  • Personal experience with intermittent fasting: You lose weight, but you also are crabby all the time. Your mind is in a terrible position because all you can think about is when you can’t have food. Once you do eat you feel great. I lost a lot of fat AND a lot of muscle. I had to stop fasting and weight train to gain all my lost muscle mass back. Over all not worth it. If I could do it again I’d focus on increasing my metabolism in order to burn more calories though out my day so I don’t have to been on a deficiency.

  • I was a type II diabetic. Once I scored an A1C of 7.6. I immediately got a glucometer and eliminated most foods that caused my BS to rise too much. All other A1C’s are 6.2-4. Having started keto I have lost 16 lbs of fat and stopped my metformin. I BS are 5.7-7.0 and typically 6.3-6.5 which are normal (4-7 range is normal). When I do a 24 hr fast on keto, I still eat my body’s fat. My BS are around 6.3. I bike for about 20 min a day at solar noon and get my 20 min of sun in the summer as vit D is also important in losing weight and keeping our immune system at peak performance (vit d 45-60 max 80 recommendedtest to make sure). During winter I will be taking 5 000 IU per day and testing my levels. If you are on insulin, ie a type 1 diabetic you have to be more careful. Keto is NOT IMHO as a nurse recommended for skinny people or once you hit you normal body weight. The best diet for all of us is the one that does NOT increase our blood sugar level. ie too many carbs all at once. I am 70 years old but still need to lose another 30 lbs. I expect my next A1c to be around 5.5-5.8 based on my BS testing. My goal is below 5.5 or normal. I do NOT want to have a fatty liver or other organs.

  • Cancer stages go up as homocysteine increases. some people apply the methionine restriction diet to slow increasing homocysteine but its stupy because the main problem is not methionine intake but increasing homocysteine due to some B vitamin deficencies.(like choline/betaine/folat/b2/b6) because these some Vitamin B’s lower the homocysteine through re-methylation of homocysteine to methionine back.
    so you need to follow strategies how to lower high homocysteine.
    there are a few ways to reduce high homocysteine;
    1sulphuration pathway via vitamin b6 (keep in mind that vitamin b6 is activated by vitamin b2)
    2folat pathway (keep in mind MTFHR gene mutation may be accociated with b2 deficiency)
    3. betaine(trimethylglysine) pathway (betaine has three methyl groups and it succesfully lower high homocystein by helping zinc and b12 but you need some iron also)

  • I was diagnosed with diabetes about 15 years ago. The disease became progressively worse, with increasingly more prescriptions. Things didn’t change until I got away from conventional advice and cut out sugars, starches, grains, and most fruits. Listen to Dr. Fung’s lectures and you will learn that intermittent fasting is the way to beat the slowing metabolism problem of dieters. On low carb and intermittent fasting, I’ve dropped over 40 lbs in 4 months, no longer need insulin. My A1c fell from 8.9 to 5.1.

  • I mean she’s right about that it’s not for everyone and getting the proper nutrients for your body like the old “6 small meals throughout the day plan”. It might not be the best for your body consuming any type of food within your calorie maintenance during your (eating window), but as you continue to lose fat their are lots of health benefits given as a result. Fasting is a very good tool for weight loss, It allows you to eat anything you want in a 4-8 hour eating window, fast 16-20 hours, wake up in the morning and fat is falling off! (If you do it right), it might not be for everyone but everyone has got to at least try it.

  • She should read the studies that have been published about IF. She doesn’t even look healthy. I’m sure she feels the need to eat every hour and believes it is unhealthy to fast for longer than that. I’m currently at 76 hours of my 96 hour fast and feel fine. I’m taking my electrolytes and staying hydrated (only drinking when I’m thirsty). I did 20 hr IF for about 3 weeks prior to this, and then one meal a day (OMAD) for 4 days before starting this fast. I feel great. I highly suggest IF and the occasional longer fast (> 48 hrs) for the health benefits. Cancer can’t thrive in the absence of sugar! I plan on only doing a longer fast like this every 6 months to one year. My last prolonged fast was Dec 2018.
    If you are truly interested in this and have other medical conditions, or take meds, talk with your doctor. If he/she is completely against it, seek a second opinion. Educate yourself on fasting before you go talk to your doctor so you know what questions to ask.

I think you are saying “no more than two cups a day” because you know that most people think they could never stop drinking coffee. You are probably right on all this because probably two (smallish or not too strongish) cups a day wouldn’t cause a lot of grease build-up in the biome.     1. Sugar

  • when i drink a soda, before my meal in the resturant is served, I’m already full and I can’t eat the food so how is it that it makes you want to eat more, maybe much later but i get full on one can of soda so if there is no food, i drink and i love sweets but the soda now adays. i don’t like either coke or pepsi unless it has a flavoring of cherry orange or vanilla or both but without it i don’t know i don’t like either anymore. did they take out the sugar? or the fructose?   • Saturated fat is not bad for you. Trans fat, too much omega 6, processed starch, and sugars are bad for you. Even fully hydrogenated oils which aren’t trans fats are still bad for you. Not all saturated fats are fats are made equal. Take butter or coconut oil vs a donut. The butter and coconut oil contain a certain type of saturated fat plus vitamins and minerals. They raise your hdl, lower triglycerides, and raise a certain type of ldl that doesn’t stick to your arteries that much. The donut contains saturated fat but also lots of sugars, trans fats or fully hydrogenated oils, and processed starch. Saturated fat plus sugar, processed starch, or trans fat is a lethal mix. All of those mixed in the donut will spike your bs, insulin, and cause your liver to make more ldl, vldl, triglycerides, and trans fat also lowers your hdl. So which one is healthier? You tell me.

  • Canola oil and vegetable oils are not really the best for you. A little bit is fine and can be healthy. Omega 6 is not bad for you. It is just about keeping a balance between omega 6 and omega 3. Having too much omega 3 is bad too. It is the same with HDL and LDL. You just need an appropriate balance. Too much hdl is bad and too much ldl is bad. ldl is needed for endocrine function. hdl is needed to prevent heart disease and to balance ldl. Omega 6 is important for brain function. Omega 3 is needed to build cells and prevent heart disease. Flaxseed oil is better than Canola.

  • When adding MCT oil to coffee, if you do that with a Styrofoam cup, like I did at work, You can expect the oil to become hotter then the coffee and melt the bottom of the cup. be carefull.

  • Intermittent fasting for weight loss is just a window of time that you can or cannot eat! As a real-life example, I’m doing a 16-hour fast, followed by an 8-hour window of opportunity to eat! I’m also going to the gym every other day! It acts as a means to reduce the risk of overeating by creating a limited window to eat and adding exercise on top of that helps to create a calorie deficit, which is required to lose weight! Granted, creating too large of a calorie deficit can be harmful, since your body requires a certain amount of calories to function. But as long as you are getting proper nutrition and monitoring what you are eating and when you are eating, it can be an essential lifestyle change that can benefit you well into the future!

I went to a nutricionist and she adviced my of course to eat the right portions, but also to eat a bit more (between 1400 and 2000).   • I had gastric bypass 21 years ago and I’ve gained some weight back! Is there any advice for post gastric bypass and weight loss? And what type of diet do you recommend? Maybe supplements that should be taken for nutrition and absorption issues!

  • Unfortunately, a stand up desk isn’t an option for me neither are the push ups. But I’m sure I can find other solutions. The bathroom is rather far away from my desk and I use that opportunity to powerwalk there. It doesn’t hurt that I have to wear an extra 5 lbs on my feet because of steel toed shoes:) Love the coconut oil idea…not a fan of coffee but maybe I can wean myself off of soda with a cup of coffee in the am.

  • Thanks Thomas… I have already gone to the stand-up desk, and using coconut oil (not tried it in my coffee)… I have been looking at fish oil (omega 3’s)… and you are right, way too much info out there… hard to know, who to listen to?

  • I use coconut oil in my morning organic coffee and in my organic green tea all day. It tastes good. I break that one tablespoon of coconut oil up into those several hot drinks throughout my day.

  • Thank you for these tips. Where I work I’m up all the time I work at a school cafeteria we don’t have time to set we are always running or walking fast all day. Coconut oil I love to cook with I always use it for my hair once a month. I love the push up one I’m going to try that. I also do squats when I finish using the restroom or bathroom like ten and that’s help me on my butt. Thanks once again

  • Great tips thank you. I used to eat 1 or 2 teaspoons of organic unrefined coconut oil every morning by itself. I need to get back to that. Question: Is it the caffeine in the coffee or the coffee that provides the antioxidants? I drink decaf occasionally but I am more of a green tea drinker or Pom juice for the antioxidants. I never knew coffee had antioxidants. Thanks again:).

  • Hi Thomas… I have congestive heart failure. I’m on the national transplant list and waiting for a new heart. It’s hard for me to exercise much. I love your channel and the information you provide. I’m also on a low sodium diet due to the heart failure. Just wondering what you can suggest to help me lose a few pounds before my transplant. I can only walk about 15 feet before I’m huffing and puffing. I know it’s a strange case and not sure there is much you can suggest but there are a lot of heart and low sodium people out here.
