The Truth About Rice: Brown vs White (Science)

Video taken from the channel: Healthline

Here’s how cooked white rice and brown rice compare: Brown rice has 43 more calories per cup than white rice. Brown rice has 7g more carbohydrates per cup than white rice. Brown rice has more micronutrients: magnesium (79mg vs 19mg), more phosphorus (208mg vs 68gm), and more potassium (174mg vs 55). It also has a lot of manganese, selenium, and copper. Brown rice is generally higher in fiber than white rice.

It typically provides 1 to 3 g more fiber than a comparable amount of white rice. Although fiber. Below are some white rice vs. brown rice nutritional facts—you can decide for yourself.

1. Brown rice has more fiber: Fiber is an important part of a healthy diet, and since brown rice has more fiber per cup than white rice (3.5 grams vs. 0.6 grams, respectively), the win here goes to brown rice. 2.

Brown rice is richer in fiber than white rice—helping you feel full longer—and it’s more nutrient-rich. It’s also a low-glycemic food, meaning. in particular shows that a group of overweight people who ate more brown rice than white were successful in reducing their glucose levels as well as their resistance to insulin. Brown Rice vs White Rice – Conclusion, aka: So, is white rice healthy?

White rice is an easily absorbable form of glucose that is easy to digest, therefore making it a safe starch. I don’t recommend grains of any kind for someone with leaky gut, blood sugar issues or an autoimmune disorder, but for most people white rice is fine. Brown rice is a good source of fiber. While the hull is stripped from white rice, brown rice is an excellent source of fiber, which helps to lower inflammation, improve gut health, and boost.

White rice has a higher glycemic index than brown rice, the researchers say. That index is a measure of how fast a particular food raises blood glucose levels, compared with the same amount of. Common “knowledge” has it that brown rice is good for you and white rice is bad.

After all, white rice, in all its sticky, anemic, high-glycemic awfulness can’t possibly be of benefit to anyone trying to shed fat, increase lean mass or improve their athletic performance. Just looking at a bowl of it makes you flabby. White rice is commonly classified as being the “dirty” “unhealthy” “insulin spiking” rice looked down upon and brown rice is often noted.

Considered a whole grain, brown rice has more fiber and vitamins than white rice, along with a firmer texture and a nuttier, earthier flavor.

Rice-dependent poor societies are vitamin A-deficient because rice is their major source of calories, but does not contain any pro-vitamin A. • Thank you for your video sir. I am new(ish!) to cooking rice and I am experimenting with long grain brown rice at the moment suplementing it with a mixture of vegetables. Perhaps the most important part of your message was to have a balanced diet? Psychologically at least I feel healthy but time will tell!
    Blessings and peace sir

  • Yeah rice is delicious has heck have you ever seen a white rice sauce slice of chicken in potato and also with rice I think it’s only exist in China or Hong Kong KFC

  • This is funny because Dr. Sam Robbins says white rice is better than brown.. who to believe? Who cares, just eat and enjoy both. Life is too short to worry about such silly nonsense.

  • Brown rice is CLEARLY healthier than white rice, and if you see any websites that claim otherwise, stay as far away from those sites as possible!!!

  • Can’t live without white rice. I tried to let go a thousand times but I can’t. Rice complements a dish, any asian would agree that a dish taste so much better with rice

  • My relatives eat rice 2-3x a day, glutinous rice for desserts and lived healthy until almost 100. What they don’t do: restaurants, junk food chips and pop and candies.

  • Good video.
I think probably that Arsenic and anti-nutrients are from pesticides, toxic substances that will kill a small bug but would produce Cancer and diseases in humans, so Big Pharma can sell some more. If you’re interested in a plant-based diet or Veganism: https://linkstothefuture.createaforum.com/general-discussion/live-up-to-20-years-longer-healthy-drug-free-watch-these

  • I’ve eaten white rice all my life, love it. But decided to switch to wholegrain rice to see the difference. I felt alot less bloated and didn’t gain any weight, like I always have on white rice. This is probably why so many south Asians have poor health, because we are raised on white rice. East Asians on the other hand, have alot of vegetables with their white rice, so I think that balances the risks out more, as do their genetics.

  • Before 1985 we Indians used to eat brown rice, but now most of the Indians eating white rice, that’s the reason 80% populations of Indian nowadays having high blood sugar.

  • Hey! Idiots! Eat Organic brown rice. Harvard school of medicine published a study that stated Organic brown rice vs white rice is by far a healthyer food choice.
    Good enough for me. Peace

  • I’m fat but the last 2 months I have only been eating brown rice instead of any other grain and I have lost almost 10 lbs already.

  • verrrrrrry interesting!!! I stopped eating rice for over a year and started up not long ago, I only eat it once in a while and it’ll be white basmati or brown rice, but never knew about sprouting it!

  • Love the science base analysis on both Rices. Just randomly stumbled upon your Channel. Going to check out a few of the videos but most likely, you got yourself a new subscriber here

  • Trying to make videos and only giving a “portion” of the full advice instead of the whole thing is hurting this channel. Most youtubers tell all and then start “selling” advice once they’ve made enough monetary off youtube. just sayin..

  • Thank you so much for this video. My wife got the stupid idea from somewhere that brown rice is just white rice treated to make it fluffy and brown somehow. Hopefully this video will put some sense in her.

  • I eat rice every day; white rice at lunch, and quality brown rice or red rice at dinner. It suits me just fine. I love brown rice. It may be an acquired taste. Luckily, I caught it a long time ago. I exercise 4X a week, don’t smoke, don’t drink, and eat what I know to be a well balanced diet all the time. So far, so good!

  • Nice video but I can’t eat rice of any kind because rice raised my blood glucose to a high level. My advice to you all do NOT eat rice of any kind! Rice has a very high glycemic index it’s around 101!! It will jack up your blood glucose levels and will ultimately CAUSE Diabetes, I know because I ate rice every day and ended up becoming a life-long diabetic!!!

  • I love white rice. But I’m really gaining weight eating this. So I switched to brown rice it’s really good for lose weight. But for my cheat I always eat some white rice.

  • My grandparents ate white rice 3-5 times a day and they died of old age. No cancer, no high blood pressure issues. I’m eating white rice 3-5/day as well for 42 years, my mom 62 and we have no disease at all like cancer, diabetes or blood pressure issues. And yes look at Japan, China, Korea, India, Thailand, Vietnam. The real culprits are refined sugar, processed foods and table salt.

  • I think of all those Asian countries which have had rice as their staple for millennia. Guess what? They consume white rice in the main, not brown. There must be a reason for that. If brown rice were so much healthier, surely that is what they would eat? Oh, and calling your channel “Authority Nutrition” does not make you an authority on anything. I could put up a channel called “Authority Finance” but that doesn’t mean I can do basic arithmetic.

  • I consume a mixture of brown, wild, basmati and red rice. I eat it once or twice a week. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUGFTYpdIDDxXIHsthp8iYg

  • White rice has a soapy, polished taste! Brown rice has a nutty taste! Why ruin rice by making it white anyway, taking all the nutrients out? Go figure!

  • Everybody listen. The reason why you don’t like brown rice is that it is less soft than white rice. Cooking brown rice requires a lot of water and a longer time to make it softer. Thus, it will taste better if it is well cooked.

  • Buy organic Brown rice from good source. Not only Asians but also Americans who have a longevity used to eat whole grain ( brown rice, millets, quinoa, buckwheats etc…), beans, peas, green leafy vegetables, seaweed ( wakame, kelp etc…), small portion of wild caught fish, a little portion of miso, kimchi… This macrobiotic diet will provide us plenty of vitamins, minerals, probiotics, a good source of protein, lipid, and healthy carbohydrates and fibers to prevent many chronic diseases. I myself lost 25 lbs from eating these foods for 8 months and make me feel healthy everyday. I found a good article written by Verne Varona “ Real macrobiotics for cancer prevention and treatment “ good read for anyone looking for a healthy diet and free from chronic diseases.

  • first of all if you want to eat white rice wash the rice cook it and then cool the rice down for 12 hours and reheat when you want to eat it this will make it a resistant starch that is great for weight loss and diabetes.

  • Dr berg, does organic brown rice pre soaked solve the arsenic problem. Ideally using on the days I’m training in the heart rate range, ie out of ketosis, thanks Alan

  • I eat rice all the time. Mostly brown. Haven’t sprouted any of it. I digest it fine. On squat day I know I’m not going to shit myself. Deadlift day is great with plenty of energy. Brown rice syrup for that immediate need. Easy for me to eat 280 to 300 grams a day too. I love rice. Used to hang with a Laos and the mom would make us all a huge bowl of sticky rice balls. So good. I eat chicken and rice because I know what’s going to happen and when. When I eat beef it’s an iffy thing. And by iffy I mean I might go to pull 500 and fart hella bad. I love beef to just chicken and rice is my ish.

  • I’m fat but the last 2 months I have only been eating brown rice instead of any other grain and I have lost almost 10 lbs already.

  • People who dont eat rice usually says brown rice is better, because it has more to it. But people who have been eating rice for their whole life knows white rice is the best. Just imagine cow, pig, and fish. Do you really eat all of them? The answer is yes, but the more you eat, the more you pick only the good parts inside.

  • I’m asian, i been eating rice in my whole life never have a problem eating white rice, plus Everytime i eat white rice i put vegetables and meat to complete the package. Plus brown rice in my country is expensive.

  • When looking at the research, are the test subjects in developing nations? Or are they in areas where the metabolic syndrome is more prominent? Just curious…

  • Thank you for facts and perspective on the nutrition/health/digestion comparison of brown vs. white rice. It gives me more confidence in our family’s choices.

  • Nah I’ll eat brown rice as it releases sugar really slowly compared to white rice. Yh I’m doing intermittent fasting too. So in conclusion i do actually want the acid to hold the grains together during digestion.

  • It’s still shock me just how a number of people do not know about Custokebon Secrets despite the fact that many people using it. Thanks to my pal who told me about it. I’ve lost lots of fat.

  • did dr berg take medical nutrition in school? what he’s saying contradicts the einstein of naturopaths dr wallach the nobel prize nominee curing people by the millions with mega doses of vitamins and minerals including arsenic

  • I feel like I waste my time watching this…. I wanted to know why some known people in the fitness world go for balsamic white rice over brown rice…

  • DO NOT SPORE YOUR RICE.

Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. The spores can survive when rice is cooked.
If rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores can grow
into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins
(poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea.
The longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely
it is that the bacteria or toxins could make the rice unsafe to eat.

  • I am addicted to eating brown rice raw/ uncooked. I have done this for years, but in the past five months, I have gotten worse. I can’t seem to stop. Is eating brown rice raw dangerous? HELP!

  • do you guys know that literally all foods and liquids are bad for you? The only thing that is not bad for you is water! lol so just eat brown rice screw white rice

  • Asian people have been eating white rice for thousands of years but they never encounter diabetes until, the encounter the Western diet meats and Dairies. these are the typical foods of a standard Western diet with meat and Dairy that contribute to all type of Chronicle diseases such as diabetes stroked heart attack and many more. if you listen to what this person is saying you are a fool because when you add that with carbohydrate it’s not carbohydrate that make you fat it’s the fat that makes you fatter.

  • how to make white rice healthy. Wash it 4 times to wash off 70% of the carbohydrates before cooking it. I’m Filipino and I eat white rice three times a day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I’m skinny. I’m 5’11” and I weigh 143 pounds.

  • You can cook brown rice with pressure cooker that has inner pan to make it more digestible.
Okinawan ate brown rice and sweet potato and vegetable.
In Edo period rich samurai started eating white rice because it tastes better while normal people kept eating brown rice. As a result those samurai got disease called beriberi due to lack of vitamin B and many have died.
During war with Russia and China, Japanese soldier were distributed 3000kcl of white rice every day by army. As a result 2 hundred thousand people died from beriberi while only 70 thousand people died by being shot by enemy.
Nothing wrong with white rice, but brown is better statistically.

  • Hey, what about the short grain rice? I love eating Japanese rice and I recently bought haiga rice have you heard of this type of rice?

  • oh please American people! So, what are you saying is 75% of the planet, is not eating the right way. Tell people to eat intelligently. If you eat rice, whatever rice you choose, eat a small amount with lots of veggies, that’s it!

  • I eat a cup of brown rice (along with veggies and chicken) for lunch and I have found (I’ve literally tested this lol) that not only does the brown rice keep me from wanting to nosh in the afternoon, but it also keeps me from hitting the 3 o’clock slump. I have enough energy to keep me going to the end of the workday. Brown rice ftw.

  • verrrrrrry interesting!!! I stopped eating rice for over a year and started up not long ago, I only eat it once in a while and it’ll be white basmati or brown rice, but never knew about sprouting it!

  • Thank you so much it’s very informative and helpful. But do we eat the sprouted rice like we do to bean sprouts in soup and salad or do we still cook it the traditional way?

  • U can get rid of arsenic just by cooking the rice…. we can find arsenic in seafood too..if we follow your advice we’ll end eating nothing but pills

  • Would have been nice if you could have spent an extra minute on precisely how to sprout our rice. Does the container have to be glass and sealed tight? Should it be kept in a cool, not sunny place, or could it be left on your counter top? What signs are we to look for to know that it has completed the transformation? What is the rice-to-water ratio? If your intention was do a separate video on this it would have been worth mentioning, or just telling us to google it on our own, tho I would prefer advice from you that I have grown to trust. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Have a good day.

  • We’re Asian eat white rice daily specially I’m in Cambodia there are nth to do with color brown rice is simply more expensive than white rice. White rice cheaper because the second layer can be food for animals such as pigs

  • how much arsenic the rice has? it is not a justified amount to be concerned about. There are tons of studies that show the dangers of refined grains against the benefits of whole grains. The key to not “die” from arsenic is VARIETY: just dont eat 1 kg of rice per day and you are fine LUL

  • Studies have show that populations that largely eat white rice have a significantly higher rate of diabetes. While white rice may not be a risk factor for CVD itself research has show that easier to digest carbohydrates (i.e. white rice) raise triglycerides higher which itself is recognized as a risk factor for heart disease. It may have anti-nutritional factors but populations that eat brown rice vs white rice are usually much healthier so it may not affect the nutritional benefits that much. You mention arsenic, which everyone sees as bad, but fail to mention that the studies you cite mention both organic and inorganic arsenic. Organic arsenic is relatively safe. It’s the inorganic arsenic that’s really bad. Plus most of these studies site a few dozen people at most as part of the study and most site further research is needed. Pretty sad that people will follow this video without looking into things themselves.

  • Eating brown rice could be good for you if fermented. Otherwise white rice is healthier. Overall brown rice being healthier is all a myth at best. The only people who believe in brown rice is in the US etc where it is not eaten much. However Asia has 2 to 3 billion people who eat white rice 3 times a day and have few to no health problems. The last trip I made to the Philippines I heard of a case of a few getting Alzheimer’s (the first time I have heard of someone having Alzheimer’s there). I was told those people got books promoting brown rice etc. And followed it. Actually brown rice is brown because it is older than 4 or 5 months old (been stored in silos). In Asia when rice is harvested white rice is white. It only turns brown if it is stored long term. But the people eat the rice fresh instead. Asians will not eat brown rice, and if you want good health you want either. Asians are not fat, and Asians don’t have constipation problems. Constipation is caused by a lack of exercise and a lack of vegetables.

  • 2:27? Countries with some of the lowest cancer rates have rice as a main staple of peoples diet, ex Japan, India, Mongolia, Malaysia, etc

  • soooo I eat like 40 grams of fiber a day any more and I will bloat like crazy,
I still need those 3800 calories so i am eating 350 grams of white rice to meet that a day. Overall 464 grams of carbs, 180 grams of protein and 125 grams of fat.

    Is that healthy?

  • I grew up with fish and potatos and I ll stay with fish and potstos.. Bury me with it.. I would wage wsr again rice if I could XD

  • Not a Draw” I’m in Japan, I will go for white and its everywhere and seems to be OK” and it goes good with my after workout meal to speed up my protein uptake before bed”

  • I wouldn’t call it a draw, it’s obvious brown rice has more benefits unlike white rice that just gets you fat, plus brown rice makes you feel fuller

  • Basmati rice from india and pakistan are suppose to contain the least amount of arsenic for some reason.

Also Basmati is almost on par in the GI-index compared to brown rice.

  • As someone who grew up being an Asian and eating white rice every single day, I gotta be honest, white rice taste way better. And yeah, I have to cut rice out of my diet because it contains too much carb (or because me eating a huge portion of it).

  • How is it a draw? If brown rice contains an anti nutrient then it loses automatically and should be avoided like the plague. there’s no way in hell I’m going to suffer my zinc and magnesium levels while also hurting my protein adsorption

  • Three questions
Why brown rice is more expensive, if it is less processed/polished?
Arsenic occurs in water basins in North & East India, where maximum rice cultivation is done. So how Arsenic free will be a packaged brown rice bought from Super Market or renowned brands?
Any country is having any brown rice preferential policy?

  • Great video!

The potato might be my favourite carb source, it’s local, it’s so tasty and there are so many options.

But I must say there’s nothing I like more than freshly cooked, white rice. The pure white colour, the stickyness, the taste and the way it absorbs sauce. Just the pure colour alone makes me adore it.

  • White rice stripped of its bran becomes a simple carbohydrate, and spikes blood sugar. Fiber is a digestive system regulator.

Polished white rice has low fiber content, a high glycemic index, and a poor micronutrient profile. If consumed in excess, polished rice increases risk of diabetes and reduces glycemic control among individuals with diabetes.

Decoding the Type 2 Diabetes Epidemic in Rural India

Refined carbohydrates, such as white rice and white flour, are the mainstay of the modern Asian Indian diet, and may contribute to the rising incidence of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in this population.
…. if one serving of white rice is replaced with quinoa, the amount of carbohydrate decreases by 17.5 grams and protein increases by 7.3 grams. This carbohydrate substitution would serve to subtly shift the daily macronutrient balance to the recommended levels without conscious avoidance of carbohydrate or supplementation of protein in the diet.

  • You really want to lose weight and keep it off. Stop eating out. Eat organic. Stop buying processed food. Stop drinking milk, yogart and butter. Buy grass fed and finished butter. Grass fed and finished beef. Buy organic veggies they are not sprayed with Monsanto Weed Killer. Organic fruit. But cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and extra virgin coconut oil. No other processed oils that clog arteries. Buy einkorn flour no processed flour. All my craving stopped no more depression no more breakouts. No more hard bowel movements. I never felt better in my life. I was not trying to lose weight but slowly started losing excess body fat as a by product of eating right now i do not miss eating out at all. And the food has so much flavor. Hamburger tasts like hamburger. Veg have flavor. Fruit is sweet. Stop buying food that is made to kill you off early. Diets do not work. This is a life style that works. No tying of stomach. Brown rice is healther.

  • no asian or indian doesn’t eat white rice alone..we indians eat rice with variety of veg and pulses which has all kind of nutritions so it’s just a myth that white rice causes weight and rise sugar levels… eat whatever available in ur locality don’t listen to so called experts who are actually promote their products

  • I’m disappointed there was no mention of the cyanide trace elements found in most brands imported from PRC or South East Asian countries

  • I prefer brown rice. I am a type one diabetic and white rice in any form shoots my numbers to the sky. However I do mix it with healthy protein and VEGETABLES. I thank you for sharing your information. I always love to learn new things. Thank you very much.

  • Cos rice is delicious when you add flavours if you add vegetable meet an tomato sauce still making delicious any source will work in any meat

  • From this video, it is said that arsenic in rice can be detected by formation of white line on nail. Is it not due to zinc deficiency??

  • People from the Caribbean/West Indies, Asians from India all the way to the Philippines etc, areas of Africa all eat white rice. You don’t see alot of over weight people.

  • Brown rice is full of protein and nutrition, I have half a cup of cooked brown rice with my meals, it’s still keto! Please don’t listen to this rubbish

• Before 1985 we Indians used to eat brown rice, but now most of the Indians eating white rice, that’s the reason 80% populations of Indian nowadays having high blood sugar.

  • There’s nothing wrong with white rice as long as it’s portioned correctly with some fiber filled veggies and a healthy protein source. The rice should only take up 1/4 of your plate or 1/3 at most, unless you’re extremely active and need the carbs. The biggest problem most cultures have is that they fill the entire plate with rice and put a few bits of protein on top with minimal or no veggies at all. You should be portioning your plate as follows;

20%-25% = Starchy Carbs (Rice, Potato, Pasta, Bread etc…)
    40% = Fiberous Carbs (Vegetables)
35%-40% = Healthy Proteins and Fats (Meat, Fish, Eggs, Tofu etc…)

You can then adjust depending on your activity level and goals. However, this should be the baseline especially if your goal is to lose weight.

  • KETO is not eating rice is not having sweets at all is

Listen to me, if you’re desperately trying to find something that makes you lose weight or to see what to eat etc. Take a deep breath and just think about this. Why would you waste your god damn life stressing about food, FOOD IS GOOD! ENJOY IT, sometimes you eat too much, yes, totally fine and it’s okay. Next time you eat too much again, it’s still okay. If you want to make some changes with your eating habits.. Eat more healthy but don’t be so harsh on yourself. If you want to have chocolate and chips, eat it. You need to find your own personal balance with your life and how you, YOU can make it through and make better choices and it will not happen over night. I know this myself.
And when you finally find this place in your head where you can say,.. I feel like having sweets but i know I should eat something what is not unhealthy and then it doesn’t bother you anymore for not having sweets that much like it did in the beginning.

Just saying, you are going to be okay say No to stress

  • ANYTHING NATURAL THAT IS NOT TAMPERED WITH MACHINE AN INVENTION WHICH MAN MADE, IS 100% HEALTHY AND NUTRITIOUS, ENOUGH WITH THIS PHYTIC ACID PROBLEMS, THERES NO SUCH EVIDENCE THAT PHYTIC ACID CAN CAUSE MINERAL DEFICENCIES, SHOW ME ONE? • Eat everything in moderation, while eating sit comfortably, relax feel the food what you are eating, chew it properly. You will be healthy. Cheers

  • Brown rice is straight up disgusting and can cause allergic reactions such as rash which i often get when i eat the stuff. i mean i can eat brown rice but if i eat it a few days straight in a row, i start getting rash. With that said white rice all the way. It tastes better and u wont get allergic reactions if u eat it everyday. If you’re in athletic shape and do strenuous workouts then white rice is recommended for carbs. White rice is also very versatile. You can have it with: eggs, stir fry beef, chicken, or shrimp with veggies, salmon, beans, turkey meatballs with ranch, siracha hot sauce and parmesan cheese on top of it all, chicken nuggets, canned chili, canned tuna/sardines, curries, stews, and soups. Make sure you have siracha hot sauce and soy sauce if you’re going to eat white rice. If you’re taking the healthy approach, what the heck are you going to have with your stir fried chicken breast with veggies? bread? tortillas? corn on the cob? biscuts? lol. white rice all the way for health, taste and the variety of foods that you can eat it with.

  • Aren’t Asian populations generally thriving on rice? I’m not so sure about my new keto diet after seeing this, sounds somewhat fanatical…

  • I may start having some white rice pre and post workout and eat low carb the rest of the day. My job is physical and it is hard doing high rep squats on a low carb diet

  • Plz make a video on how to slowly come out of keto diet into carb diet so that the lost weight doesn’t come back. Also please make a video on eating millets instead of white rice/ brown rice.

  • Thank you for facts and perspective on the nutrition/health/digestion comparison of brown vs. white rice. It gives me more confidence in our family’s choices.

  • U can get rid of arsenic just by cooking the rice…. we can find arsenic in seafood too..if we follow your advice we’ll end eating nothing but pills

  • Soak rice overnight and rinse it well. There’s so much new noise about rice over the Internet and most of it is over the top. Eat it in small quantities and don’t eat it everyday. That goes for most foods though. There are MANY healthy foods that contains toxics. No food is 100% good for you.

  • Brown rice takes much longer to digest, hence you will feel fuller for longer and won’t eat as much. Perfect for weight loss. Just be sure that you rinse rice at least 2 times before cooking.

  • Aren’t Asian populations generally thriving on rice? I’m not so sure about my new keto diet after seeing this, sounds somewhat fanatical…

  • I guess rice from bad agriculture has arsenic. Veggies have pesticide, fish have heavy metals… So everything’s bad? What about arsenic-free (organic) rice?

  • This is funny because Dr. Sam Robbins says white rice is better than brown.. who to believe? Who cares, just eat and enjoy both. Life is too short to worry about such silly nonsense.

  • Prewash and presoak the brown rice overnight before cooking with a pinch of salt ( not salting it ). Secondly, CHEW the grain really good before swallowing. It has a mild sweet taste to it. If you choose to eat it. Just sharing own experience . How to cook? Wash, soak it overnight with the required amount of water. Pinch of salt, cover and leave it overnight before cooking. 2). Quick boiling, then turn flame to low for 50 mins. Covered without opening (Keep pressure/heat in). Done, fluff it. Yum… Try it. Eat in very moderation if you choose.

  • Dr. Berg; What can you tell us about starch retrogression? Should this be a positive consideration when deciding to consume rice? Does it matter if you eat freshly cooked rice or rice at room temperature?

  • Most if not all my carbs come from Vegetables/Avocado/Almonds but a large portion of my food contain no carbs. However, I lose tremendous strength and muscle size when I cut out carbs completely. What I started implementing is low to zero carbs During the week and Sat or Sun Carb up to fill my muscles out.

  • Could you please review “two types of rice popular in Japan — half-milled (Haigamai) rice or incompletely-milled (Kinmemai) rice.” Would this be a healthier choices?

  • It’s still shock me just how a number of people do not know about Custokebon Secrets despite the fact that many people using it. Thanks to my pal who told me about it. I’ve lost lots of fat.

  • I’m alway eat rice with chicken and beef and vegetables and work out and I’m lean like Bruce lee lol just don’t drink soda and do not eat junk food

  • All rice is converted to SUGAR in the body, invokes an insulin response, and is stored as long chain triglycerides. That is why you are hungry soon after eating rice, wheat, or potatoes. ✔️

  • I’m losing weight right now and doing well. 21 pounds so far, 50 more to go. Losing 2-3 pounds per week. My favorite Thai restaurant makes a white rice, tons of shrimp, not fried shrimp and some veggies. Can I eat that because I miss it very much?

  • Hi doctor been a little while since we spoke however hopefully all has been well. Anyways I have a question for you; Besides sweet potatoes of getting that for your good type of carbs, what about the wasa rye crispbread? I believe in which its made only from rye flour and doesnt even contain any wheat and which it is a product of sweden. So do you think that makes it another good choice for the good type of carbs as well?

  • great video,it makes sence and i think its true,im sticking to brown rice cause the way the body brakes it down,i dont exactly is stopping me from burn that low bally fat,im 35 i train like a beast im fit but its just those handles, any advice

  • Uh, this guy has no idea what insoluble and soluble fiber is. Brown rice has fiber in it that the body doesn’t digest, it absorbs water and moves through your digestion system in a different way. White rice contains less fiber and you end up eating triple the starch. That’s why eating a lot of brown rice doesn’t make you fat, your body doesn’t digest all of the calories within the rice. You are essentially absorbing what you need only as well as increasing your bowel movements. White rice stores as body fat when you eat the same amount because of the lack of fiber. You are eating more starch… so it stores some as body fat. How come these youtube retards can’t just do a little research on simple things like this? This guy is a joke, do not eat white rice at all if you need to lose weight. It raises your blood sugar too high, while brown rice doesn’t do that. There’s a reason for that… which is what I stated at the beginning of this rant. On the flip side, DO EAT WHITE RICE IF…. you have a fast metabolism and are very active. In this case, it’s a great carb. Fat people should eat only whole grain carbs. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS FUCK TARD. I have actual experience testing out diets… so there you have it.

  • I agree with you. I started a keto diet and lost 10kg in 2 months. Then there were weight loss stagnation in the beginning of month 3. Out of frustration l ate white rice and. Out of my expectations, my weight loss actually started to come down again. I eat white rice on ‘cheat day’ about once a week. But I only eat twice a day.

  • Why would anyone listen to a gym rat vs medical experts. The guy is an idiot. If you asked him any questions about what he’s talking about I doubt her he able to answer.
Keep in mind If the guy was obese we probably wouldn’t believe him and he knows it. (No reference citations a Gym rat trying to act
    smart)
The fact is Processed grains (wheat rice etc) are a major factor causing diabetes.
White rice has no nutrients left unless its fortified artificially.

  • Yeah…well…so brown rice is very difficult to digest but because of its GABA content is a good choice for quality sleep, even the digestion is worst when sleeping. BS!

  • Prewash and presoak the brown rice overnight before cooking with a pinch of salt ( not salting it ). Secondly, CHEW the grain really good before swallowing. It has a mild sweet taste to it.

  • Brown rice is full of protein and nutrition, I have half a cup of cooked brown rice with my meals, it’s still keto! Please don’t listen to this rubbish

  • we Asians have another type of rice which can substitute for white/brown rice. watch this video to have healthy life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDBGRK_CrOw

  • Brown rice is CLEARLY healthier than white rice, and if you see any websites that claim otherwise, stay as far away from those sites as possible!!!

  • Not a Draw” I’m in Japan, I will go for white and its everywhere and seems to be OK” and it goes good with my after workout meal to speed up my protein uptake before bed”

  • Hey! Idiots! Eat Organic brown rice. Harvard school of medicine published a study that stated Organic brown rice vs white rice is by far a healthyer food choice.
    Good enough for me. Peace

  • Call me crazy, but if it’s in your genetics to be digesting white rice— eat white.
If it’s in your genetics to be eating brown rice— eat brown.

  • Dr Berg: I was watching a video which says that consuming carbs such as white or brown rice with proteins and fibre at night before sleeping activates leptin which helps fat-burning

  • When looking at the research, are the test subjects in developing nations? Or are they in areas where the metabolic syndrome is more prominent? Just curious…

  • Am I nuts to expect nutrition experts to include a discussion of sprouted brown rice when discussing the pros and cons of rice consumption? To me, it’s like discussing the health consequences of consuming grain-fed beef, while ignoring the benefits of grass-fed beef consumption. I think I prefer no story at all to a misleading half story.

  • I really love to do low card diet.. but when i do that and i out rice in my diet my body become weak and look like skeleton.. so that i think i need rice. Even some only..

  • first of all if you want to eat white rice wash the rice cook it and then cool the rice down for 12 hours and reheat when you want to eat it this will make it a resistant starch that is great for weight loss and diabetes.

  • Listen I eat white rice everyday, most people from my native land eat brown rice but, most of them are overweight. And I am still on the skinny side it all about portion control.

  • Dr berg, does organic brown rice pre soaked solve the arsenic problem. Ideally using on the days I’m training in the heart rate range, ie out of ketosis, thanks Alan

  • I’m asian, i been eating rice in my whole life never have a problem eating white rice, plus Everytime i eat white rice i put vegetables and meat to complete the package. Plus brown rice in my country is expensive.

  • Parboiled rice the yellowish rice, low starch, great. I eat it all day.
Is it good for my ketogenic diet? Combined withe the veggies

  • Thanks for this wonderful guidance.
Would you allow/recommend WHITE RICE to me IF?
    1. My BMI is 18 and I am not trying to lose any weight
    2. White rice does not contain arsenic
    3. White rice does not contain phytates and I can consume IB6 supplement
    4. If I take White rice with Nutritional yeast (for B vitamins)
Please guide me if white rice is OK to consume is specifically my case.
    Thanks.

  • Here in my country, you can’t said you already have a breakfast, lunch or dinner without eating rice, even you eat a whole tart, or anything.

  • My great grand parents and grand parents lived until their mid late 90’s and meat and potatoes for dinner every single night. No rice. I’ll stick with potatoes.

  • Hey, what about the short grain rice? I love eating Japanese rice and I recently bought haiga rice have you heard of this type of rice?

  • As someone who grew up being an Asian and eating white rice every single day, I gotta be honest, white rice taste way better. And yeah, I have to cut rice out of my diet because it contains too much carb (or because me eating a huge portion of it).

  • being a type 2 diabetic ive been bombarded with info saying I shouldnt eat white rice… brown rice tastes worse white rice tastes awesome…

  • Thank you so much it’s very informative and helpful. But do we eat the sprouted rice like we do to bean sprouts in soup and salad or do we still cook it the traditional way?

  • I cant eat chicken without rice, I dont know how people can eat it without. It doesnt make me full and I feel sick if I don’t eat rice. I NEED RICE.

  • So you’re going to tell all these bodybuilders that are 10x more healthier than you that the rice they are eating is not good because..keto? Okie doke doc

  • I wouldn’t call it a draw, it’s obvious brown rice has more benefits unlike white rice that just gets you fat, plus brown rice makes you feel fuller

  • Basmati rice from india and pakistan are suppose to contain the least amount of arsenic for some reason.

Also Basmati is almost on par in the GI-index compared to brown rice.

  • oh please American people! So, what are you saying is 75% of the planet, is not eating the right way. Tell people to eat intelligently. If you eat rice, whatever rice you choose, eat a small amount with lots of veggies, that’s it!

  • How is it a draw? If brown rice contains an anti nutrient then it loses automatically and should be avoided like the plague. there’s no way in hell I’m going to suffer my zinc and magnesium levels while also hurting my protein adsorption

  • Im doing intermittent fasting, working out, just wanna know if i cant eat small portions of rice with steamed broccoli and chicken breast, without messing up my ketosis, and not have my glucose levels spike.

  • Love the science base analysis on both Rices. Just randomly stumbled upon your Channel. Going to check out a few of the videos but most likely, you got yourself a new subscriber here

• Here in my country, you can’t said you already have a breakfast, lunch or dinner without eating rice, even you eat a whole tart, or anything.

  • Can’t live without white rice. I tried to let go a thousand times but I can’t. Rice complements a dish, any asian would agree that a dish taste so much better with rice

Please guide me if white rice is OK to consume is specifically my case.
    Thanks.

  • the chinese/asians have been eating rice for generation and they have no problem in what you preaching…and another thing I’ve noticed is that Asians lived longer thn any race in the world.

  • how much arsenic the rice has? it is not a justified amount to be concerned about. There are tons of studies that show the dangers of refined grains against the benefits of whole grains. The key to not “die” from arsenic is VARIETY: just dont eat 1 kg of rice per day and you are fine LUL

  • Nah I’ll eat brown rice as it releases sugar really slowly compared to white rice. Yh I’m doing intermittent fasting too. So in conclusion i do actually want the acid to hold the grains together during digestion.

  • All rice is converted to SUGAR in the body, invokes an insulin response, and is stored as long chain triglycerides. That is why you are hungry soon after eating rice, wheat, or potatoes. ✔️

  • From this video, it is said that arsenic in rice can be detected by formation of white line on nail. Is it not due to zinc deficiency??

  • I guess rice from bad agriculture has arsenic. Veggies have pesticide, fish have heavy metals… So everything’s bad? What about arsenic-free (organic) rice?

  • Trying to make videos and only giving a “portion” of the full advice instead of the whole thing is hurting this channel. Most youtubers tell all and then start “selling” advice once they’ve made enough monetary off youtube. just sayin..

  • i just like doing decent body weight exercises throughout the day 4-6 times… so its like i never have belly fat.
someday s i intermediate fast too

  • Hi doctor been a little while since we spoke however hopefully all has been well. Anyways I have a question for you; Besides sweet potatoes of getting that for your good type of carbs, what about the wasa rye crispbread? I believe in which its made only from rye flour and doesnt even contain any wheat and which it is a product of sweden. So do you think that makes it another good choice for the good type of carbs as well?

  • Sweet potato is actually a super food, normal potato is toxic.
