Growth happens at our limits, wherever they may lie. It’s how much we can become comfortable with being uncomfortable that will determine just how much we can grow. To paraphrase Professor Barnhardt in The Day the Earth Stood Still: At the precipice we change.

But your growth depends on discomfort.

It pays to explore new routines, paths, ideas, disciplines and new ways to be better at what you do. A growth mindset requires leaders to be more inclusive to the unique needs and perspectives of others. Growth requires more than sales and revenue; it requires a clear understanding of human. A growth mindset is one that helps us see skills as capable of improvement. It allows us to see gaps in our knowledge as opportunities to learn something new.

And when we have a growth mindset, we are therefore more prepared to experience the change moment as a challenge, rather than a threat. The human mind has great potential, but we rarely recognize it fully. Most of us work from within our comfort zones expecting extraordinary things to happen. But extraordinary things only happen as a result of extraordinary efforts.

This means that you should go to your highest limits to uncover your fullest. The comfort zone, as defined by Lifehacker, is a “behavioral space where your activities and behaviors fit a routine and pattern that minimizes stress and risk” the operative words here being stress and risk.In our comfort zone, there is a sense of familiarity, security and certainty. When we step outside of our.

  • so he is saying the uk is much cleaner now, but neglects to say it’s because manufacturing has moved to china.
wow what a disingenuous turd he is.

  • 1972: 4 billion people….2 billion whites and 2 billion coloureds…
    2020: 8 billion… crazy… 2.5 billion whites and 5,5 billion coloureds….!!!!!!

  • It’s worrying that this (and similar) videos are viewed and commented on so little. The world’s fixation with growth is going to be our downnfall.

  • It’s absolutely terrifying how accurate Meadows has been in his report so far, I totally expect everything he predicted up to the 2030s collapse to happen. What’s even more scary is how everyone in the higher and lower spheres ignored his warnings, I hope he’s still alive when the collapse happens, just so he can tell everyone “I told you so”.

  • This speaker is verging on the edge of total delusion. Talking only in terms of decreasing rates of growth means that landfills are still needed, carbon emissions are still happening and resource use is still required in order to sustain the current system. The Planet is Finite.

  • 4% OF MAMMALS ARE WILD + 4% OF ENERGY IS RENEWABLE

Solar and wind power are 2% of total global energy use after 30 years trying. https://www.iea.org/data-and-statistics. By 2040 only 15% of global energy will be renewable. This is because electricity is a little over 20% of global energy use. By weight only 4% of mammals are wild ( humans & livestock = 96% ). Emissions went up 50% in 30 yrs, up 30% in 15 years. BAU = RCP8.5 = C02 @ 500 ppm by 2040 and 600 ppm by 2050 = 2X safe limit of 300 ppm. Renewables will be only 20% of global energy by 2050, even with new solar tech — thanks to AC, cryptos, chargers, EVs etc.

Dams and bio-energy are ecological shit holes.

You can’t burn forests for electricity to save us from the climate.

To get 30% of energy from algae would take a country the size of Argentina.

Soy and corn are gene modded to survive the poisons that kill birds, bugs, fish, frogs & plants

Soy and corn are treated with petrochemicals and nano particles for market

Soy and corn are wrapped in gender bending containers for shipping and storage, then we eat it – get sick – and buy medicine from the same people.

We burn soy, corn and palm oil in cars, also plastic and trees for electricity. The trees come from rainforest clearcuts to plant more soy corn and trees. This is called green energy. It’s fraud for green money called carbon credits.

Even without increased AC, EVs, crypto and charger demands, renewables are unfit for purpose on a global scale. 5% or even 10% per decade won’t do.

  • But we are still part of the biosphere. We use stuff we find all around us. As long as we are in our own playpen, we’ll do fine. Just don’t force people to move around to make $$ and attempt to control other people.

  • Al Bartlett speaks the truth, but misses the boat. If we humans have always attempted exponential growth rates, and we also do not notice when we are about to hit the limit, then the obvious conclusion should be that we have hit that limit a long time ago.

See http://stopattwo.org/exponentialgrowth to understand that Al Bartlett and Growth Busters are failing to recognize.

  • correct me if i am wrong, in nuclear reactions, it is the mass that is converted into energy. thus, the total energy isn’t conserved and the first law is N/A…

    so what governs it then?

  • This is bullshit, Co2 is not bad for the planet and the seas are not rising…… when it comes to resources, everything CAN be recycled, is it profitable for someone is the barrier….

  • In 2020, the Trump administration (Trump as president, who’d have thought that? Well the writers of the Simpsons did, presumably as a joke!). Well Trump the joke president (not a funny joke), doesn’t understand anything much (although he thinks he’s an expert on everything) and his problem and the world’s, is not a bacterium, but a virus, namely coronavirus or Covid-19. The outbreak has been growing exponentially, but Trump doesn’t understand exponentials. So Trump decides to ignore the virus and take no action, and does too little too late, aside from dismantling the pandemic early warning apparatus, set up by Obama in the wake of SARS, MERS and Ebola. Another thing: Trump lies constantly about everything, especially about the virus. It’s a Democrat hoax, there’s 15 cases, much more including denying responsibility (it was Obama’s fault apparently) & etc.

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: “Leadership: Whatever happens, you’re responsible. If it doesn’t happen, you’re responsible.”
    11:01 AM 8 Nov 2013

The warning signs were ignored, time was frittered away and testing was far too late, to monitor the disease’s progress. Medical equipment and protective equipment for medical personnel and ventilators for those severely affected is all in short supply. The epidemic hasn’t peaked yet, but it looks like it will rapidly overwhelm the health services capacity to treat those severely affected, as it has in Italy. Many may die, as they have done elsewhere.

Trump was Impeached by Congress, but despite clear and unequivocal evidence of multiple criminal acts and breaches of trust, he was not found guilty by a corrupt Republican majority in the Senate, and Trump the trash president and his enablers will jointly be responsible for those deaths.

  • This example is featured in the Hollywood movie ‘Inferno’ (starring Tom Hanks) as part of Zobrist’s TED-esque presentation (The movie was released on October 14th in India). It’s titled “Bartlett’s beaker”. Prof Bartlett and the beaker analogy are not in Dan Brown’s novel.

  • the demonstration is misleading… emission from OCDE countries went down because factories and industry in general has been relocated to other countries (China and so on)… so China pollutes more to product what we buy and live on…

  • when you talk about UK gpd growth, talk about egypt, middle east and co…
when you talk about FR gpd growth, talk about Algeria, morroco and africa…
let futur generations know how humans ; the white ones have grown in despite others…

  • How much of the decoupling seen in Western nations is true decoupling and not just exporting emissions to the developing world by shifting all the energy-intensive and polluting industries to other countries?

  • Government regulatory agencies always slow progress. If we look at the least regulated area of the marketplace the high-tech sector we see incredible progress, with ever higher quality at ever lower prices.
Contrast that with the most-regulated sectors i.e. healthcare and we see ever higher prices and no increases in quality (lifespan has been falling for the last few years)

  • It is too late. We need to go into survival mode as many around the world has already begun doing. We need to fight for food and water. The war has begun.

  • Potable water and the petroleum and other fossil fuels used for it’s transport and processing are the limiting factors in global population growth. The doom and gloom crowd warning humans to plan an exit strategy from Earth seem to forget the planet has a self-correcting default strategy for the projected lack of elbow room.

  • Same here, just saw the movie and it made me curious to see what’s up with the human population.  Either way, pretty scary thought.

  • …What a load of UN BULL SHIT COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA, meant to DECEIVE and DUPE the world population into surrendering their INDEPENDENCE and SOVEREIGNTY and accepting the centralization of power in the hands of a few SELF APPOINTED saviours of the planet, hellbent to establish a GLOBAL TOTALITARIAN COMMUNIST DICTATORSHIP!..

  • How can you say we cannot substitute energy?
Actually we are at less then 10 years of the first fusion nuclear reactor producing stable energy (and maybe less)

  • We have the answer now: some bacteria would say we are doomed since the 1970s, but all others would not believe even when they are in collapse phase.

  • Why do we need to grow? Wouldn’t it make more sense to design an economic system that did not require growth to function? Again: Why do we need to grow?

  • I love how they complain that not enough people understand the exponential function, then RIGHT after that, the animation shows a linear growth rate of the bacteria in the bottle….

  • The collapse is described in the book of Daniel in the Old Testament of the Bible and in the book of revelation in the new testament of the Bible. There will be a collapse. But it has nothing to do with people. It is ordained by God.

  • I feel that without mentioning limits to growth, the world is showing discomfort to the damage to the ecology, disappearance of rain forests, pollution.

  • Many people want to change their neighborhood for the better… Bill Gates want to change the WORLD for the better… a lot of conspiracy theoretici don’t understand this… and so they blame him for all the bad things imaginable. Bill Gates focus is just WAY bigger and wider spread than the average human being. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad man, contrary…

  • It’s incredibly frustrating they don’t finish the discussion with a breakdown of increases in efficiency plotted against growth. At some point there must still be a hard limit reached where growth becomes impossible.

  • Anyone else remember the 80’s, when it was all “Green House Effect is causing ACID RAIN!”? The TV had frequent PSA’s, showing buildings, automobiles and people being dissolved as soon as they stepped outside. We were doomed 40 years ago too, and were told the world would be dead and lifeless by 2000. All the oceans would dry up! Meh.

  • Lack of analyses because efficiency is Nothing compared by the bounce effect. 1 car consuming 100 l per 100 km has Nothing to do 1 millions car consuming 10 litres

  • This is basically a death sentence for a majority of humanity in the coming 20 years. And the climate consequences are moving faster and faster. I’m starting to believe that we will totally collapse in the very short-term… I just wanted to live a little longer in peace…

  • You will never save the planet. The sun will go red dwarf and destroy it no matter what, so let’s pollute the he’ll out of the plant, get our technology up to scatch, and become a space fairing civilization. Fuck your global warming crap the trees need the co2, you asshole progressives

  • this is a pile of shite. check out their book i think its called the “first global revolution and turn pp55(?) where it says that man is the ENEMY of humanity. they needed something after the collapse of communism to control peoples and they came up with greenhouse effect(by the way “the club of rome admitted /wrote this themselves). then it was global warming. then it was climate emergencey. forgive me if i got them in the wrong order or left some out-its hard to keep up to date with the shite.

  • He has self importance is for little. 1.5yrs of data gathering is insignificant. Promoting thought on already known issues is ordinary. His doomsday style speak is useful only if facts and causes for changing habits, stack up. His rhetoric based on fear over facts is will be found out for what it is “and so-forth”. Growth is only at our own risk, not to the danger of the planet as is the mistake of generating worry about climate/planet change. How is famine or war or disease problems imposed by the planet? Garbage

  • Great. Rich countries blaming poor countries as always for being continuously exploring our natural resources for 500 years+. No, I don’t want to export oil, iron, wood and cattle to rich countries in exchange for the destruction of our natural resources. But yes, you rich countries buy them, no matter how much destruction it cause elsewhere. While doing that also send away all your plastic and the dirtiest possible factories to developing countries. And we should be grateful and stop polluting, as if we could do anything about those big foreign corporation polluting and destroying everything.

  • Right the overshoot, wrong that with 8 billion people, there is no way to prevent poverty, desertification, ocean deaths, pollution, migration, etrc.

  • All paths lead to destruction. Without it, there won’t be any (re)construction. It is our way of quoting the law of constant law and energy.

But whatever we do, we ensure we care for at-least five people. Four shoulders to carry when we die and the one who leads those four to the funeral.

If you wish you may read this book https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.457835 (literally it means “for five others”)

I suppose you are a democrat but we can always amicably differ.

  • As the devolution of Consertives fast approaches that of single cell aboemba in their holy quest to become the dust, lint or doggie dodoos from which they were created, the transmogrification of “Liberals” as a sub species of bacteria is now complete.

  • Doubling every minute is only when conditions are perfect. Thinking of human population conditions are being improved all the time. Nature puts a limit on human growth because it takes two people to make another two people after they have been around for at least 14 years. So 7 billion in 2017 could become 14 billion in 2017 plus 14 years, 2031. but of course 28 billion in 2045. Something has to change to slow that growth down Yes Dan Brown suggested one way to do it in his book Inferno. Doubling every 14 years is not normal for any society but maybe every 25 years? I belive that Al Bartlett was saying that we should be thinking

that there would not be enough space for that number, so we must act now. Dan Brown’s Inferno idea does not seem to be a good one to me.

  • Why is there a difference between slide 11 (population decline starting around 2050) and slide 13 (population decline starting around 2030)?

  • This is an absolute revelation. Unfortunately no one in a position to do anything about population is remotely concerned. Our species is unable to do anything constructive. What seems like progress is, quite often, a retrograde step. One civilisation, still living on this planet in Australia has managed to live for 50000 years without inventing the wheel.

  • haha technology will not create nature. The economy destroys nature, money can’t create nature, technology might delay the end of economy. But economy can’t ignore thermodynamics. too optimistic… interestingly on the side of the multinationals and banks.

  • I don’t understand. When you look at slide 11, it looks to me that population growth will stabilise in 2050 but Dr. Meadows says we are in the midst of our overshoot scenarios ( 18:36)
