Why Healthy Eating Beats Fad Diets. by Kevin Gray. November 24, 2018. No Comments. Share it: The Boston Medical Center estimates that 45 million Americans go on a diet each year. In 2018, nearly half of all Americans.

If your diet is eliminating entire food groups or restricting your diet too much, it may be time to take a step back. Fad diets may also impact your physical health. Because so many of these trendy diets are so restrictive, they often lack important nutrients like fiber, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

Fad diets tend to appeal more to people’s vanity than to their desire to stay healthy. The focus is on inches and pounds, not reducing the risk of diabetes or heart disease. “They’re more motivated. Because fad diets tend to completely cut out certain food groups, your body may react negatively to the inadequate vitamin and mineral intake. Some of the following symptoms could occur while following a fad diet, according to the Victoria State Government Better Health Channel: Dehydration.

Fatigue and sudden weakness. Nausea. Severe headaches. Eating consistently will not only help your metabolism, but make sure that you are receiving all of the vitamins and nutrients you need. “You Can Eat Whatever You Want” Isn’t True If you eat McDonald’s three times a day, you’re not going to lose weight. Studies have found that fad diets which are high in protein, such as Dukan diet, increase the risk of developing kidney stones.

Protein-rich diet raises the excretion of calcium in the urine. This. This is the second in a two-part series on the facts about fad diets, focusing on long-term trends. To learn about limited time programs like the Whole 30 or juicing, please read part one. The most effective healthy eating is habit-based.

Ongoing efforts to eat a diet based on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein. “A fad diet won’t change your set point. It’s just restricting calories,” he says. “Your body is very efficient. You can successfully lose weight for a while, but at some point, your body simply adjusts to need fewer calories to function.”.

  • I went on the Keto diet and cured my lifetime of horrible psoriasis after trying every. single. diet and medicine intervention. Anyone who says that keto is horrible for you should tell that to my bleeding, cracking dry skin. Make your own decisions based on trail and error, do what makes you feel healthy

  • I saw a presentation by a vegan professor that admits that low carb diet actually “sticks” more although virtually nobody follows their diet strictly after a year. And although he’s a ethical vegan he said that for health, Keto & Atkins& Paleo are actually has very decent track records especially for people that has failed other diets.

  • Keto diet also is very effective for type ii diabetes. I reversed my diabetes in about two months with keto. Lots of keto options now for bread, pasta, etc.

  • When I was 50 years old I did that thing most 50 year olds do I figured I better hurry up and get into shape before I die. So I went on a diet of high water content low sugar fruits and vegetables. That was the only criteria after 3 months I lost 75 pounds and felt like I was 19 again. But then again maybe it was my imagination. One of my daughters wanted to make breakfast burritos and I acquiesced. That’s all it took its lead me back on the path gaining weight. I’m a vegetarian and eat very healthy but boy do I wish I could get that fire back. And of course I didn’t cook any of it. it was all Raw so I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. My blood pressure was 120 / 80. My cholesterol was 115 my heart rate was 55 to 60 at rest I had a 32-inch waist and a 48 in chest all from eating a raw diet also if you’re wondering it brought me down to about 230 lb I hadn’t been 230 lb since high school. But again it must have been my imagination.

  • I’ve been saying all this, except you’re saying it much better. The origin of Keto is interesting. I knew about this years ago, because I have epilepsy (adults are almost never put on it-too hard to stick to. Or older kdis for that matter. With CBD oil around, not sure it’s anybody’s first choice.). I was shocked when I saw it used as a weight loss diet. I thought WTF?! That’s too restrictive.

  • He said “Lord Knows”. What about the view, that the world is created with wisdom? Does the richness in the supply from nature not support this view? And how purposeful and beneficial everything is designed? Even our brains and skills, so that we can understand the wisdom, and use it balanced and wisely, according to the purpose intended?

  • Man y’all should talk to my grandfather. He did the Atkins diet (Before it was called Keto) back when it first came out for awhile then stopped and he started doing it again about 3 or 4 years ago and hasn’t stopped since lmao, he tells me all the time that it’s “The only way to lose weight” and “The only diet that works” And will go on about how “Heart disease was unknown before sugar mills and sweets and sodas came along” and he has a wild conspiracy theory that the bakery companies that produce sweets had Dr. Atkins killed because he was causing them to lose so much money. Bruh. xD

  • Like there is a nugget of truth here. You may get the keto flue when you start. And there is bad breath. The rest seems just uneducated drivel.

  • lol its so funny cause i’ve been eating keto for a year now and my brain works, my breath isn’t bad at all, i’ve lost 35 kg (i was obese), my acne got better so now my skin looks flawless, less problem with my stomach, im feeling more energized, and i did not talk to my doctor before starting eating keto and i mean… i think we all can agree on that eating vegetables and meat is better than eating mcdonalds. Do not underestimate keto because it’ll change your life for the better before u know it and if ur interested in the keto diet then i suggest u look at ”dietdoctor.com”:)

  • why bread? why not a sweet potato? Bread is just savory cake. Serious. If you’re gonna eat carbs, eat them in vegetable form. Any nutrients you get from bread, pasta, refined rice you can get in more nutritionally dense vegetables.
I for one am going to stick to keto. Not only has it kept my epilepsy in check for 3 years, it’s also helped me to lose almost 100lbs, my health has never been better(even lowered my bad cholesterol, raised the good. I feel better tha n I did when I was a teenager(i’m 40 now) No aches, no pains. I don’t have any problems with kidney stones. Your claims are bunk buddy.

  • My body holds a lot of excess fluid and the only way I can remove that fluid is a very low carb diet that puts me in ketosis. This excess fluid gives me swollen legs and feet, shortness of breath, and high blood pressure. So, personally that makes me think that a ketosis diet does some good other than just for epilepsy.

  • “I don’t like to tell people what things are”
“you’ll never see me tell people how things are”

WHY RAW, PALEO AND KEO DIETS ARE STUPID.

You’re the fucking worst. The kind of behaviour you influence your followers to engage in is just the fucking worst. It literally just comes off as you saying shit to get ad revenue, they just do the catch-all EH THINGS CHANGE I NEVER SAY THAT.
    You’re the worst.

  • Keto thing felt kinda nitpicky. The whole argument was just that “you can’t do a true keto diet”. Ok, so then what about the average person doing keto diet the best they can? So dismissive. I did Keto for about 3 months, I was overweight. I lost 25 pounds and every aspect of my life got dramatically better. Don’t just hate on things to be cool.

  • Raw diet is definitely stupid, and paleo is kind of shooting in the dark hoping that what our ancestors ate is what is good for us. Keto is actually backed up with a few scientific benefits, and some other simple benefits, although a bit overstated sometimes.
    1. Suppresses hunger which can make it easier to lose weight and practice fasting which can have some benefits
    2. Forces you to put down addictive palatable foods that are designed to be addictive and overeaten
    3. Gives you more stable blood sugar levels i.e. not feeling jittery afteer you eat a donut in the morning
    4. Can help you preserve muscle mass when cutting weight, hence preserve your BMR (subtle)

1 and 2 are the biggest. It just makes you eat when your hungry and forces you to put away the palatable addictive foods

  • Raw and Paleo are brainless diets. They are supposed to mimic a human diet thousands of years ago when our average life span was 21

  • I think Keto has its place which is to say if you want to drop a small amount of body fat. I would say it’s easier than general calorie restriction since you don’t have to count macros/calories once you get into the swing of things. It is however a temporary diet, I would think 90% of people cannot swear off carbs forever and if you have a large amount of weight to lose, another strategy might be best.

  • 1:12 There is no evidence Homo Erectus existed 2.5 million years ago, the oldest known remains of that hominin date to 1.8 million years ago.

  • raw/paleo/keto work for people because the change gets people to eat less heavily processed foods, not that it’s inherently more healthy than other natural unprocessed diets

  • raw/paleo/keto work for people because the change gets people to eat less heavily processed foods, not that it’s inherently more healthy than other natural unprocessed diets

  • I’ve recently watched a meat industry propaganda that says our guts are smaller because we eat meat
But cooking makes more sense as a reason

  • 1:12 There is no evidence Homo Erectus existed 2.5 million years ago, the oldest known remains of that hominin date to 1.8 million years ago.

  • I’m tired of hearing stuff like “humans are the only animal that harvests milk from other species, it’s unnatural” or “humans are the only animals that modify their food, it’s wrong”.
trust me, if a cat could milk a cow it would. if a wolf could make ossobuco, it would.
further more, humans are the only animal that wears clothes, uses internet and watches movies. I’ve never EVER heard those weirdos from before complain about that.

  • “Speaking of dumb, the paleo diet”
Ah yes, the diet that is de facto given to half of the people I know because it turned out they are allergic to the things the paleo dietists claim to be bad for you

I understand where you’re coming from but uagnú. Every lie has some truth behind it, and the truth is, way more people than we think of cannot eat some types of food we take for granted.

  • is the only reason why you think paleo is stupid is because some cavemen ate grains and because kale didn’t exist back then?? Extremely rude title to your followers who follow many different diets for their own health. I get you prefaced this video with eat whatever works for you, but then you go on to shit on the diet that has personally saved me from my two autoimmune diseases. The concept of paleo is to eat things that humans are meant to eat and can digest easily. Today’s food is filled with chemicals and refined oils and sugars and just straight up shit. The paleo diet cuts out all of the crap. Even though kale may not have been around back then, it’s still healthy to eat (organically at least due to high amounts of pesticides) and grains are IN FACT hard to digest. Soooooo get outta here with shitting on the paleo diet and feel lucky that you are not chronically sick.

  • Raw Diet: Objectively, fucking stupid
    Paleo:…
Keto: Effective for loosing a lot of weight without workouts, but being in ketosis puts a lot more strain on your heart.

  • 3:30 mmm, no that initial division of labor was brought about by food surplus from agriculture, but I’m sure cooking helped with that too, just at an earlier stage and smaller scale.

  • When someone looks obese discuss about “diet”. Oh right. Just eat your sugar. You are the dumb one, healthy keto is not exactly the same with Atkins. Educate yourself, watch Dr. Berg videos..
You are discussing keto based on stereotype. Dumb.

  • Most stupid video ever. Keto is more scientific and doesn’t go after “raw”. We consume Butter, MCT oils, etc. to fit to our macros, not because it is natural of raw though we prefer organic / grass fed.
Anyone who’s watching videos of Dr. Berg, knows how trying hard this video is. Trying to be relevant. Ok

  • I can vouch that Keto is incredibly difficult to maintain, and your ability to stick to the diet is largely based on your life schedule and access to food. In college, I lived in a dorm and had instant and unlimited access to healthy food for every meal at a dining commons (Grilled Chicken Breasts, black coffee, cheese and deli meat buffets) so I ended up losing literally around 40 pounds in a semester of school. It was the most mentally and physically healthy and prosperous time in my life and literally people who knew me were shocked to see my appearance change. I would refuse to store any food in my dorm room, period, and would eat two meals a day of chicken breast, black coffee, or scrambled eggs. Maybe some bacon or cheese or deli meat, that’s all. That said, I had centered my entire life around my eating, not the other way around, which was only pragmatic as a relatively non-busy college student. These days I find it very difficult to stay so rigidly on a low-carb diet.

  • I would recommend doing a little research on how the things that we consume affect the hormones released in our bodies. These hormones affect a lot of things like fat storage, hunger and inflammation. Inflammation itself is a root cause of many age-related illnesses. my biggest problem with most diets was that they required me to be hungry all the time. When I switched my diet to a ketogenic diet that hunger dropped off. After doing the ketogenic diet for six months my wife basically forced me to go get a check-up at the doctor. at this point they took me off of all four of my blood pressure medications and my high cholesterol medication. Plus I had lost 90 pounds after the first year. A lot of other health issues seem to clear up as well. I used to have to eat antacid tablets every day, now I can’t remember the last time I took a Tums. Also joint pain seems to have almost completely gone away. In my opinion changing to a ketogenic diet was one of the best decisions I have made.

  • Evolution takes millions of years I highly doubt there has been enough generations to truly change physiology from not cooking at all to suddenly really depending on cooking to survive.

  • This guy is slightly ignorant to a lot of other perspectives/facts about evolution and culture. Not stupid just not for you

Edit just finished the video, very ignorant actually.

  • Keto:literally proven to reverse multiple diseases, get people in better shape and the best weight loss diet in the world.
People who don’t like the diet: “No actual arguments I’mma just say it’s dumb.”

  • The same avarage joe’s advice… sugar is bad, eat your whole grains not processed junk. And you can’t bring one evidence to back that up.

  • why bread? why not a sweet potato? Bread is just savory cake. Serious. If you’re gonna eat carbs, eat them in vegetable form. Any nutrients you get from bread, pasta, refined rice you can get in more nutritionally dense vegetables.

  • The diet those kids were eating was already not keto due to..strawberries and pineapple? the whole point is to keep your blood sugar bottomed out so already the premise here is shit. If its sweet on the tongue its a no go on keto, that includes the lactose in that much cream.. Keto is not fad its been proven to be highly effective for weight loss and reversal of type 2 diabetes when done properly. I personally lost 70 lbs, reversed stage 2 hypertension and fatty liver as well as pre diabetes with strict keto for a year all while my cholesterol was “healthy”. keto is a game changer because it goes against all the junk science in the medical community from the last 50 years. Dietary cholesterol and fats do not cause heart disease, insulin resistance does. Spiking your insulin every few hours makes even healthy people insulin resistant. its that simple.

  • If are overweight because of an eating problem (eating to much) then eating food that just passes through you, ie making you full without making you fat, seems like a really good idea to me.

  • With all my respect but making conclusions of something from the research that was made 4 years ago not the best approach. It’s like if people would still argue about the earth is being flat…

  • Adam, I watched the video, read your follow-up comment in the comment section and appreciate the perspective but you don’t have to post videos with titles like this. Please don’t!

  • He said “Lord Knows”. What about the view, that the world is created with wisdom? Does the richness in the supply from nature not support this view? • Coffee is an addictive substance that’s been shown to cause insomnia, hypertension, and psychosis, among other maladies. And that’s just scratching the surface. And that’s not even getting into extreme wealth disparities among the participants in the coffee economy.

  • I really like your video sir. Informative and specific. Soooo much over dose of incorrect information and wrong fast food science now a days. Just because its up-loaded on the internet doesn’t mean its always correct or legit. Keep up the good work.

  • I’ve recently watched a meat industry propaganda that says our guts are smaller because we eat meat
But cooking makes more sense as a reason

  • Even as someone who loves keto I am in full agreement with everything in this video.

Trust me nearly everyone I have shown keto has then gone on to try it but be like “I’m doing a keto-like! diet right now” and I facepalm and do the “no stupid you need 70% + of your calories from fat.”

For me Keto is absolutely incredible at keeping me from ballooning up but I do also jump out every couple of months for a week or two and go into carb loading.

  • There you go. Another sponsored LIE… I have been using KETO for many years now. Lost weight, got better health, I take no medicine, had no use of it. got more agile and Healthy…Keto is a tool and you guys need to understand it becomes a life style. along with intermittent fasting and cardio. This is a perfect match for me. I surely don’t trust my doc anymore who told me I was gone lose my muscles, face big issues and diseases…wonder why they all say that? Just look at the posters they all hang at their walls..All sponsored dudes… My advice, use common sense: yes occasionally you will face keto flu (there are plenty of solutions against these) yes sometimes you will have hair loss and it will grow stronger…I am 59 and I run my 2 10 ks a week: I have never been so sharp and healthy…. Bottom line is: the SYSTEM wants you to eat sugar and junk food…just look at the millions of people around you with systemic diseases..SUGAR is the ultimate DANGER my friends.

  • Sorry but your “carb diets” that include carbs in meals make it harder to lose weight. it forces me to eat food that makes me keep craving more and more but because of the calories I force myself to stop and eventually quit. Keto helps me 1 be less hungry and 2 help me lose weight faster. I’ll stick with keto thx

  • This diet can cause severe leg cramps, constipation etc. It’s amazing in terms of the cognitive benefits but the potential side effects just aren’t worth it for me.

  • Bread sure, refined carb what destroy your body from inside, your gut with gluten and high Blood sugar Spike because sugar is toxic for body

  • After a stroke, I began following a keto diet without realizing it. Now I am reversing my diabetic condition and my blood sugar and blood preasure is well under control. Keto saved my damned life!

  • I went vegan out of ethical reasons but after researching about healthy eating just went whole foods. Nobody needs crazy fads, carbs are not the devil and neither is cooking or grains.

  • Its not black and white. Eating too much farm factory meat and cheese has its problems. People consume excessive salt with it. Eating 50% carbs however is too high and its what is causing our sugar issues. Refined flours, whitened rice and corn are the problem. The happy medium is consuming a lower amount. 30% is probably good and mainly whole carbs like beans, potatoes and legumes, or carrots or whole corn and peas. Then maybe 30% protein and 40 % good fats (nuts, olives, avocados, coconut, and maybe 5-10% animal based if you want but non processed and free range. It has to be balanced.

  • google, “lancet keto study” you will come across this…”However, results varied by the source of macronutrients: mortality increased when carbohydrates were exchanged for animal-derived fat or protein (1·18, 1·08–1·29) and mortality decreased when the substitutions were plant-based”

  • Humans survived for hundreds of thousands of years eating Ketogenic. It is what your body really needs. Carbs are bad, causing many diseases, Vegetable oils are poison to you. Throw out the carbs and vegetable oil. Go Keto. Eat meat with a good fat content 15%. Eat cheese, whole-fat dairy, butter, and you will see the fat on your body start to go away. It works. It can reverse and cure diabetes in many cases. You will feel more energy, and feel much better when you are running on the primary fuel of fat. Try it!

  • A mild state of ketosis is the best place to be. We are biologically hunter gatherers and the ketogenic diet mimics what us as humans have evolved to eat. There’s a reason the keto diet “treats” so many illnesses and that’s because carbohydrate dense diets cause them. We are the only species on Earth that struggles to maintain our natural body weight.

  • Narrator: I’m going to publish a video supporting carbs

    Later

Narrator: I’ve been rushed into hospital with heart failure

Yep you go get that bread

  • I did keto and nothing bad happened. Keto FLE happened, but it went away. All those side effects you mentioned (except bad breath and dehydration) happened for like a day or so but it all went away ‍♂️

I only did it for about 5 months tho.

  • Losing weight does not mean you are healthy. Proper nutrition is key to good health, not weight. Keto increases cholesterol, risk of kidney disease and digestive issues. Just because you lose weight does not mean it’s healthy. Thanks for sharing some truth.

  • I went vegan out of ethical reasons but after researching about healthy eating just went whole foods. Nobody needs crazy fads, carbs are not the devil and neither is cooking or grains.

  • This entire video is propaganda lmao. The fact that the USDA recommendations are mentioned really suggests that Science Insider does not, in fact, research real science. Just science purchased by Big Sugar.

  • I don’t trust as well, but I always experiment with my body, oh sounds awful right? So you know guys and girls, this keto diet really works. I tried myself and it’s been about 4 weeks. Results? Lost 6 inches in belly fat without any workouts! Just for lazy girl like me, hehe. Now trying to plan ahead everything, as it’s again my laziness =). Well, by the way, who is looking for keto-recipes and is lazy as me to search every time on youtube, I found one cookbook with illustrations, timing, portions. If you want I can give you the link where you can download it. And it’s for Free, while quality is pretty good enough. So just go yourself and check it out. • Unlike ungulates, we don’t eat GRASS, NOT EVEN COOKED, BECAUSE NOT EVEN COOKING MAKES GRASS EDIBLE TO US. 3:00 in, still waiting for a valid argument!

YEAH BUD, GO AHEAD AND TRY COOKING GRASS.
IT’S NOT GOING TO BE A GOOD TIME FOR YOU.

Halfway through, he enters a commercial break. Look, it’s not that I’m against COOKING, it’s that this “grass” comparison is invalid to the argument of whether or not to cook food. The reason we don’t eat grass is because its plant cellular structure integrates plates of silicon that nothing can actually digest; ungulates ferment grass to extract sugars from its chemical makeup and leave a massive proportion of its biomass behind. In a way, they themselves aren’t eating the grass, but rather only the chemical byproducts their gut microbes excrete. Grass also contains other volatile chemical compounds that are excessively poisonous to us. I guess Adam is never going to address this and think he’s right for the wrong reasons. Poor form. What a shame.

  • I’m very glad to see this video. I’m actually quite outspoken against a keto diet. When I was really cutting weight, I was eating 1200 calories per day, 20 g of carbs. And it worked. But I felt like absolute garbage. I was dehydrated most of the time, I’d have constant headaches, I couldn’t sleep, had this mental fog… it was horrible. I bumped up to 1400 calories and 100 g of carbs per day, and I felt much better.

My dietician said that I’d basically end up feeling worse and worse, continuing like that, and I’d notice a substantial gain in weight once I broke my diet. But, going low-carb has been great for me… you know, with occasional forays into carb-rich foods, but I’ve gotten a lot healthier cutting some the processed carbs like white bread, white rice, sugar, etc.

  • Can keto be a life style change, because i think what matters is the long term. You don’t just wanna temporarily be healthy I want something I know I can be trusted as a lifestyle. I kind of agree with the idea of balanced diet because it’s less of a restriction then keto. Idk opinions?

  • USDA recommenced intake is actually very unhealthy for human biology. It’s not a theory or anything. It’s a fact. I genuinely don’t know why they still have those recommendations.

  • google, “lancet keto study” you will come across this…”However, results varied by the source of macronutrients: mortality increased when carbohydrates were exchanged for animal-derived fat or protein (1·18, 1·08–1·29) and mortality decreased when the substitutions were plant-based”

  • Here is the real question why are doctors and even dietitians not on the same page half say its healthy and half say it’s dangerous so which is it safe or dangerous

  • Obviously a hit piece, but this video actually makes a strong argument on trying Keto.
BTW, high cholesterol is not a disease. It is a made up term to help sell statins.
Losing weight is a great thing, and keto type diets work better than low fat diet. The problem with low fat diets is that people will eventually quit and gain back all their lost weight and more. People who can stick to keto keep the weight off.
Also, the reason keto dieters stop losing weight is because they are reaching a healthy weight.
It’s well known that low fat diets don’t work because of constant hunger. Keto diets, on the other hand, can be maintained because hunger is basically eliminated. Also, there are no limits on how much food you can eat on a keto diet, unlike low fat diets. The low fat diet doesn’t work because restricting calories causes insatiable hunger, where the keto diet does not. If somebody quits the keto diet, it’s because they don’t have the discipline, not because of hunger. Low fat dieters almost always quit because hunger forces them to eat.
Keto works, and disciplined people can stay on the diet.

  • Your body’s main source of fuel is Carbohydrates. All calories are NOT equal. A balanced diet is the only reasonable and feasibly healthy diet that is sustainable long-term. Understand Macronutrients or “macro’s” as they’re called; Proteins, which are responsible for muscle growth and maintenance usually come by meat like Fish, Chicken, or Red-Meat. Carbs, which are once again your body’s primary source of fuel are found usually in food items like Rice, Beans, Breads & Pastas, and Fats are found in things like Avocados and Nuts as well as more common food ingredients like Oil’s, Butter & Fried Foods (avoid unhealthy fats)… A Healthy Diet that WORKS long term is a diet that isn’t so restricted, clean and simply balanced. Based on your weight and goals fat loss, muscle growth, toning or bulking set up your Macros in a pie chart and part to 100(%). This is the only way you’ll be truly successful, this is the only diet where you can eat whatever you want for the most part and still look and feel great, but more importantly enjoy life and implement healthy habits into your every day life forever.

  • The USDA . The best diet is a balanced one?? You’re clueless and probably a fat lazy tool. Mixing fat and carbs cause insulin spikes to dump fat on you’re fat body. The best diet should be a ratio similar to the dislike to like ratio on this video likes-fat / dislikes-carbs

  • You dumbass. You actually said the BEST diet is balanced with fat, protein, and carbs. Bullshit. The best diet helps you lose weight and get healthy. Thats keto. Pure and simple

  • I have no words to say about it. This completely changes my life. Don’t trust me, Just check it out and see yourself. If you really want to change the perception of society about yourself then check this out. this will change your life guaranteed.

  • Nutrition is the science. When it comes to accrediting weight (not necessarily fat) loss to a particular diet that’s simply bullshit.

If you simply burn more calories than you ingest, you’ll lose weight even sat on a sofa all day. Most of you are new and don’t know which is why you’re here. When you’re motivated and workout you’re probably doing this in addition to been in a calorie deficit “diet”. That means you’re already in a deficit AND training on top putting you in a drastic deficit hence the sudden and rapid loss of weight.

I lost a stone and my diet wasn’t considered “healthy” at all. Largely take away, KFC and McDonalds. I just controlled the calories.

  • The “Balanced Diet” aka SAD (Standard American Diet) is the worst diet you could ever eat, it is a diet for slaves to keep you sick all your life and spend your salary on medical bills. It is only promoted because big pharma owns everything and sponsors every study to favor this diet. Ketogenic or Carnivore diet are the only diets humans ate for 99% of its existence, carbs only came in the last 10.000 years with agriculture and it brought all the “modern diseases” with it, aka diabetes, alzheimers, dementia, cancer etc. Eating what you are made of is not dangerous, it is madness to think otherwise! Cholesterol, animal protein and saturated animal fats is what your body consists of, eating anything else is just a slave diet.

  • Yeah but less chewing needed has caused our mouths to shrink hence why crooked teeth is a given nowdays. Wild animals and primitive hunans had teeth that wete orderly but worn down. Its affects our breathing and sleep.

  • Friendly reminder that the fad diet is the standard american diet. People have been on carnivore/keto in historic times and only really consumed carbohydrates sparingly or as a starvation protocol.

  • This diet can cause severe leg cramps, constipation etc. It’s amazing in terms of the cognitive benefits but the potential side effects just aren’t worth it for me.

  • Losing weight does not mean you are healthy. Proper nutrition is key to good health, not weight. Keto increases cholesterol, risk of kidney disease and digestive issues. Just because you lose weight does not mean it’s healthy. Thanks for sharing some truth.

  • Obviously a hit piece, but this video actually makes a strong argument on trying Keto.

  • Like there is a nugget of truth here. You may get the keto flue when you start. And there is bad breath. The rest seems just uneducated drivel.

  • I started the keto diet a few weeks ago, was eating too much junk. I’m not adjusted to it yet though so it’s been tough with both insomnia and constipation for me, but I’m eating just once or twice a day and learning to cook.

Love this eBook. Easy and delicious meals and a great 4 week grocery list. Loved every recipe. It’s 60% off right now!!

  • You dumbass. You actually said the BEST diet is balanced with fat, protein, and carbs. Bullshit. The best diet helps you lose weight and get healthy. Thats keto. Pure and simple

  • The USDA (dept of Agriculture) also made the food pyramid recommending 6 to 10 servings of grains a day! “Buy our crap “
    Wake up!

  • Keto might have some useful benefits at first, but for a long healthy life, a balanced diet high in whole foods is the only way to go.

  • Filmed 10 years ago, but very much needed to hear this. Just got off of keto after 7 days and previously have attempted this, but can’t seem to do more than 7 days. The thing is, what prompted me to come off it was not the carbohydrates, but I was suspicious of this way of eating. Basically on keto you start off with high fat, moderate protein and low carb, but then you are must lower fat intake, so then your calories will be extremely low if you are on moderate fat and protein and low carb, also going to the loo is also very unnatural as only a small bit will come out (sorry tmi)

Also when people go on keto, will they eat like this for the rest of their life, if not then having a short term goal is not a healthy way to lose weight and often people will get impatient if they don’t see results straight away, basically what you’ve mentioned already.

Another thing the need for having to top up for potassium, sodium and electrolytesjust goes to show that if you are having to supplement it’s not natural and eating carbs would have prevented this.

I know you are talking about the Atkins diet, but apparently they have created this diet too.
I’m worried that not enough is out there to refute the keto diet, I usually look up diets and things to do with weight loss because it’s a habit of mine like how some people play games or watch Netflix this is like my pass time, but I can’t let myself get involved in these it’s a bit like gambling.

Anyway thank you for the vid.

  • I did keto and nothing bad happened. Keto FLE happened, but it went away. All those side effects you mentioned (except bad breath and dehydration) happened for like a day or so but it all went away ‍♂️

I only did it for about 5 months tho.

  • Bread sure, refined carb what destroy your body from inside, your gut with gluten and high Blood sugar Spike because sugar is toxic for body

  • Narrator: I’m going to publish a video supporting carbs

    Later

Narrator: I’ve been rushed into hospital with heart failure

Yep you go get that bread

  • just do low carbs diet (keto & atkins) and intermittent fasting 12/12 (eat only breakfast and dinner) on weekdays, and cheat day on weekends to eat whatever you want. you become slimmer and healthier, trust me it works.

  • This entire video is propaganda lmao. The fact that the USDA recommendations are mentioned really suggests that Science Insider does not, in fact, research real science. Just science purchased by Big Sugar.

  • It actually makes you more diabetic (ironic I know!) Keto increases risk of artery disease and cancer If you want to stay diabetic Keto is a good idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT8K6NcAigo

  • Keto is really not good for you. You NEED carbs. It’s excess carbs that are the problem here. You’ll run into so many problems if you stick with the low carb diet long term. You need your macros!! To lose fat, don’t cut foods from your diet, figure out how to “eat more and weigh less” by consuming veggies and fruits and lean meats like chicken.

  • “Why I destroy my foods’ nutrients and not my planet” or, “Why I boil my water and not my food” or “Why i beat a dead horse of a meme and not my meat”… or “Why my brain seasons its’ butter and not its’ keytone bodies”.. k. Im done now. Have great day everyone. Adams vids rule..

  • If you are in keto plateau, reduce the intake of fats.
Again, your body will switch to burn it’s own fats after burning dietary fats.

  • As Dr. Hyman says, there are essential fatty acids and essential amminoacids, but there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.

  • Hey y’all, thanks for watching the vid! A few supplemental thoughts…

I will absolutely cop to going with an oversimplified and provocative title here. Sometimes it’s easy to sum up a 13-minute piece of content in a few words that people will actually want to click on, and sometimes it’s not. You usually either need to sacrifice nuance or clickability, and anyone who makes content for a living constantly struggles with the reality that you can’t inform anyone if you don’t get their attention, and you can’t express your entire piece in a headline (because if you could, there’d be no reason to keep writing beyond the headline).

But, if you’ve watched the video, I think you’ll understand that the basic message is this: If you’re a typical over-fed First Worlder (like me), any diet that gets you out of caloric surplus and replaces junk foods with nutrient-dense ones is probably gonna be great for you.

The sense in which I’m calling keto “stupid” here is very narrow — many (most?) people who think they’re doing keto aren’t actually eating few enough carbs to be in ketosis, and there is not (yet) scientific literature proving that keto has therapeutic benefits for metabolic syndrome beyond those conferred generally by losing weight and eating less junk.

The sense in which I’m calling the raw diet “stupid” is narrow — many of its proponents call it a more “natural” diet, which is in conflict with the weight of anthropological opinion, they often fail to consider reductions in bioavailability of nutrients from raw foods, and they often fail to consider the safety implications of eating raw.

The sense in which I’m calling paleo diets “stupid” is similarly narrow — many of its proponents call it a more “natural” diet, which is in conflict with the weight of anthropological opinion.

I think the science and history behind all of that stuff is interesting, and I thought you would too, so I made a vid about it. That’s all!

Bruh. xD

  • Dairy is absolutely the worst for ms.
Sorry, but the people asking questions at the end really should use google and do some research. Google is our friend.

  • With all my respect but making conclusions of something from the research that was made 4 years ago not the best approach. It’s like if people would still argue about the earth is being flat…

  • just do low carbs diet (keto & atkins) and intermittent fasting 12/12 (eat only breakfast and dinner) on weekdays, and cheat day on weekends to eat whatever you want. you become slimmer and healthier, trust me it works.

  • To quote Good Lick Charlie: “less bacon more shaking”… to lose weight and have a healthy lifestyle you have to have a balance between eating less junk, exercise consistently, and simply making more of your own food instead of going to restaurants or buying prepared meals you just need to warm up from the frozen section of the grocery store. No need for crazy diets, simply create new habits; instead of your third chocolate bar of the day, maybe go for an apple; instead of a bag of crisps, maybe a bag of snap peas would be better; get in a good routine for exercise.

  • Following these methods, I have already lost 34 pounds since January 7, 2020…

starting at 267 pounds. Keto is not just a diet, for me it is a lifestyle that saves li

ves! I’m going for the next 30 pounds.!

  • This is ridiculous. Tens of thousands of people stick to keto just fine, and it isn’t just a diet style, it is a biological state anyone stays in when they limit carbs enough. There is also scientific proof on how carbohydrates affect your ghrelin and leptin levels, which affect satiety. I think the issue is more with who you got your information from

  • It actually makes you more diabetic (ironic I know!) Keto increases risk of artery disease and cancer If you want to stay diabetic Keto is a good idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT8K6NcAigo

  • Keto:literally proven to reverse multiple diseases, get people in better shape and the best weight loss diet in the world.
People who don’t like the diet: “No actual arguments I’mma just say it’s dumb.”

  • This is ridiculous. Tens of thousands of people stick to keto just fine, and it isn’t just a diet style, it is a biological state anyone stays in when they limit carbs enough. • I love your videos, but this is one I can’t & won’t recommend to anyone, because of how badly it handles the subject of ketogenic diets for nothing but clickbait appeal. Spreading ignorance and disinformation for clicks is usually above you, especially in an otherwise good video. It makes me frustrated & disappointed every time I remember this video exists.

  • Your title is ridiculous, and I’m sure since I did not watch the video it was short of the truth. I have been truly ketogenic for 3 years, so it is sustainable, and not that difficult!

  • Keto might have some useful benefits at first, but for a long healthy life, a balanced diet high in whole foods is the only way to go.

Ok

  • As Dr. Hyman says, there are essential fatty acids and essential amminoacids, but there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.

  • Adam, I watched the video, read your follow-up comment in the comment section and appreciate the perspective but you don’t have to post videos with titles like this. Please don’t!

  • Yeah but less chewing needed has caused our mouths to shrink hence why crooked teeth is a given nowdays. Wild animals and primitive hunans had teeth that wete orderly but worn down. Its affects our breathing and sleep.

  • 3:30 mmm, no that initial division of labor was brought about by food surplus from agriculture, but I’m sure cooking helped with that too, just at an earlier stage and smaller scale.

  • If are overweight because of an eating problem (eating to much) then eating food that just passes through you, ie making you full without making you fat, seems like a really good idea to me.

  • Your title is ridiculous, and I’m sure since I did not watch the video it was short of the truth. I have been truly ketogenic for 3 years, so it is sustainable, and not that difficult!
