While the importance of eating before a workout may vary based on the situation, most scientists agree that it’s beneficial to eat after exercise. Research shows that. It’s an ongoing debate whether or not to eat before a workout.

Some individuals need time to have a yogurt and a banana, while others roll out of bed and head out the door on an empty stomach. Exercise enthusiasts often wonder whether it’s better to eat or fast before a workout. A new study is the first of its kind to show the effects of eating versus fasting on gene expression in. The best way to fuel a workout is with a proteinand carb-rich meal that you eat about three to four hours before a workout, according to Troup. If it’s.

“If you are eating something before a workout, I recommend eating 30 minutes to two hours ahead,” Taub-Dix says. Fatigue and Low Energy Most people can eat light snacks one to two hours before exercise and meals or heavy snacks three to four hours before exercise. If you do not eat for several hours before exercise, you will be more likely to feel fatigued during your workout. Spano says foods high in fiber or that contain ingredients such as sugar alcohols, inulin, and chicory root, can cause gas and bloating.

BOTTOM. What not to eat before a workout. Let’s address why pre-workout food matters so much. Exercise requires a large volume of blood to be pumped to your working muscles.

That means that the blood flow to your stomachs is reduced during exercise, especially during intense exercise like 8fit HIIT workouts. Likewise, your stomach demands energy to. At the very least, you should have a snack within an hour before your workout. But in terms of larger meals, that largely depends on what kind of workout you’ll be doing. For long bouts of.

Most people don’t need to eat before working out if they exercise early in the morning. If you are up and at ’em sometime between 5am and 7am, you probably don’t need to eat before your workout.

You want carbohydrates to provide the majority of the fuel for your workouts, so if you’re someone who works out later in the day, just make sure that lunch contained some sort of healthy carbs. and I definitely try to eat as soon after a workout as possible—within 30 minutes.

A small snack (25 to 35 grams of carbohydrate, or about 1 ounce) in the hour before a 60-minute workout staves off hunger and keeps you alert and focused, while the carbohydrate you have stored in your muscles takes care of the actual fuel for training.

  • As always I hope all of you enjoy the video. I see a lot of questions about not eating anything before a workout and training in a fasted state. While yes this is fine, you will want to eat some kind of fast digesting source of protein soon after your workout to drive up protein synthesis and to see the best results for your muscles. I go over the topic of fasted training in depth throughout the video. Just watch the video and pay attention. Also, the 15 science-backed sources used for this video are all listed in the description if you’d like to read the studies for yourself. Thanks for tuning in.

  • Your title and your explanation didnt match so you left many of us confused, just say what to eat before and after workout, not what other people think

  • I unsubscribed mate, becz your talks are too tricky plus I feel like you make video in a manner which only professionals understand well. Make your content a bit simple so that people can understand.

  • People could be healthy if they knew how but it’s up to you to figure it out you have a phone with all worldly knowledge it isn’t hard to be fit but 90% of people who try are doing it wrong, I disagree with the video in that it isn’t one diet fits all it depends on your body’s needs and what you are putting it through some people need fiber and protein with lower carbs for strength training and losing weight just figure out what food is and learn what the body needs

  • Generally it was told that before 2 hours of gym workout we have to eat protein food or protine milk shake. But those who start the workout at 6 in the morning what they have to eat or drink please reply

  • Of course there are some studies that indicate that preand during-workout carbs may blunt the release of interleukin-6, an important protein that provides the stimulus for hypertrophy. Which means if you’re one of the 5% of the population that already has reduced IL-6 function, you might be KILLING YOUR GAINS!!!!!!!!

  • I’ve list 95 lbs 257 162. I still have a belly, but other than that I’m pretty lean. Should I focus on loosing the belly fat? Or should I start putting on muscle and hope it goes away as I get stronger?

  • It’s not complicated guys, I am a sports nutritionist and I will give you straightforward pieces of advice:

-Never have carb-rich meals before your workout (1 to 30 min prior to the workout) you will suffer from reactive hypoglycemia
-Load carbs during the day before your workout with slow digesting sources such as oats, rhye, barley…
-Amino acids pre and during workouts don’t have any effect, and I mean BCAAs.
-You can have a protein shake around an hour before your workout so that your digestive system wouldn’t be sucking up all the blood from your system during your workout.
-Post-workout shakes are great! Add to that some white rice or potatoes (cold potatoes are the best since they are resistant starches) or a banana (just had one myself) to replenish your glycogen, otherwise you’d be relying on your muscles for energy. We don’t want that!

This guy is great, the video is just a bit overloaded. If you have any questions, I will be glad to assist.

  • spot on!! I went into anaphylaxis about 2miles into an 8mile run-it was a life changing event that medical professionals were positively clueless about when it came to ‘why’ it happened&now I know for certain!! I had eaten less than an hour into my run, having come back from LV a couple days earlier with a rare hangover(I rarely drink)and was still dehydrated-i also ate a few nuts which I have a mild allergy to but never are expressed remarkably besides mildly itchy palette (roof of mouth) these factors:eating less than an hour prior, dehydration, mild nut allergy, and exercise threw me into anaphylaxis, and it went from 0-1,000 real quick which,I almost died and swelled up crazy!! Even to this day on my runs I avoid nuts b4 I eat,but still EAT and seem to always have such hell to pay in my abdomen and am often crippled for hours afterward-i will try to avoid food at least an hour before and just have watered down Gatorade prior I hope it works for me,your information was an ‘a ha’ moment! thank you so much✌

  • What about a pre workout lunch/ meal for a vegan or vegetarian? anyone know what to eat and how long before the workout or the cardio session?

  • Actually it´s pretty simple…
    Fat loss:
    Pre-Workout: nothing
    After Workout: lots of proteine
    Muscle Gain:
    Pre-Workout: carbs
    after Workout: lots of proteine

  • Do you always have a protein shake or drink after every workout no matter the intensity? I just don’t know if I should have it after I work out?

  • Hello there! Thanks for this useful video. By the way, I hear many people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets (search on google), but I’m not sure if it’s good. Have you thought about Custokebon Secrets? I have heard many great things about it and my sister lost a ton of weight with it, but she refuses to tell me:(

  • So you eat high fat high protein 20-30 minutes after your workout no carbs and then 2 hours after that high fat low carb when do you eat your carbs

  • What to eat is still not clear. He showed some bananas before the work out,:-) but then he said wait for 15 minutes and then dive into Protein, WTF?

  • Love this! And so grateful for your channel. Your workout videos have really helped me transform my body and mind over these past few months of quarantine. I’d love more videos dedicated to nutrition to assist in fitness-particularly weight loss/fat burn. Thanks so much for all you do!

  • Anybody tested out the Custokebon Secrets (search on google)? I’ve heard several awesome things about this popular weight loss methods.

  • Totally lost.

Here is a secret in a short way. This dude talks too much.

You need a preworkout meal 1-2hours before.

You then train hard. This then releases growth hormone and uses the amino acids in your body to build muscle while insulin is low.

Do not drink any post workout drinks straightaway.. As soon as you do the insulin will spike which will stop growth hormone working. Just eat 3 hours after.

    Thank you.

  • WHOA your mathematics addition is good!!
    I can’t even plus that fast…..
But anyway I believe in you, I’ve been doing everything that you tell me about in your video.
The ANSWER is i gain one fat muscle on my ass!!!
    How is that happened??
Maybe I ate too much protein…

  • What about a pre workout lunch/ meal for a vegan or vegetarian? anyone know what to eat and how long before the workout or the cardio session?

  • those “sports drinks” are some of the unhealthiest options, the real sports drink is multivitamins with probiotics and fruit shake no adding sugar either.

  • Can you make a video linking all your activewear? I always love the stuff you wear in your workout videos and it would be great if you could link where you get everything.

  • What exactly is Custokebon Secrets? How does this thing really work? I notice many people keep on speaking about this popular lose weight methods.

  • I just love how you see the importance of fuelling your body as you know what feels good for YOU pre workout. Instead of jumping on the intermittent fasting train, you are listening to what works for you and I couldn’t agree more. You have such a healthy, realistic approach to eating. Nice work! What a positive role model you are for other young women

  • I unsubscribed mate, becz your talks are too tricky plus I feel like you make video in a manner which only professionals understand well. Make your content a bit simple so that people can understand.

  • love the information you provide…I’m confused tho.. when mentioning “isotonic” or “hypotonic” drinks, they are pictured in plastic bottles that no doubt sit at room temperature in a store when bought in bulk…and I just watched your segment on things to avoid for elevating estrogen in males….

  • Could you please talk about protein powders, mass gainers and the different types of supplements? on youtube or igtv it would be great

  • it’s simple if you want to gain lean muscle and target fat loss you need a health and clean habit of eating in the correct portions, eating those foods at certain times, and managing your cheat meals if you do them properly. if you do that and train hard then it’s simple.

  • Love your video! I just started working out (goal is to live a healthier lifestyle + flatter/abs stomach). Any tips you could give me? What kinds of foods should I stay away from? Thank you!!

  • I like how you just get straight into the content of the video and don’t mess around with some long-winded intro or try to insert dumb jokes in your video that are fake. I see a lot of YouTubers do that and I find it so annoying.

  • Hi, I really want to know why Am I feeling so uncomfortable with my stomach like there’s too much inside. Today was my 2nd day of abs challenge so I work out before I had lunch and then I ate and they were like 10 minutes between work out and lunch, and then i felt like food just gathered together and I’ve been like this like 4 hours, It doesn’t feel good. Was it bad to eat almost immediately?

  • The conclusions of the study “The myths surrounding pre-exercise carbohydrate feeding.” are kind of confusing: “It can be concluded that advice to avoid carbohydrate feeding in the hour before exercise is unfounded. Nevertheless athletes may develop symptoms similar to those of hypoglycaemia, even though they are rarely linked to actual low glucose concentrations.” Not sure if pre-exercise carbs are good or bad.

  • waiting for the day when youre one of the biggest fitness youtubers… just found your youtube and im obsessed with your videos girl!!!

  • I’d love to see a full week of workouts! What you do each day, how you separate the workouts, what do you do upper body, lower, etc.:)

  • i eat a light meal but rich in nutrients about 1 and a half hours before my work out. while im working out i drink water with lemon juice, chia seeds and a pinch of sugar for energy. tonight when i worled out, i lasted longer on the cardio side of things when i took with me a 24 ounce of xing natural blueberry tea…and i mean a lot longer! i generally hit cardio for 140 calories then workout then cardio again. tonight i hit 180 calories in cardio and worked out hard and ended with 200 cal cardio. and still feel great right now

  • Loved this girl!! Definitely need to make overnight oats more! Really want to film a similar video like this on my channel eventually! So helpful!:)

  • I usually have a smoothie with mixed berries, banana, and protein powder immediately after my workouts. I go to the gym in the evenings, so I have a protein-filled dinner after. Any tips for dealing with carb timing? I find myself getting really fatigued the day after sometimes, probably from not timing right/eating enough carbs. Also, thanks for starting up again!! I found you through Sanne’s channel xx

  • Overcomplicated. Too confusing.
“This study shows this is right…But another one shows the opposite!”
Barely any useful informations to begin with. Very poorly done. Waste of almost 13min,don’t do it to yourself.

  • I thought you said that fruit was turned into energy right away and was perfect pre-workout. Now you’re saying they’re hard to break down and should be consumed at least an hour before. Am I misunderstanding?

  • Wtf!!! Just say 1 hour before workout eat 30g of carbs (brown bread and a banana) 30g protein (eggs or protein shake) after training same again there simple. Have a good day people:D

  • Looking for a something that will help you to have more energy check this supplement out. http://www.sportformula.com/?rfsn=3414192.dc60db3&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=3414192.dc60db3 use my link and use my code christianherrera15 to get a 15 percent discount.

  • She gonna get somebody killed. Drink milk then go hit the gym? Nah fam. Then you didn’t say anything about water intake went straight to gatorade smh “oh it has more electrolytes” idc it has more sugar too gonna crash after that wake up with cramps.

  • I love the last sentence, like it’s obvious, but sometimes myself included waste too much time thinking about these details when the important thing is actually going to the gym:)

  • I’m surprised, Mayo Clinic. Sports drinks have so much sugar in them that they’re too much even for an Olympic athlete. May as well have a soda.

  • this is right for the most part but what? no fats? theres nothing wrong with putting peanutbutter on that sad excuse for a sandwich

  • those “sports drinks” are some of the unhealthiest options, the real sports drink is multivitamins with probiotics and fruit shake no adding sugar either.

  • It’s good to eat before working out it builds more muscle and gives you more Energy just make sure to drink water with it hope that helps

  • We use vanilla and chocolate complete shakes, they kick ass.
Wholefood meal replacement, micro n macro nutrients.
Bear Grylls n Usain Bolt use the products too. Just for FYI

  • In few words:
    we are all different
if you want to eat then workout, wait a bit so you don’t get nauseas.
If you work out then eat that’s fine too.
Just keep up a healthy diet that is balanced and avoid all kinds of fast food, sugar, soda and saturated fats.
Drink lots of water and be happy

  • i didnt get if we should eat before6 or after? and how much space should we have between eating and exercise? can i drink some water before exercise and eat food after that for morning and for an exercise about an hour long?

  • So basically, don’t eat, right?
I know fasting work outs work for many people. But I seem to have problems with it because when I do this I am super shaky afterward and absolutely ravenous. I’m guessing this is a blood sugar issue.

So if someone has this issue, what do you suggest then? Maybe some protein powder in some almond milk?

  • I can’t believe I just watched a video that I kind of already knew the answer to.
Basically, eating before helps with longer duration, which makes sense cuz your body can only take so much of those stored fatty acids before running into overdrive.

  • Your body uses the stored energy even if you eat before exercise. It takes a couple of hours for your body to digest and process what you have put into it. So therefore it has no effect on anything. Eat or not, there is no difference.

But if you don’t eat for a long duration and exercise, then it could have negative side effects on your body.

I would recommend eating before or right after an exercise. Prolonged fasting & exercise together can be damaging to your health.

    Sincerely,
    An internet doctor

  • . The question in the senior Physician’s exam was how come Carbs induce attacks of Angina & heart attacks? Because so much Insulin is required to deal with Carbs & Proteins, that there is a Myocardial Steal of blood from the Heart & Muscles to the digestive tract. That is why you must train Fasted. You also Burn more Fat as there’s no Insulin Spike to deal with. Less Insulin, Higher Glucagon, more Fat Burn.

  • I use fat as a source of energy… I run 10k on a fasted state after eating fat and low carbs meals! My performance has increased since I stopped stuffing carbs… fat is a better source of energy and much more stable…

  • YOU CAN EAT AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE AS LONG AS YOUR DOING ENOUGH EXERCISE TO FEED YOUR MUSCLES YOULL GET BIGGER BUT IF YOUR EATING HEAPS AND NOT DOING ANY EXERCISES YOUR BODY WILL STORE THE FOOD IN FAT CELLS.
ALL FOODS ARE FUEL FOR YOUR BODY IT EITHER USES IT OR STORES IT DEPENDING ON HOW ACTIVE YOU ARE..

  • Slighty confused. I mean who would eat a proper meal and go straight to the gym anyway. Not a clear cut video with too much info in between even though I like the guy

  • a 1/2 of a glass of juice an hour or so before a long workout is all you need. I learned what works and what doesnt from long tennis matches. If i ate a bagel or something like that prior, forget about it, the nausea sets in. You can get by for a 45 minute workout with just water

  • In one of your other videos you explain that fruit should be eaten before workout and in this video you say avoid fruit before workout. So….what is correct? Thank you

  • So basically, don’t eat, right?

  • Wow, he nailed it! Thank you so much, Thomas! This is something I have struggled with and which is why I’m careful about what I consume when I am going to work out, especially if I am doing a high intensity workout. It’s no fun when you feel your body trying to digest the food during a work out. Working out in a too long fasted state does not work for me either-I will pass out. Its all about balance and food timing.

  • Y’know, I actually used to use bad food in the opposite way. As in, I would eat it to ensure that I go and do that workout that I didn’t really want to do. It was like “I spent the money, I ate the food, I got the rip off priced coffee with it for a fat burning effect on purpose, I only got the coffee with it because I intended to train after I eat this, I’m not wasting that damn money. I’m not letting it make me fatter, I’m going to train” and I’d usually wait about 1 hour after I started drinking the coffee until I train. So I’d start maybe 50 60 minutes after finishing the coffee and train for at least an hour, figuring that by now I must be burning some amount of fat. Whether it was weights or running on the treadmill or bike. I have no idea if I was or not, but at the very least I was ensuring I made strength gains or beat my PR for a specific run and adding some amount of calories burned through hard intense work for the day.

  • Hi Thomas its me again? I noticed that you don’t have any women in your videos? Does this video here, is it only geared towards men or are there different allowances for women concerning what you’re talking about pre meals, please elaborate on that too. If this does apply to women also, it really would be nice if you Threw some women in your vids that way when we see your video we don’t think it’s only towards men, I’m just saying…. so that w women don’t think it’s just for men

  • Fructose is the Worst Sugar on this Earth. it’s even in Sweet potatoes(really Bad for you). There’s no insulin response to Fructose, hence the body can’t use it. In fact, only the Liver can deal with it & turn most of it to fat & the Worst Kind of fat.

On top of that you also take your time to answer questions in the comment section, big kudos from germany!

  • So I basically just drank a couple of glasses of water last night before I started a light workout. Everything was fine until I woke up this morning with a bad case of stomach cramps. Did I experience anaphylaxis?

  • Hi Sir i am from india and i love your videos its very informative. I wanted to know is sweet potatoes and boiled egg whites good 45 mins prior to workout?

  • As a college distance athlete I can say most definetly eating big meals before a 21k race will KILL you however so will being totally fasted.

  • Have a 100-150 from of sweet potato put lil bit Himalayas salt and coconut oil on it best pre workout ever….have it hour before you go

  • I’m a pretty big fan of oatmeal with peanut butter and blueberry’s ore workout. It is a little heavy so I usually wait 30-45 minutes before heading to the gym.

  • I was taught. Always eat after a workout.
    NEVER BEFORE.
ALWAYS DID MY HARDEST WORKOUTS IN THE MORNING. NOTHING TO EAT UNTILL NOON!
    The days of rest.
Take a leisurely walk before breakfast.
WORKED GREAT FOR ME AND MY STUDENTS!
Also my best performance and gains. Were on an animal protein free diet.!!!

  • I have never been able to finish a workout when I ate before hand because I felt so sick. I stopped eating first thing and just wake up and work out and I’ve never felt better, thank you for explaining why this happens. I’ve never understood why I can’t eat before despite everyone saying I need to eat preworkout.

  • totally opposite what dr. berg said. Dr. Berg said eat protein first, then carbs. Who should I listen to? They both make sense to me.

  • I thought you said that fruit was turned into energy right away and was perfect pre-workout. Now you’re saying they’re hard to break down and should be consumed at least an hour before. Am I misunderstanding?

  • Overcomplicated. Too confusing.
“This study shows this is right…But another one shows the opposite!”
Barely any useful informations to begin with. Very poorly done. Waste of almost 13min,don’t do it to yourself.

  • In one of your other videos you explain that fruit should be eaten before workout and in this video you say avoid fruit before workout. So….what is correct? Thank you

  • I eat one or two serving of fruit, 1/2 a piece of Ezekiel bread with nut butter and honey, and coffee with almond creamer an hour before I workout. Then I drink 1/2-1 liter of organic coconut water during workout. I eat within an hour after working out.

  • Listen to this if you’re not average. I’m a professional mover. Moving upright pianos grand pianos anything that is humanly heavy. In and out of trailers up and down five flights of steps and if you eat before you do this work you can work all day. Not for weak men

  • discovering your youtube channel while I’m eating my bowl of oats and wondering if it’s a good idea to eat that before my workout haha thank you for confirming, already following you on your instagram but good to have longer videos to follow you on too

  • omg stay away from isotonic drinks guys, or do some research. They also contain bromine which will deplete you iodine. Also theyr stacked with sugars so WTF, unexpected in this channel

  • Im 63, a vegan, and training with HITT with kettle bells 5 days a week, I watch your videos but I feel overwhelmed with all of the information that you provide. my goal is intermittent fasting, and high protein vegan meal. what can your program assist me with, which program should I buy?

  • I have two slices of whole wheat toast with a little apple butter about half hour before. Been doing it since high school, always feels great

  • I work out in the evening after I eat dinner. I kinda struggle on eating something after because it’s so late in the day and I’m not usually hungry. I guess a protein shake is probably best?

  • Each activity is based on the individual
If you have a diabetic, fasting before a workout may not be the best option but there are always exceptions to the rule.
But just like the physical aspect, mental health takes training especially when it comes to diet and workout

  • Actually it´s pretty simple…
    Fat loss:
    Pre-Workout: nothing
    After Workout: lots of proteine
    Muscle Gain:
    Pre-Workout: carbs
    after Workout: lots of proteine

  • Guys. lost a lot of fat does not need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I will give you some tips right now. Get a popular fat burn secrets called Custokebon Secrets (google it). Thanks to it I have lost a ton of weight. I probably should not even be speaking about it cause I do not want a bunch of other guys out there running exactly the same game but whatever. I’m just in a excellent mood right now and so I will share the wealth lol.

  • I take a smoothie of 1 glass milk + 2 apples( unpeeled ) + 2 Bananas + 50gm dry herbs, 2 hrs before gym. Tastes worse than horseshit but it does the trick.

  • I’m quite confused….haven’t you said previously that fruits help to give PRE-WORKOUT energy because it fills up the liver glycogen?

  • The post workout meal looks so good. For some reason though, everytime i crave it, i’ll make it, but i’ll get really nasuseated right after the first slice and can never finish it. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just weird? lol

  • Wtf!!! Just say 1 hour before workout eat 30g of carbs (brown bread and a banana) 30g protein (eggs or protein shake) after training same again there simple. Have a good day people:D

  • Hey Thomas many thanks for the information and a very good and convincing explanation. I’m a fan from far away from Istanbul/Turkey. Yes there are people like me watching you from Turkey☺️ I hope you read this comment

  • 12:54 To save you 13 minutes and sum things up, eat a well balanced diet high in whole, fresh foods. Make sure you have some food in you for fuel before workouts. Replenish nutrients AFTER your workout and make sure it includes some protein! Simple concepts taken way way too far

  • Why is it so hard being human?? Other animals don’t have even give a moment’s thought about how to get energy, what to eat, etc.
Their bodies know exactly what to do.

  • is it okay to have a sugar free beverage such as Powerade zero. Im concerned that the body may have a hard time digesting sugar alcohols

  • As expert, I believe Custokebon Secrets is good way to lost a ton of weight. Why not give it a chance? perhaps it is going to work for you too.

  • In an earlier video he said it was good to eat fruit right before you workout in order to prevent muscle loss. May of the same year actually.

  • Pre workout eat rice and chicken or rice and fish. Post some simple sugars and rice and chicken.
This is probably the best pre and post meals everything else

  • I’ve list 95 lbs 257 162. I still have a belly, but other than that I’m pretty lean. Should I focus on loosing the belly fat? Or should I start putting on muscle and hope it goes away as I get stronger?

  • She gonna get somebody killed. Drink milk then go hit the gym? Nah fam. Then you didn’t say anything about water intake went straight to gatorade smh “oh it has more electrolytes” idc it has more sugar too gonna crash after that wake up with cramps.

  • Do you recommend to eat before workout? Or eating protein after workout? What about if im fasting, working out and then fasting and eat after 3 hrs?

  • Wake up EARLY, Drink a good whey shake 1 hr b4 training then 30 mins B4 drink pre workout
Go to gym and Train hard! Post workout: creatine then 30-60 mins eat HIGH PROTEIN & some carbs and fat for breakfast. 2-3 then have a whey shake. 2-3 hours lunch, 2-3 hours a snack focused on protein and little carbs. 2-3 hours dinner. 1-2 hours after dinner…casein shake b4 bed. Sleep and repeat.

  • Very useful tips… 2hrs before my workout, had my carbs first and then 30min later protein. Don’t forget to drink plenty of room temperature water.

  • What type of sugar we should use for hour isotonic beverage? Is sugar table OK? I know that part of it fructose and hard for digestion, but does any pure glucose beverage exist?

  • No don’t eat oats before workout. It blouts you up. Personally for me I don’t like to eat oats cuz it doesn’t digest soon. Unless like whey protein or egg white.

  • That’s why I perform better when I’m fasting.. Just like a computer, too many processes and the computer’s performance slows down. Although I’ve been trying to understand nutrition for about 3 years, I have overlooked this concept for too long!

  • Hey Thomas. I see some videos where you say you are fasting before and after your workout and eating in the evening. Then on other videos you are recommending eating fruit before the workout. I’m intermittent fasting and skipping breakfast while working out in the morning. My trainer wants me to eat carbs before and after my workout. I’m confused. Please can anyone shed some light here?

  • Failure for years and years you are my eye opener mate that is superb….wow…hope this will bring successsssss this time its all about howwhat-when do you eat your meal that matters

  • Good video, but I would add some cartoons or at least a white board and marker because you were flying through all of the molecular jargon.

  • I don’t see why people criticize Mike Chang and Six Pack Shortcuts. I can understand the criticism for the “Afterburn Effect” and stuffing your face with whatever, but besides that, non of the information we get from these people on this channel is biased.Much respect, keep doing what you guys are doing and bring back Mike!

  • Were talking about pre workout food and…. BOOM! quick couple of pressups on a bridge.. thats insane man, you took it to a whole new level! #Savage

  • So you eat carbs before a workout to get energy and after the workout you eat protein for example a proteinbar, vegatables etc? for the best results?

  • I just worked out rlly hard and my mom ate Alfredo and she makes it rlly fat will that effect me help meee I don’t wanna work out for nothing I’m already skinny but still I’m trying to maintain weight and I’m not expert and idk what to do I need help tonight please!

  • I’m confused how does separating carbs and proteins by 15 mins make a difference. Doesn’t food sit in your stomach for about four hours? So isn’t all of it going there and mixing and then all is released to the small intestine?

  • Why do his biceps looks so fake? If they are shaped like that in rest it usually means the use of some aggressive steroids. Now, I am not saying he’s on roids, but it does look really off somehow.

  • Anyone know what is Custokebon Secrets about? I hear many individuals lost a lot of weight with Custokebon Secrets (search on google).

  • Hey Thomas many thanks for the information and a very good and convincing explanation. I’m a fan from far away from Istanbul/Turkey. Yes there are people like me watching you from Turkey☺️ I hope you read this comment

  • A huge amount of performance is just in your mind. I perform best having eaten those foods that satisfy my taste buds. Usually piping hot carbs and some sugars and fats. I like the warmth it gives my body. I’ll eat just 30-60 minutes before and I’m usually stuffed

  • Btw if you’re going to run especially outside in the heat AVOID MILK or drink it and wait a few hour if you don’t you WILL throw up xD I found out the hard way

  • I’m surprised, Mayo Clinic. Sports drinks have so much sugar in them that they’re too much even for an Olympic athlete. May as well have a soda.

  • Anyone know what is Custokebon Secrets about? I hear many individuals lost a lot of weight with Custokebon Secrets (search on google).

  • I use fat as a source of energy… I run 10k on a fasted state after eating fat and low carbs meals! My performance has increased since I stopped stuffing carbs… fat is a better source of energy and much more stable…

  • It’s good to eat before working out it builds more muscle and gives you more Energy just make sure to drink water with it hope that helps

  • As expert, I believe Custokebon Secrets is good way to lost a ton of weight. Why not give it a chance? perhaps it is going to work for you too.

  • God bless all your souls for marvellous eternal life! there will never be a end! set for eternal life! may all your families have a eternal God loving relationship! Amen <3:)

  • i didnt get if we should eat before6 or after? and how much space should we have between eating and exercise? can i drink some water before exercise and eat food after that for morning and for an exercise about an hour long?

  • I love the last sentence, like it’s obvious, but sometimes myself included waste too much time thinking about these details when the important thing is actually going to the gym:)

  • I can’t believe I just watched a video that I kind of already knew the answer to.
Basically, eating before helps with longer duration, which makes sense cuz your body can only take so much of those stored fatty acids before running into overdrive.

  • Hi there. It´s actually a myth the “need of having protein 30 minutes after working out” but I liked your vlog and the way you nourish yourself. Happy to follow you:) and greetings from Spain.

  • Are people really this stupid that they benefit from these vids?
Learn to listen to your body and follow what it needs. Youll find you go deep spiritual too

  • great content as always. thank you for providing us with such sophisticated knowledge while not charging us.

1.Have you thought about creating your brand regarding food snacks, like your ketosis high fatty snacks or your i f drinks etc.?
2.I haven’t found a video on the topic of exercising while fastened I suppose it’s more complicated than to put in in a yes no answer. but I would definitely loke to watch your opinion on that.

Thanks again Thomas. if you ever decide to come over to Germany, hit me up. I would book you and arrange a whole marketing tour for your ideas and products.

  • I would always eat huge meals right before I go do insane cardio. I actually broke a lot of my school records. I just did better on a full stomach lol

  • I take a smoothie of 1 glass milk + 2 apples( unpeeled ) + 2 Bananas + 50gm dry herbs, 2 hrs before gym. Tastes worse than horseshit but it does the trick.

  • We use vanilla and chocolate complete shakes, they kick ass.
Wholefood meal replacement, micro n macro nutrients.
Bear Grylls n Usain Bolt use the products too. Just for FYI

  • Are people really this stupid that they benefit from these vids?
Learn to listen to your body and follow what it needs. Youll find you go deep spiritual too

  • In an earlier video he said it was good to eat fruit right before you workout in order to prevent muscle loss. May of the same year actually.

  • ah loved this video if you were doing a more cardio-heavy workout would 30mins after eating the overnight oats still be okay?

  • Go ask any professional athlete do they play their sport on an empty stomach and they’ll laugh at you. Food is fuel that’s all it ever was, the best fat burning method is eating less calories. No diet on the face of this planet can beat simply eating LESS.

  • Generally it was told that before 2 hours of gym workout we have to eat protein food or protine milk shake. But those who start the workout at 6 in the morning what they have to eat or drink please reply

  • No don’t eat oats before workout. It blouts you up. Personally for me I don’t like to eat oats cuz it doesn’t digest soon. Unless like whey protein or egg white.

  • is it okay to have a sugar free beverage such as Powerade zero. Im concerned that the body may have a hard time digesting sugar alcohols

  • this is right for the most part but what? no fats? theres nothing wrong with putting peanutbutter on that sad excuse for a sandwich

  • I think Brock Lesnar got that Intenstine thing you were talking about in the video… He had a significant amount of his intestines removed because he either was holding his shit in too often or working out too hard while digesting food.

  • Keto solves all of these issues. Eating in a fasted state sets up your body for and extremely successful workout. Those who have tried Keto and feel that they are less explosive have not stuck with it long enough. Believe me, I am a 41 year old guy who started doing keto 3 months ago. Yes, it took a long time; much longer than YouTubers claim, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My ANAEROBIC energy and strength levels are sick. I feel better now than when I was 18. I can go 20 hours without eating and experience zero energy and power loss. Love the vids, but enough with this sugar stuff already. There is no such thing as essential carbs.

  • The amount of blood in your body is a constant so if you have to digest and workout at the same time, both your muscles and your digestive tract require more than their average amount of blood. So the function of either one will be impaired.

  • Hi Sir i am from india and i love your videos its very informative. I wanted to know is sweet potatoes and boiled egg whites good 45 mins prior to workout?

  • Layne Norton is justifying his own trash eating habits by dismissing obvious physiological truth. He claims its been debunked by one study while dismissing other’s experience from fasting as “psychological” aka placebo. This is the behavior of a narcissistic idiot. I no longer take him seriously.

  • Have a 100-150 from of sweet potato put lil bit Himalayas salt and coconut oil on it best pre workout ever….have it hour before you go

  • Btw if you’re going to run especially outside in the heat AVOID MILK or drink it and wait a few hour if you don’t you WILL throw up xD I found out the hard way

  • I’m a pretty big fan of oatmeal with peanut butter and blueberry’s ore workout. It is a little heavy so I usually wait 30-45 minutes before heading to the gym.

  • In Thomas’ more recent videos he recommends high glycemic carbs post-workout, so which one is it?? Carbs.. protein?.. Fat?? Doesn’t replenishing glycogen stores with carbs after a workout help muscle growth? Very confusing when one video contradicts another.

  • I have never been able to finish a workout when I ate before hand because I felt so sick. I stopped eating first thing and just wake up and work out and I’ve never felt better, thank you for explaining why this happens. I’ve never understood why I can’t eat before despite everyone saying I need to eat preworkout.

  • I think Brock Lesnar got that Intenstine thing you were talking about in the video… He had a significant amount of his intestines removed because he either was holding his shit in too often or working out too hard while digesting food.

  • I’m quite confused….haven’t you said previously that fruits help to give PRE-WORKOUT energy because it fills up the liver glycogen?

  • so would you recommend broccoli for post workout also for women since it lowers estrogen levels…..if not then what can we as women eat?

  • Keto solves all of these issues. Eating in a fasted state sets up your body for and extremely successful workout. Those who have tried Keto and feel that they are less explosive have not stuck with it long enough. Believe me, I am a 41 year old guy who started doing keto 3 months ago. • Yeah man this is so real cause in all reality is we are a whole shit load smarter then animals you you must add this factor in!!!

  • Why is it so hard being human?? Other animals don’t have even give a moment’s thought about how to get energy, what to eat, etc.
Their bodies know exactly what to do.

  • Lmao that guy is such a meat head. Everyone feels good after eating…. but why else do we get cramps when we work out in a fed state? I always get cramps in my abs working out in a fed state when I started exercising. its NOT optimal to workout in a fed state.

  • I think it’s personal preference and what training you are about to undertake, I personally like a light pre workout snack an hour or so before, cereal bar or half cup oats etc. I swim competitively so before that I’ll have a cereal bar but if I’m strength training I’ll have something a little more heavy like oats and peanut butter.

  • So I basically just drank a couple of glasses of water last night before I started a light workout. Everything was fine until I woke up this morning with a bad case of stomach cramps. Did I experience anaphylaxis?

  • Simple solution, eat, wait at least 90 mins (if it’s just oatmeal, a sandwich, coffee etc, maybe 2 hours if bigger) then train by which point it should have left your stomach and be in your small intestine. Enzymes breaking it down and taking the nutrients for energy. Training straight after having eaten you won’t get the energy benefits and may feel a tad sick.

  • layne is retarded. He thinks hes smart but gives the vaguest answers on how hes right and keeps with the “they say” bulls***. He needs to take lessons from people like Thomas Delauer and others who are into real health, fitness, bodybuilding, AND proven science.

  • I typically have a normal sugar cookie or two just to give me that quick energy burn off thing and then I’ll have a meal after. Its not healthy but hey I’ve been losing weight ‍♀️

  • The best pre workout food I have found is a slice of hass avocado (1/4). I have it 2 hours before go time. It is like the perfect food for that. You have potassium, fat that is easily absorbed, some protein, fiber, antioxidants, enzymes to aid digestion, raw makes it alkaline and anti inflammatory.
The more someone manipulates your food, the worse it likely is for you unless you are trying to survive.

  • 12:54 To save you 13 minutes and sum things up, eat a well balanced diet high in whole, fresh foods. Make sure you have some food in you for fuel before workouts. Replenish nutrients AFTER your workout and make sure it includes some protein! Simple concepts taken way way too far

  • What works best for me is I eat 2-3 hours before I lift, so I’m not lifting fasted but I definitely have fuel in my body. Then after my workout I eat a big meal with an emphasis on protein.
