  • I used to be a hard gainer. Dont use “I do eat alot” as a an excuse. Alot doesnt mean enough. You need to be eating more than most people if your metabolism is fast

  • I really think that these should be considered 2 separate excercises. I’m not criticising the arch. I also love to arch nowadays because it allows me to lift a lot heavier.
    But what happens when you do an incline bench press now? Do we still keep the arch so that it’s more of a traditional bench press? Is there any benefits to a traditional flat back bench?

    eating 2,000 calories in 2 meals is a huge waste of nutrition as your body won’t utilize everything in your food in two meals, there is inherent waste because your body physically will only be able to utilize a percentage of what you digest.

    eating 2,000 calories across 6 meals is a much easier way to utilize nutritional value, energy storage, and anabolism windows.

  • I sleep with that arch… it’s the natural resting position of my back… if I lay as flat as I can on my back on a flat floor, you can roll a golf ball under me. I don’t mean to sound like I’m making excuses, I’m just concerned that the mechanics don’t apply the same given my odd skeletal structure.

  • Carb intake, i used to think eating carbs made you fat and you had to eat ridiculous amounts of protein to gain muscle. Never realised i would need more grams of carbs than protein, i used to be on 60g carbs per day ��

  • Reason why carbs are important for natty skinny is because of high metabolic rate. It burns muscle if we are in a caloric deficit of 400+.

    Though 0.7 protein per pound of body weight is still high and costly in my opinion. Unless you are competing.

  • Are u sure about point 4? Because what I learned from literally every study, yt video or text is that door an average person the need is about 0.8 Gramm per kg bodyweight. An Athlete who wants to gain muscles needs to eat about 1.5-2 Gramm of protein per kg bodyweight a day.

  • I go in random spurts where I’ll eat like 6 meals probably around 4K calories and then the next day I’ll only eat like a bag of chips and be full the whole day

  • As much as I agree, I would say the second biggest problem for skinny guys is overtraining! So I wouldn’t make every lift a compound lift or if you do, then drop the amount of sets you do per workout. Just a point, I still agree with what he said:)

  • I have weight trained for 32 years I started when I was 18 and in my life I have had more sex than I can remember and believe when I hit my 30’s and into my 40’s I was much bigger than I was in my 20’s and I had more sex in my 30’s and 40’s and trust me women threw themselves at me, they wanted my body they weren’t interested in me as a person which suited me. I stopped counting the one night stands I had when I hit 1500 and that’s not me been big headed, the fact is a women pushed, fought each other, followed, begged and pleaded me to have sex with them and all because I weight trained and had a great body…the secret is get big, but never get to a size like those you see competing on Mr Universe, the main reason stamina, those Mr Universe guys will last seconds if that purely because every part of their body needs a good blood supply, they need the energy, but they can’t get a boner as they can’t produce the blood supply in order to maintain a boner!..so make sure you get yourself big but also you must have stamina! I have never touched steroids never will, I have seen what it does to other people I know, firstly it makes you impotent, hair loss, mood swings, no energy, bad skin, forgetfulness, so no chance would never touch the stuff, I am natural and I have had more sex than ten guys put together!.., nothing turns a women on quicker than big shoulders, big chest and big arms and a firm arse, drives them wild!.so you skinny guys hit the gym work on your top half your legs will take care of themselves with the weights you lift and the biggest and best advice I can give you is to stay out of these modern day fitness centres, get yourself to an old man’s gym, dirty, stinking gym because the guys in there are old school and believe me when they help you train you learn a lot more about yourself than in some posh fitness centre!.those old school guys give you confidence you will never get that at a fitness centre, I used to call into some fitness centres on the way home after going to my gym to get something to eat and guarantee everytime I did I would come out either with a woman who took me back to their place or I would be given phone numbers from women who had boyfriends or husbands and wanted to arrange to meet, they all knew I never went to these shit fitness centres, I have had tons of sex in the backs of cars after meeting women on their dinner hour from work or if they skipped the fitness centre and picked me up!..I was always a bad lad, spent time inside, that turned women on just as much as my body, I am only telling you guys this as don’t listen to all these self help you tube channels, they don’t live in the real world!.

  • all my workout have 3 compounds lift and 2 isolation, and sometimes when i have more energy its 3-4 heavy compound lift in the morning and the night 4 isolation exercise. for me it work but its not for everybody it can enter in the overtraining zone real quick. exemple: bench incline, flat dumbell press, bench dicline, and for isolation fly incline and cable crossover. for the back i do deadlift, than weighted pull up, and heavy t-bar row and im doing to light exercise that created myself for isolate some weak points in my back. so there you can see the type of routine.

  • If it is harder for a lankier person to bench press the same amount of weight as a stockier person, would it be fair to say the lankier person benching the same weight as the stockier person is actually functionally stronger? Presumably, lifting the exact same weight through a longer range of motion is an indicator of greater strength as more force was applied for longer.

  • Alright, not a dietician but speaking from experience. if you do a keto diet and eat to much protein, you will go into something different and your body will burn protein as food, if that happens YOUR BODY EATS YOUR MUSCLE!! You wil slim down your muscles and lose a LOT of strength, i lost quite a lot of muscle mass and cant get it back (yet), balance your diet, no sugar, medium fat, medium protein and high carbs as said in the video.

  • Two years ago I started lifting with a trainer 4 times a week and eating carbs like a maniac. And guess what? My blood sugar (A1c) went through the roof. I got diabetes. Bad. Had to cut the carbsand guess what? A1c dropped to below diabetic numbers again. So I’m still working out like a manic but can’t gain muscle. So what do I want? Muscles and diabetes?   • One thing I get from this video is that the point of arching the back is to use a cheat to lift weights heavier than you otherwise could. Is that correct? Why not just use good form and appropriate weights. Over time, strength will improve and heavier weights can be used all while maintaining good form.

  • The guy speaks the truth. I’m a ectomorph/”hardgainer”. Added fine scottish oats to my diet for carbs among other things and in 14days I went from 62.4kg to 69.53kg. It does work. Ofcourse i also eat alot of protein along with shakes.

  • I used to be over 200 pounds at ages 13-15 then I did a thing where i lived in the wilderness 100 days and lived off the land mostly(boiled lake and stream water is the best and the more floaties in it the better just saying a tadpole or two never hurt anyone… i think lol) but after i got out i was 150 and i have never been able to gain any weight back so thank you! All us skinny guys have been saved!!!!

  • Just putting this out here for other skinny people like me, a few things that helped gaining weight + as cheap as possible:
    Buy instant oats and put them in your post workout shake (50-100g), easy and nice, and a bag of instant oats is super cheap (i just bought 5 kilos for < 10 euro). You could even use them for breakfast. They are literally a good carb bomb.
    Eat shitloads of rice and buy a rice cooker. Rice cooker is something like 20 bucks and makes it a lot easier. Also rice is damn cheap at e.g. Aldi (1 euro per 1 kilo)
    Bread is also a good one that is easy and cheap (no need to prepare anything)
    Lastly, stuffing yourself eventually gets easier (even after a few days), im starting to get hungry now at times where i did not.
    Also, if you live at your parents, turn yourself into a human vacuum cleaner 😉

  • Are u sure about point 4? Because what I learned from literally every study, yt video or text is that door an average person the need is about 0.8 Gramm per kg bodyweight. An Athlete who wants to gain muscles needs to eat about 1.5-2 Gramm of protein per kg bodyweight a day.

    3.They don’t eat enough calorie dense foods
    4. They don’t do a 5×5 and 3×3 alternation for any named exercise they use
    Even if you have 20 or 30lbs of aesthetic fat to lose, have good or beyond genetics and do everything right, food is usually the #1 issue for plateaued progress and not gradually pyramiding DOWN each training cycle until you’re at a 3×3, or damn near, for your lifts is commonplace.
    Once you hit good or even great numbers and everything else in place, it’s almost always an issue of completely standardizing 3×3 and 5×5 to go further.

    I’m a skinny guy myself and finally was so fed up looking like an extra from an Auschwitz film that I started a weight gain program early this year, also inspired by Connor Grooms’ book Eating for Mass.

    I’ve gained a little over 20 lbs so far but my problem is my already low appetite has just nosedived. I have trouble finishing meals I used to eat. I dunno why, I thought the opposite would happen. So I still have at least 15 lbs to go for my original goal but I’m really struggling. God I wish there was an appetite stimulant drug, like there’s all these f’ing “fat burning” supplements.

    I think the biggest thing for “hardgainers” is they just don’t eat enough, despite what they may think. HONESTLY track every single thing you eat (My Fitness Pro app works great), NO BULLSHIT, and increase the calories and you’ll gain weight (and lift). In general anyway.

  • Someone said in here to eat dense food etc. It’s all about calories guys, take in how much calories versus how much you expend. Alot of guys who are very skinny, apart from health issues, usually because you’re not eating enough calories. And that can be hard, especially if you don’t like food that much AND/OR you have a high metabolism that’s what you naturally need calories wise, just to live. Go to google and type ‘caloric intake calculator’ and see what you normally take for yourself to live, plus how much you work out. Work out how much you eat when you don’t train, and then how much you eat a day during the day, and average it out over a week. If you have a high metabolism, add 500 calories MINIMUM to start to gain weight. And I say MINIMUM. If you want to grow muscle, you need 500 more on top of what you need to just live. If you arent a big eater, or need a tonne of calories and its too much work, try some protein powder with a label that says ‘BULK/BULKING POWDER’. That should help to give you the extra calories. I’m a big guy, im also 6″4 tall, I need to eat heaps of calories to NOT LOSE weight. I’m already 105kgs of muscle and lean, to get there I was on 4500 calories minimum. I hope that helps you guys, and I fight and go up and down divisions all round the year, Ive never been into stupid diets, it’s all just about calories. You can figure out what sort of calories works for you, but use logic NOT fatty McDonald types of calories, eat good food. You don’t need some bullshit diet for magic, the magic is just calories it’s not hard at all. Cheers people!

  • Sad part is I can’t take too much sugar. Makes me dizzy and later sugar crash. I’m still making banana smoothies with whey etc but ice cream or anything too sweet isn’t an option.

  • all my workout have 3 compounds lift and 2 isolation, and sometimes when i have more energy its 3-4 heavy compound lift in the morning and the night 4 isolation exercise. for me it work but its not for everybody it can enter in the overtraining zone real quick. exemple: bench incline, flat dumbell press, bench dicline, and for isolation fly incline and cable crossover. for the back i do deadlift, than weighted pull up, and heavy t-bar row and im doing to light exercise that created myself for isolate some weak points in my back. so there you can see the type of routine.

  • I think I’ve been pushing my shoulders forward for as long as I’ve been lifting, I’m 6’4′, and my arms are disproportionately long so bench has been nothing but trouble for me. I’ve been lifting a long time and my bench press is embarassingly low. I wish I had someone knowledgeable to help me a long time ago.

    Another good breakfast is to take some toast 160-250 kcal, and but 2 tbsp of sunbutter/peanut butter on each. Since 2tbsps of sunbutter is 250 calories, you’re looking at about 600+ calories in a quick meal

  • Eat a calorie surplus of minimally processed whole foods workout in hypertrophy range with a good program and get plenty of sleep that’s what helped me go from 140 to 175 but I had to eat 3800 cal a day and get about.8 per pound of bodyweight in protein don’t fall for any fad diets cuz most are designed to help people lose weight

  • I really think that these should be considered 2 separate excercises. I’m not criticising the arch. I also love to arch nowadays because it allows me to lift a lot heavier.
    But what happens when you do an incline bench press now? Do we still keep the arch so that it’s more of a traditional bench press? Is there any benefits to a traditional flat back bench?

  • Reason why carbs are important for natty skinny is because of high metabolic rate. It burns muscle if we are in a caloric deficit of 400+.

    Though 0.7 protein per pound of body weight is still high and costly in my opinion. Unless you are competing.

  • Please help! I have been working for almost 3 months now and I’m an ectomorph. Yet despite a ton of research, contracting the muscles, eating eggs and three 8 oz protein meals a day, I am getting a belly more than muscles. What am I doing wrong? I’m not eating junk food except some oreos and a soda in the last two weeks, but I don’t think just one week of 2-4 days of eating bad foods would expand my belly this much. Do I need to be doing cardio or ab/core exercises (not doing any at the moment)? I just want to gain some muscle mass and not look so skinny while keeping my belly from making the biggest gain of my body parts.

Subjects were randomized into one of two groups: consume 4.4 g/kg of protein daily or to maintain current dietary habits for eight weeks. Both groups were also instructed to maintain their current exercise habits. Compared to the control group, the high-protein group consumed significantly more calories (+ 800 kcal) and protein (4.4 vs. 1.8 g/kg) derived primarily from whey protein shakes, leading to a diet that was 45% protein, 27% fat, and 30% carbohydrate. There were no statistically significant changes between groups or within groups for any of the body composition variables. However, it is notable that the high-protein group increased FFM (+1.9 vs. 1.3 kg) and reduced FM (-0.2 vs. +0.3 kg) compared to the control group despite eating an additional 800 kcal/d”

  • If your, real skinny. Peanut butter, Rice, Mashed potatoes, Oatmeal, Steaks, eggs, Spinach. Lots of water. These foods will stick to you. No junk food that makes you crap. DO NOT WORKOUT FOR 1 MONTH! Until you see weight gain. Then, when you do workout. You will have more of an appetite & see gains.

  • Agree too much healthy foods….salads, beans and fruit….is no good for skinny people. Root veg and protein such as potatoes and pasta is better.

  • i recently started using an app called lifesum Which i use to track all my calories,meals, every glass or bottle of water, and registrering my workouts. i am currently 17 and 63kg and my goal is to hit 70kg.   • One thing I get from this video is that the point of arching the back is to use a cheat to lift weights heavier than you otherwise could. Is that correct? Why not just use good form and appropriate weights. Over time, strength will improve and heavier weights can be used all while maintaining good form.

  • I actually started eating like that not too long ago, I eat 4-6 times a day, and my weight has increased so much, I didn’t think it’s possible, my ego changed, guys just eat carbs, every day, every 2-3 hours just try normal portions of carb foods, I know you can,even if you go to school it’s possible, don’t make excuses, remember why you started!!

So naturally when I began working out my right arm stayed bigger,so I got the dumb idea when benching to compensate for it by placing my hands to the left of the bar, now my left pec is a little bigger.   • I have weight trained for 32 years I started when I was 18 and in my life I have had more sex than I can remember and believe when I hit my 30’s and into my 40’s I was much bigger than I was in my 20’s and I had more sex in my 30’s and 40’s and trust me women threw themselves at me, they wanted my body they weren’t interested in me as a person which suited me. I have never touched steroids never will, I have seen what it does to other people I know, firstly it makes you impotent, hair loss, mood swings, no energy, bad skin, forgetfulness, so no chance would never touch the stuff, I am natural and I have had more sex than ten guys put together!.., nothing turns a women on quicker than big shoulders, big chest and big arms and a firm arse, drives them wild!.so you skinny guys hit the gym work on your top half your legs will take care of themselves with the weights you lift and the biggest and best advice I can give you is to stay out of these modern day fitness centres, get yourself to an old man’s gym, dirty, stinking gym because the guys in there are old school and believe me when they help you train you learn a lot more about yourself than in some posh fitness centre!.those old school guys give you confidence you will never get that at a fitness centre, I used to call into some fitness centres on the way home after going to my gym to get something to eat and guarantee everytime I did I would come out either with a woman who took me back to their place or I would be given phone numbers from women who had boyfriends or husbands and wanted to arrange to meet, they all knew I never went to these shit fitness centres, I have had tons of sex in the backs of cars after meeting women on their dinner hour from work or if they skipped the fitness centre and picked me up!..I was always a bad lad, spent time inside, that turned women on just as much as my body, I am only telling you guys this as don’t listen to all these self help you tube channels, they don’t live in the real world!.

  • Please help! I have been working for almost 3 months now and I’m an ectomorph. Yet despite a ton of research, contracting the muscles, eating eggs and three 8 oz protein meals a day, I am getting a belly more than muscles. What am I doing wrong? I’m not eating junk food except some oreos and a soda in the last two weeks, but I don’t think just one week of 2-4 days of eating bad foods would expand my belly this much. Do I need to be doing cardio or ab/core exercises (not doing any at the moment)? I just want to gain some muscle mass and not look so skinny while keeping my belly from making the biggest gain of my body parts.

  • Dude your video was great! I used to weigh 128lbs last year this year im 155lbs. I felt that when you said it was uncomfortable eating so much food and all the time. Sometimes I would gag and get to the point of nausea to where I would want to throw up. I was rail skinny, nothing but bones, then for 6 months I would pack weight but It didnt notice to other poeple, but i went from rail skinny to thin, and I’m going for fit, swole, cut, My calorie intake was 3500 a day. My goal is 170lbs. I’m going into the marines this year and also a volunteer fire department. I work out alot and I run alot so I burn double the calories normal people do. It’s so hard but it pays to be a winner. Sacrifices are worth it. Hope someone sees this. It isnt easy to get strong and fit and equalize your weight. But if you want it bad enough, you’ll get there. And at the end you’ll get the most satisfying feeling of getting to where you’d never imagine getting.

  • Want more mass? go more often in gym, more u will burn energy, more food u will eat, ur hunger will raise, u will eat more and instantly get weight. ofc with forcing u can eat more, but if u dont want to force urself, just eat as much as u want and after weeks, months, years, u will get any weight u want. just dont forget to eat snacks like snickers or twix to avoid hunger in breaks between a real good meal. More sport, better hunger, bigger muscles and ur weight. its hard work, so dont push urself to the limits to avoid injuries and calculate ur moves

  • I’m very thin. was always the skinniest kid in school. I learned how to get stronger, relative to what I was used to, but haven’t figured out how to get strong compared to strong guys. Idk if i’ve ever been able to bench 225 for 1. I’m 35 now and am still lifting and running consistently but am kind of resigned myself to the fact that I’ll never get above 182 ish pounds (that may sound high for average person but I’m close to 6′ 2″, not 5’5″). I think you are right about the carbs, though. Seems like I bulk a little when I eat a lot of carbs.

  • If it is harder for a lankier person to bench press the same amount of weight as a stockier person, would it be fair to say the lankier person benching the same weight as the stockier person is actually functionally stronger? Presumably, lifting the exact same weight through a longer range of motion is an indicator of greater strength as more force was applied for longer.

  • Bruh chugging down all those food starts to kinda hurt. It feels like thanksgiving on every meal. I don’t mind the hard exercise though, it’s the constant eating that’s bothering me.
