Weekly tips: https://www.russhowepti.com/newsletter So, should you drink coffee before a workout? Personal trainer Russ Howe PTI answers this question for you in today’s short clip from the gym reveals a surprising finding from a US study.. Study International Journal of Sports Medicine: The purpose of this study was to look at the sparing effects of caffeine on the utilization of muscle glycogen during 30 min of leg ergometer cycling (70% V̇O 2 max). A caffeine solution (250 ml; 5 ml/kg body weight) ingested 1 hour prior to exercise (CAF trial) decreased the use of muscle glycogen by 42% in 7 subjects when compared to a decaffeinated control trial (CON). There was a modest increase in serum FFA and muscle triglyceride use was 150% greater in the CAF as compared to the CON trial. Respiratory exchange during exercise also reflected a shift in carbon source from carbohydrate to lipid. Since known in vitro effects of caffeine include an increased use of muscle lipid and an inhibitory influence on phosphorylase a, it is suggested that the ergogenic effects of caffeine on endurance performance are, in part, the result of direct actions in muscle rather than solely to enhanced mobilization, uptake, and oxidation of blood-borne FFA.. However, caffeine (combined with carbohydrates) following exercise can help refill muscle glycogen faster than carbs alone.. Study Journal of Applied Physiology: The study was conducted on 7 well-trained endurance cyclists who participated in four sessions. The participants first rode a cycle ergometer until exhaustion, and then consumed a low-carbohydrate dinner before going home the exercise bout was designed to reduce the athletes’ muscle glycogen stores prior to the experimental trial the next day.. The athletes did not eat again until they returned to the lab the next day for the second session when they again cycled until exhaustion. They then ingested a drink that contained carbs alone or carbs plus caffeine and rested in the laboratory for four hours.. During this post-exercise rest time, the researchers took several muscle biopsies and multiple blood samples to measure the amount of glycogen being replenished in the muscle, along with the concentrations of glucose-regulating metabolites and hormones in the blood, including glucose and insulin.. The entire two-session process was repeated 7-10 days later the only difference was that this time, the athletes drank the beverage that they had not consumed in the previous trial (if they drank the carbohydrate alone in the first trial, they drank the carbohydrate plus caffeine in the second trial, and vice versa). Results: Glucose and insulin levels higher with caffeine ingestion with researchers finding one hour after exercise, muscle glycogen levels had replenished to the same extent whether or not the athlete had the drink containing carbohydrate and caffeine or carbohydrate only. throughout the four-hour recovery period, the caffeinated drink resulted in higher levels of blood glucose and plasma insulin.. four hours after exercise, the drink containing caffeine resulted in 66% higher glycogen levels compared to the carbohydrate-only drink.. Why This Is? One reason is that caffeine may aid in facilitating glucose uptake from the blood into the muscles as caffeine intake can acutely lower insulin sensitivity and increase glucose concentrations.. In addition, caffeine seems to increase the activity of several signaling enzymes, including the calcium-dependent protein kinase and protein kinase B (also called Akt), both which, when activated, trigger an uptake in muscle glucose during and after exercise.. Furthermore, caffeine activates AMPK, and activation of AMPK has also been deemed necessary for contraction-stimulated glucose transport into skeletal muscle.. Not too long after you finish that cup, as it turns out. If you’re looking to hit the gym when your caffeine boost is at its most powerful, you’re going to want to down a cup of joe roughly 45. Scientists at the University of Illinois found that consuming the caffeine equivalent of two to three cups of coffee one hour before a 30-minute bout of high-intensity exercise reduced perceived.
In one Journal of Pain study, drinking coffee 24 to 48 hours after exercise cut symptoms of delayed onset muscle soreness – that tight, achy feeling you get a couple days after a super-tough. Both Moreno and Thomas agree that the best time to drink coffee is well before the workout actually begins. You shouldn’t drink it when you’re sweating (at that point, your body needs water to re-hydrate—not coffee).
Thomas suggests having coffee 30-60 minutes prior to a workout, whereas Moreno suggest having coffee a little before that. Should You Drink Coffee Before Working Out? It’s estimated that 57% of American adults consume coffee every day. If you are one of those people, you likely rely on a daily cup of joe — and the caffeine it contains — to perk you up in the morning. You may even use it to give you an energy boost before working out or exercising.
“Caffeine is quickly absorbed from the stomach within 15 to 45 minutes of consumption, but it hits its peak stimulatory effects between 30 and 75 minutes,” she says. Drinking a cup about one hour before you work out is optimal, Skolnik says. You’ll want more fluids than just an eight-ounce mug of joe to get adequately prepped, though.
Potential benefits of drinking coffee before exercise According to Michels, “Consuming pre-workout caffeine may up your metabolism, suppress the effect on perceived exertion, improve microcirculation, and enhance your athletic performance. Coffee even offers an extra energy boost before exercise; recent research shows that drinking coffee before a workout can help it feel easier and less painful.
Believe it or not, having a cup of coffee before your workout may offer an extra fatburning boost simply because caffeine sparks adrenaline production.
In my experience, if I drink coffee in the morning, I get a great energy boost then, as well as some additional mental acuity, and it helps to access fat stores in the middle of the race.
so let me understand i need to drink 1 coffee pre-workout and then 1 coffee post-workout and after 4-6h eat a good amount of protein and littlebit carbs? (and afc all this after a fasting) am i correct?
Do you know it it also works with theobromine? I’m thinking of raw cacao for recovery. Cacao-banana-smoothie would be great but banana seems to contain lots of saccharose which isn’t preferred, right?
Tea also has theobromine so that’s also why I’m wondering. I’d prefer tea over coffee as it’s not that acidic for the stomach.
Should I not be consuming fats at this time? You say not to combine fats with carbs. If I drink a coffee with coconut oil and then 30 grams of carbs, is that a big no no?
Technically speaking, would you not want caffeine pre and post workout? Pre would mean less glycogen is used up and post would fill glycogen tremendously. Wouldn’t this cause an influx of carbs to spill over into fat since more carbs were preserved during the workout?
Hi there, Usually you should feel the difference about 2-3 weeks in, and get a noticeable difference (other people will notice) within the first month.
Thats great, but careful if your workout is in the evening, caffeine can get in the way of having a good night of sleep. Getting enough sleep consistently is more beneficial than having 66% more glycogen in your muscle. What he’s not saying is that the carb-caffeine drinks participants were given post-workout had the equivalent to 5-6 cups of coffee in them, which is a serious amount. It’s unclear if the glycogen storing effect is as strong with lower amounts of caffeine, according to the study.

Thank you for the information on calcium depletion, now I understand why my legs feel so drained of energy lately. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
What is your opinion about using cold coffee during workout? (Your videos are great and you already made post and pre-workout coffee, but not while training)
Was just thinking about this because my pre workout is almost gone. 37 dollars for 30 servings:< might start taking coffee instead before my workout. Also would you guys consider making a video about belts? Like how to properly use them, which kind to use, or when to actually use them. Oh and about different grips too!
Coffee with mct oil and collagen peptides with a dash of cinnamon and cacao about 15 mins after post workout keto meal and having trained fasted,,,,,,,you can literally feel the muscles swelling and the fat melting off you!! i do it 6 days a week!!

Great info!! I’m curious if you have any information on drinking coffee after taking creatine. I’ve heard the coffee cancels out the effects of creatine.
Brewed coffee tastes better in my opinion than instant coffee, but is there any difference in terms of results, when it comes to these health benefits of coffee?

Mr. DeLauer, I was wondering if this works if I am doing IF 16/8. I lift 5x a week and LISS for 3x a week. I stop eating at 8 pm, wake up and lift weights around 6 am and after my workout I stay fasted post workout until 12 am.
Can I drink coffee after my post workout? I would drink it somewhere around 9 am and stay fasted for 3 more hours before my first meal. Thank you!
man caffeine is shit, you get addicted to the shit and almost depend on it just like meth, like you need it to take up or to go to work. Cut it out in my opinion

@AnabolicAliens I’m new to your channel. What do you recommend I use in my coffee for extra boost of energy? Micronized creatine only? I really need energy to workout because my life depends on it. Also, what brand coffee you recommend?
YEY! I only chug coffee for pre-workout… Now I have an excuse to chug more coffee after workout… Hope I can sleep… LOL! Will try this out. Thanks, Mr. DeLauer!
Thanks for this! saved me some time emailing you guys. After hearing and seeing everyone mentioning pre-workouts i just got the impression it’s to just wake you up, make you alert and ready to workout. I thought well, I drink a lot of coffee, isn’t that just fine? I guess so. A lot of gyms have cafes/coffee shops.. Must be why.
how much do I need to wait to drink coffee before and after workout? it depends an muscle up or cardio exercise? and how much do I need to drink? (P.S. i make Intermittent Fasting)
But then again, if you get more pump, you tear the muscle that much more isnt it? then rebuild it and go again. So how that does not benefit us? I know its all synthetic.. and its bad.. but 50% or more stuff we buy probably are made in a lab.. I remember taking Jack3d original or sumperpumpMAX back in a day.. that stuff was a miracle! I know it was dusted.. but who cared:D
@Thomas De Lauer: how much coffee before and after work out? How long before work out I should drink my coffee (with coconut oil if I’m not fasting)? What about my whey isolate? After work out I should drink some coffee, then drink my whey protein and sweet potato to provide the glycogen?
Hi. my friends say that coffee should be drunk with sugar.that there would be a better coffee result. they heard it on television when a doctor told them. need or do not need sugar for coffee.. maybe you understand because I used google translate
Does this mean that i should consume caffeine/carbs 4 hours after workout for best uptake or I should consume them about an hour after and the benefits will hit 4 hours later? Please help. Thanks
Should I not be consuming fats at this time? You say not to combine fats with carbs. If I drink a coffee with coconut oil and then 30 grams of carbs, is that a big no no?
well its only supposed to be a small cup of black coffee 2030 mins before a workout so i never feel uneasy, i feel light and ready. for most people they’d rather just drink coffee instead of supp’s
how much do I need to wait to drink coffee before and after workout? it depends an muscle up or cardio exercise? and how much do I need to drink? (P.S. i make Intermittent Fasting)
Yep. That explains why having a black coffee on an empty stomach before a 10km run every morning followed by a leafy green salad helped me stay lean, fit & strong.
Could you maybe make a vid about keto-rash. i Love you in depth science-y take on this health lifestyle ive gone from 150kg to 110kg and love this. but the keto rash not so much if you have anything please share in a video:) thanks from denmark
I can see what you’re saying about coffee being true, and tablets n fat burners being better, ofcourse I don’t use any of those cos I’m too tight. Short little shot of black coffee, no more than a 3rd of a cup 30 minutes before I arrive and I’m good.
This video doesnt really elaborate on why you shouldnt drink coffee before a workout. If you eat a healthy meal and drink water with the coffee youre fine. Plus coffee is healthy is delicious.
Hi. my friends say that coffee should be drunk with sugar.that there would be a better coffee result. they heard it on television when a doctor told them. need or do not need sugar for coffee.. maybe you understand because I used google translate
Yes. Like any preworkout supplement, your body will adapt to it if used every day. If you fancy a ridiculously powerful change, try some pure caffeine alongside green tea.
plez plezz tell me when to take creatine.can i take creatine every day plezz jaldi tell me i need u r help and how to take with water or with any thing else thanku
Before even watching the video (commercial is running) I swear by coffee as a pre-workout. I would also say that coffee trumps all those expensive energy drinks in general.
i took a 200mg caffeine pill and got the best workout. its cheap and effective. i paid ten for 90. i ran 40 minutes hard on threadmill and dids weights for 40 minutes. no after effects or anything. then went home, ate 3 big pieces of fish and called it a day. i dont do coffee before workouts unless its one of those cold Chicago winter days that you just want that hot cup in your hands. it works for me. redbull and energy drinks dont compare to my caffeine tablet.
One cup of coffee has around 336 mg of caffeine. One shot of espresso has around 75 mg. You should really do your research before you say that you’d need 2-4 cups of coffee to get 200 mg of caffeine.
I like to drink alot of black coffe no suggar befor I work out only one full spoon by the way I work out 7:00 the morning to 9:00 but one day I felt good relly good so I went and did.my coffe and added 4full spoons of black coffe when I was working out I felt wiered/funny I had a iritation in my left face cheeck I looked at a mirror my.cheek was twiching teally hard I went.home for the day and I will never drink coffe again.
Drinking coffee has a direct effect on hormones, increases cortisol level. Research shows, increase in cortisol post workout leads to more stress. Stress = Muscle catabolism.
Ye it gives a boost, bit not like capucino, latte those r fkn joke…black strong coffee, and expect 2 much it aint a pw but coukd be good if u take more of it

Avg cup of coffee is usually around 60mg-100mg of caffeine. A lot of preworkouts also give you other supplements like creatine, AAKG, B vitamins, ect. The caffeine in coffee will give you a boost but it’s not the exact same as a pre workout mix.
Excellent Video and Content! Great material and very informative, I included this video in one of my recent blog posts highlighting pre-workout alternatives and Coffee is in my list of top 3 pre-workout alternatives. Thanks for the great vid! http://veganfitness.home.blog/2019/02/10/natural-pre-workout-alternatives-top-3-choices/
Wow. Awesome film. My good friend used to be an overweight boy. He went from 290 lbs of pure fat to 200 lbs of absolute muscle mass. I found myself blown away. I just joined personally because I would like to maximize my entire body. He used the Muscle Building Bible (Look in Google)…
When I’m cutting I have chicken 1 hour, vegetables half hour and a pice of whole grain crisp bread along with a coffee 10 minuets before I bike and lift. 1 cup does a good amount for me because I do not normally drink much.
here’s a small tip alter black coffee with beet juice and do this alternative day, and no addiction both are kind of similar with their components, so you don’t always hv to rely upon coffee, as too much is also not good, (what I do is instead of beet juicr I boil it and hv it 45 mins before workout, as to juice any fruit u hv to do a whole lot of work after u use the juicer, give it a shot):)
Brewed coffee tastes better in my opinion than instant coffee, but is there any difference in terms of results, when it comes to these health benefits of coffee?
20-30 min before workout have a cup of coffee with 2 1/2 tablespoons of coffee, 2 tablespoons of sugar and a little milk and drink it then go and smoke a cigarette and BAM before you know it you’ll be working out for a couple hours without even noticing.
plez plezz tell me when to take creatine.can i take creatine every day plezz jaldi tell me i need u r help and how to take with water or with any thing else thanku
when I can afford it, I take both. C4 was pretty good. ON platinum didn’t give me that boost. Id have to take it more to get a better handle on it. Being a poor single Dad, I’m just taking creatine, and the occasional redbull.

Idk man I prefer preworkout because coffee just sucks all the hydration out of me and c4 preworkout gives me energy but also makes me feel better than coffee it’s like energy being added to my body nothing else rather than energy being added but taking my hydration away

Cycling in green tea for coffee half the time probably gives 90% of possible benefit without the mild caffeine side effects that bug me. Not getting up to pee just those couple extra times is worth it alone. Plus green tea has it’s own unique micro nutients, so get the pros of both even easier. Cold green tea is easy to sip on mixed into a keto lemonade or similar.
Would it be ok to mix like a tablespoon of my BCAA in my cup of black coffee before my workout? Or should I just stick with black coffee and get rid of my amino acids?? Thank you in advance.
So if you prioritize staying in ketosis, then avoiding caffeine before the workout and taking it only after would make sense, no? Because without caffeine preworkout, you will use more glycogen and therefore have more to replenish postworkout. Then caffeine and carbs postworkout will go to better use. Does this make sense? If caffeine is taken before workout, you will not have used as much glycogen, and won’t use as many of the carbs to replenish muscle glycogen?
I’m like most other mooks out there and have used dozens of different pre-workout brands. Always searching for that magic one. Then I watch this. It makes all the sense in the world so here’s the deal, I now use 3 teaspoons of instant coffee to 16oz water, add it to my drink shaker and in the fridge over night. One scoop of creatine and 1 scoop of protein powder ( I prefer the vanilla) for flavoring. I drink that on the way to the gym. This tastes good and works as well or better than any pre-workout powder I’ve used. A BCAA drink while working out in the same shaker and then a creatine and protein powder for the ride home. The cost difference? Up to $40 for the JYM pre-workout vs $3.94 Kroger Instant with 270 servings or 90 the way I make it.
Some thoughts on mg of caffeine would be helpful before and after. I’m an energy drink consumer and coffee drinkerI’ve tried different supplements and herbs, but I come back to caffeine every time.
What would you guys recommend for someone like me who has to hit the gym after work? I don’t get off till 8pm. There is this new pre workout called 4 gauge I have been wanting to try. They claim to be natural.
This is a question that nothing has to do with this video. I have scoliosis and muscular imbalances and I don’t know how to activate a few muscle groups… I hope you could help me with this issue it’s just I’m doing a tricep pushdown I just feel my right longhead and my left lateral head + medium and the thing is the muscles are bigger….. That’s why I’m contacting you
I don’t use energy or pre workout now but I’m in my 50s,,,but yes used to use any energy drink I could lay my hands on,,,I started with Red Kick here in England around early 90s,,,now just use coffee,,,incidentally before NRG drink’s Russian manual workers would drink coke with cpl spoons of coffee for energy,I never tried it,,,however I have two spoons coffee in small coffee cup and works well,,though best get quality coffee or esspresso,,,,I used to have DBL coffee DBL sugar,,,,,,,but given up sugar as doing Keto, waterfast,ADF same as on “Scott the truck Drivers”channel and lost 24lbs,,,,,,,,wishing you all a GREAT day,,,
A question popped into my mind, here it goes: coffee has alot of antioxidants. But post-workout you should have the least amount of AO, since the body should have to heal itself. What do you think about that?
Hey,i am skinny fat right now ☹,what should i do to get out of it?how can i make those abs n chest visible? My chest is something different like nipples are slightly up (like in the middle) as compared to u?plz suggest me to overcome this
Actually it depends on what kind of brew the coffee is but some are more concentrated and can contain just as much or even more than 200mg of caffeine that you find in alot of pre-workouts. I think Death Wish Coffee has some bat shit crazy amount… like 650 mg in one 12 oz. cup.

coffee is far healthier to drink no doubt but you wont get nearly as much of a pump workout though. I prefer pre workouts for taste variety alone and for the added stuff for helping your performance overall.
Also guys I should have mentioned. This is for BLACK coffee. NO SWEETENERS, MILK, OR CREAM. Also another point is remember that almost all pre-workout supplements have artificial sweeteners too!:D
Question is, how much coffee should people take? I’m going to get off the Pre-Workout powders. Today I felt a really weird and strong & single heart beat while working out, that it freaked me out. The weird thing is that I was on C4 Ultimate & I only drank half a scoop which should be around 150mg of caffeine since a whole scoop has 300mg. I think the time to stop drinking these powders have come sigh What do you guys think about Green Tea? I heard it has around 15mg of caffeine.

So overall, will I get more benefits from drinking coffee before working out or after? If you have coffee right before your workout you still should be able to benefit from the after-workout effects right?
Yes, Plenty of protein, complex carbs and healthy fats. Foods like oats, brown rice, chicken, fish, lean meat. Cut down on sugary junk foods and takeaway food. You won’t be able to see your six pack if it’s covered in layers of fat.

Sir i have started taking Ultimate nutrition prostar whey protein.. Post workout from 22nd aug 14.. My weight is 106 kg and i m 6.1ft tall My question to you is that when will I’ll be able to see some results, as i workout 6 days a week each body part separately on each day. Black coffee, preworkout always makes me feel like a crack head and it makes me hella tachycardic I feel hella zoned in w black coffee and no stomachache

100% fact. I’m a cyclist and raced competitively in criterium for 3 years straight. During training, post rides solo or with my group rides My self and my mate would always have a cup of coffee and even eat pizza. The next morning we would crush out the climbs. I know this is more on caffeine but would love your take on sugar. Because before races I would switch between caffeine or brown sugar mixed in my water bottles.
YEY! I only chug coffee for pre-workout… Now I have an excuse to chug more coffee after workout… Hope I can sleep… LOL! Will try this out. Thanks, Mr. DeLauer!
Caffeine pills have done nothing for me. Zip, Zero not a blasted thing. No effect at all. Haven’t really tried coffee much, but I doubt it will affect me much either. Obviously my body just doesn’t react strongly to caffeine. Seems some people don’t.
i dont get it. Why in one of your videos youre saying that coffee and carbohydrates is a bad combination and in this is magically become two best friends?

Mike can your next video be “how to avoid a hernia?” I think I got one when I deadlifted with my back when I didn’t have any knowledge and I’m only 15 so I’m not sure if it’s a hernia, I don’t want to mention it to my parents. Thanks.
Does this mean that i should consume caffeine/carbs 4 hours after workout for best uptake or I should consume them about an hour after and the benefits will hit 4 hours later? Please help. Thanks

Man, I don’t drink coffee and today I took my first pre work-out and it was with caffeine and creatine and some other shit. I didn’t realize that the dose its too high for someone with 0 tolerance to caffeine like me. I just took a scoop, which was basically 2 scoops, because it had a little mountain on top and I put it in my usual morning fruit smoothie. First 15 min it was good, but then I went crazy and I’m glad I was working out at home, because I ended up rolling in the floor in a fetal position, thinking that I was going to die! I need to be more careful.
Hi there, Usually you should feel the difference about 2-3 weeks in, and get a noticeable difference (other people will notice) within the first month.

What is your opinion about using cold coffee during workout? (Your videos are great and you already made post and pre-workout coffee, but not while training)

Personally, I drink a cup of espresso, 4,000mg of L-Citrulline (with 16-24oz of water), and BCAA w/ L-Glutamine (chased with cold-pressed orange-juice) before every workout. Works like a charm. Also, drinking cold-pressed watermelon juice intra workout keeps me hydrated and increase my endurance.
I smoke a small amount of medical grade marijuana Then I snort a line of cocaine mixed with meth and Mr. Hyde I then incline bench press 6 plates (each side) with no belt or wrist/elbow wraps and no warmup After I do 4 sets of 12 reps I mix a whole container of creatine monohydrate with a tub of maltodextrin and whey protein into 5 ninja blenders and chug all of them in a row I then sprint 30 miles with no warmup or cooldown I did this for one day and gained 30 lbs of pure muscle mass I then go to bed and hibernate for 6 months to recover from my INTENSE workout and build an additional 20 lbs of pure muscle mass as I inject and IV of BCAA’s directly into my bloodstream for those 6 months I am also dead

Thank you!
Can I drink Tea…before or after the workout…I do have this habit of drinking a cup of tea after coming from Gym…but only after 10-15 minutes after I come from Gym…..and in-between those 10-15 minutes I drink around a 1/2 to 1 litre of water…
man caffeine is shit, you get addicted to the shit and almost depend on it just like meth, like you need it to take up or to go to work. Cut it out in my opinion
Thank you for the information on calcium depletion, now I understand why my legs feel so drained of energy lately. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Caffeine pills have done nothing for me. Zip, Zero not a blasted thing. No effect at all. Haven’t really tried coffee much, but I doubt it will affect me much either. Obviously my body just doesn’t react strongly to caffeine. Seems some people don’t.
Before even watching the video (commercial is running) I swear by coffee as a pre-workout. I would also say that coffee trumps all those expensive energy drinks in general.
That’s why I’m contacting you
I don’t use energy or pre workout now but I’m in my 50s,,,but yes used to use any energy drink I could lay my hands on,,,I started with Red Kick here in England around early 90s,,,now just use coffee,,,incidentally before NRG drink’s Russian manual workers would drink coke with cpl spoons of coffee for energy,I never tried it,,,however I have two spoons coffee in small coffee cup and works well,,though best get quality coffee or esspresso,,,,I used to have DBL coffee DBL sugar,,,,,,,but given up sugar as doing Keto, waterfast,ADF same as on “Scott the truck Drivers”channel and lost 24lbs,,,,,,,,wishing you all a GREAT day,,,
Personally, I drink a cup of espresso, 4,000mg of L-Citrulline (with 16-24oz of water), and BCAA w/ L-Glutamine (chased with cold-pressed orange-juice) before every workout. Works like a charm. Also, drinking cold-pressed watermelon juice intra workout keeps me hydrated and increase my endurance.
Hey,i am skinny fat right now ☹,what should i do to get out of it?how can i make those abs n chest visible? My chest is something different like nipples are slightly up (like in the middle) as compared to u?plz suggest me to overcome this
Mike can your next video be “how to avoid a hernia?” I think I got one when I deadlifted with my back when I didn’t have any knowledge and I’m only 15 so I’m not sure if it’s a hernia, I don’t want to mention it to my parents. Thanks.
Was just thinking about this because my pre workout is almost gone. 37 dollars for 30 servings:< might start taking coffee instead before my workout. Also would you guys consider making a video about belts? Like how to properly use them, which kind to use, or when to actually use them. Oh and about different grips too!
Also guys I should have mentioned. This is for BLACK coffee. NO SWEETENERS, MILK, OR CREAM. Also another point is remember that almost all pre-workout supplements have artificial sweeteners too!:D
so let me understand i need to drink 1 coffee pre-workout and then 1 coffee post-workout and after 4-6h eat a good amount of protein and littlebit carbs? (and afc all this after a fasting) am i correct?
Hey Thomas, i hope you can answer me on this.
How many carbs are we talking about when it comes to post workout, because i’m a little skeptical of kicking my body out of ketosis?
Hello Thomas!
Hi there,
Usually you should feel the difference about 2-3 weeks in, and get a noticeable difference (other people will notice) within the first month.

Is it safe, again I am on weightloss plan
And seriously dieting on fixiny myself to strick diet plan is impossible.
coffee will help me if I consume after my exercise?
I required to reduce nearly 20kg within month 2 month!

Coffee with mct oil and collagen peptides with a dash of cinnamon and cacao about 15 mins after post workout keto meal and having trained fasted,,,,,,,you can literally feel the muscles swelling and the fat melting off you!! i do it 6 days a week!!
Hi Raghav,
Can I drink Tea…before or after the workout…I do have this habit of drinking a cup of tea after coming from Gym…but only after 10-15 minutes after I come from Gym…..and in-between those 10-15 minutes I drink around a 1/2 to 1 litre of water…
Is this habit correct…or should I change it??
Ok I finished post workout coffee with cream, coconut oil and 1 scoop protein!my doubt Is breakfast necessary after post workout BPC
HELP…I am trying to do KETO and Fasting. My workout is at 6am. How can I don’t caffeine and CARBS as a post workout…if I am not to break my fast until 11am? This has always been my challenge. The timing of my workout with my meals..
Some thoughts on mg of caffeine would be helpful before and after. I’m an energy drink consumer and coffee drinkerI’ve tried different supplements and herbs, but I come back to caffeine every time.
Summary:
Caffeine as a Pre & Posts Training/Workout is Great for increased Muscle Mass, Fat Loss, Mental and Physical Performance and Recovery

Caffine is poison. U dont need caffine with work outs u drink water then after uhave a protein shake, caffine is terrible totally
I am not able to draw conculsion from the video whether i shouldtake caffine pre workoyt or post workoutgor fat loss….cz i don’t want to increase my carbs level…i just want to reduce fat…can anyone plz clear my doubt???

Perfect since I ❤️ coffee!
Question… will drinking coffee in the morning with only one tablespoon of half and half and 1 packet of stevia break me out of fasting?
Thanks
Can I take creatine with carbs + caffeine post workout? And All the best Sir, very close to the 1 million extended family. Congratulations in advance!
Should I not be consuming fats at this time? You say not to combine fats with carbs. If I drink a coffee with coconut oil and then 30 grams of carbs, is that a big no no?

Russ
So dumb how many people come on to others channel & leave negative comments….if they bother you so much why are you trolling there channel.
plez plezz tell me when to take creatine.can i take creatine every day
plezz jaldi tell me i need u r help and how to take with water or with any thing else
thanku
Hey Thomas, i hope you can answer me on this.
How many carbs are we talking about when it comes to post workout, because i’m a little skeptical of kicking my body out of ketosis?
also ive been going to the gym for a week now and i was just wondering how long would it be to see results because ive seen no results so far
Never got creatine because I thought it caused hair loss, guess not haha. Gonna buy some tonight and start putting it in my coffee.
Before even watching the video (commercial is running) I swear by coffee as a pre-workout. I would also say that coffee trumps all those expensive energy drinks in general.
I drink 3x 8 oz cups of coffee when I wake up I feel super hot sweaty and chaffee really bad I get anxiety but I’m jacked for energy
Whats a good alternative to coffee? It stopped working for me (I need like 600mg to get the same effects that I used to get from 50g)
I just saw this video and I have to ask; does decaf coffee work the same way post-workout? Late evening workouts and caffeine won’t work. Thanks
i took a 200mg caffeine pill and got the best workout. its cheap and effective. i paid ten for 90. i ran 40 minutes hard on threadmill and dids weights for 40 minutes. no after effects or anything. then went home, ate 3 big pieces of fish and called it a day. i dont do coffee before workouts unless its one of those cold Chicago winter days that you just want that hot cup in your hands. it works for me. redbull and energy drinks dont compare to my caffeine tablet.
So is it safe to say, black coffee before workout and keto coffee afterwards? My keto coffee would be meal replacement for breakfast.
Is it safe, again I am on weightloss plan
And seriously dieting on fixiny myself to strick diet plan is impossible.
coffee will help me if I consume after my exercise?
I required to reduce nearly 20kg within month 2 month!
After a day, coffee didn’t work for me anymore.
Everybody responds differently to things.
Which is why there are pre workouts.
And drugs.
Ye it gives a boost, bit not like capucino, latte those r fkn joke…black strong coffee, and expect 2 much it aint a pw but coukd be good if u take more of it
Ye it gives a boost, bit not like capucino, latte those r fkn joke…black strong coffee, and expect 2 much it aint a pw but coukd be good if u take more of it
Avg cup of coffee is usually around 60mg-100mg of caffeine.
Yes I agree cant even believe it. even i was very sad since i workout well for abs but nothing was coming.
And in a best female model 2012 exclusive interview she had mentioned about her strong abs with this 7 food items.
if you are serious go for it now bit.ly/18AEnrf?=xdtry
20-30 min before workout have a cup of coffee with 2 1/2 tablespoons of coffee, 2 tablespoons of sugar and a little milk and drink it then go and smoke a cigarette and BAM before you know it you’ll be working out for a couple hours without even noticing.
plez plezz tell me when to take creatine.can i take creatine every day

Thomas that body of yours is something else. You are damn cute and i really enjoy the way you explain all of your video contents thoroughly.
when I can afford it, I take both. C4 was pretty good. ON platinum didn’t give me that boost. Id have to take it more to get a better handle on it. Being a poor single Dad, I’m just taking creatine, and the occasional redbull.

Idk man I prefer preworkout because coffee just sucks all the hydration out of me and c4 preworkout gives me energy but also makes me feel better than coffee it’s like energy being added to my body nothing else rather than energy being added but taking my hydration away
coffee is not bad specially mixed with protein powder and MiO Energy assume most tasting energize also drink creatine and use energy pills

Thomas that body of yours is something else. You are damn cute and i really enjoy the way you explain all of your video contents thoroughly.

What would you guys recommend for someone like me who has to hit the gym after work? I don’t get off till 8pm. There is this new pre workout called 4 gauge I have been wanting to try. They claim to be natural.

I’m drugging up pre during and post workout LOL, wonder how weed affects this because I love running high, will also go high 2 the gym sometimes

Yes, unless you want to be out of shape but with bulky arms. If you’re waiting for me to give you an easy solution, I won’t do that.
Yes,
Plenty of protein, complex carbs and healthy fats. Foods like oats, brown rice, chicken, fish, lean meat. Cut down on sugary junk foods and takeaway food. You won’t be able to see your six pack if it’s covered in layers of fat.
Hi I found your post workout coffee video very relevant to an article I just published on my site so I have embedded it here.

Sir i have started taking Ultimate nutrition prostar whey protein.. Post workout from 22nd aug 14..
My weight is 106 kg and i m 6.1ft tall
My question to you is that when will I’ll be able to see some results, as i workout 6 days a week each body part separately on each day. Along with 30 mins of cardio
@AnabolicAliens I’m new to your channel. What do you recommend I use in my coffee for extra boost of energy? Micronized creatine only? I really need energy to workout because my life depends on it. Also, what brand coffee you recommend?

Sir i have started taking Ultimate nutrition prostar whey protein.. Post workout from 22nd aug 14..
My weight is 106 kg and i m 6.1ft tall
My question to you is that when will I’ll be able to see some results, as i workout 6 days a week each body part separately on each day. Along with 30 mins of cardio
Can I take creatine with carbs + caffeine post workout? And All the best Sir, very close to the 1 million extended family. Congratulations in advance!
Good info. i had to put a side my pre workout now that im diagnosed with hypothyroidism. So far, coffee is my only pre workout option as per the doc.
Perfect since I ❤️ coffee!
Question… will drinking coffee in the morning with only one tablespoon of half and half and 1 packet of stevia break me out of fasting?
Actually it depends on what kind of brew the coffee is but some are more concentrated and can contain just as much or even more than 200mg of caffeine that you find in alot of pre-workouts. I think Death Wish Coffee has some bat shit crazy amount… like 650 mg in one 12 oz. cup.
What would you guys recommend for someone like me who has to hit the gym after work? I don’t get off till 8pm. There is this new pre workout called 4 gauge I have been wanting to try. They claim to be natural.
@Thomas De Lauer: how much coffee before and after work out? How long before work out I should drink my coffee (with coconut oil if I’m not fasting)?
What about my whey isolate?
After work out I should drink some coffee, then drink my whey protein and sweet potato to provide the glycogen?
Mike can your next video be “how to avoid a hernia?” I think I got one when I deadlifted with my back when I didn’t have any knowledge and I’m only 15 so I’m not sure if it’s a hernia, I don’t want to mention it to my parents. Thanks.
Does this mean that i should consume caffeine/carbs 4 hours after workout for best uptake or I should consume them about an hour after and the benefits will hit 4 hours later? Please help. Thanks
Yes,
Plenty of protein, complex carbs and healthy fats. Foods like oats, brown rice, chicken, fish, lean meat. Cut down on sugary junk foods and takeaway food. You won’t be able to see your six pack if it’s covered in layers of fat.
Drinking coffee has a direct effect on hormones, increases cortisol level. Research shows, increase in cortisol post workout leads to more stress. Stress = Muscle catabolism.
So we are going to break our fast by carbs and when does protein comes into action? And what type of carbs we are talking about and how we gonna stack it with coffee?
So overall, will I get more benefits from drinking coffee before working out or after? If you have coffee right before your workout you still should be able to benefit from the after-workout effects right?
Yep. That explains why having a black coffee on an empty stomach before a 10km run every morning followed by a leafy green salad helped me stay lean, fit & strong.
Could you maybe make a vid about keto-rash. i Love you in depth science-y take on this health lifestyle ive gone from 150kg to 110kg and love this. but the keto rash not so much if you have anything please share in a video:) thanks from denmark
i dont get it. Why in one of your videos youre saying that coffee and carbohydrates is a bad combination and in this is magically become two best friends?
This video doesnt really elaborate on why you shouldnt drink coffee before a workout. If you eat a healthy meal and drink water with the coffee youre fine. Plus coffee is healthy is delicious.
Would it be ok to mix like a tablespoon of my BCAA in my cup of black coffee before my workout? Or should I just stick with black coffee and get rid of my amino acids?? Thank you in advance.
Yes. Like any preworkout supplement, your body will adapt to it if used every day. If you fancy a ridiculously powerful change, try some pure caffeine alongside green tea.
Russ
Great video Thomas. But how much Caffeine should be taken pre and post workout as supplements range anywhere between 250mg to 400 or more in one dose.
Hi there,
Usually you should feel the difference about 2-3 weeks in, and get a noticeable difference (other people will notice) within the first month.
So is it safe to say, black coffee before workout and keto coffee afterwards? My keto coffee would be meal replacement for breakfast.
Wow. Awesome film. My good friend used to be an overweight boy. He went from 290 lbs of pure fat to 200 lbs of absolute muscle mass. I found myself blown away. I just joined personally because I would like to maximize my entire body. He used the Muscle Building Bible (Look in Google)…
Must be why.
i took a 200mg caffeine pill and got the best workout. its cheap and effective. i paid ten for 90. i ran 40 minutes hard on threadmill and dids weights for 40 minutes. no after effects or anything. then went home, ate 3 big pieces of fish and called it a day. i dont do coffee before workouts unless its one of those cold Chicago winter days that you just want that hot cup in your hands. it works for me. redbull and energy drinks dont compare to my caffeine tablet.

I just saw this video and I have to ask; does decaf coffee work the same way post-workout? Late evening workouts and caffeine won’t work. Thanks
After a day, coffee didn’t work for me anymore.
Everybody responds differently to things.
Which is why there are pre workouts.
And drugs.
What is your opinion about using cold coffee during workout?
(Your videos are great and you already made post and pre-workout coffee, but not while training)
Good info. i had to put a side my pre workout now that im diagnosed with hypothyroidism. So far, coffee is my only pre workout option as per the doc.
Avg cup of coffee is usually around 60mg-100mg of caffeine. A lot of preworkouts also give you other supplements like creatine, AAKG, B vitamins, ect. The caffeine in coffee will give you a boost but it’s not the exact same as a pre workout mix.
A question popped into my mind, here it goes: coffee has alot of antioxidants. But post-workout you should have the least amount of AO, since the body should have to heal itself. What do you think about that?
Personally, I drink a cup of espresso, 4,000mg of L-Citrulline (with 16-24oz of water), and BCAA w/ L-Glutamine (chased with cold-pressed orange-juice) before every workout. Works like a charm. Also, drinking cold-pressed watermelon juice intra workout keeps me hydrated and increase my endurance.
I smoke a small amount of medical grade marijuana
Then I snort a line of cocaine mixed with meth and Mr. Hyde
I then incline bench press 6 plates (each side) with no belt or wrist/elbow wraps and no warmup
After I do 4 sets of 12 reps I mix a whole container of creatine monohydrate with a tub of maltodextrin and whey protein into 5 ninja blenders and chug all of them in a row
I then sprint 30 miles with no warmup or cooldown
I did this for one day and gained 30 lbs of pure muscle mass
I then go to bed and hibernate for 6 months to recover from my INTENSE workout and build an additional 20 lbs of pure muscle mass as I inject and IV of BCAA’s directly into my bloodstream for those 6 months
I am also dead
When I’m cutting I have chicken 1 hour, vegetables half hour and a pice of whole grain crisp bread along with a coffee 10 minuets before I bike and lift. 1 cup does a good amount for me because I do not normally drink much.
here’s a small tip alter black coffee with beet juice and do this alternative day, and no addiction both are kind of similar with their components, so you don’t always hv to rely upon coffee, as too much is also not good, (what I do is instead of beet juicr I boil it and hv it 45 mins before workout, as to juice any fruit u hv to do a whole lot of work after u use the juicer, give it a shot):)
coffee is far healthier to drink no doubt but you wont get nearly as much of a pump workout though. I prefer pre workouts for taste variety alone and for the added stuff for helping your performance overall.
20-30 min before workout have a cup of coffee with 2 1/2 tablespoons of coffee, 2 tablespoons of sugar and a little milk and drink it then go and smoke a cigarette and BAM before you know it you’ll be working out for a couple hours without even noticing.
Thank you!
Yes, unless you want to be out of shape but with bulky arms. If you’re waiting for me to give you an easy solution, I won’t do that.
Hi Raghav,
Can I drink Tea…before or after the workout…I do have this habit of drinking a cup of tea after coming from Gym…but only after 10-15 minutes after I come from Gym…..and in-between those 10-15 minutes I drink around a 1/2 to 1 litre of water…
Is this habit correct…or should I change it??
man caffeine is shit, you get addicted to the shit and almost depend on it just like meth, like you need it to take up or to go to work. Cut it out in my opinion
Thank you for the information on calcium depletion, now I understand why my legs feel so drained of energy lately. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Idk man I prefer preworkout because coffee just sucks all the hydration out of me and c4 preworkout gives me energy but also makes me feel better than coffee it’s like energy being added to my body nothing else rather than energy being added but taking my hydration away
coffee is not bad specially mixed with protein powder and MiO Energy assume most tasting energize also drink creatine and use energy pills
Coffee with mct oil and collagen peptides with a dash of cinnamon and cacao about 15 mins after post workout keto meal and having trained fasted,,,,,,,you can literally feel the muscles swelling and the fat melting off you!! i do it 6 days a week!!
Black coffee, preworkout always makes me feel like a crack head and it makes me hella tachycardic I feel hella zoned in w black coffee and no stomachache
well its only supposed to be a small cup of black coffee 2030 mins before a workout so i never feel uneasy, i feel light and ready. for most people they’d rather just drink coffee instead of supp’s
Great info!! I’m curious if you have any information on drinking coffee after taking creatine. I’ve heard the coffee cancels out the effects of creatine.
Summary:
Caffeine as a Pre & Posts Training/Workout is Great for increased Muscle Mass, Fat Loss, Mental and Physical Performance and Recovery
Hi I found your post workout coffee video very relevant to an article I just published on my site so I have embedded it here.
https://pinoyathletics.info/is-coffee-good-for-you-or-not/
This is a question that nothing has to do with this video.

Hey,i am skinny fat right now ☹,what should i do to get out of it?how can i make those abs n chest visible? My chest is something different like nipples are slightly up (like in the middle) as compared to u?plz suggest me to overcome this

also ive been going to the gym for a week now and i was just wondering how long would it be to see results because ive seen no results so far
