Low-fat milk is milk with fat content of about 1.5 to two percent, while skim milk is milk with no fat content. Both types of milk are heavily processed to remove the fat, so most of the content is water and additives. During this process, the milk also loses a lot of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, so these kinds of milk are often fortified. “The recommendation is unflavoured, full fat milk, yoghurt and cheese are an option, but for people who have high cholesterol or you have heart disease, we recommend low fat products,” she said. F or years you’ve been told to go for skim over full-fat dairy.

Even the latest dietary guidelines for Americans urge people to avoid the full fat, and. There may be some circumstances where skim milk is the best choice, but for most people, whole milk offers clear nutritional advantages over skim and low-fat milk. Drinking whole milk on a.

Which is Healthier: Skim, Low-Fat or Full-Fat Milk. For decades, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans have advised us to choose low-fat and fat-free dairy products because they are lower in calories and saturated fat than full-fat dairy products. Whole milk contains the highest amount of fat, with around 3.25 percent milk fat.

Meanwhile, low-fat and skim milk are each produced by removing a portion of the fat from whole milk, resulting in a final product that is lower in total fat and calories. Skim milk, also called nonfat milk, is a type of milk that typically contains 0.5 percent milk fat. Skim milk and fat-free, flavored yogurts aren’t just unsatisfying and, in the case of fat-free yogurt, often full of added sugars, though—they also deprive us of the health benefits of full-fat. When it comes to dairy products, you’ll be spoilt for choice; there is skim milk, low-fat milk, full-fat milk and an array of other products.

For long, we believed that taking low-fat milk. One cup of non-fat milk has about 90 calories and 0 grams of fat. A cop of whole milk has about 145 calories and 8 grams of fat. All other essential nutrients—calcium, potassium, vitamin D and.

At around 4 per cent fat, even whole milk is still a relatively low-fat food and I don’t see much point in skimmed or semi-skimmed milks, where, for the sake of losing a few calories, you also lose flavour, body and a small dose of fat-soluble vitamins.

  • You didn’t mention the benefits of ingesting fewer somatic (white blood, or sometimes referred to as pus) cells by reducing the volume. On average, UK milk contains 200,000 cells/ml. I’ll take mine black thanks!

  • Semi skimmed and skimmed milk are processed so cannot be good for you. No cow on Earth produces these types of milk so not natural. As always, portion size counts.

  • even I bought into some pseudoscience to give up milk & so I became vegan for many years??

Milk is gods arrangement to feed the baby and only from its mother and only till it grows teeth..its so simple.why do you wanna steal someone elses share?
why u wanna rope or cage someone
its rightful owner is the calf not you or me…
do u need a study for that???
Its so sad you quit veganism, you hit the top and slid, maybe you are just playing for the crowd and your book because you know….veganism isnt accepted well.
You know that we are a handful 3% in the world..at least Im proud to be one…
    I always say..i finally arrived.

  • As a pescetarian bodybuilder, I find no issue in consuming skim milk for pre or post workout. There is more protein per serving as well. I doubt any of these studies have any tangible merit. Ask these folks if they go to McDonalds or not…

  • Full-fat dairy has been comprehensively proven by recent studies to be correlated with reduced body weight compared with low-fat dairy. Moreover, the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K require fat in milk for them to be absorbed in the body. Saturated fat DOESN’T cause heart disease, so no need to worry about that either.

  • In America we have whole, 2%, 1%, and skim.
I worked for a dairy delivering milk to stores at my last job.
Milk is the thing that actually ruined my knee…. the stuff is slippery and I tore my meniscus in two places.

  • Cow’s milk isn’t designed for humans but nursing calves. Humans should drink human milk from their mother when infants and cows should drink milk from their mother when infants. It isn’t rocket science but the world still doesn’t get it.

The best way to be lean and healthy is to adopt a whole food plant based lifestyle and get regular exercise and sleep. Aside from that, great video and information.

  • Nice video. I’ve always noticed a difference in terms of flavour between the milks but never really thought about how different the darkness of the coffee would be. Red top milk really is like adding more water to your cup. I’ve been using Alpro soy unsweetened milk for quite some time now. I thought I’d give it a go and you know what. I’d go as far as saying it tastes better than cows milk and I believe it’s healthier for you? You should give it a go! There’s a sweetened version if that’s more to your liking. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I still drink cows milk when out and about as not everywhere has soy milk but I really notice a difference and can’t wait to have a cuppa with soy milk! Side note: I also tried almond milk and that seems on par with red top milk so wouldn’t recommend, but it tastes fantastic with cereal!

  • In America we have skim milk. Whole/2%/1%/fat free skim…..I’ve only ever called it skim tho. But every state and region labels things differently soooooo midwest calls it skim.

  • Any one tried the Custokebon Secrets (do a google search)? We have heard many amazing things about this popular lose weight diet plan.

  • I learn more on this channel then I ever have anywhere else. More and more we subs are blessed. 7 years and a 100+ videos later. Corrina still looks as good as ever!

  • Hills bros. Cappuccino English toffee flavour is the best coffee in the whole world you can also add it to regular coffee for a twist!! — worth trying for those who haven’t

  • I take whole milk, too. I drank my coffee black for a decade until I I had coffee and beignets at the Cafe du Monde and they gave me my coffee au lait without even asking. I guess that’s just how you get coffee in New Orleans. But I never looked back.
Half-n-half for real luxury, though. Kinda surprised you don’t even consider it.

  • This is quite an underrated video (given the view count). But it effectively debunks most of the myths around diary products. Thank you!

  • Hi Jake, been watching your vids for some time but not commented until today. As soon as I saw the Fray Bentos tin in the cupboard I couldn’t resist it. You have to do a vid on the pie!! And maybe some other tinned or convenience meal products for comparison. Even though processed foods are not good for us long term, the odd convenience meal is a must have in our hectic society. I’m a reasonably healthy person but love the occasional indulgence of something really bad for me. Must be an English thing

  • As coffee is a ‘creamy’ beverage then yes… if you only have milk, the creamier the better, better still cream as it suits the flavour. But, we are British and we drink tea, which is not creamy, so semi skimmed in your tea please. Fray Bentos!? You are really letting the side down there Jakey!

  • Do you have half and half we have it in the USA I think that tastes horrible.❓I actually just might be able to drink your kind of coffee ☕️….. Because you see I don’t drink coffee ☕️. But the smell is astounding almost hypnotic‼️

  • Good comparison and experiment.. I can’t say one way or another because I don’t like sugar or milk/cream in my coffee.. I just drink it black but I think I should invest in a coffee bean grinder. I just use folgers in my drip coffee maker.

  • Dr. Jake, here is some coffee advice that will change your life: heavy whipping cream instead of milk, evap, etc. Yes, thats correct, HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM. This is liquid cream that has not been converted to whip cream (cool whip) yet. It has to be HEAVY whipping cream. Regular whipping cream is not the same. Try it. Just try it. You will thank me. PSmy girlfriend just informed me that ‘across the pond’ it may be referred to as double cream.

  • When I started as a milkman in 1972, the only skimmed milk you could buy was “sterilised’, and semi skim milk was unheard of
I think fresh skimmed and semi skimmed milk was introduced around the late eighties, and within 6 years had overtaken sales of full cream milk on my particular round
I still purchase both as I love creamy coffee, I sometimes use evaporated milk, but have had to cut down a bit now due to putting on weight since retiring

  • This is very interesting, I was just researching “WHO” makes whole milk string cheese sticks, and for the same reasons, content. Keto diet. Keep up the good work. I thought this was a coffee whil watching the 300 gallon fish tank fill, wrong again….

  • Any one tested out the Custokebon Secrets (just google search it)? We have noticed numerous awesome things about this popular diet plan program.

  • Whole milk is way healthier than skimmed! Skimmed milk is merely a waste product of the dairy industry. In the late-1920s, it used to be discharged into rivers but was cleverly marketed as a so-called health food. We’ve recently found oiut that saturated fat is essential to the body, not just for building healthy cells but also for the absorption of fat soluble nutrients in dairy products like milk.

  • 2% subtracts fat, but adds filler and sweeteners to make up for the watered down taste…which makes you fat. Whole milk is far superior.

  • Actually 18% cream is the yummiest. Failing that 10% also known as half and half. If you are only having 1-2 coffees a day that amount of fat isn’t an issue.

  • Is there a good alternative to mayonaise. That stuff is packed with calories, but it’s so good in tuna salad and with other fish.

  • A great/subtle sense of humour. (Note, in Canada we put the ‘u’ in ‘humour’ as well). Like my Texan friend, (previous post) I too lived on a farm with cow’s milk. It is ‘real’ milk. Nothing’s better. Fyi, here in Nova Scotia, we can get milk in plastic bags. You need a special reusable container to put the bags in. Also, I prefer 2% milk.

  • The U.S. government are later this year to do away with the whole saturated fat is bad myth from the 1970s. Fat is necessary and healthy.

  • So amusing that you worry about diluting the “coffee taste” whilst spooning sugar into a drink that is meant to have a bitter quality.

  • Any one tried the Custokebon Secrets (do a search on google)? I have noticed many awesome things about this popular lose weight secrets.

  • Thanks Jake, that was good. I usually drink my coffee black, unless I go to Starbucks, and then I’ll probably have a latte, as you do.

  • Good strong coffee with cream. Great Video! Fat is necessary in the diet. Getting the daily required amount in your coffee is the only way to go! Well done! I think you are saving lives here. You clearly make a marvelous cup of coffee.

  • I’d gotten used to half a liter of whole milk with two liters of tea with just a bit of sugar per day in the office. Now that I’m retired I don’t drink as much tea anymore, but coffee only occasionally.

  • Hello there! Have you missed your old mum? Tee hee. ☺️ I moved from Northern America to southern so been rather busy. It’s a balmy 75 degrees today.
Sorry I cannot support the knowledge you are sharing in this video because all three ingredients are bad for your health. I recommend you give up tea and coffee and drink pure water. Your nervous system and digestive system will be stronger and you will be much richer.

  • What are you doing man! First clockwise then anti clockwise! Where is the consistency with your stirring! Coffee tastes are massively affected by the coriolis effect! Not only that but you need to add more milk at night because of the tidal influence of the moon. And on Fridays. FACT.

  • People only came up with 2% and low-fat milk as a way for Farmers to make more profit. I figured this crap out when I was a kindergarten. I’m surprised no one you can saw through that. What makes more money milk with water added to it that still tastes like milk? Or just milk?

  • Hello Mann Sir…there is a lot of confusion among people in Indian Households about boiling pasteurised milk. Please make some video on whether packed pasteurised milk should be boiled or it is fit for consumption right away

  • Too much researches and opinion causes ppl to believe either findings. The best way to find out is experimenting your ownself. I did mine 3 mths of low fat milk consumption, the switch to full cream milk for the othe 3 mths. I lost more weight with full cream milk. The lesson here is that we individusls have different sets of metabolism and body works. And milk that does give you sugar is not true. And cholesterol is not the factor for cardiovascular disease or heart attack. In my opinion, everything you consume shall be in moderation. Doctor Anu, you got mythic points labelled, and i have to agree. Any great pointers and keep it up. Nice video

  • My wife buys ‘filtered’ milk, whatever that is!… I have to agree, coffee is much better with cream. When I go to The Netherlands, I always have it with cream, it is the way they do things over there.

  • Milk has been scientifically proven to be neutral: don’t hurt, but don’t do much either, except from the healthy fat in it. The richer the better. Any skimmed milk is a scam. Go natural!

  • Can’t stand coffee myself but this was interesting as I have used semi-skimmed in my tea for years, now thinking I should go back to whole milk. By the by a bit shocked to see a Frey Bentos pie in your cupboard, doesn’t seem like a Dr Jake consumable at all. Presumably this is only there in case of nuclear war or some other similar world ending event?

  • Bhai dhoodh se Kefir bana lo agar dhoodh nahi pachta hai to.. Lactose almost 99% nikal jati hai aur 1 cup kefir se protein bhi 12g mil jayega vo bhi predigested. Easy for gut. Probiotic supplement lene ki bhi jaroorat nahi. Kefir ke ek chammach me 150 billions CFU se bhi jyada rehte hai.. 1-2 cup roz piyo..Mast raho.

  • Thank you for this video, Katherine. I completely agree. Poor science and research led us to the low fat craze which has been detrimental to our health. Great advice. Lindy Ford, RD, LDN

  • I switched from whole milk to semi-skimmed literally years ago, in fact, so long ago I can’t remember exactly when. I could never go back, it would taste far too fatty for my tastes. And that’s the point isn’t it? A matter of taste.

  • This really angers me because, as you say, you use twice as much of it anyway(semi-skimmed).
Also if you drink a whole pint of milk/day, in theory you save 17g of fat which is just over half an ounce, nothing.(Who drinks a pint/day anyway?)
+nearly all of the vitamins and minerals are in the fat so you lose half of the goodness.
AND the dairy companies charge the same for both products and sell the extracted fat to cake makers etc.
Just a massive money-making con which the masses fall for.

  • You should always clean the grinder regularly, as it becomes blunt it tears the bean instead of cutting it, thus releasing the oil from the bean onto the blades, which subsequently ends up rancid and gives the coffee a nasty taste. A clean sharp grinder is a happy grinder:-) some blades in auto/semi Auto machines never get cleaned. Great video again….keep up the good work chappie!

  • Can we have another scientist peer review this ‘controlled’ experiment. Thanks Dr Jake, you convinced me to try full milk next time instead of low-fat.

  • When considering eating healthy, you have to never fall victim to modern fad diets. Extreme diets are a risk for your health, especially ones that seriously restrict your every day nutritional intake. Many of these fad diet plans work for a short time period and then the benefits decrease after a while. It is best to look up Custokebon Secrets on google as it is not just another fad diet where you starve yourself.

  • I think your test is flawed. Just by using different coloured mugs, this will affect ones perception of taste and smell. You should of tried the low fat coffee first. When you tried the stronger coffee and then the weaker coffee, you already had a perception that it would be weaker. Very amusing to use an alcohol measure. Alcohol coffees were big in the 80s, are they still a thing? You could be adventurous and do this outside with members of the public… dressed in hazmat suit and full face mask with goggles… hilarious.

  • Animal’s milk is for their babies not for humans, It’s common sense I guess nor It is healthful for us. There are mountains of studies linking diary and chronic diseases such as Heart Disease, Cancer, Stroke, etc. There are more than 60 hormones present in Cow’s milk plus 350 Million Pus Cells per litre which means each glass of milk has around an eye dropper full of pus. Our bodies are not capable not digesting Animal Protein, For example, When blood and tissues become acidic with animal protein, the body withdraws calcium phosphate from the bones and uses the alkaline mineral phosphate to keep the Ph levels of blood and tissue balanced. The calcium is then excreted through our urine which could ultimately contribute to making her bones weak which is the opposite for your purpose of consuming milk i.e. Calcium. Vegan diet has been proven to prevent and even reverse all the chronic diseases, Have you ever heard of a lion dying of heart attack? No, because they know what they should eat and how they should live. We humans have 98% DNA similar to Gorillas which were absolute vegans except eating some insects. Please truly educate yourself about diet and lifestyle choices, Some quick recommendation for books: How Not To Die & The China Study.

  • how in the world is whole milk bad for us lol that makes no sense what so ever, the baby calves from the cows are laughing at us as we speak lol its how milk suppose to be geshh stop trying to change the way milk suppose to be. if your worried about your wieight while drinking whole milk than just dont consume so much and also exercise and stop looking for an easy way. no laziesssss.

  • Hello Mam,
Can you make a Video on nutrition difference between cooked and raw Vegetables.
Also meats, does it reduce the protein after we cook?
How to calculate the macros if we are cooking, does it affect the nutrition value if we cook

  • I am SO glad I found your channel. Your videos are the perfect mix of humour and education brilliant. Thank you Dr Jake for your very British reviews! Have you thought of doing a hot beverage series? Best black tea? Nesquik vs Ovaltine vs Horlicks?

  • Your content matches a lot of what I would call “unintentional ASMR”, which I love. There is a calmness and genuine nature represented in your videos!

  • Don’t forget that it is the micronutrients that help digest the macronutrients not other macronutrients. Fats do not help you digest Protein, Vitamins and minerals do. This is why the whole food is better as it also contains the micronutients. Great work helping people you give great tips.

  • switching 4 years ago from canola to coconut oil as well as in combination with grass fed cow butter has made me so much healthier more than ever! Longtime time fan Corrina props!

  • Whole RAW MILK! Pasteurized milk is USELESS, it has no nutritional value at all. If you can get fresh whole RAW milk you are going to be much better off. In fact, you can survive on it alone indefinitely it’s so loaded with nutrients.

  • This has to be said. The video quality is 100% better than what it was 7 years ago! An im staying away from Dairy entirely. That stuff tears my body apart.

  • I worked for Bell Dairy Products in Lubbock Texas. there was a trade magazine with an advertisement for a lubricating grease that had no taste or color. drink up kiddies
