According to Merriam-Webster, the definition for a superfood is any food that is nutritionally dense in nutrients considered beneficial for health — such as blueberries, kale and açaí. Most of these foods are plant-based, but some fish and dairy products also qualify. Buzzwords like “vegan,” “gluten-free,” “organic,” “natural,” “healthy,” “sugar-free,” and “raw” can really trip us up. While these words can (and often do) signal a healthier choice, they can fool us, too. A vegan, gluten-free, organic potato chip is still a potato chip.

Remember that thesebuzzwords don’t automatically make it a healthy choice. What Are Superfoods? By definition, a superfood is a food with extraordinary health benefits. Typically these are foods high in antioxidants, healthy fats, fiber, protein, probiotics or phytonutrients. The term superfood is not an official scientific or nutritional term.

While many superfoods are indeed nutritious, “superfood” is often a marketing buzzword used to motivate consumers to buy products. “Superfood” has been a popular buzzword in nutritional supplement circles. Foods like blueberries, avocados, quinoa, acai berries, and spinach have all received the moniker superfood as they are said to contain above-average concentrations of healthy nutrients.

A few things here though. ‘Superfood’: Useful Category or Buzzword? ‘Superfood’ is a term that gets thrown around a lot these days. What does it mean, really, though? When you hear ‘superfood’, you probably think of things like acai berries, wild salmon oil, wheat grass and blue-green algae.

Superfoods have been a major buzzword in the beauty and wellness field for a few years now, but how beneficial can they really be? Well, take it. The Worst Nutrition Buzzwords. Superfood. Ah yes, the myth of the cure-all super hero head of kale – AKA one of the greatest marketing schemes of modern times. Sure, most of these goods are healthy, maybe even super healthy, but “superfood” implies that they are ‘magic bullets’ that will mystically fix everything.

The term ‘superfood’ is a real buzzword these days. You do and will continue to hear new superfoods being announced every day. They can be anything from green tea to yogurt to spinach. “Superfood” has become one of the biggest buzzwords in the health community over the last few years. Suddenly, it seems like everything is a superfood. Kale is a superfood.

Watermelon. Top Health Foods You Should Never Eat 1. Fruit Juice. Fruit juice is just as dangerous as soda, or nearly as bad, when you’re drinking it in abundance.Think of it in this way: When you sit down to drink an 8-ounce glass of orange juice, you’re consuming the juice of four medium-sized oranges in literally seconds — or a few minutes at the most.

While nutrient-content claims rely on consumers making their own connections between nutrient claims and perceived health outcomes—and are therefore limited by such commonly recognizable nutrient-health associations—functionally marketed foods open up a wider range of marketing possibilities for the food industry.

  • I love this video and am dying to try tropeaka but shipping fro AUS to the USA is so expensive. Do you have any brands sold in the US you recommend?

  • This guy is so cognitively sharp, no
one can deny how good all those healthy fats are, even just for your brain. Amazing interview

  • I can’t even imagine being able to have all the things from Tropeka together in my pantry! I can’t even do one thing of Lean Protein yet! I really like this company, and wish I could buy them all!

  • The coconut water doesnt mix by spoon because it is an oil. Its hydrophobic and it unable interact with water because water is polar

  • Just found your channel (hello from Alabama!), and I’ve been binge watching these all morning . It is so hard to find DF/GF protein powders that actually taste good. I’ve been using the Aloha Organic Chocolate Protein, but have been open to switching things up. I don’t have instagram, so I hate that I can’t enter the giveaway, but my husband and I are going to definitely been looking into these! Keep on keeping on, babe!

  • why in another video cloves are higher than cinnamon?
is purple cabbage really better than cloebs?
Are cloves toxic in large quantites?
how many cloves per day is safe?

  • What are your thoughts on Associations like AHA accepting money for the Health check, which is on things like Becel margarine, Footloops cereals etc? I realize it is American but I have heard many people say that they follow their recommendations.
Do you have any long-term studies on the safety of GMO’s to PROVE they are safe, as you would expect for any natural claim to have proven effects?
I agree that many promote things to make money, but as doctors don’t you get paid by seeing patients? Which means you need them to be unwell so that they return?
I think there are definitely pros and cons to both sides of the spectrum but the medical field and the alternative medicine field should be working together to provide preventive care and to keep people happy and healthy but it seems a lot of your posts are targeting the alternative health field.
Also, you ate the lemon, where many claims are that if you squeeze some fresh lemon juice into your morning water a few times a week it can help jumpstart your digestion, help keep you regular, as well assist your body in naturally ridding itself of toxins.

  • Am I the only one who hates the taste and texture of the Lean Protein in vanilla? I’ve been trying to make it work but I find that it’s just SO grainy in smoothies, I’ve even tried to dissolve it in water beforehand but I can’t handle the weird texture!

  • I dont understand why amla and acai are never mentioned together for a same grouping. Haritaki has even more ORAC value than amla.

  • I think I need to get some purple cabbage. I really the fact that it changes color according to PH. I want to try the urine PH test. But I didn’t realize how nutritious it is. So I will to get some to put in my pee and in my mouth.:)

  • Hey guys thanks for the content and info. Was wondering if you could look at the heath benifits, myths and facts about coconut, the oil, the water. I’m a fan but I’ve seen outrageous claims that I’d like to believe but I’m sure it doesn’t cure HIV or cancer. thx

  • Omg I love you!!! 5 years ago I weighed 415lbs and then I developed gastroparesis and the Drs said I had an eating disorder but ended up I had a severe ulcer and my stomach exploded… I have the hardest time with whey proteins.. and I must have proteins 1st.. I’m disabled and I can’t afford any of these.. any samples available? Your gorgeous and I love your channel.

  • After your live taste test of the ‘pineapple’ (wish it was) Tone BCAAS that will be in my next purchase haha xx Pls do more clothing haul videos and vlogs:) love you Sezzzzy

  • Hi does anyone know how many times per day this can be used? Is this once a day or can you safely use it twice a day? I can’t find any info on this thank you

  • You move waaaay too much In the video it’s hard to watch. But seems like a very informative video. Too bad I’m getting dizzy watching. Thanks though.

  • There is a Company which is is been there since 1903 they Have over 16 Products in the Physicians Desk Reference “PDR” this is the best Clinically proven SuperGreens by Unicity: https://unicity.link/9ffcf468b5

  • Do you really believe what the label says? Have you sent all those products to the lab to confirm what the label says? It would be very helpful information if you could show a proof that those products really have what the label says.

  • One thing i never understood is how can the probiotics be dry? I mean they are live cultures so how can they survive in a dry environment with on moisture.

  • This is one of my favourite videos, I’d love it if you could update it. I’m guessing your knowledge of antioxidant content per dollar would share newer info. Keep up the good work though.

  • I ate pretty healthy till 15 and then I ate basicly shit first 3 years. Then I started to eat healthy again, up to this day. Nothing happened to me, probably I had just luck that my metabolism is good at young age.

  • Why oh why isn’t every fitness site on youtube like this. Shirt on, no flexing, tons of information, valid and relevant information, and gets to the point right off with copious details as to why this or that matters. Thank you.

  • Super inspired with your VLOGS. Will be trying tropeaka products as I start my health and wellness journey. Hope to receive the products here in the Philippines soon!

  • Aric. So proud of you for making such an impact! Great channel and awesome content.
Isn’t it funny how all these buzz words seems to always carry a higher price tag…Definitely not a coincidence. Shame on these people pushing products on vulnerable people and making promises that don’t deliver. Proper nutrition and regular exercise is the only way. When are people going to start dodging the “magic bullet” instead of running towards it?

  • I realize that your fame started through Instagram, but not everyone has an Instagram. I started watching you on YouTube almost 2 years ago and I feel somewhat slighted that I don’t have a chance to win any of the giveaways because of the fact that I don’t have an Instagram. Can you please in the future do at least a few giveaways whose entries require only things through YouTube? After all, this is YouTube. I feel it’d be fair to do giveaways that require an Instagram account if you posted those giveaways only on Instagram, but as an OG subscriber, I’m a bit upset that I don’t even have a chance just because I don’t have an Instagram.

  • This is one of my favourite videos, I’d love it if you could update it. I’m guessing your knowledge of antioxidant content per dollar would share newer info. Keep up the good work though.

  • @sarahs_day I couldn’t wait ‍♀️ I ordered Açaí, Coconut Water, Ultra Cleanse, Maca, Matcha Tea and used your promo code. All of this plus shipping to the US for only $108!

  • You said Athletic Greens has more vitamins than “many of its competitors” hey you don’t have Amazing Grass multivitamin greens supplement on there to compare.

  • Can you taste the cinnamon and ginger in the lean protein powders or any other products that contain those 2 ingredients? I need to know before I purchase them as I really hate the taste of cinnamon and ginger

  • Could you make a new video about the new tropeaka products if you got the experience? I‘d love to learn more and hear your personal opinion on them

  • After lots of researched I worked out that the Tropeaka spirulina comes from China and containes pesticides and other toxics. I chucked away my bag and go for another brand…

  • Omg thank you so much for this opportunity! I hope i win I’ve been dying to try tropeka . I just had my first baby 6months ago and I’ve been super motivated to amp up my fitness routine so having these amazing products would help a ton. Love you sissy thank you for creating such an inspiring channel.

  • One thing i never understood is how can the probiotics be dry? I mean they are live cultures so how can they survive in a dry environment with on moisture.

  • Hello, my name is Edward Redmond and I am a professional trainer and a health blogger. During my fitness journey, I tried Patriot Power Greens & Athletic Greens. I have given my unbaised review on both of them on my blog… https://mygreensdaily.com/athletic-greens-review/

  • You said Athletic Greens has more vitamins than “many of its competitors” hey you don’t have Amazing Grass multivitamin greens supplement on there to compare.

  • I absolutely love the Smart Greens from Earth Genius GNC. It’s expensive but tastes the best of all I’ve tried (like berries!) and mixes flawlessly. It has all these ingredients I want, way beyond just greens, also includes adaptogen mushrooms like cordyceps & lionsmane.

  • In general, I look for ones that only have vegetables/spirulina/mushrooms.. little to NO (wheat/barley) grass.

However, so many of these powders get discontinued, my favorite was New Chapter’s Berry Green. Similarly, Solaray’s Very Berry, Lane Labs Daily Veggies, Shentrition, and SkyIsland Naturals Supremix were good, but no longer available.

Now, at least for the ones shown in the video, I like the Greens First BERRY (not the vegetable one). For strictly vegetable, I like Paleovalley Organic SuperGreens, NewGreens Classic SuperFood Drink, Dr. Cowan’s Garden, Greens To Go (Go Greens), 7 Essentials Dutch Chocolate, Trace Minerals Green Pak, Purity Triple Greens, Ortho Molecular Deeper Greens.

For fruit powders, there seems to be many more options… Purity Products Perfect Purples/Oranges/Reds, Food Science of Vermont Superior Purple/Reds, Greens First Berry, New Greens Berry Fusion, MacroLife Miracle Reds, Progressive Nutritional PhytoBerry, Trace Minerals Red Pak, Essential 7 Risotriene Berry,, Prolon from L-Nutra, and finally my favorite, CVS Kids Superfood Drink Mix / Feel Great 365’s Kids Superfood Shake Mocha Greens

Any thoughts on Fiber supplements? Gut Garden Resistant (potato) Starch Prebiotic Fiber Blend, Garden of Life Raw Fiber, SunSweet Naturals SupraFiber, Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein Hi-Fiber, Pure for Men (Chia Seed powder)?

  • Sarah my sweet sarah.. you have no idea how much you spread the positivity in my day.. sweetie you are a blessing to this world.. love you ♥️♥️♥️

  • @mittcleaver Yes, thank you so much for your comment. It is very difficult and frustrating for people with lower incomes, often even to just access fresh food. But you’re very right about cabbage being inexpensive! Here’s to spreading the word about the benefits!:)

  • is red cabbage sauerkraut like a health bomb? I’m interested in the benefit of fermented foods. I will have a hard time saying no to yogurts and kefir

  • How longed powders that you use every day last for you? Just wondering how long does one package lasts, if you use it every day. Thank you so much!

  • Do you really believe what the label says? Have you sent all those products to the lab to confirm what the label says? It would be very helpful information if you could show a proof that those products really have what the label says.

  • This was SUPER helpful to listen to each of the different types of products with Tropeaka! I just purchased the Lean Protein, Ultra Cleanse and Maca. I am so excited to try them!

No matter what you are going through you are always positive. I feel like whenever I watch your channel your amazing energy is transferred over to me and it always brightens my day. Thank you for being such an amazing person and sharing your life and story with us. Much love! Chelsea

  • I’m sorry but I really think the boost one taste like… shit. And this makes me really scared to buy anything else from there. I guess it’s good in a smoothie but most stuff are. Like it’s a protein powder so it should be drinkable with just water. It’s really hard to make a proteinsmoothie every time you want to use it. I tried to drink it with the aussie vanilla almond milk and it tastes a bit better but not good at all. Anyone got any tips?

  • Does anybody know a company like Tropeaka based in Europe? Cause I’m not sooo keen about the import duties…why does Australia have all these cool companies?! Hand some to us!! #jealous

  • Have you watched What the Health on Netflix? I would love to hear your thoughts regarding paleo v vegan.. I am neither at this stage but it is very interesting to watch

  • After your live taste test of the ‘pineapple’ (wish it was) Tone BCAAS that will be in my next purchase haha xx Pls do more clothing haul videos and vlogs:) love you Sezzzzy

  • Hey! Kinda new to all this ☺️
Do you have a video (or can you make one) explaining why we need all this stuff and when to take them? I’m so overwhelmed by all the products and what they do and although this video was helpful I’m still a little lost on what to get and when to use it etc.

Huge fan of your channel!! ❤️
