This simple Shepherd’s pie has a (very un-authentic) Mexican twist via the green chiles, chili powder, cumin, peppers, and corn. It was a favorite dish for my kids growing up, and I used to make it frequently. I love it because it gives the dish a little more flavour, and just a tiny bit of heat.

  • Awesome dish, easy instructions, good editing. Well done. I make cottage pie and still watched because I enjoy your videos. Thanks.

  • You’re so easy to follow. Explain the recipes perfectly. My son always asks for this and never make it because I thought it was complicated. But will now. You have erased my fear

  • I followed this “recipe” but with ground turkey. I call it Barnyard Pie. Came out beautifully.

Just need to get a potato ricer…

  • U can’t use beef or turkey!!!! Well you can but it’s not a shepherds pie with anything but lamb. Beef is cottage pie. Turkey you can make your own name up I guess. But cottage and shepherds pie are classic British dishes.

  • I actually have this in the oven right now..can’t wait! Mashing the potatoes without milk is a challenge..and my bowl was bigger than what she showed..but i managed!!

  • Looks delicious! I make cottage pie because my dh doesn’t like lamb. And he doesn’t care for a lot of seasonings so I keep it simple: onion, garlic, salt, pepper and some A1 thick and hearty steak sauce. I also don’t peel my potatoes because I want all the nutrition that the peels have. I dice the potatoes small. That shortens the cooking time and makes the peels smaller. I put a lot of salt in the water to season the potatoes (1-2 tablespoon depending on the number of potatoes). Then I drain the pot and put my butter in the pot of potatoes to melt and then mash. Then I fold in sour cream. I usually use the same pan (cast iron) that I cook my hamburger and peas and carrots (I use a bag of frozen peas and carrots) in and top with the mashed potatoes and then pop in the oven to bake until the potatoes are brown.

  • Just made this Recipe Let me tell you my family enjoy every single piece of it thank you so much I truly trust you with the recipes I’ve done multiple things from you cupcakes Chocolate cake lemon cake best brownies ever and let me tell you my family love the cinnamon rolls By any chance do you happen to have a biscuit recipe

  • 0:23 “There’s nothing worse than an undercooked potato.” You said it. Not war, or famine, or violent crime, or crushing poverty—no, nothing in the whole world is worse than an undercooked potato. People who serve undercooked potatoes should be banished to Siberia, safely away from the rest of society. I’m so glad we have this show to keep us informed of what the real problems in the world are.

  • You don’t really have to Rice your potatoes you can do with your hand beater to whip your face aetos same thing add an egg though definitely it helps to buying the potatoes when you bake them also what you can do and if you don’t have mashed potatoes you can actually use tater tots and potato tots on top of it and bake it the same way you don’t have tater tots and you have those like Ore-Ida fried fried potatoes french fried potatoes put french fried potatoes on it truly cool kids would get a kick out of that. But if you don’t have anything else but hashbrowns put your hat put hash browns on it it all works it’s the same thing hash browns add an egg beat it up binder same thing boom it’s all good trust me I know what I’m talkin about

  • There is always so much salt whatever recipe you watch. I don’t add any salt to food….hate the taste of it and there is already enough salt added to various foods that we eat.

  • Thank you. I made Shepard’s Pie this past Sunday using your recipe and it came out delicious. I also made meat loaf and lasagna using both of your recipes!!! I will always make my tomato sauce from scratch using your recipe from now on. I even use your sauce for my spaghetti!!!! My husband loves it!!!

  • And u don’t add parsley!!!! Shepherds or cottage pie is, onion, carrot, celery. Meat. Covered in mash Potato. Seasoning and some Worcester sauce. No more and no less.

  • If you make it as cottage pie with ground beef, try adding a titch of horseradish to the mashed potatoes—just gives a little something extra that you can’t quiiiiite put your finger on.

  • LOOK’D GOOD!!!! Iv’e never had a shepherd’s Pie,Only Cottage Pie.I was raised on a Cattle Ranch/Farm,by my Grandparents. My Grandmother made the Cottage Pie when I was young, this was one of the many recipes that she passed on to my Wife.My Wife still makes It for Sunday Dinner, Church Pot Lucks or Family Get Together’s.It’s always a Winner, nothing is ever left, she uses Heavy Alum Foil Pans that she can just throw away.

  • What is your thinking of adding 3/4 lbs of each ground lamb and ground beef with some Worcestershire sauce? Do you think this would alter the traditional taste of the shepherds? Hmm, sounds like an investigation. Upon trying, I’ll share. Thank you. Have a BLESSED Day.
