  • You didn’t mention the benefits of ingesting fewer somatic (white blood, or sometimes referred to as pus) cells by reducing the volume. On average, UK milk contains 200,000 cells/ml. I’ll take mine black thanks!

  • Semi skimmed and skimmed milk are processed so cannot be good for you. No cow on Earth produces these types of milk so not natural. As always, portion size counts.

  • As a pescetarian bodybuilder, I find no issue in consuming skim milk for pre or post workout. There is more protein per serving as well. I doubt any of these studies have any tangible merit. Ask these folks if they go to McDonalds or not…

  • Full-fat dairy has been comprehensively proven by recent studies to be correlated with reduced body weight compared with low-fat dairy. Moreover, the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K require fat in milk for them to be absorbed in the body. Saturated fat DOESN’T cause heart disease, so no need to worry about that either.

  • In America we have whole, 2%, 1%, and skim.

  • Cow’s milk isn’t designed for humans but nursing calves. Humans should drink human milk from their mother when infants and cows should drink milk from their mother when infants. It isn’t rocket science but the world still doesn’t get it.

    The best way to be lean and healthy is to adopt a whole food plant based lifestyle and get regular exercise and sleep. Aside from that, great video and information.

  • Nice video. I’ve always noticed a difference in terms of flavour between the milks but never really thought about how different the darkness of the coffee would be. Red top milk really is like adding more water to your cup. I’ve been using Alpro soy unsweetened milk for quite some time now. I thought I’d give it a go and you know what. I’d go as far as saying it tastes better than cows milk and I believe it’s healthier for you? You should give it a go! There’s a sweetened version if that’s more to your liking. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I still drink cows milk when out and about as not everywhere has soy milk but I really notice a difference and can’t wait to have a cuppa with soy milk! Side note: I also tried almond milk and that seems on par with red top milk so wouldn’t recommend, but it tastes fantastic with cereal!

  • I take whole milk, too. I drank my coffee black for a decade until I I had coffee and beignets at the Cafe du Monde and they gave me my coffee au lait without even asking. I guess that’s just how you get coffee in New Orleans. But I never looked back.
    Half-n-half for real luxury, though. Kinda surprised you don’t even consider it.

  • Hi Jake, been watching your vids for some time but not commented until today. As soon as I saw the Fray Bentos tin in the cupboard I couldn’t resist it. You have to do a vid on the pie!! And maybe some other tinned or convenience meal products for comparison. Even though processed foods are not good for us long term, the odd convenience meal is a must have in our hectic society. I’m a reasonably healthy person but love the occasional indulgence of something really bad for me. Must be an English thing

  • As coffee is a ‘creamy’ beverage then yes… if you only have milk, the creamier the better, better still cream as it suits the flavour. But, we are British and we drink tea, which is not creamy, so semi skimmed in your tea please. Fray Bentos!? You are really letting the side down there Jakey!

  • Good comparison and experiment.. I can’t say one way or another because I don’t like sugar or milk/cream in my coffee.. I just drink it black but I think I should invest in a coffee bean grinder. I just use folgers in my drip coffee maker.

  • Dr. Jake, here is some coffee advice that will change your life: heavy whipping cream instead of milk, evap, etc. Yes, thats correct, HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM. This is liquid cream that has not been converted to whip cream (cool whip) yet. It has to be HEAVY whipping cream. Regular whipping cream is not the same. Try it. Just try it. You will thank me. PSmy girlfriend just informed me that ‘across the pond’ it may be referred to as double cream.

  • When I started as a milkman in 1972, the only skimmed milk you could buy was “sterilised’, and semi skim milk was unheard of
    I think fresh skimmed and semi skimmed milk was introduced around the late eighties, and within 6 years had overtaken sales of full cream milk on my particular round
    I still purchase both as I love creamy coffee, I sometimes use evaporated milk, but have had to cut down a bit now due to putting on weight since retiring

  • Whole milk is way healthier than skimmed! Skimmed milk is merely a waste product of the dairy industry. In the late-1920s, it used to be discharged into rivers but was cleverly marketed as a so-called health food. We’ve recently found oiut that saturated fat is essential to the body, not just for building healthy cells but also for the absorption of fat soluble nutrients in dairy products like milk.

  • 2% subtracts fat, but adds filler and sweeteners to make up for the watered down taste…which makes you fat. Whole milk is far superior.

  • Actually 18% cream is the yummiest. Failing that 10% also known as half and half. If you are only having 1-2 coffees a day that amount of fat isn’t an issue.

  • Is there a good alternative to mayonaise. That stuff is packed with calories, but it’s so good in tuna salad and with other fish.

Nothing’s better. Fyi, here in Nova Scotia, we can get milk in plastic bags. You need a special reusable container to put the bags in. Also, I prefer 2% milk.

  • I’d gotten used to half a liter of whole milk with two liters of tea with just a bit of sugar per day in the office. Now that I’m retired I don’t drink as much tea anymore, but coffee only occasionally.

  • Too much researches and opinion causes ppl to believe either findings. The best way to find out is experimenting your ownself. I did mine 3 mths of low fat milk consumption, the switch to full cream milk for the othe 3 mths. I lost more weight with full cream milk. The lesson here is that we individusls have different sets of metabolism and body works. And milk that does give you sugar is not true. And cholesterol is not the factor for cardiovascular disease or heart attack. In my opinion, everything you consume shall be in moderation.   • Milk has been scientifically proven to be neutral: don’t hurt, but don’t do much either, except from the healthy fat in it. The richer the better. Any skimmed milk is a scam. Go natural!

  • Can’t stand coffee myself but this was interesting as I have used semi-skimmed in my tea for years, now thinking I should go back to whole milk.   • I switched from whole milk to semi-skimmed literally years ago, in fact, so long ago I can’t remember exactly when. I could never go back, it would taste far too fatty for my tastes. And that’s the point isn’t it? A matter of taste.

  • This really angers me because, as you say, you use twice as much of it anyway(semi-skimmed).
    Also if you drink a whole pint of milk/day, in theory you save 17g of fat which is just over half an ounce, nothing.(Who drinks a pint/day anyway?)
    +nearly all of the vitamins and minerals are in the fat so you lose half of the goodness.
    AND the dairy companies charge the same for both products and sell the extracted fat to cake makers etc.
    Just a massive money-making con which the masses fall for.

  • You should always clean the grinder regularly, as it becomes blunt it tears the bean instead of cutting it, thus releasing the oil from the bean onto the blades, which subsequently ends up rancid and gives the coffee a nasty taste. A clean sharp grinder is a happy grinder:-) some blades in auto/semi Auto machines never get cleaned. Great video again….keep up the good work chappie!

  • When considering eating healthy, you have to never fall victim to modern fad diets. Extreme diets are a risk for your health, especially ones that seriously restrict your every day nutritional intake. Many of these fad diet plans work for a short time period and then the benefits decrease after a while. It is best to look up Custokebon Secrets on google as it is not just another fad diet where you starve yourself.

  • I think your test is flawed. Just by using different coloured mugs, this will affect ones perception of taste and smell. You should of tried the low fat coffee first. When you tried the stronger coffee and then the weaker coffee, you already had a perception that it would be weaker. Very amusing to use an alcohol measure. Alcohol coffees were big in the 80s, are they still a thing? You could be adventurous and do this outside with members of the public… dressed in hazmat suit and full face mask with goggles… hilarious.������

  • Don’t forget that it is the micronutrients that help digest the macronutrients not other macronutrients. Fats do not help you digest Protein, Vitamins and minerals do. This is why the whole food is better as it also contains the micronutients. Great work helping people you give great tips.

  • Whole RAW MILK! Pasteurized milk is USELESS, it has no nutritional value at all. If you can get fresh whole RAW milk you are going to be much better off. In fact, you can survive on it alone indefinitely it’s so loaded with nutrients.
