Why You Should Skip Pre-Workout Oatmeal THE DOWNSIDE OF FIBER. One cup of plain oatmeal (cooked in water) supplies only 166 calories, which is pretty low. Even PRE-TRAINING OATMEAL ALTERNATIVES.

Swapping your bowl of oats for an easier-to-digest meal that is higher in simple Serves: 4 |. That’s because oatmeal contains higher levels of protein and fiber, and much lower sugar levels than your average cereals, baked goods or pastries. Eating oats for bodybuilding can be fuel for long-term satiety.

Your body will need that steady flow. But the benefits of oatmeal don’t just apply after workouts. Oatmeal is also a good choice pre -workout to prep your body and avoid training on an empty stomach. A proper pre-workout nutrition plan can take care of all of this. By timing the pre-workout meal appropriately, you should already have these essential macronutrients for growth entering your bloodstream when you walk into the gym, ready to feed those hungry muscles.

If this is the case, then all you need during your session is water. Goal #1: Extreme fat loss. If your goal is to lose the maximum amount of fat possible, your best bet is to work out first thing in the morning without eating anything beforehand. Hence the term, “fasted cardio” that you may or may not have seen thrown around.

Ive never heard anyone to say that you should eat old fashioned oats 30 minutes before workout. It probably has more to do with meal timing than what you ate, depending on the meal size you wanna eat it 1-3 hours before workout. I’m actually eating two eggs scrambled on top of this and putting splenda* and cinnamon in the oatmeal.

But regardless of which you choose, Slavin says all types of oatmeal are considered whole grains, and all should be more or less equal in terms of their basic nutritional properties.

They used Phenylalanine concentration as the observable, which is very decieving, as it is mostly the branched, hydrophobic AAs that are used for muscle protein in your body…. perhaps the conc. post workout remains high because it is not preferentially taken up by the muscle system anyway…

    Also they show arterial aa conc., not muscular aa conc., as you stated. I think you just misspoke, but nonetheless, a major percentage of Phe in the blood is not taken up by the skelettal muscle.

  • I’m an endurance athlete and these meals are actually pretty similar to what I eat pre and post-long run AND pre and post-longer weight training session. I’m marathon training and doing my best to lose a bit of body fat while holding onto most of my lean muscle mass. I’ve found that upping my protein intake, in terms of food, along with a daily dose of BCAAs, is REALLY helping me do that!

  • Hello, lovely inspiration, Stephanie! I love your work! I’m interested if you could do a Scientific aproach of a food-pisode (food episode) for those who do a lot of cardio/HIIT sessions. (It’s part of my job). Think i HIT a plateau weight because my body is stressed and I do not fuel it properly (I pay attention to macros but maybe you can give us other insides). This plateau happened after a 7 month Keto diet. Now I eat normal but I struggle with carbs, I can’t see them as before even if I had results in the past while eating carbs too. I did weight training in the past month when I didn’t had so much cardio to do, ofc I see some changes, but Im curious about your point of view & ideas about how we should protect our muscle & get lean(er). Sleep and repeat.

  • it’s simple if you want to gain lean muscle and target fat loss you need a health and clean habit of eating in the correct portions, eating those foods at certain times, and managing your cheat meals if you do them properly. if you do that and train hard then it’s simple.

  • How does any nutrient you ingest with two hours of a workout have any effect? Surely there is no way that the carbs you ingested a couple of hours ago can be digested, broken down and transported throughout the body in a way that they can have a measurable effect.

  • Chad you seem like a nice young man but you couldn’t be more wrong about that pre-workout meal you are touting. First let me say that I am talking about all natural athletes and not PED’s athletes that eat 6 meals a day and are fueled well beyond what Nature designed for us. You want to train in a fasted state with a cup of black coffee and water and perhaps a pinch of sea salt. When you train in a fasted state, you burn fat (and not the massive amount of sugar in your pre-workout meal) Also training fasted kicks in your HGH that helps you to heal and grow stronger and leaner.   • Well this started off by making me feel good. I fast and have been breaking it with oats, protein peanutbutter, and maybe some strawberries before my workout everyday. Didn’t know how good of a choice that was, I just like it.

First let me say that I am talking about all natural athletes and not PED’s athletes that eat 6 meals a day and are fueled well beyond what Nature designed for us. You want to train in a fasted state with a cup of black coffee and water and perhaps a pinch of sea salt. When you train in a fasted state, you burn fat (and not the massive amount of sugar in your pre-workout meal) Also training fasted kicks in your HGH that helps you to heal and grow stronger and leaner.   • I’m an endurance athlete and these meals are actually pretty similar to what I eat pre and post-long run AND pre and post-longer weight training session. I’m marathon training and doing my best to lose a bit of body fat while holding onto most of my lean muscle mass.     Moderate-High GI Carbs weights

    Rice cakes

  • Some years ago I used to live in Germany. There I was given a crazy diet. MOST carbs of the day had to be eaten AFTER the workout. So from the first moment when I stepped into the gym (and during the whole workout) I was hungry as hell, and couldn’t train properly because of the hunger. On the other side, after the workout, despite being hungry, I just couldn’t eat TONS of carbs as prescribed. It was just too much. Also, since I was training in the evening, having to overeat just before going to bed I developed a bigger belly instead of getting rid of it.
    In another video I saw that Jeremy as well is recommending eating carbs RIGHT AFTER the workout. But I’m still working out in the late evening! The fat belly effect is always right behind the corner.
    Where to place carbs (and how many are supposed to be eaten) is still the biggest issue for me.

  • Guys, build muscle doesn’t need to be hard (I used to think it did). I’ll give you some advice right now. Look for a diet plan called Custokebon Secrets. Seriously, that program has transformed my entire life. I probably shouldn’t even be mentioning it because I don’t want a bunch of other folks out there running the same “game” but whatever, I am in a good mood today so I will share the wealth haha.

  • This meal is delicious i eat it 1-2 hours before going to the gym so it has time to digest and i drink a pre workout shake with it then when i go to the gym i have a protein shake or sometimes just a bottle of water either will do. Then 30 minutes after my workout i eat a cheese burger and some medium fries from mc-Donald’s with a grilled chicken salad and another bottle of water or a medium coke. Dont know if the fries and cheese burger are the best but i eat them to get some some more protein and a little fat into my body so im fueled for the rest of the day. (I will sometimes get some bacon strips too and eat those later in in the day with some potatoes and fries) (can any one let me know if this is a good workout meal for the day or not)

  • In the study of tipton et al. They used Phenylalanine concentration as the observable, which is very decieving, as it is mostly the branched, hydrophobic AAs that are used for muscle protein in your body…. perhaps the conc. post workout remains high because it is not preferentially taken up by the muscle system anyway…

    Also they show arterial aa conc., not muscular aa conc., as you stated. I think you just misspoke, but nonetheless, a major percentage of Phe in the blood is not taken up by the skelettal muscle.

  • Yeah but what about if the pre-workout meal would be breakfast and only protein and fat.. when you wake up you are already in the state that your body is burning fat,because there is no glykogen left from night so you just dont take any sacharids with pre workout meal and hit the gym?

  • Ok, need everyone’s input and suggestions. I workout at 6am five days a week. For a little over a year they’ve been “fasted” since I don’t get up super early (4am would be eating 2 hrs prior to gym per the video) to make breakfast.

    After watching this though I think I’m going to give it a try… wake up at 4:30, eat, the. Gym at 6am. BUT I have zero clue what to eat. Here’s the kicker, I don’t eat eggs. I know I know… so other than eggs, what do y’all suggest?

But I contradict ur suggestions for more than 2eggs per day because it’s very unhealthy n could lead to problems like stomach n intestinal ulcer even liver, intestinal n stomach can also occur because of that. (It’s part of my job). Think i HIT a plateau weight because my body is stressed and I do not fuel it properly (I pay attention to macros but maybe you can give us other insides). This plateau happened after a 7 month Keto diet. Now I eat normal but I struggle with carbs, I can’t see them as before even if I had results in the past while eating carbs too. I did weight training in the past month when I didn’t had so much cardio to do, ofc I see some changes, but Im curious about your point of view & ideas about how we should protect our muscle & get lean(er). Wanted to try Reverse Diet, but i figured I cant cut off my classes:)) Maybe you suggest some supplements?! Im a fan of natural way even if it takes time! Im patient! Thank you very much, friend!
