VEGAN LENTIL SLOPPY JOES | easy slow cooker recipe

Video taken from the channel: Simply Quinoa

Ingredients. 2 teaspoons butter. 1 small onion, finely chopped. 1 package (12 ounces) frozen vegetarian meat crumbles.

1/2 teaspoon pepper. 2 tablespoons all. These vegetarian sloppy joes are loaded with flavor and are extremely high in nutritional value. Place a hefty scoop of the lentil and bean combination on a toasted whole wheat bun and you’ve got a fabulous meal. Since I don’t eat bread, I ate mine without the bun.

You can even top it with a little shredded cheese, if you’d like. Pour your olive oil in the bottom of your Instant Pot and add the onions and garlic and salt. Using the saute feature cook your onions and garlic for about 5 minutes. If using a slow cooker you can use it’s saute feature if it has one, or saute your onions and garlic in a small pan then add them to the slow cooker.

Put the courgette, pepper, red onion, sweet potato, garlic, 1tsp mustard and chopped tomatoes in your slow cooker. Cook on a high setting for 5 hrs. Split the wholemeal rolls in half. Top each bottom half with a lettuce leaf and a spoonful of the.

Freshly ground black pepper. Cayenne pepper to taste (I used 1/16t) Stir all ingredients together right in the slow cooker. There’s no need for measuring cups, just eyeball or get out the kitchen scale for the lentils, broth and tomato paste! These Vegan Sloppy Joes are made in one pot in about 20 minutes! Slow Cooker Curried Lentils and Kale – Enjoy as is or with rice and naan for an even more substantial meal.

Budget friendly and delicious! lentil sloppy joes, vegetarian sloppy joes. Prep Time 5 minutes. Cook Time 15 minutes. Total Time 20 minutes.

Servings 4 servings. In a large skillet, cook beef, celery and onion over medium-high heat 8-10 minutes or until beef is no longer pink, breaking up beef into crumbles; drain. Transfer to a 3-qt. slow cooker. Slow cook the sloppy joes. Cover and cook on the LOW setting low for 4 to 8 hours, or on HIGH setting for 2 to 3 hours.

Assemble the sloppy joes. Stir the mixture again, then divide the mixture between the hamburger buns and serve immediately. Coat a 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Drain and rinse the soaked beans; transfer to the slow cooker. Stir in bell pepper, tomato sauce, water, soy sauce (or tamari) and tomato paste to combine.

Spread the carrot-onion mixture over the bean mixture, but don’t stir the two together. The ground beef and onion get browned in a dutch oven beforehand and then you dump those ingredients into the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker with the rest of the ingredients and let it simmer for a few hours. Cooking the meat for sloppy joes in the slow cooker makes for the most delicious, tender, and seasoned beef filling.

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS: Since the texture of the meat is important when it comes to Sloppy Joes, we found it necessary to get out our skillet and brown the beef before adding it to the slow cooker; this simple step ensured small but consistent pieces of tender ground beef.

  • I made this sloppy joe recipe tonight, and it was very good! I recently discovered your channel, and have been watching and enjoying your cooking videos. I recently bought a crock pot for the very first time, and your sloppy joe recipe is the first recipe I tried in it. I will be trying more of your recipes! Thanks!:)

  • Yum, this looks so good. My partner always makes sloppy joes with the Yves brand veggie ground round but i have been on the hunt for a healthier more “whole foods” alternative. this looks perfect!

  • Added to my favorites playlist. Can’t wait to make this. Love the spaghetti squash idea. I like all your videos,, this one was awesome,, often times I am limited as to how many videos I can watch in a day,, this was quick and simple to follow. I appreciate all your work here. Thanks. Have a lovely day.

  • Do you think it’s okay to just do one cup of veggie broth? I’m using a 4qt crock pot for this and one I put one cup in, it practically flooded it, even after stirring well. I’m kind of worried two more cups will ruin it!

  • This looks amazing Alyssa I recon even my meat eating husband would try this, especially on a lovely warm roll…he loves “normal” sloppy joes but this looks exactly like that! Tfs

  • My 11 year old daughter came out this week as vegan. We’ve been half vegan half meat eaters for a very long time. This will definitely push me into trying new recipes to replace the meat in sloppy joes. I will definitely make this recipe tonight. Thank you for showing an alternative to the famous meaty sloppy Joe.

  • this is a great recipe that I have made several times. you can also use. finely grated cauliflower in place of the red beans as well as a packet of McCormick sloppy joe seasoning in place of the other seasonings. it’s strange how cauliflower can give you the mouth feel of ground beef.

  • Sorry if this is a silly question, but does the type of lentil matter? I have some red lentils in my cupboard that I’d like to use. Thanks!

  • Omg yes girl!!! I am making these on Thursday!!! I’ll let you know how it turns out for me! But quick question… could I leave the mushrooms out? I love them but my fiancé isn’t jazzed about them when they aren’t crispy

  • just want to say i LOVE all your recipes, and you’re “what i eat in a day” videos. I watch them all the time in the morning and it’s a really positive influence to make better choices through out my day. Thanks a ton:)

  • Thanks for the recipe! I added to much BBQ and tomato sauce…Aargh! I had to “recover” by adding lentils to firm up my sloppy joe mixture. Awesome tutorial!

Question: Can I add oatmeal to my lentils if I don’t have quinoa?

  • I’m trying to cut out garlic/onion any ideas what can be used to replace these 2 suckers? Cause they pretty much in every cooking recipe.

  • Very high quality slow cooker.>>> t.co/5t2ibXh7Bt It was a gift for my mother, but oddly enough i found myself using it more than her!! lol

  • Thank you for this easy recipe. Ive been looking for the vegan version for a quick fix and I found ur great recipe!! Go vegan babes!!

  • These look really delish! The sauce is so similar to how I make sloppy Joes, how funny. I also so enjoy the quality of your videos=D

  • Just funny that lentil sloppy joes came out on the FOK and now so many others are making their own twist on things! I love the verity.
