  • YESSSSSS do something on legumes I lOVE any of them!:D. Whenever I feel like something warming but don’t feel like making an effort, I just throw some red lentils in a stock with some other stuffs I have in the house and make a real quick and easy lentil soup, they have such amazing flavour on their own already that you could really get away with just throwing them in salt water! Just love legumes, don’t even get me started on chickpeas (crispy spiced from the oven OMG!).

  • Very first step needs to be spread dry beans on a platter and pick out any little pebbles, etc that you may find. Happens often. You don’t want to bite down on one.

  • I love black beans! I knew they were nutritious, but didn’t realize just how good they are for you. I can’t find them in tins here, so I cook a big pot of them, portion them and freeze them. Makes it less of a hassle to soak and cook them fresh each time.

  • That salad looks yummy, what’s in it and how did you(they)make it? I see a few type of tomatoes, lettuce, black beans offcourse, red pepper? and what’s that yello stuff, zucchini or something?

  • good method….i don’t think the 24hr soaking is necessary…..should be able to have your peas ready to eat within 4hrs…..i use to think the soaking was necessary but it really isn’t……the key is to have good peas….if your peas are too old they’ll never cook…. i remember cooking peas for three days….i soaked them did everything i could and they remained hard….then someone on a youtube channel mentioned that your peas are too old they won’t cook…..so try to find a store that sells good peas….some stores sell peas but noone buys them so they sit on the shelf forever……if you get stuck buying that pack you’ll be cooking and soaking for days until you realize that your peas are too old……

  • Really black beans are an extremely healthy delight and an integral part of many culinary cultures around the world especially in Brazil, however, here in Brazil we make use of various bean qualities, some unknown in Europe other well-known, I myself have developed some matching recipes some of them, a great suggestion is to combine them in salads with other grains, seeds and nuts, some vegetables and leaves. Excelent tips, excellent explanation of the bean nutrients! Thank you Jamie and Gennaro to share these experiences with us!

  • I usually just use the crock pot. Clean them off and put them in there on high over night. But I think soaking it helps with taking out bad compounds in the beans.

will make the beans and brown rice and salsa for mexican inspired dinner:)

  • guys I bought dried black beans and want to know if I need to soak them in water over night and then fry them in a pan or if I put them directly in the pan to reach the blisting effext that jamie is talking about?
    Thanks:)

  • What might be more nutritious, black beans from a can, or dried beans soaked overnight? I’ve read that canned beans don’t pack the nutritional value, due to the canning process.

  • Good day Ms. Ria, great to see you again. Yes I wash my tin stuff such as chick peas, peas or anything except corn beef etc. Beautifully done, I love beans. Keep safe Ms. Ria and thank you ♥️

  • Here’s a better and faster way: wash as she said. Put them in microwave container or bowl and cover w water, set to about 8 minutes, they should look a little wrinkly, put them in a pressure cooker, cook for 30-35 minutes..done. don’t forget to season, I like a lot of seasoning and she didn’t put nearly enough lol

  • Well it’s a win win situation. Not only are they super good for you but they’re probably the most delicious beans around (in my opinion anyway). What an explosion of earthy flavour they have.

  • It’s the third time I’m cooking with your video and it always tastes delicious! Thank you so much for teaching me how to make beans in an easy and simple way ❤️

  • I knew I recognised that rainforest and the bush tucker, My tribe is just down the hill, We used to prepare black bean this way but a little diffrent. We would ground it into flour and make damper…

  • Love it! I love beans and will definitely try frying them up thanks. How about dried beans are they the same nutritionally as tinned?

  • love all you yummy looking recipies and also the info to go with it really helps me to recover from my illness and enjoy healthy foods:)

  • How do you make those crispy black beans? Do you soak/cook them first then pop them in a pan or do you fry them first, then soak/boil?

  • Black beans are great,… what I do is strain the juice out of the tin. Cook with garlic, cumin fresh hot peppers(red) and chicken broth. Then serve with cilantro yum

  • Hi Jamie, Love your cooking style in years and happy to see more healthy meals. I just survived from cancer, changed all my cooking life, gluten free, diary free etc. Can you show a few ideas for a very healthy lunches or dinners, please. Many thanks.

  • 1 cup of black beans, 1/2 cup of white rice, 3 cups of chopped onion, garlic, carrots, peppers, cilantro, avacado, tomato, olive oil, sardines, 1/2 cup of nuts, and a large fajeta is typically my daily meal.

  • It’s odd how some beans don’t cause gas and others do.  I make a lot of soy milk, and soybeans just don’t create much if any gas.  I leave the container open in the frig for about 12 hours for the gas to escape, and that improves the taste and removes much of the beany taste too.   Great northerns and Lima beans do create quite a bit of gas.  Soaking for 12 hours does reduce the gas, but not completely.

  • She’s the chef, but overnight is usually the norm. Say 8 hrs of sleep plus the preceding 2 hours of binging. 10 hours? Or just listen to the expert.

  • If I may inquire, how long do the beans have to remain in a boiling state; before reducing the heat to the lowest possible setting?

  • I love the convenience of canned beans, but cook mine from dried…I can control the amount of salt and play around with flavors as they cook, after the overnight soak……

    Funny wedding story….Thumbs Up!

  • The reason you need to soak the beans is to reduce the amount of toxic lectins in them. So don’t under-do the soaking part, beans are actually poisonous.

  • Jamie, how amazing u re! Just ate mu black bean salad yesterday and wondered whether its good for me or just another kind of carb in my diet:)) Googled for the answers but its all clear now. Eat my beans!!!

  • It’s the third time I’m cooking with your video and it always tastes delicious! Thank you so much for teaching me how to make beans in an easy and simple way ❤️

  • I cant finish the noodles and a drink.. i cant believe she is eating all of that… that would be 2 days of my meals.. i am impressed..

  • Excellent video. I feel like Neo in the Matrix “I know black beans!” Thank you so much for a super helpful video, you made my day!

  • great recipe, why do you have to use cling foil to cover which you will anyway throw away the next day, please use a plate to cover, reduce plastic.

  • I knew I recognised that rainforest and the bush tucker, My tribe is just down the hill, We used to prepare black bean this way but a little diffrent. We would ground it into flour and make damper…

  • That story about the bean throwing at a wedding really cracked me up shame about the bridesmaids though! I love beans a bean burger with Mexican spices with peppers, mayo and lettuce in a wrap is my go to lunch plan. Loving Daily Jamie so far, please keep them coming!:)

  • I usually just use the crock pot. Clean them off and put them in there on high over night. But I think soaking it helps with taking out bad compounds in the beans.

  • wait a minute so you heat the beans in a hot pan instead of soaking them? and then proceed to cook them in a sauce or just hot pan ready to eat and in the case do you soak them first and how long you cook them in the pan. thank you

  • I found 5 lbs. of black beans, didn’t know what to with them, suprisingly I followed your recipe before I watched this video… Guess I knew how to cook these things. verification… your recipe is good! thanks-

  • Here’s a better and faster way: wash as she said. • These videos are great but I’m nowhere near a rain first area, I live in a temperate deciduous forest, so all the plants and food sources mean nothing to me

  • Very first step needs to be spread dry beans on a platter and pick out any little pebbles, etc that you may find. Happens often. You don’t want to bite down on one.

  • If I may inquire, how long do the beans have to remain in a boiling state; before reducing the heat to the lowest possible setting?

  • My aunts makes the most delicious bean salad, but no one apart from me really likes it.
However, I have been wanting to try a new dish out this week, so a bean based meal it is!!

  • I love black beans! I knew they were nutritious, but didn’t realize just how good they are for you. I can’t find them in tins here, so I cook a big pot of them, portion them and freeze them. Makes it less of a hassle to soak and cook them fresh each time.

  • Will have to say these are lot different than survival video made in other parts of the words. The small thing gets me the most living as hundreds or thousands of years ago. Not one video

If its the soul job of the CAMERA crew to

    Great job guys

  • Really black beans are an extremely healthy delight and an integral part of many culinary cultures around the world especially in Brazil, however, here in Brazil we make use of various bean qualities, some unknown in Europe other well-known, I myself have developed some matching recipes some of them, a great suggestion is to combine them in salads with other grains, seeds and nuts, some vegetables and leaves. Excelent tips, excellent explanation of the bean nutrients! Thank you Jamie and Gennaro to share these experiences with us!

  • Excellent video. I feel like Neo in the Matrix “I know black beans!” Thank you so much for a super helpful video, you made my day!

  • this makes me so happy!! because i went out and got some poppadoms and cottage cheese after seeing your previous snack idea (amazing!!) and due to my current living situation i cant do much cooking so i topped them with black beans and they were amazing!! and here you are telling me that they are perfect for my vegetarian diet hurray!

also i have a question: how long is it safe to leave an opened can of beans in the fridge sitting in a covered bowl??

and a massive thank you jamie these everyday superfood videos are just so so good they make me so happy to see your positive and accepting attitude towards healthy eating!! xxxx

  • How often do you get your meal cooked by others? What’s the purpose of that, do you check the meals for future books or something like that? It really looks delicious.:-)

  • How do you make those crispy black beans? Do you soak/cook them first then pop them in a pan or do you fry them first, then soak/boil?

  • “Embrace your beans”… I’m going to the kitchen right now and give my beans a lovely hug. Thanks, Jamie and Gennaro, for an excellent bean refresher!

  • Hi Ria it’s nice seeing you again I’ll always soak my beans overnight but if I have to use can beans l wash it thoroughly before cooking enjoy your weekend and stay safe bye.

  • Jamie, surprised you didn’t mention your wonderful Brazilian Feijoada recipe, you did do an episode about this if memory serves me right……I’ve put your veggie link on here, below, hope you don’t mind……sure the ‘peeps’ will love it…..for those of you reading this, Jamie has a great recipe for authentic Brazilian Black Bean stew, it’s brilliant…I’ve cooked it many times, in Brazil and here in the UK, with meat and without for the Vegie folk…….go do it, you will not be sorry……promise…..enjoy….try this out…. http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetables-recipes/smoky-veggie-feijoada/#QFwqGwKY73YDoHa3.97

  • nice:) please wash the beans couple of times and soak with filtered water so you can use the same water to cook beans..it is filled with nutrients…if you must throw the water, please use that to water the plants, not dump down the drain…also, when water level goes down and you want to add extra water, add hot water so it will not slow down the cooking process in the beans coz of cool water will bring temperature down…
will make the beans and brown rice and salsa for mexican inspired dinner:)
