Drink plenty of fluids during your trip. If you can, choose water over other beverages while you’re in transit. Milk and juices are adequate, but avoid soda and an excess amount of alcoholic. Here are my top 10 tips on how to eat healthy while traveling. Focus on your veggies.

If you do one thing, this should be the thing. If you make an effort to eat your daily requirement of vegetables, you’ll Eat like the locals do. Try to only eat your calories. Limit your alcohol consumption.

Scout a healthy breakfast. Omelets and oatmeal are good go-tos. Many terminals have Starbucks, which offers an oatmeal with little added-sugar — that is, if you skip the brown sugar packet that. You can eat healthy while traveling if you avoid buffet items that are fried, drowning in sauce, or heavy in carbs.

Make a beeline to protein-packed items instead. Salad bars as great places to fill your plate with veggies, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses. Take advantage of the bountiful fresh fruit.

  • I think honey cuts the bitter in coffee better than sugar too.
    as you mention on raw foods, we cook them and prepare them for a reason, corn (for example ) very quickly converts it’s sugars to starch after being picked it needs to be cooked long enough to break the starch so that your body can access that energy.

  • I’m world traveller i am vegan and Gluten free I always stay in hotels and they ALWAYS have a kettle and a fridge at least and in Asia they have boiling water and cold water provided for FREE from the dispensers at the airports….. I also wrote a blog post last year about travelling and eating well.

  • Hi Hanns, I love your videos. Newly vegan. I worked at Wendy’s when I was in college and I did the potatoes. After scrubbing them, wrap them in aluminum foil and bake. Commercial ovens are very hot and potatoes are probably overcooked. They used Idaho creamy baking potatoes as well. Thanks for the tips. I will be getting those appliances too.

  • Dude, Butter can be healthy in moderation. High in fat soluble vitamins especially vitamin A which is different type more bio-available than plant based beta-carotene which has to be converted in the liver to vitamin A and 45% of people carry a genetic mutation that significantly reduces their ability to convert provitamin A into vitamin A.  I am oddly allergic to Olive Oil which restaurants tend to use when making Omelets so I ask them to cook my eggs in butter. But then again, I cannot give nutritional advice to you cause whatever you are doing is working for you.

I just want to acknowledge that I did not eat as much food as I normally do in this video like I mentioned, I lost three hours due to the time difference and actually went to bed before I would have been eating my dinner on the west coast. I ate enough food to keep me full and satisfied, and I wasn’t going to lie and say I ate more or less than I actually did. I obviously want everyone to listen to their OWN bodies and hunger cues and to eat whenever and whatever they want, as long as it’s vegan �� Your body knows you better than anyone else on the internet and as long as you do not have disordered eating habits it will tell you when it is hungry and full it all balances out in the end ☺ That being said, I ate way more than I normally would the day after I filmed this and that’s completely ok!   • Love your travel hacks….My travel “hack”…after watching some trucker videos…I bought (cheap) a HotLogic Mini…which is kind of like a hot plate in a collapsible insulated flat lunchbox. I also bring a cheap Tupperware type flat rectangular container. I can heat up leftovers in a hotel room that doesn’t have a microwave….I fill the container with leftovers or soup or anything I want warmed up…. change clothes, watch a little tv or read…and an hour later (time passes fast) I have a warm healthy meal. Lightweight and easy to travel with. I also travel with an mini iPot and hot water maker when I road trip.

We are not allowed to do so in France, even if it’s just a bottle of water, you have to throw it away when passing security and you can then buy a little something in the airport’s stores so you can’t make your own food an take it with you in your backpack haha

  • Actually, a safer option would be to just get hot water from a coffee place in the airport. Generally, airplane water quality is shit. They don’t filter it much and it’s got a lot of bad bacteria and such. If you still prefer to get the water on the flight, get a bottle of eater from the air hostess and make a cold oatmeal. Better than getting it hot and filled with bacteria.

  • usually I’ll get hot water for oats and tea from a coffee shop in the terminal, especially if you tip them the employees are always willing to give you hot water for free! I put my oats in a hydroflask thermos and by the time I open it up on the plane they are nice and soft the way i like them!

  • Love your travel tips! I was just on a trip where I met a flight attendant. She told me not to use the ice or hot water on the plane because it’s very dirty and moldy. She suggested getting hot water before getting on the plane. Also for water I find that the flight attendants don’t mind refilling my portal bottle with the complementary bottled water.

  • I did not know you could take food past the security point.  I usually put the green leafy veg on both breads before adding everything else, and that will keep the bread from getting soggy.

  • I read that you aren’t supposed to drink the water that they give you on airplanes unless it is bottled. Has to do with e coli. It’s why you don’t see flight attendants drinking their own coffee (they go to Starbuck’s).

  • I do like idea of making my own snacks ahead of time but I find taking blender,cinnamon,oats,almond milk and other ingredients bit odd to take for vacation.Vacations are about enjoying free time,to explore,eat out and not to be worrying about what to cook and prepare for meals in my hotel room.

  • This is perfect since I’m always traveling south to visit family at least once a month. We usually pack our alkaline water, non perishable fruits, oats, honey, teas and some other groceries but as you can see, that’s a lot and can be daunting at times. The mini blender is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

  • the eggs are not real. i use to work the breakfast time at a hotel. stick to the oatmeal packets and yogurt cuz the eggs we microwaved it.

  • difference between road trip and flying. missed getting fined by a thread when I flew to Australia. bring a banana and you’ll be treated as the most wanted as opposed to snuggling drug. basically. they don’t play with fresh food!

  • Drink lots of water & walk that’s what I do everyday. Especially since the weather is getting to spring time. I leave home early with a walking itinerary to include my favourite streets architecture or window shopping! I stay out until the late evening passing all the people stuffing their faces with food and alcohol. Leaving when gets dark I am either home or on transportation. I come home presently tied drink hot tea and then it’s bedtime catching my ‘You Tube’ favourite programs like yours! Goodnight..

  • I need to be this organized, when traveling! It’s usually the time for me to take a break from cooking so we tend to just go out to eat. We do like to go to local grocery store for fruits and veggies though and granola bars. Great video!

  • I just got back from a week in Florida!! It’s actually quite simple to stay healthy on vacation if you plan ahead:) also important to let yourself have fun though! Love all of these tips!

  • When you say they are “portioned out” for the nuts and veggies, are you just filling the snack bags until full and considering that a portion or are you physically measuring those foods before putting them into the bag?

  • I like the mini rice cooker tip. For long flights I ALWAYS take a big box of home made sushi for the flight. Super cheap and really easy to carry.

  • When you were eating more raw did you ever travel with a blender? It’s hard for me to get in enough greens without drinking them in a smoothie so I’d love any suggestions you might have for a good travel blender. Buying smoothies every day is too expensive & they don’t put in enough greens without charging extra.

  • Omg girl! You have no idea how much you just saved my ass! I’m about to travel soon and I’ve been worrying about wether or not there will be a fridge in the hotel room. And if there is, if it will be full of mini bar things that can’t be removed to fit food. I want to bring my own stuff to eat… maybe like a spinach salad with grains.. or Even like what you said about the subway salad with rice, that sounds good!   • Being honest, I have 110 kg now, but I never eat French fries or knedlíky (our traditional side dish).
    Many claim that I live unhealthy, but I love vegetables and fruit of all kinds and I wouldn’t be able to live normally without that.

    Food: (Breakfast): Fruit or Starbucks (I stopped getting Starbucks because of palm oil)
    (Lunch): Chipotle
    (Dinner): Chipotle
    Drink: Buy a water bottle (using plastic [which is bad]) or drink the drinks that are vegan on the flight
    Entertainment: Reading books
    Flown a plane many times so I know the drill to flying, plus I want to be an Air Traffic Control when I grow up.

  • Hahahaha some of the things I have done in hostels when I’ve only had a microwave… I’m sitting down with my full on meal and everyone’s there with their instant noodles and takeaways �� I don’t care if people think I’m nuts, I think most of the time people just think you’re really smart!

I also, out of curiosity have checked out your other job. Sex is amazing and an important part of health…we should be more open about sexual health, however, safe sex is a MUST.     The way to get brilliant baked potatoes is to bake them at 450F for about 75 minutes, then turn off the oven and leave the potatoes to sit in the oven for at least another 45 minutes. I’ll do it once a week and put them in the refrigerator to have whenever I want! I haven’t tried to steam them in my InstaPot yet, but will definitely figure it out. I’ll try to remember to share that with you when I figure it out.

  • Johnny, did you hear about “Kuf Drahrepus” bait in Polish politics. This bait is usually used to criticize PiS (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość eng. Law and Justice) by showing you while supporting political opposition. It is obviously used to bait some granny’s and grandpa’s, I think guys younger than 30 yr old wouldnt be fooled by that kind of bait. Imo it is one of the funniest baits in polish anti-government fanpages on facebook.

    The expo was a great addition����‍♀️. When we traveled as a family, my mum would have food prepared ahead and of course healthy options. Variety of fruit bagged or in containers. Sandwiches, Veggies, and sunflower seeds to take the hunger edge off. ������‍♀️Sorry but kool-aid was the easy drink to have ready made for us lol. She did her best. This vid will help so many out there that never really thought about what/where to eat while traveling. Your hotel food facts was a real eye opener for sure…..��
