Here are four areas probiotics could make the biggest impact on performance: Digestion: High-impact sports like running put stress on the gastric system, this combined with the intake of processed Immunity: Athletes are at higher risk of upper respiratory infections than the general public as. Working out can boost your amount of beneficial gut bacteria species, enrich your microbiota diversity and help in the development of new bacteria, according to a March 2017 article in Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity. Prebiotics are nondigestible food substances that enhance the effects of probiotics by helping them thrive and stay active. Foods such as bananas, chia seeds, wheat, onions, chicory and artichokes are all sources of prebiotics. If you’re looking for an easy way to lose weight, one highly overlooked game changer in achieving permanent weight loss is improving the health of your gut If you’re looking for an easy way to lose weight, one highly overlooked game changer in achieving permanent weight loss is improving the health of your gut microbiome.

According to new research presented at UEG Week 2019, consuming plant-based foods or foods part of the Mediterranean diet can help improve gut health. Incorporating foods such as fish, legume. Research suggests that regularly consuming probiotics – the good bacteria that occur naturally in fermented foods – may strengthen the gut’s lining and lower inflammation throughout the bod. Simply put, probiotics contain live bacteria that are meant to help populate “good” bacteria in your gut microbiome. The idea behind probiotics is.

7 Things you can do for your gut health 1. Lower your stress levels. Chronic high levels of stress are hard on your whole body, including your gut. Some ways to 2. Get enough sleep. Not getting enough or sufficient quality of sleep can have serious impacts on your gut health. How to Heal Your Gut: 5 Simple Ways to Improve Gut Health.

Your gut is home to to 100 trillion bacteria — and hundreds of golf cases of canned light beer. Come on’ you’re not fooling anybody with the baggy clothes. Too many nights at BW3’s with hotwings, pitchers and big screen sports (when that was still a thing FU 2020) can really catch up with you quickly.

They contain a great source of prebiotics to help out your gut and keep things running smoothly on our insides. Plus, lentil dahl is dahl-icious. Rosemary the delicious herb, is an example of an adaptogen that has been used for centuries for its stress-relieving and immune-boosting qualities.

  • Loved this brilliant talk. So clearly announciated. Such an important subject and so much potential for improving our health. This is really the common denominator for all the other dietary discussions.

  • Wowza! Beautiful presentation. Take away is less take away. Eat more whole foods, get regular exercise, good sleep and enough water.

  • It seems that the state of the art has not changed much since those similar videos uplifted in 2006-8, except perhaps for the numbers. Ah well, scientists do not seem to pay much attention to numbers anyway.  Sheena is a nice looking girl though. I like red heads from Manchester… they remind me of the good old days as a student at the Lanchester Polytechnic of Coventry.

  • There was a man who ate nothing but potatoes as a resistant starch diet. His gut microbiome was more diverse from eating just one food than eating many different foods

  • It worries me that every time I hear a “scientist” informing about the number of cells in the body, they give different numbers:
27 Trillion, “38 Trillion”, 70 Trillion, 82 Trillion and even 100 Trillion!  How can each scientist be so astronomically wrong?
In addition, although these famous scientists generally agree in the 10% figure, they never mention the size of the cells. Therefore the question remains whether it is a 10% of the volume of the human body, as they lead us to believe, or, weather it is only a 10% of the number of cells. Considering that cells sizes can also vary astronomically, all the above leaves us with a surprising disappointment about the seriousness of scientists.
Furthermore,  we also hear that “Water” constitutes 90 to 99 percent of the volume of the human body and that water molecules are much smaller than organic cells. Therefore we can infer that water-molecules are not considered in the body-cells count.
In short, either I am going demented, or, these famous scientists are more confused than a fish trying to swim in the middle of the desert.

  • Enemas and colonics are necessary to remove impacted feces from body. Antibiotics and aspartame will kill all your gut bacteria. It may take two years to repopulate intestine.

  • After going vegan, I havent caught a single cold or flu, cured my own allergies, anxiety, carpal tunnel, eczema, and my poo smells like food!

  • its obvious that she’s not only brilliant but makes the most to the point, informative videos on the YT platform…..but that being said….OMG her hair is amazing.

  • I know my gut bacteria is healthy, because after taking a shit, I scoop it up and talk to it.

Mr. Poopie gave me plans for world domination, so I will be your lord and master in the near future. Please don’t share this, it’s a special secret only for those who clicked on the “read more.”

  • Foods like these (that you mention in the video!) have medicinal properties. So important to aim for organic, GMO-free and clean foods. when you eat conventionally grown foods, you’re also ingesting toxins (including pesticides) added to them in the production process, or from environmental pollution. Many of these toxins cause an invader-fighting response from your white blood cells, which contributes to inflammation!

  • I saw a documentary on the gut and if you want to increase your good bacteria in your gut, eat porridge every morning and supplement it with fruit throughout your day, plus vary your diet don’t eat the same things for dinner, and that’s it

  • This guy smacks of a completely biased agenda to sell his product. He makes patently false statements, such as how they now have the ability to determine when someone will die within a couple years. I call total B.S.

  • Free PSA of what has worked for me: yams, onions, pineapple, fish, variety of simple herbs and spices like mustard, olive oil, Greek yogurt (minimal sugar), 1500 mg salt a day max, canned goods with less than five ingredients, 70-100 oz of fresh, clean tap water, 32 oz coffee, tea (132 oz / day total), variety of colorful fresh fruits and vegetables, handful almonds, beans. aim for 50% carbs, 30% good fats, 20% protein. at least 20-40 min walks 5x a week, after dinner if possible. 1 hour Prepreping meals a day. Rarely ate out until developed understanding of how to order foods for health. broke 3 meals into six meals a day (eaten every 2-3 hrs). Practiced to get ratios right for me. Counted (Everything!!) Regular visits to dentist!! Does what makes one feel, act and look healthier and pH balanced. even works to a healthier personal weight. Y’all welcome. P.S. investing in some great food log / menu / group challenges apps and keeping daily records was a must.

  • On a positive note, this man is advocating fasting. That practice saves you money !
I heard him say that fasting helps to rebuild the mucus lining of the gut. Correct me if that’s not what was said.

  • love this lady, she is so one point, she gets right to it, i love that, plus shes is very easy on the eyes, her way of explaining is so good!! great work doc!!

  • Disgusting that Big Think would promote this disreputable huckster. I unsubscribed from this channel long ago for having propagandists spread disinformation.

This came up recommended and I wanted to see how low they are stooping nowadays. Just vile.

Even shillmaster Joe Rogan, who has ripped countless people off selling laughable horseshit like Alpha Brain, disavowed this shyster.

A new Big Think. Letting a snake oil salesman run an ad that hurts people on your channel.

    Repulsive.

  • Wtf is this? I don’t follow for ads, I want science! Perspective! Inspiration! This was the worst eps I’ve seen from this channel.

  • Asprey is IT not an MD. So what? I have nothing against MD’s or PhD’s. I don’t take vitamin caps. I don’t use prescriptions. I do drink coffee w Bulletproof ingredients but not the branded coffee. I use BP prebiotic in my coffee. They work. They’re expensive. Collagen powders are all over the place now. I buy BP Collagen & won’t buy cheaper brands. It gets digested but still works. Non-inflammatory. I got rid of asthma sprays. Did I do it in a month? No. I wasn’t even looking to do it. 90% relieved not cured. Likely not psychosomatic.

  • If you have a decent BS filter and consider YT a degraded liar4hire swamp you can also find guys like Dave Asprey & Tim Ferriss. No look-at-me tattoos, no posthuman metal in their nose bc it’s not needed.

  • Even if he has something to sell I totally vouch for eating plenty of veggies, eat more fat and avoiding sugar. Those coupled with apple cider vinegar, lemon and water drink and I feel amazing with control over my body on when to eat and not constantly at the mercy of cravings.

  • if you use bullet-proof coffee, it means you’re following a ketogenic diet, in which case, most of the prebiotics source foods are off-limit. Like Onions, Leeks, bananas, apples, onions, barley, oats, wheat bran etc.

  • Holy shit. This guy sounds so dodgy. His energy is so ‘sales’ in a creepy way. Look at his eye movement. How dodgy. Reading his script down to his left.

  • Islam commanded us to fast 1400 years ago.. we’re incumbent to fast for 1 month from sunrise to sunset…. Am not a very strict Muslim but this is something amazing

  • It’s early days and I think we are sitting on a fortune in data in our DNA,microbiome, etc and I’m seeing where this is going I want to be in fiscal loop, show me the money

  • Dodgy. He is twisting this to suit a Keto diet. “Bulletproof”

    Don’t listen to this guy.

But biome is very important. Lots of fruits, veg, fibre, antioxidents, polyphenols and avoid meat, dairy, dioxins, IGF-1, and processed FOOD.

  • Im sorry. They are not high in magnesium they are higher in magnesium.
One cup of spinach gives you 6% rda. Sure hope your in the mood eat to around a pound daly to get rda and remember she suggests getting more.

  • All of these fat people thinking this guy is selling something, but the reality is he just mentions the freaking thing you need to do to live longer.

    FASTING.

That’s it. No more BS. Go into youtube, type Fasting, snake diet, intermittent fasting. And see what people are talking about, forget about the bs medicine.

  • I’ve been suffering from anxiety disorder and sleep issues like 10 years.. I started eating only meat and veggies and taking supplements whatever is good for my gut/microbiome. I’m so tired of this sh*t hopefully I’ll be well again sometime soon.

  • Wooow don’t u need to re-build the intestines with soup when you don’t eat for a while? How is not eating building your intestines? Even with those Thai kids kids that were stuck in a cave 18 or so months ago they had to drink soup for days before eating solid foods??

  • Optimize brain bacteria —> DEATH

Bacteria DON’t live in the human brain.

Bacteria normally live only (1) on the SKIN + adjacent mucous membrane openings (mouth, nose, throat, anus, vagina) and (2) the entire GUT (mouth to anus). These bacteria are part of the beneficial microbes referred to as the human microbial FLORA.

While there is no human brain flora, there is evidence that our gut flora can influence our brain. This is through chemical messengers that they release. Because these amazing findings have made many headlines in the last few years, it is totally understandable why many think the bacteria are in the brain.

Bacteria that make it into our blood get filtered and destroyed by white blood cells in the spleen. If bacteria make it into the brain and start multiplying, this would be an infection and lead to inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) as our immune system tries to eliminate the invading bacteria. If not quickly stopped (if “optimized”) this would cause serious harm (like a stroke) and even death.

So please, never optimize bacteria in your brain.

    Sorry for blabbing.

  • Dave is a professional snake oil salesman. Any Registered Dietitian and Sports Nutritionist would not support his bullshit health advice. He’s been called out by many food scientists. Even Joe Rogan knows he’s a fraud. A credible person on the current research of the gut microbiome would be Dr. Gabrielle Fundaro.

  • Amazing insightful content in an organic, non-processed food. Feel empowered by your channel. Please give us a piece of your analytical mind on creatine, magnesium and mitochondria. I’m loving it!

  • He’s going to have to eat a LOT more vegetables if the poop coming out his mouth is the same quality as the poop coming out his butt.

  • I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
Whenever a ‘professional’, ‘specialist’, or anyone else with some sort of following says “eat grass-fed beef and wild-caught salmon”..always bust out that skepticism salt. These people have no idea what the hell they’re talking about with diet. These are big wigs with delusions of how the world works, in my mind. You really think everyone in the world can eat “grass-fed beef”? How much grass do you think it takes to feed a growing calf? A full grown cow? Picture it in your mind. Okay, now do you really think that the planet can sustain everyone eating this idealistic utopian beef? Well if so, then we’d all be carnivores with no bio-diversity, and a literal ocean-full of animal shit. Get a clue, Hollywood.

EDIT: Oh my goodness, I just realized who this idiot is. Dave Asprey. All he had to say was bulletproof coffee. Big Think, you really give this fool a platform? Check the facts, the planet is dying because of arrogant folks like Asprey. Google: Cognitive dissonance. Reflect. Disillusion yourself from the mainstream static, and stand up for something.
2ND EDIT: Also, big thinkers out there: Are you aware that there’s ‘good’ and ‘bad’ bacteria? Seems like common sense, no? Just like ‘good’ and ‘bad’ cholesterol. Dead animals vs. plants.. which do you think is going to have safer bacteria to put in your stomach? Into your brain? Your brain: use it or lose it.

  • fasting is lifestyle..? • I love your work!

    Dear Michael,

I’m writing to you for two reasons…first reason: I’m a big fan! I’ve watched your videos, listened to your podcast interviews and read your work online. I especially admire how you are such an expert on nutrition and foods that optimize brain health.

Secondly, I know how busy you are, and I’m hoping that you make a little bit of time for me. I am personal trainer working on becoming a Holistic Lifestyle Coach myself so that I can be an expert in nutrition, stress management, and overcoming pain. I absolutely love helping people improve their lifestyles so that they can live happier and more fulfilled lives. To grow my business and better serve the world I am launching my very first CONQUER PAIN TO GAIN Summit on February 3, 2019. I would love to interview you for this Summit on the topic of Overcoming Physical, Mental, & Emotional Pain To Gain Pleasure In Life & Relationships. I am certain you’d be a great fit for helping others conquer pain to gain.

As you know, part of the purpose of these Summits is to grow our exposure. If you’ll give me 45 minutes for an interview [in your case on using (nutrition & any subject you choose) to overcome physical, mental, emotional pain] I will guarantee that every expert is also sharing the information to their list of over 5,000 or more inviting over 100,000 people to hear the series. Bedros Keuilian (Founder Fitbody Bootcamp franchise), Drew Canole (Founder of ORGANIFI & FitLife TV), and Jator Pierre (Kresser Institute Faculty & CHEK Holistic Lifestyle Coach) and Dave Asprey (Biohacker & Founder of Bulletproof Coffee) have agreed so you will be among other experts such as them as well.

My show/summit is a list-building event for you, too, since you’re offering attendees a chance to opt-in to experts’ lists in exchange for a gift each expert (including you) offers. Plus, I’m putting each expert in front of all your attendees, and introducing them to 29 other experts with similar themes. I’m looking for experts who have lists of at least 5,000 people, and who will agree to send out an email (which I’ll write for them) as well as social media promotions, driving people to your opt-in page.

My promotional window is between January 3 February 3.

What do you think? Would you be willing to help a newcomer like me?

I look forward to hearing from you,

    Yusuf Varzideh

I don’t own an instagram account but I would appreciate it if you could answer my question in one of the episodes:
I’m 22 years old female and I have very mild cartilage damage in my knees from overuse. My doctor said that even after pharmaceutical treatment I can’t return to training at the gym because I would make it worse.
Is there anything I can do to repair it? I can’t imagine not lifting especially since I’m in such a young age.

  • I do the lo fodmap diet because I had severe acid reflux and IBS that had me hospitalized twice last year. I went in depth about this on my YouTube channel last month. I have lost 70 pounds but the thing I am most happy with is I am no longer on medications for my gut issues and I feel better than I have in my entire life. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am a happy subscriber!!

I also include the data on how much elemental magnesium bicarbonate each batch provides. Just search my channel for “Magnesium Bicarbonate Water”.

  • Have you looked at how oxalates affect the mitochondria? Or what happens with magnesium (and also calcium and potassium) in the body when there’s on overabundance of oxalates present? Hoping to separate some truth from fiction on this topic!

  • Shes so starkly technical, gulp. I think a small grim reaper image on the upper right standing next to to an avatar of a snipped DNA strand would help solidify the bleak edge, gulp….

  • I wish i had known shit like this twenty years ago. I have learned so much over the last year from people like Rhonda and at almost 58 and a lifetime of obesity i have finally broken through the sugar/carb fog and am now healthier than i have been in a very very long time. Thank you for what you do Rhonda Patrick.

  • Can seaweed be a good source of magnesium too? We eat seaweed quite often. Wonder if there’s anything bad about eating seaweed… can be too much?

  • Thank you for the enlightening facts regarding magnesium. Adequate nutrition is critical for us to function our best and the way to implement that is through research. Here are some ideas for anyone to add more magnesium in their diet (if interested): Spinach (37% per cup). Good in just about anything. Dark Chocolate (16% per 28g). It’s good in coffee or by itself. I recommend 100% cocoa. Pumpkin Seeds (45% per 1/4 cup). Goes great in oatmeal or yogurt. Soybeans (35% per cup).

  • It happens way too often that I dose off into a thought while watching Dr Rhonda Patrick and suddenly ask myself “wait what did she just say last 30 seconds”
    Can anyone relate?

  • I was under the impression we actually increased mitochondrial density ( meaning more ) through Aerobic exercise, but increased the functionality through high intensity. ‍♂️. I’ll have to check this out.

  • And later them will say, that magnesium is bad for you. Or too much mitochondrias are bad for you. It is always working so. The blind faith is never was so major foundation of humans behavior before. I personally may only compromise such situation with idea to listen to my body reaction on stuff and lovering down my ambitions I don’t need super productivity.

  • All these comments discrediting Dave just because he is selling a product are kinda ridiculous. This guy has created a quality product that improves your guy flora significantly. Clearly if you watch this video your looking for ways to do so or your curious to learn about it. Dave Asprey just provided both with this video. I never knew there is a bacteria flora in the BRAIN! Groundbreaking That just made bacteria health way more significant to me. He is extremely well versed and has researched health topics diligently always having top notch scientific studies and scientist on his podcasts giving him the information he says. HES DOING THE DIRTY WORK OF RESEARCH FOR YOU AND SELLING YOU THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE QUALITY PRODUCT HE CAN POSSIBLY MAKE BECAUSE HE TAKES THEM HIMSELF! It is extremely silly to assume that just because someone is selling something means their selling snake oil and they’re a liar and fraud. RIDICULOUS. Don’t judge from a stance of ignorance, find out who this guy is and the work he’s done and the REASON why he started this work. He literally used to be 300lbs if I remember right. He had a multitude of bodily health issues and cognitive health issues. He sought out the research to correct them. He has miraculously corrected all of them and is now in EXTREMELY good health. His body doesn’t hold him back, it now benefits him. Don’t be silly. Look into Dave Asprey. Bulletproof products and the information he has provided has seriously helped my ADD and overall health. I feel and look healthy thanks to his diet and products. I would buy them all if I could afford them. He drops absolute nuggets of gold concerning health.

  • I had sleep problems for years…waking every night at 2am…and awake. Starting taking 500 to 1000 mgs of Magnesium and 1 tablespoon of MCT oil just before bed. I am sleeping…it is a miracle

  • Do gut bacteria make a second home in our brains?

    By Kelly ServickNov. 9, 2018, 2:45 PM
    Biology,Brain & Behavior
    doi:10.1126/science.aaw0147

    Well written and researched.

  • Hi Dr. P,

How long does it take for the new mitochondria to form after a workout assuming adequate levels of magnesium exist? How long of a rest with adequate magnesium does the average body need to fully repair its existing mitochondria? When is the best time to consume magnesium? Is is okay for a person doing OMAD to load up in the 1 hour window or is there a consequence to over consumption of magnesium?

Answers to these questions would be quite helpful.

  • I love your videos! I added 450mg of elemental magnesium in the form of di-magnesium malate and really felt the difference. Stopped exercising a few years ago b/c of burnout but go for walks with my dog and in the process of getting myself a Bellicon for some serious rebounding:-) Please keep posting!

  • I have watched a few of her vids. Love her smarts and nice to see her with her hair done and a little make-up. I have to admit, find her kinda sexy. You go girl!

  • Great video. Given that your gut microbiome impacts everything (as we explore in-depth in our gut health guide), regardless of whether your illness has any gut-related symptoms. from your immune system to your skin to your brain function to your digestion, and even your mood and mental health, it’s so important to eat foods that are beneficial for it.
