  • This woman makes some good points about fibre but then is totally wrong about getting it from bread, breakfast cereals, “whole grains”, oatmeal, and flour, etc. That stuff will kill you with high carbohydrates/insulin and inflammatory grains.   • Hello, I was quite impressed with this until it got to the end and I saw, ‘ This program was made possible through a partnership between the Alliance for Aging Research and Mars centre for Cocoa health science.’ Is this Mars, the god of war, or Mars the sugar filled chocolate bar? Does the sugar filled chocolate bar contribute to healthy aging?

  • Here in Southern Africa our labeling is different and I can’t find anyone to explain the (dis)logic I sometimes encounter. I can understand the Energy (calories) and the protein and the fats, split into saturated and unsaturated, but what I find confusing is the sugars.

    Our labels contain the wording:

    “Glycaemic Carbohydrates” (say per 100g)………..(e.g.) 15.6g
    of which, Total Sugar……………………………………………………..8.5g

    Most places I read say the “Total sugar” is the one to watch and should not be high; In other words the Total sugar = the added sugar.
    Now this is where I run into a problem,

    1) A bag of dried split peas, according to the above, everything rings true.
    Glycaemic Carbohydrates…….17.0g
    of which total sugar………………..0.0g (no added sugar)
    BUT,
    2) A bag of dried cranberries (high in natural sugar)
    Glycaemic Carbohydrates…….83.4g
    of which total sugar………………65.5g This doesn’t sound right to me.

    Only 17.9g natural sugar? 3.66 x more added sugar?
    Is it possible that they can put more sugar into a dried berry than there is natural sugar? Why would this be necessary?

    On the other hand if, as I understand it (Total sugar = Natural sugar), then (2) rings true and (1) would seem ridiculous.

    What advice do you have for me?

  • Correction: Sodium is not the same as salt Potassium salt is healthier than Sodium salt: Potassium is essential for your nervous system, you get muscle cramps if you don’t have enough (especially if you exercise). Please update the video.
