How Healthy Are Veggie Chips?

Video taken from the channel: Rachael Ray Show

A serving of veggie chips isn’t a healthy substitute for fresh, frozen, or even canned veggies. One serving of veggies contains 25 calories and many vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals (plant. If you’re craving something crunchy, and a little salty, veggie chips made from real veggies are a great and healthy choice for you in that moment. Same for when you want just a little something extra on the side to accompany a nutritious sandwich. You can also try making your own to cut back on sodium and other extra add-ins.

Are veggie chips actually healthy? If you define healthy as fried chips, then no because of the added fat. However some veggie chips are baked, but then so are some potato chips so maybe if they fit in your healthy eating plan. Yes, veggie chips are made from real vegetables and potato chips are made from real potatoes, but that doesn’t make them healthy. You’ll get small amounts of key nutrients when you eat veggie chips, but you also need to consider the fat and sodium content of the snack before digging in.

Veggie Chips: The Basics. The bottom line: Veggie chips are really no “healthier” than potato chips, so it’s not worth picking one over the other. If you want to swap out processed snacks without giving up the salt and crunch, opt for fresh veggies with hummus, homemade vegetable chips, or a handful of lightly salted nuts.

Because the fact is, veggie chips are no more or less healthy than regular potato chips. Quick question: Why do people even eat veggie chips? What are the ingredients in vegetable straw snacks? Potato Starch.

Potato Flour. Corn Starch. Tomato Paste. Spinach Powder.

Salt. Potassium Chloride. Sugar.

Beetroot Powder (for color) Tumeric. 7 ‘healthy’ snacks that aren’t actually healthy at all When done correctly, snacking can keep hunger at bay, fuel your energy levels and provide a great source of health-boosting nutrients. Over half of the veggie chips we picked through in stores had more fiber than potato chips (which only have 1 gram). Some pack 6 grams!

And we found bean-based chips have around 4 grams of protein, while sweet potato varieties can be a rich source of vitamin A. Using the word “veggie” suddenly elevates this snack in your mind as a healthier option. Evidence shows that when someone believes a food is healthy, they eat more of it.

We call this a “health halo” or “health washing” or as I like to say “nutrition washing!”.

List of related literature:

Not only are they empty of nutrients and full of grains (and in the case of potato chips, a nightshade plant), they are almost always made with vegetable or corn oil.

  • You’re not even an expert no credentials or have any testing equipment why is YouTube filled with wannabes spreading their own opinions as facts

  • proceeds to make a video discouraging people from eating “unhealthy veggie chips” uses CONSUMER REPORTS to suggest a product that’s still worse and 50% air
This fucking cracks me up, if your going to suggest people buy something else why would you use CONSUMER REPORTS on a brand that is basically everywhere? I’m sure its just a demographic thing but in all honesty you can’t sit there and say lays is more favorable to consumers when lays is just as bad if not worse health wise

  • lol, I like the veggie straws. their cinnamon apple straws taste much better though. I’ll have to try those chips. thanks for the video!

  • The straws are good with some type of dip or humus. They also come in a ranch flavor. Those taste much better than just the regular sea salt. The chips come in sour cream too. I like those the best.

  • What’s the best oils to consume in moderation that’s are not too expensive. I’m trying to move away from canola oil bc it make me feel sluggish. Thank you

  • canola oil.officially classed as real healthy in Germany. Omega 3 + Omega 6 no transfats. a quick check would have done wonders for this crappy video.

  • They r ok but best is if you dont eat any regularly maybe once a month. Infact to newbies best is if they eliminate from diet completely until weight goal is achieved.

  • I caught the same thing with the sweets and beets! So disappointing because it could be an amazing product if they’d just used coconut or avocado oil! What about tortilla chips made with just non-gmo corn and sea salt??

  • Picked up some of the Boulder chips cooked in Olive oil my last road trip, they are so good. There is no reason to go back to the Doritos lol

  • when they started cutting the apple I was like “ARE THEY SERIOUSLY GONNA PUT SALT ON THAT” but then I felt stupid and relived when they added cinnamon.

  • could other kinds of squash be used in place of zucchini? I’m not a fan of the bitter aftertaste of zucchini, but maybe some other thin-rinded squash?
