Pumpkin Spice refers to the blending of three traditional dessert spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, with the occasional addition of ginger and/or actual pumpkin flavoring.. Starbucks created the PSL in the fall of 2003, released the following year.. It became a full-fledged cultural mainstay of the season, and has since become a tongue-in-cheek synonym with suburban white girl culture.. Researchers have found pottery shards in Indonesia that contain residual amounts of nutmeg — one of the leading “spices” in pumpkin spice. This is 2,000 years longer than originally thought.. Nutmeg and other spices became invaluable commodities throughout the centuries since then, lending to the spice trade that exploded in medieval Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North Africa.. The region of Indonesia these nutmeg-dusted ceramic bits is known as the Banda Islands, which in the 1300s would become known as part of the Spice Islands for some several hundred years.. Cinnamon has been in use even longer than nutmeg, known to have been popular in ancient Egypt some 4000+ years ago.. Cinnamon became an especially popular condiment in Classic Rome, where, before the advent of Nutmeg or Pumpkins in Europe, was used to season oysters.. The word pumpkin originates from the Greek word pepon, meaning large melon. This became pompon via the French, pompion thanks to the British, and then finally pumpkin by the early American colonists.. The Irish and Scottish tradition of Jack-O-Lanterns had originally involved turnips, onions and/or other roundish root vegetables. 19th century Americans adapted the tradition to the winter gourd native to the Americas.. While it is not the only fruit or vegetable that matures come early autumn, the pumpkin and its accompanied spices has become synonymous with the season, thanks in part to its role in early American agriculture, and the very popular pumpkin pie’s place on the Thanksgiving holiday table.. ok.. i’m kinda excited to see Kitchen #3 😉 and YEA! She Eats! lol
try the Spiralizer… it’s kinda fun to “play with your food”. i need to get back to making more zucchini spaghetti and getting away from flour products.
Oh my, it’s soooo good! And I usually don’t even like pumpkin:D btw, do you just buy pumpkin purée or do you make it from fresh pumpkins yourself? I live in Switzerland and I can’t really find canned pumpkins or anything like this (except sometimes on Halloween and I still had a can from last year)
This is amazing!!! It really captures the theme really well! And lol I know it can be hard to do the sponsor talk because viewers are usually not paying attention but for a brand like kitchen aid it doesn’t even feel irrelevant because most people either own something from KA or planning to get it in future. And their appliances are really pretty on top of being good quality, so why not! Great work Lauren.
your videos are always so nice to watch it. they calm me down & are so soothing & the way the video is so clear, amazing! and I know how to change up my instant coffee in the morning. sending you love from LA
Hi i I’m obsessed with ur videos thank u so much I’m literally waiting on all ur videos to go up lol. Btw I wanted to ask you where do u find coconut whipped cream and where do u find coconut sour cream??
Great recipe ! I would like to add one thing Cinnamon doesn’t dissolve like sugar does, so after you add the spices and sweetener to the coffee and whisk it, you can strain it using a sieve before you add the milk on topif you want a homogeneous consistency:)
The real pumpkin puree in your latte looks amazing!! I would love a warm cup of this right now, its getting pretty cold in Winnipeg lately ahaha! Great recipe video Wil! To answer your question that you asked in the pinned comment, fun fact about myself that you might not know is that i’m half Chinese and half Japanese lol!
Love your videos! Deffo new subscriber here And this recipe just came at the right time. Getting some fall inspired recipes already And just roasted some pumpkin too
Is PSL really not vegan? I ordered it with coconut milk in Prague last year.. why would they offer it with non-dairy milk if it contains condensed milk? Maybe the usual PSL is not vegan, but can be with milk alternative added?

Working on Hot for food for the last 2.5 years has been incredible, but unfortunately this is my last episode. Thinking back to all the hilarious moments (AND PUNS!), great food, and getting to work with such amazing people. It was such a growing experience for me, and I am grateful. Thank you for accepting me as apart of your community over the years. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have! But most importantly, thank you Lauren for the opportunity. You have been a colleague, mentor, and a friend. And I wish nothing but the best for you in LA! You are truly above the law! -Alex
WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS COCONUT CREAM IN A CAN??? i have had the soyawhip or whatever it’s called in the can… but it never comes out lol like it takes forever
So everytime I watch your videos two things happen 1. I get hungry and send my husband to the grocery store cause sudden food cravings during pregnancy are a bitch 2. My cat, runs towards me (even if he was sleeping) and starts smashing his face against the phone and purring. I thing he likes your voice
HOORAY! Laura’s beautimus face is gracing us! I scored a Kitchenaide mixer at a garage sale for $10 about 10 years ago, it has several attachments too. I don’t think the people cooked, or were ignorant to the cost of these things. I love it, and it reminds me of my childhood whenever I use it!
Lovely pie and lovely Lauren! Tho Kitchen Aid is waaay overrated. Have been through 5 already. And the heavy glass bowl? Sure, if you use it only once a while. Person who designed it is not cooking often.
I just found your channel and I feel like I struck gold! I’m a beginner vegan and I feel like I have everything I need to start a healthy lifestyle! Thank you!
Savoring all of this video! That pie is everything and KitchenAid is right on time all the time! I miss (in no particular order) 1. You on camera 2. This kitchen 3. Alex 4. Natalie Ok, I’m good…for the moment LOL
ill admit those first few seconds of you grating the “ginger” i was genuinely thinking my own eyes were fooling me and i was desperately trying to see the ginger
I could watch this all day! Pumpkin cream cold brews are my new fave since they came out with them last year at starbucks. And thankfully I learned how to make a good dupe at home too! Where’s that wooden spoon from? It’s so cute!
Lay ho ma!:) Mmmm I could almost smell the scent just by watching this! Looks so delicious! (If only I had a espresso machine…) Thank you for sharing this with us!
你好 I like to see your eyes when you talk. Feels like you are looking at us and share the joy of your cooking sessions. By the way can I buy your cook book online?
OMG! am I the only person gasped at the first 2 secs of this vid like they saw a long lost friend?! it’s so good to see u Lauren! (I mean I do follow you on IG but still LOL) Thank U!
This is the best video I’ve ever seen. I keep watching it since years. It makes me feel calm and grounded. This video is underrated. I’m forever grateful for that
I don’t know why, but this video is so relaxing and soothing! It’s like ASMR, but educational. I especially liked the part where the pumpkin was being cut! So satisfying!
Maddie, how long after you started eating pretty much whole foods plant based no oil did you switch to water only washing with your hair? I’m wondering if it’d be better to give myself time to get rid of the junk out of my body first before I make the switch.
Hey Maddie! Could you make a recipe video for leftover almond pulp from making the milk? I always struggle finding something yummy to make with it! thanks! xoxo
I used my Gramma’s Kitchen Aid mixer for years, til I got a new one last year. My Gramma’s is sixty years old, and still works great, but I wanted to give it a well deserved break.
And this is what I am bringing to Thanksgiving tomorrow. Thanks!
I’ve been making this exact same recipe for a few years now! It is really good and I have tried it with chai and even coffee, both versions are good. Now if I can find vegan whip cream in a can I would be golden! My sad Whole Foods doesn’t carry very many specialty vegan options…
Yummy can’t wait to try this. Thank you for posting ingredients. Most people put out a book and then stop posting ingredients so we buy their book. Which is fine. I will definitely be getting yours its just I appreciate that you still do this for us. Shows you care and we support you for it. Thanks for all your great food ideas and exercise motivation
Omg you’re a savior. I tried one from Starbucks for the first time the other day, and fell in love. Unfortunately my stomach did not even though I had it with coconut milk. Plus it was over $5 Chai tea is a great idea!
Watching your video while having breakfast in a Bruxelloise cold rainy morning makes me want a pumpkin spice latte right now! And btw “latte” in Italian means literally “milk” so… normally is not vegan
ok.. i’m kinda excited to see Kitchen #3 😉 and YEA! She Eats! lol

Fucking of course! Watching this and gonna be going to bed thinking about dang pie! Shit.. I want some now. Love you so much Lauren Toyota!!!
DAMN GORGEOUS PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE. I can’t drink espresso because I feel too jittery afterwards, but a girl can dream about a home cafe
Thank you so much!!
If I wanted a PSL I’d have to travel 3 hours to the big city to buy one because my town doesn’t have a starbucks. Plus their ones are the best I prefer homemade, I can’t wait to try this! ❤️
LAY HO MA everyone! Thumbs up if you LOVE pumpkin:):):) Have you been following and enjoying my work for some time now or joining my channel for the first time? Tell us about yourself in the comments below!

What if I can’t find instant espresso powder? I can only find it in the Keurig pods… would instant coffee work? Looks delicious!
That’s crazy! I’ve JUST started making this same drink (except not as delicious as yours), but I plan on getting more ingredients for it! This recipe rocks, THANK YOU <3
Thought I’d share my way of making a pumpkin spice latte since it’s now back for the season! Also included an easy + affordable way to make it at 03:05. p.s. everything you need to know is listed and linked in the description above. Enjoy!
Hi Lauren, It was a nice surprise to see you in Front of the Camera again ♥️Happy “American” Thanksgiving, if you’re still in The States!?! Blessings from Oklahoma,
Piper
I used to look forward to your episodes on Wednesday. It doesn’t have the same charm as you in your kitchen, alone. With the tripod.
Ok so tomorrow is Thanksgiving… And now I am thinking I need to get the rest of the ingredients to make this pie…. ASAP!!
HOW THE HELL DOES THE DRINK NOT SPILL WHEN HE”S MIXING IT AT THE END!! he’d using Harry Potter dark magic!! HOW DOE IT NOT SPILL ON HIMSELF I WOULD OF SPILLED ALL OF IT OM MY PANTS AND SHIRT!! HE BE BREAKING PHYSICS AND GRAVITY, I NEED TO LEARN HIS WAYS!! TEACH ME THE WAYS, PEACEFUL CUISINE!!

ohmigosh!!! you just made this happen for me!! i never went back for those christmas drinks in starbukcs because of the amount of sugar they put in it. but now i can have this WHENEVER i want!!!!! love you Maddie! you’re the best! can’t wait for your book to come out! Xxx
I can’t wait to try this!! I think I will make this for my holiday get together soon over the holidays. Thank you for an OG Hot for Food video
Thank you for this cool recipe! Also whenever you wear your hair like this, it gives me major Phoebe Friends Season 1 vibes! Love it!

WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS COCONUT CREAM IN A CAN??? i have had the soyawhip or whatever it’s called in the can… but it never comes out lol like it takes forever
So everytime I watch your videos two things happen
1. I get hungry and send my husband to the grocery store cause sudden food cravings during pregnancy are a bitch
2. My cat, runs towards me (even if he was sleeping) and starts smashing his face against the phone and purring. I thing he likes your voice
I tried out the recipe but unfortunately didn’t taste good. I guess the Pumpkin purée was too thick. Still didn’t taste like pumpkin latte.
Thank you Maddie!!! I have a Vegan Coffee Shop and this helps so much for me creating a fall feature!!! You’re awesome
I just found your channel and I feel like I struck gold! I’m a beginner vegan and I feel like I have everything I need to start a healthy lifestyle! Thank you!
Savoring all of this video! That pie is everything and KitchenAid is right on time all the time!
I miss (in no particular order)
1. You on camera
2. This kitchen
3. Alex
4. Natalie
Ok, I’m good…for the moment LOL
I think I was started to forget what you look like Lauren! I really do love this format but will always your vids regardless bc you’re genius!
ill admit those first few seconds of you grating the “ginger” i was genuinely thinking my own eyes were fooling me and i was desperately trying to see the ginger
I could watch this all day! Pumpkin cream cold brews are my new fave since they came out with them last year at starbucks. And thankfully I learned how to make a good dupe at home too! Where’s that wooden spoon from? It’s so cute!
Can anybody tell me why I was surprised when he brought a pumpkin out for a pumpkin spice latte?? What was I expecting this is peaceful cuisine
I promise to make this on the first rainy/chilly day I just love chai lattes and adding pumpkin is just going to make it better
How to make pumpkin spice latte:
1. Have money
2. Know where to get the ingredients
3. Have a phone
4. Watch this video
5. Realize you suck in the kitchen
I always struggle finding something yummy to make with it! thanks! xoxo
I boiled the pumpkin, didn’t use nutmeg and clove, and used granule coffee instead of espresso… It still worked, thanks for the video
I wish someone would make me a pumpkin latte like this..
Looks like he put so much love into making it, especially with the air ginger
Also your hair looks so beautiful ❤
Watching your video while having breakfast in a Bruxelloise cold rainy morning makes me want a pumpkin spice latte right now! And btw “latte” in Italian means literally “milk” so… normally is not vegan
