  • Hi Dr Maggs, could you please dispel some conflicting information. I have been told by a dr friend that consumption of fat as the highest percentage of your diet does not make sense as the body will need to burn/consume this before it uses stored body fat. Therefore, those fat calories are competing and preventing weight loss. Another friend claims that the body uses the reserves first and that the calories ingested as fat are not converted into stored body fat if there is an excess. Which of these is correct? If it is the latter, how is this chemically possible? Love your videos. 😉

  • I have been Intermittent Fasting for a couple of years typically on a 19:5 or 20:4 fast to feast ratio. I love the life style and It really makes a difference in my insulin levels. But with insulin resistance sometimes our insulin levels don’t always drop to the level that non-insulin resistant people’s level do during the fasting period.   • Khan, great video although I’d say one thing I think what the “dead weight loss” means is really important and perhaps glossed over. I think that the conventional view is that a tax is just money that would have gone to the company going to the government instead. But it’s worse than that the dead weight loss is actually wealth that could have been created which is instead just vaporized. So the net wealth of the whole system is deteriorated, not just reallocated… you know what I mean.

    Okay so when I first started listening this, I did lose about a kilogram or 2. This became my periodical routine.

    A few moments, (it is 3.12 am), I was in a dream state and this subliminal was playing and some grimly-looking was holding my left arm saying “you can control your weight, you are now in charge if your body, you will lose weight” and I freaking got terrified.   • For me, the desire to cut down the carbs came completely naturally once I realized that a sandwich as a snack makes me even more hungry before lunch than if I wouldn’t eat anything. Since then, I started to notice my body’s reactions to food high in carbs, and I am trying to avoid it, cause that hyperglycemia I used to get was really horrible..   • Guys, losing weight does not need to be difficult (I used to think it did). I’ll give you some advice right now. Search a diet plan known as Custokebon Secrets. Seriously, that diet plan has transformed my entire life. I probably shouldn’t even be mentioning it cause I don’t want a bunch of other folks out there running the same “game” but whatever, I am just in a great mood today so I’ll share the wealth haha.

  • I’ve been doing very well on a low carb/low calorie diet. I’ve heard that high insulin and high blood sugar causes fat storage (assuming you are not running a marathon). The plant based diet people claim that their high carb diet works fine as long as you have no fat or protein which might cause high insulin. I assume that high carb food always cause high blood sugar. Are their high carb plant foods that cause high blood sugar but don’t cause high insulin? No way am I going to try to find them.

  • Before I used to get hungry at around 11:00am if I take breakfast also with 3 meals a day pattern and snacks in evening. I m doing intermittent fasting for few days. I still eat lunch with rice and in evening I only take fat and proteinat around 7pm.I don’t feel hungry till 12-1:00pm next day and that also without help of bullet proof coffee. And I lost around 2kg in one month. I don’t want do vigorously so taking time to do full low carbohydrates as rice is our staple diet.

  • How to lose weight sure is calories in vs calories out. However losing fat is a bit different and I think peoples goal isn’t to lose weight its to lose fat. To lose weight you need to drop insulin and you want to use up the glycogen stores. Then your body has used up its quick energy so then it uses ketons as its energy next which is fat cells. When your body starts running on this ketons its when you cause yourself to lose fat cells cause they’re being used. Fat loss is simple its just that nobody does the work.

There are a few reasons for that including changing metabolic rate, changing muscle mass (if you don’t lift weights while doing weight loss), and the psychology surrounding exercise (doing exercise, especially aerobic, actually makes your body overcompensate and make you hungrier than required). Some people also believe that your body reaches certain set points where it resists further weight loss, though we still need to test this scientifically and confirm the mechanism. Nevertheless, it’s clear that in many ways our bodies are evolutionarily conditioned to resist weight loss, which makes it a real challenge, where as the calories in, calories out model suggests both directions are equally easy.

  • You can eat loads of carbs and lose weight it’s all about one thing to make sure the calories intake is less than the output needed. Best to make sure the difference is small not huge. You want to lose about 1lb or 2lb a week.

My current weight was 15st 8.5lbs and now it’s 14st 5lbs (sorry but i’m old school). I am 49 years old and my height is 5ft 11inches.   • Let me explain why our subconscious is stronger than being consciously aware. Only 10% of our daily decisions are consciously. 90% are subconscious decisions based on neural connections we have built up over years.   • What you’re missing is that this is just a model. Sure there’s economies of scale but you’re not taking into account marginal benefits. As you get closer to full capacity and over your workers might get in each other way. Eventually it would be better to increase capacity by getting new land and more workers, but they might have a better marginal benefit else where in society.

  • If you’re overweight, then I suggest starting with a keto diet first. Basically fatty meat with veges, as much as you want to get your body habituated to burning fat as a fuel source. If you want to lose excess weight (fat), then you have to train your metabolism to get used to burning fat. No sugar, no bread, no noodles, no carbs AT ALL. Carbs have an interesting metabolic effect since if it’s not used soon, then it get stored as fat.

    Make sure you’re eating enough salt, potassium and magnesium in the diet: critical. All available as supplements. After 2 weeks on the keto diet, you’ll notice that your appetite has diminished and your cravings for random food goes down to zero. Next step is intermittent fasting so have your last meal at 6 pm. Don’t eat until the next day @ 10 am.

    Keep on doing this for a week, then have your first meal at 12 noon (so 18 hours with no food). Just a regular keto meal, enough to make you feel full. 1 week (or 2 weeks) later, have your first meal @ 2 pm. Only eat at 6 if you’re hungry.

    When you’re ready, eat only 1 meal @ 1 pm. Now you’re on the OMAD (one-meal-a-day) fasting routine.
    Record how you feel, energy levels, cravings, sleep quality.

    Then attempt a 48 hour fast, and finally a 5 day fast. BUT! You MUST drink lots of water with potassium, magnesium and salt throughout the fast. Usually the first day is easy but day 2 and day 3 can be really tough. If you don’t feel good at any stage, then go back to OMAD fasting. Fasting is not unhealthy if you do it right think about it: our ancestors didn’t have access to supermarkets/refrigeration and going without food for days was not unusual.

  • I agree that high carb is a spiral problem because the more carbs you eat the more you desire to eat. Very true. It also causes cravings that do not happen in the lo-carb environment. Great video and discussion of this subject. BUT lo-carb is one issue, but what restrictions should one place on the other macro-nutrients (fat & protein). I believe I have read that lo-carb PLUS calorie management is the best combo. But there is very little discussion once one embraces lo-carb (or KETO) on what the remainder of the diet should look like; some say eat all you want of fatty foods and others are less “over the top” on that issue. Where is truth? I KNOW that carbs cause insulin rushes that cause me to crash…but how much of the other two categories should I consume?

And for those that say they gain weight fast is most likely cause you were that same weight before, lost it, then gained it again.. Once you lose weight, if you gain it right back then your fat cells become more resistant to leaving so that’s why lifestyle modifications and real changes over time will yield the best results versus you committing to weight loss for 1 month to lose weight that’s mostly water only to gain it all again and have it harder to lose that same weight the second time around… Big dummies

    I never have motivation to eat less or work out but since I started listening to this meditation since november 2019 I lost 9 kilograms in 4 months.   • After listening to this one night, the next day I attempted to eat a pie and chocolate but both was absolutely tasteless to the point I just gave it away. Instead had some fruit and veg which was really tasty. So I plan to listen again tonight.

I have lost 20 pounds in 3 months and I am not starving myself. Slow and steady is how you lose weight and get in better shape. If you are not losing weight, you are not achieving a 3500 deficit. I saw one youtube presentation with charts, formulas, large scientific words, arrows and lines etc. This is just a smoke screen. Just do the simple steps I have mentioned. I went from 225 to 205 and now my goal is 200. The abs are poking through. Yeah baby!!!!!!

  • Way to go! This morning I stepped on the scale and saw a number I didn’t like…the heaviest I’ve ever been and started to dwell on my new healthy eating habits starting this upcoming Monday.     This will be easy to understand.

    1: Do not eat between lunches, make sure you eat enough during breakfast and dinners so you won’t starve between all of them.
    2:
    Do not eat too fast. Make sure you eat at a normal rate.
    3: Avoid cakes, juices (except natural apple juice), soda’s, salty chips, salty buttered popcorn, ice creams and all sort of alcohol.
    4: AVOID ALL SORTS OF RESTAURANTS EXCEPT PIZZA’S. Pizza’s aren’t evil for your body, mind and soul.
    5: Make your own food at home. If you eat all sorts of meat, keep going. Your body is used to eat a nice piece of meat.
    6: DRINK WATER BUT NOT TOO MUCH. Like heck, drink water only when your body give you the signal that your are thirsty.
