  • Calorie counting is a myth. I’ve cut all carbs out of my diet except for a potato and a banana a day. I eat 5000 plus calories a day and my weight has fallen off effortlessly. I’ve even been less active due to an injury. The type of food is definitely more important than the total calories. I feel like carb restriction is achievable long term because you can still eat until you’re full and not feel hungry all the time. Carbs make you feel hungry. I even notice my man boobs have fallen off a lifetime of struggle with exercise and diet and I’ve always had a little bit of saggy fat on my chest. I feel like carbs raise my estrogen or something.

  • I wish I saw this earlier! I experienced many of these mistakes. My biggest mistake on number one was the neck angle. The straight edge test showed that my bridge was way too low. My pride prevented me starting off with a kit, but I see the wisdom in that now. Also, I used walnut for the neck which was way too figured for “edged” shaping, and very resistant to truss rod action.

    You should definitely open a restaurant IF you’re independently wealthy and can absorb sinking hundreds of thousands of dollars (or millions) into your restaurant while making any money for a year or more without feeling any financial strain.

    enzymes are a subclass of proteins each enzyme is a protein but a protein is not necesserily an enzyme.
    enzymes catalyze chemical reactions, among which there is a breaking down of proteins to smaller species (amino acids) and then converting them into the energy.
    proteins that are supplied with food are mostly forming muscles of an animal. their function is being basically a building block that facilitates movement and stabilization for the whole animal.

    if he was wrong on this, he could be pretty much wrong on anything else. please note that he sometimes mentions scientific literature but usually does not. and yet, even if he mentions it, never provides specifics (where was the study published, who was the author, etc.).

  • I disagree with some of these just due to personal experiences. Eating my smallest meal which is little in carb has the best results for me to lose weight. Not just short term but long term too. I also almost always have a calorie deficit every day lacking around 500 calories and I still have fat on me. I’m barely fat at all but just out of reach for a six pack:(

  • Sorry mate your mistake #1 to me is anathema, I use entirely reclaimed woods and have had no issues at all, old furniture window frames door stiles. It’s generally super dry and stable. And cheap.

    I started right in doing the 16:8 routine two weeks ago (10am-6pm) in combination with low carbs. I prepare meals the night before and take them to office. Also doing 4km walks at lunch time and various 10-15min HIIT exercise routines in the morning and 15min stair climbing some evenings. Amazed at the improvements. 10lbs lost so far and ready to move from size 40 to 38, relying on suspenders at the moment.:-) Even my blood pressure is improving, 111/75 this morning good after doing exercises. I’ve gotten past the evening snack cravings that came with watching TV/YouTube. After two weeks, I think I can keep this routine going. The will power will be tested when visiting my parents soon and Mom’s home cooking.

  • Dr Pls pls reply. I am 50yr old. In perfect shape and health. I was never fat or obese. I was eating everything and anything I wanted without any wt issues. Now my problem is this that my blood sugar spikes upto 180 to 200 after my regular meals but my fasting is mostly below 100. To overcome the spikes I shifted to a low carb diet but I am already slim and by eating low carb diet I started to quickly loose wt. I don’t need to loose wt. From the last thirty years my wt gain was maximum 8pounds and then back. I want control my blood sugar spikes but don’t want to loose wt as I am already thin. Kindly advise

Sometimes we kinda let our ego’s get in the way and when you start thinking you have to do every little step yourself to feel good about your accomplishment, that’s the ego taking over. If I had to build my first guitar again, I’d go with a kit.

  • Your advice is bang-on, and you spent just the right balance of time between being thorough and droning on. My list would include #15: “Just Breathe.” There’s a time to step back and “regroup,” and it’s not all about mental bandwidth. Case in point: I’m in the middle of a build with cedar/figured walnut, and the workshop humidity won’t drop below 70%. So…I breathe. I’m mentally ready to keep going, but the wood/RH isn’t.     For me glue jobs get me very anxious
    Even after a dry run (sometimes doing more times than what I need to)
    knowing I have only so much time to get everything clamped up “perfectly” makes me panic a little
    So definitely next guitar I need to relax and not panic

  • I do 20/4 And i don’t make a habit of avoiding carbs. Your brain in particular needs carbs. I have lost 11-lbs in 3 weeks and i am only 9lbs away from my goal weight eating carbs and all.

  • I love breaking my fast with Acv lemon water if I have it on hand.

    And better yet a heaping cup of frozen veggies (carrot, cauliflower,& broccoli) with a cup of frozen fruit (Mango, pineapple, banana, etc) blended with flax seeds and chia seeds. No added sugar besides a squish of low glycemic blue agave Amber raw and im good. Sometimes I might splash a little bit of organic maple syrup into it instead of blue agave.

  • Eating highly processed carbs makes me crave them. I avoid them as much as possible. I never weigh myself, I use the mirror and belt holes to monitor my progress on a 16:8 fast along with a low carb lifestyle. I had to make to 3 holes in my belt so far.

  • I jumped straight into 16:8 and it took around 3 months for my body to fully adjust. First 4 weeks was very hard and I really struggled but I was determined and pushed through. Have upgraded to 20:4 and been doing it for 12 months and the difference going from 16:8 to 20:4 is phenomenal. I have found I now naturally eat better, my body craves healthy foods. Try it, it will change your life for the better.

  • Not tracking your calories

  • I started with just skipping breakfast because I grew up not eating breakfast, so that was easier for me. But I started with 14-15 hrs only and then gradually increased it to 16-20 hrs. I now do three days of complete 18 hrs of fasting because on other 4 days I do have coffee with cream and a little sugar.

  • I did low carb 100g for a month always felt unwell. So just doing 24hour fasts twice a week and 16:8 on a few days and eating normally on rest. Enjoying my potatoes and bit of rye bread at breakfast and rest is healthy fats and veg. This works for me.

  • I weigh 136kg and is 1.76cm and I’m 21 years old. I’m gonna start the gym next week and my plan is training Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. My diet plan is Trying the whey protein shakes and lime water for two weeks and eating chicken with vegs to spice it up. I don’t really know what I will be training on what day, but my plan is, Cardio on Mondays, legs on Wednesdays, Arms on Fridays and then Cardio on Sunday. I have never ever worked out before, and I rarely ever move on a daily basis. And I drink too much soda but I will cut that off.   • It’s impossible to stay in a deficit anyway, for instance you’ve just bulked and your ready to cut. (This is just an example) You figure out your maintenence is 2700 calories per day, you decide to eat at a deficit of 300 calories per day, taking your daily calorie intake to 2 400 calories per day. Now, if you eat these 2400 calories a day for long enough, eventually once you have lost some mass (just general weight) these 2400 calories a day, which was initially a 300 calorie deficit would become your daily maintenence.

  • You can however eat as much fruits and veggies as you like. There is a study funded by Bill Gates where there are two groups of people who ate 20 servings of fruit and the other no more than 3-5. For the people who ate 20 servings, nothing bad happened except for using the restroom more frequently. However, there were some side effects of not consuming enough fruit for the second group.

  • Great advice, but you could probably just start and end with #4 ��. Biting off more than you can chew applies to trying to use either non-guitar woods or high-figures exotics…buying tools you don’t need, trying to skip a dry run, not knowing how to sharpen edge tools or run power tools, etc. It’s all trying to run before you can crawl and walk. I’m a pretty expert woodworker (using tools 40+ years most of it professionally) but I’m still a noob with luthiery many years in.   • I disagree with step one. If you are doling blue ocean menu items (aka, a menu that doesn’t exist in your area) people will respond, especially if the items are delicious, varied and satisfying.

    However, you can test your menu before you start by going gray market catering and setting up a few tables in a pop up with a mobile kitchen.

    “Listening” to people will not work well, as most people have no idea what they actually want, until they taste it.

  • The place that I’m working now just changed management.. But we the staffs are a bit stress with the owner.. it seems like he doesn’t know what he is doing.. every single thing he will asked for a discussion…I feel like what is not my task or job becomes my job..If ever one of us tell the owner about anything he always say ” Now U give me a problem, what is the solution”.   • I have read that most toothpastes use a very powerful artificial sugar. I have also read that insulin is secreted once food enters the mouth. Therefore it begs the question, Can toothpaste break your fast even though it is not swallowed?

  • When I stopped breaking down my nutrition to such an exact science I began to lose fat. When I stopped analyzing my workouts to death I experienced greater gains. The information/science on nutrition, repetitions, volume, intensity and rest periods is always changing and there are too many different theories out there. Once I developed a good understanding of nutrition and fitness I just started working out and eating healthy without dissecting everything. If you aren’t managing your stress levels then diet won’t make the significant difference that it should. Cortisol is very real and trumps everything. Focus on getting stronger and being healthy, not on what you look like in the mirror. A true six pack of abs is very difficult to maintain if you are not somebody who makes their living off nutrition and exercise. Focus on lowering your blood pressure, resting heart rate, cholesterol and blood sugar. Strive to burn fat as opposed to losing weight. Good videos, I just personally take them with a grain of salt since I can get caught up in overthinking things. But that’s just me and my neurosis. LOL

  • I totally agree. Proprietors fail because they do not know who to feed. Identifying the target market is crucial in any business. It goes with restaurants too. it determines what kind of dishes you will serve, the concept, arrangement of tables and chairs, even the lighting, etc. To paraphrase Dale Carnegie, ” When you go fishing don’t bring chocolate that you like most. Bring with you worm because that’s what fish like.” The focus is on CUSTOMERS.

  • As an exercise physiologist specializing in sports nutrition I would recommend dropping the Tilapia it’s a very dirty fish! Wild caught salmon would be a better choice. Also, macadamia nut oil is very good. Two to three tablespoons per day will do the body good. Olive oil can be added in as well for added health benefits. Great video!

  • You should know at this point, knowing that you have a channel and you tries to help people, that tilapia is one of the worst fish for human consumption due to its amounts of mercurium, similar to the swordfish.
    Also, to eat starch foods like sweet potatoes etc after 6pm is very bad for our stomach as it makes the digestion thicker,

  • I would be interested in hearing your opinion regarding 6 meals a day. As I recently learned, (and it seems to work for me again probably subjective per individual), but the more you eat throughout the day, the more you spike your insulin. Granted it is needed for digestion, delivers energy to our cells but it is also the fat storing hormone. The body can only lose fat when glucagon is present. As I understand it, glucagon can only be present with a lack of Insulin resulting keeping fat lower in the body. As insulin lowers, the pancreas activates glucagon, the fat burning hormone. The leaner the muscle tissue, the higher your metabolism. For me, 6 meals a day spikes my insulin and leaves glucagon low or non existent. Again, going back to 3 satiating meals a day has been more beneficial for me personally. I noticed better metabolism and better gains (leaner). I used to have what I called fat muscle, but now my veins and muscle definition are showing through.

  • DO NOT eat flaxseeds, they’re TESTOSTERONE SUPPRESSORS and will fuck with your hormones. There’s already a thousand comments so this will get buried but whatever

  • Flax seeds: the omega-3 in flax is ALA. There’s no DHA or EPA in flax (at least, nothing significant), and conversion of ALA into these fatty acids is very low yield (IIRC, about 1%). Yes, it’s still a good food, and ALA is at least something for n3 intake, but it’s not a good source of important n3s. Fatty fish is still king here; certain algae products also, if you don’t eat fish for some reason.

    How do I know how many calories are in a food after cooking it?

    Just an example: let’s say I make a burger and melt some cheese on the top of it, I know how many calories are in the cheese raw, but how do i know the amount that it has after melted?

  • I don’t normally comment on videos but I have to say great job on this. I have not built a guitar (yet) but have been in woodworking for over 20 years as a hobby and have built paddleboards and boats from wood. I think all of these principles are excellent for any woodworking project including a guitar. As with any woodworking project, it takes a lot of planning with the following steps in mind. There is a certain process. If you are in a hurry or just trying to get to the end, you are not going to be happy with the final product. A lot of good points brought up here! Lastly, if you have never worked with a sharp hand tool, it is smooth and sweet! I would prefer that to power tools for any fine tuned application any day and, yes, it is a whole other aspect of woodworking (keeping your chisels and planes tuned, that is). Again, great job on the video!

  • Great video. I wish I knew all of these 14 items 14 guitars ago. Best tip for beginners is to start with a kit. Second best is to purchase tools as you build. You should expect to spend as much on tools as you spent on the kit. Finally, be aware that finishing is a whole other skill that you will need to learn. But it’s all worth it. It’s addictive.

  • about your last point: I was (…ok I still am) a perfectionist but when it came to building the guitar for my journeyman’s examination, I had so little time, that I came up with my 85% rule/target (sorry my englisch is not the best). Let me try to explain my theory:). 85% is a “degree of perfectionism” that you can achieve in a reasonable amount of time. The amount of time you have to spend, to achieve every single percentage after that rises (I exaggerate a little bit) exponentially. 85% ist plenty good for most people and still is a good representation of your workmanship. With this target you get (so to speak), “the best bang for the buck”. I managed to finish in time, and even though I had very strict teachers I finished with top grade. I like to be an perfectionist and to take my time, but sadly I can’t always afford to do so. Nice Video!

  • #14 too true, some say players can make bad builders, they start with a plan, maybe a good plan, then they keep thinking of extra things they’ll want when they play it so they take it apart, add something, think of something else, take the project apart again… the instrument rarely makes it to completion!

I‘ve been contemplating building a guitar for 7 years or so, but I have been easily overwhelmed by the amount of specialized tools and amount of time I would need. Finally decided to take the first step. I am going to get my feet wet on a small scale by building a ukelele from a StewMac kit. I will then move on to a guitar kit after that and just keep adding new skills as I progress, the way you said you did it.   • I bought a chisel for my first guitar build, and MY GOD, it looked like they chipped bricks with it. I’ve spent two hours sharpening it with a regular hand stone, and it turned out, it wasn’t even heat treated, edge was ruined just afer adjusting a truss rod channel after router..

I would also recommend to anyone interested in building that they search the various books on Luthiery, such as the Sloane, Cumpiano, Overholtzer(take some of Art’s suggestions w/ a grain of salt), Williams (Charles Fox covered a lot of same techniques in his Guitarbuilding course when he was in Vermont) books & Roy Courtnall’s “Making Master Guitars”. There’s one more book that isn’t actually related to the craft but I might suggest that it might be more important than the other books. The book is titled “Understanding Wood”.( A Piano Rebuilding ex acquaintance of mine borrowed it, so I’m unable to recall the author’s name

Building my first guitar,cut away version, 5 sides later I finally did get the cutaway side successfully,2 paduk,2 fiddleback maple & 1 walnut, My biggest problem is overconfidence as I am a curved stair builder/railing installer, different trade, different set of skills, Radiuses I deal with are much bigger or cut from laminated blocks either way,I am now subscribed

  • Great information! Too bad more people don’t listen to you. I haven’t eaten break the fast for many many years. i also exercise fasted in the am. I stay fit and lean. There is research supporting that eating in an 8 hour window versus the same number of calories over 24 hours leads to weight loss. I also do IF (20/4). Also eating more frequently makes it easier to under estimate how much you have actually eaten.

  • Hello. I was considering trying to build an acoustic guitar. I would like to know if I can use cedar and mahogany together since it’s the most common wood where I am from. There is mahogany, cedar, rosewood (dont know which type), samwood(also called laurel here), cabbage bark (a type of very hard wood here, sometimes they have ebony, bullet tree and hardwood or atleast that’s the local name here), as some of the few woods I know are sold here. Can I have any advice which to use???

  • I am just now starting to build acoustic guitars. I’ve spent about 5 years building electrics. I would highly recommend that if you want to build guitars, start with electrics. It really gives you a ton of experience that you can then transfer to acoustic.
    You can make a ton of mistakes with electrics that can be be fixed fairly easily.

  • Most of the diet tips are pretty solid. Except the Breakfast bs, eating early made me gain 6 pounds in like 3 days just from inflammation

  • bakery cafe I work at they have Constant rehiring every day because they are not respected and not having a happy environment.they hire college kids and I hear them say how stressed they feel coming in to work. And im step higher then then but no much in management and I try to us positive environment.And with other MG they hate working with them and scared shitless of the owners and I’m also kind of scared of them too.

  • What about oak? I know it is heavy and it is harder to work with than other woods. Still, it is stable. I have a bunch of oak boards and I want to try to build a solid body guitar. What do you think?

  • I reclaimed some spruce from a remodel on a 100yr old house here in Texas. The grain was so close Ive yet to order bracewood as nice as it. They were 2x4s and quartersawn but these were real 2x4s not 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 like they sell nowadays. I used them as back braces and later top braces. Those guitars are still super stable and thats been over 8yrs. Sometimes one just hits the jackpot.

  • My dad cut down some wide Mesquite logs around 15 yrs ago. It was so beautiful I cut some 4/4 board out of it quartersawn. It sat in my dads shop for 5yrs were he has a woodburning stove. I then resawed it and build a bajosexto( basically a baritone Mexican 12 string guitar). That was 10 yrs ago and that guitar has the best sound of any bajosexto Ive ever played. Its straight as an arrow and super stable. Wish I could get my hands on more Texas Mesquite wide enough without cracks to start drying.
