  • I find that focusing on a mind muscle connection in my glutes helps my strength in the squat and deadlift. Also helps with any compound pulling movement. As far as bench and any upper body push movement is concerned, there is no difference.

  • I didn’t realize you follow the “eat frequently” method, I’d be interested to know what you have to say on intermittent fasting. I’ve been trying it for the past few weeks after spending a lot of time researching the science of it and to me it seems like it almost makes the “eat frequently” point a little redundant? Each to their own and I 100% believe both work and that people need to experiment and find what works for their lifestyle and preferences because that’s a HUGELY significant factor, but I’d like to know your take on it, either by experience or the science behind it.

  • What about those of us that are a combination, my legs and arms are long and lanky but I have lots of belly and back fat. In my 20’s I had a models body type, now I look pregnant in my 50’s with the same long skinny legs.

  • I believe men’s hormones also oscillate throughout the month based on the women’s cycle. Just something I’ve noticed. If I’m ovulating my husband testosterone seems higher because his face becomes more masculine, and it’s the opposite on my period. It’s very interesting.

  • Correction not having great genetics requires you to train less not more due to weak recovery ability. As a natty hardgainer I train with weights once every 7-10 days, training “day-in day-out” would kill progress immediately.

  • Portion size works for me. I love food and am a small frame, I put on 10 lb. and now I look pregnant. I’m 49. I used to go for walks at night with my daughter. I am now in a new relationship and go from sitting at work driving to my boyfriend’s house, nap maybe, then go to eat out. But I like getting out. Maybe it can change but I don’t want it to right now.

  • Skipping breakfast is more than just reducing calories…it extends your fast and will keep insulin levels low and fat burning is not paused due to jacked up insulin levels from eating or worse, eating sugary cereals or crap. After I drink coffee, I feel better and can keep the fast (restricted eating period) going until early afternoon. So not eating.. will help stabilize appetite and swings in appetite ( as well as maybe kicking in autophagy if you go without eating long enough)…because you arent messing with the appetite hormones…until you are really truly hungry again. Also, if u eat sugary stuff, prepare for increased hunger, no fat burning for a while and also fat storage.

    As a chef blanching (30-60 sec boil in salt water) helps preserve the nutrients since the salt water creates a barrier around the vegetable allowing the nutrients to remain within.

  • I’ve gained a lot of weight from my birth control pill in the last 6 months. I am very uncomfortable with my body right now. I’ve been lucky in my life because I’ve always been very consistent with a healthy weight where I felt very good about my body. Now I just don’t know what to do. I haven’t had to worry about this before to be quite honest. I am going to my gynecologist next week to discuss a different birth control option that will hopefully not continue the weight gain issue. Anyone have any advice about what works/doesn’t work with not gaining weight on birth control? I have a long term boyfriend and I’m sexually active and uncomfortable with not being on a form of bc. And diet wise I am vegetarian and honestly eating healthier than I have in the past (when I didn’t have weight issues). I am doing a lot better with portion control and cutting out processed foods. I need to work on less dairy for sure though. As for exercise I am lacking. I work in an animal shelter and I end up getting so sore and tired from work that I have no desire to exercise. I also have a chronic pain condition that affects my knee function and I can’t do some exercises for too long without extreme discomfort. I feel like I’m making excuses for myself though. I don’t know I just need advise.

  • One thing about water intake and health. I get kidney stones. My urologist wants me urinating 2.5 liters a day. That’s a huge intake to b able to pee out that much.

  • Caffeine is a diuretic. By definition, it increases urine outtake. You can even experiment this yourself. Try just a cup of water, about an hour after waking up vs. just a cup of coffee, about an hour after waking up. I went to the source in the article and the study was in 2000, with just 18 subjects. This is a severely small sample size and the abstract even ends with “Further research is needed to confirm these results.” I love your videos but the thing about caffeine is simply wrong.

  • Not sure what stuff was studied for the detox diet.

    A while back I did a 60 day juice diet. All fresh juiced every day. 1500 calories. Mostly vegetables. I drank a gallon of juice a day. I think my benefits are most likely due to the fact that I was taking in way more micro nutrients than you could ever possibly do eating solid food. Unless you can eat enough veggies in a day to fill a third of a fridge.

    I lost 1lb per day for 60 days. Didn’t gain any of it back (for a long time). And cured my hypertension. I was 160 over 120, at the end I was 120 over 80. Years after the diet I did put the weight back on because I started drinking a lot, eating like shit, and quit exercising. But the hypertension never came back thankfully.

    I know it’s anecdotal. But I really think there’s something to a properly done juice diet. As well as other forms of fasting. Like water fasting and intermittent fasting.

    From the research I’ve done I can’t find a whole lot of good data on the subject. So maybe it just hasn’t been studied deep enough yet. But I do think there’s something to it. And I’ve seen many cases of people getting great health benefits doing it.

    I’m also confident there are a lot of bs fad detox diets out there too. Or garbage products that people sell. Maybe that gives it a bad name.

  • Think about it like this. In a world where there really was no problem with milk, wouldn’t the dairy companies have just as much incentive to pay for the studies that say such a thing? They would still need to do it. How do you know this isn’t that world?

  • I love your videos and you come across as positive, informed and sober in your analysis. I did want to weigh in on the “coffee” thing. As a trainer and athlete who LOVES coffee, I really do have to have that glass of water instead sometimes, or i feel like I’m pushing myself in the red-as in, it feels like the acid in my body has built up too much. I think if you only ever substituted coffee for water, one might get f’d up pretty well. Cheers.

  • The studies Ive heard referenced concerning targeted weight loss concluded that fat gets deposited in a certain order and comes off in reverse order. The differences are between people, not routines. Given that study you showed had a small sample, it wouldn’t be surprising if they had just had people who lost weight in their legs first.

    Also, HIIT wouldn’t work so well if targeted fat loss was possible since it relies on the idea of fat being released into the bloodstream at one intensity and burned in another.

    It also doesn’t make sense to say that the far is released from a far cell and is picked up immediately by the cells around it to use as fuel. If that were the case, we would see fat loss in patterns related to blood perfusion.

  • Ok I had to watch this twice to be sure, and now I’m positive you are making an unfair comparison here.

    You start this video of by presenting this view from the fitness world: “calories in calories out, energy balance, that’s what weightloss is about”. This view is not true you say and out come studies that go to show other schools of thought (time restricted feeding in this case) have many health benefits.

    But this has no bearing on the claim that weightloss is (or is not) a matter of energy balance, and the energybalancecamp need to only have one response: “all those factors (sleep, stress, circadian rhythm etc) all influence the calories in calories out equation, but at the end of the week it’s still about an energy balance”. Which isn’t wrong.

    Whether it’s smart not to look beyond that, not to have an exit strategy for the end of a weightloss period, not to think about overall health when making changes to your diet is not a difficult question to answer (ie I think you should think about those things) but the notion of an energy balance in relation to weight is correct.

    And ultimately even the calorie counting camp will agree with all of that because they also say that it doesn’t matter what diet offers you a sustainable way of eating with a period in a calorie deficit, as long as it is sustainable for that individual and offers em that period in a calorie deficit. The example they like to give of an improper diet is a twinky diet that can have the calorie deficit but not the sustainability.

    And when it comes to timerestricted feeding they will say it is not the time restriction that makes you loose weight, it is all those positive factors that make it easy (for many people) to maintain a calorie deficit, which in turn leads to weightloss.

    I really don’t see how you can argue against any of the above.

    But yeh, calories in calories out; stripped to just the equation it’s a very hollow principle for those that want a holistic picture of nutrition, health and fitness.

I have a higher protein, lower carb diet (with lots of water-logged veggies) and protein fills me up so much it’s really uncomfortable to try to get up to maint lvl. Usually by a whole meal’s worth (deficit 500cal) as a result, I’m often tired as you said. I have a moderately active life style and don’t workout.

  • I fast daily which helps me enjoy food. The bro diet counting Marco’s through day messes up my relationship with food. Not saying you dont count Marco’s fasting but you have more options then spreading it out throughout day.

  • I feel like I’m a meso-endo. I’m more sporty than a full endo, but too soft to be a full meso. I’m pretty carb tolerant and respond quickly to exercise but I still have that extra fat layer that won’t come off. It’s really frustrating to be stuck in the middle of these two types. I also don’t feel inclined to follow the “endo diet” because I don’t like eating meat. D:

    1. You’ve got to be a possibility thinker PMA, positive mental attitude

    2. Associate with positive people and supportive people. Have a sense of humor

    3. Educate yourself on a diet, eating right, lifestyle changes find what works for you and that comes from self-education

    4. Avoid the scam claims (ex. 12 stretches you can do to burn fat, how to lose weight in 5 minutes)

    5. Stop going out to eat it’s an expensive way to get fat. Prepare food for the whole week so you eat healthy for the whole week.

    6. Do not go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. If you’ve brought it home, the battle’s already lost hard to have willpower day after day, especially at the end of the day.

    7. Exercise. Be active: go for a walk, work in the garden, do house chores

  • Regarding the milk study, it has already found that milk contains high amount of hormones,fat and puss. The study you refer to might consider almost a million people, i found suggest you look up the study that was done in china over millions of people, which showed that increased daily intake of animal proteins lead to more cancer. The problem with the study was done on milk it only counts for several years at the most. Most of the effects of our nutrient is over years. So every study which make claims after just a couple of months or weeks is simply way to soon about their conclusion. This count for as well animal proponents as plant proponents. Just stating that a study heavily funded by the dairy industry will not be biased is just stating i am a religious person but will not be biased against someone without a religion. We all carry bias in our selves, and it has been shown time after time that studies funded by food industry is heavily favoring them as being healthy. I not for vilifying a certain food group. Our ancestors lived for centuries on that food. That said, i think you should eat everything in moderation.

  • When mom & dad would come to spaghetti dinner every Sunday we would have a hot loaf of french bread with butter. After dinner the remaining leftover bread went out the back door and uncovered into the dumpster. No way or desire or ability to retreive it from the dumpster.
    In my home there is NO: cookies, candy, ice cream, cake, pie, soda, chips, pretzels, frosting, sugar, flour.
    If l desire something sweet, l must get up and either drive or walk to the appropriate satanic store to the specific item l think l need.. Most of the time its just NOT worth the effort, especially if attired in my PJs.

  • Fasting has helped me in so many ways. I do Mon Fri 20 hrs fast than eat as “clean” as I can. Sat and Sunday I try to do a 16 hour fast but enjoy eating and drinking. Dropped so much fat while keeping muscle. It sounds hard but I eat around 7pm and as I’m up for work at 4 am I go to bed around 10 pm. This means with sleep and travelling it’s is so easy. It took me around a month to get to this level, starting at going 12 hours without eating and then adding one to two hours until I got to the twenty marks. Hope this helps, good luck to everyone. Just don’t diet that puts you in the mind of it’s not permanent. This is just the way you eat from now on, so it’s the norm.

  • I never understood if the total amount of calories per day to lose x pounds is with or without the calories lost during exercise. For example I need to eat only 1000 calories per day to lose x pounds. And that day I lost 200 calories during exercise.   • I skipped rice and substitute it with Millet and Quinoa. Added few superfoods in my diet. My plate will always be full of vege,fruits and proteins(meat,egg,seafood) and combined with workout(running,jogging,jumping jacks) Lost 15kg in 3 months. Every night bfore bedtime and morning before breakfast I’m having Apple Cider Vinegar with lemon and a dash of cayenne Pepper. That’s it. I’m loving my daily routine now. The result is incredible and I’m shedding off weight on the go…I’m happy that my BMI is in healthy range now. Adding more superfood and healthy foods gives you more vital energy and health. I know I have been surprised in the past when I track my food and suddenly see it’s more than I would expect. I seem to be stuck in maintenance which is fine but I could do with tracking to see where I can make adjustments to get back to somewhere I am a bit more comfortable with.

  • Eating my own made from scratch food. I make my own almond milk, chicken stock, soups, chia seed puddings, overnight oatmeal. I’m in the kitchen all the time. Accepting that as a way of life, to include never ending dirty dishes has worked for me. Seeing a registered dietician has been great. Intuitive eating and being compassionate to myself. Lots of sleep! Water has to happen more:) I have body fat to shed, due mainly to depression and not being able to move easily because of that. Lack of energy kept me down.
