In fact, these studies have found that replacing sugar-sweetened drinks with diet soda can result in weight loss (18, 19). One study had overweight participants drink 24 ounces (710 mL) of diet. Although people who drank both sugar-sweetened and diet sodas gained weight, diet soda drinkers were more likely to become obese.

And the more diet. Can drinking one Diet Coke a day be bad for you if you’re trying to lose weight because of its artificial sweeteners? Diet drinks are advertised as a. If you’re trying to lose weight, soda is not your best beverage choice. Regular soda is high in sugar and calories and studies show that diet soda might not be great to gulp down either, despite the fact that it has 0 calories.

Skip The Regular Soda. But diet soda isn’t a health drink or a silver bullet for weight loss. Although switching from regular soda to diet soda may save you calories, it’s not yet clear if it’s effective for preventing obesity and related health problems in the long term. Healthier low-calorie choices abound, including water, skim milk, and unsweetened tea or coffee.

Diet sodas have zero calories. So it seems logical that replacing one with the other should help you lose weight, or at least stay the same weight. This causes havoc on the whole digestion process. You may notice bloating but what you don’t see is more serious. The bad bacteria being fed makes you extract more calories from the food you eat and store it as fat.

But according to new research, guzzling light sodas like Diet Coke won’t stop you getting fat. Ditching your favourite fizzy drink for its seemingly innocent sugar-free sister is no better for preventing weight gain – and it could also harm the environment.

  • 1:47 The answer is she learned “NOTHING.” Other than the fact that she doesn’t like the taste now after 4 months without it. Your welcome for the time savings.

  • FINALLY someone understands when I say, “I can not eat certain foods w/o a DIET COKE!!!!” I truly enjoy the way the fizz burn my chest!!! Insane I know, but it’s the truth. I do not drink it for the caffeine. I drink Caffeine Free. I need a replacement!! I can NOT drink water w/ my food!!! I do not like fruit juice, it makes my kidneys hurt ASAP!!! lol What did you replace it with?

  • You didn’t learn anything wtf lol just that it tasted like chemicals. Lol I was expecting something great to happen to your life smh

  • Bacon and eggs toast and peanut butter with a diet coke. That was a great breakfast. No desire to drink DC anymore. I quit drinking alcohol and for some reason the urge for DC quit. Odd

  • Sometimes I honestly wish I had a traumatic experience with soda, like maybe I found a spider in my soda and it crawled down my throat and I never felt the urge to drink soda again because no matter what I do I always find myself coming back to soda, it doesn’t help that my mom constantly buys soda and my grandma always has shit in her house, I have to walk there after school everyday. If I ever have a kid I know for a fact that I’m gonna try my best to supply him with healthy foods so he won’t have to worry about weight loss like me

  • The simple reason why most people should avoid diet sodas (in fact most diet version of anything) is that it damn nearly always means more none natural chemicals.

For example coca cola has way more chemicals than you’d think. A diet one will have more because they need to find a replacement for the sugar and sweet taste of it. For example corn syrup is now standard in the US (tastes way worse) and is WAY worse for you.

To sum it up, if you are going to have a soda, buy the one with sugar. Just dont drink much of it.

  • Sometimes I like to put something with artificial sweeteners in my bottled water. I used to drink like 4 or 5 of them each day now I just drink like 1 or 2 every other day and I’m starting to drink more clear water. When I go to a fast food restaurant sometimes I get normal Coke or Sprite.

  • ok, i admit, ive been drinking at least one diet pepsi (more like 2-3) everyday for the last 20 years, im 36 yo, i will give up diet pepsi only if I can be in a relationship with someone as sexy as you.:-)

  • Have you ever asked you husband how he feels about sharing his diet coke? Lol. Oh and one other thing, i was addicted to regular coke a cola, then found out i was border line diabetic, so i switched to diet coke, after a while i just kind stopped drinking diet coke every day and switched to coffe with creamer only. Not the sweet creamer but the powered kind. I have been feeling 10 times better ever since i quit soda altogether. I only have about 3 diet sodas a week at the very very most. And one regular soda every 2 to 3 weeks at the very most. Ok so i have not quit, just slowed way down! But am feeling a lot better! Thank you free coffee at work!!!

  • You didn’t learn anything wtf lol just that it tasted like chemicals. Lol I was expecting something great to happen to your life smh

  • It has been a week now without it and I have been getting headaches not sure if is related but I am hoping to stop completely and only drink water as a beverage plus some stur water enhancers here and there. I know what you mean about missing it on those sushi and pizza days, I am going to miss it same.

  • Omg thats bull! Diet soda doesn’t cause weight gain. You know how I know? I lost over 200 pounds drinking Coke Zero! So don’t panic. Enjoy a diet soda. Just don’t over do it.

  • I used to be a regular pop addict, like mostly Dr. Pepper and sometimes Pepsi, but since I’ve stopped drinking pop, I just can’t anymore at all. One can would hurt my stomach too much because it’s no longer ok with carbonation. Better for my teeth though so… I just switched over to tea. ^_^ I love tea so much and it has the caffeine that I need. That and if you make it loose leaf, you can make it super strong too. Like if my tea doesn’t wake you up, nothing will you’re already dead.

  • here’s a few ideas for stopping drinking at home
Try to eat food when you are drinking this cuts down the amount you drink.
    Take a break from alcohol.
Make a note of how much you drink, then you know if you are cutting down.
Set yourself goals don’t make them too hard at first.
Pick 1 or 2 days or each week when you will not drink at all. Next, try to stop drinking for one week per month.

  • I ordered a new scale and freaked out when I realized how much I’ve gained in recent years. My healthy weight is about 109-120 for my 5’2 frame Now I don’t eat that badly I take in about 1100-1400 calories a day and am moderately active. I don’t eat a lot of sweets and junk food, Yet the scale said I was 156 pounds, that’s crazy!! That may not be much for most people but I had always been tiny petite with a small waist. What happened? I had gained 10 pounds from this time last year and hadn’t done anything different… other than… MY DIET COKE/PEPSI HABIT I was up all night doing research and realized that the chemicals in diet soft drinks guarantee obesity 8-10 years down the line from the time you start… if consumed regularly. Diet sodas also deplete calcium from bones, increase the risk for heart disease, cancer and stroke. This stuff is bad news. But the good news: I QUIT COLD TURKEY. I drink only spring water and black tea with honey. It’s been only five days and I’ve dropped 4 pounds. To anyone reading this, please give this a shot. You can do it.

  • I am so hooked on Diet Coke I’m trying to get fit and lose my DadBod and I’m running lots but quitting Diet Coke is definitely my next step I have cut down but I really need to go cold turkey Thanks for the video and inspiration

  • The scariest part is that it tricks your body you’re ingesting a sweet feast. Then it preps itself to receive the meal and there’s actually nothing there?!! Keep screwing with your body and it’ll jack you up! I’m 36, give it 20 more years and I’m scared to see what life will be like for all the diet coke drinkers! I’ve been off it for 5 days, got my handy rubber band to flip my wrist every sip it take. Committed to not drinking now that I have learned the truth!

  • There are probably things about you that returned to a more normal, functioning state. I’m sure you’ve seen all the videos on youtube talking about the harmful impacts of diet sodas. Personally I’m less tired. Was a moderate drinker for a very long time but now I’m off soda. Was a moderate drinker since a teen.

  • I never really got into Diet Coke but I’m trying to really cut back on soda. I drink tea now with 2 sweet and lows in it and will only drink soda when I’m out with my fiancee which isn’t often which is now a good thing for that one instance. Wish me luck everyone.

  • I just quit drinking diet soda three days ago and I’m dieing inside. I feel the same way about having a soda with food omg!! Also Im a chef at a restaurant and I used to drink diet soda there though out the night. That made work so much better. Now I go into work and just think to myself, I can’t drink it. Help me please lol.

  • Usually, the first sign to appear is that one loses the ability to pause between sentences when speaking. Recent research has shown this to have rapidly grown into becoming a pandemic problem.

  • It was hard to quit for me because I didn’t know what is more refreshing than Diet Pepsi because of my very gross dry mouth problem I have in the mornings Diet Pepsi is a cure sadly it became an addiction.
I remember when I had like 4 or more a day because of that great refreshing taste.
I quit Diet Pepsi because it hurt inside.
I’m glad I started drinking Iced Coffee Mocha in the morning to deal with the dry mouth.

  • Doing a study with overweight people is just silly if all the overweight people wear blue jeans then you can easily say bluejeans can cause every single thing he just said about diet soda where’s the science? Why don’t they test healthy active people that drink diet soda that would be a much better test of its effects.

  • I’m literally drinking around 1 liter of Diet Soda everyday. Nothing have happened to me for over 2 years. I’m even extremely underweight. People need to stop trusting everything they see on the internet…

  • Diet soda helps me lose weight. I keep on track with my calorie goal and diet soda is a nice treat I can have instead of cake or something. I think it only causes weight gain in most people because they use it as an excuse to eat more.

  • I suffered from an additicion to Coke and Diet Coke for many years. I tried multiple times to give up but would get such bad withdrawal symptoms that I always caved in. In June 2018 I underwent surgery there were complications and I spent a total of 12 days in hospital and had to have a second surgery. One perk of this is that it broke my additicion because coke was not available to me and I had to drink water. Since coming home I’ve not slipped into my old habits and I have no intention of doing so. I enjoy the occasional diet coke but my main drink that I consume is water.

  • Don’t entirely agree with this video. For one, I’m living the question as we speak. I used to be real bad on how many soft drinks I consumed daily. I’m talking upwards of 10 Dr Peppers or more a day. About little over a month ago I decided to make a change. While I’m not grossly obese, I definitely needed to loose some weight. I do fortunately have a job that keeps me pretty active through out the day. A lot of manual labor type work and sweating keeps me from getting to out of control weight wise. I haven’t had any regular Dr. Peppers now for over a month. I do however drink Diet Dr Pepper or Dr Pepper 10. I have lost a good 15 to 20 pounds since quitting. Now this may not all be contributed to quitting soft drinks alone. I also stopped eating desserts every meal. And what “sweets” I do eat are now always sugar free ones. Now after researching the soft drink vs Diet soft drink debate, I had heard one of the main concerns with drinking diet soft drinks is that it would make you eat more unhealthy to make up for the sugarless drinks. But if you have the will to resist compensating, then this concern seems pretty moot. My goal is to work towards no more soft drinks period. But that is in the works. A tough road to travel considering my past. I just don’t know what to substitute it with. I can’t stand just drinking water. Tea is not much better than soft drinks unless you drink it with no sweetener. Something I just can’t do. Fruit juices are expensive and have their own issues. So im trying to figure that out I guess.

  • I feel like this video is misinformative. The video states that people who drink diet coke gain weight because it prompts them to ingest higher caloric food. But what about the people who resist the urges to eat unhealthy foods? What if they’re just having diet coke and a salad? How does diet coke affect that person?

  • I just tried Diet Coke today and it was so f ing disgusting! It made me sick I spat it back out right away! I like regular Coke a lot better! To all the people who like Diet Coke I respect your opinion

  • Diet Soda
    The Good
Some prefer diet soda because it fails to leave the residue on their teeth that regular soda does. This is because diet soda gets its flavoring from artificial sweeteners, not natural sugar. Bacteria in the mouth, also known as plaque, need sugar to grow, so diet soda isn’t going to be directly contributing to any new cavities in that lovely white smile of yours. However, this doesn’t mean that your dentist is likely to recommend you drink a can of diet soda a day to maintain a healthy mouth. Diet soda may not contain sugar, but it does have acid, and over time this acid can strip the enamel from your teeth and leave them more vulnerable to cavities from other sugary foods and drinks you may consume.

    The Bad
Although the calorie-free aspect of diet soda may sound enticing to those trying to maintain a healthy weight, don’t be fooled. It has been suggested that diet soda actually contributes to weight gain, not weight loss. “Artificial sweeteners found in diet sodas have been found to increase sugar cravings because it’s not a natural source of sugar and the brain continues to seek the real deal,” Marissa Puleo, a registered licensed dietitian explained to Medical Daily. “This can lead to increased eating and drinking because your body isn’t satisfied.” One study even suggested that along with increasing desire for fattening foods, the artificial flavoring in diet soda actually interfered with the natural bacteria in our guts, making us less tolerant of glucose.

    The Ugly
One study from the University of Miami revealed an even scarier effect of diet soda when they correlated the beverage’s consumption to increased risk of heart attack and stroke. In the study, 2,465 participants were asked to document what beverages they drink and how often they drink them. The participants were followed for nine years, and results found those who drank diet soda were 48 percent more likely to have a heart attack or stroke when compared to those who rarely drank any soda. Although the researchers emphasized that their findings do not prove diet soda had caused the participants’ heart problems, it does add to a plethora of studies documenting both regular and diet soda’s effect on our most important organ.

  • I read plenty of good reviews on the internet about how Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google) can assist you lost lots of weight. Has any one tried using this popular diet plan?

  • The problem for me is that if I have just one Diet Coke then I end up getting like 5 since it makes me crave more of it and I know it’s 0 calories and i love the taste. I never end up eating more because I always have counted calories but I do think it makes you more hungry especially if it’s the caffeine free stuff. I say that because caffeine can curb some people’s appetite.

  • Wait so apple cider vinegar as a replacement drink? Are you mad? Worst tasting stuff even when dilluted with water. I have some in a bottle in the fridge now (cider and water) to help with my a1c.

  • I used to drink diet sodas every day over 20 years. It started to make me feel sick everyday, made me super tired everyday and super lazy. I quit cold turkey about a year ago and now I have super energy and stopped getting sick from it. Now I have tons of energy. I drink water now. And a little regular soda here n there.

  • I remember getting used to the flavor. I am addicted. But plain water, especially not ice cold, gives me heartburn, juices are so strong. Maybe diluting other drinks will help.

  • I keep looking things up about Diet Coke to make me stop drinking it knowing how bad it is I don’t know why I love it so much over any other soda. What I love is Diet Coke in a fountain soda like from McDonald’s! They’ve been $1 for almost a year now and I have had about 32 oz (at least) of Diet Coke every single day for maybe 5-6 years. I know it’s slowly killing me and I need to stop. I also drink diet iced tea and all of this crap has aspartame

  • Aspartame is a neurotoxin (dances brain cells to death and also has methanol in it a destroyer of the kidneys watch sweet mystery a poisoned world) and cancer causing I went cold turkey from diet coke and I’m doing better for the fact.

  • Hello there, I want to know if Custokebon Secrets, will really work for me? I see many people keep on talking about this popular lose weight methods.

  • I came veré for answers, trying to see how good or Bad aspartame is since i’m trying to switch from regular cola, cause Ive tried to give up on it, and i found these vídeo, i love it, but i love You more, theres a light in your face that warms My heart, and suddenly i found My self smiling, is it because You don’t drink cola anymore? Has somebody ever tell You feeling the same when You talk? Anyway thanks for the vídeo..

  • I just tried Diet Coke today and it was so f ing disgusting! It made me sick I spat it back out right away! I like regular Coke a lot better! To all the people who like Diet Coke I respect your opinion

  • I am one of those who drank also way too much diet soda (mostly diet coke). After I quit drinking it I dropped 20 kg…more than 40lbs in about a year without a diet. Now I have a much better lifestyle. My eating habit changed also into a good one. After one year I took a coke and the taste was horrible

  • Wait so apple cider vinegar as a replacement drink? Are you mad? Worst tasting stuff even when dilluted with water. I have some in a bottle in the fridge now (cider and water) to help with my a1c.

  • I’m literally drinking around 1 liter of Diet Soda everyday. Nothing have happened to me for over 2 years. I’m even extremely underweight. People need to stop trusting everything they see on the internet…

  • I never really got into Diet Coke but I’m trying to really cut back on soda. I drink tea now with 2 sweet and lows in it and will only drink soda when I’m out with my fiancee which isn’t often which is now a good thing for that one instance. Wish me luck everyone.

  • I remember getting used to the flavor. I am addicted. But plain water, especially not ice cold, gives me heartburn, juices are so strong. Maybe diluting other drinks will help.

  • It doesn’t help u loose weight but it also doesn’t make u gain weight, I’ve lost 40 pounds drinking diet coke, Coke Zero diet Mountain Dew code red and diet Dr Pepper the entire time but I also drank water from time to time.

  • Walked away from Coke Zero. It stains your teeth, likely increases food cravings, hard on your kidneys etc. It was my one vice and I made my health a priority.

  • It has been a week now without it and I have been getting headaches not sure if is related but I am hoping to stop completely and only drink water as a beverage plus some stur water enhancers here and there. I know what you mean about missing it on those sushi and pizza days, I am going to miss it same.

  • You’re spot on at 0:46 to 1:00 i didn’t like the taste of the cheap coke that was priced under 50p so went back to drinking diet coke again then gained abit of weight then at 2:15 to 2:56 that was me with dr pepper after drinking it for the first time in 2/3 months

  • I read plenty of good reviews on the internet about how Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google) can assist you lost lots of weight. Has any one tried using this popular diet plan?

  • Drink just water. Both regular and diet soda on a daily basis turns us into anywhere from a small fluffball to a huge fluffball depending on how much you drink.

  • Omg thats bull! Diet soda doesn’t cause weight gain. You know how I know? I lost over 200 pounds drinking Coke Zero! So don’t panic. Enjoy a diet soda. Just don’t over do it.

  • Usually, the first sign to appear is that one loses the ability to pause between sentences when speaking. Recent research has shown this to have rapidly grown into becoming a pandemic problem.

  • my question is are these studies experimented between, say…two individuals eating the exact same foods on a daily basis for the same period of time, thus consuming the exact same caloric intake for the period of the study. though one individual is drinking a standard coke for instance and the other person is drinking a diet coke, the reason I ask is I have a feeling this was not the case for the nearly 4000 people in the first example but rather these people were drinking diet coke and somebody was simply checking if they were losing weight?
