The Truth About Dried Fruit. 1. You may be eating more than you think. Because the water has been removed, dried fruits carry less volume than fresh.

While you probably wouldn 2. Dried fruits can be full of added sugars. Dried fruit isn’t candy, so be wary if it tastes like it is. To make them. Dried fruit is approximately 30% water and 70% sugar. Different dried fruits have different proportions of glucose and fructose, but you’re essentially eating sucrose (table sugar) with a mild vitamin tablet.

Is this unique to dried fruit? All fruit is a mixture of glucose and fructose, but dried fruit is especially dense, having lost water. The Truth About Dried Fruit.

Is dried fruit healthy – We can all agree that a healthy amount of fruit is a worthy consideration in a healthy diet. Fruits are nature’s candies, presenting a delicious taste that comes together with a vast array of nutrients. Fruits are therefore a good way to balance the health requirements of your diet while also tending to your natural desire to satisfy your tastebuds is.

The Truth About Dried Fruits Dried fruits are sweet on their own, but some food manufacturers will add sugar to dried fruits to make them even more palatable. Dried fruits can make a convenient snack or a quick way to add sweetness to a salad. But if you’ve ever wondered if dried fruits have the same nutritional benefits as fresh, the truth is: not quite. Studies suggest dried fruits may be a good source of important nutrients, such as fiber, vitamins A,. The most common way this is done is to soak the fruit in SO2 and boil it long enough to meet the FDA requirement of fewer than ten parts per million.

Not only is this secretive use of sulfur dioxide alarming, but it changes the texture of the dried fruit completely, making it feel almost erasure-like in the consumer’s mouth. But if you’ve ever wondered if dried fruits have the same nutritional benefits as fresh, the truth is: not quite. Studies suggest dried fruits may be a good source of important nutrients, such as fiber, vitamins A, C, and K, magnesium, potassium, and calcium, and they may improve diet quality. Dried fruit is certainly delicious, but its healthfulness honestly depends on the kind you choose. Dried fruit has a reputation for being fattening or loaded with sugar, but the truth is it can be.

Food contains calories, and eating too many calories-even of healthy foods-leads to weight gain. But there are healthy calories and unhealthy (“empty”) calories, and fruit is a healthy source of calories. That’s as true of dried fruit as fresh fruit. There are some caveats, however. Because dried fruit is so much smaller than the fresh fruit from which it comes, it’s easier to consume a lot of calories eating dried fruit.

Dried fruit contains a lot of sugar, which has the same effect on teeth as sugar from fizzy drinks and chocolate ‘Dried fruits are frequently advertised as a healthy snack, but the negative impact.

  • If you make dried fruit at home and not buy the store bought, it’s very good for you. Anything pre-made, shipped in bulk, and sold retail has chemicals and preservatives. I can hardly eat pre-packaged foods anymore. I make everything from scratch from breads, to snacks, to meals. I hardly used boxed anything! Most of that stuff is rough to digest. So I get where this guy is coming from, but to say it’s all bad would be wrong. Too many anti-sugar advocates. Fruit sugar is fine. Everything in moderation. Look we’re all going to die. No one is going to outlive death. Enjoy yourself but be smart so that you feel good.

  • Hey there, have you seen Lean Body Maximizer? (search for it on google) You will discover the crimes we commit against our bodies. With “Lean Body Maximizer”, you will discover how to burn calories fast.

  • The dried cranberries in my cupboard have added sugar but if you dry fruit yourself you do not need to add sugar. We were traveling last week and I ate some homemade dried persimmons. I think it was a good snack choice.

  • The body creates its own cholesterol… stop eating animals… eat those ripe bananas, order lots of fresh dates, throw some straches/legumes/veggiez in a slow cooker, eat some fruits in season & most important MOVE YOUR ASS you gatta chare the body UP

  • Of course the keto guy says dried fruit is unhealthy. Keto is a hack; it works for some by having your body run on ketones as a fuel alternative. It’s just that though…AN ALTERNATIVE!! Our natural fuel source is carbohydrates; that is scientific fact. Carry on

  • I buy dried prunes and apricots with no added preservatives or sugar, and both of those have high potassium, which is something a large portion of humanity is short of.

  • Freeze-dried foods of fruits and vegetables made by natural cultivation have already been completed. It can be easily returned to the original state with water, and the taste and mouthfeel are restored to the original state. Those dried fruits and dried vegetables whose cells have not been destroyed can be stored for a long period of two to three years, and are expected to save the future of food shortages.

  • Automatic thumbs down
    1. You automatically lost all credibility by saying “dried fruit is the worst snack”
    2. There are A TON of dried fruit options out there that do not contain added sugars or preservatives.

    This information is very misleading.

  • …yes that’s on the ingredients label all that added sugar. People can read the label I have a dehydrator. And I understand it’s not a typical house hold appliance but we dehydrate food all the time and don’t add anything to the fruit other than fresh lemon juice to keep the fruit from Browning.

  • My mom cut freash pineapple she cut the skin and i ate it and it poked my mouth and it just keeps on hurting me and my mom just said to eat suger

  • I eat prunes in small servings so the GL of my servings never go over 5. That’s the same GL as berries. Prunes keep me regular so i’ll continue to enjoy them

  • I want to tell everyone that potatoes, fruit, and starch doesnt spike blood sugar:) I tested it with myself and my blood levels remained even in the perfect range of fasting glucose levels. However maybe it can vary from individual to individual. So far I tested several fruits, sweet and plane potatoes, rice crackers with peanut butter (peanut butter may have something to do with it)

  • Anything consumed in incorrect quantities tends to be unhealthy. Dried fruit is NOT a “convenience food”.
I dehydrate bananas to prevent them from ripening excessively and keep them for extended periods of time. Same with apples. If you know how many chips equal one fruit then there is no problem whatsoever. And yes, anything store bought and processed is a gamble in itself.
This video generalizes. And that is just as bad as no information at all.

  • My father is a lawyer and he don’t eat anything throughout his working time, plz suggest me some gd dried fruits mixture for my father. Dr plz give your suggestions

  • Great video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried Melubras Physique Patenier (search on google)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for getting a flatter belly fast without the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got amazing results with it.

  • A little off topic but… I’ve just learned that fat is actually lost via exhalation and excretion in urine and faeces. If that’s true, how does food fuel the body?

  • You’re being simplistic. Bananas also contain potassium, which affects electrolyte balance. Too much and your heart will palpitate, your blood pressure decrease significantly, too little will do the opposite. Moderately, it will be just right. So Mercola is not that far with his 2 banana servings a day.

  • most of your reasons for calling dried fruit unhealthy is the same excuse vegans say about meat products like the blood, pus, and hormones. or saying coffee is unhealthy because people add sugar, CAFO cream/milk, etc
    didn’t like this video

  • I️ see everyone’s replied comment. It shows that I️ have one but for some reason I️ can’t view it what should I️ do? Help pls if u can thanks

  • Hey guys. Wonderful film. My brother used to be an overweight gent. He remodeled his body from 283 lbs of pure fat to 200lbs of full-strength lean muscle. I couldn’t believe it! I just subscribed personally as I need to boost my entire body. He made use of the Muscle Building Bible (Look in Google)…

  • I’m trying all the plant based tricks to lower my cholesterol since I recently scored a 240 on my blood work with a junk food vegan diet. Partly because I’m on a medication known to raise cholesterol.

  • What if I dehydrate my own food at home and add NOTHING to them.? I know the sugars might condense but if I take what I have and measure it out.. would it not be just as healthy to eat the foods I dehydrate at home, no preserves and no added anything.. to that of hydrated foods I would have to pay over and over again only to watch the unused product go to waste?

  • Everyone is complaining about 8hrs bills and all that stuff…. This video is actually useful for some of the ingredients like “Pomegranate seed drying ” or any other spices, i dried pomegranate seeds inside oven on 100℃ for first 15min then on 40℃ for 2hrs. Now gonna use it to make Sour chicken soup…. Yipee

  • An average sized yellow banana has 26 grams of SIMPLE Carbs. That’s roughly 156 g a day. Even Dr. Greger would not advice that. Fiber is key in losing weight and bananas don’t have enough fiber, if at all. 14g fiber per 1000 cals is suggested. Insoluble fiber for people with intestinal hyperpermeability.

  • Fruit itself has its own balanced nutrition for a purposeful reason. Taking out nutrients and leaving just a dried up fruit with only sugar is NOT benificial. You might as well eat some candy…through the dehyradtion process you also loose KEY VITAMINS AND MINERALS… and that is no good. i like this video and i agree with Rene:) yes the body needs sugar but each food helps balance and benifit that sugar with other key ingredients..

  • All this Paleo v. HCRV hype just spells both extremes. Zone diet is most probably the most balanced with a 40-30-30 based on actual scientific research. Probably a hybrid of HCRV + Zone Diet would be great. “HCRV allows u to eat so many cals w/o weightgain cause it’s very inefficient to convert carbs->fat,they eat 0 added fat so there’s no fat to be stored in the presence of high insulin & glucose oxidation. Sucrose based sugars also hav a slight metabolic advantage over other foods; also fiber”

  • Who is turning their oven on in their tiny as NYC apartment in this humidity to make this crap when they can just go to Trader Joe’s? Not my fat ass, I need my fruit cold out the fridge.

  • worrying about cholesterol or trying to control it is pointless. taking omega3, and calcium edta daily is leaps and bounds beyond cholesterol control in preventing and reverseing heart disease and stroke. low cholesterol actually is extremely bad and makes bones leech all their calcium and go brittle, thats why a lot of times people on cholestrol drugs break bones and some so bad their bones can’t even hold pins.

  • I ferment my dried organic fruit. Get the fruit fiber and vitamins/minerals minus the sugar. All the benifits and none of the negatives.

  • i LOVE vegan nut bars crumbled to chunks in a bowl with pieces of ripe bananas, mangoes or any raw dense fruit, few table spoons of organic self stir peanut/almond/mixed nutbutters.

  • can you say anything about the comparison of dried fruit vs not dried/fresh? I figured the phytonutrients and fibers should be still there or is the drying process in general a degration of the good things?

  • You said no positives about this nor did you attempt to. Theres many companies that make them without additives or preservatives and also the sugar is natural and carried with the fiber and vitamins/minerals which makes it healthier than many other things you have favored over this. People eat this stuff! its better for you than other snacks, and most of all it help a lot curving sugar cravings which will stop you from making worse food choices.

  • Perhaps green bananas would be better as well with its resistant starch content. You’re doing the 80 10 10 macro ratio apparently. The question is how often do you do cardio / HIIT / muscle training x minutes a day y times a week?

My step daughter use to say ‘oh I eat healthy coz It’s fruits (dries fruit) I told her no that is not healthy and she keep gaining weight…now she know….

  • The conception of a high carbohydrate diet blocking fat loss is false.
When attempting keto, avoiding high carb snacks is a must but that does not make Dried Fruit a non-healthy snack. Lots of dried fruits carry a good supply of vitamins and minerals. It’s more about portion control! I’ve lost a lot of weight with keto and non-keto and I can say for certain that I find myself enjoying food a lot more on a high carb type diet. I’ve lost weight while eating dried fruit as well, apricots, raisins, dates, mulberries were just a few dried fruits I consumed while being in a caloric deficit.
