  • I’m afraid Zoe Harcombe took the vegetarian research to the woodshed. Gram for gram, meat is far more nutritious in literally everything except Vitamin C. I’m all for balance and eating what is right for your body, but can the vegetarians please stop this propaganda that an all-veggie diet is the healthiest diet? The data is not there to support it.

    That being said, I love Kim Chi, Sauerkraut, Eggplant Pickles, Anato, Natural Yoghurt, and Sour Cream. They are excellent foods to break a fast with and prepare the gut for a more substantial meal. They’re very nutritious and generative. In my daily 20g net carb allowance, it’s those along with a small serving of broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, spinach, collards, or mushrooms. I have never felt better in my life. My body fat is coming off, my muscle definition if improving, my blood work from sugars to lipids to vitamins is now the picture of metabolic healthiness.

    Now, in terms of GMO, outright banning them is stupid. There’s a right and wrong way to modify an organism. Golden rice is a good GMO. It provides nutrition to an otherwise very nutrient-poor grain central to a lot of Asian diets among the less finally well-off. What needs to be banned are GMOs which produce unnatural pesticides and lectins that most humans can’t handle.

    If I can modify a flax genome to produce a USEFUL Omega-3 oil in the seeds such as DHA or EPA (ALA is nearly useless to the body unless you eat TONS of turmeric), that’s an ethical, good GMO. Banning such a product for being artificially modified alone is ridiculous. We need more scalpels and fewer bone saws.

However, I have had a lot more success with a health turnaround by using the Wim Hof method (for inflammation) and eating sparingly through the day with a big blow out at night. When I was trying to turn things around through diet I was eating constantly albeit healthy/organic and I think that this is a huge part of the inflammatory problem. Zen comes across as a bit of a laser-eyed zealot but Dr Fagan/Saxe seem to talk a lot of sense.

  • Cayenne pepper is great pesticide. Using copper tape around the perimeter of the garden, will stop slugs and crawling insects. 1:3 ratio of vinegar:water is a great herbicide. There are hundreds of safe solutions to pest and weeds. Our great grand parents used all of them.

  • Thanks for the video; I am very happy what I saw. I follow the Starch Solution strictly so I’m pretty biased since I saw very stark improvement quickly. I was pleased to see these doctors give very good advice. The Starch Solution is like the Dean Ornish diet, mentioned in this presentation, in a way that it is what many deem ‘radical’ but it has extremely good results.

    Of course, many of the unhealthy foods are designed for maximum addictiveness and that is a big reason people can’t stop. I believe that moderation of such addictive foods works for a select few, lucky people but most cannot. I chose to quit them altogether. This also allows my taste to become acclimated to a new level of taste.

    I have been lucky to have a life situation living alone, with plenty of time and lower amount of stress, plus plenty of sleep, which lends itself to avoiding very unhealthy foods.

    For people that are willing to do what it takes all the way to stop heart disease, the whole food-plant based diets work, I feel: Caldwell Esselstyn, Dean Ornish, Nathan Pritikin, John Mcdougall. Good luck to you all staying healthy.

  • I feel like the way this is presented makes it lack credibility.

    For example, when she states that the protein response in rodents is similar to that of humans, there’s no cited study nor did she mention the difference in metabolism between the two species. The “my husband” example has the sample size of one and “became plant based” is too board of a term without elaborating on exactly what he cut out, what he eats and the proportions.

    The problem of the studies she mentioned is the way that a correlation of exactly one side is used which can lead to confirmation bias since the suggested change in diet has so many variables.

  • For those who believe we are omnivores, I have spent years working at Seventh-Day Adventist restaurants, five to be exact, and these people that I met, grew up on that diet, I have met many that have never had meat in their whole life, being raised in an SDA family. Now, to prove you are wrong, you only have to ask yourself, what city in all the United States, is the only area of the U.S. of A. that is a certified “blue zone.” (an specific area where most people live over 100, and are in vibrant health ) The fact is, it is Loma Linda CA, a city of mostly Seventh Day Adventists. Their prophet, Ellen G. White, tells them that “not a morsel of meat is to be eaten” in Counsels of Diet and Food. In their restaurants they have no meat, no eggs, no fish, no dairy in the menu. All government studies (4) show they have the longest life span, the least heart disease and the least cancer. All of this proves we are not meant to be omnivores. And yet the greatest proof of all, is that the diet our Designer gave for mankind, in Genesis to Adam and Eve, was a plant based diet. I think God knows more than you my friend, and more than all the doctors and scientists in all the world. The problem is, is that people that teach that we are omnivores, choose to only look for evidence that supports your bad habits, and yes, eating meat is certainly a bad habit. It is the major cause of all chronic degenerative diseases, I should know, I have assisted quite a few doctors in my life time in the health field.

There is keto YouTube videos out there that will show you stuff with no sugar in it or very little. Doesn’t mean you have to do the keto diet. I’ve been off sugar for 2 weeks. Just because of those videos that showed me other food to buy without sugar in it or very little.

I never grew up much meat and i finally decided to eating no meat but go back to nature and drink lots of water and eat fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains. Doctors are surprised regularly when they realize that I have no medical issues. I am on no meds and have never had a surgery. God is good. Thanks be to God.

  • this was all fascinating, thanks for posting it, I had to deal with this myself I grew up eating a lot of tomatoes, being Italian, my grandfather made me tomato and mayo sandwiches which I loved, but as an adult, I can’t eat them any more without feeling sick and itchy it finally dawned onme that the tomatoes I ate were grown organically in either my grandfather or great uncles’ gardens, organically, now tomatoes are largely imported and gassed to finish ripening I’m sure I’m allergic to that gas, luckily, all the best Italian food doesn’t contain tomatoes at all so I can still eat it

    Regarding the right amounts of Essential Aminoacids, the Bioavailability is dictated by the DIAS (Digestible indispensable amino acid score) which is far lower on plant foods. You would have to eat a lot more calories to be able to get the right amounts of these amino acids to be healthy.

    Lastly, plants contains plant toxins, also called antinutrients. Oxalates, phitates, Lectins (gluten included), glycosinulates, tannins, protease inhibitors, solanins, saponins & flavonoids. All of these have a negative effect on the body. Many of the degenerative cronic conditions humans have are related to these antinutrient.

  • Dr Campbell’s study was with casein which is a protein unique to dairy. I have a hunch we need to distinguish between dairy protein and meat protein. I’m not sure you can conflate casein with all animal protein.
