Why ‘You Are What You Eat’ May Be a Lie. by Danielle Omar, RD. November 11, 2016. No Comments. Share it: You’ve probably been told a few times in your life — by a well-meaning parent, teacher or even your physician — that healthy eating is important because “you are what you eat. Why ‘You Are What You Eat’ May Be a Lie You’ve probably been told a few times in your life — by a well-meaning parent, teacher or even your physician — that healthy eating is important because “you are what you eat.”.

I no longer believe that you are what you eat. In fact, I think that’s a huge lie that far too many people have bought into. Instead, I believe that you eat what you are.

Meaning, if you are tired, depressed, and just not very happy with your body or your life you’ll reach for foods that support those feelings. When you eat something that has been injured, brutalized, callously treated, full of toxicity, you are not honoring who your are — you are hurting yourself and your bodily health. You are what you eat is not a lie, it is symptomatic response to a. Why You Eat What You Eat is a scientific exploration of how and why we form those habits.

I received an advanced copy of this book, so I di “Knowledge of how our mind and body are affected by our food choices, and how our senses and psychology alter our experience of food and the consequences of eating, is power.”. The problem is, if you are 40 years old, you have the power of a 40 year eating habit working against you and the odds of success are slight unless you are highly committed. You may.

If you’re struggling to lose weight (and really, who isn’t?), it may be a matter of when as much as what you eat. Eating at the “right” time of day may be more key to weight loss than the. We Lie About What We Eat, And It’s Messing Up Science: The Salt Humans are notoriously bad at remembering exactly how much we eat and exercis. If you’ve established a routine of lying down soon after you eat your food, you may eventually develop gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) in which your lower esophagus cannot close off correctly after you’ve eaten something.

It may not feel like it to you, but people who tell lie after lie are often worried about losing the respect of those around them. They want you to like them, be impressed, and value them.

  • I am truly with the one that loves me to death, 2 other men that I thought I was in love with me has not done a quarter more than my husband know even though. We were seperated and divorced in family court!!!! We got married again

  • Why then do I come home from my boyfriend, who kissed me and told me I am amazing and the first thing I want is a huge pot of ice cream? I feel like there’s an addiction beyond what’s described here. Or maybe I need to reconsider my relationship…

  • great! Probably the use of willpower in the mornings is one of my diet “secrets”… just packing healthy low calorie food in the morning and taking with me. But no money to buy sth at lunchtime. So I end up eating my healthy food, even if I have cravings in the afternoon as I don’t have a choice.

  • Love this woman’s videos and talks. But stumbled upon this only today though. I didn’t know she had a weight loss story… she seems to have gained a lot of weight now. Wondering what happened…

  • I super appreciate this woman’s perspectives & find them spot-on.

I do think that she may be missing that “Are you sure?” can be an effort to be more respectful in case someone is failing to give their self permission, in many social situations, but she’s right that it can be damaging in its effect.:-) i don’t say it from a mindless or pushy place, and it’s /definitely/ not because i distrust my friends’ instincts… it’s because i distrust their self-love.

  • if I was to do a self diagnosis, after been read the verdict, I would then ask what is normal anymore?, do we as a people have to put a label on everything, can we acknowledge our silly trends and stop them before they consume all of us with a justifiable reason to act out in the way we do all because of a diagnosis we don’t seem to fully understand.

  • Whole Foods Plants Based reverses diabetes 2, heart disease, obesity and a few auto-immune diseases. What makes people fat aren’t as much the sugars but the animal fats and processed foods. I take quite much brown sugar in the morning. Search here for Dr.Gregen’s Daily Dozen.

  • Tell your patience to oxygenate learn to oxygenate learn to breathe your fabric is oxygen-starved that’s why you speak the way you do because you don’t know take the initiative it’s your responsibility Aloha from Hawaii

  • Leaving aside mental health, because there still learning about that. this diet, ticks all the boxes your gut instinct tells you that

  • i definitely agree 100% with this video! BBC TV tested that theory with a group of stressful people and made them eat a veggie/fruit/fish diet for a month or two and it worked! I myself have that experience too.

  • Bruh could you please do some tutorials and instructions love to replicate what you do man.
Edit: The music part. Like how you create these SIIIICK tracks.

  • I love oyster! Especially baby oyster. I think I need to feed my mom’s oyster. She’s a very moody and angry woman. Maybe eating oyster will calm her down. The point is eat everything proportion. Then, you’ll be fine.

  • How gross and strange, showing what looks like some dark mold inside those bananas? Just not sure why you happen to think bananas look like that on the inside? Animal testicles people have unknowingly eaten at a well known restaurant is disgusting, and if it’s true, oughta get people arrested, and sent to jail. American cheese isn’t tasty. It never melts by fire…. as a different YouTube video, (not this video) was of a bald white guy in his kitchen, who’s married and has children was informing viewers, saying, “Look what you could be feeding your family”.., then he proceeded to show viewers how
fire from use of a lighter…, as the flame touches the slice of (fake cheese) American cheese it will scorch, char, but strangely enough it never melts

  • Am I the only one who thinks the fruit sold in supermarket is nothing but pure crap. Cantaloupes from Peru, so hard and tasteless, sit waiting on my kitchen counter to ripen for weeks, and plums like rocks. Tomatoes taste like cardboard. So i buy mostly avocados, green lettuce and berries.

  • Although fruits veggies beans nuts have been shown beneficial to heal and reverse most diseases (I refer you to nutritionfacts.org), olive oil is a highly concentrated processed food and should be used sparingly if at all. The categories above place it as an equal to the other components which is misleading to people who have not done their research about what real Mediterranean diet looks like.

  • So what you’re saying is whether or not we overeat is dependant, among other things, on other people and our relationships with them
That sucks, I’d like to be more independent than that

  • Let’s see how he feels when he’s 55 years old, balding and lost $$$in his stocks. See if a fish filet slab would make him feel better. If, he could afford the filet.

  • My mentor got Parkinson’s disease from eating raw oysters. When his symptoms worsened, he traveled to Switzerland to commit assisted suicide.:|

  • Or not eat…try fasting. Reset your metabolic clock that’s been running overtime with three meals a day and gallons of sugar drinks…swear off high fructose soda is your first step toward survival…..Oysters are high in toxic pollutants, depending on the source

  • I am a 14-year survivor of Major Depressive Disorder, Acute Anxiety Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Visit www. KamaraMikel.com to Pre-order my book, “Kept my enemy closer”, which chronicles my personal story or survival.

  • WOW. That was amazing. That was deep. I was getting choked up. Thank you for making this masterpiece and shining a light on what we tried to hide in the dark or pantry.

  • I dont need science to tell me anything about a healthy diet when science is the main culprit contaminating the food supply with all the pestices and genitcally modify corn soy wheat that is causing alot of the health problems in the first place. and tomatoes peppers both sweet and hot beans berries are not meditterrenean diet this is mayan food like chocolate vanilla avocados. and squash potatoes sweet and normal quinoa spirulina also native american diets not meditterrenean diet.

  • Whole food plant based is the way to go…no oil, sugar and minimal salt. No processed foods. Been whole food plant based for 6 months and have never felt so good, been so slim and just generally happy. Thanks to Dr. Michael Gregor, Dr. John Mcdougall and Dr. Joel Fuhrman, none of whom I know personally but learned all I know from them.

  • WAIT! Just because he has 300K followers on IG means he’s suppose to be happy!?!?? Lol this clown said he wasn’t happy as his IG showed…. that’s everyone on social media…

  • Food contains macromolecules for biosynthesis as well as the energy needed to metabolize and catabolize them. A carbohydrate is a carbohydrate no matter where it came from. Lipids are lipids no matter where they come from. A calorie is a calorie no matter where it comes from. It’s that some foods contain more micronutrients than others which can aid the biosynthetic pathways.

  • Chicken tikka masala made by the Indian. I thought the British dish was fish and chips until we Asians introduced tikka masala to them lol. Tikka masala don’t even sound English. I mostly see English people eating in Asian restaurant.

  • WAIT! Just because he has 300K followers on IG means he’s suppose to be happy!?!?? Lol this clown said he wasn’t happy as his IG showed…. that’s everyone on social media…

  • Your videos are educational for a certain age group (under 20). You say things that each of us knows, and most often describe and / or sum up the reasons that led to the effect more or less desired by us, once we reach adulthood.
End the videos the same way, without giving us any solution to what we already know and experience in everyday life.

The ideas we learned and re-learned from your videos are:

    1. We are all sick / not normal, just like everyone else.

    2. We are all stupid or we are stupid.

    3. All children are innocent, perfect, and have the right to anything. This child comes in contact with a depressed mother and an aggressive father. Clearly the child is an angel and the parents or adults around him are monsters that destroy his soul and make him disabled when he has reached adulthood. Only you forget that these “monsters” = adults were also once children, and their parents = “monsters of that time”, in their turn were also once children in their turn, etc.

As a child every being is an angel, the same angel becoming an adult becomes a monster…

    4. There is no God in your vision. So if someone was born into a disorganized family, was poor, had no chance / material opportunity to become “someone” in this society, was never loved and failed to get married in life do nothing, all these are part of the human condition.

It all sounds like you’re saying, “Don’t be upset, you’re just unlucky.”

    5. You can find the power and consolation of an existence of nothing and without success by going to the theater, reading a good book, to an exhibition, etc.

I taught you almost by heart the presentations you make. At first I found them interesting, but then I noticed that you repeat yourself in ideas and that listening to some of them is enough to understand the way you think and the few ideas you juggle from one conference to another.

If you do not give us any solution to what we already know all your science is useless or at least will help you.

PS. You make fun of others, the way they try to help. Possibly their help…

I don’t know why you do that. In fact, you do the same thing as them. You sell the few ideas you have acquired after a few years of study. Maybe you have some success because as a priest in fact due to your profession you take care of the human soul, you talk about the fears, sadness and lack of real perspectives of many of us. All this dressed in a little culture, with a little charm and some humor.

Your tribe shares all these ideas with you and does not believe in God. Most of you who sell these teachings know almost nothing and earn money by manipulating our thinking, our fears, our unhappiness, etc.

  • I think the little girl who has been picky on when and what she eats sounds like Autism. That is not a bad word. She is different and that is okay.

  • I have gained 10 pounds since a breakup and it will only steadily increase as times pass. I’m lonely and sad and I use food as distractions to help me not be…this video is painfully on point.

  • My father was given food instead of apologies as a love substitute..develped comfort eating and obesity..I inherited a weird relationship with food surprised?Old vid but timely for men

  • k so I dont get the oyster thing. Is that a filler episode? Deep fried oysters are deep fried oysters unless stated otherwise. If you eat oysters, you know that they are are oysters. I have lived on the East Coast all my life. I have eaten oysters in every way. Cooked and raw.

  • This has been reiterated so many times and yet I see some people eating junk shit all the time and they live to be 100 and I see health nuts dying at 40 from a heart attack. Just live your life and quit worrying about everything. It’s killing you.

  • Was watching random telly and ed was on it briefly explaining about bananas all being clones. Eh? I instantly looked this interesting fella up. This talk was so invigorating I’m inspired. Well done ed.

  • Good fats are so important for good brain and mental health. Stop lumping all fats the bad and the good ones into one category called “fat.”

  • I’m only 18 minutes in…I have always loved you Dr Ramani but wow a whole new level of love and respect! So grateful to have found your work/channel!

  • Dr. Ramani looks fantastic after her weight loss. It makes her face smaller with her eyes looking bigger. She is so smart! I’m so glad she chose psychology instead of finance.

  • Very difficult to hear her. She is really great! Only one thing I don’t agree with her. She should not preach anyone to waste food. We have no right to waste food just because we can afford to buy it. So when someone is at a restaurant and can’t finish please don’t push the plate away, instead ask for a doggy bag. At home make less, serve less. But PLEASE don’t waste food.

  • I don’t eat red snapper but i find that fact very disturbing. Pretty much knew this. As far as bottled water goes By a Brita the bottle are destroying our world because not everyone recycles. I have bottled water only for an emergency.

  • I have gained 10 pounds since a breakup and it will only steadily increase as times pass. I’m lonely and sad and I use food as distractions to help me not be…this video is painfully on point.

  • Love this video!
I used to be obese and would never lose weight because no matter what I ate, I ate a lot of it, and it was to fill a psychological hole..When I recognised this, I started to focus on WHY I was eating so bad/much..when I started eating healthy/exercising for my mental health, the weight loss was just a plus (Although previously it was the only goal)!!:)

  • The conclusion is true, but for the wrong reasons. That part with GMO is really ridiculous, and that reason with “bad food make bad cells” is just wrong and really sounds like esoteric nonsense. The real explanation is that junk foods, fast food and meat are unhealthy because they contain vast amounts of cholesterol, saturated fats, hormones and endotoxins. There again have been proven through many studies in the medical literature to increase risks of heart disease, obesity, depression, cancer and stroke. Whole plant foods, however, have been proved to be rich in fibre, be antioxidant, rich in vitamins, minerals and nutrition in general. For further education on nutritional science I recommend videos by plant based news or med. dr. Michael Gregers lectures. This video is well animated, is well intentioned and draws the right conclusion, but for the wrong reasons and justifications which sound like esoteric nonsense. And don’t get me wrong, I am a vegan and have subscribed to this video and watched all videos. Just wanted to correct some misinformation.

  • They don’t seem to take into account that eating healthy is also more expensive and time consuming. That’s one of the reasons why many poor people have so many health problems. Healthier and fresher foods are not only more expensive but you have to take time to cook them, you can’t just pop them in the microwave.

  • You’re gonna have to stay away from peanut butter and Jelly, cereal, pizza etc late around 4:30 pm when clock strikes 5pm I guess maybe start eating mixed vegetables from now on

  • True that junk eat junk, healthy eats healthy, cheers to natrual organic food i would eat a steak with big plate of steam veggies every meal.

  • The Tikka Masala one should of been a no brainer. Real Indians don’t eat meat, most of them are vegetarians for religious reasons.

  • They’re on the right track….. I prefer beef and other animal products to all those vegetables because they can be difficult to digest and their nutrients can be hard to absorb.

  • I might send this to my family, but then again, I can already hear the echo of their reply ringing in my ears: “excuses, excuses! how convenient for you to have found this video.” I personally think the video is spot on. Those who are thin, do well in life, and so on, generally get too much praise for their high motivation. Their high motivation is down to chance, like everything in life. They have the right genes and personality which allows them to make solid friendships, lasting family relationships, and so on, thus they are happy, thus they don´t need to comfort eat, they stay thin and being thin probably helps to find a partner, which only motivates more, and produces more happiness. Just as they are not to be praised overly for being thin, we must try not to judge overweight people for being overweight. It´s all down to a random allotment of life´s goods.

  • if fresh food is better and healthier it should be sold at your local dollar store. Healthy food options and easy access to them should not be just for the “rich”.
Poor and lazy people are usually unhealthy because they cant afford it or are just too lazy to grow their own food or might not have more than 500sq ft of living space.
if we want humans to eat healthy we should focus on make fresh and healthy food available to ALL of us.

  • 00:45 I’ve always wondered about the Chinese obsession with virility. There’s a billion of them you’d think they’d say “For the love of God stop!”

  • I just found this video today although it was posted in 2013. Strangely if you watch her recent videos she seems to have put on a lot of weight. I hope she is ok.

  • You are what you eat yes, to a point. But study epigenetics, psychosomatics and neurology enough and what you’ll find is that you are what you think. The food helps your body create your psycho-emotional interpretation of itself. You are what you think.

  • Food is important for good health. Also, prayer goes a long way with depression, but, you got to have the faith. After all, God made our brain s and our whole body for that matter. Use common sense in your diet and everything else you do, because stress is bad for us too.

  • When Michelle Obama said the exact same thing under the advice of top doctors and nutritionists, she was called a ‘radical’ who wanted to dictate our diets.

  • While this may be true to a certain degree, a great many people i.e. foodies around the world simply just love to eat and try different cuisines from around the world…period! Thus the current proliferation of cookbooks, recipe websites, food shows, the Food Network, cooking shows/competitions, restaurants some around since the 1700s, outdoor cafes and monster sized supermarkets, farm markets etc.! Europeans especially love to get together with friends and family at long tables often times outdoors, al fresco to connect and what else? Eat and drink! That happens here as well to a lesser extent and sometimes like on holidays like Thanksgiving, families get into big fights which end up with everyone losing their appetites! lol See the classic movie, “Home for the Holidays” to see what I mean! Foodies love food for the emotional component, yes, but also because of the tastes, the spiritual connection as well! Food feeds the soul in more ways than one. Some people just have bigger appetites than others! Cooking is another art form! Thanks for sharing

  • WOW. That was amazing. That was deep. I was getting choked up. Thank you for making this masterpiece and shining a light on what we tried to hide in the dark or pantry.

  • Great lecture. But dang, over 3,000,000 subscribers on this channel, this video has been out for nearly 2 months, and not even 1,000 views. Shows how much people really care about what they eat, I suppose.

  • It’s amazing how such an emotional video is so much in sync with science….it’s been proven that people suffer from food addiction and the dopamine it releases just like a person on drugs….a lack of satisfaction in our lives can lead us to overeat

  • Eat to live. Don’t live to eat❣️☀️ Picky eating is the first step to loosing weight. I’ve done it with success. I wish the reversal

  • 1. We need to humble ourselves b4 the LORD our maker..:-)

  • Because we are surrounded with tones of tasteful food all around us. Food relaxes us, makes us happy..and it is always close to us, gives us comfort in a second (better and faster than any friend would). But problem is that all that “magic” lasts very shortly, and that price for it is often very high.

  • Dr. Ramani looks fantastic after her weight loss. It makes her face smaller with her eyes looking bigger. She is so smart! I’m so glad she chose psychology instead of finance.

  • Went 25% protein grass fed grass finished, 65% extra virgin olive oil/coconut oil, mackeral/herring/cod/”keto”, heavy leafy green salads, intermittent fasting regimen, hunger disappeared, 102 pounds disappeared, mood elevated, sleep like a rock, blood sugar normalized, blood pressure stabilized. Food’s a drug.

  • Never do we hear the psychology behind what to eat! I love this! Thanks so much for the information and I plan to use it. Amazing!

  • This lady blew up like a balloon from overeating. This is an old video. She can’t even control herself from pigging out. How can she lecture others?

  • I absolutely loved this video. I learned a lot and it was a illuminating moment, to learn about mindfulness and about listening to no one but yourself and to learn that eating healthy and making healthy choices is not an easy task for other people as well. I kept thinking that maybe I struggle more with food and what I eat or don’t eat than other people, and maybe that’s not true.

  • American Cheese is not cheese…its oil and water. We were told that margarine is a healthy alternative to butter and that butter is bad for your health…..but, actually the exact opposite is true.
Pringles ain’t really potatoes…… it’s really just some artificial slurry that’s been heated up and shaped like potato chips with anemic amounts of potato flakes thrown up in it..
Naked smoothies says on the label… ‘no sugar added’……but a lot of sugar has been added.
Crispy Seaweed in America is usually just some disguised cheap cabbage…and they charging you full price for some Seaweed.
Red Snapper is not really Red Snapper…It’s a different fish (a cheap fish) & they’ve been charging you full price for a Red Snapper.
Aquafina Water is just filtered tap water.
Pumpkin Spice is just artificial flavoring that was created by food scientists.
You think that Bananas are natural fruits…but they ain’t!

  • Mann loving hearing another area of life from your talks.
This is scary. We were not told stories in youth. Lotsa food yes. But no stores.
    Thank you for your work.

  • I think there is not a better speaker on psychological health than Dr. Ramani. A true master of her profession, she is so intelligent and speaks with such eloquence in a way that is understandable to anyone. This was a great talk by her and she delivers some information that goes beyond eating. Excellent.

  • 30% of depressed people get better in 3 months with no treatment. That’s a repeated finding in research. So 32% of those on this special diet get better? That’s not a significant difference. What’s making the people feel better? We don’t know yet for sure.
Looking for the solid research. Nothing mentioned in this video fits that. Looking forward to the results of real clinical trials.

  • Tell your patience to oxygenate learn to oxygenate learn to breathe your fabric is oxygen-starved that’s why you speak the way you do because you don’t know take the initiative it’s your responsibility Aloha from Hawaii

  • You only need a few brain cells to realise American burger cheese shite slices are not cheese at all. And fewer brain cells to actually eat them.

  • I’m glad this doctor is helping people understand nutrition…. but it’s just a shame that this is what it has come down to in this modern day and age in countries like America where people actually have to be taught what others used to know about food, real food, eating right and how it can affect you.
For example I would never order a pizza from most American chain stores…. full of chemicals, preservatives… all kinds of junk…. most of them don’t even use real cheese but some non dairy product with GMO soy

  • I just wanna know who disliked this video they must be idiots and stupid how can they dislike such a legend song which never dies

  • GREAT talk. Listen to your body and to prof Lustig from University of California as well. NO SUGAR IN YOUR DIET. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM

It is difficult to listen your body when you consume prepackaged food. Do not believe in calories figures either.

  • Being called fat as a kid because I was the tallest in my class, so my clothing size number was greater, impacted my entire adulthood.
Size 9 dress at 5’ 11’ is NOT fat, but after a few good years, when the guys hit their growth spurt and I wasn’t the tallest anymore, and only in high school & university, I eventually succumbed to the belief that I was fat and became fat and am still fat 20 years later, although I eat healthier than most people I know. Parents can be so cruel and the effects are long lasting and hard to shed.
Never mind being raised by a covert narc mother, then marrying one, which is why I ended up at this video in the first place.
She has so much to share that I can relate with!

  • Idk if I like all the vegetables or I think it is good for me to eat them all no matter what. But, there is something behind my all-okay food habit.
I feel like I needed validation since early childhood. And that’s I can eat the worst if vegetables.
That has turned the debate now to ‘what’s the best way to eat’.

  • I’m 30, I’m on $115,000 a year, clean plate club BMI, 23.

Getting a divorce, on antidepressants, they work, I’m happy.

Been on keto diet, it works!

Work with people with mental illness.

    University degree.

    This Dr is AMAZING!!!!

  • A lot of good info here but a lot is wishy-washy also. We should trust our instincts, except when we can’t. And you shouldn’t outlaw junk food, except when you should, and oh by the way there probably is a biochemical aspect to addiction to junk food. I agree that emotional overeating is a problem, but we generally aren’t overeating strawberries and plain brown rice. We all know what a healthy meal is and can go to any newsstand to find out? Au contraire. There’s 50 different ideas on that one newsstand, that all contradict each other. And we all know when we are full? Not when we’ve been emotionally eating processed foods our whole life! I know when I’ve had enough plain baked potatoes. On the other hand, I’m never full from Oreos. Yes, there’s a lot of psychology that goes into this, but there’s also an awful lot of biochemistry that we can’t ignore. Some people can eat seemingly normally in this food environment, and others can’t. Just like some people can have one alcoholic drink and it’s fine, and others can’t. Lastly, if she’s saying that kids overdose on sweets because they weren’t given access, does that mean alcoholics overdose because they weren’t given enough access? This topic is just way way way more complicated than this lecture leads on. And she ignores her instincts and eats less than her body wants because she wants to be in media??? Hmm…

  • Loved this content so much. I have officially gone 2 days without meat… truly nothing spectacular but sadly the longest I have ever gone without it.
My goal is to make it a new lifestyle and plan on doing that by watching one educational video a day.
I have been taught all my life how to cook and eat meat. Time to learn something different. It will be worth the effort

  • Sorry, but don’t agree. You start by letting us know that your cousins died of malnutrition and that there were people facing hunger in the streets where you were born. And, then you preach how one should not listen to stakeholders about not leaving food on the plate? So basically alone thru that statement you say go ahead and waste even though there are people that do not get one warm meal even a day!? Instead a better message might be don’t load your plate up in the first place. Don’t eat at a place that gives you an oversized crepe.

  • Cravings are created, not by you but by our culture. You are responsible to understand how they want you to eat carbs and you are determined to eat fruits and vegatables along with a healthy source of protein. Beans and nuts are a great alternative source of protein which allows you to eat less while still obtaining protein and your digestive tract will thank you. Meat protein is hard on your system so its always good to give it a rest. And yes you need to at least walk. Exercise is a requirement. Please.

  • I grew up in a country where, at some point, all the shelves in the shops were empty and the government distributed food coupons but there was very little food on the market in general. I would not have dreamt about leaving something on my plate, not only because of “the hungry Etiopian children” but mainly because I knew how much time my mum had spent in the queues to get anything to eat. That respect for food has stayed with me until today; I buy frugally, I hardly ever throw away anything edible and I am still skinny:-) So, it goes to show that not every child who emptied the plate to make the mother happy automatically becomes an obese adult with a problematic relationship with food.

  • another great read, actually a classic to my way of thinking,is “the 3 faces of love” by Charles Hauck. Speaks directly to how people react to change and “countermoves” to restore status quo and how to overcome. There comes a point where we stop discussing and move to action “boycotting” and this is when others react. Unless you are Jesus, Gandhi or Mother Theresa,or the likes,no one respects the martyr(well maybe after they’re gone..lol)

  • Lost me at eggs… can see a portion of the science behind the studies pertaining to a percentage of people, but not everyone. Other things on this list, thumbs up to the facts. But yeaaaah.

  • Gosh…… why just not get small portions to begin with then push the plate away! Its not rocket science go back and get more if you’re still hungry. Plate sizes is what matters.

  • SO, they’re not UNHEALTHY so much.. maybe just in the lines of telling someone; “i’ll go pick up pizza for dinner”, and they get some cheeseburgers? (type of analogy there)

  • This is gold, for me anyway. I have a babygirl and I kept offering the spoon. Not till the bowl was empty but still It didn’t even feel good, but I thought otherwise she wouldn’t het enough nutrients. This makes me realize that 1 I don’t have to be so insecure and 2 fear is a bad coach

  • 00:45 I’ve always wondered about the Chinese obsession with virility. There’s a billion of them you’d think they’d say “For the love of God stop!”

  • It’s very difficult to hear but worth putting your face to the speaker. I love Dr. Ramani Durvasula. She’s so kind and courageous and vulnerable and authentic and brilliant. And she’s so pretty (with or without makeup) and a beautiful person! Thank you for following your instincts finally, Ramani, and following the path that led you to do this.

  • Is that Bethesday Game Recycling T-Shirt a design you got from somewhere or is that gonna be new merch?
    Because I really want that.

  • Look. The right foods are in front of your face. Only you decide what to put in your mouth. If you dont work out or are large, as an adult, you can blame no one but yourself. You just need to retrain your brain.

  • so many idiots in the comments pretend that they’re evolutionary scientists by watching a few youtube videos and science documentaries

  • Can we please talk about how

“M’aiq is getting hungry, they say you are what you eat
They’re right, I eat so much pussy I’m almost a Wood Elf, but I’m a Khajiit”

is like the most brutal way one could just erase a whole race out of existence and send them to the shadow realm.
    please.

  • Gosh…… why just not get small portions to begin with then push the plate away! Its not rocket science go back and get more if you’re still hungry. Plate sizes is what matters.

This was determined by Johana Budwig in the early 1950s.
Budwig was the most successful person on earth at curing cancer throughout the 20th century.

  • I think there is not a better speaker on psychological health than Dr. Ramani. A true master of her profession, she is so intelligent and speaks with such eloquence in a way that is understandable to anyone. This was a great talk by her and she delivers some information that goes beyond eating. Excellent.

  • I think the little girl who has been picky on when and what she eats sounds like Autism. That is not a bad word. She is different and that is okay.

  • You wouldn’t plant a banana from a seed anyway. The plants grow suckers (young plants shoot from the old ones root). Farmers gather those for replanting. Once the bunch of bananas is cut from the tree, that tree is as good as dead.

  • So what you’re saying is whether or not we overeat is dependant, among other things, on other people and our relationships with them
That sucks, I’d like to be more independent than that

  • I live in Scotland so wen you were saying about curry and Glasgow and show a picture of Kilmarnock so Scotland is not in 1704 well it is in 2020 healthy USA

  • For Number 5…I have eaten “Rocky Mountain Oysters” many times….and I knew exactly what they where…in fact, I have been to restaurants (including the famous “Big Texan”) where the waiters always informed you that they where not oysters…so, there is NO deception here..do your homework!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’m only 18 minutes in…I have always loved you Dr Ramani but wow a whole new level of love and respect! So grateful to have found your work/channel!

  • The beyond meat burger is nothing but chemicals. Not a single piece of vegetables. I Googled cuz I wanted 2 try it. Now I’m not gonna even touch it.

  • I used to sell water filters and test water. I tested every bottled water and Aquarian was actually the only one that is pure and clean. I love your channel but now I’m not sure how true you are. I’m disappointed

  • The Tikka Masala one should of been a no brainer. Real Indians don’t eat meat, most of them are vegetarians for religious reasons.

  • Pringle’s may only be 42% potato, but regular potato chips are only about 60-65% potato as well. The rest is that “healthy” stuff known as oil.

I like Naked juice but i didnt know Pepsi made it. I checked the Naked website and Pepsi’s name isnt mention on it anywhere. Pepsi was sued about the misleading sugar claims

  • Cow Milk is for baby cows! To make cheese for humans you need to starve the baby cafe from mother ‘s milk and milk the mother cow, usually when mother is spent she is killed for her meat. Educated yourself Dr. Ramani about Animal abuse!

  • Chicken Tikka Masala Origin:

The origin of the dish is not certain. Some trace the origins of the dish to the Indian community in Britain and others claim that the dish was created on the Indian Subcontinent.

  • I like her and what she has to say but do we have to spend time talking about “kids”? I don’t care about how these women feed their kids. I am interested in an adult view of food and how to relate to food now that I am an adult. Discuss weight loss for adults whose parents might have made mistakes when they were growing up, please.

  • One thing that people need to realize is that GMOs aren’t technically bad for you……. There is always a reason an organism is genetically modified. Take corn ad an example, none genetically modified corn isn’t even edible.

  • When Michelle Obama said the exact same thing under the advice of top doctors and nutritionists, she was called a ‘radical’ who wanted to dictate our diets.

  • What is interesting is the variety of foods that make up an American Diet are native to all around the Globe. Hence the diet of global champions or/and traveler.

  • OMG! This is not new. Indian texts of ayurveda address how food and life style affect not just your brain but also your health in general, including emotional balance. These texts were written thousands of years ago.

  • I just found this video today although it was posted in 2013. Strangely if you watch her recent videos she seems to have put on a lot of weight. I hope she is ok.

  • Went 25% protein grass fed grass finished, 65% extra virgin olive oil/coconut oil, mackeral/herring/cod/”keto”, heavy leafy green salads, intermittent fasting regimen, hunger disappeared, 102 pounds disappeared, mood elevated, sleep like a rock, blood sugar normalized, blood pressure stabilized. Food’s a drug.

  • They’re on the right track….. I prefer beef and other animal products to all those vegetables because they can be difficult to digest and their nutrients can be hard to absorb.

  • I’m glad this doctor is helping people understand nutrition…. but it’s just a shame that this is what it has come down to in this modern day and age in countries like America where people actually have to be taught what others used to know about food, real food, eating right and how it can affect you.

  • This is a good video at it’s simplest form and I see ppl in the comments trying to scientifically tear it a part! GTFOH and get a life… if you can’t understand what it’s truly trying to say then you have more issues than bad eating habits!

  • Scotland will always be a part of Great Britain. Great Britain is the name of the large island it is on, not the polity properly known as the United Kingdom (U.K.).

  • I love oyster! Especially baby oyster. I think I need to feed my mom’s oyster. She’s a very moody and angry woman. Maybe eating oyster will calm her down. The point is eat everything proportion. Then, you’ll be fine.

  • They don’t seem to take into account that eating healthy is also more expensive and time consuming. That’s one of the reasons why many poor people have so many health problems. Healthier and fresher foods are not only more expensive but you have to take time to cook them, you can’t just pop them in the microwave.

  • I love how Susan plays devils advocate all throughout the segment in defense of our “American” diets. I appreciated her asking about fruit loops. I’m with ya, sister….

  • My father was given food instead of apologies as a love substitute..develped comfort eating and obesity..I inherited a weird relationship with food surprised?Old vid but timely for men

  • Why don’t you make videos on scientifically proven information instead of using some random and obscure blog as a source of information? Although you make pretty nice animations, that fact makes people reconsider the subscription to your channel actually(

  • they must shop every other day or weekly for Mediterranean diet… those food have short shelf life… healthy though but, not practical if weather/apocalyptic situation happen…

  • Food is a costly antidepressant. The very reason we eat so much is cause the urge to eat more is genes. Our ancestor cave man used to eat in bulk as they didn’t have any guarantee if they will get food next day.We might live in a world rich in foods, but blame genes. If you’re hungry and want to ease mood, eat fruits. Eating too much is a COSTLY antidepressant. You know what I mean by costly right? Eating too much american way and junk food is causing diabetes and lot of health issues

  • People eat because they do not know how to engage in mental activity that enriches them and their soul. People run away to anything that does not require them to understand what their emotional and mental needs are. They get used to not knowing themselves.

  • Food is important for good health. Also, prayer goes a long way with depression, but, you got to have the faith. After all, God made our brain s and our whole body for that matter. Use common sense in your diet and everything else you do, because stress is bad for us too.

  • What about when you under eat? That makes you feel more isolated than being to fat, because you want to eat what others are eating but are to full to consume or just don’t like the food. Plus everyone calls you sickly and thin

  • I’m still shook over the “almost a wood elf, but i’m a khajit” shit gets me to this day, because not only is it a sick burn but bosmer and khajit are actually practically the same race. Both are formless beastmen, but one gained stable form from a covenant with y’ffre and the other gained forms fit for purpose from Azurah and the moons. Shit’s too big brained.

  • Ah…not so fast!
Yes, fish and vegetables and leafy greens are probably good for you but the occasional cheeseburger isn’t going to stunt your brain!
There’s a lot of protein in that cheeseburger!
And the body does require a certain amount of fat in the diet! It’s natural and the way humans have been eating for thousands of years!
The ancient Greeks had a good approach to eating and to life in general: ‘Everything in moderation!’

  • CAFO are not farms. Farms are ecological. And we are really what we eat, which means animals, without enough animal foods we can’t be healthy.

  • beautiful explanation, very simple to understand. thank you. Most if not all Pharmaceuticals/doctors don’t approve of such videos. (now we know why).

  • You are what you eat yes, to a point. But study epigenetics, psychosomatics and neurology enough and what you’ll find is that you are what you think. The food helps your body create your psycho-emotional interpretation of itself. You are what you think.

  • Like Dr. Durvasula but trying to listen at this volume is exhausting. I’ll try again on a third device another day, but it is counterproductive to record at a volume so inaccessible.

  • Simple solution that works for me: Get enough sleep. When you haven’t had enough, your brain mistakenly thinks you need to eat. If you get enough sleep, you won’t even think about food when you get up. The difference is massive. In modern society, people are short of sleep. That’s where the overweight tendency comes from.

Another thing: Compress the bulk of your food intake each day into a small range of hours. It gives your stomach ‘time off’. I have found this has reduced how much food my stomach can take.

Also beware being the Eater Of Last Resort in your household, the person who finishes off food that would otherwise expire and end up in the bin. In order to avoid the sinful feeling of wasting food, you will end up over-eating.

Beware: This is my guess. It is what works for me.

  • beautiful explanation, very simple to understand. thank you. Most if not all Pharmaceuticals/doctors don’t approve of such videos. (now we know why).

  • So true stayed in marriage for his kids more than myself, and in the end when he was done, so were they.‍♀️. Never set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.

  • Mann loving hearing another area of life from your talks.
This is scary. We were not told stories in youth. Lotsa food yes. But no stores.
    Thank you for your work.

  • It’s amazing how such an emotional video is so much in sync with science….it’s been proven that people suffer from food addiction and the dopamine it releases just like a person on drugs….a lack of satisfaction in our lives can lead us to overeat

  • I see moms giving the baby a bottle for anything. The baby wants to “talk” or has a reaction to something in the environment and they get a bottle in their mouth and automatically take it in.

  • Wow, I love the idea of making the food difficult or time-consuming to access and then doing the apple test and asking the FLABS questions. I was never overweight until I quit smoking in my later twenties but a babysitter I’d had at age 3 once wrote a poem about me and in the poem she wrote that when I was bored toddler, I wanted a cookie, so I’ve always known that I eat when bored. I would like to stop doing that. I will begin implementing those three techniques TODAY! Thank you!

  • they must shop every other day or weekly for Mediterranean diet… those food have short shelf life… healthy though but, not practical if weather/apocalyptic situation happen…

  • SO, they’re not UNHEALTHY so much.. maybe just in the lines of telling someone; “i’ll go pick up pizza for dinner”, and they get some cheeseburgers? (type of analogy there)

  • Because we are surrounded with tones of tasteful food all around us. Food relaxes us, makes us happy..and it is always close to us, gives us comfort in a second (better and faster than any friend would). But problem is that all that “magic” lasts very shortly, and that price for it is often very high.

Please.

  • CAFO are not farms. Farms are ecological. And we are really what we eat, which means animals, without enough animal foods we can’t be healthy.

  • great! Probably the use of willpower in the mornings is one of my diet “secrets”… just packing healthy low calorie food in the morning and taking with me. But no money to buy sth at lunchtime. So I end up eating my healthy food, even if I have cravings in the afternoon as I don’t have a choice.

  • Dr.Ramani you look so well balanced. I am so happy for you. I will be buying your book I am in a transition point in my life as well. I am trying to to get back to my independent self. The woman I was before I married a Narc who brought a stepson Narc and his birth mother into my peace filled life. Also I will be getting a dog as now my daughter is 34 Very balanced And my stepson is still living in his mothers basement and blaming everyone for his chaos also he is now diagnosed as Psychopathic with boarderline personality disorder. He is someone I never want to see again. I will be closing on a home 6/26/2020 my Independence Day

  • This has been reiterated so many times and yet I see some people eating junk shit all the time and they live to be 100 and I see health nuts dying at 40 from a heart attack. Just live your life and quit worrying about everything. It’s killing you.

  • You wouldn’t plant a banana from a seed anyway. The plants grow suckers (young plants shoot from the old ones root). Farmers gather those for replanting. Once the bunch of bananas is cut from the tree, that tree is as good as dead.

  • I live in Scotland so wen you were saying about curry and Glasgow and show a picture of Kilmarnock so Scotland is not in 1704 well it is in 2020 healthy USA

  • I see moms giving the baby a bottle for anything. The baby wants to “talk” or has a reaction to something in the environment and they get a bottle in their mouth and automatically take it in.

  • Lost me at eggs… can see a portion of the science behind the studies pertaining to a percentage of people, but not everyone. Other things on this list, thumbs up to the facts. But yeaaaah.

  • I’m not exactly believing the part about India. I am a 4th generation Indian immigrant and garlic and onion are staples of most spicy dishes. In fact, many recipes, especially ayurvedic remedies that are edible were not the best tasting. Can you quote your reference on the onion and garlic thing wrt to the aggression.

  • What about when you under eat? That makes you feel more isolated than being to fat, because you want to eat what others are eating but are to full to consume or just don’t like the food. Plus everyone calls you sickly and thin

  • Naked Smoothies have natural sugar from the fruits, there is no added sugar to it. Soda has sugar from high glucose corn syrup. That is not the same thing.

  • What is interesting is the variety of foods that make up an American Diet are native to all around the Globe. Hence the diet of global champions or/and traveler.

  • This is the most bullshit explanation, instead of trying to promote school of life products. Research enough, this thing is very well explained in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. Its cause of genes.

  • Chicken Tikka Masala Origin:

The origin of the dish is not certain. Some trace the origins of the dish to the Indian community in Britain and others claim that the dish was created on the Indian Subcontinent.

    Source: Wikipedia

  • Like Dr. Durvasula but trying to listen at this volume is exhausting. I’ll try again on a third device another day, but it is counterproductive to record at a volume so inaccessible.

  • One thing that people need to realize is that GMOs aren’t technically bad for you……. There is always a reason an organism is genetically modified. Take corn ad an example, none genetically modified corn isn’t even edible.

  • I do eat butter and i dont eat margarine. I dont trust the chemistry of margarine.

I like Naked juice but i didnt know Pepsi made it. I checked the Naked website and Pepsi’s name isnt mention on it anywhere. Pepsi was sued about the misleading sugar claims

Hmm…

  • Cow Milk is for baby cows! To make cheese for humans you need to starve the baby cafe from mother ‘s milk and milk the mother cow, usually when mother is spent she is killed for her meat. Educated yourself Dr. Ramani about Animal abuse!

  • This song and “Clover Cage Mirror Mirror” are two songs keeping me sane during these tough times. I’m here sending love to everyone and just letting you know things will get better…..

  • Great lecture. But dang, over 3,000,000 subscribers on this channel, this video has been out for nearly 2 months, and not even 1,000 views. Shows how much people really care about what they eat, I suppose.
