1968 May–In their classic vegan cookbook, A Good Cook–Ten Talents, Frank and Rosalie Hurd (both Seventhday Adventists; he is a Doctor of Chiropractic) have five recipes for non-dairy ice creams, one in which “rich soy milk” is an ingredient and four in which “soy milk powder” is an optional ingredient.

Although the flavor and mouth feel may differ, look for ice cream with sugar substitutes (labeled “no sugar added” or “sugar free”), with added calcium or other nutrients, or lactose-free, and for vegans, soy or nondairy ice cream.

After I wait excitedly for it to freeze, I top it with the Earth Diet Chocolate Sauce recipe—which is thick and smooth and chocolaty, and only has three ingredients (maple syrup, coconut oil, and cacao powder)—and some toasted nuts.

  • That’s Great! And that’s why I came here, finally found a dairy free, sugar free (if you don’t add any) and gluten free option! And it’s possible to add more flavors for those on a keto, i.e.: put berries, like strawberries, which are available most of times, cheap. We can also add a few melted chocolate 85% cocoa in other versions. Also found out coconut oil can substitute cocoa butter, cheaper. And about vanilla bean (so expensive in some regions), it can be optional, I think… But, wow! We can eat ice-cream again So Grateful

P.S.: Could you only be civilized and RESPECT other ppl lives? Some beings live in a restriction mode, not by choice. Deal with it. Or.. go to a ZOO. You can’t live in a society.

Obs.: How come you argue abt everything even a recipe? Gosh! I’m deaf to u lil’ haters.

  • Im not vegan but dairy free coconut ice cream is my favourite! I love the coconut flavour that comes through no matter what other flavours you add into it. I think my favourite is strawberry coconut ice cream, i think, or just plain vanilla coconut with chocolate chips

  • First put the coconut milk in the fridge a while and scoop off cream or turn can upside down and scoop the settled cream and leave the water for another recipe or just drink, that may be why others recipes aren’t working. It’s ice CREAM, not milk cream and all coconut milk is not equal so lose the water and should work better. I use THAI brand so not diluted and can probably use the entire contents…ijs

  • We get fresh coconut milk where I’m from and it’s very much cheaper than the canned ones. Would the fresh coconut milk work the same? Its actually more watery though.

  • I’ve been making this recipe for a while now, everybody loves it, and specially me. The mint-chocolate is a great idea! I will try that today.

  • Easier Recipe:

    600 ml Coconut Cream
    1 tin vegan condensed milk
2 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean

    1. Add the coconut cream in a chilled bowl under an ice bed (a larger bowl with ice).
    2. Whip up the coconut cream until light and fluffy with a hand mixer or whisk.
    3. Add in the vegan condensed milk, mix well with a spatula.
    4. Add in the vanilla extract or any other flavouring of your choice and mix. (exmango, chocolate etc.,)
    5. Chill in the freezer overnight or for 8 hours.
    6. SERVE AND ENJOY ☺️.

  • I just made my nice cream and I can’t wait to try it!!

Edit: Its a bit hard to scoop but it tastes really good i added some chopped up walnuts and white chocolate

  • I’ve tried this so many times. Keeps crystalizing, even w/vanilla. Should I actually add a spoon of alcohol, and if so, which one?

  • cashews are expensive as hell and those fats you used are not healthy, because theyre saturated (solid at room temp)… I discovered the perfect vegan ice cream recipe but I wont be sharing it muahaha

  • Wait…… The title says Dairy free BUT at 3:33 you said used CONDENSED MILK, I should have assumed you meant vegan condensed milk since your channel is Vegan

  • Thank you so much! Im not vegan But Im milk protein allergic and it’s so annoying when people think I’m lactose intolerant so the always add lactose free milk, and then I’m not able to eat it anyway. But this ice cream looks delicious

  • Liv I always love love love❤️ your vegan ice cream videos I also like eggnog so can you please pleeaaasssse pleeeaazzze make non-dairy eggnog ice cream please

  • Your eyebrows are sooo beautyful! I mean, you are beautyful, but those brows, damn
Thanks for sharing those recipes, will try them out:)

  • Hi Liv! I’ve heard recently that white sugar may not be vegan, and since I really want to try these recipes, do you know anything about this issue?:/

  • I never buy cookbooks. I have a few I never open. — But I know yours will be so beautifully written, easy to follow, gorgeous to look at, and completely thorough and achievable. Just like all of your videos. You’ve helped making my transition into a vegan diet so seamless and fun.

  • I know I’m late with this comment, but I’m allergic to coconut and pretty much all of the dairy free recipes seem to use coconut. It is in so much! It also seems to be a fairly rare allergy, at least here (UK).

Would anything else work for recipes like this? Or is there a “standard” substitute for each coconut product for any recipe (milk, cream, oil, dessicated, etc.)?

Glad you’re ok after the reaction! Can’t wait to buy the cookbook when it’s released!:)

  • Even faster method:
Vegan ice cream in 2 hours

1 can of Cream of coconut, chilled
    Any flavoring
    Any throw ins

Whip cream of coconut with a mixer
Add in flavoring and whip again

    Add mix ins

Place in freezer safe container and put film wrap against the ice cream
Put a lid on if you want or just leave with film wrap

    Freeze 2 hours

  • Dairy free chocolate ice cream
    2 cups of coconut milk
    1/2 tbsp of vanilla extract
    1/4 cup of stevia sugar
    1/2 tbsp of molasses
    1/2 cup of cocoa powder

  • Is the coconut flavor really strong when you eat the icecream? I tend to go for almond or cashew milk based icecream in the store so I’m just curious.

  • I’m not vegan but I would like to make this due to a lower fat content but in my country some ingredients are not sold in most local supermarkets.

  • I stopped trying any recipe that claims to be “Best” or “Best Ever” or “Amazing” or whatever other hype. Because all such recipes I have tried turned out to be the worst.

  • The recipe was a bit too salty for my taste. Maybe half as much salt or maybe even a quarter of a teaspoon. But that’s just me. I also used coconut cream instead of coconut milk, not a good choice. Too oily. Live and learn!

  • How can you measure something solid in cups… It’s nonesense… Can somebody help me? How much cocoa butter would you add, in graaaaams?!

  • I just want to let people know that cashew production is very harmful to the workers who process them. They produce an acid that irritates and harms the skin and eyes or the workers who are not given the proper PPE.

I just want to make sure people do their research before consuming foods that may be harmful!

  • Allergies are awful… I can’t eat sugar, wheat, milk products or pork… I can deal with not eating those things but I hate it when people say “I feel so sorry for you “

  • All the people saying “this looks good for vegan ice cream”, yeah news flash it’s 2020 and you can get vegan ice cream at the store like Ben Jerry’s where you can’t even tell the difference. Just because it doesn’t have cow breast milk doesn’t mean it can’t taste or look good there is good and bad vegan food just like there is good and bad animal based foods.

  • I am highly allergic to milk(not diagnosed but my throat gets itchy and tight and I cant stop coughing and severe digestive distress) but it’s perfectly okay though because I went vegan ❤️

  • Made this horrible recipe. Overly sweet
240g is way too much sugar.
After I made it, looked up similar recipes and they are calling for half as much

  • This ice cream looks delicious, I want to try this recipe. Could you tell me what brand of refrigerator is in the video? I would like to buy it. Thanks!

  • As with most vegan ice creams, this looks like it goes from solid to liquid real fast, without the soft phase in between, and it also looks kinda grainy and crystallized. It also looks extremely sweet. I’m sure it’s not bad, but it could be better.

  • YUM I love cashews for creamy iced cream and sauces. If only my child was not allergic! I usually try pine nuts as they are kind of creamy, but the taste is very different.

  • If you do not have a churn, you could kinda resemble the texture by puting the mixture in the freezer and whisk it throughly every 30 min, it is not as soft as churning it but it will be definitely creamier than letting it freeze directly

  • Recipe works great but any ice cream that doesnt have other strong flavors will have a slight chocolatey flavor from the Cacao Butter

  • so glad you mentioned peanut allergies! my toddler son also has a severe peanut allergy. Are there any coconut milks that we should try to avoid? eg. made in facilities with peanuts present/cross contamination risks? Have you had any reactions to certain brands of coconut milks?

  • I’m using coconut cream instead of milk I will give updates if anyone else is thinking of doing so

I used cream instead of milk made it more creamy. I recommend switching the coconut oil and coco butter to butter it has a way better flavour the coconut and coco butter

  • Well, give this a try today but remain liquid not creamy like in the video…disappointing cause I have high hope for this. I did everything and even churn it in Kitchen Aid ice cream maker(been frozen for 2 days). According to Kitchen Aid instruction, the cream suppose to turn into ice cream after 5 minutes of churning but since this in not your typical ice cream recipe, I let it churn on “stir” setting for an hour and its still liquid…so I just pour it into a glass bowl and leave it in the freezer. The only thing I didn’t do from direction is to let the cream sit in freezer for an hour before churning but since my Kitchen Aid ice cream maker was already frozen, I didn’t think that would matter…well, since it didn’t work, maybe it does matter…who knows.

  • Bitches getting offended bcs no one was raped, gored, murdered, in the making of this food.
If there were no laws, people would kidnap women from streets, rape them, make them pregnant, steal their babies after birth and pump oxytocin, antibiotics into them so that they produce more milk, and then after few months rape and make her pregnant again, they will kill her sons, and artificially modify her daughters so that they can do the same with her when she’s 3-4 year old

  • I usually mix frozen bananas with a few tablespoons of coconut milk non dairy creamer. Then I flavor with either cookies or natural chocolate syrup and it’s pretty bomb too.

  • Sadly, I searched for Cold Brew coffee nice cream but the Ice Cream recipe was not there. We’re those Recipes discontinued and no longer Available? Awe shucks. Delightful Vegan video. Thank you!

  • You should have recipes here, after all, this is the Internet, not South Africa Online… ☺️ Your icecream seems great, would love being able to make that and other things you make?. ☺️
