Unfortunately, the dreaded plateau can happen to almost every woman: As you remove weight, your body’s metabolism—the rate at which your body burns calories—often slows down.

A plateau—which I define as an inexplicable pause in weight loss that cannot be traced back to dietary misdemeanors or lifestyle changes—is not an uncommon occurrence.

The pace of weight loss is always erratic, but the definition of a plateau is when you lose nothing—nada—despite doing everything right, over a period of at least four weeks.

Making changes in the number of calories you eat can help you push past a plateau as well (although it doesn’t pay to reduce your calories too sharply, because then the antistarvation defense mechanism will kick in and slow your weight loss all over again).

Start off each day, before eating, with ten to thirty minutes of very light activity (such as yoga, walking the dog, or doing yard work), take at least one cold shower each day, visit the sauna at least once per week, avoid non-nutrient-dense carbohydrates, and be as active as possible all day long.

  • Definitely going to be using these tips fully when breastfeeding is complete!! Keto Diet here i come!!! Until then, I’ll keep enjoying the energy the exogenous ketones give me <3

  • I have the completely opposite problem. I’m struggling to eat enough. Keto has made me only want to eat once a day which is no good cause the most I can get in one meal is 800 calories. Def not enough

  • I didn’t know you could be consuming too many calories on the ketogenic diet. Good point about eating only when hungry! Intermittent fasting seems to be important so more ketones can be produced & used.

  • YES!! So much amazing information! Thank you for addressing intuitive eating and taking in too many calories even if you are eating Keto approved foods so important! I also put the scale away because for the first time I KNOW the numbers will change I don’t have to obsess over them!

  • yas! Im so thankful I broke up with my relationship with the scale a long time ago! It has made all the difference in this journey!

  • Someone chime in with how they broke a plateau while following all of these tips. I’m starting to wonder if my metabolism tanked (happens when you diet).

From 08/01 to 09/15 I dropped from 195 to 172 pounds (that’s 23 lbs in 6 weeks!) Started tracking carbs and macros on day 1. have been under 20 net carbs and often times below 20 carbs TOTAL. Regular intermittent fasting (2-3 times a week generally). Some exercise at least every day (walk German Shepherd) with some weekends having more exercise (kayaking, climbing, biking at gym…). The weight was sliding off so fast that some days it scared me. I have been stuck at 172.2, EXACTLY, for 5 days straight. I should have dropped below 170 already.

  • Yes, Yes about tossing the scale. I use to be obsessed with the scale and that made things just worse for me. Thanks for the intuitive eating book recomendation.

  • Yes!! I Definitely feel best when doing some form of intermittent fasting. I feel like when I’m following keto, I am never hungry lol but if the meal that I eat is high in carbs, I am starving and craving everything for the next 24 hours or at least until I drink more ketones ❤️ I need to look more into the amount of food that I should be eating each day though. Thank you for the great info Katie!!!

  • Oh my gosh yes! So i just got the book intuitive eating! Anxious to start that as well! Fasting has helped me but thank you for the tips on maybe eating more calories

  • Another amazing video from Ms. Katie Rollins!! Love the focus on intuitive eating and changing our mindset about eating. We as a society, in general, have a tendency to overeat and then focus on our weight measurements to indicate our successes or failures. This video crushes those common mistakes made and teaches a better way.

  • When I “slip” into my jeans that non scale victory is just as satisfying as a pound or two down in the scale, because I know my cells have changed!

  • In this video, I share with you the common reasons that you may be experiencing a weight loss stall or plateau while following the Keto Diet!

  • I love intermittent fasting!!! I never thought I would be able to do it! I totally agree that the majority of people eat 3+ meals a day plus multiple snacks so when I started the keto diet I was trying to plan 3 meals and 2 snacks but I wasn’t hungry enough to eat all those!

  • I love this! I’ve been more mindful of when I’m actually hungry vs *its time to eat*. I have been drinking my keto Kreme in the morning and then wont eat for a few hours. I love it. Thank you so much for the video!! I will be sharing with others.

  • Love! Such good reminders. I absolutely hate the scale yet I continue to use it. Measurements are more reliable and key… I need to remember that! And eating when your hungry instead of a schedule

  • Omg I had been a slave to the scale forever! Awesome tips boo! Intermittant fasting is something I’ve been trying to incorporate gradually!

  • Great tips. There are so many health directions to take these days, it’s nice to learn more about listening to your body and eating when you feel hungry rather than traditional timed eating.

  • Intuitive eating has been a game changer! I love not eating based on time but rather how my body feels. It’s also been great to not put pressure on my daughter to eat just to eat. Turns out she’s not a big morning breakfast person but loves a “breakfast” around 9am. It’s cut down on a lot of morning arguments for us, too!

  • I have been doing intermittent fasting for over a month now and I absolutely love it! I still need to focus on intuitive eating rather than my caloric intake that my app gives me. Great video! Planning to share it with many!
