Reader Spotlight: Learn How Matt Lost 157 Pounds in One Year. By Steve Kamb • Last Updated: July 15, 2010 • 19 comments In this edition of the Nerd Fitness Reader Spotlight, I had to opportunity to interview Matt ( 67Alecto on the NF Message Boards ), a guy who has lost 157 pounds in ONE YEAR. Cormier says, “Jessica is my biggest story, losing 157 pounds over the last two years. She just hit 159 pounds and her goal is 150 pounds so we’re almost there.

It’s rewarding for me to see. Set realistic expectations. With any diet, it’s important to set very realistic expectations and goals. If you want to lose 15 pounds and keep it off long-term, you need to set yourself up for success. In general, it’s never recommended to lose more than 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Although this might sound slow or tedious to you, this type of weight loss has been proven to be the most sustainable. “I had lost 25 pounds from dieting and still wasn’t completely comfortable with my body.   • Thanks for sharing. Idk if I could intermittent fast. My weight loss in the past has happened when I eat 5-6 times a day. 3 small meals and 2-3 snacks. I’m only eating 2 meals. And eating junk/fast food too often.

  • I think I feel like I look better without clothes on. I feel like with clothes on it bunches my fat up and make it show very awkward at times. And without clothes it’s just free and not bunched up piping out in weird spots. I know that may sound weird cause I thought it was at first.   • Hi. I had vsg over 2 years ago and have lost 168 pounds in all. I am a normal BMI and weight but still borderline of overweight, my bmi is 24. I still want to lose only about 10 more pounds. I have been in maintenance for a year and a half. I’m following this way of eating and haven’t gained or lost anything. I pretty much ate healthy anyway, I’m just including more veggies. Anyway do you think my body had reached the point where it wont lose anymore regardless, like its happy place? I know this way of eating works well with obese patients, but if your bmi is normal, will it work to lose more weight or at some point does weight loss stop?

  • Whenever I am dieting, I don’t put dressings on my salads or butter on my potatoes-(I never liked sour cream) vegies with NO or Low butter. I eat “MOSTLY” GOD-made AND not man-made. So I didn’t take any real or whole food out of my diet. I have a huge amount of energy. Of course, these days almost everyone knows not to eat the SAD American diet. The SAD diet shows how intelligent & honest the doctors who put the food pyramid really are. * I concentrate on NO OR LOW sugar, processed foods, trans-fats (i.e. canola -do the research. canola oil made from the rapeseed smells so bad that it is processed with chemicals more than once to get the smell out) * If a factory is putting any form of oil in the foods you eat (ck the labels) remember that they use the cheapest which is transfats unless it specifically states otherwise. ALL highly processed oil is a transfat. // I read the same book -Dr. Furhman is great. The book I read before that was “the Science of Skinny” by: Danielle McCaffrey She has a website called Processed Free America She was a chemist turned nutritionist after seeing the chemicals put into packaged food and she had a weight problem most of her life until she went processed free. PEACE y’all

  • Girl. I have tears in my eyes from this video. I moved three years ago and I have gained so much weight and my cholesterol was high also. I didn’t weigh this much carrying my twins.   • I can’t tell, but did you loose hair? My friend lost 88 pounds in half a year and has lost a lot of hair. She went to see this dietician and isn’t allowed carbs but can eat meat. I think there is something wrong with this ‘diet’. Her skin also got real bad. I’m worried about her.

  • #QUESTION Do you have tips for fridge organization? Since you don’t have butter or gallons of milk..how do you use that extra space? My family is not WFPB so I have those things, PLUS my crisper drawers are overflowing and it’s hard finding ways to store my leftovers for reheating.   • I just finished my oatmeal for breakfast while watching this great video and remembered that it was inspired by you. I mashed the banana into it and topped it with unsweetened soymilk chia and fresh berries. I had never tried mashing the banana into the oats before, but it is a true game changer for me.   • I had VSG at 102kg and am now 80kg 4 months later and now weight loss has really slowed. I am going to start at the gym next week to try to increase my metabolism. I need to lose another 20kg. It’s definitely fustrating. I also love salad and vegetable and don’t like sweets. Even pre op I ate less than my relatives but was much fatter.

  • Im 5’1″ and my dream weight is 125-130 pounds. Im 157 now. The lowest Ive been able to weight in the last 10 years is 132 pounds and with a huge huge sacrifice (almost no eating so thats not good). Im 37 years old. I look good at 140 pounds and feel very comfortable, so thats the maximum I should weight. I guess we all carry weight differently.

I only do two to four per day. I think motivation is my issue…. i gotta do what’s right for me and stop trying to take care of everyone else… i gotta put myself first sometimes!

  • Diet Plan called Custokebon Secrets kept showing up here on a lot of youtube and I thought they were scam. However after my buddy follow it, and finally lost lots of weight with it without starving herself. I’m persuaded. You should not take my own word for it, search for Custokebon Secrets on the google search engine.

  • Yeah, I too am guilty of jumping from weight loss plan to others as well, I think that I must have tried every weight-loss program that was available, however in the end not one of them made it easier for me to shed and keep the weight off. I ended up trying for the very last time using the Custokebon Secrets simply because my friend who told me great things about it and so far to date I’ve successfully dropped 18 pounds within 4 weeks!

  • Disagree. The concept may be oversimplified, but how can you say who is genetically programmed to be this when the rates of obesity have recently risen? The body’s thermostat can be reset just as you said. You don’t have to be genetically lean to apply this concept. The problem becomes when people decrease their calories TOO much and reset their thermostats, or otherwise have life events which cause a decrease in metabolism.

Our weight have been about the same as far as the highest weight but I don’t think I have ever got in the one hundred and fifties rim.   • As I’ve heard you mention on a few of your post, I know you dont exercise(only walks in the parks), nor do you count calories as a rule; However in my personal adventuress momens, I will recreate a recipe (often classic found in world wide cuisine from relatives passed down /religious pre-fast/fast [fluids]/breakfast) or a well known favorites….and turn these recipes into Whole Plant Base Food…as I create (using my Reseaech & Develope background that started in 1964 as a young boy, which was over 56 years ago…working to perfect my grandma & grandpa’s diner in glendale..we worked around the Salad dressing/ Table condiment Sauce/Gravy’s & thickened Flavor-Aid) all healthy,all
    basically a must for the psychy in order to add and increase higher quality’s illcuisine…Heres my question..out habit, do you Pre-write your calories you ingested in a day…in comparison chart…I need to laugh out loud… as there have been so much comparisons to calorie intake…it has become a habit that seems hard to break….
    Personally I fast often in pray, aswell I often will be going along on my Whole Food Base veganism aspects..once in awhile.. out of the habit I am offered a bit of meat, eggs, dairy(pus).. and take a bit of food without realizeing my deed;until, then its too late to have reversed the diet dirt, already…we wow ourselves at dumb moces.

  • Dr what veggies are best consume? I am hungry more frequently now so I eat a lot of Romaine and grape tomatoes. Thinking what else I can add to the mix.

  • My family and I observe the Day of Atonement..
    It’s an High Hold day!!

    We atone for our sins by not eating or drinking anything for 24 hours, starting at sundown..

    This Day is One of the Lords Holy days that is found in the Bible and God commands us to keep his Holy days!

    We don’t do any. type of servile work and the children don’t do any school work.
    We have worship service with our other brothers and sisters in Christ!

    I know that as Christians we are advised to fast and pray on a regular basis.

    No food or liquid.

  • Dr I also watched your video on veggies first then protein. So how much protein should we be getting in a day. Typical stats say 80 grms but what’s your opinion? Would 80 even be feasible when eating so much veggies and fruits? Thanks

  • You look great! Congratulations on your weight loss. I’m on a weight loss journey as well I lost 30 last year but regained 10. During that time, I was helping my mom who was in hospice. My mom passed away in October last year. I think my mom’s passing and the quarantine were the cause. I’m tracking what I eat, I try to eat 1200 calories a day. I’ve been walking my dogs and they have helped me get out of the house and I’m in better spirits. I use fenugreek powder for my hair I’ll try to use in my yogurt. Good luck in the rest of your journey.

  • I totally agree with everything you have said in your videos. I find your method similar to Haylie Pomroy, she is the author of the book “Fast Metabolism Diet”. I am curious to know why this isn’t taught in nutrition classes. I have consulted with many dietitians, and kinesiologists, and they all think it is the simple math of the calories.

  • I had the sleeve in August 2016 and I’m not losing, I stay hungry all day. should I be hungry all the time.Everyone tells me they have to remind there selves to eat, but not me.   • I have heard people say this before, but something about your delivery of this message, has made me understand why eating whole foods is the way to heal myself. I has VSG 3 years ago, lost 100lbs, and have started to regain. This presentation is excellent, because it tells people why they may or may not be seeing the results they want. It’s not a message to just do this because “I said so.” Also, your approach doesn’t feel like an attack on my character. That means the world.

  • I’m not so sure I agree with this, But I’ll never argue against eating unprocessed foods. I do think counting calories is a valid strategy to lose weight though. It is crazy how sometimes you find people that hate natural foods so much that they cry like children when confronted with vegetables.

  • Dr Weiner  I am 5 weeks post op   in Australia  have a sleeve.   Here in Australia they say that we should have 5 veg  2 fruit a day  but with a sleeve its not really possible.   How much should we eat  I have at present only 1 teaspoon of mixed vege and fruit maybe a slice of peach or a small mandarine  is that enough?

  • Dr. Help me understand the sleeve, its either me or my Dr we are not understanding. I had my surgery on 10/8/14 starting. Weight 200lb in one month im at 187 lb.

    I had no restriction whats so ever. I work in corrections and I can easily eat 16oz of chicken, boild eggs, and 2 liters of water. I stoped loosing weight. I see my Dr in two months if I dont see more results I will demand him to to redo my surgery. I allready told him I was not happy with my results. I dont even hurt or have any pain nor disconfort when I eat and I eat fast. What is really going on?

I live in Cyprus and our choice of potatoes are clean or dirty �� they grow them here in the east coast and we have amazing red soil which produces great potatoes. We can get sweet potatoes too and tubs of tiny new ones, imported, but that’s all ��‍♀️ and the local ones are MASSIVE you could get 4 portions from one!
    My daughter is going to Uni in UK this year and couldn’t believe when I told her there are choices she just thought what we had was the definitive potato lol ��

I have to lose 10 kilos. I count calories (2000), a daily deficit, do workouts but why doesn’t that work?

  • I’ve lost 1lb a day for 3 weeks and have lost 22lbs! It’s possible when you’re heavy, doing Keto, eating one meal a day, and exercising in a fasted state burning more than you eat.

  • With the water, you can add some extra apple cider vinegar, don’t add too much. Just a teaspoon. Detoxifying! It makes it soooo much easier
