  • I had a conversation with my doctor yesterday for my yearly physical and she mentioned fasting, hence why I am here to learn and get motivated. It will take some planning and it makes sense.

  • I watched one of the saddest documentaries about diabetes in Samoa. Such a lovely culture and people being decimated by a way of eating brought across from America. One man said they are slowly losing their traditional way of fishing and growing their own produce for the cheap, unhealthy foods in the supermarket. This is happening across most of the Pacific Islands now…heartbreaking.

  • I’m a fan of Michael but he has grossly misrepresented the findings of the PREDIMED study. There were 3 groups (men & women)(total of 7447) all were considered to be at high risk for a CV event. One group the “low fat” group didn’t follow instructions (to reduce their fat consumption) and continued to eat their regular diet. They essentially became the control group because they made no changes to their behavior. They had the highest CV event rate (109 events) over the 5 years of the study.

    The second group increased their olive oil intake and this group showed slight improvement in their CV event rate (96 events).

    The third group increased their nut intake and they showed better improvement in their CV event rate mostly from a reduction in strokes (83 events).

    So, bottom line, this study showed the benefits of adding nuts to one’s diet, but did nothing to show the pros/cons of a low fat diet. Numerous well-run studies have indeed shown that a low-fat diet can mostly eliminate CV disease. Do your research start with although there are several other good sources of information (Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Campbell, Dr. Ornish).

  • “animal protein increases muscle mass”.. now I’m starting to get skeptical of this guy. Has he not seen the very built vegans? It’s a question of doing it correctly. Vegan body builders care more about their bodies than those who eat meat full of the chemicals he was previously talking about.     I started fasting after watching the documentary on BBC, but I fast for real, one day per week, not that BS of 5:2. Fasting is not eating at all, not eating less. Anyway, I lost 20kgs and I wasn’t expecting anything like that. I was just trying to do it for the health benefits.
    I still do it during the cold months, one day per week of fasting (lunch on Friday and then I only eat again Saturday afternoon or for dinner). If am not able to do it at least I fast for half a day (have lunch and then only have breakfast the next day). That one is quite easy and anyone can do it.

  • My downfall is sugar. I have one coffee a day, laced with 3 sugars. If I have green tea, I have 2 teaspoons honey. I don’t have any other sugar added to my food. I’m a pescartarian/vegetarian. They say sugar is more addictive than heroin.

  • Becca, I’m a Nutrition and Dietetics major so I hear about the set point theory a lot, how do you feel about that/ what’s your opinion on the truth behind it? Because I eat as healthy as you can expect a college student to all week and I workout regularly. I have an indulge weekend every three weeks where I kinda just eat whatever I want (and whenever there is a holiday I might move it out or do it in the middle of the week so I can eat Christmas candy etc) Typically I am still within my energy intake limit but there have been times I have gone way overboard and my weight stays the same although I should have gained at least a pound.   • I grew up with Milo, Ovaltine and Nido as a child it’s ok to have sugar especially in school age because we are competitive we have PE so we need energy to burn. It’s the food that we eat here in US processed and full of steroids in meat. I was thin when I was in Asia moving to US I gained so much weight. I noticed as well that a lot of young women have eating disorders because of misinformation either teeanagers in US are obese or have anorexia/bulimia. I don’t believe in fad diets.

  • This video is a breath of fresh air, so simple and well balanced. I work in the kitchen of a skilled/LTC care facility and am working Thanksgiving. I wasn’t sure how I would swing eating Thanksgiving meal and then going home to family who was eating. But this video gave me an idea.   • Here we have our local grain mill. We can have really nice sour dough breads and even pizza from Organic Whole Grain flour.
    The pizza man uses it, the café makes lovely sour dough crosaints when you go for yoga on the beach on Sundays they bake so its ready and fresh. And the large real home made like breads last for days, without getting mold no we cant preserve fresh bread here.
    One really have to chew on for a while, not just a bite then its gone.. you feel full all day �� ����‍♂️ and the pizza is so good, but you cant eat it all we keep the rest for a snack next day ��
    Did I mention local? Its within a few miles (max 20).. and in the organic farming the use of Nitrogen fertilizers are regulated by law still some have skills to make real bread �� ��slow food

  • I would like to know where all these olive trees grow? Considering all the olive oil all over the world it has to be mixed with all sorts of other junk because their simply cannot be enough olive trees on the planet to produce the olive oil in every supermarket you see in every county. It cannot be done.

    I’ve given up caffeine for many reasons:

    Caffeine increases cortisol, cortisol decreases testosterone. Also lack of deep sleep affects testosterone.

    Another reason I’ve stop drinking caffeine is because there is a world wide shortage of coffee beans.

    Yesterday they said its even worse now because of COVID.

    I read because of the shortages they mix other ingredients with instant coffee like hickory, soy, corn maize, twigs, sticks, and even dirt.

    Another reason is the cost of coffee. Its $6 over here. ����

    Other reasons are many like it makes your heart pump more violently.

    Lack of deep rem sleep causes many problems. Thats why I gave up black coffee.

    Anxiety, depression…

    Caffeine is also anticatylst which interferes with the absorption of micro-nutrients which are essential for good health.

    Caffeine also affects skin collagen.

    I notice a girls skin after giving up caffeine. Much better.

    Will i ever drink coffee again. Maybe but pretty I’ve given it up.

    I sleep so much better now.

    I feel properly rested.

    I feel that deep restful sleep now.
