Drop lower lije three-quarters of a gram of protein per pound of body weight and you’ll still be fine. Taking protein powder is not just going to build muscle. I know that might seem obvious to some of you but trust me I work with a lot of people so I have to clarify it’s not just going to build muscle just by taking it. The protein shakes are just there to help you meet your protein requirements for the day. Keep in mind the protein that you get from real food is a lot more beneficial for building muscle so the majority of your protein should be still coming from real food. I definitely don’t recommend that you take more than two protein shakes a day. As far as the protein shakes you can choose from so many different ones. And I don’t want to confuse you so I’m just going to keep this simple. If you’re looking for a protein powder to take after your workout you want to go with a whey protein isolate. If you want a protein as a meal replacement you want to go for the casein because it’s a lot slower digesting sometimes taking up to 4 to 6 hours to digest. So the protein will release slower more like real food. As far as hardgainers you don’t need them please don’t waste your money on them. You can start with your protein powder in a blender and then add a cup of oatmeal, three to four whole soft boiled eggs, a tablespoon of regular sugar for flavor, a tablespoon of coconut oil, and then add high calorie almond milk, cashew milk or even whole milk if you’re not lactose intolerant. This great advice, except for the mass gainers, some of us can’t hit our calories for the day,( work 10+ hr shifts )and mass gainers help a ton, its protein/carb sources, things we already ingest
Hard gainers, add watermelon and protein blends (egg albumen, whey isolate, whey hydro-isolate, casein, etc.). All of those proteins digest at different rates. Some are super fast and some are slow. Hard gainers have a problem with burning off calories faster than other people. If your carbs and fats are burned off, next is your protein. Slow digesting proteins feed your muscles over longer periods allowing availability to your muscle longer. Just make sure that you have enough good cholesterol and fats for proteins to hitch a ride on (and carbs to burn). If there is no cholesterol there test can’t be transferred to the muscle that is repairing itself. Snacks help a lot! Peanut butter, avacado slices, a handful of berries, an apple or apple juice, etc. If there’s nothing else available eat some crackers. Just get something into your body at least every 2 hours or so. Apple juice and gummy bears are especially good within the first few minutes after working out. Eat/drink some a half hour before your post workout shake. They’ll give you an insulin spike that’ll push protein into your recovering cells. Everything else he said that hardgainers should eat is exactly right! Listen to him. Just add watermelon. You won’t believe until you try it!

My concern with taking creatine is that it promotes a bloated muscle appearance, I am now 42 years old, in good shape, I work out 4 times a week but I would like to promote more lean muscle mass. Over 1000g of caffeine each day can be toxic to the body. You’re right to cut out that pre-workput especially if you’re a big coffee drinker. I have a sensitivity to caffeine and can’t touch it at all or I get heart palpitation and jitters.

If your Glutamine, BCAA, and Creatine are all in powder form, can you combine into one shake? Can I take the creatine and Glut together pre and post workout? and then drink the BCAA’s during the workout? What about mixing with a protein shake?

Zma is good for emptying your wallet, because magnesium should be taken in several small dosages during the day for optimal digestion and zink you get from multivitamins and food. If you have bad skin, like I, just buy zink pills. Cla helps some but I haven’t seen any results even in 10g/day dosages except diarrhea.

This great advice, except for the mass gainers, some of us can’t hit our calories for the day,( work 10+ hr shifts )and mass gainers help a ton, its protein/carb sources, things we already ingest
Hard gainers, add watermelon and protein blends (egg albumen, whey isolate, whey hydro-isolate, casein, etc.). All of those proteins digest at different rates. Some are super fast and some are slow. Hard gainers have a problem with burning off calories faster than other people. If your carbs and fats are burned off, next is your protein. Slow digesting proteins feed your muscles over longer periods allowing availability to your muscle longer. Just make sure that you have enough good cholesterol and fats for proteins to hitch a ride on (and carbs to burn). If there is no cholesterol there test can’t be transferred to the muscle that is repairing itself. Snacks help a lot! Peanut butter, avacado slices, a handful of berries, an apple or apple juice, etc. If there’s nothing else available eat some crackers. Just get something into your body at least every 2 hours or so. Apple juice and gummy bears are especially good within the first few minutes after working out. Eat/drink some a half hour before your post workout shake. They’ll give you an insulin spike that’ll push protein into your recovering cells.

Glutamate/glutamine, and the bcaas are essential amino acids, it’s true, but you get them from food, there is no reason to buy them in pills.
And yes, I got that from picture fit. It’s just true. The only worthy supplements are creatine and whey.

My concern with taking creatine is that it promotes a bloated muscle appearance, I am now 42 years old, in good shape, I work out 4 times a week but I would like to promote more lean muscle mass. I don’t want enhanced muscle mass that lacks lean athletic definition. I recall when I did creatine in my 30s I gained mass but not lean muscle defined mass. Taken 30-45 minutes before exercise you won’t be able to induce a lactic acid burn, whether you run or body build. One of my secret weapons used in competition level body building and in running, where I could go and go and go and never get a lactic acid burn. On the other hand, lactic acid burn can be useful, it lets you know you are getting targeted muscles to respond and can signal a short rest period for that muscle helping prevent overworking or excessive damage. Please don’t see lactic acid as evil, it has good purpose.
Know that it takes quite a bit of exercise over repeated times before your mind can focus on and connect with an individual response in a particular muscle (mind-muscle connection), whereby you can isolate it and make it respond individually. Over 1000g of caffeine each day can be toxic to the body. You’re right to cut out that pre-workput especially if you’re a big coffee drinker. I have a sensitivity to caffeine and can’t touch it at all or I get heart palpitation and jitters.

If your Glutamine, BCAA, and Creatine are all in powder form, can you combine into one shake? Can I take the creatine and Glut together pre and post workout? and then drink the BCAA’s during the workout? What about mixing with a protein shake?
With creatine they’re is no need to cycle loading. I would take 10g of creatine for a few days to let it kick in, then reduce to 8g, and 5g on maintenance days. I also prefer creatine monohydrate as it is the most researched creatine molecule. you dont need this rubbish. eat clean drink lots of water train haird, get your nutrients from real food. there no shortcut. fish oils are okay but take them day on and day off.
I personally don’t use any supplements. The reason why it’s my experience, when I was taking for example protein shakes and when I don’t, I don’t see any difference on my physique or training. That is a fact.
The first thing I do when I finish my work out it’s to have a normal meal with real food.
The companies producing supplements always tends to exaggerate the affects of their products.
There is no shortcut to get big.
I train for 35 years, if someone joins a gym thinking he’s going to be big in a couple months, then he’s better try playing ping-pong!
Regarding creatine, a study has been done years ago within the French army. For info In the beginning of creatine, creatine was in the forbidden substances list of the Olympic committee. The study was based on 3 groups. one group training with creatine, another training without, and a group training with a placebo. By the end the test, results between the three groups were nearly insignificant.

Glutamine does not help or bcaa’s, because science. Protein powder and food, does. Both have lots of both.
Zma is good for emptying your wallet, because magnesium should be taken in several small dosages during the day for optimal digestion and zink you get from multivitamins and food. If you have bad skin, like I, just buy zink pills.
Cla helps some but I haven’t seen any results even in 10g/day dosages except diarrhea.
