period to. I’m fasting today, my 3rd day in a row.

Last night I promised my wife that we’d eat some chocolate together “tomorrow”, meaning that I’ll probably break my fast tonight. My wife can eat all the chocolate she wants, she weighs 48 kilos (about 7-and-a-half stone). Lunch today feels substantial.

Leanfast Rapid Fat Loss. This eating plan does NOT present itself as a strict, by-the-book fasting lifestyle. Let’s set the record straight. It is a modified fasting lifestyle.

It’s also not a magical fat loss plan. My modified plan exists to help big nighttime eaters learn how to handle/manage their cravings and tendencies while also losing fat. This is an important. Participants on this fast follow their usual eating patterns on the other five days of the week.

Is it effective for weight loss? The results of modified fasting for weight loss are contradictory. Participants in some modified fasting weight loss studies lost more weight than those on traditional weight loss diets, although the difference was.

Sure, if your goal is rapid weight loss or you are morbidly obese with lots of stored fat to burn, CR is a good strategy to accelerate fat loss, but even that strategy should be combined with periods of time during which you provide your body with ample calories and nutrients, such as a weekly refeed.

  • That sample 1200 calorie menu kills me. I mean if you are not going to eat two sandwiches a day and swap the canned beans and pasta for vegetables you could eat waaaay more. British people and their pasta and sandwiches haha.

  • Another great sensible piece of advice from Steve! I’ve been running this type of eating plan for 6 months now, and combined with your rep goal system I’m making the best gains and getting in the best shape ever. It just works perfectly for my lifestyle, and most importantly it’s sustainable

  • Let me cut it down for u exercise(weight training and yoga ) for muscle gain & and diet/intermittent fasting(20/4 warrior diet) with weekly 2 day water fasting for fat loss…

  • I see the short duration fasts working for weight loss. For diabetics, my belief is that you need to break insulin resistance/improve insulin sensitivity. In my mind to do this, the longer you give your liver and pancreas a rest the better the results you can expect. It seems intuitive that longer fasts say 3 days or longer would yield better results. No pain no gain. Why not emphasize protein consumption when you come off the fast and stick to longer fasting periods to focus on insulin sensitivity? For example, Dr. Fung talks about starting his patients on a 7 or 14 day fast. Dr.Fung in his books does not seem concerned about muscle breakdown. For this reason I am a little confused by your recommendations.

  • lemme just say it for all the indians out here: the curries here are nothing like the actual curries my mom makes we don’t add cream or oil even. homemade indian food hits different istg

  • Some of your videos are contracting with your newer videos. In a newer video you said you want to keep your insulin levels low to burn more fat and that ice cream is the worst because it is dairy and full of sugar. I’m confused.

  • Good job deleting my comment Shitting on this whole concept, 2500 calories can be a surplus for most people, stop misleading people, and go ahead and delete this one as well since you don’t have the urge to reply to it.

  • Anytime I see her face I watch her shows I love her personality honestly, she’s entertaining lol… hello from America ✌️ any new shows she’s in?

  • The studies you’ve quoted are not for intermittent fasting, they’re for regular fasting. Your video title is misleading and didn’t have the information on IF and lean body mass I was looking for.

  • Thank you BHUD! Another great video. I have a lot of family this may help with. Will be sharing this with them to get them started.

  • After a long search i suddenly found what fasting method is the best for keeping muscle and loosing fat, and now I know why I am losing weight doing every 2 weeks a five day fast but not loosing size on my belly, i have lost my muscles…thanks a lot for this inspiration and free me from my self starving..,

  • It’s all genetics. There are people who eat thousands of calories per day and Lots of carbs and never put a weight, whereas there are people like me who just eat a little carbs and immediately put aside fat. We need to eat according to our type of bodies.

  • Great Video clip! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered Dinanlinson Amazing Look Approach (should be on google have a look)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for learning how to quickly lose weight without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my best friend Jordan finally got excellent results with it.

  • Could you provide inputs on Broccoli for hypothyroidism and usage of millets as part of this lifestyle change with consideration of hypothyroidism?

  • Love this. Thanks. I am wondering if you have to still pay attention to minimum carb and fat intake within the context of an aggressive diet that lasts a month or 6 weeks and is not a PSMF. For example, Do you need to be at a minimum carb intake of 100-120 to prevent going into ketosis? Or is there a reason to have a minimum fat intake for ‘hormonal health’ and therefore not feel like shit? Are these concerns a non-issue as the diet won’t last long anyway? I will try to ask Martin if I can, but I’d like to hear your perspective.

  • Hi there, have you considered this kind of diet plan called the Custokebon Secrets? My cousin says it helps people lost crazy amounts of weight. Is that possible? I also noticed a lot of good review relating to this diet plan. Thoughts?

  • Hi friend i want to know from you whether i could continue drinking two cups of tea in a day while i am losing weight and following my weight loss diet plan.. Please clearify is it ok consuming caffeine in lieu of having ice creams in a day?

  • Fantastic. Dr Ali: when you were concerned my insulin level was too low I forgot to mention that since the glucose is from my liver there is no incretin effect. My glucose response to meals is very good. If I am in my gluconeogenic spike eating may lower my BG due to incretin effect.

I always assumed I was APOE4 but now it will be checked by Dr. ALI

  • I love this channel, but I’m not buying this. I e been trying to get ripped for years now. One thing I know is, if I ate ice cream every day (no matter how little), no way would I get ripped.

  • Nice videos. I need to stay under 1200 calories a day. If I am even more agressive and stay under, say, 1000, or 900 calories a day, will I lose weight faster, or will starvation mode kick in? Thank you.

  • This video is a little more confusing than others….But after watching a bunch of “beginner” videos, its important to advance & take it to the next level… this.

  • Constant doubt, no answers from low carb experts till now..fasting sugar levels shoots, dawn phenomenon, only solution, take insulin shots, but do not want to follow for long, fear of insulin resistance setting in…diabetic from 15 years, lchf from 18 months..please give your valuable feedback

  • But what if i am already eating in a low calorie diet i am eating around 1500 cals now, and it says my maintenance cals is 2800, so uh need some advice on this thanks

  • For those wondering and worry about ‘Butter Bob’, looks to me like he is doing just fine.

  • I have about 40ish days until one wedding and 50ish days until another…I have 25-30lbs I’d like to lose…how much of that is it possible for me to drop in that amount of time and what is a realistic goal? Any tips on making the most of what little time I have?…also I have a race coming up as well but have a little longer to prepare for that, so I’m working towards getting healthier all around and not just for the weddings:)

  • that is such a falsehood!!!!

    he knows that’s not true!!!

The remaining calories in sugar carbs vs. low glycemic carbs vs. fat are going to ALL trigger your INSULIN differently and all change your fat burning, metabolism, and hormones differently!!!!

  • I don’t agree with loosing lean body mass when prolonged fasting, and here is why: protein does not equal muscle. There’s protein everywhere, it recycles, it’s in skin…. Remember the case study of that Scotish guy in the 60’ who fasted for more than a year? To the surprise of the doctors his skin shrank completely and that doesn’t happen if you are on a calorie restricted diet. Where did the skin go? The body ate it as a protein. And he didn’t loose his muscles. Yes, body eats protein but it doesn’t eat our muscle, it eats excessive protein that we don’t need. You can search for this case study on internet. And also this: our body is not so stupid to start eating its own muscles after 3 days of fasting if it did that we wouldn’t be able to survive through history. In times of food scarcity people went more than 3 days without food, probably much more. So, if our body made us weak after only 3 days of no food we would be dropping dead like flys.
I also don’t understand wtf is with taking 150 grams of protein per day when fasting that’s not fasting!! The reason you go fasting is to bring your insulin down and protein RAISES insulin so this is not fasting by any means, is it? Dr. Nadir is contradicting himself in this video. First he says protein raises insulin, then he says you go on fasting to bring your insulin down, than he says you need to take 150 g of protein per day when fasting but that will just bring your insulin up again that just doesn’t make any sense. Dr. Fung explains this topic in detail.

  • Has anyone done tests where both groups eat the exact same food, one group over three meals in say 12 hours, and one group has all the same food in one meal per day?

  • Guys. lost lots of weight does not need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I’m going to give you some tips now. Look for a popular lose weight methods called Custokebon Secrets (search on google). Thanks to it I have lost tons of weight. I shouldn’t even be talking about it cause I do not really want a lot of other guys out there running exactly the same game but whatever. I’m just in a great mood today so I will share the wealth haha.

  • This type of food:

    For recipe ideas:

Eaten slowly till satisfied at 1 or 2 large varied meals per day

    No counting calories

No snacks before, between or after your meals

    Sorted

  • Doctor!! Thanks for your valuable information, one more thing I am a very big supporter of oats cooked in milk with small amount of jaggery
In this regard can it be consumed during 7:30 pm meal time?

  • Im on low fat limited protein and veggies about 600 calories a day with biweekly blood tests and supplements and am putting away a pound a day

  • The sandwich calorie test is so misleading! Sometimes with calories comes nutrients and I can guarantee you you will stay fuller for longer after that wrap than the burger or sausage roll! This is why I don’t count calories, I just eat proper amounts of real food

  • Thanks man, you offer great advice about how to lose weight. You get to the point real quick and it’s always a awesome way for me to learn some more about fitness and dieting thumbs up, definitely and keep going

  • Butter Bob Briggs is indeed alive and well.

  • You need to talk more with Doctor Jason Fung MD about the validity of fasting. As with many presenters you seem a bit reserved when it comes to zero to very low carbs and the Carnivore diet. Fasting does not eat good proteins only damaged and excess proteins. That body is smart enough to burn the stomach contents for up to 24 hrs until it is all gone, and then go after stored visceral fats and damaged proteins and then sub containuous fats and then damaged proteins. Only after that does it cannibalize healthy lean tissue. Going with out food (meat) is a inherited survival technique from many thousands of years.

  • I would gain weight on this diet, hell i can gain weight on a one 2000 calories meal a day cut the bullshit and stick to the science, thermodynamics > your bullshit broscience

  • Around 30 min. The headache she got is her detoxing from all those carbs/sugar in the chocolate. The koffein also didn’t help, but the detoxing from sugar probably had the largest impact.

  • Guys. lost a lot of weight doesn’t need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I will give you some tips right now. Get a popular diet plan program called Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google). Thanks to it I have lost crazy amounts of weight. I should not even be speaking about it cause I don’t really want lots of other guys out there running the same game but whatever. I am just simply in a excellent mood right now and so I’ll share the wealth lol.

  • Best to stick to low calorie ice cream like Halo Top. Drink Pepsi Max and have a small portion of Skittles. Ice pops are quite low in calories as well. I’m always eating low calorie ice cream with jelly.

  • Listen to what happened to Butter Bob Briggs Makes Your Pants Fall Off:

  • At my house we use yoghurt for chicken and fish dishes all the time….you know I watch all these shows that portray indian food in such a bad light….there are a lot of ways to cook a curry…..and most non Indians don’t know that…they only know the fast food version of it….for example i usually kneed blended boiled vegetables which are usually leafy greens into my whole wheat roti with Ajwain….and have some raita full of cucumber and tomato… is reaaaalllyyy tasty and really good…and I don’t need any oil in the making…

  • This is what drives me insane. My siblings are all normal weight but I’ve always been fat, even as a child. I was active, bike riding, walking, etc but i was always hungry. 53 yrs of feeling like I’m starving.
I’ve now had a gastric sleeve to try to fix my diabetes( 18 yrs). It was a partial success.
This week (5 months in) the hunger came back but i noticed that my whey protein bars were precipitating a blood sugar spike followed by extreme hunger. After a bit of “research” I realized the whey was spiking my insulin. No more whey. I’ve felt much less hungry since I cut out the whey.

  • it doesnt matter about stupid macros. as long as you are in a calorie deficit, exercise, and eat healthy, you are Gona lose weight. no need for silly macro stuff

  • Nadir is great at admitting when he’s wrong. This is from two years ago. Has he changed his mind since? How can you activate significant autophagy without a multi-day fast? IMO, you’re already fat adapted, then your body should just keep burning fat through the fast and leave the muscle relatively untouched. [update] Actually, Nadir did change his mind see his talk a year ago at He has moved more into the Jason Fung/Meghan camp and advocates a few longer terms fasts per year.

  • What stops me from having a lot of cravings is having smaller amounts of higher calorie foods, if I give myself a list of what I can’t have I find it much harder than just giving myself a daily calorie limit

  • idk if someone posted this yet already but I loved watching butter bob back when he was braodcasting. I’m happy to have found him and I guess he must have just got tired of doing what he did. Certainly the negative people may have discouraged him. He has a face book page Bob’s Tennessee Street Plant Nursery-Baxter, TN….

  • I am a vegan that practices fasting. I tried keto and it works but if you have gout, you will have alot of gout attacks. this is why I cannot do keto anymore. This doctor should consider gout when he recommends keto to the general public.

  • This s absolutely ridiculous! Not all calories are equal. They want you to believe that 100 calories from an egg, is the same as 100 calories from crisps.

  • This is basically an eating disorder. They even use the word “thinspiration” to describe the dresses they want to fit into! As someone with an ED it blows my mind that stuff like this has been allowed to air. (Of COURSE I’m going to watch them all lol).

  • So, here’s my situation:

I’m a 155 pound guy, assuming I’m at 14% BF (that’s the highest I can be, because my arms have veins popping, which they say is possible at no higher than 14%).

I did the math on my calorie intake based on what you explained in the video, and my result was 1260 a day.

So, 5 days a week, I plan to do this fat loss strategy, with 2 other days being “2500 calorie re-feed days” that way my metabolism doesn’t slow down from being on a 1200 calorie diet too long.

So, back to my 14% BF assumption, would mean I have approximately 22 lbs of total fat on my body (22/155 is about 0.14).

If I did what I described above for 12 weeks (the whole summer) I would be in a 5700 deficit each week, times that by 12, which would be a 68,400 caloric deficit. That equates to nearly 20 lbs (I obviously will stop if I lose enough fat. I realize going down too low can literally kill you).

Will nearly all of the loss of weight be from fat? Or will a significant portion be from water? A reply answering my question (or any reply for that matter) would really mean a lot. Thanks for making this video.

  • Wow….Butter Bob’s before and after pic’s are amazing for the obvious change….but what I find great relief in is the fact that he has so little loose skin after his weight loss. I’m doing a very aggressive intermittent fasting protocol with a 100% keto diet. I have a large muffin top on my waist and loose skin is a concern. But I believe my IF protocol should be triggering lots of autophagy and I’m also only loosing 3-4lbs per week. So my weight is coming off at a gentle rate, so hopefully I will end up with skin like Bob’s.

Also…paused at 19:30 “I cut carbs but I’m not losing weight”. Weight loss is math. Yes insulin levels are a huge part of this puzzle but there is no escaping the fact that weight loss only occurs in a calorie deficit.

  • That was a great presentation. First time I’ve watched an hour long video in a while. I would recommend NOT engaging this sort of audience though. Thank you for making it.

  • Literally been doing this for over a year and nobody has spoken about it. It’s so easy and makes dinner and late night snacking fit my macros and works wonders. The only diet that I’ll stick with for life

  • Oh Felicity.. it’s the sugar my dear friend… The sugar. Get the excess sugar out. If you are reading this please look into Low carb high fat lifestyle.. please let me know how it goes.

  • Butter Bob is on Facebook using his real name, Bob Briggs. He is still slim and seems to be doing really well. I think he just lost interest in doing his YouTube videos and blog.

  • Dr. Ali, there are 22 metabolic pathways by which the body can synthesize glucose from fatty acids. The studies Dr. Phinney cites about muscle mass are deeply flawed. No one very overweight was tested. Second, the measurement system for lean mass was also deeply flawed and included loss of organ fat and lipoprotein (cholesterol shuttles). OF COURSE you should refeed with protein and healthy fat, and if you’re going to heavily exercise with a fasting regimen, you need to refeed with protein often, because torn muscle will eventually be broken down into glucose. If you’re very sedentary or only perform light/maintenance level exercise, muscle loss doesn’t happen while fasting, and Jason Fung’s research supports this.

So if you are already fairly lean and exercising often, fasting is not something you should really do unless you are going to take a break and do the extended fast for longevity reasons. If you’re looking to build muscle, you really only want to fast 20-23 hours and refeed with a lot of protein and saturated fat, like a nice ribeye=, and exercise right before refeeding. That maximizes protein synthesis on the regimen and reduces the total amount of exercise you need to do for muscle building results.

  • Dude since following your channel I have come down from 239.8 to 223.8 now my last weigh in though was a gain of.04. So I have to cut back on the dark chocolate lOL thanks for all you do.

  • it’s funny,I’m 100 lbs and based on what you said my maintenance is around 1300-1400!!I’ll die on a 1300-140) calories:D let alone if I decide to go on caloric deficit to get more shredded!!!I hit the like button anyway because I believe in what you say even if doesn’t work for me:)

  • Hello, have you thought about this kind of diet plan known as the Custokebon Secrets? My mate says it helps people lost crazy amounts of weight. Is that possible? I also read a lot of great review relating to this diet plan. Thoughts?

  • At 44:28 he shows a slide about alternate day fasting and says “this is what we recommend”. But elsewhere he says he recommends eating every day in a 6 hour window. So I think unfortunately he doesn’t understand what alternate day fasting means.

  • If you’ve been over-weight for a while and need to lose 45+lbs, try the Keto or lo-carb diets. Exercise only if you feel the need. Be consistent, work on losing a pound or so of body fat a week.

  • Thanks for the info. Wouldn’t sustaining such a low calorie diet for multiple weeks adversely affect and slow down your metabolism? Would like to know your thoughts on that. Thanks

  • Dr. Ali, Does intermittent fasting cure kidney stones or further aggravate the problem….. please help so that I wanted to suggest that to one of my relatives….

  • Great talk, I think most proteins being used are just junk protein from autophagy. Any muscle loss is more than replaced as soon as someone starts eating again by the huge jump in HGH and testosterone. I’ve been Omad for a while and I’ve lost heaps of fat but my lean muscles are noticeable bigger and I’m actually stronger.

  • There is no such thing as a successful diet.
All diets lead inexorably to one thing weight gain.
And before you go jumping down my throat. I’m not talking about a change in lifestyle I’m talking about diet in the conventional sense of the word.

  • Gastric Bypass Surgery and Nutrients question.

I know that the nutrients deficiency is high in those that participated in having this surgery but those statistics are based on those who continue practicing a SAD diet after surgery. Are there any studies done that shows if those on a ketogenic diet also have the same deficiencies, particularly those on a carnivore diet?

  • So 250kg of milk chocolate at least of a specific brand in Norway will be around 600kcal/100gram so that’ll be a total of around 1.5m Kcals, and that equates to about 195kg of body fat in terms of energy density.

  • I find I am able to much more easily bulk up on high fat low carb if I eat a lot of dairy (cheese, and other low carb forms) but only up to a point. I can eat a TOOOON of carby crap foods and stay lean, but, my health markers tend to tank. I’m actually quite a lot healthier at a heavier weight eating a bunch of meat, eggs, and cheese than a light weight eating a bunch of carby foods, whether those carby foods are mostly fruit or mostly stuff like pizza and donuts (I’ve done both). I guess I’m one of those that can stay a lean just about no matter what I eat though, but, yeah, lean isn’t necessarily healthy.

  • One of the best lecture on reality of fasting and right way of doing fasting..thank Iu Dr..amazing literature review….lots of regards from Chennai India.

  • Good info but @8min the claim that vegans cook in vegetable oils is wrong. I sauté in water and spices. Most vegan specialists/doctors advise against processed oils and focus on whole unprocessed foods.

  • Ghee is good for you though. It can withstand high temperatures much better than most other oils and it has a lot of short and medium chain fatty acids. They will actually help you burn fat.

  • That’s a wonderful video! Doc, it would be really great if you could make a video on ‘how to keep skin and hair healthy on low carb diet.’ I have been following low carb diet and intermittent fasting since 11 months and I am facing this issue of hair fall and texture is also getting rough. I have inquired with many coaches and people following this diet lifestyle and many of them have similar problems. Another problem faced by many of us is wrinkles on neck due to fat loss. We all will be really benefited if you can guide with your super informative videos.

  • Thanks for the video. Are you suggesting fast for 18hrs (i.e. noon til 6p.m.), and then the next day don’t eat at all. But when eating, eat a low carb diet?

  • When they showed what to eat…. WHERE ARE THE FRUIT AND VEG????? Those meals were all so unhealthy no wonder people are fat…. they don’t know what is and what isn’t healthy.

  • Ramadan Mubarak Max, do you have a video on how to maximise fat loss in Ramadan.
Here in UK we break fast at 9pm then start the new fast at 1:30am.
If you do not have a video it would be great if you can do a video for Ramadan enhanced fat loss.

  • Doc, I have such a wicked health care crush on you that I might even consider going to Harris County. Thank you so much for being who you are and doing the work you do.

  • Does he have any deep state theories or other conspiracy theories on the Clinton + Gates Foundations? What about his Theory on Fauci? I can only hope no

  • I am so glad I found your videos Dr Nadir… you explain this topic so much better than most. I think it’s so nice too, that you gave recognition to Butter Bob…I loved his videos as well & find him to be such a huge inspiration..i wish he was still visible on you tube.

  • I like your term modified fasting!
I watch/study a lot from Matt Schiefferle Videos(Red Delta Project) and he really preaches often that the ultimate goal of fitness should be to BREAK FREE from diet dogmas and rules.

I really like and aspire this way of living.

I currently doing OMAD and I truly prefer it over any other mainstream diet out there.. BUT like you said…with “OMAD” commitment…for me there is on a few days like a “inner resistent” because you want eat a little bit but still can’t because it’s not ya planned one meal dinner.
But w/ your approach I could grab a small meal or snack and than have my epic dinner and feel great.

Or other example what I experienced 1month ago when doing OMAD…I often was hungry as fuck at lunch…ate my meal but got really quickly full but in my mind there was this constant thought of oh man I eat only once a day today…if I don’t eat NOW I can’t have food until tomorrow…so I MUST eat more protein etc. And overate uncomfortable…happend also a lot.
What I saw on your post Steve…that your approach of modified fasting is structured but at the same time extremely flexible.

I apologize for the long comment. Truly excited about this potential game changer.
    Thanks Steve!

  • I hear lots of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets. But Im not sure if it is good. Have you ever tried this popular fat burn diet plan?

  • Low carb did nothing for me. I gave it a try for a whole year, no changes to my weight, body composition, or well being. Now 3 months into whole food plant based, I have less depression and anxiety, way more physical energy, better mood, better sleep, and I’m turning fat into muscle with just moderate exercise. That’s all I will say.

  • 4 days…as if it isn’t mostly water weight. If they did reduce their calories by 1000 a day they would have lost 1-1.5 lbs, not up to 6

  • I’m already subbed here. This is a good video and spot on. When I first started IF last fall I was doing the Leans/Gains Diet. I have since then evolved to a ” Warrior Diet” meal plan which is, in short a modified version of OMAD. OMAD is the best in my opinion, just so long as you keep track or at least a rough estimate of your calories and macros. When it comes to “keeping track” of calories and macros, unless you know the precise measurements I advise to always estimate high rather than low if you’re trying to “cut”, and the opposite if you’re trying to “bulk”. I have listened to various “fitness experts” on YouTube, and Max seems to be the most consistent with his information and the least contradictory. The other guys are good to, but I value pragmatism over all that crazy exercise/physiology science. Because 1 “clinical study” is not enough, again in my humble opinion, to make a “scientific claim”. I don’t give a damn what journal it’s published in, I need at least 2 if not 3 studies to get confirmation of a proposed theory. UNLESS that one study had a large enough sample size, then maybe, as long as there was enough diversity in the group to account for at least most of the variables.

  • Geez! That’s a helluva lot of protein to consume per day. Hard to do especially if you got a 9-5. Won’t this also wreak havoc on your kidneys trying to keep up?

  • Groundnut oil and ghee have almost exactly the same number of calories per 100g, he’s talking rubbish. Oil is better for you overall, of course, not being a saturated fat, but purely in terms of number of calories, there is very little difference

  • losing 5 lbs isn’t going to do anything your weight fluctuates about 2lbs each way of your average weight everyday depending on menstrual cycle, bloating, bowel movements, water retention and more

that is why weight loss is about a general trend over time and not ‘oh I’ve lost 2lbs im so clever’

  • In your opinion how much sleep do you think you would need minimum to help with recovery? I only normally get about 5 hours tops. Two small kids full time plus the hours I work I have to get up at 3 a.m. in order to hit the gym for 2 hours before work. And due to the other responsibilities cannot hit the gym at any other time. Thank you for your time.

  • Simple strategy to win against the “food manufacturers” is to eat whole foods rather than packaged foods. Manufactured food is not real food.

  • Did I literally just hear the word THINSPIRATION?! Just….no….not good. And is it just me or did quite a few of those women have a normal weight, including Anna? Guess that shows that as women no matter how thin we are,we always think we’re fat. But I don’t think it’s a good thing to encourage something like this. Many who have an ED will watch and just think they’re fat. Including me.

  • 11:30. GIP and genetic coding is why people shouldn’t be ashamed for being overweight or obese! Understanding how GIP works gives people the ammo to know what needs to be done to put overweightness and obesity into remission.

Intestinal sensors, when they sense carbohydrates, produce GIP. GIP goes to the pancrease and tells it to produce insulin. Excessive amounts of insulin causes people to store fat and become overweight and/or obese. A huge number of people are genetically coded to produce a lot of GIP. Those people are the ones who become obese and overweight. People, who are genetically coded to produce little GIP, stay thin even when eating a lot of carbohydrates.

  • I’ve eaten this way for over a decade now Steve. I eat once early afternoon and then once again at night (that’s the BIG meal). Occassionally I skip the first meal depending on my training etc for that day and just have a huge night time feast. It’s important to note that I dont just stuff myself full of shit food. Using this regime I have absolutely no problem staying very lean all year round and my strength levels are great. The main benefit however is that I just feel good and I love the flexibility I have in not worrying about getting my “next” meal in like I did years ago!

  • hi Max, during this diet plan, if I’m lifting heavy weights rigourously, will my muscles grow n loose fat at same time? please assist…I have around 27% body fat at the moment..I’m not eating any junk food too.!

  • A dress size in two weeks?! That’s short-sighted and setting people up for failure. DON’T. DO. DIETS. 95% of them fail, so stop wasting your money, your time, and your overall health (slower metabolism, body better at storing fat) and go for the HEALTHY. LIFESTYLE. Go veggie, go vegan, go for it!!

  • Is Custokebon Secrets useful to lost crazy amounts of weight? We have learn a lot of good stuff about this popular fat burn method.

  • So when you say that you have to hit your protein count no matter what…does that mean your total calorie count that you calculated counts but doesn’t count? So in the example you put in the video…. Total of 1650 calories for the day…if you can’t get the 165 grams of protein in the 1650 allotted calories for the day you go past the calories to get the protein in? I’m having a hard time keeping the calories within range for all the protein I have to put in…let me know and your channel has been really informative….keep up the GREAT work!

  • Thanks, great talk! I’m a neuro, so this is not my expertise, but I know from personal experience that the leanest I’ve ever been was when I ate only a light lunch & 1 large meal in evenings due to a long call schedule. I’ve always been a naturally thin runner who tried to eat healthy & never thought much about nutrition. However, my body composition changed so dramatically on this different eating schedule, I decided to look into it. What I noticed was that my caloric intake was roughly the same but I was eating a lower % of carbs & less frequently than when I’d had 3 meals + snacks. It’s DEFINITELY true that the more often you eat, the more often you trigger insulin & tell the body to store fat

  • 1200 calories is to low instead of that I think it’s healthier make cut only 500 calories so 1500 calories and do physical activity to burn 300 calories

  • For those of you wondering Bob Briggs aka butter Bob is doing awesome. He has a facebook page and is doing great. He stopped making youtube videos and started a nursery business selling plants. He makes facebook videos about his business.

  • I’ve been running this for about 2 years now. I’ve dropped 90 pounds and put on muscle. It is very maintainable and easier for me to stick to than the normal 5-6 meals a day plan.

  • Multi day fasting will eat protein if you are already relatively lean if you are morbidly obese your body is going to eat as much fat as possible b4 it touches its muscle

  • Guy, you have the best fitness channel on the internet. Your fitness advise and lectures are spot on. Common sense tells anyone that. You cut straight to the point, telling people what they need to know. Great diction and a great personality. Keep the good work up.

  • If you bypass the stomach and dump a bunch of undigested food into the small intestines, aren’t you begging for problems? After all, colon diseases have SPIKED because everybody is taking acid suppressing drugs, Tums, and Rolaids these days. Undigested food in the intestines is no bueno. Every time an Allopath comes up with a solution, it tends to destroy the patient. Allopathic medicine should be mostly against the law when it comes to chronic disease.

  • What about the sticking points people get when they diet on super low calories? Then when they increase them they start losing again. Would the aggressive style be counterintuitive here?

  • Although I agree with most of your points, you did not mention autophogy. Prolonged fasting triggers autophagy where old and damaged protein cells are removed or recycled. In doing so it allows for human growth hormones to use stem cells to regrow and or recycle them. This is the reason for the loss of protein that Dr. Phinney found during prolong fasting. Prolonged fasting is still beneficial recommended for those who can do it. One of the major benefits of prolonged fasting and autophogy is to allow the body to lower the base insulin levels as you stated.

  • Good video! So what is the reason for making sure to get enough protein? I understand it’s needed to build muscle but to burn fat, is it that important as long as I am in a calorie deficit? Or is it that protein is preferred for satiety reasons?

  • Thank you Dr Mungli! I enjoy all your videos, they are very helpful in supporting my understanding of medicine and being able to apply it to practice. What are your views ons supplements like Ashawanda, Gotu Kola etc for. adrenal support?

  • It’s Christmas, I say enjoy the holidays. Fruit platers, veggie platers, there’s a lot of healthy x mas foods you can eat. But why not just enjoy the holidays. It’s once a year.

  • What’s with those sugar calories on your slides? 100 gram is 400 cal., 200 gram is also 400 cal. and 300 grams of glucose is 600 cal.? 😉

  • I was really glad to see the comment that repeated Butter Bob’s communication. He’s right about the division but we CAN NOT let the socialists win.
Now… to comment on this video. I thank you for the data about insulin and resetting with some intermittent fasting. I think that’s going to help my wife. I thank you very much!

  • I think Max loves Ice cream he talks about it in every video haha:D
    Great video again!! Thank you:)
Hope you never stop making these!

  • They’re seriously whining over 5-7 pounds? It kinda belittles people with serious weight issues. If these woman alter weight by that little amount over the course of decades, they don’t have a real problem. They wouldn’t even be considered overweight at the doctor. This perpetuates the attitude women have that a small fluctuation in weight isn’t normaland it is normal. This kind of show just perpetuates the myth that women’s weight doesn’t normally fluctuate & if it does, there’s something wrong with her

  • Brilliant Videos, I love that there is no BS and it’s common sense based with no Fads! can you cover off how to manage the extra excercise calories burnt? I presume you need to eat these back in order to stay above the base caloric deficit? sometimes this is hard to manage/monitor. thanks again love it!!

  • Low carb high fat diet is the best.
You are all wrong. Never count calories count carbs. This show needs a remake.
Drop the wheat sugar rice and you will be slim in one month.

  • Its nice that this show is trying to bring awareness about nutrition but I don’t like that they are promoting a crash diet where u eat very few calories for 14 days just because you have to hit the target within a very short time.. plus they only put emphasis on the calories number without talking about the difference in food quality. Some high caloric foods are actually very healthy while some very shitty processed food are low in calories. Just because some foods are low cal it doesn’t make them healthy

  • Sir i really appreciate all your videos in which you talk about fat loss and building a good physique. My question to you is how to maintain our physique after a pretty good amount of fat loss?

  • I have also followed Butter Bob Briggs….And then he disappeared.
This is what I found on his Facebook timeline..

“Thanks everyone. I’m really feeling the love today and I appreciate it very much.

BTW, I’m alive and physically well, but just had to take a step back from social media.

It is almost impossible to maintain a positive attitude if you spend a lot of time online these days. But, maybe instead of turning off the negative, I should fight the dark, by turning on more lights.

The song I posted today is an example of turning on the light. Three very nice people, I don’t know and probably will never meet in this life got together and did something nice for me.

Arguing diets, arguing politics or religion or any other controversial topic divides people even more than they already are and believe me, people are divided right now, worse than I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. Division is darkness, it just is.

We can turn on a light, we can unite people instead of divide them, with a simple kind word, or a small selfless act of charity. Simple acts of kindness are a powerful way to light up our world, one little candle at a time.

I hope every single person on this page will find something nice or uplifting to post on their own Facebook page today.” Butter Bob Briggs

  • Guys I don’t know why you all still want to bash things like keto and carnivore etc, but as he said, he wants to make sure most of the loss is coming from fat, keto does all that, the carnivore diet does all that, how hard is it to understand and also
Keto, carnivore diet does promote more energy and muscle gain, do it in a cyclic approach if you want but after beating like this for the last 3 years I can never go back to a high carb approach, you cycle carbs in when and if required which isn’t that often at all, hey and I was a big carb fan,
This is just so much better, don’t know why people still bash it, guess some people really are stuck in their ways
