For starters, studies show that most people are really bad at estimating the actual number of calories they eat.12 They underestimate portion sizes, assume foods contain fewer calories than they do, measure intake inaccurately, and, in some cases, simply lie to themselves about how much they’re actually eating.

  • Once you’re fat-adapted hunger is far more manageable. So I’ve been vegan for 20 years, Keto 2 years. OMAD most of my life and regularly skip eating for a day or two, sometimes 5 days.
I’m reasonably healthy intelligent and physically fit. No colds flues etc.

  • Amazing content. I myself tried several cycles of 3-day fasting, back in 2019, and the results were just fantastic. My doctors were surprised with the results

  • Day by Day is true, GREAT advice. lose 20 pounds. in three weeks as I did single Watch the video on this website => leanbellybreakthrough1. club <= (Google it) will help you lose weight and reduce waist without taking pills

  • I am in totally agreement regarding Fasting and I have featured Dr Longo in several papers and Power Point presentations as a current Nutrition Sciences major. (BSc. later this year). I practice various Fasting and LCHF meals. I have just implemented IF but enjoy extended day fasts. Around Christmas I started a fast and it went for 15 days. I loved it. It was a water fast but I did drink black coffee, teas, apple cider vinegar with water and some bullion on low electrolyte days. I feel good when I do it, and 15 days is the longest that I have done.

  • The studies on NMN with mice show between 400mg and 500mg/kg/day. That is 35,000 mg per day for a 70 kg (154

lb) person. He takes only 1000 mg per day. Can anyone explain why?

  • Its not so much what you eat its how often you eat.we are eating too much food and eating to often.Eat when its true hunger that is good health.

  • That last video you made was pretty good. The only big issue I remember was you talked about how fitness trackers are accurate and they have actually been up to 90% wrong. The real tracker is a weight scale. But keep pounding Calories in Vs Calories out. You are so right when it comes to that. over all you’re pretty good and wish there was more of you around and less of Chloe Ting around. She’s the worst. If you lose 2 lbs a week that’s 7000 calories you burned. That’s great. Calculators should only be used as a base line to frind your TDEE as those are also known for being wrong but it’s a great start. All and all good video.

  • I think these days I have ruined my metabolism by eating way lower than my daily caloric intake:( is there a way for me to go back to normal?

  • CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?!
ok so I’m not dieting BUT in the morning i literally only eat yogurt and it only has 140 calories and after that I just drink water for the rest of the day. I want to eat more but I also don’t want to gain weight.. I’m also NOT starving myself, i’m just not hungry anymore

  • That’s kinda sad. The point with the salad doesn’t work for me bcz I actually like salad and would eat it even if I’m not hungry. Same goes for many veggies. Even when I’m hungry I usually prefer not to eat sweet stuff, but prefer the healthier stuff. I am still not loosing weight tbh

  • Me trying to loose wait, trying fasting
    Mom: Come and eat!
    Me:I’m not hungry
Mom: Come and it!! ( devil voice) Don’t make me come upstairs!
    Me: Yes maam!
How am I supposed to loose wait with this person around?

  • you may reverse all the related symptoms of diabetes safely and quickly without the risk to suffer side-effects from prescribed medication.

  • Uhhhh, sucking in your stomach is good once in a while, i heard doing it 15 times burns fat or something like that, but don’t do it everyday, all day, i used to get bad cramps because i was sucking in my stomach all day because i was self concious, especially sitting down, that lil bit of chub on your stomach when you sitting down is natural even when you are super skinny, byee

  • I don’t know why I can’t lose weight, I don’t each much in a day because I’m rarely hungry probably about 900 calories. I also exercise everyday can someone tell me why I’m gaining weight?

  • 1) take up resistance training
    2) change the caloric value of your food throughout the week
    3) distinguish a real weight loss plateau from a false one.
    4) increase the amount of proteins and vegetables . Protein boosts your metabolic rate
    5) alternate between energy resources in your exercise routine.
    6) include small amounts of junk food
    7) look at your calorie consumption per day.
    8) make sure you sleep enough.
    9) count your calories and record what you eat
    10) consider the peculiarities of your body.
    ….

  • what about nadh as a subilingual supplement. It’s Nad+ reduced by a hydrogen and its awaiable as stabelized supplement going over to bloodstream over mouth.

    Why nobody talks about this?

  • 1000 calories is too little, I tried doing that and I would feel very weak everyday especially when weight training, I do 1700 to 2000 for my size and I feel amazing everyday

  • What Dr. Longo has not demonstrated whether his diet is significantly better in outcomes than any other diet that restricts calories to 1100 on day 1 and to 725 on days 2-5? So I would not spend $250 dollar for his 5 day diet pack and instead just reduce calories to 1100 kcal and 725kcal and then do blood work after it.

  • This was AMAZING! I much prefer his way of achieving longevity, rather than taking drugs and stuff:) I am perfectly healthy at age 25 so I cant risk putting a drug in my body, just natural food:)

  • Can fasting help to regenerate cells damaged through accidents? For example if a retina has been partially or fully detached, do we know yet whether autophagy can help with this?

  • I can tell you right now. This actually works. This was how I lost weight when I was 14 except I exercised a lot and I didn’t eat a lot. But I did exactly that and it worked

  • I have an objection to some of the graphics on your videos, esp. the one at the beginning. The image in the middle usually shows somebody of a normal healthy weight and then you have to have an extremely thin graphic as the goal. I think this is contributing to unhealthy body image.

  • Its still astonish me just how a number of people do not know about Custokebon Secrets even though lots of people with it. Thanks to my personal friend who told me about it. I’ve lost tons of fat.

  • Anybody else ever try to check the video’s description for more information the commercial that plays prior to the actual video?
    Oh, no?
    So, just me then?

  • If Dr Longo can abandon having to deal with the FDA or other powers that be, who don’t want society healthy. We all win. I just hope he doesn’t sell his soul, when the O.T.O. makes him the offer to come to the dark side.

  • 2:14 Vegetables is classified as a macro nutrient now? I know you don’t want to say fat because FaT bAd and all, but damn that statement makes no sense.

  • My blood sugar in the morning high always over 9. 5 I take ozambig.5 once a week tresiba 20 -24 ml humalog every meal 10 12 ml still always blood sugar high if sugar high I skip the meal I don’t know any more what to do. Please help me Dr A E

  • So nice to find someone who is actually qualified as a doctor studying this out there in the public. This is allowing people to access these papers by talking about it with helpful titles if people don’t speak “biological science language”. I for one would rather more real scientist would post videos like this so less quacks posing as nutritional experts get believed.

  • I know about the sleep stuff and I’m talking into the phone so hopefully not too many typos I work overnight taking care of psychiatric patients and when I come home there is dogs to be walked cats to be let out I mean there’s all kinds of stuff my husband is an over-the-road truck driver and one of my son’s works in the oil fields overnight and another one works security as a truck yard overnight not everybody goes to sleep overnight some people work overnight, keep that in mind when you’re doing videos on weight loss and stress and stuff like that and I like my job my sons like their jobs and my husband likes his job so

  • The quickest and to me the easiest way is to only eat one big meal a day, that meal can be whatever you wish but don’t eat it before 6pm or 2 hours before bed. Combine this with moderate exercise like walking or something you enjoy like swimming or basketball. If you really feel the hunger some on drink coffee with a little sugar in it as it gives you energy and suppresses appetite. It sounds harder and crazier than it is but it’s far easier than counting calories while being on a strict boring diet and forcing yourself to workout 2 hours a day. The great upside is you can still have pizza and burgers while your losing weight. Humans throughout history have never actually practised the act of 3 square meals a day, that is a modern phenomenon and it means your not allowing the ketosis effect to take place and you’ll need to work out much harder to make up for it, it also gives your digestive system a much needed break. I like to throw in a complete fast day once a fortnight too which leaves me feeling refreshed not starving.

  • To the person that stays home from school because they’re too depressed to get out of bed, I love you To the person stand in front of the mirror, unable to fight tears as they criticize every inch, I love you. To the person who can’t keep there dinner down because they only lost 2 pounds, I love you To the person who cry on the cold tiles of they bathroom floor with a razor in there hand, I love you To the person that wear long sleeves in the middle of August to cover all their scars, I love you To the person who pop a hand full of pills just to feel normal, I love you To the person who drowned there feeling in a bottle of booze, I love you To the person who watches the person fell in love with someone else, I love you To the person who parents tell them they not good enough, I love you To the person who lock them self in there room whenever mom/Dad have been drinking, I love you To the person who won’t go home because your mom and dad kept fighting, I love you To the person who won’t go home because they afraid to get yell at, I love you To the person who feel hopeless and planning to take your life, I love you And to you!!! Who is reading this who ever you may be. remember you are put on this earth for a reason. And there is always someone out there who love you (even if it’s only me)

tbh most of this relates to me but if i can’t help myself, why not help others <3 if you are struggling with anything andd you want to talk with someone my instagram dm's are open habibamalikkk

  • Paleo Medicina beat you to it buddy. They doing the carnivore diet as a fasting mimicking diet to cure disease. With their diet the patient is in ketosis most of the time and therefore able to starve off cancer cells. Their ratio is 2 grams of fat to 1 gram of protein (80 grams protein, 160 grams of fat). Its a zero carb diet and the body turns protein into sugar only on demand depending on how much the body needs. They have a 99% success rate.

  • i’ve been working out for 2 months now and my belly has never burned this much seriously!! i think it’s bc the amount of reps that are twice more than the ones i usually do! it’z crazy but i loveeee this! thank you

  • I don’t understand why people are so scared of fasting. God recommends, Isa.58.8, Hippocrates ordered it as medicine. Only people think they know better and can go around.
If you ll get to see its good effects you wouldn’t have enough of it.

  • What about Jiaogulan vs. Metformin? https://joshmitteldorf.scienceblog.com/2015/10/13/can-botanicals-replace-metformin/
Traditional Chinese herb (绞股蓝), Gynostemma pentaphyllum, “southern ginseng”, deemed the king of all Oriental medicines, “immortality herb”. In one study, it improved both fasting glucose levels and (more important) tolerance. ANti-inflammatory (reduces TNF-a and NFkB) supresses insulin, increases AMPK, promotes mitochondria

  • My sister laughed when I told them I was planning to reduce weight with just implementing Custokebon Secrets, but after I showed these people great effects after I used it they’re begging me to share with them about it. Of course I won’t tell them the detail about this diet plan, haha

  • thank you for acknowledging you do torture these little creatures I think you should test on the worst of the worst human beings after all isnt their DNA closer to ours thank you for practicing on yourself

  • Guess, I think people do not lose the weight because of the way society tells them that they have no problem or that they shouldn’t worry too much because food “is life”…like a lax mentality chiselling their fats. Move! Get active! Eat healthy greens and fruits! Today is THE greatest day of your life. Forget what perfectionist attitude means, do it at your own pace & have selfcontrol with food. There’s absolutely nothing to get fearful about, being healthy is number one. Have strength to avoid sweet and fatty food always.

  • Ireland, the UK, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, all smoke less than in the USA and many countries about the same. Belgium and Luxembourg are high but it is inaccurate to make such a sweeping statement.

  • to get in ketosis, dont you need to reduce the carb consumption to like max 5 -10%. Of coz it would depend on individual metabolic profile, and yet, that seem too high for getting into therapeutic ketosis

  • Honestly counting calories is not something that bothers me and i didnt get any disorders from it, but its so annoying when i measure food and track calories with my family looking at me like im a maniac.

  • Hello Dr. Ergin, what do you recommend for women who are struggling with weight loss who have PCOS. I for one have gained 50 lbs from my normal weight, which already had me classified as “overweight”. I take responsibility for 15 of those pounds because I feel helpless and stopped working out and watching every single thing I eat for a while. I am 22 years old and currently weigh 230 lbs. At this point I’m considering weight loss surgery. I’ve done keto, low carb (not keto), low calorie, raw vegan diet, etc., for months and months and haven’t lost more than 5 lbs. The second I stop whatever new diet I try, I gain the weight back. I’m very tired of feeling like I’m fighting against my own body all the time, I’ve quite literally have been dieting since I was 5 years old. What do you suggest I do or try at this point?

  • Hello i have lost 60kg now 80kg and after a year and a half i have maintained this weight with yoga wimhof breathing green vege berries all bran fish chicken dark chocolate nuts eggs and intermittent fasting. No pills injections and dieticians/nutritionists. And a much better mood overall and motivated to exercise. On refined sugar depressed and immobile. Change diet then you can move easier. Cut sugar.

  • I’m going through the Breast Cancer journey right now. Fasting and being in ketosis is a lifesaver. Especially during chemo!! This science is sound!

  • Basic necessary dos and don’ts are nicely brought out and explained. Importance of calories and their source, amount are well covered.

  • 32:00 Essentially fasting was used in the past to help purge cancer cells, and when we stopped doing it/having to do it we lost a natural protective mechanism against cancer. A logical theory, and perhaps absolutely ground breaking!

  • I have heard insulin resistance is caused by intermuscular fat not allowing insulin to assist blood sugar to enter the cells. It’s like putting gum in a lock and you can’t insert a key to get in. Is this inaccurate?

  • Great video-I”ve been doin OMAD for quite a while now.I”ve learned carbs are not necessary for life.I”ve totally adapted to no carbs and 1 meal a day.Down 30 lbs.-60 years old, disabled and doing well.Learned, everytime you eat,it spikes insulin-not good.

  • This is one of the watchable videos in her channel. She’s great and she talks about important information but she doesn’t know how to explain things in the right way and I’m not even a layman. Although dr Valter speaks with an accent, he’s very easy to watch. I’m sorry, but some people shouldn’t be on “TV”. I’m not sure exactly why, probably her voice, it’s very monotone and she always talks as she’s reading from something which makes it so hard to follow. She seems like she always wants to be puke whatever information in her head so fast without connecting all the pieces together!

  • 2:14 Vegetables is classified as a macro nutrient now? I know you don’t want to say fat because FaT bAd and all, but damn that statement makes no sense.

  • One of the best discussions on the relationship to food, longevity and health I’ve heard.
It is forcing me to ask myself, my body really, what is it that I want. A lot of times I want to eat because it’s fun. It’s social. But my body is like, what? Body I just want to move or rest or play or make things or solve a puzzle etc. Sometimes it gets “hungry” but is it really? Is it just my desire for pleasure. Ya, that often it. Sometimes I have to look at pleasure in a new way.

  • I basically used this thoery while on Keto for the last 4 years. My conclusions were based on my own reading/research as the keto benefits unfolded. My research helped to feed my detox and repair of my metabolism, helped my make specific choices and formulate certain regiments of what I call treatments. Physiological effects were my main compass. Long story short, I used Cottonseed Oil, Castor Oil and a 2 week Molasses process. Cottonseed Oil fats, specifically the Beta nature of the fat I feel is very important for keeping DNA reflexes alive while detoxing, perhaps rapidly on a something like the Ketogenic Diet. Castor oil mimics and is a direct replacement of cellular wall material. Molasses helps the cell release its stored waste which aids the cell in its uptake of nutriments. I also have done what I call a Keto Molasses treatment. Basically 1 tbsp of molasses is your days worth of 20g of carbs, taken for 4-5 days, followed by 2-3 zero carb days, then back to full 20g carb meals. The process took 12 days for results. The result was a massive release of energy day 12. Where did the energy come from? The energy was from long long chain hydrogen bonds being broken and released, no doubt many long waiting toxins with them. The physiological effect was the desire to RUN. Run I did and it helped spurn a time period of regular physical walking, jogging in addition to a workout routine. A universal conclusion that I have made based on my results is that: many of the nutriments that are found in these fat sources are supposed to be found within crop soils. Farm soils are not so organic anymore with the over farmed, chemical fertilizer, pesticides conditions. These modern over farming mechanisms also hinder, in my opinion, specific hormone exchanges needed to help a plant have a robust immunity code. Down to the details, pollinating with some kind of bee is not enough, the crop may need a specific bee in its exchange, in its hormonal exchange. The trickle effect is that the consumers, the eaters of crops don’t get the full immunity code needed to feed our own immune systems.

  • So basically, the calories I burn in my exercises shouldn’t be eaten again. Which means if I already ate 1300 cals and then burned 400 I’m not allowed to eat them?

  • You probably say eating heavier in morning helps because it gives you more energy to exercise. Well I don’t exercise all day long so I would rather eat a light breakfast.

  • I don’t get it. You take NR or NMN, you have more NAD+ in the blood, but it shows no effect on energy demanding exercise or other parameters. Seems like a waste of time and money.

  • It takes the stomach roughly 3 to 4 hours to digest a meal. The stomach likes to have a rest to replenish its enzyme levels. So if you get done with your meal at 10 am, your next meal would be at 4 pm. This would be perfect. I have practiced 2 meals a day for the last 13 years. I could not sustain longer than four hours at first, but now I eat on the 6th or 7th hour and fast til breakfast.

  • I’m done I’m so fucking done like really! I’m so done with trying it always leads me at the very beginning point WHY AM I HERE!!!!!

  • Doctor Patrick can I ask you a question regarding this. I read in the actual research study that day one consisted of 11% protein, 46% fat, 43% carbohydrate. In your breakdown you say day 1 is 10% protein, 56% fat, 34% carbohydrate. Are you getting your information from the actual prolon protocol product? • Once you’re fat-adapted hunger is far more manageable. So I’ve been vegan for 20 years, Keto 2 years. OMAD most of my life and regularly skip eating for a day or two, sometimes 5 days.
I’m reasonably healthy intelligent and physically fit. No colds flues etc.

  • So let me get this this person says this

People who skip breakfast are shown to lose more weight than people who eat breakfast

Now he’s saiying not eating breakfast stops from losing weight can this person make up his mind

  • Yes, counting calories does work for weight loss, and yes, it can also lead to eating disorders, I was falling down that hole myself, but before it got any deeper, i managed to save myself from that. I’m 14, going to be 15 next year in February, and just recently opened my eyes about the truth in this.
For me, personally, it’s not as much about counting calories, but about what you eat. If you’re counting calories, you’re like “Oh, I can eat this as long as I don’t pass the limit” it was like that for me, but it causes stress and eventually you fall, so no more extreme diets like those. Instead, making sure what you eat, starting out by trying healthier foods, and you begin to realize “Oh, I love this” and begin turning more towards healthy foods, that’s what happened to me. Now I crave healthier foods more than anything else, I’m making healthier options now without the thought that I’m on a diet and being stressed over it, but more like this is my new lifestyle, and I love it, taking better care of my body.
I hope people read this comment and take notice in it, hope it helps them realize it as well, take good care

  • I’ve just completed a 15 day water fast prior to Christmas. I’ve been fasting IM and ED, and ketogenic diet for 2 years. I will never stop fasting for its therapeutic “reset” and due to the sensitivity that I get when eating certain foods. My body is in a type of “heightened” state. Eating seems to offer information in how I feel and look after eating certain foods, post fasting, that was not apparent prior to participating regularly, in these fasting episodes. I am completing a BSc in Nutrition and I have featured Dr. Longo and FMD, his research and clinical studies on FMD found in NIH. I am an advocate for therapeutic fasting for both its physical and spiritual (emotional detox) attributes. I believe regularly fasting can be key in addressing the type 2 diabetes mellitus epidemic, especially within communities where people do not deal with stress in a healthy way.

  • When they talk about fasting for a week and then eating a Mediterranean diet afterwards. Are they talking about not eating for a week with just water? Or is there food involved in fasting? Thanks anyone who clears this up for me

  • to get in ketosis, dont you need to reduce the carb consumption to like max 5 -10%. Of coz it would depend on individual metabolic profile, and yet, that seem too high for getting into therapeutic ketosis

  • This is a much less awkward interview than the one she had with Aubrey de Grey on the same subject. It helps a lot that David Sinclair is apparently genuinely as concerned with healthspan as lifespan and actually looks after himself, instead of just drinking and doing nothing else like de Grey. People do get results with some of the extracts out there but in general it is poorly absorbed and in larger amounts can effect the liver. That is why to get the big results it’s important to get the liposomal form of it which then yields HUGE assimilation utilization. • I don’t understand why people are so scared of fasting. God recommends, Isa.58.8, Hippocrates ordered it as medicine. Only people think they know better and can go around.
If you ll get to see its good effects you wouldn’t have enough of it.

  • Every fast and weight lose study concludes don’t eat a big breakfast or skip it. The big breakfast theory was popular with baby boomers, but is outdated now.

  • Is he saying that fasting for cancer is only useful as an adjunct to chemo? Is that because it is no use on its own or because his career would be over if he said don’t have chemo. I read that Mark Twain observed that all the palaver in alternative clinics was irrelevant. It was the fasting that did the job.

  • Rhonda excellent super informative, “keep it simple “ interview, very relaxed yet specific. Dovetails with your detail breakdown video of NR/NMN.

  • I absolutely love how he calls a “pescatarian/vegan diet” the “perfect diet” yet the entire premise of his “fast-mimicking diet” is based around being in a state of ketosis. Are you REALLY better off eating 2-3 times a day limiting your protein and ingesting plenty of carbohydrates-kicking you out of ketosis and inhibiting autophagy-kind of half-assing it, or are you better off fasting all day, going deeper into autophagy, eating within a more restricted 4-6 hour window, and then actually getting to enjoy higher protein foods and meats (which are some of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet), which your body then NEEDS for recovery, especially after a workout? Even he admits the magic of fasting happens upon refeeding… One method is a half-ass compromise just because you want to eat more often while the other is exploiting the benefits of BOTH fasting and refeeding. But don’t kid yourself. Being vegan or pescatarian is not the “optimal” diet. It’s a compromise between you wanting to get to eat more frequently than we ever ate ancestrally and wanting to not age yourself by loading on protein with the carbs. You’re keeping mTOR “kinda low” all day rather than keeping it flatlined then spiking it ONLY WHEN YOU ACTUALLY BENEFIT FROM IT at the end of the day and around exercise.

The impact of protein on inhibiting autophagy via mTOR activation is FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT without carbohydrates. Someone eating a moderate carb vegan/pescatarian diet is spiking it multiple times throughout the day, and we know carbohydrates keep it elevated for longer than protein and amino acids alone. Compare that to someone eating eggs, meat, protein, and lots of healthy fats, who spent the whole day fasting then simply spikes mTOR high ONE TIME for a shorter period of time-preferably after exercise when their cells actually need the refeed-who is then delivering the full spectrum of building blocks to their tissues to repair.

This isn’t just crazy talk. This is the direction the latest science seems to be headed in.

  • I was panhandling 1 day, & a lady who was kind, told me I was beautiful inside, she had a large chunk of her face amputated, & a paralyzed eye, that hurt & watered in spring breeze. She explained to me she thought she’d be young 4-ever like most do, grew organic veggies, long before trendy, never smoked, lived in nice cozy house by beach, here in lovely Victoria BC, & ended up with cancer. I told her all my street family die young, usually of fentanyl overdose. A woman died the other day cause someone slipped it in her cocaine, or accident, (Sorry Ranting Off Encounter). She said I was her therapist now, & blessed to have met me. I told her overdose on purpose is only for incurable suffering, & sadly she said that was her. I think maybe talking to me she decided to buy heroin maybe to die. What went wrong??? She told me she did everything she could, to incite a long healthy happy existence, only to be turned into something, that is not only physically shocking, but a complete treachery of ones own body on themselves.

Although there’s no firm evidence that any specific foods or nutrients can activate brown fat, it’s interesting to note that radiologists—who want to decrease brown fat activity when doing scans of cancer patients, because the heat generated by activated brown fat

makes it harder to see tumor-related activity—routinely recommend that patients eat a high-fat, low-carb diet before scans, on the grounds that this reduces brown fat activation. This suggests that a low-fat, high-carb diet will boost brown fat activity.

It makes my life much easier, I don’t have to worry about eating 3 meals a day, I just eat 1-2 meals a day, and I’m good. It’s not just calorie restriction that slows down aging guys, it’s also about keeping stress levels down and getting good sleep, invest your money into a very good bed. • There is no such thing as “ruining” your metabolism. When total calories used is reduced, the metabolism must slow down to establish a new caloric maintenance. For example: A person who regularly eats 2000 calories a day is now on a 1500 calorie diet. The person’s metabolism AND weight will go down until their body establishes a 1500 calorie maintenance. Weight loss will naturally stop if your calories stay the same.

00:06:40 How having high levels of sirtuins may give organisms the benefit of caloric restriction or other stressors such as heat stress or amino acid restriction without actually engaging in those activities.
00:07:50 How fasting for one or two days per week, a type of intermittent fasting, may activate sirtuins sufficiently to recapitulate the benefits of long-term caloric restriction. Review on caloric restriction and sirtuin biology.
00:08:15 How the metabolic switch into ketosis may be an important differentiator between ongoing caloric restriction and finite periodic fasts.
00:08:50 How caloric restriction potently increases sirtuins, as measured by SIRT1 levels, by as much as 5to 10-fold in the liver and muscle of rats, but this beneficial activity is immediately dampened by the introduction of IGF-1 and insulin.
00:10:13 How several pathways, including those involving sirtuins, insulin/IGF-1, and mTOR, all interact as components of a highly conserved holistic network to create the benefits of caloric restriction.
00:10:56 Caloric restriction, fasting, and exercise increase levels of NAD+, and this activates sirtuins.
00:12:20 NAD+ may regulate circadian rhythm though its control of sirtuins, which in turn regulate both the circadian clock in the brain as well as peripheral clocks, such as the liver.
00:13:00 In addition to activating sirtuins, NAD+ is essential for mitochondrial metabolism and function but it is also required for repairing damage to DNA by activating an enzyme called PARP.
00:13:30 How organisms have developed nutrient-sensing genetic pathways such as sirtuins, AMPK, and mTOR in order to understand what is going on in the environment.
00:14:44 Although NAD+ levels and sirtuin activities decrease with age, animal studies suggest that raising cellular NAD+ levels can trick the body into thinking it is younger.
00:16:00 Resveratrol enhances the binding of sirtuins to NAD+ thus making sirtuins more easily activated for a longer period.
00:17:28 How DNA damage consumes NAD+ through the activation of PARP, a major DNA repair protein, leaving less NAD+ available to activate sirtuins and distracting sirtuins from fulfilling their other roles.
00:20:00 Dr. Sinclair’s informational theory of aging posits that aging is due to a loss of cellular identity, a type of epigenetic signal noise, that has parallels in biology with the signal correction capabilities of the TCP/IP protocol.
00:20:33 Steve Horvath’s epigenetic aging clock, which measures DNA methylation groups, may play a role in widespread gene regulation, including sirtuin genes, and how NAD+ may participate in resetting the clock.
00:22:56 How the epigenetic clock can predict your chronological age and how long you have to live.
00:23:47 How epigenetic reprogramming in old mice can restore youthful gene activity patterns, reverse the DNA methylation aging clock, and restore the function and regenerative capacity of the aging retina.
00:24:51 The signal that resets the epigenetic clock in mice involves Yamanaka factors a group of four transcription factors that can reprogram an adult cell to become a pluripotent stem cell that can form any cell type.
00:26:24 How short term treatment with the Yamanaka factors can reverse cellular and physiological hallmarks of aging and prolong lifespan in mice with a premature aging phenotype.
00:27:45 Dr. Sinclair’s hope that we may eventually find a way to induce Yamanaka factors in a way that is more safe and applicable to humans than current genetic engineering and viral techniques used in animal research.
00:28:25 How fasting, exercise, and other lifestyle factors may slow the rate of epigenetic aging but may not be sufficient to reverse it like some of the powerful Yamanka factors may be able to.
00:29:51 How Dr. Sinclair’s lab and others are trying to find safe ways to reset the epigenetic aging clock with Yamanaka factors without causing tumors and other safety issues.
00:32:46 How Dr. Sinclair thinks Claude Shannon’s theory on mathematical theory communication may also explain the aging process.
00:34:02 Dr. Sinclair’s take on who some of the top scientists to follow in the field of aging epigenetics are, which includes Drs. Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, Steve Horvath, Manuel Serrano, Anne Brunet, Shelley Berger, and Jessica Tyler.
00:36:00 How nobel-prize winning biologist John Gurdon put an adult cell nucleus from a tadpole into a frog’s egg, producing a new tadpole, suggesting that the genome can be reset to a very early stage in an organism’s lifespan. Review on nuclear reprogramming.
00:36:22 How cellular NAD+ is made from a variety of precursors including tryptophan, nicotinic acid, nicotinamide riboside, nicotinamide mononucleotide, and nicotinamide. Nicotinamide riboside gets converted into nicotinamide mononucleotide, which is then converted to NAD+.
00:37:33 How NAD+ is a large molecule that does not get taken up in animals as efficiently as the NAD+ boosters nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide, the latter of which is transported by a recently discovered transporter.
00:38:18 How NAMPT, an enzyme in yeast that is activated by exercise and calorie restriction, is key for NAD+ production and longevity benefits.
00:39:45 Plants produce compounds that activate sirtuin pathways in plants in response to stress and, in turn, the compounds activate beneficial pathways like the sirtuin pathway in humans, a phenomenon called xenohormesis. Resveratrol is one such compound and is produced when grape plants are stressed either in response to fungus or a lack of water.
00:41:11 How small stressors such as exercise, calorie restriction, and ingestion of plant polyphenol compounds activate various stress response pathways in the body that help slow aging, but calorie excess and a sedentary lifestyle have the opposite effect, signaling the body to reproduce and continue aging, a concept known as the disposable soma theory of aging.
00:41:56 When rhesus monkeys were fed a diet high in refined sugar (sucrose) and fat for two years, they experienced a 40% increase in arterial stiffness and inflammation but this was completely reversed if they were given 80 mg of resveratrol per day for one year then 480 mg/day for a second year.
00:44:26 How resveratrol is a very insoluble molecule but its bioavailability can be increased if it is taken with food that contains a moderate amount of fat.
00:45:38 Mice that were fed an obesogenic diet but were also given a low dose of resveratrol lived longer and had organs that were healthier and younger looking compared to mice fed the obesogenic diet alone.
00:48:32 How a phase 2 clinical trial involving people with Alzheimer’s disease showed resveratrol improved mental examination status scores, induced marker changes that might suggest reduced accumulation of amyloid-beta in the brain, lowered markers of activated microglia, and more.
00:49:28 How resveratrol has been shown to induce autophagy by directly inhibiting mTOR through ATP competition in mice.
00:51:00 How both nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide have been shown to improve cognitive function and brain pathology in mice that have been engineered to get a disease similar to Alzheimer’s disease.
0:51:29 How treating mice with nicotinamide mononucleotide can prevent age-related endurance losses by promoting new blood vessel growth.
00:52:30 How an NAD+ isotope tracer study revealed that orally administered precursors of NAD+ such as nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide do not form NAD+ in any other tissues other than the liver, but that dose was half the amount used in animal studies that showed benefits in the brain and muscle.
00:53:37 How there may be a threshold dose of nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide that needs to be crossed in order to override the liver’s first pass clearance mechanisms so that nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide NAD+ levels rise in other tissues like skeletal muscle, and this is why almost all animal studies use very high doses.
00:54:13 How there may be challenges in translating animal studies on nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide to humans particularly due to the need to determine the dose required to promote health benefits.
00:56:33 How a couple of clinical trials are underway to test safety with a molecule called MIB-626, which is a potential strong NAD+ booster.
00:59:16 Older mice that were given NMN (300 mg/kg/day) experienced delayed aging in the liver, muscle, immune cells, eyes, and bones, but those that took a lower dose of NMN (100mg/kg/day or human equivalent of 8mg/kg/day) had improved mitochondrial function and enhanced physical performance.
01:00:05 How fragmented sleep consistently leads to higher fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels.

Because the scientific paper shows something different. Reference “Fasting-mimicking diet and markers/risk factors for aging,

  • Hi Anna, Thank you so much for the video, I am so glad I found you. If you dont mind me asking: I use a fitbit for tracking my calories and according to it I burn in average 2800 calories a day. My intake is no more than 2000 in average, it is actually around 1600 to 1700 calories. Based on my measurements, I am suppose to eat 1800 to lose weight ( only need/ want to lose 4 to 3 kg) but the scale does not move despite working out (cardio 4 times a week and eating pretty clean). I am confused, do you have any ideas on what could I do? sending love and thank you!

  • What if your calories for cutting is below your BMR rate? Because I’m 21 years old, 170cm tall, and weight 68kg. It says my BMR is 1477, but I need to eat 1272 calories… I have been doing 1200 for a long time and my weight is always fluctuating around 67-69.

  • I can’t tell you how much sense you make to me…this was by far the BEST information on losing weight that I’ve heard. I am following everything you said. I lost 23 lbs, with 40-50 more to go! THANKS!!!

  • 25:38 “Fasting is part of the normal world. It is the normal world. And food comes around once in a while and then you go back to fasting.”

Cut sugar.

  • I have heard insulin resistance is caused by intermuscular fat not allowing insulin to assist blood sugar to enter the cells. It’s like putting gum in a lock and you can’t insert a key to get in. Is this inaccurate?

  • My sister laughed when I told them I was planning to reduce weight with just implementing Custokebon Secrets, but after I showed these people great effects after I used it they’re begging me to share with them about it. Of course I won’t tell them the detail about this diet plan, haha

  • One of the best supplements for helping with the senolytic activity boost of autophagy is Fisetin. People do get results with some of the extracts out there but in general it is poorly absorbed and in larger amounts can effect the liver. That is why to get the big results it’s important to get the liposomal form of it which then yields HUGE assimilation utilization. This is the ONLY company offering this product right now https://alivebynature.com/?rfsn=4451250.8419af8
This compound has some unique effects on cancer as well to look into

  • It takes the stomach roughly 3 to 4 hours to digest a meal. The stomach likes to have a rest to replenish its enzyme levels. So if you get done with your meal at 10 am, your next meal would be at 4 pm. This would be perfect. I have practiced 2 meals a day for the last 13 years. I could not sustain longer than four hours at first, but now I eat on the 6th or 7th hour and fast til breakfast.

  • In Longevity Institute people knowing cancer best sitting, when in Cancer institute people knowing how to medicament patients poison people sitting.

  • I’ve lost 70 pounds… I’ve hit the mother of all plateaus. Stuck at 253 for 4 months now. I’ve hit the gym harder than ever in desperation. Even if I’m not dropping, I have a ton of energy. I even get on the jungle gym at the park with my three year old, and run around like a little kid.

  • you may reverse all the related symptoms of diabetes safely and quickly without the risk to suffer side-effects from prescribed medication.

  • At a first glance one might think that Rhonda and Dr.Sinclair are relatives. The facial features share some similarity. Even the way they give that humble smile. I wish all the scientists could explain what they are doing with the same ease as these two.

  • I dont count calories anymore, i was limiting myself to eating around 1200 kcal however, when i see that i have calories left over i end up binging on junk food. I just eat healthy filling foods until im satisfied and i use this
AM i actually hungry enough to eat a healthy meal?
    NO Drink some tea/water
    YES Eat a healthy meal

I have no clue how much calories i eat but now my life doesnt revolve around planning calories or food, instead i focus more on my studies and getting the grades i need. I started doing this after binging for 4 days straight until i was physically sick.

  • How do you feel about the Noom meal tracking app? I’ve been using it for a while and haven’t been seeing results, I like that it breaks the foods up into categories, but curious is I should switch over to the myfitnesspal app

  • I put my stomach and I sucked it for the first time in 5 months:/. And I got abs Like when suck it in it would be abs and I am like:….

  • I started counting calories when I was 13 and told everyone I wasn’t losing weight even when I eat just 1000 calories a day.
3 years later I recalculated some meals I looged into the app and BTCH WHAT THE FCK I ATE AROUND 2000 A DAY WHAT IS EVEN TOO MUCH FOR MY HEIGHT.
Yeah now I’m 16 and I’m doing it right and here I am already 30lbs lighter after 6 months. I was a very stupid kid.

  • Hey There! Thanks for this useful video. By the way, I hear lots of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine), but I’m not sure if it’s good. Have you tried Custokebon Secrets? I have heard many amazing things about it and my friend lost tons of weight with it, but she refuses to tell me:(

  • As a teenager, like many people, I wanted to skip breakfast. I’d just eat a small lunch and then a regular dinner (SAD). I was always told that you must eat in the morning. I would force myself even though I struggled with weight ( 10-20 lbs.). Of course, I just ate sugar cereal and skim milk. I wish I had seen this video then!! Thank you so much for this info!!
