  • This experiment should have been conducted by only one control not two different people drinking two different drinks. Ingested chemicals have a different effect on peoples glucose levels and how you process sugar. This proves nothing, but great video still. good work

  • The artificial sugars in Diet Sodas don’t cause weight gain but I believe it does throw your hormones out of whack causing weight gain. Since I started drinking diet soda I went from 165lbs to 230lbs. I ended up with diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and high cholesterol. Once I can wean myself off of the drink since it’s so addictive I will see if I can lose the weight.

  • I’ve never understood how people can drink that garbage. I think I’ve drank one compete can in my entire life. It’s fucking disgusting

  • For smoothies, buy bananas, let them sit until they start turning black and getting soft spots, freeze them, and use those to sweeten your smoothie. Add cocao, vegetables, milk kefir(loaded with probiotics, easy to make, and sort of tastes like yogurt), coffee beans, etc., because those bananas are going to be very sweet enough to not need to add sugar.

  • Something without sugar in it will obviously have little impact on blood sugar levels. Now I’d like to see insulin response to sugar-free drinks.

  • Hey guys, check out also the paper on nature by Suez et al, 2014, about gut microbiome and artificial sweeteners, I found It very interesting.

  • America! Stop drinking this synthesized poison. We have been programmed to eat and drink sweet foods and beverages and it is killing us. These foods cause Diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Get off fake food and beverages.
We eat like kids who’s parents leave them for a weekend with a refrigerator full of junk food.

  • The theory I heard was the the brain gets the message that calories are on the way but nothing happens, and the more this happens, the less the brain reacts to the sweetness, so when you actually do eat sugar, the brain can’t tell the body to be ready for it so can’t deal with it correctly.

  • The only good thing about diet sodas is when consumed with alcohol they make you get drunk faster. Other than that, just enjoy the real thing instead of a half OK subsitute

  • i drink diet coke 3-4 cans a day and its true that it causes headache or migrane. but with weight im not too sure. i didnt gain weight when drinking diet sodas. ive been drinking since February but i know for sure sodas are not healthy. now i stop drinking soda and increase my water intake

  • I would suggest you try that again please using a normal person, an obese person and also type I and type II diabetics. Looking and both sugar and ketones

    Many thanks

  • My parents would love this pod, they hate me drinking Diet Coke.
It’s really my only vice, I don’t smoke and I rarely drink.
It’s seriously an addiction to me, I’m so bad I can tell if it’s the real stuff, and definitely the difference between coke, Diet Coke and zero.
Zero is rotten, reg Coke is too thick/sugary.
Diet Coke in the perfect container, at the perfect temperature with the right amount of fizz cracked over a tall glass full of ice, just the sound of it being poured makes me feel all kinds of ways.
It’s like the stress just evaporates from my body.
And if you haven’t had it for a few days, it’s really hot out, that sound and then the taste makes the pleasure signals in my brain light up.
I’d nearly go without it just to get that extra rush when I finally get my hands back on it.
I’m actually reminiscing right now about how good it feels.

  • Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you ever tried Taparton Impressive Look Takeover (search on google)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for Getting a bikini ready body in 60 days minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my cooworker after many years got astronomical success with it.

  • This is fair disappointing. What kind of science is this? Just because the no-calories drink does not make your blood sugar level go up, you conclude this stuff does not make ppl fat? Who is paying you? Have you ever heard of the correlation between obesity and low-level inflammation? Now, I would like to see a video where you lot prove to me that diet soda does NOT cause these inflammations.

  • Oh thank goodness! I thought this may be a diet soda diss… I’ve been drinking it, usually just one, a day and it makes me so happy! Whew! So glad I didn’t have to unsub!

  • Thanks for the Video! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered Taparton Impressive Look Takeover (erm, check it on google should be there)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my best friend Jordan after many years got cool success with it.

  • Neat experiment, but I don’t see what it has to do with either the title or subject of the video. What does blood sugar have to do with diet drinks making you fat?

  • I used to look down on diet drinks and artificial sweeteners until I learned how to count macros to try to lose some fat. Consuming stevia on a daily basis allowed me to reduce sugary treats. Definitely helpful for fat loss!

  • trump isn’t THAT overweight i mean cmon he’s 74 yrs old lol. and i drink a LOT of coke. i know its bad for me but im still super super thin. im one of those that keeps trying to gain weight to no avail tho so, everyone’s different

  • I personally don’t do well with diet sodas, but I do use lots of stevia to tame the sweet tooth. Tuning into your own body as a bodybuilder is key.

  • Kudos for the video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried Taparton Impressive Look Takeover (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? • Diet soda vs. what? Regular soda? I’m not an advocate of diet soda, but, as a replacement for those that are drinking regular soda, I feel it’s a good replacement until they can fully abandon all soda.

  • There is no link between diet drinks and obesity. People who drink diet drinks tend to have more unhealthy diets…give me a meat lovers pizza and a diet coke please.

  • Honestly it’s about choosing between taste & body. Yes you can have fruit substitute some taste but mostly your body adjusts to the healthier diet. But most popular foods are essentially poison. And that’s why a lot of people age so poorly.

  • Im on keto and have drink tons of coke zero every day for years and weigh 110 lbs. It definitely does not cause weight gain. I lost 40 lbs while drinking it. However, im concerned about gut biome and if it interferes with absorption of nutrients and hair loss ect

  • All experts out there, listen in 100 christmases we are all dead no matter how many diet cokes you refused in your life. Cheers

  • From my won experience, I drink pepsi zero everyday and I have already lost 25kg. My previous wait was 90, now I’m 65kg. Guys listen, I don’t say it’s healthy but I just explained what happened to me. When you drink soda that’s makes you fell full which eating less, But if you focus on bulding muscle you have to stop doing that and drink water.

  • “don’t be a sheep, just believe and follow everything Trump says or does derp” He is a Christian conservative (just don’t look at his entire history on this planet)

  • Well, artificial sweeteners aren’t good for your body either. Just switch to water and unsweetened tea… Yes, it will be hard initially but you’ll eventually appreciate the taste too and you will also be much better off:]

  • My parents would love this pod, they hate me drinking Diet Coke.

  • The vast majority of diet soda’s have high Glycemic index ratings which means that they are highly like to stimulate an insulin response when consumed. Insulin converts nutrients in your blood into fat which leads to weight gain; while diet drinks aren’t AS bad as full sugared diet drinks they are still horrendous.

Notably because of the above mentioned insulin response, diet drinks can also lead to diabetes, since diabetes is after all a symptom of ill-insulin responses.

  • Thanks for the Video! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered Taparton Impressive Look Takeover (erm, check it on google should be there)? • Diet Pepsi dont make you fat i drink 3 x 2 litters of diet Pepsi daily start 16yo now im 35yo make 19 years i think im classified for talk more then a lot of peoples and im not big.
Dont do like me my stomach acid burn as hell now reflux all day baking soda thank you haha….

Ps: Cafein effect = Lost weight its not the soda drink cafe you get same result of lost weight

  • Nothing. Nothing happens. Stop using diet coke as a cashgrab. You know people are scared of anything diet and you use that fear to harvest views. People don’t listen to this crap. Diet Coke is safe and won’t do anything to your body. Enjoy your diet coke.

  • 100% diet coke is safer than your shitty municipal tap water. Maybe you’ve been drinking too much in LA? I hear it’s cleaner in Texas. Dumbass

  • But you don’t measure the insulin? You should. Your conclusion is really not correct. There are a lot of other parameters to take into consideration, like if you eat together with the diet coke or not.

  • The artificial sugars in Diet Sodas don’t cause weight gain but I believe it does throw your hormones out of whack causing weight gain. • Winner of a video, I have been researching “clean bulking tips” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across Senictoria Bulking Paradise (should be on google have a look )? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my neighbour got excellent success with it.

  • Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about “how to clean bulk” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of Senictoria Bulking Paradise (do a search on google )? Ive heard some decent things about it and my m8 got great results with it.

  • Alright, so the people who drink diet soda tend to weigh more…. maybe they drink diet soda because of that so they are trying to lose weight? The diet soda by itself doesn’t make you gain more weight. It doesn’t put a gun to your head and say “Eat more sugary food”. Here’s an idea if you’re thinking about eating something sweet when you know you shouldn’t….. don’t.

  • “don’t be a sheep, just believe and follow everything Trump says or does derp” He is a Christian conservative (just don’t look at his entire history on this planet)

  • The studies that show a link is because those who drank diet soda were more likely to eat less healthy food vs the water control group. Keep drinking your diet coke guys.

  • Good knowledge, I started drinking no calorie sodas around 20 yrs. ago and I lost 40 lbs. Now I have gain it all back plus some and couldn’t figure it out until now, I do crave sweets often and do have them, especially late at night. I now may quit drinking the diet sodas and start drinking water and see if this makes my deep craving go away
I sure hope so and thanks for sharing this with us..!

  • You stick to your pizzas, beer, whisky, marijuana, and steroids Joe, but if you wanna talk health concerns maybe you need to put your own house in order first.

  • One of the leading Scoutmasters in our area frequently noted how bees would avoid the diet drinks or anything else with artificial sweetener, so he did too.

My take is that the correlation between possible weight gain, or at least lack of weight loss, associated means we don’t yet fully understand the full details of the effects on artificial sweeteners on our bodies. I might have it if it’s the only thing around, but I just don’t feel right about them.

  • What about the idea that it may not be the artificial sweetner that affects people? What if it is the phosphoric acid that drains nutrients from the body, such as calcium? This might mess up the metabolism. idk just another idea.

  • She seems like she’s going to say something interesting but then she just wants to show you all the studies she’s read about without actually talking about them.

  • I’m bout to invest in Diet Coke. If I can drink that shit and create the worlds best economy and get the black and Hispanic unemployment levels to extreme minimums then I’m onboard.

  • This chick is hilarious… I love it when doctors tried to exhibit knowledge about stuff they couldn’t possibly know about they always act like the have all the answers but they really don’t……

  • The more i drank sting coca cola sprite i became more slim and i never gained weight like people do although i want to gain it for my gym goals but just couldn’t

  • so called “studies” theorizing that the brain is thinking calories are coming & when it isn’t getting the calories, it drives people to eat more… but the brain doesn’t work that way. it doesn’t know which food gives you calories, which doesn’t. our likeness of specific foods evolved by natural selection. like all carnivorous animals eat meat because they are designed to like umami taste but as pandas lack that gene they don’t eat meat. meat would be equally nourishing for them. pls don’t promote the pseudo-scientific “studies”.

  • It’s not the diet soda. People that drink diet soda are generally overweight already and have garbage diets. Diet soda is definitely better for you than sugary soda.

  • People do blow, get black out drunk, eat fast food, and all that shit but a diet coke is the end of the world. “Studies say sweetener can give you cancer”. The sun can give you cancer who cares.

  • One thing not mentioned is it’s harmful for the teeth and causes decay. Dentist informed me. I loved drinking Diet Coke for years. Still miss it. Not worth the damage to teeth.

  • This could have been a very illuminating demonstration if:
The sugar content and volume consumed was listed in the non-diet drink
The volume consumed and specific sweetener was listed in the diet drink
Tests were conducted using at least 6 of the most common artificial sweeteners vs sugar,

  • I lost 80 plus pounds drinking diet Sunkist, Dr pepper, tea, and flavored waters. Just now started drinking water to fast better in my fasting window

  • What about the idea that it may not be the artificial sweetner that affects people? What if it is the phosphoric acid that drains nutrients from the body, such as calcium? This might mess up the metabolism. idk just another idea.

  • Appreciate video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you researched Taparton Impressive Look Takeover (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a smashing one off guide for Getting a bikini ready body in 60 days minus the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin got astronomical success with it.

  • Linked to diabetes and weight gain… no kidding? Considering that type 2 diabetics can only drink diet soda, or have to drink iced tea or water. You say “linked to” but that doesn’t say causal. Moreover, for people at risk of diabetes who don’t drink carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) regularly, sugar-free ones are the better option to HFCS in CSDs.
Before you tell people to “choose X, Y, or Z” instead, why don’t you make sure restaurants offer those. Check your privilege!

  • Well this explains why I’m not losing weight, damn. So am I fucked cause I have literally been chugging this shit everyday last month.

  • When I was at my athletic peak and leanest, I was shredded at 7 percent bodyfat. I ate no sugar, but drank many diet cokes in a day and drank a litre of non sweeted soy milk that I put 4 sachets of aspartame into. My “microbiome” was just fine.

  • Here’s an alternative perspective for why diet sodas work… Aspertame is similar to phenylalanine which functions as a neurotransmitter (it’s an essential nutrient amino acid), and can be supplemented by itself for it’s antidepressant and analgesic effects. I’ve read fake sugars will also trigger insulin and insulin is required to transport certain things up into the brain. Mix this sweet tasting neurotransmitter precursor (aspertame) with the brain uptake initiated by insulin through consumption of the actificial sweetner (acesulfame potassium) and you’re essentially filling in the void of this amino acid that you’d normally get through eating enough protein… Except the amount of diet sodas you’d have to drink to get the equivalent of a couple phenylalanine capsules will be higher.
With this said, I wonder if sugar free gum like trident would work. I don’t drink diet sodas.. not sure why, just never have… But sugar free gum sure has a certain mental effect to it.
Another comment also mentioned low potassium when he stops drinking diet sodas. This could be because of insulins effect of retaining certain electrolytes lost through urine versus losing them on the absence of elevated insulin levels, and artificial sweeteners, just like real sugar, trigger insulin release (but there is no energy(sugar) to be put into the cell in the case of the artificial sweetener)…. No expert on this, but collection of info I’ve come across.

  • I have been using organic blue agave syrup for over a year. The other day I was all out and I used cane sugar instead. I had to spit it out as soon as it hit my pallet. The after taste was a lot like all of those disgusting artificial sweeteners that I never liked.

  • All experts out there, listen in 100 christmases we are all dead no matter how many diet cokes you refused in your life. Cheers

  • This season I have been incorporating diet soda and it has helped with the cravings. I used to think that it would bloat me but if I keep it consistent I don’t bloat at all. I only bloat when I stop drinking them and then incorporate them back in. I love the sweetness of them!

  • All I know is my mother stopped drinking Diet Pepsi when she was pregnant with me, but did with my siblings and I’m the one who ended up somewhat autistic.

  • I’m addicted to diet soda!!!! And I love it….. whenever I’m hungry I pop a coke. I lost tremendous weight with this miraculous drink.

  • Informative! I was actually afraid to listen because there are so many people out there who are against artificial sweeteners. I, personally, look forward to one diet coke a day and do my best to balance my nutrition via macros.

  • Just to mention again, aspartame gets metabolized in the gut as a moves through the intestines to methanol and finally in the large intestine into formaldehyde.

  • I probably have to watch the full podcast to find out if she explains what a microbiome is….she uses that word A LOT in this short extract, so it’s probably important:)

  • I have type 2, and I try to avoid ANY soda, although diet soda is what I drink when I do have one. The best thing to drink in water and it is and can be bland, there are flavored waters, that are amazing. Great study results.

  • 5:20: “I had gut issues because of stress from school, probiotics helped me”. When you feel you are sick and you have a feeling what the diagnosis is, then you feel what the treatment should be, finally you feel you are cured.

  • “Diet” is just a marketing deception/lie that clearly has worked on fooling majority people. It’s “sugar free” drink not “diet”, no correlation. I’m surprised but not surprised government agencies haven’t put the hammer on these big companies. Put simply they have too much money and power.

  • The only good thing about diet sodas is when consumed with alcohol they make you get drunk faster. Other than that, just enjoy the real thing instead of a half OK subsitute

  • How do you know if you’re having too much artificial sweeteners? Also have you found any negative effects of diet sodas on your teeth because of the acidity?

  • All I know is my mother stopped drinking Diet Pepsi when she was pregnant with me, but did with my siblings and I’m the one who ended up somewhat autistic.

  • I probably have 3 or 4 diet dews a day. I feel it helped me in my weight loss journey. Cut back on calories I was drinking. Now a regular soda is nasty. I have sweet n low in my coffee in the mornings as well. I’ll keep it up.

  • Fantastic video on this topic. I’ve been drinking diet soda as part of my IF routine and find it helps with carb cravings a lot. I get way hungrier when I drink water instead. I think it also helps that most diet soft drinks have a little salt in them. Satiates thirst and helps retain fluids better.

Funny thing is everyone, no matter how out of shape they are, criticizes me for drinking diet sodas. Just like they criticize my keto diet. I’m strong and lean. Meanwhile they are 25% body fat, can’t do a push up. Oh the irony.

  • From my won experience, I drink pepsi zero everyday and I have already lost 25kg. My previous wait was 90, now I’m 65kg. • Regarding the rodent study, is that the only study that is worth mentioning when it comes to gut health and artificial sweeteners? And what type of sweeteners did they test then?

  • I find it odd that nobody mentions the effect artificial sweeteners have on insulin levels. With increased insulin levels, our insulin resistance rises (causing weight gain in the long run) and our fat storage increases (as opposed to fat burning). This probably factors into weight gain more than the theory that artificial sweeteners make us eat more. I used to drink quite a lot of diet soda. However, I don’t feel like for me there was much of a difference in the amount of food I ate once I quit drinking diet soda.

  • Diet Mtn Dew is my problem. I’m not ready to give it up. I drink a 20 oz 4-5 days a week. I lost 54 lbs drinking 2 bottles a day then

  • Opposite for me. I can’t stop drinking them once I start. I end up drinking 8 or more coke zeros in a day. They’re super addictive for me. I would get crazy headaches when I stopped drinking them that would last 2 to 3 weeks.

It reminded me of people with cigarettes who were trying to quit. I would say things like “this is the last case of pop I’m going to buy…. after this no more…”

  • Alright, so the people who drink diet soda tend to weigh more…. maybe they drink diet soda because of that so they are trying to lose weight? The diet soda by itself doesn’t make you gain more weight. It doesn’t put a gun to your head and say “Eat more sugary food”. Here’s an idea if you’re thinking about eating something sweet when you know you shouldn’t….. don’t.

  • Sweeteners are calorie free!!!! They cannot cause weight gain(body fat) but due to the water weight they will be slightly heavier, immediately, maybe that causes a surge in blood glucose?? Neurological reaction to sudden increase in weight? It isn’t an increase in weight from full or new fat cells though….Silly amateurish test!!!!!

  • I froze the video at 8 seconds. Diet soda messed up my diet for YEARS. I hope you’re going to give the big D Soda the big thumbs down, because it’s horrible for bodybuilders. It created, for me, a whole host of unnatural cravings for sugar and processed foods of all sorts. Not just cookies and ice cream, but crackers, refined wheat bread, chips, sour cream, and mayonnaise. It made staying on my healthy eating pattern impossible. The taste buds are attached to the brain, and the brain does not like to be fooled this way. When I gave up diet soda…I lost desire for all sodas. My unnatural food cravings then went bye bye. Thanks for the video. I’ll restart it now….

  • Diet soda cannot cause diabetes. Diabetes is only caused by obesity, old age, or the fact that their pancreas can’t produce insulin anymore.

  • She seems like she’s going to say something interesting but then she just wants to show you all the studies she’s read about without actually talking about them.
