The main reason is that seafood contains two omega-3 fats associated with a reduced risk for heart problems: docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Adequate intake of omega-3’s may also lower your risk of dementia — perhaps because they support blood vessel function (and your blood vessels feed your brain), as well as reduce inflammation. If you’re thinking to yourself, ‘wow, that’s a big job,’ you’re right.

Omega-3s are essential fatty acids. They are considered essential because your body doesn’t produce them for you so you must get them from the foods you eat. Most Americans don’t get enough Omega-3s. We are far more likely to consume Omega-6s, which are found in poultry, eggs, wheat, vegetable oils, nuts, and seeds. The answer to that is because most people today don’t get enough.

Before I get into why that is, let’s look at what they do. Omega-3s are one type of polyunsaturated fat that are called ‘essential fatty acids’ that you must get from your diet or supplements because your body can not make them. Another type of essential fats are the omega-6s. If you prefer to get your omega-3s from seafood, consider the following as the richest sources of EPA and DHA. Most experts recommend you get a minimum of 250-500 mg of EPA and DHA a day to support heart, brain and eye health.

In the meantime, don’t forget to check your omega-3 level!Seafood, walnuts, soy, flaxseed, and other foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids are believed to be some of the best “superfoods” for heart health. Often recommended for. Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of essential fat required for optimal health, wellness, and development. You can get them from fatty fish and certain plant foods as well as fish oil supplements.

  • Hii,thank you for the good information but here I just want to know am suffering from nutritional deficieny but I had vit d deficiency n my calcium level is all right phosphorous is also oky but still I hv my joint pain.I took vitamin d supplement ten day continuesly under doctor treatment but I hv my joint pain,n also dry skin,my natural skin is oily but due to deficiency my skin gets dry n poor skin tone due to deficiency.Can tell me is this omega 3 fatty acid deficirncy that am suffering also,my hair is also falling out n my vitamin e deficiency also I hv.My CBC isalie right mchc is just on border line.Plz let me know which deficiency lost natural skin tone.I hv check everythings all.At the beginning I am suffering from huge iron deficiency from serum farttin n my serum iron is 60 n there ref range is 45 to 145.So tell plz ma’am

  • Speaking of fish oil supplements, I suggested a few weeks ago that by freezing fish oil pills, you could eliminate the after taste. Did you give it a try?

  • I just bought tablets with fish oil I wanted to use them every day like it says but now it just slipped to once a week, men get 43% chance to die a horrible death or survive and wish they’ve died. Not very comforting ��

  • The most important thing is to mention the minimmum amount of EPA and DHA we should look for in any good omega 3 supplement to consider it as a good one. I particularly only buy the brands which have at least 0,6 g of EPA + DHA summed up in a amount of each 1 g from the total amount of oil contained in the capsule.

I went to GNC and purchase some omega-3s tablets and was just taking them once a day but I wasn’t eating a lot of fish or the other items on your list. I’m definitely going to add three servings of these fish into my eating plan and I will definitely watch out that I do not taking more than 4 grams a day.   • By taking liquid omega-3s it’s easy to detect by smell or taste if it’s rancid, unlike if it’s enclosed in capsules. Taking supplements before a meal also decreases the risk of having those fish smelling burps… Where I live it’s common to take a daily spoonful of cod liver oil, a great way to get that DHA, EPA, vitamin A and D!
