Almost every item you pick up at the grocery store these days has “0 grams trans fat” slapped on the label—but according to a new study from the. While you might assume the amounts of trans fat are still negligible, they can add up if you’re unaware of how many products you’re eating that contain partially hydrogenated oil. On top of that, the Institute of Medicine has said no amount of this artificial fat is safe and the FDA is weighing whether or not to revoke trans fat’s “generally recognized as safe” distinction. You may not even know you are eating them, but trans fats will soon be mostly gone from your food.

The Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday it will require food companies to phase them out over the next three years because the agency says they are a threat to public health. There’s a particular kind of fat, however, that has no health benefits whatsoever and can only be bad for you: Trans fats. Why You Should Avoid Foods High in Trans Fat Trans fats are a type of fat, mostly present in fast food and processed foods of. While you may have heard that saturated fats are also bad for your heart, they’re not as dangerous as trans fats for the average person. However, foods high in.

You may have heard a lot about trans fats. These fats are notoriously unhealthy, but you may not know why. Although intake has declined in recent years as. Although you probably won’t be able to completely eliminate the fat from your diet unless you prepare all your foods at home, you should pay attention to how much you eat. So, if you eat a 2,000-calorie diet, you should consume less than 2 grams of trans fat.

In fact, the 25 unhealthiest restaurant salads have thousands of calories, unhealthy trans fats, and more sodium than you should eat in a whole day, all served over a bed of lettuce. Even if 2 percent of your diet is made up from trans fat, your risk for heart disease can jump 23 percent, according to Harvard Health Publishing. The Takeaway It is without question that eating a healthier diet and including more fruits and vegetables can benefit your heart. Eat a variety of foods (some meats, balanced out with lots of fish and non-animal sources of protein like legumes), and plenty of vegetables.

If you’re eating enough fat, you’ll be naturally satiated.

Epidemiological studies have linked trans fat consumption to increased cardiovascular disease risk, but to date there are no intervention studies that specifically address the extent to which trans fat intake may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

  • 16:50 One wonders why the L.A. veterans in the control group of the study suddenly started dying of CA 1 year after the experiment ended?? Was it something they were given to eat or drink? Very strange. I don’t trust these devils.

  • Considering the downfall of WHO nowadays I’d say recommendations from the rest of those big medical organizations should be taken with a grain of salt

  • I cook with lard and tallow, and my kid used olive oil until I told him to stop… what a sticky mess, which is why I told him to stop using it!

  • Scary stuff how capitalism forces consumption of crap, rather than the end user dictating the quality of what we put into our bodies.

  • Very good talk, it makes sense, not that cholesterol really ever does, it seems. Professor Sikaris in his talk a couple of years ago was saying that the small dense LDL particles are they dangerous ones, he did mention about the modified LDL as being bad also, stating he didn’t know why they changed (oxidised).
I am a type 1 diabetic that has recently begun LCHF diet, it seems to be working out much better than the typical HCLF diet I was on previously. So do we still eat cooked meat, which will contain those PUFA and it would be good to know how much meat that has been cooked actually has.

  • Here in sweden we use vegetable oils to run our public buses with…and even then it corrodes fuel lines, destroys fuel filters…very corrosive stuff (rape methyl ether, basically a processed vegetable oil)…and we eat this? Says for itself its NOT something you put inside your mouth or a car tank for that matter…..

  • Historically: Napoleon got fed up with rancid butter and had his chemist make a fat that would not go rancid. The chemist finally found a way by somehow infusing etc Hydrogen into fats or oils.

  • These manufacturers continue to sell lies to the masses when it comes to fats. Many countries in the world have used nuts oils without harmful effects. Eg. Caribbean coconuts were sprayed and killed to promote soya oil. People need to educate themselves. Our old people lived on coconut oils and used it for myriads of things including skin care. This only serves to enforce the fact that most government/large companies cannot be trusted. Their interest is all for the profits.

  • I’m not sure about this woman, there is something off about her manner; I get the feeling she’s there to address an audience without taking any questions.

  • I agree with all of this but there is one thing I dont understand, why none of this anti-seed-oil proponents mention olive oil when they talk about what fats where used historically?
Olive oil was used since ancient Mesopotamia? and was part of Mediterranean diet thru ages?

  • The original food pyramid is based upon the diet in Italy (specifically Sardinia where by the way they DO eat monosaturated oils) but also incorporates some lesser health foods like sweets, fats, dairy products and oils (American foods higher in fat salt and sugar). If people actually followed it lifespan would be 85-90 years instead of 78. In fact lifespan in the USA is now dropping. Ancel Keys based the pyramid on the Sardinian and Okinawin diets, unfortunately American grocery stores sell so much addictive processed crap people can’t escape. USA is a marketing success but a health failure.

  • The reason a restaurant is required to have a grease trap is because it clogs the large municipal sewer pipes! You need to scrape it.

  • I remember years ago when the Center for Science in the Public Interest (even their name is a propaganda) handed out a “news” release or press release telling the rest of us that Mexican food is high in fat. Well, duh! Isn’t that why we like it so much? Did they think we didn’t know it already? Lefties have no common sense and no sense of humor, either.

  • Chemists class some oils as “drying oils” by which they mean they polymerize. Flax oil aka linseed oil is bad for this, which is why it is used for paint, and causes the fires caused by “oily rags.” Soybean oil polymerizes to a lesser extent.

  • If your ancestors weren’t eating it 20,000 years ago, don’t eat it. Bread, refined grains, veg oils. Eat only foods your body is evolved to process. Anything else will have unintended consequences.

  • Wow, Nina…You are so classy and one mesmerizingly beautiful woman!! You look like you should have been a movie star. Great presentation by the way. Thanks for the heads up. Nothing but lard for me from now on! just bought your book.

  • I agree with all of this but there is one thing I dont understand, why none of this anti-seed-oil proponents mention olive oil when they talk about what fats where used historically?

  • Palm oil is still beeing shunned upon today…but this time its because of the rain forests dying bullshit…see its still going on…

  • What can one expect from W.H.O. Doctors, M.Ps, Bankers etc etc. Lies lies and more lies. These studies are all manipulated to fall in line with what is called the slow kill linked to agenda 21/30. The people we pay our taxes to don’t have our best interests at heart, they need arrested and charged with treason against the people and hung by the neck until death.

  • Anyone I have told about these facts finds a way to make those facts, fiction. People are creatures of habit and “Doctor’s Orders” carries more weight than any facts that a person can verify. They will die and do die before they will listen!

  • @ 3:50. Nina says “Here are some of the problems with oils. They are not stable. They are greasy and oily..” as a journalist that understands the science, it is beneath you to use unscientific or emotionally charged language like this Nina. The same applies to the earlier picture of industrial machinery as an appeal to us to condemn oils as being inappropriate for humans if they can be used for lubricating machines. In the same way that we should reject an argument for something being natural as therefore good, you should be careful not to use false appeals to people’s emotions to further your cause however worthy that is. Let’s just stick to the science can we? I am an admirer of your work Nina and have Fat Surprise as kindle and Audible, so I hope you will take this as a positive criticism.

  • Wait, I might have used the cleaner she’s talking about around 31:00. That stuff eats your skin! Literally, I had little (burning like all hell) divots or holes in my skin from just tiny drops of that cleaner (it felt like something out of a video game or tv show!). The person teaching me how to use the cleaner said yeah it does that because our skin has oil in it, and I better wash it off before it got deeper then they gave me aloe because they said it was the only thing that would stop the pain. If that’s the same stuff, then that stuff is seriously dangerous.

  • All I can say is the pharmaceutical doesn’t make billions if we are healthy!!!! They have brainwash most doctors today, so our health is up to us to take hold of health!!! Glad to see some doctors actually care about truth.

  • I’ve wondered for years why McDonald’s fries or for that matter restaurant fries in general don’t taste like they did when I was a kid when I loved ’em. These days they seem OK if you eat them just after they are cool enough not to burn, but in five minutes as the cool further, they’re dreadful. Now I know. Go back to tallow!

  • The nicest person you could meet, to tell us in the nicest way, that “the button has been pushed” and self-destruction is inevitable.., because we refuse to think about what is under our noses, generally.

  • She is using as much as the persons she accuses the same tricks in discours to make her point. I won’t say I disagree with the point of saturated fats being not as bad as presented before by companies/company sponsored scientists or even healthier perhaps tha (poly)unsaturated, but where she is using these same tricks, I wonder why, what is your story? Just fond of media attention, having a different story to tell? Sponsoring as well?

  • 10 years ago id call her a crazy dumb liar as i believed canola oil and iodized table salt are healthy. We frequently eat out and love deep fried foods. Until my wife and i had health issues and were put on statins and blood thinners, with blood tests an doctors vist every 3-6 months and our quality of life was horrible. Then i made research. We switched to virgin coconut oil, pure sea salt, supplemented with vit. C, magnesium and turmeric capsule, drastically reduced our sugar, bread and restaurant food and we got our life back. We’re no longer on blood thinners and statins with better quality of life for over 2 years. Our doctor was surprised of the result of the blood test.
Yes coconut oil and sea salt or himalayan is more expensivd than canola oil and table salt. But the doctors visit and blood test every 3 months and the prescriptuon meds are much more expensive.

  • Butter has 50 g saturated fat while coconut oil has 87 g. Why does coconut oil have a lower melting point than butter when it has way more of the stabil “stackable” fatty acids?

  • Good information. Yes, it should be clear that we should preferably only eat unprocessed foods! Believe it or not mankind (kind?) does not know everything about things and all too often wealth is put before health! I will boldly say that there would be no COVID-19 pandemic for two reasons if people would be honest and not put wealth before health: 1. Not engineer the virus. 2. Encourage people to eat healthy so, guess what-their immune systems function properly.

I am shocked and dismayed that government agencies and mainstream news ignore nutrition and do not recognize our built-in system to protect us from viruses and many other things-our immune system. It is not mentioned, as if it plays no role in protecting us from pathogens.
Another thing that government agencies and mainstream news media fail to mention is that nutrition is related to immune function. How can you separate nutrition from health? A proper functioning immune system and poor nutrition is mutually exclusive. If they really want to do something to help the people’s health which will also help the health of the economy, they need to stop suppressing the facts that nutrition affects our immune system.

I can only conclude that our government agencies and mainstream news media want us to be unhealthy! Perhaps to have more need for prescription drugs and vaccines.

  • I cook with lard and tallow, and my kid used olive oil until I told him to stop… what a sticky mess, which is why I told him to stop using it!

  • Why exactly are trans fats bad and saturated fats neutral if they both have the same makeup? I don’t see why it would be unhealthy just because it was modified

  • Its easy to avoid vegetable oils by not cooking with these…BUT how can you avoid all foods that contain it…its impossible in our modern society…i dont have time to cook my own food in 6 cases out of 10….

  • Harvard…. a university highly over represented by tribe members… recommending foodstuffs that kill humans. Sounds like satanism hard at work there.

  • You ever notice that the opposing arguments don’t use science like this to prove their point? They only seem to use epidemiological studies which are usually very non scientific.

  • To show you what vegetable oils do cure a carbon steel work. You rub a small amount of oil on your wok and heat it and it basically burns onto the surface and becomes a layer of built up non stick chemical. The more you do this, the thicker it gets. It is a polymer.

  • This is jut a lie there lids of evidence of suturated fat leading to cardiovascular disease just one example there are 1000s more https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5492032/

  • We all want to hear good news about our bad habits. So I guess Okinawans have a higher level of strokes compared to us in the west.

  • I was also pro-keto/low carb but it was because it was the only way besides starving that I could lose weight so I yo-yo’d it. I wish somewhere along the line someone had explained the health benefits of the a very low carb diet and how eating the normal ways can destroy your internal organs. No one until now ever spoke about that.

  • A big issue with animal fat is….how sick was the animal when it was slaughtered? If you can’t get free-range, grass-fed fats then they ate GMO soy and corn, and who knows What pesticides and fungicides and other toxins became STORED IN THAT FAT. No thanks.

  • I really like your rational approach. From experience and years of studying this subject, the best I can ascertain is that different people have different insulin sensitivity. And as a general rulethe fat you eat is the fat you wear.

  • Oh dear.  There are some problems here.  First off, trans fats are not inherently artificial.  There are naturally occurring trans fats in, for instance, any meat you consume.  As such, the FDA hasn’t required that anybody remove them from anything, because…well, you can’t remove them from some entirely natural foods.  What the FDA can do is suggest that food producers avoid adding additional extraneous trans fats to foodstuffs.

I suspect the problem is that you’re trying to do too much with one video.  If you had confined yourselves only to only answering the question you actually posed at the outset (What Are Trans Fats?) instead of also trying to cover the FDA statement.  Of course, you’ve also gone and forgotten to cover, you know, the other question you pose in the title (you explain how consumption of trans fats correlates with some unhealthy effects, but not why those effects occur), so that might be another thing to consider.  Really, it seems like there are two potential science stories here (What Are They and Why Are They Bad) that you’ve crammed together into one with the additional dressing of a related FDA announcement and you’re just not able to give all of the parts the time required to deliver full useful information.

  • I say bring all the fruit and vegetables down to like dollar hamburgers. Fruit and vegetables should be like Pennies on the dollar prices. There you go. We can all be healthy.

  • Harvard…. a university highly over represented by tribe members… recommending foodstuffs that kill humans. Sounds like satanism hard at work there.

  • short sighted comment i’m sure… if 16:47 is true and our brains and CNS’s are so populated with poly unsaturated fatty acids…why are we limiting them? only because of their potential for oxidative stress? seems like if they as bad as we know they are…our brains and CNS’s wouldn’t be chock full these bad, fatty acids. no? *edit conversely, would non oxidized (stable?) poly unsaturates be necessarily good for us?

  • Can we exercise immediately to maintain our calories diet if we eat more junk food than we should??? Does it make effect in maintaining calorie

  • Thank you for telling the truth on calorie counting! Everyone seems to think it’s an exact science It definitely is not! You can follow a calorie counting program, and be starving yourself or overeating.

  • Question: How fast can you REALLY “burn off” or reduce body fat?…and how do you reduce body fat at a fast pce without losing a lot of muscle?

  • I have been doing calisthenics for six months now and just recently I started feeling pain in the back of my forearm when doing push exercises (Push ups, dips and tricep extensions) I don’t feel any pain for most of the movement only when I’m about halfway through the pushing part

  • We all want to hear good news about our bad habits. So I guess Okinawans have a higher level of strokes compared to us in the west.

  • So Matt you quit junk food and lost that thick head of hair? Is there a connection here? BTW I liked your book and love this channel.

  • Hey matt loved this particular video, btw can u make a video about urself. Like how tall are u, how much do u weigh, how’d u get into calisthenics and why, what motivated u, etc…

  • How long it will take to finish your new book?..I really liked fitness independence: first principles book for fitness. Keep up the good work….

  • I think there is another point of view based on hormones that can help answer this question.

We know that insulin is the “storage” hormone, and its presence prevents fat burning. Then, if we take a junk food diet with mostly high fat and protein, the insulin spikes will be much less pronounced, and our source fuel will be basically the fat reserves. With that, the “calories in vs calories out” is straightforward to dictate if you lose or gain weight. (Of course, there is the issue with high bad cholesterol and stuff, but that is not the main concern here!).

In contrast, with high carb junk food diet the insulin spikes will be way bigger, thus it will be harder for the body to touch the fat reserves. In fact, even in a caloric deficit, if the insulin levels are high, the body will first use the sugar stored in the muscles, so we may “look leaner”, but then again it may reduce the metabolism, body temperature, our disposition, and heck, it may even burn muscle to lower the energy expenditure simply because it cannot use our stored fat! In the end, we still lose weight, but probably not from where we wanted…

This is mostly conjecture, I never tried such controlled methods. What do you guys think?

  • People need to stop looking for excuses to eat junk food. Thats why such videos are still being made. People are too weak to lead a healthy diet and want to hear that “yes” to eat what they want. For eg., Hannibal for King, he eats what he wants and look a him. Hes almost 40, looks incredible. And people think they can do the same. No.

  • A big issue with animal fat is….how sick was the animal when it was slaughtered? If you can’t get free-range, grass-fed fats then they ate GMO soy and corn, and who knows What pesticides and fungicides and other toxins became STORED IN THAT FAT. No thanks.

  • I love +DNews but this video is partially wrong. It’s true that hydrogenated fats (read margarine) are the devil because they contain Trans fats. The problem is, cow’s milk and meat contain about 5% Trans fats too. But the meat industry is bypassing the FDA due to the fact that this ones are “naturally occurring” Trans fats, while the ones in margarine are industrially produced. It’s quite the same case with nitrosamides (forbidden toxin) naturally found in cigarettes and hotdogs […]

  • I am glad you exist! Sadly 99.99% of the people I come in contact are too lazy and say that their doctors will take care of them and so continue with their faux beliefs! Thank you from my heart to yours Michael ❤️

  • Loved this presentation.. the last part however where she says “eat more vegetables” left me wanting to hear an explanation.. I’ve yet to see a good presentation or article on the science behind vegetables being the super healthy items they’ve been cracked up to be in recent times… if anyone could recommend something to check out in regards to that it’d be tremendously appreciated. Doesn’t the body produce it’s own very powerful antioxidants like glutathione? Does it really need vegetable specific antioxidants? I dont picture ancient man and his ancestors eating tons of raw vegetables before fire was invented.. And how do we know which antioxidants are the ones that help us?

  • In book the FDA most dangerous terrorist the history of our country and the insurance company and and the medicine manufacturers are serial killers all they care about id killing us and making money when they are doing it that is the truth if you trust them or you defend them as you inviting the man who promised to kill you to stay over your house overnight peace

  • Thank goodness for people like this woman and all the others who are prepared to go out on a limb and tell us the truth, not what someone has paid or bullied them to say. Bravo.

  • Excellent and extremely informative lecture…I have just read your updated Deep Nutrition…it was a very informative read thank you for taking your knowledge out the public whom clearly need to take their health responsibilities into their own hands…

  • My total C is only 150…70 LDL and 80 HDL. But I inherited LP(a) which was 204 nmol in January and now it’s 102 taking niacin. Any other advice for lowering this?

  • 5:02 “… so now we know that all LDL is bad. LDL is something we shouldn’t have in our body, but we do… and actually all animals do… and that means that really all of nature is wrong”…

  • There is a high monounsaturated type of safflower oil and there is a high polyunsaturated type of safflower oil. We have been using the high monounsaturated type. Isn’t this one okay?

  • Actually I sat through this entire video to find out there is NO LIPID MANAGEMENT even discussed. “Eat more vegetables”?? SERIOUSLY? All you talked about was how the BODY manages it’s lipids NOT THE PATIENTS.

  • Wonderful video! Easy to understand. Question: Is eating bad PUFAs the only way to get oxidized LDL? What if a person is not eating the wrong way and still gets plaque? What other things can cause it? Thanks!

  • Just listened to Dr. Robert Krauss a high-level scientist who in interview on this subject presented a nuanced thorough discussion. You on the other hand bounce around with a lot of mixed opinions as to what the hard road of science research entails. Overall agree with what you are mishmashing around and trying to get to. But recommend you organize your material better to make your points and get to the end. You obviously have not done any research yourself so do not get the the subtleties but end with the abstract. You are way too black-and-white about cause and effect of very complex systems. And (no offense) loos the high energy enthusiasm and bake in deeper modeling.

  • 5:04 “LDL is bad and we shouldn’t have it in our bodies and all of nature is wrong.”
The speaker is using moralizing terminology and sarcasm with an irrelevant and unrelated comparison between the normal synthesizing of endogenous cholesterol as opposed to consuming the unnecessary exogenous cholesterol through a version of the moral equivalence logical fallacy and you can hear the entertained audience members laughing as she tells them what they want to hear.

  • All I can say is the pharmaceutical doesn’t make billions if we are healthy!!!! They have brainwash most doctors today, so our health is up to us to take hold of health!!! Glad to see some doctors actually care about truth.

  • I’m gonna try this because I want to lose 20 pounds i’ve lost 5 but I really miss junk food. So i’m gonna start counting my calories

  • To show you what vegetable oils do cure a carbon steel work. You rub a small amount of oil on your wok and heat it and it basically burns onto the surface and becomes a layer of built up non stick chemical. The more you do this, the thicker it gets. It is a polymer.

  • Correct… Doctors of Medicine just regurgitate the science of Doctors of Science… very few have advanced degrees in the sciences. Essentially they have little to offer…

Simple… The AMA (the most powerful lobby in Washington) and NIH have failed the patient… Physicians have abandoned the nutritional approach to patient diagnostics and medicine, simply because they are not trained in nutrition. A key part of the Hippocratic Oath… “I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure… “, has been forgotten …

70 Going On 100… the Centenarian Diet

  • Dr. Shanahan: Thank you for this informative lecture. It goes against everything I have been doing for 35-40 years!! 1 question: is it true that if there is plaques CRP numbers will always be elevated?

  • First I agree with Kate about oils…Back in the day I washed my clothes (skins) with a rock. Teased the bear living in our cave. Chased big cats off their prey to get meat. Died at 24. But wow was I healthy eating natural fibers and meats.

  • 10 years ago id call her a crazy dumb liar as i believed canola oil and iodized table salt are healthy. We frequently eat out and love deep fried foods. • Wonderful video! Easy to understand. Question: Is eating bad PUFAs the only way to get oxidized LDL? What if a person is not eating the wrong way and still gets plaque? What other things can cause it? Thanks!

  • Actually the only bad red meat (especially in america) is the highly processed and flavour enhanced meats like bacon, sausages and mincemeat (such as in hamburgers). These are the meats that are really “bad” for you in terms of cardiovascular problems. But they’re right, when you can get turkey or chicken and just switch it up.

  • Hemp protein = likely one of the healthiest protein sources available. Casein (ie Milk, yogurt) = likely one of the unhealthiest most destructive protein sources available

  • Apparently there is a lot of criticism on soy based protein because it has a chemical compound that mimics that of estrogen, so in males it will cause a hormone imbalance. Please correct me if I am wrong, and show me your evidence.

  • actually peanut butter & peanuts are not good… can’t remember why exactly, i’ve been meaning to look into it more, but my naturopath recommended we stop eating it & switch to almond butter as an alternative… i’ve also heard from others that peanuts are highly poisoned with pesticides… & i believe most typical peanut butters contain high amounts of sugar… not sure if those are the only reasons not to eat it

  • Apparently there is a lot of criticism on soy based protein because it has a chemical compound that mimics that of estrogen, so in males it will cause a hormone imbalance. Please correct me if I am wrong, and show me your evidence.

  • “Vegetable oil is not made from vegetables” i’ve heard that so many times now. In sweden we say vegetabilic oil or animalic oil (if those are real words in english). Vegetabilic meaning plant based, and animalic meaning animal based.
vegetables in swedish = grönsaker (green stuff)
so here it makes sense even though its not from vegetables.

  • Scary stuff how capitalism forces consumption of crap, rather than the end user dictating the quality of what we put into our bodies.

  • I ate some mayo made with soybean oil for 1 day. Next day i had a boil on my left leg. Your body does NOT want this stuff in your body.

  • Yes you can.Speaking from experience and examples elsewhere.
I lost 10 pounds in two months once, unintentionally during a stressful period in my life. The stress caused me to lose my appetite but what I did eat was junk food
Someone was in the news several years ago for losing weight on the McDonalds diet.
The trick is not to over eat.Keep the caloric intake each day to 1500 or less

  • Margarine tastes like hell because it is a completely abnormal “food” originally created by the French to replace animal fats for their military and low class citizens. Thank you France.:-(

  • What about peanut oil? In London, I had delicious fish and chips fried in peanut oil. Yum! But at home I use coconut oil or butter, as well as bacon grease I save from pasture-raised pork. Also yummy! I guess that’s essentially lard.

  • Mono-unsaturated fats are good but they are not perfect. Any fat with the unsaturated designation had at least one double bonded carbon. In a MONO-unsaturated fat it had one double bond. These bonds are weak and prone to oxygen attaching to them (especially if you cook with them). And oxygen in a fat is bad. This is oxidation, otherwise known as rancidity. That is why even olive oil can go bad. Saturated fats like butter have no double bonds and will not get rancid. Which is why your grandparents did not put the butter in the fridge.

  • Went carnivore and bought mayo for tuna. Used it 2 days and pitched it. Soybean oil gave me severe heart burn. Gross. Havent used any liquid oils in years. Give me Kerry gold all the way. Vegetable oils seed oils are the devil

  • What about peanut oil? In London, I had delicious fish and chips fried in peanut oil. Yum! But at home I use coconut oil or butter, as well as bacon grease I save from pasture-raised pork. Also yummy! I guess that’s essentially lard.

  • Vegetable oils are made of inherently toxic weeds, not vegetables. As for the so-called “ban” on hydrogenated oil, there are enough loopholes in the ban that I still see it on ingredient lists all over the place. It’s legal if you keep the amounts low. But that doesn’t help because it only takes two grams of vegetable oil to give a person two weeks of inflammation, Artery inflammation, nerve inflammation, brain inflammation, joint inflammation. The newest wild card in processed food is the new law that says you don’t need to mention anything weighing under 2% of the product on the ingredient list. One ingredients supplier ran an ad is a trade journal that read, “Let us help you clean up your list.” Translation: Continue making your product as deadly as ever and we’ll help you hide it. The only answer is zero tolerance for processed “food” and restaurant “food.”

  • Coconut oil. I use it for everything from cooking to make up remover, to skin and hair moisturizer, to scar fader. I think I would die without it!

  • The nicest person you could meet, to tell us in the nicest way, that “the button has been pushed” and self-destruction is inevitable.., because we refuse to think about what is under our noses, generally.

  • So what’s the healthiest cooking oil for frying for the least oxidants? Coconut oil? I’ve been using refined olive oil.. don’t know how many trans fats are in it because I live in the USA. Don’t know how badly the light olive oil oxidizes during the refining process.

  • Butter has 50 g saturated fat while coconut oil has 87 g. Why does coconut oil have a lower melting point than butter when it has way more of the stabil “stackable” fatty acids?

  • I know you can for sure gain weight when eating junk food

    I have experimented with this

    keeping my workout the same

and my eating my healthy diet

but added in 1 toasted bagel and cream cheese per day
(1 week or 2 per day I cant remember now)

absolutely went up 2 belt loops

this was done about 20 + years ago

    about 5 years back

was just enjoying my newer “laidback” attitude

    same intense workout
but had spaghetti and a bottle wine
    once a week(end)

    AND DEVELOPED HEADACHE

    PLUS

    yup added weight

and when I am pushing myself a bit more cause I like the challenge

and I cut back on ANY weekend extras….

    more ripped

not sure how others might do

    but thats my story

and I am sticking to it

    another good video
    keep it going!!

  • Anyone I have told about these facts finds a way to make those facts, fiction. People are creatures of habit and “Doctor’s Orders” carries more weight than any facts that a person can verify. They will die and do die before they will listen!

  • I feel like Gregger said Omega 6 is discarded by the body if you have the proper amount of Omega 3 for the enzyme that makes the EFA.  Also, Omega 6 is destructive according to him and if you have a 4:1 ratio, the enzyme will get what it needs for a healthy body.  Who knows what is right?   I had an MNR test and I don’t remember it looking quite like that.  I had 1400 LDL particles and 1000 was normal.  Now, my small particles were in the good range.  I remember there was 6 categories that averaged out to reveal whether you were insulin resistant.  I was 60 out of 100, which was on the border of being that way.

  • You ever notice that the opposing arguments don’t use science like this to prove their point? They only seem to use epidemiological studies which are usually very non scientific.

  • Tx Dr. Shanahan, and yes Ancel Keys… used bogus science… and created the anti-saturated fat fiasco… the cholesterol theory is finally dead… and basic chemistry teaches about the double bond of oxygen… I might mention that Glucose 6-Carbon Benzene ring vs Fructose 5-Carbon Pentane ring… we know that the penta structure if far more aggressive… Benzene gasoline… Pentane Blow torch…

  • I’m not sure about this woman, there is something off about her manner; I get the feeling she’s there to address an audience without taking any questions.

  • Just as Citizens United in Politics, having health-related associations accepting money from big corporation has a corrupting effect. Preventing this corruption would go a long way to lower health care costs.

  • I am glad you exist! Sadly 99.99% of the people I come in contact are too lazy and say that their doctors will take care of them and so continue with their faux beliefs! Thank you from my heart to yours Michael ❤️

  • First I agree with Kate about oils…Back in the day I washed my clothes (skins) with a rock. Teased the bear living in our cave. Chased big cats off their prey to get meat. Died at 24. But wow was I healthy eating natural fibers and meats.

  • The criminals that call themselves “government” are traitors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO KILL US FOR PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My total C is only 150…70 LDL and 80 HDL. But I inherited LP(a) which was 204 nmol in January and now it’s 102 taking niacin. Any other advice for lowering this?

  • short sighted comment i’m sure… if 16:47 is true and our brains and CNS’s are so populated with poly unsaturated fatty acids…why are we limiting them? only because of their potential for oxidative stress? seems like if they as bad as we know they are…our brains and CNS’s wouldn’t be chock full these bad, fatty acids. no? *edit conversely, would non oxidized (stable?) poly unsaturates be necessarily good for us?

  • There is a high monounsaturated type of safflower oil and there is a high polyunsaturated type of safflower oil. We have been using the high monounsaturated type. Isn’t this one okay?

  • I say bring all the fruit and vegetables down to like dollar hamburgers. Fruit and vegetables should be like Pennies on the dollar prices. There you go. We can all be healthy.

  • Dr. Shanahan: Thank you for this informative lecture. It goes against everything I have been doing for 35-40 years!! 1 question: is it true that if there is plaques CRP numbers will always be elevated?

  • Historically: Napoleon got fed up with rancid butter and had his chemist make a fat that would not go rancid. The chemist finally found a way by somehow infusing etc Hydrogen into fats or oils.

  • Great info but leaving me kind of confused……. I’ve been told to eat more fat, no to low carbs and sugar and cholesterol will take care of itself… ughhhhh

  • At 25:00, interesting theory on why vegetable oil PUFA lowers LDL. Maybe the folks at Harvard School of Public Health should pay attention.

  • Its easy to avoid vegetable oils by not cooking with these…BUT how can you avoid all foods that contain it…its impossible in our modern society…i dont have time to cook my own food in 6 cases out of 10….

  • Hemp protein = likely one of the healthiest protein sources available. Casein (ie Milk, yogurt) = likely one of the unhealthiest most destructive protein sources available

  • Good sources of protein are eggs, peanut butter, peanuts, cheese and much more. If your trying to add on a little lean mass, you should try to get at least 1g of protein for body pound. (For example. If I weigh 155, I’ll get 155 g of protein a day.) might seem a lot but by eating whole foods and supplementing with protein shakes. Great video! Keep up the videos!……. • What a load of bollocks. Fuck PUFAs. If you think PUFAs are healthy, be my guest. Carry on eating them. And yes, I’m including omega 3 in that statement.

  • he has read an elementary book on nutrition, hasn’t fully understood it and then makes a video thinking he is an expert and he is no public speaker rubbish

  • This dude is an absolute buffoon. Raypeat.com systematically destroys this opinion of essentiality and health of the unsaturated fats. Learn something.

  • Actually I sat through this entire video to find out there is NO LIPID MANAGEMENT even discussed. “Eat more vegetables”?? SERIOUSLY? All you talked about was how the BODY manages it’s lipids NOT THE PATIENTS.

  • Blah blah blah, for fucking talk, do not twist thevertish twist turns it wants to tangle, in fact everything is simple your body will not be able to regenerate cells It’s Very Bad, old age is rank and diseases like cancer, etc..

  • How about if you don’t want to eat them then don’t eat them but why does the government have to ban them? That’s find the same people who want Jose to be legalized likes the government banning soda pop and cinnamon rolls

  • Eh what SUCKS in English speaking countries is that the word for lipids is also known as ‘fats’ and the verb to become overweight is also known as ‘fat’ so the link between the two was inevitably and not always correct. Some fats can be good for you, and eating fats doesn’t necessarily make you FAT. I bet in tonnes of other languages the word for fat and lipids are two very different things.

  • I recently found out that lard is mostly unsaturated fats both mono and poly. I think I’ll try making one batch of fries with lard and another with peanut oil to see which one tastes better. they’re alright anyway

  • I blame this issue on two scientists of Paul Sabatier and Wilhelm Normann for making the early patents of partially hydrogenated oils. Here is good question for the 17 or 18 century. Why didn’t somebody stop the Procter & Gamble from making a really dangerous food oil?

  • Recently I saw a margarine product that said “0g Trans Fat” but also had hydrogenated oils listed in the ingredients. How can they legally do that? Or am I missing something?

  • Going to clear some air:

Trace gives the impression that oils are fully unsaturated fats and animal fat is fully saturated fat. In fact all oils and greases found in your diet are composed of a complex mixture of both saturated and unsaturated fats (that have differences within their categories, dividing into these two groups isn’t good enough). Vegetable oils happen to contain a lot more unsaturated fats than saturated fats, this is why they are liquid in room temperature. This is also why all vegetable oils are not made equal, but some have a better concentration of unsaturated fats and necessary fatty acids like omega-3’s.

  • Okay, but WHAT ARE trans-fats?  You didn’t answer the question.  You just explained the difference between saturated and unsaturated, and what hydrogenated is, and then said that trans-fats are bad.  So the question remains, what are trans-fats and why are they bad?

  • Isn’t CLA a trans-fat? Isn’t CLA good for you in the correct amount? Will CLA be exempt or will companies be required to remove CLA from butter? Won’t that increase costs? Why is the government hell bent on forcing people to consume their diets? They’ve never made a good diet policy, remember the ’90 food pyramid? Thanks government for giving 10,000,000 kids diabetes, you’re doing good in the world. Now we have a banning of fat in schools?! My kid will not eat that processed poison, its not food.

Labeling is great. Mandate labeling and transparency. Oh but the government isn’t in favor of transparency (or rather the lobbiests with their hands in the pockets of big government jerking them off while the US population tries to ignore it uncomfortably.) Can’t be honest, but we can force feed you poison while telling you its good for you and trying to tell you its against the law to not eat it… and then wonder why there is a decrease in trust in our government. WTF government.

  • Don’t even have to watch the video to tell you what trans-fats are.  They’re little fu*king grimlins that sneak into your closet every night and sew your clothes a little tighter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
