The Effects of Natural Sugar vs. Refined Sugar in the Body

Although raw sugar may seem like a healthier option because it’s less processed, it has the same nutrient profile as its refined counterpart — both contain trace amounts of micronutrients and have the same number of calories, carbohydrates and sugar per teaspoon. “Some nutritionists believe that the small amount of micronutrients retained in Sugar In The Raw® provides advantages over refined white sugar.” Raw sugar is. Sugar and Sugar In The Raw are both simple, refined sugars.

Since sugar is essentially “empty calories” with the potential to cause weight gain and increase triglycerides, the American Heart. U nrefined and raw sugars are in fact, only slightly less refined than white sugars. All cane sugars go through a great deal of processing, but unrefined and raw sugars are much less processed than refined sugars. One sugar is not necessarily better than another.

Contrary to what you might think, this isn’t going to be a long post. We often hear people say, raw sugar is better than refined/processed sugar ”much healthier”, is the claim. Although problematic when consumed in excessive amounts, unrefined raw sugar is a better alternative to white sugar, since it retains minerals. USDA guidelines suggest limiting added sugars in any form so as not to displace nutrient-dense foods. Raw and unrefined sugar, on the other hand, still retains natural nutrients such as iron, magnesium, etc. and is therefore a better choice.

This natural granulated sugar is golden in. Unrefined raw sugar is by far the best choice because it is natural and it contains minerals and nutrients. These minerals and nutrients are stripped from refined white sugar and brown sugar. In addition, when sugar is refined and processed, potentially harmful ingredients are added to the sugar.

Lower in calories than honey. Sugar contains 49 calories per tablespoon, while honey has 64. However, honey is sweeter than sugar, so less may.

In the end, sugar in our body is still sugar. So while honey, raw sugar, date sugar and molasses are “better” than white and other types of sugar, everyone should try to.

Raw sugar is becoming increasingly popular as a product that is a bit more healthful, a little less processed than refined white sugar: A few vitamins and minerals adhere to the sugar crystals, and less energy is needed because it is not refined further.

There is no way to claim which sugar is best for you, because most nutritionists will say that regardless of whether it contains minerals or vitamins, during digestion all sugars break down into simple glucose, the basic body fuel, essential to the function of all cells.

  • What a fucking idiot.
You don’t add sugar to baking to make it sweet. You add it as a food source for the yeast to eat.
If you use half the amount in honey, then the bread won’t rise because there won’t be enough food for the yeast to eat.

  • Keto no, nos…I miss honey! Stevie is not good to me personally! SN: Are you taking new patients? I’m not too far in HSV, seriously Alabama healthcare is trash. Please help!

  • Dextrose is corn sugar manufactured from cornstarch per CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATION 21CFR184.1857; therefore, glucose (blood sugar) is not dextrose (corn sugar) and dextrose (corn sugar) is not glucose (blood sugar). They may be biochemically identical (Molecular Formula: C6H12O6)]; however, not with regard to their allergenicity; e.g., glucose (blood sugar) cannot provoke an allergic response, whereas dextrose (corn sugar manufactured from cornstarch) can prove fatal to anyone with an IgE-mediated allergy to corn. It is for this reason that IV fluids to which corn sugar (dextrose) has been added are contraindicated for administration to corn-allergic patients.

  • It’s not gonna get stored to fat if you already o your body the calories r.g a workout/body building or recovery days, obvs if you have reached your calorie intake then it will of course just like any other macro

  • *Could someone please explain to me why raw sugar is more expensive than highly processed, and refined sugar. Shouldn’t it not be cheaper to buy raw sugar since there isn’t as many inputs into producing it? No one has given me an explanation for this. Should it not be cheaper for raw, and unprocessed sugar*

  • What if I add sugar to my fruits to make them sweeter?:) Why would white sugar be bad in this case? It is still energy (glucose and fructose) and that is what my body needs. Energy. Of course it needs fiber etc. but what if I give my body whole foods and I just add sugar to gain a bit more calories so its easier for me to work, ride my bike, handle my business etc.

  • Please know more about honey,
Almighty tell in holy book the Quran,
Chapter no16 surah Nahl (The Bee)
Service to human is service to God.

  • But there is regular sugar that is organic and brown organic sugar preserves the vitamins, minerals of regular sugar and is high in potassium, also has other minerals.

  • Brown sugar is white sugar with molasses added to it??? A very misleading statement, which is only partially true. Brown sugar is a sucrose sugar product with a distinctive brown color due to the presence of molasses. It is either an unrefined or partially refined soft sugar consisting of sugar crystals with some residual molasses content, or it is produced by the addition of molasses to refined white sugar. Reading the label will tell you which brown sugar you have. If you have brown cane sugar, it is very healthy*, in regards to *Prevention and treatment of cold and flu symptoms are one of the many health benefits of cane sugar. It helps reduce congestion and ease sore throats. Cane sugar also helps prevent cancers like prostate and breast cancer. Also, unlike refined sugars, sugar cane helps revitalize, energize and hydrate the body after exercise.

  • Nonsense! Dietitians of Canada: Bottom line “…Foods like fruit and milk that have naturally occurring sugar are nutritious and are part of a healthy eating plan. Canada’s Food Guide recommends limiting food and drinks that are high in added sugar. Added sugars like honey and agave are no healthier than white sugar and brown sugar…”

  • Are you even a doctor? What about he fructose in Honey? Fructose that need to be processed by the liver? No mention about it’s adverse health effects.

  • I have type 1 diabetes and there’s no way in hell I would touch any form of honey. Very dangerous. ALL sugar is poison. Beef water salt ONLY

  • “Drinking two glasses of fruit juice a day may increase the risk of cancer by more than 50 percent, a major study has found.
The analysis of more than 100,000 adults revealed particularly strong correlations between the sugary soft drink and breast cancer.
While recent public health campaigns have focused largely on the risks from fizzy drinks, the new findings, published in the BMJ, provide arguably the strongest evidence yet that fruit juices also high in sugar are comparably dangerous.”

  • This is an AWESOME video! I also have a video about honey ”The Healing Power of Honey” You can check it out

  • Anything other than whole fruit IS processed sugar. Maple syrup, agave and even honey are processed. Small amounts of raw honey are medicinal. But don’t mistake anything other than a whole piece of fruit for natural sugar. And the body definitely knows the difference.

  • I vape and it has sucralose in it, it’s all I can get cheap and delivered during closed down vape shops due to coronavirus in UK. I vape 150 ml a week.i love jam DOUGHNUT vape e liquid, I’m type 2 diabetic

  • Consider this, refined sugar will give you a canker sore, raw honey and Apple mother vinegar will get rid of it.
I don’t like stevia either. But I guess I could try.
Agave is the worst and I was using it for years. No more.

  • One of my friends is also a chocolate addict. He began eating little pieces of honey comb when he needed a sugar fix. I doubted it’d work. But I tried it. Just a tablespoon or less of the honey comb. A tablespoon was 60 calories but was way better than the chocolate. And it made me not want chocolate.

  • Cmon you made other video and said that honey is not a substitute of sugar and have far more fructose than sugar..you are contradicting yourself

  • Dr Axe! What are your thoughts about Monkfruit? I’m a coffee drinker who like it sweet so I started using Monkfruit by Lakanto instead of Stevia. Stevia has a weird taste

  • Honny implies the unnecerssary destruction of sentien beings, there are other ways to use the beneficial benefits of what they call “honney” that actually contains the nectar of flores why not to go to the flowers directly flowers are not sentient beings with brains and nervous system

  • It has anti-microbial properties that destroy urinary track infections…and it’s Gods gift to man for sweetness, not that white crap table sugar..

  • Thats not normal “raw” honey on the right. The honey that comes out of my hives looks like the one on the left. He was tasting either creamed honey or the rare types like out of Hawaii that are more crystalized and very expensive.

  • I am not even paying attention to what she is saying… as i am going through the comments all i hear is sugar bad, bad sugar, bad bad bad sugar. Horrible sugar… i mean horrible video

  • Why didn’t she explain the sugar profile of the Molasses, coconut sugar and maple syrup! Would be helpful to see the % glucose and fructose for each item as she did clearly with the table sugar.

  • Too fast and too noisy. Slow down and take away the music please. When I paused to try and read the explanation the screen went dark so I couldn’t read the explanation. I wanted to know the process between unrefined and granulated but I still don’t know.

  • All sugar is bad? Hopefully people picked up that you said your opinión cuz it means crap. Sugar is great in the right form coming from fruits… your opinion is not more valid than what nature created…

  • There’s another reason why honey is better than sugar…honey contains fructose which in cellular metabolism will indirectly lead to one Glycolysis but sugar consists of sucrose(2 glucoses) which in cellular metabolism will directly lead to 2 Glycolysis metabolic pathways

  • Hi Doc, I am on Telmisartan and I love eating dates, but according to the prescription one who takes this medicine should not take potassium. So is the potassium in dates bad for me?? thanks

  • Wow, you are amazing. May I come to your home for a solid day of healthy baking? If that isn’t possible, give me some recipes that allows me the correct indication of healthy sweetness as opposed to nasty and unhealthy pressed sugar.

  • They went to the trouble the walk across the set to the really nicely displayed honey pots, with really nice signs and graphics with some animation, is it more informative this way?… why wasn’t there a check box with a -pa-ting sound?, and why no honey bee buzzing sfx either? “No conveyor belts” huh? That must make the mechanics bill a bit lower I guess, but I’m no expert.

  • I LIKE ONLY THE MAPLE SYRUP OUT OF THIS LIST. I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE STEVIA. HONEY, I CAN TOLERATE, BUT ONLY IN SMALL AMOUNTS AND DATES ARE DELICIOUS, BUT NOT APPROPRIATE FOR EVERY RECIPE. I JUST USE SPLENDA. EASY AND CONVENIENT AND I DON’T REALLY CARE WHAT IT DOES TO MY BODY. JIM MORRISON SAID IT BEST-“NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE”…..

  • What about sugar from sugar beets. It is the most commonly used sugar in North America. I get inflammation from beet sugar but not from cane sugar

  • honey is nice from time to time as a treat, honey can be beneficial when you have a sore throat or a cold, but as a dietary mainstay like they are suggesting here bullshit and any professional dietitian will tell you that… looking for a good sugar replacement then try stevia… admittedly it has a slightly strange at first but you get used to it…
