“When people start eating healthier, which usually means more vegetables and possibly swapping refined grains for whole grains, they sometimes find they’re getting stomach upset,” she says. “That might include bloating, feeling overfull, even nausea in some cases.”. If the foods you’re eating on your diet are high in fiber, the sudden increase will cause gas, bloating, nausea, cramping and stomach pain, according to MedlinePlus. High-fiber foods include bran, wheat, oats, peas, beans, fruit and vegetables.

Excess upper intestinal gas can result from swallowing more than a usual amount of air, overeating, smoking or chewing gum. Excess lower intestinal gas can be caused by eating too much of certain foods, by the inability to fully digest certain foods or by a disruption in the bacteria normally found in the colon. Foods that cause excess gas.

Packaged sugar-free and “diet” foods like candy, cola, and certain snack bars may save you calories, but they’re filled with chemicals that can cause your stomach to expand like a pufferfish.   • I went through this ten years ago and it backfired badly. Adding ACV, whether dilluted or by pill, made my symptoms ten times worse. Same for acidic trigger foods.

    Antacids are the only thing that works for me aside from total fasting. Baking soda works great for me but it destroys teeth (so does ACV).

    PP Inhibitors are terrible. But regular antacids are the only way I can live comfortably. They also fixed my allergies. If you suffer from certain types of allergies, there is nothing better (I tried all the natural stuff for those, too).

    Just be careful if you do this acid-raising protocol. It can be very damaging if you already have too much acid.

  • What do you think of traditional foods? What of your ancestors didnt even eat gluten? But cereals like millet, fonio etc. My stomach doesnt like store-bought dairy but raw dairy is fine for me and I plan to re-introduce it. Now Im really wondering which cereals and I can re-introduced… I would love to know your thoughts about this.

  • I know how food affects my gut. I Have been gluten free for 2 medical conditions. One medical condition since I was a child, and another medical issue since I was a teen. Since I started being gluten free ( 1970’s)I’d never felt so damn good. I also have a tree nut allergy, and egg allergy. I eat a lot of fresh Vegetables and fruit, and a protein with a small carb. I eat very little processed food. I had to see a different doc, so I filled out the form, and when the nurse took my paperwork, she said I didn’t list the medications. I said I don’t take any medications, she was shocked! She asked “none at all?” I said if I have a bad headache I may take an oc like Tylenol. Then I see the doc, he says the same thing, I hadn’t listed my meds, I told him the same thing, he said “ women your age take medications” I said “ medications are for people who need them” and I left.

  • My life was all good before 28 with no stomache issues ever, all of a sudden I went to amsterdam ate some oysters and something happened caught an infection I guess my stomache got destroyed followed by infection, gastritis, GERD, I almost got every problem on the earth in my stomache I went to doctors every month. I know we need pepsin to digest proteins but will your body make enough on its own when you take HCL without? I’ve been trying to find info on this.   • It’s weird for me because I wake up at 6 am and get prepared for school I go for the morning wee wee and sit on the toilet for 30 minutes sometimes and nothing comes out even though I feel the need of a number 2 the second I arrive to school my stomach starts aching rumbling etc and I won’t use the school’s toilets if it was a life and death situation lol

  • For the last 5 years, I was trying to gain weight because I am super thin, and every time I try to eat I get full so quickly after that I feel pain in my stomach and nausea also don’t want to eat for the rest of the day.

  • Seeing this makes me think I have the same thing. I have nearly constant bloating, and I see undigested peas or blueberries all the time in my stools (which tend to be very loose), and I tend to eat very fast. The other day I made some cornbread, but I misread the recipe and put way too much baking soda in it. The funny thing is that my digestion was really good (less bloating and solid stools) after eating some of the cornbread. Over the next couple of weeks, every time I choked down some of this cornbread (lots of jam) my digestion was perfect. Thanks for the great info!

  • My GI Dr diagnosed me with acid reflux and put me on Prevacid. I took it every day for 7 years and ended up anemic. It turns out I’m allergic to dairy. It took me 3 1/2 years to build up my iron stores again.

  • I used to see my mom struggled with this & could do nothing about it �� the medications they had she was allergic to and it kept her in the hospital almost every other week I feel for the people & the families going thru it you have my heart ❤️I hate that she’s gone but seeing her go thru this type of pain for so long puts me at ease she doesn’t have to suffer any more

  • So basically this is my story, I had an eating disorder for a year whereby I was restricting and then decided to get help in June 2019. Luckily I have no issue with gaining weight now, I was stuck in a habit of not eating and lost a lot of weight! Therefore, it was slightly easier for me to go on a surplus and start eating again and begin recovery! Therefore, in recovery my increase in intake started and I was on a surplus everyday, making sure I got more than enough in even if I wasn’t hungry. Everything was going well and I was gaining weight without any issue or real severe symptoms that are worth noting.

    However it got to the end of October 2019. (I thought I had a lucky enough escape ��) Then I started to experience a wide range of physical symptoms like a lot of acid reflux and have now been told I have gastroparesis after a meal study was done.

    Maybe my recovery from June October isn’t a lot of time in recovery so I’m hoping that this “gastroparesis” and reflux maybe resolves over time and is just a symptom of recovery that came on me a bit later? but it’s making recovery 10x harder with bursting after just a few bites and reflux occurring:( My belly also bloats like crazy after something so small and it wasn’t necessarily like this at the start of recovery..

    Due to getting these symptoms my intake has then decreased and I have lost some weight again (unintentionally) I can barely eat and I genuinely am trying so so hard. I am constantly full, even after a small cup of cereal my belly explodes, the bloating is crazy and I have constant reflux. I’m confused how I was fine for the first bit in recovery when gaining??

    I just hope my insides aren’t damaged for life and I don’t have this gastroparesis for life ������ If you have any advice or guidance please let me know xxx

  • What about your fix actually reversed the damage of antibiotics and accutane? I was expecting something like probiotics, anti inflammatory foods or broth to heal the lining. I cant see how it ties into what those medications did as the same happened to me.

  • Did you eat hard boiled eggs or fried eggs? Generally if you are eating fried eggs, scrambled eggs it can be quite oily plus the fat from the yolk. The fat can affect your skin once ingested plus the fat is easy to get on your chin while you are eating, a good way to tell if eating is causing it is when you break out on your chin. Best way to eat eggs is hard boiled avoid the yolk, however you need at least 1 yolk to get in a bit of healthy fats.

Also, is the weakened LES temporary or permanent? Is the LES malfunction curable or not?   • I had the absolute worst stomach my whole life! A couple years ago I found L-glutamine. Take 1/4 teaspoon at night before bed and a quarter teaspoon when you wake up in the morning.
