  • People complaining about electricity should know that the oven will take at 200 F at max 1 KW per hour that means it will usr 7 units in 7hours. That will be 90 cents or a dollar in electricity. That is not a big price to pay to speed up the process and also preventing any moulds from coming onto it.

  • You could probably use the sun but it would take a couple days most likely. Risking dirt nd pests getting on your tomatoes. There, get on with your life.

  • Those are oven dried tomatoes! At least your sensual voice, the kind of voice a sexy aunt would have, and you fingering that tomato at 1:03 made it worth a while.

  • I can’t believe how sarcastic some people are, this was a great help, usually you dry tomatoes when you have an over abundance of them. It’s much better than letting them go bad. And a great help later when tomatoes are very expensive. Great in soup, salads, tomato sauce etc. I pack mine in olive oil and sometimes add garlic, you can add whatever you prefer. Thanks a bunch

  • is that 200 degrees Fahrenheit?
I’d like to make them because I don’t want the hard white center and seeds the commercial ones have.

  • 7 hours of oven this is totally insane shes imagening the sun while in the kitchen looking the oven seeing sun in the oven Hahaha

  • How to enhance sun dried tomato yields? Pulsed electric field processing (PEF) is a non-thermal, low-energy technology that can increase extraction yield of sun dried tomato processing plants. PEF treatment of the tomatoes, prior to cutting in halves may complement the drying step by the formation of pores in cell membranes. See Pulsemaster.us

  • I just did this recipe today and man is it so worth it! I originally wanted to do it the traditional way of leaving them out in the sun for about 5 days but we have flies around and I didnt want to bother with building something to house them from the bugs so I did this and man is it good!!! I put them in a jar with olive oil and decided I would toast some bread up and try one or two on it. Oh my. Sooooo good. This is going to be a summer from now on, pick and save as many roma tomatoes as I can and fill up the oven. I sprinkled salt and basil on them before putting them in the oven and they are amazing!

  • These are oven baked tomatoes not sun dried. For sundried you put them on a a tray, remove seeds, cover with rock salt and cover with a net and leave them in sun for about 2 weeks in hot scorching sun. If where you live you dont get a lot of sun a longer time might be needed.

  • The people complaining about lack of sun in this vid are the same people who think that when they buy ”sun dried” tomatoes at the store that they were actually sun dried.

  • so i found this out folks 1. six days drying… then 2. MUST be BOILED in vinegar after etc… see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yTWGjPdj-g

  • Do anyone really believe the sundried tomatoes we buy at the grocery store are actually dried in the sun?

“According to the USDA, few, if any store-bought “sun dried” tomatoes are actually sun dried (but the regulations allow them to call them that!). Anyway, they will taste the same (or better, actually) using an oven or food dehydrator”.

  • hmm does anyone know how to do these PROPERLY? i mean as for the marinade etc??? I’ve NEVER had any good ones in north america but the european ones are to die for 20X stronger flavour!! i was hoping SOMEONE might have an insight into this??? any italian folk here?

  • I use the cooling fan output from my laptop to dry stuff. I make a little “oven” out of 2 egg-box lids and let the hot air blow into the bottom half with the tomatoes, shrooms, basil, etc. on a little grill/mat in the top half. It gets up to about 50ºC in there and it works great! I’ve only dried cherry tomatoes and it takes about 24 hours or so. Larger toms would take a few days, probably.

  • I don’t get it. The title of the video clearly says sun dried. But then she puts them in the oven. This video totally takes time away from people like me who are actually trying to learn how to sun dry tomatoes..
