2-Week Power Walking Program to Build Fitness. by Jessica Smith. January 19, 2020. No Comments. The power of a good, brisk walk is a great starting point if you’re looking to improve your health.

It offers numerous health benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease, lower body mass index and waist circumference, just to name a few. This two-week program is designed to kickstart your walking routine, but feel free to repeat it, add an extra day, lengthen your walk time and/or increase your pace (if you feel up for more) to extend the challenge. Be sure to listen to your body as you go, and adjust the recommendations to meet your personal preferences, schedule and current fitness level.

Power walking is an excellent way to improve your health, maintain fitness, and enhance your sense of well-being. If you use correct technique, power walking can help you transform a simple walk. Power walking is a fast style of walking that uses exaggerated arm movements to move faster and burn more calories than regular walking. Power walking is a great way to make your walks more intense while remaining lower impact than jogging. You’ll also engage more of your body without the need for a gym membership or fancy gear. Split up your walk into two parts—one in the morning and one at night (or other time slots that work for you).

Walk at an easy-to-moderate pace for all. Week 2: Change Your Pace. If you are power walking, you will probably be closer to 12 minutes a mile.

See this pace calculator to find out your pace and finishing times for certain race distances at your current pace. How to Complete a Power Walking Session: 1. Always start with a slow warm-up period. You don’t need to jump straight into your power walking session. Do this beginner’s 4-week walking program to help reduce pain and build strength. Start slow up to 10 minutes a day 3-4 times a week and build up.

Check with your doctor first. To get you started, Prevention ‘s former fitness editor Michele Stanten created a simple, 10-minute strength-training routine that targets your legs, butt, and feet. Do this routine 2 or 3 days a. With this plan, you’ll aim to burn an average of 300 calories per day, with a combination of walking, strength training and stretching. General recommendations are walking three days/week, strength training for 2–3 days/week and flexibility training two days/week (or more), but should be adjusted to meet your current fitness level and schedule.

Each week, add about two minutes to your walking time. In addition to walking, add strength training exercises — such as pushups, planks and squats — to your routine. For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends these exercise guideline.

Depending on the intensity (moderate intensity or vigorous intensity), three to five days per week is recommended.2,3 One workout per week gives little training effect, but improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness accelerate rapidly when workout frequency is increased to three to five days per week.

  • Thank you from my heart for your program. I have been following you with great pleasure for more than 3 years. I am 62 years old and I do your schedule 3-4 times a week. Thanks and good luck!

  • I absolutely loved this!
This is the kind of cardio I like…not all the crazy stuff, just pure cardio.
I do strength training every other day, so don’t want to burn my body out doing cardio.
    Thank you!!!

  • Thanks, Leslie for this wonderful fast walking exercise. I am 67 yrs old and doing this 2 mile walk 2-3 times a week. All the best from Singapore.

  • I started this March 15, 2020. 3 to 4 times a week. Feel so much. Since I’m at high risk it give me something to look forward to. Thanks so much Leslie.

  • I love you mam and thanku for helping lots of people like me in reducing their weight and making their lives happier and healthifr

  • Stepping or flying? Doesn’t matter. 5300 steps, burned 517 calories, 38peak minutes, 18 cardio. Wahoo!!! Loved it all, I’ve already added to my favorites folder. Thank you.

  • Stevie. I hope you are still alive. Thank you for sharing this. I felt i can walk further with more power with your technique. Bless you. From Malaysia

  • I have no way to measure my steps (and don’t worry about it). I just want to move (for the joy of movement and cardio and toning and strength and flexibility) and this workout, like all of yours, did all that for me. I am not sure I would have noticed the music getting faster-I just knew you (and I!) were moving fast and working up a seat. I almost did a kickboxing one since you posted on Facebook recommending that people be open to doing other types of workouts, but the first two I clicked on incorporated stuff I don’t have like a ball and step or a chair that I didn’t have room for. So I selected this one and I will be coming back to it often. Thanks!

  • Hi. Does anyone know the name of the type of weights she is using? I am trying find a set to purchase. The ones you can roll up onto your wrist and put your hand through.

  • Today I battled a bit,but I managed to keep up.I feel great after a workout.I am doing the fat burning soup diet and it gets rid of the ecxess water in your body. Thanks for this workouts,Leslie.

  • +Kristy Yang. This gentleman can be critiqued on his level of fitness legitimately bc he is a personal athletic trainer, which is a coach for fitness and nutrition. If he was a toll booth operator or a bus driver, the comments may be out of line; here, they are as appropriate as critiquing a surgeon on their ability to use a scalpel, or a professional race driver in their braking technique.

    Bottom line: he’s a muffin-top.

  • this is amazing workout since soo many years im following her exercise and get the best result fo it….this is the best workout which really works

  • What’s this guy on lol. Obviously doesn’t do anything to rid that weight from his stomach and as for the love handles, say no more.
MY ADVICE: Get a decent pair of trainers and walk. Walk slightly quicker than you would usually, move your arms to the speed of your legs. This way you don’t look like a freak flaying your arms back and forth like an idiot as he portrays in his pathetic blog.
Play a few games with oneself by finding a landmark… Such as a post box or even five or six lamppost ahead and try to guess how many strides it will take you to to reach. You’ll be surprised how accurate you become. You will feel the benefit after a few walks… This Guy thinks he has to use a young women, with a massive arse, to project his American/ English Bullshit.
Check out my… Stride With Pride… Coming to you SOON…

  • I learnt power walking by being naturally late to everything. Great way to get fit while you sweat your way to the next appointment.

  • leslie, I am not sure if we indeed do a 2 mile session in this exercise. Please clarify and also specify the calorie burned while doing this session

  • I couldn’t do it at first but now I cannot do a day without it! Leslie is such an educator. I love how she teaches about why we do a step. Keep it up.

  • What kills me is she doesn’t lose weight. Her hips and thighs have always been the same size since i can remember lol this routine doesn’t make you sweat, so do yourself a favor and actually go out and walk. This is bull!!!

  • Plz don’t show advertise in-between as the link to do steps get interrupted also it is imp to maintain proper speed. You can show advertisment at the starting. point.Consider the request.

  • wow glad I did this today so much sadness and negativity in my life but feeling so much better I can do this I can handle whatever is placed in my way no obstacle shall deter me

  • Leslie
This is the second workout Zi have done with you. I am 71 years old and I think in good shape. I love your motivation and inspire me to push harder. I did the 2 mile walk and boy was I sweating. Definitely will do more of these workouts

  • My friends and I have been doing these walking programmes for the last 10 weeks while in lock down in Portugal. We do half hour in the morning and half hour late afternoon. The results are fantastic I have lost 15 pounds but 8 inches around my body. Many thanks. happy walking

  • Nadyia is awesome! They all are! She is so inspirational and beautiful. I enjoy this one a lot. I love the new folks/team Leslie has assembled, and I especially enjoy these short workouts. I can do a few of them each day and I don’t get too overwhelmed, which would make me procrastinate and stop before I get started exercising again. I have the menopause belly, UGH, it’s time to get back to walking with Leslie and her beautiful team.

  • Just about a perfect workout. Just challenging enough for this 72-year-old. I’m not sure that 3rd song is faster than the 2nd one—feels slower—but who cares as long as we keep moving!

  • Thank you! I stand up all day at work so I’m pretty tired when I get home but… I’m still doing my walks with all you lovely people. Thank you for being here for me

  • First of al,l I’m so sorry for all the stupid haters that have offended you here. Don’t pay attention to them, they’re just assholes and of course, you are not fat, neither is ypur female partner. And now, i wanna THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND then thank you again, lol! This is an AMAZING video, I loved it and more importantly, last night I gave it a try, following your advises and oh boy! what a workout! I’m still feeling it:). So, again thanks a lot for your great tips and for your excellent, enjoyable great mood! HAve a nice day!!

  • I’m 42, and I started doing these workouts regularly during the covid shutdown. They are great! I’m not a person that enjoys working out (who does) but I’ve noticed a big difference in how I feel since doing these workouts. I sit at a desk most of the day, and I’ve been doing these workouts at least 3 times a week (sometimes more) and I have so much more energy, and my body is looking a lot better. My mood has improved. (Seriously, why didn’t I just workout before, it really does cure everything!) I love how customizable these workouts are. For example, I use 2-pound arm weights during these walking workouts. Helps my arms to tone up, and burn more calories! Thanks for these awesome workouts! I’m feeling and I’m finally getting that it does feel good to sweat!

I’m happy to report I’ve lost 25 pounds working out with Angie, and I can’t wait to lose 75 more!! As we try to stay encouraged while getting through this COVID-19 virus epidemic, Angie’s Power Walks have been a God send. Thank you Angie. Keep up the fantastic workouts!!

  • loved doing this everyday just in time for quarantine no need to go to the gym luv the wslking im 61 yrs old it fits me thou walk walk walk at home

  • I tried this and everybody I passed pointed and laughed. A kid on a tricycle even called me a fa**ot. I think it’s the arm movements that are the problem.

  • Leslie Thank you for giving me this tummy burning workout during the Quarantine time in America. I love your workout all of them and all your instructor you have made great choices for us when you give yourself a break your followers are still taken care of. Be Well

  • Sorry guys but it looks like he’s hiding a pillow under his shirt. Not an issue for the average guy but for a 20 year fitness trainer, well, yeah it’s a problem.

  • A continued walk at home to complete my 60 minutes for the day. Thank you for keeping me movinf in this covid time. All of the leaders are awsome.

  • I notice many people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets (just google search it). But I’m not sure if it’s good. Have you ever tried this popular diet plan?

  • The best thing about losing weight is that you feel lighter. I lose 5 pounds in 1 week by following this method: the2weekdietnow (G00GLE it)

  • This was a good workout! I’m sweating!!! You always have awesome workouts! I need a fitbit so bad! Maybe soon I can get one! 2 more pounds down! Slowly but surely! I really need to do this since I’m Diabetic! Thank you Angie!!

  • I always enjoy walking with you guys.
Thanks Leslie amd the whole team of walkers. Love your passion and energy.
I have been doing this walking for almost 3 months since we started our lockdown. But I have decided to continue walking with all of you

  • Not sure how many steps I took but, thanks for being there. I fell off the wagon ico working out and you were instrumental in me getting back to it. Thank you!

  • This was fun!!! Love the new generation of walkers! Nadia! Keep up the amazing, out of this world energy! Positive vibes were flowing from this Jersey girl! As a mother of three I am making strides to a healthier and me and these videos work!!

  • I’ve been doing Walk at Home workouts for awhile now. But this one was disappointing. Too much chatter and not enough moves in between the walks. I muted it and finished the workout.

  • Thanks for posting this, my family and I did the first mile one yesterday and the first and this one today. It’s super fun and doesn’t feel that much like exercising!

  • I am so thankful I found the 5K workout with Leslie. When covid hit I had doctors orders to exercise and my gym was closed. I am 64 1/2 with 4 stents in my heart. I have always been active but not the right kind for my heart. Anyway I was desperate during lock down to find something on tube. Thank you Leslie for helping me keep up with my exercise routine.

  • I did not wear my Fitbit but will wear it tomorrow. However, the beats per minute were excellent. I am dripping with sweat. Love the video and the series will definitely help me get back in to fitness. Thanks.

  • My steps on my fitbit charge were around 4660. I am not very flexibile so am struggling with soreness in my upper arms. I really try to stretch them, I plan to take a one day break in between the arm exercises in hopes that they will adjust. I love the walking workouts!! Thank you so much!!

  • Leslie you are just the best. I never thought excercise could be this easy and so much fun. Especially your walk walk walk. Oooo it gives me a kick to do more.

  • I m from Brasil! I do the 30 minute classes from Tuesday to Friday! It is excellent for my health mainly. Sleep apnea is gone! Gratitude always

  • The comments below are as usual pathologically negative from a bunch of unappreciative people..first of all they are lucky they even have a computer to watch this and secondly they are lucky that they live in a society or geographical area that allows you to try this..

By the way thanks for posting this video..

  • I can’t believe the crap you guys are giving the trainer, I prefer someone with motivation than whatever perfection it is you all are looking for in people, that being said, I don’t know if I want to go around my little town walking like this lol

  • Sir,in my daily routine it is necessary to me walking 2 km distance for reaching bus of office with 4 kg weight of my bag.
How’s this I will utilise as a exercise? please help

  • Hello, thank you for this wonderful video. I was 83.5 kgs in the month of December when I started to walk. Then, I came across your video. I am now 72.5 kgs and I do still go in the morning out in the field doing the same way, walking as you have suggested. I started jogging very lately but the power walking technique has really helped me. I walk in the same pace, keeping the arms position exactly what you have showed. Thank you very much. You have changed my life and I feel so light and fit. LOL, all my pants are so loose that I have to tighten them. Thank you.

  • Been doing these for years, they really work. Went down from over 200lbs to around 160lbs in just a few months. It really starts getting effective when you throw in some dumbbells and leg weights!

  • I love these walks… They’ve helped hugely during the lockdown! I am fitter than I’ve been in many years, and I’ve noticed that waistbands aren’t so tight anymore. I’ve worn out two pairs of socks though…

  • I just started doing this along with a friend: we make a zoom meeting on one device, and turn on the video at our own homes on a different device. We turn off our Zoom audio and video and do Leslie’s walk simultaneously in our own homes… then turn on the zoom audio/video for a visit after exercising! IT’s fantastic!!!!

  • I am from India and luckily while browsing through various workouts I found Leslie’s video. And since that there’s no turning back.
Doing walk each day is like my daily ritual.
It’s beautiful form of workout and guess what with these walks and little conscious eating, I have lost 5 kgs in 3-4 weeks.
Thank you from my heart. Love ♥️

  • Firstly, if I came out of the house and thought everyone was looking at me, there’s no way I’d be walking like that.  Secondly, why make your walking so inefficient, when you can walk faster and more efficiently and burn as many calories as well as having the usable tool of being able to walk faster.  Thirdly, who takes health advice from someone who’s overweight.

  • I been doing this everyday with Leslie during this quarantine pandemic. I am 66 yrs old. Very relaxing. And after 1 month their is a great diffirence in my body

  • Best fitness video I’ve watched on YouTube in forever. Informative and very hilarious! “I don’t know about you, but I’m using my butt cheeks.” Made me laugh out loud! XD I can’t wait to try some power walking!

  • I hope Steve doesn’t listen to the negative comments. I’d rather spend time with him than a skinny bloke or body builder who is boring or unhappy. This guy is mega attractive. Love his energy and his smile. He’s beautiful And funny

  • Some fit or wannafit people are like religious people: fanatic!  Take it easy pals! These two nice people giving us something valuable. Shall we thank them by ugly words?

  • Do anybody know about Custokebon Secrets? Does it really work? I hear most people lost their weight with this popular weight loss diet plan.

  • Really nice workout..easy to follow steps by step..you may checkout more hardcore workout at Home using this: https://amzn.to/36vml04

  • You are my favourite. No other youtube video could motivate me this much. But i do this daily. Thanks fr motivation and efforts. Its really so interesting. And it works.

  • Both of them are fairly fit. We can’t all be a size 0. Gosh, people are so rude when they feel anonymous. Post your own pictures so we can scrutinize you. We all have flaws and I applaud both of them for pursuing health and fitness.

  • I’ve been doing this “walk at home” exercises for the last 3 months during the lockdown period and believe me…THE RESULTS ARE AMAZING!!
Thank you very much for your great contribution to make us all fit and healthy!

  • Please post the link to the dance version of “I give you love, you bring me joy,” which starts playing at the beginning of mile 2.

  • Thanks dear I am from India and it’s too inspiring video I just started it from last week but I really feel awasom and thankful to you dear.

  • Hi Leslie……A great Thank you……I had a heart problem and I was looking for exercise that I can do without much strain and I found this….It really changed my body…..as you said my heart is happy….my body is happy…I am happy…God Bless you Leslie….I have started feeling fit and I am loosing weight tooo…….

  • I enjoy the workouts they are fun and easy to follow…I’d like to see more 20 to 25 minute workouts I do a morning routine than walk my dog and I do a 5 minute routine everyday on break which keeps me going… your team leaders are great enjoy the workouts with Nick, Nadia is good but she needs to remember to give a heads-up before the transition like count down and advise what we are doing next I find her a little choppy and for someone who has had knee surgery on both knees it can be hard to abruptly make a transition…all in all love you guys and keep on walking…I know I will…

  • Today is my 5th days joining This Walk HOME with u Guys Jun 27 2020 From The Kingdom Of Bahrain ⬅️

  • Dear Leslie, thank you for these walks which have kept me healthy and sane these past 90 days of lock-down in Mexico City. they make my day!!!!!

  • I love this. I am 74 and this was just fantastic I love it I could keep up with it to unbelievably I had belong to a gym for years and years before the pandemic and this is just the perfect solution. I just discovered you yesterday so I am thrilled. Thank you

  • Thank you so much for this workouts, Leslie! ♥️ I started in April doing the 1 mile walk (I do 2 miles now), I read your book (and followed the advice), and I’m happy to share that I have lost 20 pounds so far

  • I have walked with this lady for around 6 months and I absolutely love it. I was in a wheelchair for a year and had to loose weight to get my fourth replacement surgery done, I have osteoarthritis and osteoporosis diagnosed at 26 and I’m now 68. I have had my fourth replacement surgery done three days before Christmas 2018, I a started WW in March 2018. I lost four and a half stone to get my fourth replacement surgery done. I have now lost seven stone eleven pounds and at my goal for a year. Love being able to workout with you Leslie. I’m now awaiting my fifth replacement surgery done but I carry on my workouts!

  • I bought Walk At Home 3 mega miles during the strict lockdown in Italy. I love it!! I’m hitting 70 yrs old in a few months, but have been an avid exerciser for 50 years. This workout kept me physically and mentally fit. Now that our lockdown is over, I’m still getting up early to do the workout before heading out the door. These workouts are great for young and old alike.

  • Hi Leslie I’m from Malaysia I love ur workout and now it’s my favorite routine. Tq I can see my body shape through ur workout. How many calories are burn through this work out may I know.

  • I am new here and I am a bit lost. Now,how many times I should do this in a week to see results and for how many weeks? I do other exercises and I want to fit this in my routine but i need to know for how long so i can get the best benefits.

  • I praise God no one lives below me because my feet have found your rhythm and these floorboards are crying out to the Almighty.

  • Leslie thank you for getting me through the rough the dark days of COVID. After I lost my job in March in the hotel industry I was a little depressed and worried. You kept my spirits up AND I lost 8 pounds! You are the best and a super positive roll model!

  • You guys are awesome!!! I loved the energy!!! Going through the pandemica with you has made a huge difference…. Thank you!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • I like all of the workouts I’ve tried so far this one is great, but I’ve just registered 2.55 miles and not 3.1 as I expected doesn’t really matter, I’m still moving a lot, but could the difference in the step length be responsible for this?

  • Hi Angie! If I’m reading this fitbit right my heart rate got up to 145, 5726 steps, and 627 calories burned. What?!! Doesn’t matter! I LOVED THIS WORKOUT!!! Before I knew it it was over! Love your infectious enthusiasm. You make me love working out!! Thank you!
