So many of us are having lemon water each morning anyway, so just add some. Turmeric skyrocketed in popularity recently, but it’s actually not new to the spice scene. This bright yellow-orange spice has been traced all the way back to 600 B.C. Turmeric is related to ginger, and the two look pretty similar until you start peeling and the bold color of turmeric gives it away.To help you incorporate this peppery herb into your cooking, we’re sharing our top tips for. Strain the mixture over the ice and top with fizzy water, tasting as you go to determine your preferred ratio.

But cooking easily destroys these fragile molecules. The recipes below are designed to retain the best of both the taste and health benefits of this spice. Here are a few of many possible dishes in which turmeric gives a flavorful, health-promoting lift to already nutritious foods.

  • I think it’s the pepperin in black pepper that activates the curcummin in the turmeric. Other peppers have different compounds that bring heat. Try it, if u really can’t take black pepper or try slowly increasing tiny doses of pepper to normalize your body’s response.

I recommend his free app called Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen. I didn’t know if I was supposed to peel it? I’m glad you mentioned where you bought it. I bought mine in an organic store and it was $17 per pound. I’m going to shop for it at the Indian store next time! I’m also glad your readers mentioned the teeth whiting aspect. I was actually concerned turmeric may yellow my teeth because it yellowed my cutting board and towel! Yikes! Going to add to daily regimen

I asked the pharmacist why the cumin was added & he didn’t know. I’ve been juicing 2 mos mostly using super greens, beets, carrots & ginger root. I am almost 65 yrs old, lost my thyroid to cancer a yr & a half ago, that has now spread to between my lungs & nine more cancer nodes in my neck. I’m still fighting the fight. • Here’s What It Is turmeric and Why You Should Add It to Your Diet, see here https://beinghealthiest.com/reasons-you-should-add-turmeric-in-your-daily-diet/

  • you all realise the quantity of curcumin in 1 tablespoon of turmeric is VERY VERY small right? Now add that to the fact that its bioavailability is very low (pepper and especially lipids increase it but not by much). Ah… curcumin is thermosensitive so adding boiling water or any form of heat is the worst you can do.

  • Very interesting! Thank you so much for the advice. We have tried three simple Italian recipes with turmeric: @

  • I studied Ayurveda many years ago and one recipe comes to mind for sore throat:

    1) Place the organic salt of your choice a couple teaspoons in a glass of warm/hot water
    2) Place couple teaspoons of turmeric in a glass of cold water

OK now gargle the sea/Himalayan salt for as long as you can, spit out.
Then gargle the turmeric cold water for as long as you can, then spit out.

Do this on the hour then three times daily for as long as you have a sore throat, whenever I get a sore throat I do this immediately and the soreness goes within a day or two!

  • Hi, I have started using TUMERIC also. I am using the powder form as well as a daily supplement. I plan to start using the fresh TUMERIC to see if I can get a better effect of anti-inflammatory in my diet. I no longer eat any processed foods or sugar/salt. I have switched to sea salt and stevia. No soda. I have to get on another site of hours because I’m not sure if I’m in the right place to conversate back and forth. I enjoy everything you teach on. I have conns syndrome, abnormal adrenal gland where I lose Pottasium at an excellerated rate. I take what is called a cocktail, a combination of 3 meds daily to keep my pottasium up which is comprised of Pottasium/Spironolactone/Lisinopril. Since changing my diet 6 weeks ago I have lost about 29 lbs and am able to stand her around much better. I’m back in physical therapy and seeking alternative ways of healing. I having even scratched the surface with my health issues but it’s the adrenal issue that keeps blocking me from being able to move forward with certain alternative methods because my system is super sensitive. I cannot do any CAFFIENE or any type of energy booster like CHIA or caffiene or steroids, they all give me major spasms so I have to be careful. in this journey I am my own guinea pig and it is painful but necessary at times. such as the CHIA seeds, they caused my system to react as if I was diabetic and hi metabolism (many horrible spasms) but eventually recovered when I was off of the seeds for a few days.

  • Respect and honour to the whole world thanks for tips heaven on earth love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love

  • Too effing funny! I have some turmeric root. I’m going to try it! Btw,

  • that video really made me smile the whole time you were filming. Love your natural way and sense of adventure and fun. Nice grated in salads, soups, tea and rice.

  • what’s so special abouth the 30th day that turmeric suddenly decides to surprise you. Has turmeric been informed that it needs to show results on the 30th day

  • From what I’ve read and heard ( though I’ve never seen any scientific references): Dried turmeric is point less as only 3% contains the sought after curcumin. Dried also seems less likely to be beneficial in general beyond that fact, but certainly good for use as a seasoning. Unless it’s paired with other spices (most named is black pepper to increase bioavailability) and a fat source, it’s likely your not getting any anti inflammatory or gut health benefits. My experience has only been with dried up until today as I start subbing dried (I was consuming 1tsp per day with my smoothie) with 2gms fresh raw turmeric. I already included 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1/2 tsp of black pepper so that will remain. Like many, I seek help with general joint pain. From what I see it’s recommended to skin the turmeric prior to consumption.

  • I am from Pakistan and we use turmeric in everything. I have a different question. Are eggs good for u or not? I have been getting so many mixed opinions and was hoping you can clarify it?:) same goes for Coconut oil, lately different studies say that you can use it topically on the skin etc but not consume it in anyway… Can you please help me figure it out?:)

  • Although I’m 4 years late in discovering your channel via a search on fresh turmeric, I’m so glad I did!!! I ’bout fell off my chair and wet my pants laughing so hard as I watched you eat the fresh/raw turmeric. May I suggest that you peel the skin before eating or using turmeric for cooking purposes. • I have heard, however.. that in order for tumeric to be really effective in it’s whole food form you should pair it with fresh black pepper or something.

  • I love turmeric! I use it to season chicken with a bit of cinnamon( great flavor), I use it with steamed vegetables and also as main ingredient of a facial mask.

I just learned that our bodies try to get rid of it as soon as possible and that is why you take it with black pepper so I did. The pepper is hot and the turmeric doesn’t smell like dirt after I washed it, I could barely taste it.
I’ve also read we’re sapposed to cook it with a fat as well as black pepper. I need more information and now I need to try it w/o the pepper.

  • I haven’t cooked with turmeric before but I have eaten it in some recipes.
One amazing experience I have had was trying new moisturizer for my face which contained turmeric and it made my skin soooo amazing after the first use!!! My skin never looked so beautiful and radiant! I know some Indian cultures use this on their skin as well before wedding ceremonies!

  • But which turmeric, we have so many turmeric, like we use different turmeric in kitchen and we use different turmeric for face and kitchen Turmeric contains colour and some other chemicals also

  • I prefer mine cold. Turmeric. ginger, cardamon and cinnamon. I use Coconut milk for the oil that activates the turmeric. I just like the taste, any health benefits are a bonus.

  • Hi…using raw turmeric is really good..you can chop in rounds and soak it in salt water…for min 20 minutes. and add into your salads and in burger etc or you can rat as it is it tastes good….☺

  • It also makes a good recipe for spicy Parmesan baked potato fries. Just cut the potatoes in wedges after you peel & rinse them. I usually mix my Parmesan, panko, cayenne pepper, & turmeric powder together. And toss the potatoes in them. Spray a oven pan with olive oil and lay the potatoes on it a inch apart. But if you have kids and want to make this dish for the family just toss potatoes in the panko flour and Parmesan. And just use turmeric & cayenne pepper in some mayo or ranch and it can be a spicy dip for those who like spicy food and those that don’t can just eat it with ketchup or plain mayo or ranch.

  • Dried, ground Turmeric is a fantastic teeth whitener! Odd as this sound, it’s actually very effective, I use it all the time. Just mix a 12 tsp in a half a cup for water and brush your teeth with it until its all used up, then follow up with your reg tooth paste. First day you’ll notice a great difference ( even against coffee stains), within a week you’ll have a Hollywood smile:) Just got to watch you clothing and keep rising you outer mouth with water as you go.
Oh I bought a instant pot thanks to you, I love it!!! Thank you:) I could you you link as I live in Ireland. Look forward to trying all you recipes. Keep up the great work, very much appreciated.

  • I had never used turmeric before but I bought some for this soup recipe, Serbian Chicken and Eggplant Soup from  Eating Well magazine.  It was delicious.  I would like to find other ways to use this spice!  I have included the recipe link below if you wanted to look at it.  Thank you so much for the 101!  I am going to try the tea but with the dried spices because I don’t like chunky tea  😉 http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/serbian_chicken_eggplant_soup.html

  • I drink 1 L of warm water every morning in empty stomach…then when should I consume this turmeric solution to get those benefits? I mean to ask, can the turmeric solution be consumed continuously after that 1 L of water or after some break?

  • Hey Jill, I have been eating raw turmeric for a while now. It’s easily available in markets here in India. Never have I eaten it with the skin on. I try and avoid eating the skin because it’s a root. That means the skin of the turmeric remains in direct contact with the soil before being harvested.

  • I fallow all that recipe you has bend use and I feel so good I’m soccer player I get more energy and so powerful then before I feel like champ thanks for everything

  • Okay, think of Arnold in Kindergarten Cop saying “It’s not a Tumor-ic.” Now you’re probably recognize the extra consonant you’re dropping. It’s Tur-mer-ic…..Coupled consonants are hard for us Americans. In fact, the fruit chews Mamba (which are worlds beyond Starburst,) accidentally spell the ingredient as “Tumeric” and have for over 20 years.

Also! Anti-mi-crob-i-al! Again, you’re dropping a syllable, you silly man.

  • Dani, this tea was Amazing! I don’t think I’ll go back to bagged tea again. I couldn’t find Tumeric in my veggie section so I had to settle for the 3 year old jarred Tumeric that I’ve rarely ever used (most of bought it for a particular recipe) and the scent was still potent.

*I heard you can also use Tumeric in an acne ‘mask’ due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

  • my daughter spilled our container of ground turmeric and it stained our kitchen floor and dustpan! lol. i love sneaking it several dishes.

  • Thumps up for fresh turmeric I love to add it with fruits in the juicer i usually use green apples fresh turmeric fresh ginger celery and carrots to make my juice. Thank you for the very informative video ❤️

  • Recently found this channel and it’s pretty great…the only complaint I have is for the overlays that say “a natural organic way to LOOSE weight.” Get rid of the extra O. That is all.

  • Adding black pepper increases its absorption by 2000%. Also, powders coming from India are often tainted with a form of orange lead as a means adding weight. Research whether or not your powder is independently tested.

  • One thing that is important is to add black pepper to turmeric. It will increase its bioactivity. 1/4 tea spoon of black papper for 1 tea spoon of turmeric. Do not use black pepper if you are not tolerante to it. Hope this will help Drew…!

  • Okay, So I am starting to use fresh Ginger root and fresh Turmeric root in my Nutribullet blasts but I cannot find how much I should use.  Someone said to use 1.5 to 3 grams of Turmeric but without a scale I cannot tell how much that is.  In terms of the size of the chunk of root, is that one or 2 inchs?  Just don’t want to OD on this great spice.

  • i just tried it for the first time too. i would say it has a mild taste of parsely with the consistency of an uncooked potato and then youg get an after taste which tastes more like that typical dried tumeric taste but still very mild

  • I’ll leave mine in the ground till I want to eat it, it stays fresh and very juicy that way yours looked like it had been out of the ground several days, mine looks Orange right out of the ground and eat it like a carrot and it tastes very similar to a carrot only grows much better here in Florida then carrots seem to

  • With coconut milk, almond, or regular milk. With a dash of cinnamon. If you want it sweet you can add raw organic honey. It’s good cold or hot. It’s a great substitute for tea at night when you warm it

  • it can be added to chilly. lentil soups, chicken stews, indian currys, oatmeal ( savoury kind), drink a cup of milk with tumeric is also very healing and strengthening according to indians. we use tumeric in our currys and vegetables lentils daily.

  • tumeric is also in bread and butter pickles. at least my homemade pickles. I saw raw tumeric in the grocery store for the first time last week. I’m going to get some and add it to my smoothies.

  • It’s expensive in the regular stores, if you go to an Arabic store or middle eastern market they have it for very cheap cause it’s used in a lot of middle eastern cooking….you can put it on anything really neat fish veggies and so on

  • Authority of this youtube channel didn’t tell that which type of type of turmeric we have to use for better result……dried turmeric powder or raw turmeric….. would you tell please…… Thank you……

  • bowling water makes your products lose most 80 or 90% of their antyoxident and others vertues

  • Tumeric is amazing I have used it for a year and a half now after being diagnosed with large intestine inflammation today as I speak I No longer have any inflammation…

  • I put Tumeric on just about everything. Eggs, shrimp….a little in most everything. My cardiologist told me that it was the ultimate immune system booster. Use it in something every day!

  • I find this everywhere (dirt-cheap!) so I feel guilty for not using it more often. It stains everything that’s what “demotivates” me. Any tips on how to make clean up less stressful?:)

  • Salad dressings from the store are garbage. I started making my own with avocado, olive oil, water and turmeric. Add whatever you like. Maybe a spash of Apple Cider Vinegar. Normally it’s just olive oil and ACV.

  • Today during training I inflamed my left wrist and have been looking at medicinal safe routes to take away the pain. I remembered your channel I subscribed to and found my turmeric remedy. Thank you!

  • I have been taking tumeric now for about 3 months, I am 84 I have thyroid, angina, fluid, and it is a damn pest but thanks for all your information. From edinburgh

  • Turmeric does not whiten teeth, I love Turmeric but it’s efficacy is mostly anti-inflammatory. It made my teeth super yellow and my teeth were blazing white naturally. Why are you spreading misinformation? This is criminal. Turmeric is used as a dye, anyone who brushes their teeth with it will have yellow teeth. Thumbs down. You are a liar!

  • How do you take it? I’m trying to get healthier loose weight get off some of my medications and control pain as I’ve had 8 back surgeries. So I wanna learn to take it the most effective way. Could someone give me some advice. Thanks

  • START TAKING TUMERIC EVERYDAY LIKE I DID AND GET LIVER DAMAGE:D THEN DRAW A NICE PHAT LAW SUIT.. TURMERIC ONLY WORKS WELL IF YOU TAKE IT WITH PEPPER.. CAUSE THE BLACK PEPPER RELEASES A ENZYME IN THE LIVER THAT ALLOWS THE TUMERIC TO NOT BE SEEN AS RANDOM DIRT OR A ENEMY TO THE BODY..

I’ve heard so much about this miracle root and now am willing to try it. I would like to win the juicer. Can u plz enter me in the contest?

  • I love turmeric! Personally I have never found the fresh stuff but I use the dried kind to make turmeric milk tea, spicy potato wedges, I add it to any curry or masala recipe, and even been known to whip up a face mask with turmeric, a little bentonite clay, and some distilled water. Adding a smidgen of pure aloe vera gel is a great idea, too. In fact, now that I think of it, a bit of pure aloe vera gel and some ground turmeric can make a great little acne spot treatment and keeps well in the fridge. I learned these and several other recipes from the lovely Ela Gale here on Youtube.

  • It has done nothing for me!! I take it twice a day nothing. I have been taking it for the last six months. All this stuff people come up with is mostly bull!!!

  • Brothers and Sisters, if you’re having a black mold issue, curcuma long root will heal you at the inner physical level. Praise the Lord.

  • Amazing benifit……today i used it just in order to try how it makes me feel….turst me i was really relaxed after having it in a form of shot it was just one sip and u r done…….

  • Use it in my coffee with ground cinnamon, ground ginger, honey & coconut oil,. Sometimes I add organic vanilla with it as well. I use this instead of the super sugary French vanilla creamer.

  • I could really use this!! I have a neurological struggles, fibromyalgia, migraines, struggles with depression and anxiety (PTSD) and so many things going on with my body. Also a fungus that is taking for ever to go away. I have been using essential oils for it but it has only gone away on my toe nails so far. I have no idea how in the world this happened. My mama also has multiple health problems including chronic pain, depression/anxiety, possible neurological struggles and so many other health issues I believe can be naturally helped or even healed. We both are on disability because we are unable to work and don’t make much of an income. This causes it to be difficult to purchase all we need to help us do the things we need to do in order to benefit the most from the foods that were created to bring healing to our bodies. I believe we are doing the right things. We could just really use support in being able to continue doing it and growing in the process.

  • I think your tumeric presentation was great. Am having a lot of joint pains so i enjoyed listening to you. Beryl M Rolle. Nassau. N. P. Bahamas

  • I’ve been taking tumeric for a year and I look like a highlighter pen, during the day I stop the traffic and during the night I illuminate like a moon.
