“Dill is a flavorful herb that can add a nutritional boost to your diet, but more research is needed to confirm the best therapeutic outcome,” says Aguirre. In other words, don’t expect it to be a magic cure-all for diabetes or cholesterol, but if you enjoy its flavor, consider adding it to dishes like baked salmon, latke waffles and pasta. Dill, an herb that pairs nicely with seafood, chicken, potatoes and soups, may add more to your meal than its distinct flavor. “Both the seeds and leaves of the dill plant have been found to be rich in several plant compounds with antioxidant properties, including flavonoids, terpenoids and tannins,” says Carol Aguirre, RD. Other research shows dill could have an anti-diabetic effect and may also have a. Dill is found ubiquitously in Santa Maria, yet curiously, is rare in the other Azorean Islands.

In Sweden, dill is a common spice or herb. The top of fully grown dill is called krondill (English: Crown dill); this is used when cooking crayfish. The krondill is put into the water after the crayfish is.

Superdukat Dill is super tall, reaching 4.5-5 feet at maturity. It grows uniformly and is later blooming than Bouquet. Hera Dill is another bunching variety that produces lots of leaves.

Dill is a biennial warm-season herb, very sensitive to light-freezes and frost. Dill is not technically a perennial plant, because a single plant only lives 2 years. It is quite proficient at self seeding (if allowed).

If let grow naturally, A single dill plant should come back year after year. Dill is a super immune booster, a congestion clearer for the respiratory system, can help calm your digestive system, and has relaxant properties to help treat insomnia. It’s calcium content and anti-inflammatory properties means it also helps to protect you from the loss of bone density and assists with the treatment of arthritis. Dill seed can start menstruation and that might lead to a miscarriage.

There isn’t enough reliable information to know if dill is safe to use when breast-feeding. It’s best to stick to food amounts. Dill is considered an annual herb but it self seeds at the end of the growing season if seed heads are left on the plants. One plant has many seeds so it will come back year after year.

Valued for its fragrant ferny leaves and aromatic seeds, dill (Anethum graveolens) is an annual plant native to Asia that has naturalized to Mediterranean countries and southern Russia. It is grown. Dried dill weed and dill seed can be found in the spice section of the grocery store. Look for bunches of fresh dill in the produce or fresh herb section. Look for fresh dill with fresh-cut stems and unwilted leaves.

Dill fronds are airy and delicate, and as such, they wilt and get bruised easily.

  • I just wanted to share a short version of our story as to how we ended up on your page. My husband was diagnosed about 12 years ago as a Type 2 Diabetes, I myself was Pre-diabetic, Hypertension (high blood pressure) and Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol). We spent 9 years on multiple Medications, that ultimately ended up hurting our livers and kidneys. By the way, my husband never had BP or Cholestrol issues yet he was on more meds than I was, including the ones for issues he didn’t have like BP & Cholestrol. On July 30, 2017 I had a cancer scare. It was the wake up call we both needed. 07/30/17 was the day I quit eating animals and Fast foods. August 14th was the day my husband became Vegan. Four months later thru blood work, our doctor was shocked to find that, besides my cholesterol, both our Blood works showed no signs of kidney or liver distress, our Blood sugars were both looking really good, his was at the high end of normal, my was middle normal. My BP was normal and he was even more shocked to find out that we hadn’t had any medications since 08/21/17. Yep, I kid you not we did this with just eating food that had grown from the ground. Oh and we had lost over 60 pounds combined. So as to my journey to your page, with all that is going on right now, we decided to grow our own food… and recently we started researching the health benefits to Medicinal Herbs, so while I was doing my homework, I stumbled across your page. Bless your heart for sharing your knowledge with us all. Stay safe and Grow on!

  • How many drops would you use under your tounge?…You know.. if I were living “back then” hahahaha. Loved the info. I’m a breastfeeding mama so I’m interested in doing this for sure.

  • You’re very diligent at curtailing language that the mumbo jumbo’s in the pharmakeia industry would cite as “medical advice.” Luke the physician would likely have known all about the benefits of every plant. Unfortunately, we live in a day and age where the aforementioned “industry” lies to, and hides truly beneficial information from everyone in order to; 1_Keep us sick and dependent. 2_Force us through fear and ignorance to give them every last penny with hopes for better health in one area, in exchange for around thirty or more side effects and detriments in various others. 3_And worst of all, They want us reliant on ANYTHING other than The Lord Most High and His Provision for our good health._It’s really a shame that you legally have to use disclaimers for truths that were only ever covered up for the purpose of harming any person necessary in order to further the evil plan of eugenics… I still have to “catch myself” when writing things like this, and let Holy Spirit remind me of Ephesians 6:12… It’s not the people involved in the agenda, but the principalities behind them.

  • Please forgive me if you covered this, I’m at about the middle of this video, are any of these herbs able to grow well in shade? Loving your videos!

  • I appreciate the information in the video. My only suggestion is too limit the extraneous talk. Just my opinion. Info about herbs starts at min 5 to those who want to forward to it.

  • I discovered one day after mowing all day my arm was achy. When I went to shower, I looked into the mirror and saw tell-tale red streaks indicative of blood-poisoning! It was Sat, and I didn’t want to go to the ER. The day before I had bought the book, “The Handbook of Alternatives to Chemical Medicine” by Mildred Jackson, N.D. & Terri Teague, D.C. Quickly, I scanned the index to see what to do. They said “a clove of raw garlic, taken internally.” I did and went to bed. The next morning when I awoke, it was gone!
I was surprised Comfrey isn’t in your garden. My state outlawed it and I would like to know why as it supposedly is capable of “knitting” a broken bone back together. Broken bones are painful, too. Do you have an herb for the pain for that?

  • Thank you so much. I’m new to your channel and I have to say this is the best vid I have seen on basic herb additions for a medicinal garden. Well done

  • Good show. Richter’s herbs and Strictly Medicinal are good medicinal plant and seed resources and it tells the positive uses of various plants. Where herbs can really do a lot of good.
Like edible landscaping, I have lemon bomb growing beside steps and in front which do make a good tea. I have some mint too. Then I got some he Shou Wu, which somehow tightens knees. It restores original hair color. Supposed to be a liver and kidney tonic.
Marshmallow root, oh it has brought tremendous relief. Original marshmallows were said to be made from it. Mixing with gelatin whipping it up. Its said to help diverticulitus, skin conditions. But I assure you, food sat up high, making my chest feel bad, talking about making breathing hard on top of already having breathing issues. Then terrible GERD, where I’m talking about omerprazole and zantac could not treat, though I still take it. I’m talking about being woke up even with head of bed elevated, reflux coming up and burning like the devil. Alka Seltzer and Pepto Bismol only aided relief.
I know there’s got to be others with such problems. Marshmallow root extract. Initially added about 8 huge tbsp. with a gallon of water. After several months, I recently reduced it to about a couple healing tbsp. to a gallon. It helps constipation tremendously as well as hemmrhoids, where it makes passing waste much easier. It’s also known to help pass urinary stones I suspect by lubricating urinary tract, which I know it will help. Which Chanka Piedra will help pass stones by being lithotriptic, which I know. Joe Pye Weed is said to work like that too.
Then olive leaf extract, I know if you can find a quality product will help if I get sick. I still get sick but even older and out of shape I dont get as sick and it doesn’t last as long
This is a very good show right here, where it’s hard to beat personal experience of what works.
Modern medicine is great but it doesn’t do everything and then pharmaceuticals used to be what meds were made from.

  • This is great news…my friend grew dill this year and has a big harvest so will share these ideas! Btw I love the misfit pkgs. Just received my 1st and loving on some veggies. Keep us informed on the history lessons and looking forward to the next one

  • It’s funny how much we seem to have changed since the olden days! Great video! Historically informative, interesting and inspiring! Thank you! God bless you! I really enjoy all your videos. Xx

  • Great video thanks. Great list. I’m goin to try candula. I find there are many plants that become more troubling with increased dosage. Many herbs are strong diuretics, stimulants like gensing, horse chestnut etc. I’ve gone to the hospital a few times taking herbs that started a reaction with increased dose or dehydrated with diabetes and diuretic herbs. Some plants are non toxic and safe but many aren’t. The serious research on many herbs is small. We grew up taking an herb in Spanish called Istafiate also known as grandmothers sage, western mugwort. It’s in a family of plants that is super toxic but this isn’t so much. It calms stomach cramps for flu’s/diareah, helps womens issues but can cause spontaneous abortion and mania. We grew up self diagnosing. If your hairs falling out take CoQ10. Well.. haha it grows hair everywhere else on your body except your head LOL not a good year for me. People use cactus on skin, for diabetes and drink it(yuk lol) but it contains latex. Not so sure it should be ingested. Horse Chestnut improves blood flow, hemmeroids etc but many side effects quickly. Anyways I research more extensively nowa days. Herbs are purposely not regulated and to many to research well without funding. They are the ingredients in the drugs from the Pharmacy. People who arent listening to their body or reading up, get in trouble quick with some herbs because nature is not always regulating the dosage. Not that it will stop me ha ha. Anyways just blabbing. Peace

  • Great Video!! I wish more people would look into the wonderful benefits of herbs over medications. That is not to say medications aren’t needed, THEY ARE. Still if people understood how herbs work and what they can do for us, body and mind. They might begin to realize herbs are a free medication and enjoyable to grow. They aren’t just for the flesh but for the mind also. Many Herbs help with Depression and Anxiety and many emotions and moods.
Also something to take note to. Due to experiments with depressive people, Doctors noted that many Depressives stated how much better they felt after working in a garden. Even if it was a hard few hours of labor, like pulling weeds. A woman, Scientist (I believe) began studying soil and the bacteria that lives in it. She found a Bacteria called, Mycobaterium Vaccae that works much like Prozac. It not only makes you feel good, but it’s believed to help with Cognitive thought also. Cancer Patients are finding out how good they feel when working in the garden. Obviously you would NOT wear gloves.
I could go on about this, but my point is….. everyone should go back to gardening, no matter how small and add more herbs to their diet. They all go hand in hand and we are all a part of every living organism.

  • Oh my goodness!! My grannie taught my mom that dill was good for me and my brother when we were wee little ones… my mom always said it was awesome! She used that and gripe water anytime we had ‘grumpy tummys’ as they were fondly called around our house growing up!
So cool to hear you share this info here too!!

  • What a cheering and informative video! (It would have been helpful to show us the herbs, too, and maybe to show us how to spell their names so that we could look them up.)
Is it okay if I ask where you’re from? I’m asking because I’d like to know where people pronounce “yarrow” to rhyme with “sorrow” and not with “arrow” — and where people accent “elecampane” on the second-to-last syllable instead of on the last syllable. (I’ve never before heard those two words pronounced as you pronounce them.)

  • How many drops would you use under your tounge?…You know.. if I were living “back then” hahahaha. Loved the info. I’m a breastfeeding mama so I’m interested in doing this for sure.

  • thank you, great video, very useful!
Only thing, i know how complicated it can be to deal with health issues in kids and i’m aware of the practices of our current medical care system but please know that putting anything directly into the intestines can be very traumatic and damaging for a child’s mental health. To give a remedy orally even if it means to wait a little longer for its effects it’s the way to go.

  • Great video. One thing that people should think about when using herbs that it seems that they forgot is blood clotting. Many commonly used herbs negatively affect blood clotting. This was a great list but due to my condition, I can’t use most of them.

Peace

  • How do I know what plants l have in my garden. The women l bought my house from had so many plants. That l don’t know what is what. Is there a website or how do I get to know what I have.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Im in the process of building up my medicinal herb garden and I have been searching everywhere for a elecampane plant. Any suggestions where I can find the plant?

  • Hi Caroline! I’ve been watching a lot of your videos lately and I love your channel! I’m an RN and interested in herbal remedies but also leery bc of all the conflicting information about safety, efficacy and dosing. Do you have any research backed resources you’d recommend?

  • What a cheering and informative video! (It would have been helpful to show us the herbs, too, and maybe to show us how to spell their names so that we could look them up.)
Is it okay if I ask where you’re from? I’m asking because I’d like to know where people pronounce “yarrow” to rhyme with “sorrow” and not with “arrow” — and where people accent “elecampane” on the second-to-last syllable instead of on the last syllable. (I’ve never before heard those two words pronounced as you pronounce them.)

  • love the show would it be poss able to put the names of the herbs on the screen as you talk about them please we are in our 70 sss and it go’s a bit fast keep up the great work

  • Thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge and genuine caring about the health and well being of others. I bought and am starting a lot of these herbs thanks to you! I have had a bit of a struggle getting Yarrow to get going, and Elecampane, but I’ll keep trying:)

  • Hello, you mentioned bee balm aka monarda aka ( bergomot??) are u sure its bergomot? I googled it and see something that looks like a lime. I wonder if its the lemon bergomot plant?

  • А я рёбра поросячьи запекаю в духовке, с барбекью соусом, оригинальным, производства Walmart…. надеюсь, будет не хуже чем вообще масло!)))

  • 1st time viewer of your channel … I “liked”/ “subscribed” … it’s a shame that we live in a condo (small balcony used for growing additional food), if we lived in a house with a yard, It would be “game on” for medicinal herbs because I’m a believer … Bright blessings to you and yours … Thank you for sharing!!!

  • This was so interesting and I have been wondering about dill. But havent taken the time to research because I’ve been so busy with harvest and canning and homeschooling pur three children and helping others.

  • Thank you so much for your time and dedication to this channel. You and your family provide a wealth of information. Brings such a bright light into my day when you post a video. Thank you!

  • Great! Thank you for all videos. You are the best! I also recently found an extra item. https://bit.ly/2MZ1rOe Good Book. Full of useful information. I have a large number of the plants listed in this book growing where I Live. I will try some of the remedies. I know that most of the information in this book was common knowledge when my parents were growing up. And many of these remedies do work. They do not all work for every one. Same as some people are allergic to nuts and some people are not.
