  • you are so beautiful, kind and intelligent and i can tell you know what you are talking about when it comes to nutrition. i love you so much!

  • If you’re going to eat fruit like berries, what time of day/night is the best time to have them?

I fast from 5pm, overnight till noon the next day. I workout from 9am-11am.

So what/when would be the best time for me to eat fruit:
    1. Breaking a fast, as in at noon as the first thing I eat?
    2. Last meal/thing before fasting at 5pm?

  • Can i eat only a fried egg and a glass of milk in dinner after 30 minutes of workout or something else want to be consume?? Please guide me about that…

  • Maddie <3 If I'm on a diet at the moment for losing weight, do you recomend to eat the same things as you? I would change something? I realize that just starting being vegan I already lost weight... But I want to be lean! And I know that will take a time.

  • thank you sooo very much for considering my request regarding this video..really helpful and really grateful too…thank you…

  • So true!! I feel like shit when I try and eat something during my Anabolic window… now after training I just hold off eating till I can break my fast!!

  • 44 years old when I learned how to properly cut a mango. LOL. Never have I thought of oatmeal and mango…. but I LOVE mango and can’t wait to try.

  • I usually train fasted-a little decaf coffee is the best for me! But oatmeal, fruit, even a sweet potato does the trick for a great workout! <3 Post-workout is when I load up with water, complex carbs, and heaps of protein. I also have been adoring lentils with brown rice and veggies as a meal-eggplant, tofu, Brussels sprouts, and spinach are the best combination!

  • what is you eat good before training your training for heavy weight for 4 hour not eating till next day morning you exercise from 3pm till 7 pm start fasting 3 pm after eating breakfast and dinner and fast from 3 to next mourning for religion purpose???? thank you i am caring about health only and muscle not loosing weight

  • I love Fasting but somedays i didnt workout on fasted state because i have to go Job,and that day i can workout only evening and i already breaking fast, how to adjust my meals for that day gaining muscle and control insulin with IF?

  • Just some tips for boosting protein absorption when you cook lentils (or any grains or legumes) from dry, soak them for a few hours first, then cook them with onion or garlic

  • Hey Maddie would you do a reaction/response video to h3h3’s recent podcast about veganism with Michael from Vsauce? The channel is “H3 Podcast Highlights”

  • I take oats, milk, raisins almonds, banana and whey protien powder, honey and just mix and cook them on stove and consume it.Plz tell if it’s fine and safe.

  • Ok It reduced from 16% to 6%… But without context this info can be worthless… We know that an adult man has about 400g of glicogen… At 16% how much intramuscular fat we’re talking about?

  • If I take only whey right after my workout and have my post-workout meal after 1 hour as the video suggested, would that still help to burn fat? Or the whey I took would harm the fat-burning effect?

  • Ok I can see it now, I can see that u will be the one to take bonnie rebeccas position, not trying to compare/compete two fellow youtubers with one another (everyone is diff in their own way) but the thing is theres something soososososososos amazing about you, where u dont beat ur self up for eating junk every now and then considering youre very health based, whereas bonnie was full on hclf, feels bad for eating sonething with oil or junky in general, forced herself way too much to ride her bike etc whereas with u, u dont do that, u and ur bf love to eat junk every now and then and that time u took a month off from the gym etc. Just in general, I love watching ur videos, its always so lighthearted and ur not hard on urself

  • Y’all making fun of this dude for ” big words” and “talking too much” can fuck off. Small brain energy. We came here to research the science to get better results for ourselves. And the dude gaveusexactly that
Too “sCiEnCeY” for you? Read a book.

  • Everybody please just please have atleast a protein bar or something after your workout it’ll help rebuild damaged muscles from your workout and make you stronger believe me it works

  • The food looks good but the second dish needs some kind of sauce or spices because it’s super bland. Eating healthy is the best but i’m not one of those people who can convince themselves that something tastes good just because it’s healthy, if it doesn’t taste good i won’t feel satisfied, i need the flavour.

  • after seeing so many gravity transformation videos, I saw a pessimistic tired face of urs in this video. That’s strange, isn’t it?

  • This is SOOO helpful!! I can’t thank you enough. I’ve been struggling with this for the last 6 weeks. I’m not hungry after a workout but was told I need to drink a shake immediately so I’ve been forcing myself and feeling ugh. Great to know I can wait and still get optimal results. Thanks!

  • Love your videos Maddie and love the always oats cookbook too do you put sauces on your main course foods? If so can you put any good sauce ideas in a next video?

  • you’ve always been my vegan inspiration but now you’re becoming my fitness inspiration too!!! you’re gaining some serious muscle girl, u look great

  • 3 people dislikes it. Hm, can people watch YouTube from a psychiatric ward? I don’t want to offend anyone but, I just don’t get why ppl dislike. Man, if you don’t like it, just watch something else

  • I am watching this video after doing a fasted workout in the morning. And I have to say that I was feeling weak throughout my workout and wasn’t able to lift as heavy. Which means that my workout was not as effective as I wanted it to be.

Therefore personally, I would not be doing fasted workout again and would rather do them in the evening when I would have eaten something in the day.

  • So if you sum it up for a simple non biology guy like me, what are you saying?

If training fasted (= not eating daytime, only in the evenings) do I:
    1. Loose muscle or keep the muscle volume
    2. Loose fat or keep the fat volume

Just keep things simple.. don’t bs a rather simple subject.

  • Hi, I’m a newbie vegan (4 months) and trying to eat as whole food plant based as possible. The one thing I can’t seem to find that doesn’t have extra additives and unnatural ingredients in it is vegan yogurt.. what yogurt do you use Maddie? Or does anyone have any suggestions for a vegan yogurt that has minimal ingredients and no additives or chemicals?

  • I was always under the impression I would faint or something if I trained fasted. I feel like I have tons of energy. I am sure it is just that I am living healthier over all but I have more energy training in fasted states now than I did after eating before.

  • where does a pre-workout drink like C4 fall into this? does it technically count as “eating before the fast”? or does it not matter since there’s not too many carbohydrates, fats, etc?

  • Even when fasting wasn’t a thing, I always trained on empty. Even a small snack prior would take energy to the digestive system… that never sat right for me. Bottom line: do what serves you better✨

  • He says “that’s kinda bro science and not how it works” and then goes on to describe the exact same thing as truth but using bigger words -_-

  • Maddie your videos inspire me sooo much! You’ve showed me it’s not about counting calories, it’s about getting active and nourishing your body with good foods!

  • always go with avocados over coconut oil. avocados have omega 3 fats (very healthy) while coconut oil is saturated (terrible for your heart)

  • I feel like I have got more endurance in running or any cardio session whilst in a fasted state. But strength and conditioning workouts I feel like I need food just to get me through it as its 1 hour and 20 minutes of sweat and discomfort. I’ve tried eating no food but I get anxious as i need to be in the right mind set to complete the workout. Dam ego wont let me quit whenever ive had enough.

  • Hi Thomas, i dont have the possibility to work out in the morning (lifting weights). How do i do this when im doing a 8/16 IF schedule?

  • Following your logic -> the presence of ketones triggers Leucine which prevent burning muscle. Would you than say, that having a table spoon of MCT oil before workout would be an alternative for those who can’t workout in a fasted state?

  • Right when you started cutting the mango I thought “damn that looks like a hella good mango. Quick question about passion fruit, is it always super sour? The ones I’ve had ( I’ve tried 3) have all been soooo sour like almost as sour as lemon flesh. I’m wondering if it’s my location, I live in the northeast cost so not the best fruit climate. That have all been wrinkly and ripe

  • Hellooooo beautiful people!! I hope you all are well! Who says you cant get protein as a vegan? Hope you guys enjoyed this one. And if you want the full workout details then check out my fitness instagram @madfit.ig

  • Last week I missed a day of eating so i went almost 24hr without eating.

The same night I went to the gym and banged out a 2 hr gym session. And since I was intermittent fasting for 24 hrs, I felt like my muscles were ripping thru my skin!! Ahaha the pump was amazing

  • I like working out on an empty stomach then feed the muscles after the work out. If your eat then work out youl be kind of full and lazy.

  • Smoke some weed then lift hard fasted as soon as your done drink a chocolate protein shake(in the gym if possible) then go home and eat spaghetti your all set for massive shit

  • During my OMAD fasted workouts, i initially drag myself to the gym… feels like low energy..but as soon as i force myself to complete the 2nd warm-up set… somehow the Badass in me takes over and the workout turns great..so as far as lack of energy is concerned…its a myth…the body gets its energy even in OMAD fasted conditions.

That was about Energy…all good.., HOWEVER, my strength..my ability to lift heavier weights seem to be going down when i am on OMAD and working out in a fasted state…

Is this just me or folks out here with similar experiences?? Btw.. i have been on OMAD. and low carb for the last 2 years.

  • Working out for long periods of time is gonna burn some muscle… How much long is considered as “long periods”? 1hr? 2hr? 3…?

  • You made my day. I been afraid to workout fasted because of the fear of losing muscle mass, now I can finally let go of that fear and head to gym with no worries.

  • Hi everyone! I’m starting my fitness journey and wanted to ask if anyone has ever felt light-headed or sick after drinking a protein shake? I’ve been going to the gym 5 days a week for a month now but I felt my diet was missing a little help on the protein side, being vegetarian I tried Sunwarrior but for some reason I’m fine before I drink it, but after I feel sick. I stopped now of course, but I wanted to know if anyone had experienced something similar or if my body needs to get used to it.

    Thanks!

  • Sorry, i was sooo hungry.

I didnt eat “right away” but i ate about 15-20 minutes after i did my cool down strecthing.

    I ate a pb & j sandwhich lol

  • My friend’s brother who is basketball player and he got a schoolarship to play in America tought me this trick because i’m a volleyball player and have intensive trainings twice a day and i struggle with my weight to after i finish working out before i actually eat something that i should just eat cheese because he said that it helps your fat turn into muscle faster or something and i tried it out and i didn’t lose much weight on the scale but damn my stomach got so flat and toned up i was so shocked when i saw myself in the mirror.I recommend this to everyone who workout as much as i do and i hope it helps just as it helped me:-)

  • suprisingly am on calory deficit for two months and intense weight lifting workout 4-5 times a week, well yeah am doing dead lifts squads melitary press and am loosing weight but not enormous drop of body fat percentage, just one percent in one month 22%-21% age 42, is that okay?

  • so if iam trying to loss fat but build some muscle i should not drink a protien shake right after and tbem wait a bit to have a post work out meal? kinda got confused at the end thanks in edvanved

  • Sometimes I avoid workout to lose weight.. Because after workout you get very hungry and then you have to eat when there is no healthy food in your fridge.

  • After watching your vlogs I’ve been hooked on oats yum!!
I cook my oats with water, cinamon, sultanas!
then I top with coconut chocolate yogurt, walnuts, grapes, peaches, plum so so good!!!
    Thank you for sharing ♥

  • question: what if i add in some bcaa drink in there? am i still considered fasted and will i still reap the benefits of the “fat burning” stuff

  • OK so you shouldn’t worry about loosing muscle fasted but can you gain as much? Gains have been so slow for me that just today I started eating pre workout. I noticed a boost in energy right away. Will be interesting to see if there is more muscle gain.

  • Your videos are owesome and your meals look delicious af congratulations for all your accomplishments. But I do not understand how you are so skinny if you eat a Lot

  • Hi, I would like ideas on meals for a teen, volleyball practice goes until later in the evening. Pre-and post practice/game food fuel. Do you have a website/email. Thanks

  • What if the only thing I consume is a pre-workout? I do know the sweeteners etc stop part of the fasting benefits but I wonder if this actually mean I can loose muscle during a morning weight session…

  • Saying fasted cardio is better because you burn more fat while training doesn’t take into account the next 24 hours. Research suggests that over a 24 hour period, the amount of fat and carbs burned is the same regardless of whether the exercise took place before the first mean of the day (fasted) or between meals (not fasted).

  • This is one of the greatest videos of working out in a fasted state I have ever seen.I am definitely impressed of the breakdown of science and the studies that were brought together to clarify the benefits of training while fasting, well done!

  • luis villasenor from ketogains
    Says
For building muscle you should not training fasted
Cuase muscle will be breaking down while weight training

  • Not to mock what is being said in this video but personally I wouldn’t follow this advice fully. My reasons are 1) Processing fruit depletes the nutrients in them so better to eat fruit as is in my opinion. 2) Protein powder, it isn’t well recognised that too much protein like any nutrient gets stored as fat in the body so buying protein powder is not a good idea in my opinion.

  • Hey man, Love your videos, can you advise when person is skinny fat, wants to gain muscle as well as burn fat, is protein shake after a workout mixed with milk suitable? While having a full meal without carbs about an hour later? Hopefully you ll answer:)

  • Hi,is the best for me to gain muscle to take carbirade wich is full of simple glycogyne as pst workout or take directly whey protin?? Pls help

  • Ok so what if you want to burn fat and build muscle what food do we eat after a workout? Hope you can help thanks great video btw!!!

  • Hi,
Can I achieve a same results with using bcaa or eaa-being maybe even more anabolic (if my goal is not auttophagy, but rather fat loss)? I love these form of “fasted workouts”, because I feel truly even more energized because of leucine content…Thanks everybody

  • Just to let u know. I hope you feed your cat a strict carnivore diet. All politics and beliefs, aside cats are clearly carnivores. And if u care about health as much as you do, you should with your cat. Pllzzzz ffs

  • It’s an interesting study. But what happens when you work at 100% instead of 75%?
Like if you hit legs at the gym for 60-90 mins doing sets to failure, drop setting, super setting, squats, lunges, leg press, dead lifts etc would the glucose utilization still be the same in both groups?
Variables such as training length and intensity would play a big roll in glucose utilization, and there has to be a point where muscle WILL be used as fuel.

  • What about a skinny dude like me? I workout to gain weight. The last thing I want is to burn that last bit of fat that I have.. is it still make sense to workout in a fasted state in my case??

  • After My Workout i eat Chicken breast and my protein Shake + My Dinner and Some vegetable Salad that will be Problem? btw i Jerkoff once a WEAK! Pls reply me Post Owner ty <3

  • Love you sweety,, i m vegetarian and cannot afford protein powder..so can i drink milk after workout to hv my protein
How much protein in one 20ogm serving bowl of cooked lentils? Plz tell

  • im on my 36th hour of fasting, then i did a hundred pushups… im not sweating very much unlike when i was still on 16/8 pattern. is this alarming?

  • how come I didn’t see this video earlier…? This is great information, every time I want to train on an empty stomach there is that one guy saying that I’m gonna lose muscle or that I’ll faint in the middle of the workout…

  • You won my sub for your channel. Especially you’re using DBZ lol. Anways. I’m looking forward on more of your videos as I am starting to go to the gym again to tone muscle. I am 34 y/o at 170lb. 5’8″ with a blob of stomach fat…. waist size is 34. Today was day 1.

  • You can also eat fat + proteine after your workout, if you dont add carbs to the meal. This will keep your body on fat burning. Amazing video, not many people know this fact.

  • Maddie I love your videos! As a person who needs to lose a lot of weight I tend to worry about eating the carbs of the oatmeal and sugars of the fruit. I want to become vegan, but then get so confused on how to lose this weight that I end up thinking I should just eat meat and veggies.

  • What if I am trying to cut? I want to maintain muscle mass but get to lower body fat percentage. Is it best to just have a protein shake and not eat? By the way I work out at night and go to bed a couple hours after my workout. Any help is great thanks

  • Good video…you answered all my questions about post workout meals…concise and you didn’t ramble on like some other trainers on YouTube

  • Tried working out in a fasted state. I fainted flat on my third day due to low blood pressure. Still seems very tempting but…guess not for me..

  • How many hours overnight, after the last meal and before the first workout, were the people in the study getting whom were considered fasted?

  • How will fructose in oranges replenish the glycogen in the muscles?? Glucose should do it right.. Overall the video is fine but a few incorrect information could cause damage to people with strict goals

  • Thomas, I understand from your videos that workout fasted burn more fat. That because there is less carbs to be used as fuel. But does workout or cardio fasted burn more calories?? I mean, do we lose more fat because of the fasted workout? for example if I do exactly the same thing same food same workout but one I do after eat and one I do fasted. will the fasted workout burn more fat?

  • Bro thank you so much for all your amazing helpful tips but my question is I always workout late night 8 pm and after then I have to sleep 10pm-11pm you think that’s a good aida to eat and sleep those recommended foods

  • I started working out 2 months ago and at i thought first fed workout would make me feel better and would work on me so when i did the chloe ting challenge workout, at the end of the challenge there was like little to no change (i had my meal plan sorted out) and i was frustrated because i really worked hard for it. And so in my second try i did the fasted workout and during those times i was feeling better because i didnt feel heavy during my sessions. At the end of the challenge i legit saw visible results so i just decided to workout on an empty stomache until now. But i really think the bottomline on this is what you really prefer to do whether fasted nor fed but for me personally my genes plays a crucial part in my fitness journey so my metabolism is different from others who get fit easily. Alsthough its frustrating and saddening on my end because i wanna be like other people who get fit easily and have my ideal body type i have to work even as much as harder and i have to be smarter in my habits and food choices because not all body are the same. Its a sad fact for me but you know, progress takes time.

  • I actually used to train fasted without thinking about it or even knowing the word fasted.
And i had SOOO much energy that it was basically infinite and big muscles, my brain was also on overdrive in every aspect!

  • So I work nights and eat when I get up and at lunch at work then go workout after work and I usually just get some whey protein when I get home. I get off at 6 workout for an hour or two and usually in bed bout 10 or 11 would it be OK to get carbs in the meal when I wake up?

Going for fat loss since I need to get about 100lbs off and going for building muscle too so I won’t have much loose skin. Lol

  • please explain what u mean by saying that if we dont eat after the workout we burn more fat? wont it be the same sh it if we just eat the food and burn its calories rather than burn fat and then eat food to add the fat again? isnt it all about calories consumed and calories burned??

  • As a vegan I think this is a great video. Because you just treat not eating meat as normal and tell people what some great protein sources from plants are. You’re not like… OUUUH but if you don’t eat, if you haaaave to… those are some examples but you better eat meat! This video is informs without being offensive to meat eaters or plant eaters; not many videos manage to do so these days! Love it!

  • I agree with ehat you said but if I’m a normal average slim person and I want to biuld muscle mass and I’m exercising seriously, what is best for me? Have a pre work out meal or not?

  • @thomasdelauer you mention training in a fasted state is different from fasting, according to this statement how long should be the fast state period to star training and taking this benefits?

  • I need help I’m a 14 year old and I go swimming 3 times a week for 2 hours and I finish at 10 in the evening I I don’t know what to do to burn fat…eat before sleep or not eat until breakfast?

  • Where do you get your tops/bras? I’ve been looking for some just like the ones you have but haven’t been able to find many good results

  • Thank you man.I had tried exercising in fasted state many time and yes doing body weight exercises, cardio and even strength training is better in fasted mode.More energy, more focus and somehow easier to lift that last 2 reps.I don’t recommend exercising during 5 days of fasting though cos you wilk lose a tons of weight like 10kgs of fats but the dry effects is pretty bad.You can feel your Testosterone depleted and yours muscles gains depleted too.

  • Son of a bitch! I’m in a fast and at like 5:40 this sociopath puts images of sushi into the video. Willpower is a finite resource!

  • wow this is so informative yet short and simple, one of my favourite health and fitness videos to watch on youtube.. and I’ve watched hundreds!

  • Hey Thomas just wondering I usually fast from 6pm to 12/1 pm the next day but hit the gym after work around 10pm in my fasting window should I consume anything post workout to build muscle or is it ok to continue the fast till the next day when my feeding window resumes?

  • Loved the video! I was wondering about “negative calorie foods”, The theory supposedly is that your body uses more energy trying to digesting the food then the amount of energy the food provide so it ends up burning a calorie or two in the end. Is there any truth to this?

  • Hi, sorry about that one. Can you tell me can I get bad belly from taking to match amino acids. I have 5th time a day 2 capsules. and 4 protein shakes? Thanks
