  • 100% I’m not a good fighter. The point of self defense is to get away, buy time until you get to safety or can call for help. I’d like to learn how to actually fight, but self defense is a good place holder for that. Like, you’re not trying to beat the shit out of somebody, just surprise them

  • 1) People snatching bags will rarely be willing to fight for it. Bag snatching happens in public, crowded areas where they can disappear quickly. So at that point not having it grabbed is the priority since youre not in any physical danger. If youre alone and get mugged it makes no difference how you carry your bag.
    2) Never seen that key thing. Heard that people should use keys like a flail or hammer instead.. idk how that would work tho.
    3) The phone thing is intended for someone to know where you are if something happens. If you walk alone and get attacked no one might know where you are and no one will call the cop or ambulance for you. If youre on the phone and you get attacked the other person knows youre being attacked and where exactly you are. What might happen instead is you might get your phone snatched, but the risk of assault or rape is lower because the assailant knows the other person will call the police immediately to that location.
    4) When youre in a fight a weak kick in the balls is better than no kick. Or whats the alternative? Bend over and spread you cheeks?
    5) Being arrogant sure doesnt help.

  • I don’t really get the concept of ‘women self defense’. A jab for woman is the same as a jab for a man. A rear naked choke for a woman is the same as a man. We practice human self defense that is the correct term

  • Another great advice would be NOT to carry pepper spray, taser and other ‘weapons’ with you. Not only because of the adrenalin, you are maybe not able to use it, but also EVERY weapon you carry with you can be used against you. The only weapon no one can take you away is your own experience and routine practice of the martial art you like. And than you have to experience real situations to learn HOW you will react. Nobody can tell if he or she is a ‘fight’ or ‘flight’ or ‘freeze’ person. Only in the situation you will experience it. And than, if you had some practice before, your experience will help you NOT to panic if you get grabbed, or pushed, or beaten, because your body knows from experience, that this is no reason to panic, but to be concentrated and aware and ready to stand your ground.

  • This makes me think of the guy who did push ups every single day for a year. Never mind that exercising only your frontal muscles can be very dangerous for posture and health. But weight training does not build muscles. That should be the myth. Weight training damages your muscles and your body responds by repairing them and incrementally building more than where they started. So adequate rest is just as important as proper training.

  • You should clarify that the ‘Afterburn’ effect is only like 10-15% more from the workout, and not that it will keep burning the entire day.

  • As a little kid my mother got into a fight with another lady she put the key between her finger just like ya did. and it worked my mother dropped her with a punch got on top of her and would throw a punch and was diging the key in her forehead after every few punches when they got my mother off of the other lady she had a hole in her forehead and blood was every where they use to call my mother ms Tyson she is little and the other girl was big just one of many I seen my mother handle. That key thing works!

  • As someone that has taken and taught martial arts for almost 35 years, my most annoying headache are the women over 40 that don’t want to put the time in to get physically and mentally conditioned to be able to defend themselves against a physical attack.

I always get “well can’t you just give a self defense class” or “I need something now”, or “Can’t I just rake the eyes and go for the groin?”

They just can’t get it through their heads that it takes years of hard work of going to class and testing what they learn against actual people. Oh, and one thing I get from both male and females over 40 is “do we really need to make physical contact?”

It’s not that they are female. I’ve seen so many young ladies that train all the time and take what they do seriously. It’s the middle aged and senior citizens that are delusional, and balk when they are told it takes years to get good. And talking to them is like talking to a wall.

  • i know longer doesnt mean better, but how do you know for sure that it doesnt mean worse either? i “”train”” for a few hours in the morning, however currently i experience almost no fatigue or muscle soreness. im not doing anything very intense, but i am training for longer

  • This is so helpfull bc everyone expect that all martial arts are true that’s why when i see the thumbnail and title,i watch it thank you for making this video!

  • Hey Ms. J! It’s me (again). Just wanna ask, when’s the best time of the day to workout during IF? Is it before breaking the fast or during fasting or during eating window?Any idea?

  • The other thing also starts with F doesn’t it . I can’t believe everybody missed that one. Actually, on reflection, people wrongly assume they are good at alllll the F’s, fighting, fleeing, feeding (and resting/relaxing) and the other one without any effort or focus on improvement. Silly people.

  • I’m really impressed by the knowledge n information u give on fitness n food..its so true n applicable..I have got such good results by following ur workout videos n the tips u give abt diet..u have an immense understanding of health n fitness.. keep making more such videos..a big thanks to u..love from Indonesia ☺️

  • I’ve met people with ten times the strength of a buffed dude that goes to gym every day and were stick-skinny, genetics or some secret technique?

  • Maybe Señora Joanna has now less frequented uploading videos on YouTube! Yeah… she now focuses much on her fio app!… YouTube is now her SECONDARY platform!…

  • Guys Subscribe to this channel.Vivek deserves the most subscribers among all the Indian fitness you tubers. And this comment deserves to be pinned @VIVEK.

  • The phone thing isnt a myth tho? I use it all the time. Men are less likely to sexually harass me when i am in conversation. It does help. I’m sorry but as a dude, do you really think you can speak for the experiences of women? Most of the time we get in trouble outside it is noy violence buy sexual assault. Men harassing you by starting a disgusting conversation is terrifying and getting to avoid that is extremely valuable. Of course it isnt going to stop violent psychopaths but it does keep away a lot of the dudes asking for your number and then getting upset and bothering you

  • In india I eat whitr rice everyday and I have to eat a lot bcoz of my parents, if I do workout they would say don’t overwork, I can’t make smoothies and eat healthy in india being in a middle class family

  • Sorry Vivek sir but I think girls and boys can grow even after 18 and 21 respectively.
Btw your videos are as usual very informative. Lots of love to you❤️

  • Hi..Im new in your channel..i find your videos so educating..I get know more on more about Healthy diet and Exercise..If you not busy..kindly make a videos about Intermitent Fasting i wanna know about this kind of diet…or what you called about it.

  • Some of this myths are confusing before but after I’ve actually done it, it makes sense.

My fat is around 31% prior to the lockdown and after a few months it was down to 25%. It’s not easy since I can’t see any changes yet. But it was encouraging when people are saying ‘hey, you looked like you lose some weight’.

At first my aim is to lose weight but after months of caloric deficit and workout, I feel healthier and that’s now my aim. To be healthier. The abs is a welcome bonus.

  • “We are not, realistically speaking, talking about the woman defeating the man”
Yeah, teaching people they cannot win and they are training in vain is a glorious way of thinking.
I am sure if people buy time when they are attacked in a dark alley will most certainly spawn a knight in shining armor to save them.

  • “Bulky” is a subjective term… it could mean different things to different people.

Some think that competitive female bodybuilding is the only interpretation of that term (aka: steroid users)… but for many women, it’s not necessary to go that far for the word “bulky” to be warranted.

Of course, it is virtually impossible for an average woman to lift some weights and end up looking like a professional bodybuilding competitor… but it’s actually quite possible for a woman to get on a weight training program and not be satisfied with her physique depending on personal interpretation of the term.

I think the real myth here is that adding more muscle size somehow turns the average person into a super-duper fat-burning machine capable of easily burning off tons of excess food in a flash…

Of course, by building more muscle your metabolism is increased and you do burn more calories… but the actual amount of extra calories burned isn’t really that significant after all is said and done.

To incentivize women into doing strength training (which is still good to do regardless), often times the truth is stretched and over-exaggerated to make the idea more attractive, and this is definitely one of those instances.

Think about it… if extra muscle size really revved up one’s metabolism that high, then professional bodybuilders wouldn’t need to go on such restrictive diets or do so many hours of cardio a week to get really lean and ripped for a bodybuilding show.

They would simply have to train, develop huge muscles and automatically be super-lean all the time without adjusting anything else.

  • There is no second thought that why you are the best in this fitness industry and why entire YouTube loves you. The kind of knowledge which you have and moreover the way you portray things is simply marvellous. I really wanna thank you Zillion times for educating us.stay safe and keep inspiring #LittleInfo

  • Hii. What if I burn 1200 calories a day by workout and consume 1200 calories? Will I still be at calorie deficient because of the calories consumed during my rest time or do I need to reduce my calorie intake?

  • Just saw your latest video on 18 sept 2019 and now I am here.
What’s different between two videos, your beard looks little unusual at that time, lol

  • is noone gonna talk about how horrible that rowing form was? thats how the new guys row and wonder why they cant move the next day, smh…

  • Joanna plz answer my question .So my question is that if we had cornflakes milk and a banana in breakfast. Is it perfect for a diet??????? Plz tell me coz ur workouts really work. And I want to be totally slim

  • Congrats on 2 million subs Joanna. Recently I have lost 12 kilos and I need to lose just 3 or 4 more. I’m a Malaysian teenage girl and I am wondering about how I can mantain my weight long term after losing it. What scares me the most is gaining it all back.
