A serving of veggie chips isn’t a healthy substitute for fresh, frozen, or even canned veggies. One serving of veggies contains 25 calories and many vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals (plant. If you’re craving something crunchy, and a little salty, veggie chips made from real veggies are a great and healthy choice for you in that moment. Same for when you want just a little something extra on the side to accompany a nutritious sandwich. You can also try making your own to cut back on sodium and other extra add-ins.
Are veggie chips actually healthy? If you define healthy as fried chips, then no because of the added fat. However some veggie chips are baked, but then so are some potato chips so maybe if they fit in your healthy eating plan. Yes, veggie chips are made from real vegetables and potato chips are made from real potatoes, but that doesn’t make them healthy. You’ll get small amounts of key nutrients when you eat veggie chips, but you also need to consider the fat and sodium content of the snack before digging in.
Veggie Chips: The Basics. The bottom line: Veggie chips are really no “healthier” than potato chips, so it’s not worth picking one over the other. If you want to swap out processed snacks without giving up the salt and crunch, opt for fresh veggies with hummus, homemade vegetable chips, or a handful of lightly salted nuts.
