The Power of Nitrates Gym Performance & Muscle Enhancement A few years ago, several new ingredients hit the market that would become the latest fad for bodybuilders chasing the pump. Arginine (ARG) was the first true?pump? ingredient that claimed to increase plasma nitric oxide (NO) levels which would lead to increased vasodilation and massive pumps in the gym. Strictly, it’s not the nitrate that’s the performance enhancer but a simpler molecule nitrate is converted into inside the body – first nitrite, and then nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is the potent. Another theory is that the extra NO produced in the body when nitrate is consumed stimulates the production of muscle mitochondria.

The mitochondria can be considered as the ‘energy factories’ in muscle cells and greater numbers of mitochondria would enable more efficient oxygen metabolism. Nitrates are reliable and effective, unlike the supplements in previous nitric oxide boosters, like L-arginine and L-citrulline. Dietary nitrate (NO 3−) supplementation has been evidenced to induce an ergogenic effect in endurance and sprint-type exercise, which may be underpinned by enhanced muscle contractility and perfusion, particularly in type II muscle fibers.

    if you do SIT, you will grow mitochondria but do not multiply them.
    growing them bigger and stronger ends at some point when mitochondria cannot grow bigger anymore.
    then doing SIT again does not make sense anymore.
    so you have to do fasted LISS in zone 2. there will be a similar pathway activation through AMPK/PGC-Alpha. However, the signals are somehow different because now the mitochondria are dividing. that means that we have now more but smaller mitochondria.
    doing LISS all the time also does not make sense anymore because small mitochondria cannot divide anymore. so you have to do SIT again to make them grow again.
    conclusion: you need to do SIT and LISS in an alternating protocol to get maximum fat oxidation.

  • This video is a scam. L-Arginine is not the same as L-Citrulline which is what’s found in most “pump” pre-workouts. Your body can metabolize Citrulline in a way that creates vasodialation.   • This is more of a crusade against arginine than nitric oxide in general, but the bottom line is you can have a family doctor check serum NO in the blood pre supplementation and post and it’s going to be elevated. The problem tho is you are misleading people into thinking nitric oxide products in general are bad and that’s simply not true.   • Supplements are a waste of money for young people, IMO. Your body will produce whatever hormone you need for working out. Just stick to a healthy balanced diet and don’t over train. Nothing short of anabolic steroids can help you grow faster than normal. As we get older however our bodies stop making needed amino acids and hormones so supplementation is the only way to get them. Since I turned 50, a few years ago, NO2 has helped me immensely. I feel like I’m 30 again.

    i think this is completely wrong. LISS training on keto is more effective because the CH group needs to empty their glycogen tanks longer before the training session gets effective. so people on a ketogenic diet need to do 30min shorter LISS but might profit from doing SIT more often.
    if i remember right, the yonly did 10k and 20k where the CH people have enough CH with them. within a 42km run this could be a problem. 42k and longer is where keto athletes can shine. i consider that endurance.
    but as i said, also the exercise needs to fit the diet. did they consult steven phinney?

    doing LISS all the time also does not make sense anymore because small mitochondria cannot divide anymore. so you have to do SIT again to make them grow again.
    conclusion: you need to do SIT and LISS in an alternating protocol to get maximum fat oxidation.

  • funny, this is one of the few supplements i believe in. I was dealing with high BP, heavy heart beats, Cold feet/hands, crappy endurance, etc.. I took arganine and the first week i felt a big difference in my endurance and my mood shifted. To get better effects, drink beat juice(nitric oxide) mixed with arginine. May not be for everyone, but with those people who suffer from the bad NOS3 gene, maybe so.

    i think this is completely wrong. LISS training on keto is more effective because the CH group needs to empty their glycogen tanks longer before the training session gets effective. so people on a ketogenic diet need to do 30min shorter LISS but might profit from doing SIT more often.
    if i remember right, the yonly did 10k and 20k where the CH people have enough CH with them. within a 42km run this could be a problem. 42k and longer is where keto athletes can shine. i consider that endurance.
    but as i said, also the exercise needs to fit the diet. did they consult steven phinney?

  • I’ve taken Cellucor N03 for years and IF you lift, yes, it will increase oxygen and blood flow to your muscles. If you don’t lift, it can aid in erections. Giving to a sedentary individual will have little effect!

  • I would suggest changing the title to arginine rather than Nitric oxide supplements as a whole because you only really gave evidence against arginine

  • I buy my organic beets clean put them in water on the kitchen shelf and wait a week when it gives them new life. they grow new leavesI then cut the leaves and they regrow again then after a short while I juice them lovely and crisp. I also grow in garden cutting the leaves every other day. quality
