Chocolate and its main ingredient, cocoa, appear to reduce risk factors for heart disease. Flavanols in cocoa beans have antioxidant effects that reduce cell damage implicated in heart disease. Flavanols — more prevalent in dark chocolate than in milk chocolate — may also help. Chocolate and Your Health The possible health benefits of chocolate stem from the antioxidant flavonoids.

  • Milk chocolate is ok when used with NATURAL not artificial or sugar sweeteners it’s just Coco and milk and milk has calcium for teeth

  • I eat 4 squares of 90% dark chocolate every single day. I love it. It reduces my stress levels, makes me feel happy. Will never give it up.
    I’m from Australia:)

  • I eat 70% dark chocolate EVERY day. I tried 85% but it was too bitter for me so went back to 1 ounce of 70%.
I have an extremely clean diet (vegan), do intermittent fasting, and exercise 5-7 days a week.
I believe my lifestyle in addition to the consumption of the dark chocolate is key to the improvement of my health.
I have beat diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol……and have lost around 160 pounds effortlessly. I’ve kept the weight off for 4 years now. I can live with this lifestyle as long as I can eat my dark chocolate every day! LoL. BTW, I eat organic, non gmo, soy free dark chocolate and love it!

  • I m afraid dark chocolate does not make me feel good, quite the opposite its bland bitter hard, nothing like milk chocolate which I ve been eating every day for years which I look forward to and makes me feel very happy, no side effects no diabetes, just enjoyment. If there was only dark choc left in the world I d just give it up.

  • I have SIBO, anemia, psoriatic arthritis and suffer greatly from short-term memory, lack of concentration, triggered easily by over stimuli, lacking solid rest. I have a unhealthy addiction to sugar. I don’t know how to discipline without having moments of crash binges. I think I don’t know my body well enough to know exactly what it needs and how to reprogram it while staying balanced. I work a physical hard job in the hot sun. I need direction..

  • i already love dark chocolate WAY more than the other types of chocolate. i’m just here to prove to my friends why dark chocolate is the best

  • Dr. I have been listening to you talking about Celery, and dark chocolate. Having Kidney disease can I eat are drink these things. I was told that no red blood cell sees in my body. I live in Jamaica WI.

  • Hi,
I am from india and i find the information about dark chocolates beneficial.
I myself makes chocolates using raw dark cocoa powder and mixing them with honey almonds and oil. I hope this mixture is fine fot health.

    Thanks

  • I eat organic 99% I was so happy to find 99% although it is only found in independent grocery stores. So sometimes I skip out on it for a few weeks or just go for the Lindt 95% but it does have sugar in it.

  • I am 77 years old and I don’t smoke and/or drink however, I love my Dark Chocolate. Have been eating dark chocolate for at least 10 years after my Cardiologist determined I had a good amount of blockage but not enough to warrant a stint. For years I ate primarily 60% and progressed to over 80%. I do a Nuclear Stress Test and Cardiac workup every year with rather good results and have not needed a Cardiac Cauterization yet??? I believe my diet has been good and for the Dark Chocolate, my wife, children and their children love Dark Chocolate the best. One Grandson usually eats a square of 100% everyday.
Note: it sometimes seems to cause me constipation!

  • According to my own scientific studies, which I did on myself at my house, eating chocolate increases my happiness rating significantly and abstaining from it makes me a sad. The results are conclusive! I should eat more chocolate!:)

  • Had I known that was Laci Greene or whatever her name is, I’d never have clicked on it. Not listening to an ignorant militant femin-azi.

  • Is dark chocolate really beneficial in menstruation? And what% should be eaten?? Which brand would be better?? I hope you reply me

  • Hello dr ryan. I really love dark chocolate with 70% and above cacao content. I Iike eating it almost everyday however it’s not always available here in Philippines so sometimes I have to wait for it to get imported in the market

  • I am 21 live in CA and eat a few squares to help manage stress and menstrual pain. It also curbs my sweet tooth. Love it. I had to slowly work my way to higher cacao. I used to love milk “chocolate” and now it’s far too sweet.

  • AMERICAN HEART SOCIETY: “Most dark chocolate is high in flavonoids, particularly a subtype called flavanols that is associated with a lower risk of heart disease. Some studies suggest chocolate or cocoa consumption is associated with a lower risk of insulin resistance and high blood pressure in adults.

“While dark chocolate has more flavanols than other types of chocolate, the data to suggest there is enough to have a health effect is thin at this point,” said Alice H. Lichtenstein, the Gershoff professor of nutrition science and policy at Tufts University in Boston.

In a 2017 study that closely controlled what people ate, researchers found that eating raw almonds, dark chocolate and cocoa helped lower “bad” LDL cholesterol in people who are overweight or obese. But when investigators took the almonds away, dark chocolate and cocoa alone didn’t appear to aid heart health.

A potential explanation, researchers said, is that the flavanol dose was about half that used in earlier studies that found a beneficial effect on blood pressure – 274 milligrams of flavanols compared to 586.

But that amount of flavanols “is unlikely achievable with daily consumption of commercially available dark chocolate,” Lichtenstein said.

Researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston are currently studying whether a 600-mg daily supplement of cocoa flavanols can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and cancer.”

  • Hi mr Gundry. I find it interesting that you recommend eating chocolate. Theobromine and caffeine is known to be these particular plants method of defending themselves against predators. It is spoken of as a natural incecticide for this reason. Isn’t this exactly what you say about lectins in other foods? And what would the long term implications be if theobromine and caffeine has a similar effect on the human body?

  • I have really been trying to change… but there is nothing I have read, so far, to substitute for bread, or did I miss that? Is there a “bread” i could make with tapioca flour or ground flaxseed or ground stonecut oats? I could use some help? DJ ([email protected])

  • Everything this chick says is utter bullshit. Chocolate is an indulgence, and should always be treated as such. Dark chocolate is not good for you, and tastes like the bottom of an ashtray. Milk chocolate is delicious and horrible for your healththat’s why you only enjoy every once in a while. Everybody knows that a Hershey’s bar tastes better than a fucking Lindt 85% Kaka bar any day of the week. I’m talking to you vegan/organic/paleo/keto douchebags!

  • I would kill for dark chocolate and Brazil nuts, there is something about this combination of the two tastes that explode on the taste buds that is far to good to be good for you, everybody knows healthy food tastes disgusting lol

  • I use 100% Cacao chocolate bar, no sugar. I put one square of it in my coffee or hot cocoa drink. On another occasion I may put a teaspoon of chocolate nibs in my coffee. It gives a relaxing kind of optimism when i add either of those ingredients to my coffee. So anyway, it is very beneficial for my outlook and peace of mind

  • Hi again! I would sure like to hear you talk about oxalates. I learned more about them when I was listening to from Sally Norton. (If anyone here has heard Dr. Gundry address oxalates would you please point me to that You Tube, or Podcast, or where ever else?) Thanks!

  • According to my own scientific studies, which I did on myself at my house, eating chocolate increases my happiness rating significantly and abstaining from it makes me a sad. The results are conclusive! I should eat more chocolate!:)

  • Dr. Gundry, I am a 71 years old male with BPH for more than 30 years. I’d been medicated with avodart but it only has aliviated the symptoms a bit. Nonetheless, cutting the lectins from my diet I’d got a lot better, in such a level that I eliminated the medication. My prostate is much less inflamated and I am able to urinate as in my ancient times. Is it possible that lectins were the origin of my problem?

  • Technically almost anything u eat turns into sugar and stored fat. Oh and like they said no diet can decrease ur risk for cancer. You know by that logic I can eat McDonald’s everyday. Thank u scishow for giving me this information. Like thank you for ignoring the fact that scientists have proved that eating 5 servings of vegetables a day decreases ur risk for cancer by ten percent. Oh and thank you for not including the fact that there is actually a thing called phytocytes in vegetables that rid your body of carcinogens that cause cancer. Thank you. If nobody is going to say this then I will. Ohhh and haven’t scientists also listed cancer as a preventable disease there are things that cause it like carcinogens. U may have not known that.

  • Dark chocolate is not bad for you becasue it does not have sugar and its full of fat and antioxidant. ofcourse if you are eating too much of carbs then fat is also bad for you.
BTW dont believe scientific studies most of the times they are bullshit specially if they are done on food.

  • I just ate a 90% supreme dark chocolate…holy cow i wasn’t expecting it to be that bitter..but i still like it better than milk chocolate

  • Canned peas. As they are cooked in the can isn’t it the same as pressure cooking the peas……..so canned peas are lectin free; right?

  • May someone suggest me some brand and % of dark chocolate to buy to get the healthy benefits? I’ve already heard before that we need to have at least 70% of cacao and more. What I’m wondering is should I care about the amount of sugar even if it’s 70% and more or to care about other substances in it?

    Thanks in advance!

  • There’s a real concern with heavy metal contamination in cocoa and dark chocolate, primarily cadmium, which is a kidney toxin. The World Health Organization(WHO) has suggested a limit of 0.3 micrograms of cadmium in cocoa powder. Canada says average adults should not be exposed to more than 4.1 micrograms of cadmium per day. Unfortunately, a number of the products on the market today exceed that, and in many cases exceed that by many times. https://www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Cocoa_Powders_and_Chocolates_Sources_of_Flavanols/cocoa-flavanols/

  • I put around 110 grams of 100% dark unsweetened baking chocolate bar in my keto Cake I bake every week. I sweeten the cake with Monk Fruit. Sugar and fat is not a good combo. I highly recommend checking sugar content of the dark chocolate sold in the market. Some of them have crazy amounts of sugar.

  • I am Canadian of Italian ancestry and a transplant patient from a living donor, of course diabetes caused by anti-rejection drugs is well controlled and had a myocardial infarction 3 years ago, I have been eating a bit of dark chocolate but I am increasing my intake not because of your video but because I stopped all dairy products and since I was vegetarian not meat eater, not I do not even eat fish nor eggs too, so my source of food is quite reduced and I am only 147 lb. I went on a shock diet 2 years ago because of doctors on youtube and almost died because I contracted pneumosystis pneumonia due to very weakened immune system due to the crash diet. as of January 1st 2020 I am following a diet by Dr Barnard and DR mc Dougall which is starch based and plant based combined including dark chocolate, I would come back every month to report on my condition and if diabetes is gone, I am giving the diet a full year.

  • I make my own chocolate treat by mixing cocoa powder, coconut oil and honey with a couple dashes of salt.
I realize DrG doesn’t recommend honey but it’s what’s in the cupboard till I run out and try some monk fruit(?). I’ve never had it so don’t know if it’s a fluid or powdered substance??
Anyway homemade is much less expensive and you can make a single tablespoon or a gigantic batch. It’s nice to dip walnuts in and freeze for a hot day treat

  • hmm let’s see…
well, I like its bitter taste, and I like when my friends have a gross face expression and it releases my stress…
    ya that’s it

  • I’ve got a few mental diagnosis, and one is depression. But I haven’t taken anti-depressants in about 20 years (I’m 45) because I feel like they cause more problems than they solve and don’t like feeling disconnected.
I started on dark chocolate awhile ago from hearing somewhere, not sure where, someone saying it helped with depression.
And I’m not like someone who just gets down a little sometimes. I’m not quite bi-polar, but close. Pretty severe (diagnosised, not me assuming). And I swear that from the day I’ve taken dark chocolate, it’s helped A LOT.
It’s not a magic cure, but I’d say it helps my mood swings to be about 60-70% less, in my unscientific estimation. It’s a lot and it’s obviously noticable.
I’ve experimented. Like if I buy dark chocolate mixed with other ingredients, it doesn’t seem to work, not to any level I can notice. It needs to be pure dark chocolate without other things mixed with it (like coconut or whatever some companies sell dark chocolate and other flavors with) and it needs to be a minimum of 70%. Even at 65%, it seems like it doesn’t do anything. It’s weird.
But I eat a bar of dark chocolate a day (roughly, sometimes a little less). Every day. And i know I’m not imagining it, it helps more than any anti-depressant ever did and without the weird side effects.
Weird but true. Dark chocolate has been a great medicine for me. I’m not trying to tell anyone else what to do, but God’s honest truth, it helps me.

  • This is why I don’t watch your channel to actually learn anything. Good job purposefully leaving out the fact that there are 99-100% cacao bars out there and eating just a piece of them a couple of times a day can improve your mood and health. But no just bring up the fact that chocolate has sugar and other harmful things. Those are candy and not actual chocolate that helps heal you.

  • I eat 100 per cent dark chocolate. Too much a day but wakes you up. I know it has iron. Gives me energy. And probably all the other things you mentioned. This pure chocolate works out expensive though if you eat a lot. Trying to stick to few squares a day. I heard it can make you constipated so might be good to mix with fibre food for some. Like strawberries yum yum.

  • Of course chocolate by itself tastes bad, a loooot of people don’t like coffee and they have similar flavors, we just process the chocolate to candy, if they made a high-flavonoid cocoa drink (could even add caffeine to make it more like coffee even though I think it contains some already) and drink it like coffee

  • Thanks for watching! What’s your favorite way to eat Plant Paradox approved chocolate?

  • I have SIBO, anemia, psoriatic arthritis and suffer greatly from short-term memory, lack of concentration, triggered easily by over stimuli, lacking solid rest. I have a unhealthy addiction to sugar. I don’t know how to discipline without having moments of crash binges. I think I don’t know my body well enough to know exactly what it needs and how to reprogram it while staying balanced. I work a physical hard job in the hot sun. I need direction..

  • Every day i eat 60g of dark chocolate (95% cocoa). Better skin and im always happy. Im from Portugal (Lisbon). Thanks for the vídeo.

  • What about Mexican made chocolate? It has a significantly different taste than chocolate you find in the states. I’ve even asked my dad about this, since he grew up in Mexico and knows exactly what I’m talking about. I’m not a fan of most chocolate treats made in Mexico but I do like the chocolate bricks of any brand used to make hot chocolate or other uses. Still, they all have that same flavor that is unmistakably Mexican chocolate. It a little similar to dark chocolate but nothing at all like the taste of milk chocolate. He jokingly said it might be because of lead but he was also half serious.

  • Milk chocolate is ok when used with NATURAL not artificial or sugar sweeteners it’s just Coco and milk and milk has calcium for teeth

  • A few years ago, I was able to finally tame my sweet tooth with dark chocolate. A few squares would satisfy me and I had no need for cookies, cake, candy, or other sweets. Now I might eat one bar of dark chocolate (70%-85%) in 2 weeks. I’m 62.

  • True. Five years ago I suffered 100.00% complete liver failure followed by right kidney, spleen and gall bladder. (Kidney 100% nearly on others) Iron less than half bottom of range, blood sugar less than 100. Dying in severe discomfort, Dr.’s did zero except cut hole in side to drain out 8liters of fluid per week. LLinda almost wanted to do surgery but said I would bleed to death. No treatments. No prescription to help but pain and diuretic. Alive because I changed diet away from theirs. I ate almost all fruits nuts raw vegetables with lots of Vitamin C. All dr.s left me. Point: You really can survive all this. Painful but if will to live is used its more important than advice. Apple seeds helped to stop all paracentisis. Raw berries too. Try it.

  • Dr Gundry, I’ve got a spur on my left foot heel, so so painful, pain moves to several locations sometimes, what plant food can heal, thank u, greetings from Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia

  • I eat 100% chocolate. No sugar or substitutes. 4 pcs 11g Fibre, calcium 6%, iron 8%, potassium 11%, magnesium 40%, manganese 25%. Ingredients cacao and cacao butter. Is it still nutritious with the cacao butter?? I also eat the raw organic bean, are these better or do the skins contain lectins. I don’t mind bitter

  • Dear Dr Shelton the truth of health first your genes second if you been in contact with a lot of chemicals heavy industrial etc third your food habits everybody trying to make money of the food item and fourth your good or bad luck, in summary there is no justice in life, all the best and have a good day

  • Tried organic 100 per Cent chocolate powder with RA, and I had a swelling reaction:(. Why? I am assuming it is non dutched, as it Looks quite light, but there are no indications of its being either dutched or nondutched

  • As Dark chocolate maker in Costa Rica I can comment the following:
Everything the man is saying is true, he is missing something absolutely important though… look for PURE chocolate with only cacao butter, avoid the palm oil or lecithin in excess.
There just a few pure Dark chocolate available in the world, you need to look for Dark chocs with ONLY two ingredients: Cacao and Sugar PPEERRIIOODD.
Avoid chocolate with labels that say: I might have this or it might have traces of that… that is lying of the worst kind!
Enjoy pure chocolate, you will not regret!

  • ah, the old fat is bad for you thing. Dark Chocolate 85% is very good for you. A serving 30g has little sugar, a lot of fiber and nutrition. You were talking about snicker bars

  • I drink about 100g of pure cocoa every day. Its healthier than 100g of coffee. But there isn’t a high level of flavanoids in cacoa like there is cacao.

  • Hello Dr. I’m new in your channel getting educate in how to eat healthy. I hear that it doesn’t matter how healthy you eat if you have a lot of stress in your life. Could you please talk about this? and the nerve system that orchestra it? what supplements can help us? what about the adrenal glands? I know this is like more of the mental health but what about when it’s already affecting our health?

  • Hi Dr. Gundry! I deeply appreciate you and your teaching! If we use an alternate cream substitute like I have organic creamery coconut milk with no lectins in the ingredients, does it also negate the polyphenals in coffee or tea? Thank-You!

  • I was losing almost 300-400 hair per day and ended up losing almost 1/2 of my hair in few months, I tried everything which could be the cause to be fixed and despite trying everything nothing worked, I started dark chocolate 100% cocoa, one table spoon powder with coconut milk, and some times in coffee, and thankGod my hair fall stopped from day one..
Any one who has tried everything and hasn’t gotten result try dark chocolate…

  • Without the stock video footage for example, the lady consuming the chocolate in slow motion when you mention consuming chocolate this video would make no sense to me at all.

  • Could you do a video on endometriosis and inflamation. My colon microbiome and later vagina and cervix showed pathogens…Btw my favorite chocolate is https://www.fortnumandmason.com/products/ultimate-100-dark-hot-chocolate?taxon_id=2550

  • Prunes + cocoa powder (100% pure): make a paste with the mixer and roll it like truffles over more cocoa powder.
Delicius, just 2 ingredients, no fats and no added sugar, is sweet enough with the prunes

  • Wasn’t chocolate a good source for L-tryptophan? A chemical used to make serotonin that enhance mood in people? Because I eat dark 85%+ chocolate for that reason.

  • I eat 100% cacao, and I love it. But for those who find it too bitter, it’s simple to melt it, add stevia, and let it re-solidify. So everyone can eat 100% cacao.

  • hmm let’s see…
well, I like its bitter taste, and I like when my friends have a gross face expression and it releases my stress…
    ya that’s it

  • Dr. I have been listening to you talking about Celery, and dark chocolate. Having Kidney disease can I eat are drink these things. I was told that no red blood cell sees in my body. I live in Jamaica WI.

  • Flavonoids are antioxidants, if u want to eat flavonoids, anthocyanin is the best option, grab any plant part that is red or purple and eat it

  • I actually love the semisweet dark chocolate. I like the 85 to 90 % cocoa, so many consider it bitter but I consider milk chocolate too sweet.

  • I drink about 100g of pure cocoa every day. Its healthier than 100g of coffee. But there isn’t a high level of flavanoids in cacoa like there is cacao.

  • I love dark chocolate, the Hershey dark chocolate I like a lot, but I’m eating dark chocolate along with spinach and a few other things to help with my Ed. I’m 66 years old and I have a terrible time with Ed, my greatest fear is to be alone

Unfortunately, a number of the products on the market today exceed that, and in many cases exceed that by many times. https://www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Cocoa_Powders_and_Chocolates_Sources_of_Flavanols/cocoa-flavanols/

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IS_dC76SPY

  • Just buy a big block of 200 grams bourneville plain from the confectionery aisle of the supermarket and eat 20 to 25 grams of it every day. It is bound to be healthier than consuming 50 grams of milk chocolate each day.

You don’t need to go to the health store to buy and then eat your dark chocolate.

  • I would kill for dark chocolate and Brazil nuts, there is something about this combination of the two tastes that explode on the taste buds that is far to good to be good for you, everybody knows healthy food tastes disgusting lol

  • Dark chocolate above 90% taste way to too bitter. What you can do is break them up and put them in plain Greek yogurt and it’ll lessen it. Plus you get the added benefits of probiotics

  • I eat 90% Dark Chocolate cut into little pieces and put them in my big Tupperware box along with mixed nuts, so every time I grab a hand full of nuts there might be a chance I get a bit of chocolate in it.

  • I love chocolate! The biggest problem with this is holding it down to one square at a time. I find it totally impossible! So, I’m getting more of a good thing I guess.

  • Thank you so much! I love chocolate and am happy to be able to include that in my diet! Who’d have thought? My question is about rise. I’m Asian and thrive on white rice. What are your thoughts about this? Thank you!

  • My doctor wants me to do a silver and aloe detox with charcoal. I cant find support for this anywhere and am skeptical. Please help

  • Without the stock video footage for example, the lady consuming the chocolate in slow motion when you mention consuming chocolate this video would make no sense to me at all.

  • Thank you for your honesty, Dr. Gundry. My beautiful wife and I enjoy the benefits of eating cacao chocolate. I laughed when you said where white chocolate belongs. I plan to watch more of your videos.

  • Please make a video about the supplements Dr. David Sinclair takes. Would like to know how and when and exactly with what he takes. Thank you sooo much.

  • I love dark chocolate, the Hershey dark chocolate I like a lot, but I’m eating dark chocolate along with spinach and a few other things to help with my Ed. I’m 66 years old and I have a terrible time with Ed, my greatest fear is to be alone

  • I work in a neurology clinic. The doctor I work for is excellent and I’d like to tell him about your work but I don’t know if he would be receptive. We have so many patients with neuropathy, dementia, headaches, and seizure disorders. I am his scribe, and it breaks my heart to hear the stories. Medications only mask their problems. Any tips on how to raise the topic gently? My email is [email protected] aol.com. Thank you, Dr. Gundry. I’m starting your plan and have already lost 5 pounds and feel great!

  • I have suffered with migraines for majority of my life and any type of chocolate is a trigger, although I love it.
    Any thoughts on substitutions?

  • Wasn’t chocolate a good source for L-tryptophan? A chemical used to make serotonin that enhance mood in people? Because I eat dark 85%+ chocolate for that reason.

  • Love the chocolate but dont count on it keeping you healthy. Any small side benefit would be offset by the increased calorie and sugar ingest. As the old saying goes moderation is .

  • Hi Dr Gundry and Team. I’d like to know more about: Overcalcification (in artheries, kidney stones, bone spurs), can the plant paradox program help?

  • the healthy stuff taste bad. i eat 85% dark chocolate 2 or 3 times a week. darker than that is difficult to taste. i hate it but i just eat it because i know its good for me.

  • Prunes + cocoa powder (100% pure): make a paste with the mixer and roll it like truffles over more cocoa powder.

  • Zenith Labs, I always love eating dark chocolate and it makes me feel good too. I always liked a mimimum of 70% cacao all the way up to 100% cacao. If my dark chocolate is under 70% cacao, then I will not like it. I don’t like too much sugar in my pure plain solid chocolate cocoa/cacao bars and I am not a very sweet man. I am telling you all the truth. Besides eating dark chocolate with 70 to 100% cocoa/cacao, I also like eating black licorice and drinking black coffee. I am only going to be nice if I eat something that matches my taste bud or else I am going to become a mean and a bitter person which is not necessary or needed but that’s who I am.

  • So theroretically you make high blood pressure medication out of something more natural? Even if it takes longer to work, lower blood pressure is still good and for people taking other meds, cacao isnt going to conflict with anything so it could be useful. Biggest problem with cacao is how its harvested. I love chocolate but not enough to buy it regularly and contribute to the mistreatment of other people.

  • I am from the Czech Republic and eat 20-30g of > 80% chocolate every single day. I feel no effects, but I LOVE the taste and it feels great to eat it:D. I am very slim and have no health issues. Felt slightly bad about it, thinking I should eat less, but now I don’t:D.

  • Hi Dr Gundry and Team. I’d like to know more about: Overcalcification (in artheries, kidney stones, bone spurs), can the plant paradox program help?

  • HU brand has AMAZING dark chocolates! They use small amount of coconut sugar which is a much better type of sugar. It’s vegan, so no milk. Often you can find them filled w nut butters. They are absolutely delicious. Also they are organic. No GMOs, no soy, no crap! Also they sell dark chocolate chips which I heard are delicious but I haven’t tried them yet myself. They are a bit more expensive but honestly it’s worth it.

  • I dont need an excuse i am under attack… and i dont eat milk chocolate…. ever… i ONLY eat dark chocolate…. and I mean ive resorted to 100% cacao….. yes i do eat it the way one eats a candy bar… im currently in overdrive

  • I love strawberry and orange dark chocolate <3 I love it so much more than milk chocolate. I like it from the brand Lindt the most:33

  • Does the brand and/or quality make a difference of the effectiveness of the consumption of dark chocolate? I buy no name brand dark chocolate and feed it to our 5 year old son who is in the Spectrum. I’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks now but haven’t seen a dramatic effect but I know dark chocolate won’t kill us. Plus I love chocolate, even if its dark chocolate. I’m a personal trainer starting my own business and plan on doing some bookkeeping studies to partner up with my wife in a bookkeeping business as well. I’ve been diagnosed with a moderate learning disability but that doesn’t stop me. My condition doesn’t stop me from learning, it just takes a bit longer than the average person. I hope this comment helps you understand who I am and where I am in life. Have a good day, take care

  • I have really been trying to change… but there is nothing I have read, so far, to substitute for bread, or did I miss that? Is there a “bread” i could make with tapioca flour or ground flaxseed or ground stonecut oats? I could use some help? DJ ([email protected])

  • I’ve noticed I don’t feel nearly as stressed/depressed whenever I eat a couple squares of dark chocolate. Wal-Mart sells a pretty good 90% bar.

  • 90% is just perfection! Granted it takes a while to get used to, but you begin to appreciate the hints of coffee and berries. I went from loving white chocolate to loving dark chocolate within a few months. I can eat 99 and 100% however only in small doses with strong coffee…so delicious!

  • Dr.Shelton: Thank you so much for posting this video.I am originally from -Munich; Germany, but now reside in Bedford,NH.Would you kindly list what in your opinion is an optimal amount of dark chocolate for one to consume on a daily basis -Kind regards for your help!

  • Honestly disappointed you guys didn’t mention thtmat you can buy raw cacao powder/nibs and get well over enough flavonoids and theobromine from just an ounce. It doesn’t taste great, but that doesnt matter imo.

  • Sorry but studies showing that chocolate, coffee or wine kill you / turn you into a happy genius are trash science. Its like exercise science they change their mind every month depending on which industry paid them to do the study. “This month you must do HIIT! This month, HIIT will give you cancer! Now this month you must take ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin! But now that doesn’t work and its gingko biloba! • I eat organic 99% I was so happy to find 99% although it is only found in independent grocery stores. So sometimes I skip out on it for a few weeks or just go for the Lindt 95% but it does have sugar in it.

  • I just added dark chocolate to my diet. I eat it with this really healthy popcorn and it definitely helps with my extreme cravings for unhealthy foods! I love it!!

  • Hi again! I would sure like to hear you talk about oxalates. I learned more about them when I was listening to from Sally Norton. (If anyone here has heard Dr. Gundry address oxalates would you please point me to that You Tube, or Podcast, or where ever else?) Thanks!

  • Here’s how to make chocolate good for your health.
Step 1: Believe that chocolate will improve your health.
    Step 2: Eat chocolate.
Step 3: Watch as the placebo effect improves your health.

  • Eating Lindt chilli dark chocolate makes me super turned on it’s even embarrassing when I am around my parents and siblings lol I can’t be the only one!!???

  • I just started eating dark chocolate. I eat the Dark Hershey but only about 2 or 3 squares. It seems that when I eat it, I get really sleepy. I was wondering if the alkali that’s in it could be doing it. It’s good as far as blood sugar.

  • i like chocolate because its its deliciously fatty, not because of all the sugar
but i also enjoy not having the overwhelming bitter

  • Of course chocolate’s good for you. It’s a good source of carbohydrates and fats, both of which are essential nutrients. Just don’t eat too much of it.

  • Hi thank you for the video. I love dark chocolate but how many squares am I allowed per day? And is it good to eat it every day or should it be less regularly than that? Thanks

  • Hello from Turkey. I love %80 dark chocolate and everyday eat about 50gr. I take 10mg hawaiian astaxanthin, 250mcg selenium and a good multivitamin with it. Plus about 5gr sumac in beetroot juice later in the day. What do u think?

  • yall are noobs i have been eating 99% dark for 7 years i now 14 and to tell i never knew 99% dark chocolate has health benifits i just eat for the taste gonna be honest i love 100% cocoa
