When it comes down to it, most trainers agree that you don’t need to walk with weights. It is best to focus on building strength separately and making sure your walking form is as efficient as it can be. “It’s really not necessary to use hand, wrist or ankle weights when walking,” reiterates Sullivan. Has it made you wonder if you should be walking with weights, too? If so, read on to learn the potential benefits and risks before heading out on the block. “When you think about walking, there are only a few ways to change your intensity,” says medical exercise specialist Chris Gagliardi, a spokesperson for the American Council on Exercise.

You should be an experienced walker before using weights, meaning that your routine, which should include walking fast and uphill, is no longer challenging for you. Start by using 1-lb. weights and bend your elbows to 90 degrees when swinging your arms. Do not increase the weight by more than 1 lb. at a time. You can also try weight vests.

Yes, I’m not kidding, there are studies showing that eating garlic every day works better than many prescription drugs. I’ve made a video about it recently.   • If you wanna use leg weights don’t use high weight. Use a lower weight and don’t only just walk also incorporate dynamic movement such as slow kicking, knee raises, and butt kicks. I only use 1.5 lb leg weights and after wearing them for a long time and using them when on walks or kicking drills I haven’t experienced any pain in my legs, ankle joints or knees. They’re pretty fun too, you see quick results after wearing them consistently.

  • good video. with ankle weights i wouldn’t recommend wearing them everyday. the best way to avoid injury with them and still get the benefits is to remember that your ankles need time to recover from workout just like every other part of your body. dont forget to stretch.

  • Lucy you have wonderful exercises and workouts but when it comes to nutrition please, please do some (lots of) reasearch don’t tell people to eat dairy or light products they are poison and that’s exactly what will give women hot flashes during menopause.
    We no longer live in the 90’s, many studies have been made, no one needs to “eat” milk after 4 years of age and we now know that the dairy industry is a giant lobbie that profits from people who just accept what is being told to them instead of making their own research.

    As you are appreciated by so many, the least you could do is to spread the right message.
    And I’m not even a veggan if that’s what you are thinking.
