  • I know you’re just trying to show healthy low cal recipes but your title is very misleading, 1200 cals is nowhere near to how much one should eat every day in order to function and be health, and that’s without taking working out and moving into account. I’ve been there, I’ve made this kind of mistake, and I can say that eating too little calories can really fuck up your metabolism. No matter your bodyweight or height, I don’t think 1200 cals is enough for any adult. It might work on short term, but it’s not the best option on the long run. Just saying xx

Because we are all different I went on a 1300 calorie deficit and I was being pretty active. After one week I discovered that I was underrating a lot.   • Can I ask a question, for reverse dieting can you do calorie cycling? I was approaching my final two weeks of dieting but then life happened and I had a few higher calorie days making my weekly average to go up by 80 kcals (as if I was starting my reverse 2 weeks earlier) then this week I increased by 50 more and again had a few higher and few lower calorie days but average was +50, should I increase again in the third week or keep a consistent calorie intake for each day and then properly start reverse diet in a controlled no calorie cycling way? Does the weekly average still apply or will my body gain fat based on the daily intake? I really want to do this slowly and properly so I don’t gain weight but I feel like I messed up the first two weeks because I didn’t plan to start my reverse diet then, and now I feel like I shocked my metabolism and body, ps.   • 1200 cals is surely less than your BMR, unless you literally do nothing all day (which you don’t cos you workout) I’m confused why you’re eating at 1200. Your metabolism must be messed up to only be able to lose fat at that calorie level.

  • I’m at 1400, pretty petite as well (21 yo, 5’4, 141lb aiming to be 120-125 wherever my body is happiest). The last push of weight loss is AWFUL so I’m calorie cycling rn. My dad keeps buying doughnuts and muffins and it’s very hard to resist, but since I’ve realized you can preserve doughnuts but freezing them they’re way less tempting to eat right away. I’ve been calorie cycling for a couple weeks but it seems I’m plateauing at 1400-1415 average weeks so I might drop to 1300 with calorie cycling next week.

  • You dont get seriously strict calorie counting i cant stick to anything i am not obsessed with and make consequenses for budging even a little so i even count the so called 0 calorie sweetners which are 3 to 4 calories each. And my coffee and tea which is 2 calories a cup if you are like me i drink 5 cups of coffee 20 calories and 3 pks of sweener with each cup of coffee which is 15 calories that adds up to 35 empty calories

I reacted to Macro Mikes PB powder too and I found out it was because of the pea protein which my gut doesn’t like (I have IBS too and although pea protein is low FODMAP it really doesn’t agree with my gut). However, I just saw Macro Mike have released an Almond PB powder and it doesn’t have the pea protein! So I’ve bought some to try will let you know how it goes!

  • It angers me that in every video you have to explain yourself for having 1200 calories and that there are STILL people coming for you. Im currently cutting on 1800 and find it super interesting how different we all are in terms of calorie requirements ����

  • Thanks, Paul! As a 42 year old woman I have been having success the past 2 weeks on a 1200 cal-per-day diet. Lots of greens, lean proteins, ground flax, sardines, some beets and yams, a little fruit…. I haven’t been hungry. Seeing results already. Ice cream cravings are gone. I think the ice cream Cravings were caused by too few carbohydrates over the winter.
    The keto diet over the winter caused me to lose my cycle for 6 months. Adding back fruit and some healthy carbohydrates helped me to regain my cycle a couple weeks ago. It’s odd that no one talks about how low carbohydrate intake can negatively affect women’s female hormone production.

  • I do 1200-1300 all the time when I need to cut weight. Maintenance is 1500-1600 cals and I feel great! I appreciate when women are honest about what they eat instead of acting like they can eat much more food than they really are.

  • I’m currently also 5f 11′ stared out at 98 kg im now 10kg down to 88kg I did 2000 Calories and burn 1000 calories a day some days 500 calories if I’m tired plus some resistance training every other day going for another 10kg but wondering if it might be a good idea at this point to do a month or so at this weight and try to figure out my maintenance calorie level at this point end goal is 78kg also found lowering calories on the days I don’t burn 1000 calories keeps me on track or if I know I’m going out to a social event I like to do a super long walk in the morning to cover the extra I’m going to indulge in plus fasting 10am to 6pm only water in between with some creatine just before I break my fast

  • I was a little over 300lbs as well over 2 years ago. 1200 calories can be done, but that’s tough to stick to. I started CrossFit and dropped my calories to 2300 at first, then after two weeks dropped to 2200, then 2100, and eventually got down to 1850. This was realistic to me, and I was able to stick with it. I lost 110lbs within 12/15 months. I know it seems like a long time, but like Paul says, “ look at the big picture. “ The weight has stayed off, and it became my lifestyle, not a diet. Good luck, but it will all be worth it!

  • I did a year on 1200 calories and I hate those pictures used, nobody ends up like that and it’s unrealistic and upsetting at the end as you end up with lose skin, I wish people would be honest with pictures

    Proteins rounded and really nonome should give a damn about wether there is more carbs or fat it doesn’t matter.
    That is just one day as example but ever single meal tasted so much better than anything in this video looked! Some days I even get some more proteins in. There is no reasoning in eating a boring dry diet

  • Paul you are 100% right. I am doing 1200 -1600 calories with P90X. And intermittent fasting. I do 1 meal a day and I’ve lost 40 pounds since March 1st. High protein and lots of vegetables. Also no sugar and low carbs. No rice, bread, pasta etc

  • I have been drinking green tea too, but I use tazo Zen flavor. It has a hint of mint. I put six bags into a large mason jar, boil water, let it sit for a minute or two, then pour the hot water over the tea bags. Let them sit for a while, remove the tea bags, add four stevia packets while still warm, it dissolves better), and then dilute in a 64 ounce container, and drink that. The tazo tea is the most refreshing tasting (imo). I cannot find the siete wraps anywhere near me:(.

  • Eat low calorie dense foods. Some of these foods you can eat pounds of and not intake a lot of calories. Chicken breast and spinach. You can eat a lot of that and not get many calories. For something sweet you can eat watermelon. You can eat like half a watermelon and not get many calories and you’ll be super full.

  • You will look like a sloath from rapid fat loss your skin cannot adapt. Take it easy, but consistently, lifestyle habit changes included.

  • I just started doing one week deficit, one week maintenance, and I was wondering how aggressive you think the deficit can be during the deficit weeks so that my metabolism doesnt slow down. I have a pretty fast metabolism and I would like to keep it that way. My maintenance calories I think are about 2,700. Will doing 1,200 for just a week slow down my metabolism? I could also play with the amount of days, like 5 days deficit instead of 7, or even less days, and still do maintenance for 7 days. I am 5’10, 170 pounds, yes, not that big, I am pretty lean already though so I would just do that for a week and probably see my abs already. I know I could take it slower, but I am still curious if its possible going aggressive for a week without slowing down my metabolism, or at least not too much. I definitely do plan to continue building muscle, I just would like to look a little more defined while doing it.

  • Watching this because monday I’m starting a 5 week mini cut on 1350. I’m about 120lbs, 5’0. I usually cut on 1500-1600 for longer cuts but I want to see what I can get done in a shorter time and then get back up to above 2000 calories for maintanence.   • It’s also a good idea to try to figure out what’s the most amount of calories you can eat that will allow you to lose weight with the least amount of exercise. It’s a better starting point to know you can lose 2 pounds at 2000 calories without having to workout much and working your way down from there.

  • 1200 calories is perfectly fine for someone that’s 300lbs due to fat availability however as the weight comes off the calories should increase. When he’s almost at his goal and only has the last 10 to 20lbs to lose is when his deficit should be ever so small and he should be eating closer to maintenance 2300 to 2500 calories. At this stage more exercise in the form of walking should be used to create any extra deficit required

  • This topic is perfect!! I’m doing a 1250cal diet……I’m 5.3 currently 125pounds and 43. Got sick during lockdown due to stress of work and had the worst crohns flare up….I spent 4 weeks in bed and ate les than 600 most of those days……I was soo scared that I’d lose all of my muscle, as all I could eat was vege soup (homemade) no meat as it seemed to make things worse…..I switched to lentils, chickpeas, quinoa most days…….I’m loads better now and eating nutritious dense low cal diet….started including weight training every second day (I would usually do a boxing class) I can see my muscles coming through again and my strength has improved……..just wondering if I should increase my calories to 1500 as this apparently is my maintenance ������ I’m still full eat day on 1250 cals and my gut is not sore or constantly trying to digest food…….I was going to go to a nutritionist but I seem to be ok…..I’ve basically binged watch your videos and have implemented ALOT of your tips…..so far soo good. I’ve loss a total of 10 lbs but the real victory is in the way I look at food. I no longer restrict what I eat instead I adjusted my calories and macros for the whole week.

  • I am a 21 year old male. About 168 cms in height and 80 kgs at about 40 percent body fat. I started at 94 kgs last September. I lost most of it last year. I havent made much progress this year at all. I do feel much more fit than when I started. But I just cant push the 78 kgs barrier. I gained 2 kgs in the last few months because covid. In the beginning I did intermittent fasting, cardio and no weight training. I started lifting some weights and have seen some improvement in strength, but no gains as such.   • Yes, I too am guilty of jumping through diet plan to others as well, I do believe that I must have tested every weight-loss method that was available, but eventually not one of them made it easier for me to lose and keep the weight off. I ended up trying for the very last time using the Custokebon Secrets mainly because my work buddy who told me incredible things about it and so far to date I’ve effectively dropped 17 pounds in 3 weeks!

  • See.. I eat 1200-1300 calories for my cutting right now. But I am only 5′. I eat a good amount of protein (130 a day). About 113 carbs and the rest fat. And I’m not like hungry. I mean I do want chocolate sometimes but I have a super big sweet tooth. But this is only until I get where I want to be. Lost 20lbs since April.

She calls us haters but we aren’t. We just see what she doesn’t see (yet I hope) I do understand why she can only lose at 1,200. She’s tanked her metabolism chasing the weight loss. Once her body adjusts to eating 1,200 she’ll again stop losing weight and will have to drop it. It’s what she’s has to do thus far. That’s not sustainable. Solution? Up. The. Cals. High protein. Moderate carb. Exercise 3-5 times a week. Give the body tile to adjust to a higher calorie intake. You won’t just gain weight doing this as long as you’re regularly active. Last year I went on a 30lb weight loss journey. I too tanked my metabolism. Ate at 12-1300 and I didn’t lose weight. I upped my cals to 1800-2000 weighing and measuring everything while doing cardio and weight training & I dropped the 30lbs easy. And now I can eat. Have energy because I eat and have maintained the loss to the pound for 6 months now. I see how Sophie thinks these people are haters but again, we aren’t. We just see what she’s not seeing. Hopefully she’s able to watch videos from people like Natasha Oceane who promote eating while losing. All the best of luck Sophie! Look at a whole foods plant based diet and read The Starch Solution as you will see that you won’t have to count anything and won’t go hungry. Check out High Carb Hannah, Plantiful Kiki and Chelsea Mae as they eat until they are full. Thanks lovely and great to see you using lots of plant foods but no need to include any carcinogenic animal products x

  • Why are you putting your beautiful strong body in so much danger and under so much stress. Soph this cannot be a sustainable way of living! I have been there I have been in the low cals and I was so tired and grumpy and my lifts suffeeeered. This is also irresponsible to promote to young women and people in general.   • 1200 cals is surely less than your BMR, unless you literally do nothing all day (which you don’t cos you workout) I’m confused why you’re eating at 1200. Your metabolism must be messed up to only be able to lose fat at that calorie level.

  • you can’t even eat enough protein for your weight if you eat around 1200 kcal. IT IS NOT GOOD. i tried reverse dieting. I was eating around 3000 kcal and then i did cut. I am losing weight on 1700 kcal and feeling satisfied.

  • I do 1200-1300 all the time when I need to cut weight. Maintenance is 1500-1600 cals and I feel great! I appreciate when women are honest about what they eat instead of acting like they can eat much more food than they really are.

  • I’m at 1400, pretty petite as well (21 yo, 5’4, 141lb aiming to be 120-125 wherever my body is happiest). The last push of weight loss is AWFUL so I’m calorie cycling rn. My dad keeps buying doughnuts and muffins and it’s very hard to resist, but since I’ve realized you can preserve doughnuts but freezing them they’re way less tempting to eat right away. I’ve been calorie cycling for a couple weeks but it seems I’m plateauing at 1400-1415 average weeks so I might drop to 1300 with calorie cycling next week.

  • 1200 calories seems REALLY low. My BMR alone is around 1400, so that’s what I need to just function everyday. Take into account another 500 burned calories for daily movement and not including exercise you’re at an extreme deficit.

  • I found eating on a “low calorie” diet,like around 1200 worked for me,but i had got lazy. I ate whatever i wanted BUT didnt go over that amount,like 9 out of 10 times i would always oddly be under.

  • I have been drinking green tea too, but I use tazo Zen flavor. It has a hint of mint. I put six bags into a large mason jar, boil water, let it sit for a minute or two, then pour the hot water over the tea bags. Let them sit for a while, remove the tea bags, add four stevia packets while still warm, it dissolves better), and then dilute in a 64 ounce container, and drink that. The tazo tea is the most refreshing tasting (imo). I cannot find the siete wraps anywhere near me:(.

  • You dont get seriously strict calorie counting i cant stick to anything i am not obsessed with and make consequenses for budging even a little so i even count the so called 0 calorie sweetners which are 3 to 4 calories each. And my coffee and tea which is 2 calories a cup if you are like me i drink 5 cups of coffee 20 calories and 3 pks of sweener with each cup of coffee which is 15 calories that adds up to 35 empty calories

I reacted to Macro Mikes PB powder too and I found out it was because of the pea protein which my gut doesn’t like (I have IBS too and although pea protein is low FODMAP it really doesn’t agree with my gut). However, I just saw Macro Mike have released an Almond PB powder and it doesn’t have the pea protein! So I’ve bought some to try will let you know how it goes!

  • Great vid and thanks for sharing. I brew a pitcher of green tea every morning and sip on it throughout the day. I find the home brewed tea tastes better than does the store bought tea, and well, it’s a fraction of the cost. But hey, if cost is no object then go for the store bought stuff.

  • I admire your self discipline. I don’t count calories but I’m active all day and eat fairly well so I’m able to keep the pounds off.

  • This is how I started out, most recently. 205+, originally around a 22-2600 cal diet is as far back as my tracking went. I then rode 40 miles a day inside on a bike, no increase to food. So, 12-1400 cal from that, roughly 12-1400 calculated net per day. Also, wasn’t doing any strength training. I ended up plateauing around a month ago at around 185, and, also feeling like complete garbage. I got a gym membership, Over a couple of weeks I weaned out the cycling until I was doing none, and sitting around a 1800cal diet, and then moved on getting leaner. I’m still fat, but 179lbs, and currently 1800cal intake w/ 10 miles of biking 6 days a week for a “cut”. In the right lighting, I’m starting to visibly see outlines of the middle 2 abs, and the tops of the bottom row. Also, definition, and veins occasionally in my shoulders/neck/collarbone and chest when I’m posing that I’ve never seen before in my life. And above the groin, and in my legs. I still have a pudgy pie and a lot of fat to lose imo. Gonna keep up with this small deficit cut till I plateau, maybe go 1 step further then reverse back up n rinse and repeat.

  • Was watching a Sylvester Stallone interview video awhile back. He said he often lives on 1100 calories a day. But, he said on one weekend day he will pig out and eat like 5000 calories but it doesn’t affect him because he goes right back to low cal.

  • I know you’re just trying to show healthy low cal recipes but your title is very misleading, 1200 cals is nowhere near to how much one should eat every day in order to function and be health, and that’s without taking working out and moving into account. I’ve been there, I’ve made this kind of mistake, and I can say that eating too little calories can really fuck up your metabolism. No matter your bodyweight or height, I don’t think 1200 cals is enough for any adult. It might work on short term, but it’s not the best option on the long run. Just saying xx

  • I have been using MyFitnessPal since Nov.2 and I have lost 19 lbs. Like you, I relax a little on the weekends but the app keeps me in check and keeps me from overeating. Yes, I would love to see more 300-400 calorie salads and entrees.

  • Awesome video once again Paul! I personally like to eat big Salads with a bit of my favorite cheese (cottage cheese or feta) and also add some boneless skinless chicken and maybe a whey protein shake with it. It seems to help me with having a very full belly and not being hungry:)

  • Also once you start calorie counting you’ll know your eating habits and you will eat like that every time. as for the tea just be careful with the amount of consumption, yes it’s good because of the benefits it has but it cannot replace water.

  • I’m actually also using My Fitness Pal. I’ve been using it the last 21 days since I started really watching my calorie intake. It really helps me stay on track and makes me aware of what I’m eating. And it’s not super time consuming which I love.

    6.00 am wakeup
    6.15 am 200 ml of boiled cumin water
    7.00 am green tea
    9.00 am Indian breakfast idly/upma/dosa/poha/vada/puri / waffles with blueberry jam
    11.00 am lemon water
    1.00 pm 1 chapati with any Indian veg or non-veg curry
    3.00 pm 1 medium glass of buttermilk/ 5 tablespoon curd (since my body is heat body )
    5.00 pm any kind of fruit/ nuts/ greentea/ lemon water
    8.00 pm Suffola masala oats 1 small cup/ 1 chapati
    10.00 pm sleep

    My daily Selfcare:
    8 hours sleep
    3liter of water
    Fitness chloe tings programe
    Meditation for 5 minutes
    no sugar
    no junk food/street food

    Note: If I get a little bit starving in between evening snack and my dinner I mostly eat a small or medium banana
    If you ask why banana? Banana will reduce our food starving and gives instant energy to our body.

  • Very informative video.It shows u r a certified dietician not a laymen who uploads whatever he/she knows.This is damn true that u don’t hav to remove roti /rice from ur diet to reduce weight u just have to eat everything but in moderation.Moderation is the key and workout is also imp.I have lost 12kgs in 4 months by eating everything(clean eating) with cheating too and daily workout at home in this lockdown ����
